1:1 Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ, To God's elect, strangers in the world, scattered throughout Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia and Bithynia,

1:2 who have been chosen according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through the sanctifying work of the Spirit, for obedience to Jesus Christ and sprinkling by his blood: Grace and peace be yours in abundance.

1:3 Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,

1:4 and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade--kept in heaven for you,

1:5 who through faith are shielded by God's power until the coming of the salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time.

1:6 In this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials.

1:7 These have come so that your faith--of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire--may be proved genuine and may result in praise, glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed.

1:8 Though you have not seen him, you love him; and even though you do not see him now, you believe in him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy,
1:9 ¹ÏÀ½ÀÇ °á±¹ °ð ¿µÈ¥ÀÇ ±¸¿øÀ» ¹ÞÀ½À̶ó
1:9 for you are receiving the goal of your faith, the salvation of your souls.

1:10 Concerning this salvation, the prophets, who spoke of the grace that was to come to you, searched intently and with the greatest care,

1:11 trying to find out the time and circumstances to which the Spirit of Christ in them was pointing when he predicted the sufferings of Christ and the glories that would follow.

1:12 It was revealed to them that they were not serving themselves but you, when they spoke of the things that have now been told you by those who have preached the gospel to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven. Even angels long to look into these things.

1:13 Therefore, prepare your minds for action; be self-controlled; set your hope fully on the grace to be given you when Jesus Christ is revealed.

1:14 As obedient children, do not conform to the evil desires you had when you lived in ignorance.

1:15 But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do;
1:16 ±â·ÏÇÏ¿´À¸µÇ ³»°¡ °Å·èÇÏ´Ï ³ÊÈñµµ °Å·èÇÒÁö¾î´Ù Çϼ̴À´Ï¶ó
1:16 for it is written: "Be holy, because I am holy."

1:17 Since you call on a Father who judges each man's work impartially, live your lives as strangers here in reverent fear.

1:18 For you know that it was not with perishable things such as silver or gold that you were redeemed from the empty way of life handed down to you from your forefathers,
1:19 ¿ÀÁ÷ Èì ¾ø°í Á¡ ¾ø´Â ¾î¸° ¾ç °°Àº ±×¸®½ºµµÀÇ º¸¹è·Î¿î ÇÇ·Î ÇÑ °ÍÀ̴϶ó
1:19 but with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect.

1:20 He was chosen before the creation of the world, but was revealed in these last times for your sake.

1:21 Through him you believe in God, who raised him from the dead and glorified him, and so your faith and hope are in God.
1:22 ³ÊÈñ°¡ Áø¸®¸¦ ¼øÁ¾ÇÔÀ¸·Î ³ÊÈñ ¿µÈ¥À» ±ú²ýÇÏ°Ô ÇÏ¿© °ÅÁþÀÌ ¾øÀÌ ÇüÁ¦¸¦ »ç¶ûÇϱ⿡ À̸£·¶À¸´Ï ¸¶À½À¸·Î ¶ß°Ì°Ô ÇÇÂ÷ »ç¶ûÇ϶ó
1:22 Now that you have purified yourselves by obeying the truth so that you have sincere love for your brothers, love one another deeply, from the heart.

1:23 For you have been born again, not of perishable seed, but of imperishable, through the living and enduring word of God.

1:24 For, "All men are like grass, and all their glory is like the flowers of the field; the grass withers and the flowers fall,

1:25 but the word of the Lord stands forever." And this is the word that was preached to you.

2:1 Therefore, rid yourselves of all malice and all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and slander of every kind.

2:2 Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation,

2:3 now that you have tasted that the Lord is good.

2:4 As you come to him, the living Stone--rejected by men but chosen by God and precious to him--

2:5 you also, like living stones, are being built into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood, offering spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.

2:6 For in Scripture it says: "See, I lay a stone in Zion, a chosen and precious cornerstone, and the one who trusts in him will never be put to shame."

2:7 Now to you who believe, this stone is precious. But to those who do not believe, "The stone the builders rejected has become the capstone,"

2:8 and, "A stone that causes men to stumble and a rock that makes them fall." They stumble because they disobey the message--which is also what they were destined for.

2:9 But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.

2:10 Once you were not a people, but now you are the people of God; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.

2:11 Dear friends, I urge you, as aliens and strangers in the world, to abstain from sinful desires, which war against your soul.

2:12 Live such good lives among the pagans that, though they accuse you of doing wrong, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day he visits us.

2:13 Submit yourselves for the Lord's sake to every authority instituted among men: whether to the king, as the supreme authority,

2:14 or to governors, who are sent by him to punish those who do wrong and to commend those who do right.

2:15 For it is God's will that by doing good you should silence the ignorant talk of foolish men.

2:16 Live as free men, but do not use your freedom as a cover-up for evil; live as servants of God.

2:17 Show proper respect to everyone: Love the brotherhood of believers, fear God, honor the king.

2:18 Slaves, submit yourselves to your masters with all respect, not only to those who are good and considerate, but also to those who are harsh.

2:19 For it is commendable if a man bears up under the pain of unjust suffering because he is conscious of God.

2:20 But how is it to your credit if you receive a beating for doing wrong and endure it? But if you suffer for doing good and you endure it, this is commendable before God.

5:2 Be shepherds of God's flock that is under your care, serving as overseers--not because you must, but because you are willing, as God wants you to be; not greedy for money, but eager to serve;

5:4 And when the Chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the crown of glory that will never fade away.

5:5 Young men, in the same way be submissive to those who are older. All of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, because, "God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble."

5:8 Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.

5:10 And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast.

2:3 In their greed these teachers will exploit you with stories they have made up. Their condemnation has long been hanging over them, and their destruction has not been sleeping.

2:5 if he did not spare the ancient world when he brought the flood on its ungodly people, but protected Noah, a preacher of righteousness, and seven others;

2:10 This is especially true of those who follow the corrupt desire of the sinful nature and despise authority. Bold and arrogant, these men are not afraid to slander celestial beings;

3:3 First of all, you must understand that in the last days scoffers will come, scoffing and following their own evil desires.

3:6 By these waters also the world of that time was deluged and destroyed.

3:7 By the same word the present heavens and earth are reserved for fire, being kept for the day of judgment and destruction of ungodly men.

3:9 The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.

3:10 But the day of the Lord will come like a thief. The heavens will disappear with a roar; the elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and everything in it will be laid bare.

3:12 as you look forward to the day of God and speed its coming. That day will bring about the destruction of the heavens by fire, and the elements will melt in the heat.

3:16 He writes the same way in all his letters, speaking in them of these matters. His letters contain some things that are hard to understand, which ignorant and unstable people distort, as they do the other Scriptures, to their own destruction.

3:17 Therefore, dear friends, since you already know this, be on your guard so that you may not be carried away by the error of lawless men and fall from your secure position.
