1:1 Zu den Zeiten Ahasveros (der da König war von Indien bis an Mohrenland über hundert und siebenundzwanzig Länder)
1:1 Now it came to pass in the days of Ahasuerus, (this is Ahasuerus which reigned, from India even unto Ethiopia, over an hundred and seven and twenty provinces:)
1:2 und da er auf seinem königlichen Stuhl saß zu Schloß Susan,
1:2 That in those days, when the king Ahasuerus sat on the throne of his kingdom, which was in Shushan the palace,
1:3 im dritten Jahr seines Königreichs, machte er bei sich ein Mahl allen seinen Fürsten und Knechten, den Gewaltigen in Persien und Medien, den Landpflegern und Obersten in seinen Ländern,
1:3 In the third year of his reign, he made a feast unto all his princes and his servants; the power of Persia and Media, the nobles and princes of the provinces, being before him:
1:4 daß er sehen ließe den herrlichen Reichtum seines Königreichs und die köstliche Pracht seiner Majestät viele Tage lang, hundert und achtzig Tage.
1:4 When he showed the riches of his glorious kingdom and the honour of his excellent majesty many days, even an hundred and fourscore days.
1:5 Und da die Tage aus waren, machte der König ein Mahl allem Volk, das zu Schloß Susan war, Großen und Kleinen, sieben Tage lang im Hofe des Gartens am Hause des Königs.
1:5 And when these days were expired, the king made a feast unto all the people that were present in Shushan the palace, both unto great and small, seven days, in the court of the garden of the king's palace;
1:6 Da hingen weiße, rote und blaue Tücher, mit leinenen und scharlachnen Seilen gefaßt, in silbernen Ringen auf Marmorsäulen. Die Bänke waren golden und silbern auf Pflaster von grünem, weißem, gelbem und schwarzen Marmor.
1:6 Where were white, green, and blue, hangings, fastened with cords of fine linen and purple to silver rings and pillars of marble: the beds were of gold and silver, upon a pavement of red, and blue, and white, and black, marble.
1:7 Und das Getränk trug man in goldenen Gefäßen und immer andern und andern Gefäßen, und königlichen Wein die Menge, wie denn der König vermochte.
1:7 And they gave them drink in vessels of gold, (the vessels being diverse one from another,) and royal wine in abundance, according to the state of the king.
1:8 Und man setzte niemand, was er trinken sollte; denn der König hatte allen Vorstehern befohlen, daß ein jeglicher sollte tun, wie es ihm wohl gefiel. {~}
1:8 And the drinking was according to the law; none did compel: for so the king had appointed to all the officers of his house, that they should do according to every man's pleasure.
1:9 Und die Königin Vasthi machte auch ein Mahl für die Weiber im königlichen Hause des Königs Ahasveros.
1:9 Also Vashti the queen made a feast for the women in the royal house which belonged to king Ahasuerus.
1:10 Und am siebenten Tage, da der König gutes Muts war vom Wein, hieß er Mehuman, Bistha, Harbona, Bigtha, Abagtha, Sethar und Charkas, die sieben Kämmerer, die vor dem König Ahasveros dienten,
1:10 On the seventh day, when the heart of the king was merry with wine, he commanded Mehuman, Biztha, Harbona, Bigtha, and Abagtha, Zethar, and Carcas, the seven chamberlains that served in the presence of Ahasuerus the king,
1:11 daß sie die Königin Vasthi holten vor den König mit der königlichen Krone, daß er den Völkern und Fürsten zeigte ihre Schöne; denn sie war schön.
1:11 To bring Vashti the queen before the king with the crown royal, to show the people and the princes her beauty: for she was fair to look on.
1:12 Aber die Königin Vasthi wollte nicht kommen nach dem Wort des Königs durch seine Kämmerer. Da ward der König sehr zornig, und sein Grimm entbrannte in ihm.
1:12 But the queen Vashti refused to come at the king's commandment by his chamberlains: therefore was the king very angry, and his anger burned in him.
1:13 Und der König sprach zu den Weisen, die sich auf die Zeiten verstanden (denn des Königs Sachen mußten geschehen vor allen, die sich auf Recht und Händel verstanden; {~}
1:13 Then the king said to the wise men, which knew the times, (for so was the king's manner toward all that knew law and judgment:
1:14 die nächsten aber die bei ihm waren Charsena, Sethar, Admatha, Tharsis, Meres, Marsena und Memuchan, die sieben Fürsten der Perser und Meder, die das Angesicht des Königs sahen und saßen obenan im Königreich),
1:14 And the next unto him was Carshena, Shethar, Admatha, Tarshish, Meres, Marsena, and Memucan, the seven princes of Persia and Media, which saw the king's face, and which sat the first in the kingdom;)
1:15 was für ein Recht man an der Königin Vasthi tun sollte, darum daß sie nicht getan hatte nach dem Wort des Königs durch seine Kämmerer.
1:15 What shall we do unto the queen Vashti according to law, because she has not performed the commandment of the king Ahasuerus by the chamberlains?
1:16 Da sprach Memuchan vor dem König und den Fürsten: Die Königin Vasthi hat nicht allein an dem König übel getan, sondern auch an allen Fürsten und an allen Völkern in allen Landen des Königs Ahasveros.
1:16 And Memucan answered before the king and the princes, Vashti the queen has not done wrong to the king only, but also to all the princes, and to all the people that are in all the provinces of the king Ahasuerus.
1:17 Denn es wird solche Tat der Königin auskommen zu allen Weibern, daß sie ihre Männer verachten vor ihren Augen und werden sagen: Der König Ahasveros hieß die Königin Vasthi vor sich kommen; aber sie wollte nicht.
1:17 For this deed of the queen shall come abroad unto all women, so that they shall despise their husbands in their eyes, when it shall be reported, The king Ahasuerus commanded Vashti the queen to be brought in before him, but she came not.
1:18 So werden nun die Fürstinnen in Persien und Medien auch so sagen zu allen Fürsten des Königs, wenn sie solche Tat der Königin hören; so wird sich Verachtens und Zorn genug erheben.
1:18 Likewise shall the ladies of Persia and Media say this day unto all the king's princes, which have heard of the deed of the queen. Thus shall there arise too much contempt and wrath.
1:19 Gefällt es dem König, so lasse man ein königlich Gebot von ihm ausgehen und schreiben nach der Perser und Meder Gesetz, welches man nicht darf übertreten: daß Vasthi nicht mehr vor den König Ahasveros komme, und der König gebe ihre königliche Würde einer andern, die besser ist denn sie.
1:19 If it please the king, let there go a royal commandment from him, and let it be written among the laws of the Persians and the Medes, that it be not altered, That Vashti come no more before king Ahasuerus; and let the king give her royal estate unto another that is better than she.
1:20 Und es erschalle dieser Befehl des Königs, den er geben wird, in sein ganzes Reich, welches groß ist, daß alle Weiber ihre Männer in Ehren halten, unter Großen und Kleinen.
1:20 And when the king's decree which he shall make shall be published throughout all his empire, (for it is great,) all the wives shall give to their husbands honour, both to great and small.
1:21 Das gefiel dem König und den Fürsten; und der König tat nach dem Wort Memuchans.
1:21 And the saying pleased the king and the princes; and the king did according to the word of Memucan:
1:22 Da wurden Briefe ausgesandt in alle Länder des Königs, in ein jegliches Land nach seiner Schrift und zu jeglichem Volk nach seiner Sprache: daß ein jeglicher Mann der Oberherr in seinem Hause sei und ließe reden nach der Sprache seines Volkes.
1:22 For he sent letters into all the king's provinces, into every province according to the writing thereof, and to every people after their language, that every man should bear rule in his own house, and that it should be published according to the language of every people.

2:1 Nach diesen Geschichten, da der Grimm des Königs Ahasveros sich gelegt hatte, gedachte er an Vasthi, was sie getan hatte und was über sie beschlossen war.
2:1 After these things, when the wrath of king Ahasuerus was appeased, he remembered Vashti, and what she had done, and what was decreed against her.
2:2 Da sprachen die Diener des Königs, die ihm dienten: Man suche dem König junge, schöne Jungfrauen,
2:2 Then said the king's servants that ministered unto him, Let there be fair young virgins sought for the king:
2:3 und der König bestellte Männer in allen Landen seines Königreichs, daß sie allerlei junge, schöne Jungfrauen zusammenbringen gen Schloß Susan ins Frauenhaus unter der Hand Hegais, des Königs Kämmerers, der der Weiber wartet, und man gebe ihnen ihren Schmuck;
2:3 And let the king appoint officers in all the provinces of his kingdom, that they may gather together all the fair young virgins unto Shushan the palace, to the house of the women, unto the custody of Hege the king's chamberlain, keeper of the women; and let their things for purification be given them:
2:4 und welche Dirne dem König gefällt, die werde Königin an Vasthis Statt. Das gefiel dem König, und er tat also.
2:4 And let the maiden which pleases the king be queen instead of Vashti. And the thing pleased the king; and he did so.
2:5 Es war aber ein jüdischer Mann zu Schloß Susan, der hieß Mardochai, ein Sohn Jairs, des Sohnes Simeis, des Sohnes des Kis, ein Benjaminiter,
2:5 Now in Shushan the palace there was a certain Jew, whose name was Mordecai, the son of Jair, the son of Shimei, the son of Kish, a Benjamite;
2:6 der mit weggeführt war von Jerusalem, da Jechonja, der König Juda's, weggeführt ward, welchen Nebukadnezar, der König zu Babel, wegführte.
2:6 Who had been carried away from Jerusalem with the captivity which had been carried away with Jeconiah king of Judah, whom Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon had carried away.
2:7 Und er war ein Vormund der Hadassa, das ist Esther, eine Tochter seines Oheims; denn sie hatte weder Vater noch Mutter. Und sie war eine schöne und feine Dirne. Und da ihr Vater und ihre Mutter starb, nahm sie Mardochai auf zur Tochter.
2:7 And he brought up Hadassah, that is, Esther, his uncle's daughter: for she had neither father nor mother, and the maid was fair and beautiful; whom Mordecai, when her father and mother were dead, took for his own daughter.
2:8 Da nun das Gebot und Gesetz des Königs laut ward und viel Dirnen zuhaufe gebracht wurden gen Schloß Susan unter die Hand Hegais, ward Esther auch genommen zu des Königs Hause unter die Hand Hegais, des Hüters der Weiber.
2:8 So it came to pass, when the king's commandment and his decree was heard, and when many maidens were gathered together unto Shushan the palace, to the custody of Hegai, that Esther was brought also unto the king's house, to the custody of Hegai, keeper of the women.
2:9 Und die Dirne gefiel ihm, und sie fand Barmherzigkeit vor ihm. Und er eilte mit ihrem Schmuck, daß er ihr ihren Teil gäbe und sieben feine Dirnen von des Königs Hause dazu. Und er tat sie mit ihren Dirnen an den besten Ort im Frauenhaus.
2:9 And the maiden pleased him, and she obtained kindness of him; and he speedily gave her her things for purification, with such things as belonged to her, and seven maidens, which were meet to be given her, out of the king's house: and he preferred her and her maids unto the best place of the house of the women.
2:10 Und Esther sagte ihm nicht an ihr Volk und ihre Freundschaft; denn Mardochai hatte ihr geboten, sie sollte es nicht ansagen.
2:10 Esther had not showed her people nor her kindred: for Mordecai had charged her that she should not show it.
2:11 Und Mardochai wandelte alle Tage vor dem Hofe am Frauenhaus, daß er erführe, ob's Esther wohl ginge und was ihr geschehen würde.
2:11 And Mordecai walked every day before the court of the women's house, to know how Esther did, and what should become of her.
2:12 Wenn aber die bestimmte Zeit einer jeglichen Dirne kam, daß sie zum König Ahasveros kommen sollte, nachdem sie zwölf Monate im Frauen-Schmücken gewesen war (denn ihr Schmücken mußte soviel Zeit haben, nämlich sechs Monate mit Balsam und Myrrhe und sechs Monate mit guter Spezerei, so waren denn die Weiber geschmückt): {~}
2:12 Now when every maid's turn was come to go in to king Ahasuerus, after that she had been twelve months, according to the manner of the women, (for so were the days of their purifications accomplished, to know, six months with oil of myrrh, and six months with sweet odours, and with other things for the purifying of the women;)
2:13 alsdann ging die Dirne zum König und alles, was sie wollte, mußte man ihr geben, daß sie damit vom Frauenhaus zu des Königs Hause ginge.
2:13 Then thus came every maiden unto the king; whatsoever she desired was given her to go with her out of the house of the women unto the king's house.
2:14 Und wenn eine des Abends hineinkam, die ging des Morgens von ihm in das andere Frauenhaus unter die Hand des Saasgas, des Königs Kämmerers, des Hüters der Kebsweiber Und sie durfte nicht wieder zum König kommen, es lüstete denn den König und er ließ sie mit Namen rufen.
2:14 In the evening she went, and on the next day she returned into the second house of the women, to the custody of Shaashgaz, the king's chamberlain, which kept the concubines: she came in unto the king no more, except the king delighted in her, and that she were called by name.
2:15 Da nun die Zeit Esthers herankam, der Tochter Abihails, des Oheims Mardochais (die er zur Tochter hatte aufgenommen), daß sie zum König kommen sollte, begehrte sie nichts, denn was Hegai, des Königs Kämmerer, der Weiber Hüter, sprach. Und Esther fand Gnade vor allen, die sie ansahen.
2:15 Now when the turn of Esther, the daughter of Abihail the uncle of Mordecai, who had taken her for his daughter, was come to go in unto the king, she required nothing but what Hegai the king's chamberlain, the keeper of the women, appointed. And Esther obtained favour in the sight of all them that looked upon her.
2:16 Es ward aber Esther genommen zum König Ahasveros ins königliche Haus im zehnten Monat, der da heißt Tebeth, im siebenten Jahr seines Königreichs.
2:16 So Esther was taken unto king Ahasuerus into his house royal in the tenth month, which is the month Tebeth, in the seventh year of his reign.
2:17 Und der König gewann Esther lieb über alle Weiber, und sie fand Gnade und Barmherzigkeit vor ihm vor allen Jungfrauen. Und er setzte die königliche Krone auf ihr Haupt und machte sie zur Königin an Vasthis Statt.
2:17 And the king loved Esther above all the women, and she obtained grace and favour in his sight more than all the virgins; so that he set the royal crown upon her head, and made her queen instead of Vashti.
2:18 Und der König machte ein großes Mahl allen seinen Fürsten und Knechten, das war ein Mahl um Esthers willen, und ließ die Länder ruhen und gab königliche Geschenke aus.
2:18 Then the king made a great feast unto all his princes and his servants, even Esther's feast; and he made a release to the provinces, and gave gifts, according to the state of the king.
2:19 Und da man das anderemal Jungfrauen versammelte, saß Mardochai im Tor des Königs.
2:19 And when the virgins were gathered together the second time, then Mordecai sat in the king's gate.
2:20 Und Esther hatte noch nicht angesagt ihre Freundschaft noch ihr Volk, wie ihr Mardochai geboten hatte; denn Esther tat nach den Worten Mardochais, gleich als da er ihr Vormund war.
2:20 Esther had not yet showed her kindred nor her people; as Mordecai had charged her: for Esther did the commandment of Mordecai, like when she was brought up with him.
2:21 Zur selben Zeit, da Mardochai im Tor des Königs saß, wurden zwei Kämmerer des Königs, Bigthan und Theres, die die Tür hüteten, zornig und trachteten ihre Hände an den König Ahasveros zu legen.
2:21 In those days, while Mordecai sat in the king's gate, two of the king's chamberlains, Bigthan and Teresh, of those which kept the door, were angry, and sought to lay hands on the king Ahasuerus.
2:22 Das ward Mardochai kund, und er sagte es der Königin Esther, und Esther sagte es dem König in Mardochais Namen.
2:22 And the thing was known to Mordecai, who told it unto Esther the queen; and Esther certified the king thereof in Mordecai's name.
2:23 Und da man nachforschte, ward's gefunden, und sie wurden beide an Bäume gehängt. Und es ward geschrieben in die Chronik vor dem König.
2:23 And when inquisition was made of the matter, it was found out; therefore they were both hanged on a tree: and it was written in the book of the chronicles before the king.

3:1 Nach diesen Geschichten machte der König Ahasveros Haman groß, den Sohn Hammedathas, den Agagiter, und erhöhte ihn und setzte seinen Stuhl über alle Fürsten, die bei ihm waren.
3:1 After these things did king Ahasuerus promote Haman the son of Hammedatha the Agagite, and advanced him, and set his seat above all the princes that were with him.
3:2 Und alle Knechte des Königs, die im Tor waren, beugten die Kniee und fielen vor Haman nieder; denn der König hatte es also geboten. Aber Mardochai beugte die Kniee nicht und fiel nicht nieder.
3:2 And all the king's servants, that were in the king's gate, bowed, and reverenced Haman: for the king had so commanded concerning him. But Mordecai bowed not, nor did him reverence.
3:3 Da sprachen des Königs Knechte, die im Tor des Königs waren, zu Mardochai: Warum übertrittst du des Königs Gebot?
3:3 Then the king's servants, which were in the king's gate, said unto Mordecai, Why trangress you the king's commandment?
3:4 Und da sie solches täglich zu ihm sagten und er ihnen nicht gehorchte, sagten sie es Haman an, daß sie sähen, ob solch Tun Mardochais bestehen würde; denn er hatte ihnen gesagt, daß er ein Jude wäre.
3:4 Now it came to pass, when they spoke daily unto him, and he hearkened not unto them, that they told Haman, to see whether Mordecai's matters would stand: for he had told them that he was a Jew.
3:5 Und da nun Haman sah, daß Mardochai ihm nicht die Kniee beugte noch vor ihm niederfiel, ward er voll Grimms.
3:5 And when Haman saw that Mordecai bowed not, nor did him reverence, then was Haman full of wrath.
3:6 Und verachtete es, daß er an Mardochai allein sollte die Hand legen, denn sie hatten ihm das Volk Mardochais angesagt; sondern er trachtete, das Volk Mardochais, alle Juden, so im ganzen Königreich des Ahasveros waren, zu vertilgen.
3:6 And he thought scorn to lay hands on Mordecai alone; for they had showed him the people of Mordecai: wherefore Haman sought to destroy all the Jews that were throughout the whole kingdom of Ahasuerus, even the people of Mordecai.
3:7 Im ersten Monat, das ist der Monat Nisan, im zwölften Jahr des Königs Ahasveros, ward das Pur, das ist das Los, geworfen vor Haman, von einem Tage auf den andern und von Monat zu Monat bis auf den zwölften, das ist der Monat Adar.
3:7 In the first month, that is, the month Nisan, in the twelfth year of king Ahasuerus, they cast Pur, that is, the lot, before Haman from day to day, and from month to month, to the twelfth month, that is, the month Adar.
3:8 Und Haman sprach zum König Ahasveros: Es ist ein Volk, zerstreut in allen Ländern deines Königreichs, und ihr Gesetz ist anders denn aller Völker, und tun nicht nach des Königs Gesetzen; es ziemt dem König nicht, sie also zu lassen.
3:8 And Haman said unto king Ahasuerus, There is a certain people scattered abroad and dispersed among the people in all the provinces of your kingdom; and their laws are diverse from all people; neither keep they the king's laws: therefore it is not for the king's profit to suffer them.
3:9 Gefällt es dem König, so lasse er schreiben, daß man sie umbringe; so will ich zehntausend Zentner Silber darwägen unter die Hand der Amtleute, daß man's bringt in die Kammer des Königs.
3:9 If it please the king, let it be written that they may be destroyed: and I will pay ten thousand talents of silver to the hands of those that have the charge of the business, to bring it into the king's treasuries.
3:10 Da tat der König seinen Ring von der Hand und gab ihn Haman, dem Sohn Hammadathas, dem Agagiter, der Juden Feind.
3:10 And the king took his ring from his hand, and gave it unto Haman the son of Hammedatha the Agagite, the Jews' enemy.
3:11 Und der König sprach zu Haman: Das Silber sei dir gegeben, dazu das Volk, daß du damit tust, was dir gefällt.
3:11 And the king said unto Haman, The silver is given to you, the people also, to do with them as it seems good to you.
3:12 Da rief man die Schreiber des Königs am dreizehnten Tage des ersten Monats; und ward geschrieben, wie Haman befahl, an die Fürsten des Königs und zu den Landpflegern hin und her in den Ländern und zu den Hauptleuten eines jeglichen Volks in den Ländern hin und her, nach der Schrift eines jeglichen Volks und nach ihrer Sprache, im Namen des Königs Ahasveros und mit des Königs Ring versiegelt. {~} {~}
3:12 Then were the king's scribes called on the thirteenth day of the first month, and there was written according to all that Haman had commanded unto the king's lieutenants, and to the governors that were over every province, and to the rulers of every people of every province according to the writing thereof, and to every people after their language; in the name of king Ahasuerus was it written, and sealed with the king's ring.
3:13 Und die Briefe wurden gesandt durch die Läufer in alle Länder des Königs, zu vertilgen, zu erwürgen und umzubringen alle Juden, jung und alt, Kinder und Weiber, auf einen Tag, nämlich auf den dreizehnten Tag des zwölften Monats, das ist der Monat Adar, und ihr Gut zu rauben.
3:13 And the letters were sent by posts into all the king's provinces, to destroy, to kill, and to cause to perish, all Jews, both young and old, little children and women, in one day, even upon the thirteenth day of the twelfth month, which is the month Adar, and to take the spoil of them for a prey.
3:14 Also war der Inhalt der Schrift: daß ein Gebot gegeben wäre in allen Ländern, allen Völkern zu eröffnen, daß sie auf denselben Tag bereit wären.
3:14 The copy of the writing for a commandment to be given in every province was published unto all people, that they should be ready against that day.
3:15 Und die Läufer gingen aus eilend nach des Königs Wort, und zu Schloß Susan ward das Gebot angeschlagen. Und der König und Haman saßen und tranken; aber die Stadt Susan ward bestürzt.
3:15 The posts went out, being hastened by the king's commandment, and the decree was given in Shushan the palace. And the king and Haman sat down to drink; but the city Shushan was perplexed.

4:1 Da Mardochai erfuhr alles, was geschehen war, zerriß er seine Kleider und legte einen Sack an und Asche und ging hinaus mitten in die Stadt und schrie laut und kläglich.
4:1 When Mordecai perceived all that was done, Mordecai rent his clothes, and put on sackcloth with ashes, and went out into the midst of the city, and cried with a loud and a bitter cry;
4:2 Und kam bis vor das Tor des Königs; denn es durfte niemand zu des Königs Tor eingehen, der einen Sack anhatte.
4:2 And came even before the king's gate: for none might enter into the king's gate clothed with sackcloth.
4:3 Und in allen Ländern, an welchen Ort des Königs Wort und Gebot gelangte, war ein großes Klagen unter den Juden, und viele fasteten, weinten trugen Leid und lagen in Säcken und in der Asche.
4:3 And in every province, anywhere the king's commandment and his decree came, there was great mourning among the Jews, and fasting, and weeping, and wailing; and many lay in sackcloth and ashes.
4:4 Da kamen die Dirnen Esthers und ihre Kämmerer und sagten's ihr an. Da erschrak die Königin sehr. Und sie sandte Kleider, daß Mardochai sie anzöge und den Sack von sich legte; aber er nahm sie nicht.
4:4 So Esther's maids and her chamberlains came and told it her. Then was the queen exceedingly grieved; and she sent raiment to clothe Mordecai, and to take away his sackcloth from him: but he received it not.
4:5 Da rief Esther Hathach unter des Königs Kämmerern, der vor ihr stand, und gab ihm Befehl an Mardochai, daß sie erführe, was das wäre und warum er so täte.
4:5 Then called Esther for Hatach, one of the king's chamberlains, whom he had appointed to attend upon her, and gave him a commandment to Mordecai, to know what it was, and why it was.
4:6 Da ging Hathach hinaus zu Mardochai in die Gasse der Stadt, die vor dem Tor des Königs war.
4:6 So Hatach went forth to Mordecai unto the street of the city, which was before the king's gate.
4:7 Und Mardochai sagte ihm alles, was ihm begegnet wäre, und die Summe des Silbers, das Haman versprochen hatte in des Königs Kammer darzuwägen um der Juden willen, sie zu vertilgen,
4:7 And Mordecai told him of all that had happened unto him, and of the sum of the money that Haman had promised to pay to the king's treasuries for the Jews, to destroy them.
4:8 und gab ihm die Abschrift des Gebots, das zu Susan angeschlagen war, sie zu vertilgen, daß er's Esther zeigte und ihr ansagte und geböte ihr, daß sie zum König hineinginge und flehte zu ihm und täte eine Bitte an ihn um ihr Volk.
4:8 Also he gave him the copy of the writing of the decree that was given at Shushan to destroy them, to show it unto Esther, and to declare it unto her, and to charge her that she should go in unto the king, to make supplication unto him, and to make request before him for her people.
4:9 Und da Hathach hineinkam und sagte Esther die Worte Mardochais,
4:9 And Hatach came and told Esther the words of Mordecai.
4:10 sprach Esther zu Hathach und gebot ihm an Mardochai:
4:10 Again Esther spoke unto Hatach, and gave him commandment unto Mordecai;
4:11 Es wissen alle Knechte des Königs und das Volk in den Landen des Königs, daß, wer zum König hineingeht inwendig in den Hof, er sei Mann oder Weib, der nicht gerufen ist, der soll stracks nach dem Gebot sterben; es sei denn, daß der König das goldene Zepter gegen ihn recke, damit er lebendig bleibe. Ich aber bin nun in dreißig Tagen nicht gerufen, zum König hineinzukommen.
4:11 All the king's servants, and the people of the king's provinces, do know, that whosoever, whether man or women, shall come unto the king into the inner court, who is not called, there is one law of his to put him to death, except such to whom the king shall hold out the golden sceptre, that he may live: but I have not been called to come in unto the king these thirty days.
4:12 Und da die Worte Esthers wurden Mardochai angesagt,
4:12 And they told to Mordecai Esther's words.
4:13 hieß Mardochai Esther wieder sagen: Gedenke nicht, daß du dein Leben errettest, weil du im Hause des Königs bist, vor allen Juden;
4:13 Then Mordecai commanded to answer Esther, Think not with yourself that you shall escape in the king's house, more than all the Jews.
4:14 denn wo du wirst zu dieser Zeit schweigen, so wird eine Hilfe und Errettung von einem andern Ort her den Juden entstehen, und du und deines Vaters Haus werdet umkommen. Und wer weiß, ob du nicht um dieser Zeit willen zur königlichen Würde gekommen bist?
4:14 For if you altogether hold your peace at this time, then shall there enlargement and deliverance arise to the Jews from another place; but you and your father's house shall be destroyed: and who knows whether you are come to the kingdom for such a time as this?
4:15 Esther hieß Mardochai antworten:
4:15 Then Esther bade them return Mordecai this answer,
4:16 So gehe hin und versammle alle Juden, die zu Susan vorhanden sind, und fastet für mich, daß ihr nicht esset und trinket in drei Tagen, weder Tag noch Nacht; ich und meine Dirnen wollen auch also fasten. Und ich will zum König hineingehen wider das Gebot; komme ich um, so komme ich um.
4:16 Go, gather together all the Jews that are present in Shushan, and fast all of you for me, and neither eat nor drink three days, night or day: I also and my maidens will fast likewise; and so will I go in unto the king, which is not according to the law: and if I perish, I perish.
4:17 Mardochai ging hin und tat alles, was ihm Esther geboten hatte.
4:17 So Mordecai went his way, and did according to all that Esther had commanded him.

5:1 Und am dritten Tage zog sich Esther königlich an und trat in den inneren Hof am Hause des Königs gegenüber dem Hause des Königs. Und der König saß auf seinem königlichen Stuhl im königlichen Hause, gegenüber der Tür des Hauses.
5:1 Now it came to pass on the third day, that Esther put on her royal apparel, and stood in the inner court of the king's house, opposite to the king's house: and the king sat upon his royal throne in the royal house, opposite to the gate of the house.
5:2 Und da der König sah Esther, die Königin, stehen im Hofe, fand sie Gnade vor seinen Augen. Und der König reckte das goldene Zepter in seiner Hand gegen Esther. Da trat Esther herzu und rührte die Spitze des Zepters an.
5:2 And it was so, when the king saw Esther the queen standing in the court, that she obtained favour in his sight: and the king held out to Esther the golden sceptre that was in his hand. So Esther drew near, and touched the top of the sceptre.
5:3 Da sprach der König zu ihr: Was ist dir, Esther, Königin? und was forderst du? Auch die Hälfte des Königreichs soll dir gegeben werden.
5:3 Then said the king unto her, What will you, queen Esther? and what is your request? it shall be even given you to the half of the kingdom.
5:4 Esther sprach: Gefällt es dem König, so komme der König und Haman heute zu dem Mahl, das ich zugerichtet habe.
5:4 And Esther answered, If it seem good unto the king, let the king and Haman come this day unto the banquet that I have prepared for him.
5:5 Der König sprach: Eilet, daß Haman tue, was Esther gesagt hat! Da nun der König und Haman zu dem Mahl kamen, das Esther zugerichtet hatte,
5:5 Then the king said, Cause Haman to make haste, that he may do as Esther has said. So the king and Haman came to the banquet that Esther had prepared.
5:6 sprach der König zu Esther, da er Wein getrunken hatte: Was bittest du, Esther? Es soll dir gegeben werden. Und was forderst du? Auch die Hälfte des Königreichs, es soll geschehen.
5:6 And the king said unto Esther at the banquet of wine, What is your petition? and it shall be granted you: and what is your request? even to the half of the kingdom it shall be performed.
5:7 Da antwortete Esther und sprach: Meine Bitte und Begehr ist:
5:7 Then answered Esther, and said, My petition and my request is;
5:8 Habe ich Gnade gefunden vor dem König, und so es dem König gefällt mir zu geben eine Bitte und zu tun mein Begehren, so komme der König und Haman zu dem Mahl, das ich für sie zurichten will; so will ich morgen Tun, was der König gesagt hat.
5:8 If I have found favour in the sight of the king, and if it please the king to grant my petition, and to perform my request, let the king and Haman come to the banquet that I shall prepare for them, and I will do tomorrow as the king has said.
5:9 Da ging Haman des Tages hinaus fröhlich und gutes Muts. Und da er sah Mardochai im Tor des Königs, daß er nicht aufstand noch sich vor ihm bewegte, ward er voll Zorns über Mardochai.
5:9 Then went Haman forth that day joyful and with a glad heart: but when Haman saw Mordecai in the king's gate, that he stood not up, nor moved for him, he was full of indignation against Mordecai.
5:10 Aber er hielt an sich. Und da er heimkam, sandte er hin und ließ holen seine Freunde und sein Weib Seres
5:10 Nevertheless Haman refrained himself: and when he came home, he sent and called for his friends, and Zeresh his wife.
5:11 und zählte ihnen auf die Herrlichkeit seines Reichtums und die Menge seiner Kinder und alles, wie ihn der König so groß gemacht hätte und daß er über die Fürsten und Knechte des Königs erhoben wäre.
5:11 And Haman told them of the glory of his riches, and the multitude of his children, and all the things wherein the king had promoted him, and how he had advanced him above the princes and servants of the king.
5:12 Auch sprach Haman: Und die Königin Esther hat niemand kommen lassen mit dem König zum Mahl, das sie zugerichtet hat, als mich; und ich bin morgen auch zu ihr geladen mit dem König.
5:12 Haman said moreover, Yea, Esther the queen did let no man come in with the king unto the banquet that she had prepared but myself; and tomorrow am I invited unto her also with the king.
5:13 Aber an dem allem habe ich keine Genüge, solange ich sehe den Juden Mardochai am Königstor sitzen.
5:13 Yet all this avails me nothing, so long as I see Mordecai the Jew sitting at the king's gate.
5:14 Da sprachen zu ihm sein Weib Seres und alle Freunde: Man mache einen Baum, fünfzig Ellen hoch, und morgen sage dem König, daß man Mardochai daran hänge; so kommst du mit dem König fröhlich zum Mahl. Das gefiel Haman wohl, und er ließ einen Baum zurichten.
5:14 Then said Zeresh his wife and all his friends unto him, Let a gallows be made of fifty cubits high, and tomorrow speak you unto the king that Mordecai may be hanged thereon: then go you in merrily with the king unto the banquet. And the thing pleased Haman; and he caused the gallows to be made.

6:1 In derselben Nacht konnte der König nicht schlafen und hieß die Chronik mit den Historien bringen. Da die wurden vor dem König gelesen,
6:1 On that night could not the king sleep, and he commanded to bring the book of records of the chronicles; and they were read before the king.
6:2 fand sich's geschrieben, wie Mardochai hatte angesagt, daß die zwei Kämmerer des Königs, Bigthan und Theres, die an der Schwelle hüteten, getrachtet hätten, die Hand an den König Ahasveros zu legen.
6:2 And it was found written, that Mordecai had told of Bigthana and Teresh, two of the king's chamberlains, the keepers of the door, who sought to lay hand on the king Ahasuerus.
6:3 Und der König sprach: Was haben wir Mardochai Ehre und Gutes dafür getan? Da sprachen die Diener des Königs, die ihm dienten: Es ist ihm nichts geschehen.
6:3 And the king said, What honour and dignity has been done to Mordecai for this? Then said the king's servants that ministered unto him, There is nothing done for him.
6:4 Und der König sprach: Wer ist im Hofe? Haman aber war in den Hof gegangen, draußen vor des Königs Hause, daß er dem König sagte, Mardochai zu hängen an den Baum, den er zubereitet hatte.
6:4 And the king said, Who is in the court? Now Haman was come into the outward court of the king's house, to speak unto the king to hang Mordecai on the gallows that he had prepared for him.
6:5 Und des Königs Diener sprachen zu ihm: Siehe, Haman steht im Hofe. Der König sprach: Laßt ihn hereingehen!
6:5 And the king's servants said unto him, Behold, Haman stands in the court. And the king said, Let him come in.
6:6 Und da Haman hineinkam, sprach der König zu ihm: Was soll man dem Mann tun, den der König gerne wollte ehren? Haman aber gedachte in seinem Herzen: Wem sollte der König anders gern wollen Ehre tun denn mir?
6:6 So Haman came in. And the king said unto him, What shall be done unto the man whom the king delights to honour? Now Haman thought in his heart, To whom would the king delight to do honour more than to myself?
6:7 Und Haman sprach zum König: Dem Mann, den der König gerne wollte ehren,
6:7 And Haman answered the king, For the man whom the king delights to honour,
6:8 soll man königliche Kleider bringen, die der König pflegt zu tragen, und ein Roß, darauf der König reitet, und soll eine königliche Krone auf sein Haupt setzen;
6:8 Let the royal apparel be brought which the king uses to wear, and the horse that the king rides upon, and the crown royal which is set upon his head:
6:9 und man soll solch Kleid und Roß geben in die Hand eines Fürsten des Königs, daß derselbe den Mann anziehe, den der König gern ehren wollte, und führe ihn auf dem Roß in der Stadt Gassen und lasse rufen vor ihm her: So wird man tun dem Mann, den der König gerne ehren will.
6:9 And let this apparel and horse be delivered to the hand of one of the king's most noble princes, that they may array the man likewise whom the king delights to honour, and bring him on horseback through the street of the city, and proclaim before him, Thus shall it be done to the man whom the king delights to honour.
6:10 Der König sprach zu Haman: Eile und nimm das Kleid und Roß, wie du gesagt hast, und tu also mit Mardochai, dem Juden, der vor dem Tor des Königs sitzt; und laß nichts fehlen an allem, was du geredet hast!
6:10 Then the king said to Haman, Make haste, and take the apparel and the horse, as you have said, and do even so to Mordecai the Jew, that sits at the king's gate: let nothing fail of all that you have spoken.
6:11 Da nahm Haman das Kleid und Roß und zog Mardochai an und führte ihn auf der Stadt Gassen und rief vor ihm her: So wird man tun dem Mann, den der König gerne ehren will.
6:11 Then took Haman the apparel and the horse, and arrayed Mordecai, and brought him on horseback through the street of the city, and proclaimed before him, Thus shall it be done unto the man whom the king delights to honour.
6:12 Und Mardochai kam wieder an das Tor des Königs. Haman aber eilte nach Hause, trug Leid mit verhülltem Kopf
6:12 And Mordecai came again to the king's gate. But Haman hasted to his house mourning, and having his head covered.
6:13 und erzählte seinem Weibe Seres und seinen Freunden allen alles, was ihm begegnet war. Da sprachen zu ihm seine Weisen und sein Weib Seres: Ist Mardochai vom Geschlecht der Juden, vor dem du zu fallen angehoben hast, so vermagst du nichts an ihm, sondern du wirst vor ihm fallen.
6:13 And Haman told Zeresh his wife and all his friends every thing that had befallen him. Then said his wise men and Zeresh his wife unto him, If Mordecai be of the seed of the Jews, before whom you have begun to fall, you shall not prevail against him, but shall surely fall before him.
6:14 Da sie aber noch mit ihm redeten, kamen herbei des Königs Kämmerer und trieben Haman, zum Mahl zu kommen, das Esther zugerichtet hatte.
6:14 And while they were yet talking with him, came the king's chamberlains, and hasted to bring Haman unto the banquet that Esther had prepared.

7:1 Und da der König mit Haman kam zum Mahl, das die Königin Esther zugerichtet hatte,
7:1 So the king and Haman came to banquet with Esther the queen.
7:2 sprach der König zu Esther auch des andern Tages, da er Wein getrunken hatte: Was bittest du, Königin Esther, daß man's dir gebe? Und was forderst du? Auch das halbe Königreich, es soll geschehen.
7:2 And the king said again unto Esther on the second day at the banquet of wine, What is your petition, queen Esther? and it shall be granted you: and what is your request? and it shall be performed, even to the half of the kingdom.
7:3 Esther, die Königin, antwortete und sprach: habe ich Gnade vor dir gefunden, o König, und gefällt es dem König, so gib mir mein Leben um meiner Bitte willen und mein Volk um meines Begehrens willen.
7:3 Then Esther the queen answered and said, If I have found favour in your sight, O king, and if it please the king, let my life be given me at my petition, and my people at my request:
7:4 Denn wir sind verkauft, ich und mein Volk, daß wir vertilgt, erwürgt und umgebracht werden. Und wären wir doch nur zu Knechten und Mägden verkauft, so wollte ich schweigen; so würde der Feind doch dem König nicht schaden.
7:4 For we are sold, I and my people, to be destroyed, to be slain, and to perish. But if we had been sold for bondmen and bondwomen, I had held my tongue, although the enemy could not countervail the king's damage.
7:5 Der König Ahasveros redete und sprach zu der Königin Esther: Wer ist der, oder wo ist der, der solches in seinen Sinn nehmen dürfe, also zu tun?
7:5 Then the king Ahasuerus answered and said unto Esther the queen, Who is he, and where is he, that durst presume in his heart to do so?
7:6 Esther sprach: Der Feind und Widersacher ist dieser böse Haman. Haman entsetzte sich vor dem König und der Königin.
7:6 And Esther said, The adversary and enemy is this wicked Haman. Then Haman was afraid before the king and the queen.
7:7 Und der König stand auf vom Mahl und vom Wein in seinem Grimm und ging in den Garten am Hause. Und Haman stand auf und bat die Königin Esther um sein Leben; denn er sah, daß ihm ein Unglück vom König schon bereitet war.
7:7 And the king arising from the banquet of wine in his wrath went into the palace garden: and Haman stood up to make request for his life to Esther the queen; for he saw that there was evil determined against him by the king.
7:8 Und da der König wieder aus dem Garten am Hause in den Saal, da man gegessen hatte, kam, lag Haman an der Bank, darauf Esther saß. Da sprach der König: Will er auch der Königin Gewalt tun bei mir im Hause? Da das Wort aus des Königs Munde ging, verhüllten sie Haman das Antlitz.
7:8 Then the king returned out of the palace garden into the place of the banquet of wine; and Haman was fallen upon the bed whereon Esther was. Then said the king, Will he force the queen also before me in the house? As the word went out of king's mouth, they covered Haman's face.
7:9 Und Harbona, der Kämmerer einer vor dem König, sprach: Siehe, es steht ein Baum im Hause Haman, fünfzig Ellen hoch, den er Mardochai gemacht hatte, der Gutes für den König geredet hat. Der König sprach: Laßt ihn daran hängen!
7:9 And Harbonah, one of the chamberlains, said before the king, Behold also, the gallows fifty cubits high, which Haman had made for Mordecai, who spoken good for the king, stands in the house of Haman. Then the king said, Hang him thereon.
7:10 Also hängte man Haman an den Baum, den er Mardochai gemacht hatte. Da legte sich des Königs Zorn.
7:10 So they hanged Haman on the gallows that he had prepared for Mordecai. Then was the king's wrath pacified.

8:1 An dem Tage gab der König Ahasveros der Königin Esther das Haus Hamans, des Judenfeindes. Und Mardochai kam vor den König; denn Esther sagte an, wie er ihr zugehörte.
8:1 On that day did the king Ahasuerus give the house of Haman the Jews' enemy unto Esther the queen. And Mordecai came before the king; for Esther had told what he was unto her.
8:2 Und der König tat ab von seinem Fingerreif, den er von Haman hatte genommen, und gab ihn Mardochai. Und Esther setzte Mardochai über das Haus Hamans.
8:2 And the king took off his ring, which he had taken from Haman, and gave it unto Mordecai. And Esther set Mordecai over the house of Haman.
8:3 Und Esther redete weiter vor dem König und fiel ihm zu den Füßen und weinte und flehte ihn an, daß er zunichte machte die Bosheit Hamans, des Agagiters, und seine Anschläge, die er wider die Juden erdacht hatte.
8:3 And Esther spoke yet again before the king, and fell down at his feet, and besought him with tears to put away the mischief of Haman the Agagite, and his device that he had devised against the Jews.
8:4 Und der König reckte das goldene Zepter gegen Esther. Da stand Esther auf und trat vor den König
8:4 Then the king held out the golden sceptre toward Esther. So Esther arose, and stood before the king,
8:5 und sprach: Gefällt es dem König und habe ich Gnade gefunden vor ihm und ist's gelegen dem König und ich gefalle ihm, so schreibe man, daß die Briefe Hamans, des Sohnes Hammedathas, des Agagiters, widerrufen werden, die er geschrieben hat, die Juden umzubringen in allen Landen des Königs.
8:5 And said, If it please the king, and if I have favour in his sight, and the thing seem right before the king, and I be pleasing in his eyes, let it be written to reverse the letters devised by Haman the son of Hammedatha the Agagite, which he wrote to destroy the Jews which are in all the king's provinces:
8:6 Denn wie kann ich zusehen dem Übel, das mein Volk treffen würde? Und wie kann ich zusehen, daß mein Geschlecht umkomme?
8:6 For how can I endure to see the evil that shall come unto my people? or how can I endure to see the destruction of my kindred?
8:7 Da sprach der König Ahasveros zur Königin Esther und zu Mardochai, dem Juden: Siehe, ich habe Esther das Haus Hamans gegeben, und ihn hat man an einen Baum gehängt, darum daß er seine Hand hat an die Juden gelegt;
8:7 Then the king Ahasuerus said unto Esther the queen and to Mordecai the Jew, Behold, I have given Esther the house of Haman, and him they have hanged upon the gallows, because he laid his hand upon the Jews.
8:8 so schreibt ihr nun für die Juden, wie es euch gefällt, in des Königs Namen und versiegelt's mit des Königs Ringe. Denn die Schriften, die in des Königs Namen geschrieben und mit des Königs Ring versiegelt wurden, durfte niemand widerrufen.
8:8 Write all of you also for the Jews, as it likes you, in the king's name, and seal it with the king's ring: for the writing which is written in the king's name, and sealed with the king's ring, may no man reverse.
8:9 Da wurden berufen des Königs Schreiber zu der Zeit im dritten Monat, das ist der Monat Sivan, am dreiundzwanzigsten Tage, und wurde geschrieben, wie Mardochai gebot, an die Juden und an die Fürsten, Landpfleger und Hauptleute in den Landen von Indien bis an das Mohrenland, nämlich hundert und siebenundzwanzig Länder, einem jeglichen Lande nach seiner Schrift, einem jeglichen Volk nach seiner Sprache, und den Juden nach ihrer Schrift und Sprache.
8:9 Then were the king's scribes called at that time in the third month, that is, the month Sivan, on the three and twentieth day thereof; and it was written according to all that Mordecai commanded unto the Jews, and to the lieutenants, and the deputies and rulers of the provinces which are from India unto Ethiopia, an hundred twenty and seven provinces, unto every province according to the writing thereof, and unto every people after their language, and to the Jews according to their writing, and according to their language.
8:10 Und es war geschrieben in des Königs Ahasveros Namen und mit des Königs Ring versiegelt. Und er sandte die Briefe durch die reitenden Boten auf jungen Maultieren,
8:10 And he wrote in the king Ahasuerus' name, and sealed it with the king's ring, and sent letters by posts on horseback, and riders on mules, camels, and young dromedaries:
8:11 darin der König den Juden Macht gab, in welchen Städten sie auch waren, sich zu versammeln und zu stehen für ihr Leben und zu vertilgen, zu erwürgen und umzubringen alle Macht des Volkes und Landes, die sie ängsteten, samt den Kindern und Weibern, und ihr Gut zu rauben
8:11 Wherein the king granted the Jews which were in every city to gather themselves together, and to stand for their life, to destroy, to slay and to cause to perish, all the power of the people and province that would assault them, both little ones and women, and to take the spoil of them for a prey,
8:12 auf einen Tag in allen Ländern des Königs Ahasveros, nämlich am dreizehnten Tage des zwölften Monats, das ist der Monat Adar.
8:12 Upon one day in all the provinces of king Ahasuerus, namely, upon the thirteenth day of the twelfth month, which is the month Adar.
8:13 Der Inhalt aber der Schrift war, daß ein Gebot gegeben wäre in allen Landen, zu eröffnen allen Völkern, daß die Juden bereit sein sollten, sich zu rächen an ihren Feinden. {~} {~}
8:13 The copy of the writing for a commandment to be given in every province was published unto all people, and that the Jews should be ready against that day to avenge themselves on their enemies.
8:14 Und die reitenden Boten auf den Maultieren ritten aus schnell und eilend nach dem Wort des Königs, und das Gebot ward zu Schloß Susan angeschlagen.
8:14 So the posts that rode upon mules and camels went out, being hastened and pressed on by the king's commandment. And the decree was given at Shushan the palace.
8:15 Mardochai aber ging aus von dem König in königlichen Kleidern, blau und weiß, und mit einer großen goldenen Krone, angetan mit einem Leinen-und Purpur-mantel; und die Stadt Susan jauchzte und war fröhlich.
8:15 And Mordecai went out from the presence of the king in royal apparel of blue and white, and with a great crown of gold, and with a garment of fine linen and purple: and the city of Shushan rejoiced and was glad.
8:16 Den Juden aber war Licht und Freude und Wonne und Ehre gekommen.
8:16 The Jews had light, and gladness, and joy, and honour.
8:17 Und in allen Landen und Städten, an welchen Ort des Königs Wort und Gebot gelangte, da war Freude und Wonne unter den Juden, Wohlleben und gute Tage, daß viele aus den Völkern im Lande Juden wurden; denn die Furcht vor den Juden war über sie gekommen.
8:17 And in every province, and in every city, anywhere the king's commandment and his decree came, the Jews had joy and gladness, a feast and a good day. And many of the people of the land became Jews; for the fear of the Jews fell upon them.

9:1 Im zwölften Monat, das ist der Monat Adar, am dreizehnten Tag, den des Königs Wort und Gebot bestimmt hatte, daß man's tun sollte, ebendesselben Tages, da die Feinde der Juden hofften, sie zu überwältigen, wandte sich's, daß die Juden ihre Feinde überwältigen sollten.
9:1 Now in the twelfth month, that is, the month Adar, on the thirteenth day of the same, when the king's commandment and his decree drew near to be put in execution, in the day that the enemies of the Jews hoped to have power over them, (though it was turned to the contrary, that the Jews had rule over them that hated them;)
9:2 Da versammelten sich die Juden in ihren Städten in allen Landen des Königs Ahasveros, daß sie die Hand legten an die, so ihnen übel wollten. Und niemand konnte ihnen widerstehen; denn ihre Furcht war über alle Völker gekommen.
9:2 The Jews gathered themselves together in their cities throughout all the provinces of the king Ahasuerus, to lay hand on such as sought their hurt: and no man could withstand them; for the fear of them fell upon all people.
9:3 Auch alle Obersten in den Landen und Fürsten und Landpfleger und Amtleute des Königs halfen den Juden; denn die Furcht vor Mardochai war über sie gekommen.
9:3 And all the rulers of the provinces, and the lieutenants, and the deputies, and officers of the king, helped the Jews; because the fear of Mordecai fell upon them.
9:4 Denn Mardochai war groß im Hause des Königs, und sein Gerücht erscholl in allen Ländern, wie er zunähme und groß würde.
9:4 For Mordecai was great in the king's house, and his fame went out throughout all the provinces: for this man Mordecai waxed greater and greater.
9:5 Also schlugen die Juden an allen ihren Feinden eine Schwertschlacht und würgten und raubten und brachten um und taten nach ihrem Willen an denen, die ihnen feind waren.
9:5 Thus the Jews stroke all their enemies with the stroke of the sword, and slaughter, and destruction, and did what they would unto those that hated them.
9:6 Und zu Schloß Susan erwürgten die Juden und brachten um fünfhundert Mann;
9:6 And in Shushan the palace the Jews slew and destroyed five hundred men.
9:7 dazu erwürgten sie Parsandatha, Dalphon, Aspatha,
9:7 And Parshandatha, and Dalphon, and Aspatha,
9:8 Poratha, Adalja, Aridatha,
9:8 And Poratha, and Adalia, and Aridatha,
9:9 Parmastha, Arisai, Aridai, Vajesatha,

9:10 die zehn Söhne Hamans, des Sohne Hammedathas, des Judenfeindes. Aber an die Güter legten sie ihre Hände nicht.
9:10 The ten sons of Haman the son of Hammedatha, the enemy of the Jews, slew they; but on the spoil laid they not their hand.
9:11 Zu derselben Zeit kam die Zahl der Erwürgten zu Schloß Susan vor den König.
9:11 On that day the number of those that were slain in Shushan the palace was brought before the king.
9:12 Und der König sprach zu der Königin Esther: Die Juden haben zu Schloß Susan fünfhundert Mann erwürgt und umgebracht und die zehn Söhne Hamans; was werden sie tun in den andern Ländern des Königs? was bittest du, daß man dir gebe? und was forderst du mehr, daß man tue?
9:12 And the king said unto Esther the queen, The Jews have slain and destroyed five hundred men in Shushan the palace, and the ten sons of Haman; what have they done in the rest of the king's provinces? now what is your petition? and it shall be granted you: or what is your request further? and it shall be done.
9:13 Esther sprach: Gefällt's dem König, so lasse er auch morgen die Juden tun nach dem heutigen Gebot, und die zehn Söhne Hamans soll man an den Baum hängen.
9:13 Then said Esther, If it please the king, let it be granted to the Jews which are in Shushan to do tomorrow also according unto this day's decree, and let Haman's ten sons be hanged upon the gallows.
9:14 Und der König hieß also tun. Und das Gebot ward zu Susan angeschlagen, und die zehn Söhne Haman wurden gehängt.
9:14 And the king commanded it so to be done: and the decree was given at Shushan; and they hanged Haman's ten sons.
9:15 Und die Juden zu Susan versammelten sich auch am vierzehnten Tage des Monats Adar und erwürgten zu Susan dreihundert Mann; aber an ihre Güter legten sie ihre Hände nicht.
9:15 For the Jews that were in Shushan gathered themselves together on the fourteenth day also of the month Adar, and slew three hundred men at Shushan; but on the prey they laid not their hand.
9:16 Aber die andern Juden in den Ländern des Königs kamen zusammen und standen für ihr Leben, daß sie Ruhe schafften vor ihren Feinden, und erwürgten ihrer Feinde fünfundsiebzigtausend; aber an ihre Güter legten sie ihre Hände nicht.
9:16 But the other Jews that were in the king's provinces gathered themselves together, and stood for their lives, and had rest from their enemies, and slew of their foes seventy and five thousand, but they laid not their hands on the prey,
9:17 Das geschah am dreizehnten Tage des Monats Adar, und sie ruhten am vierzehnten Tage desselben Monats; den machte man zum Tage des Wohllebens und der Freude.
9:17 On the thirteenth day of the month Adar; and on the fourteenth day of the same rested they, and made it a day of feasting and gladness.
9:18 Aber die Juden zu Susan waren zusammengekommen am dreizehnten und am vierzehnten Tage und ruhten am fünfzehnten Tag; und den Tag machte man zum Tage des Wohllebens und der Freude.
9:18 But the Jews that were at Shushan assembled together on the thirteenth day thereof, and on the fourteenth thereof; and on the fifteenth day of the same they rested, and made it a day of feasting and gladness.
9:19 Darum machten die Juden, die auf den Dörfern und Flecken wohnten, den vierzehnten Tag des Monats Adar zum Tag des Wohllebens und der Freude, und sandte einer dem andern Geschenke.
9:19 Therefore the Jews of the villages, that dwelt in the towns without protective walls, made the fourteenth day of the month Adar a day of gladness and feasting, and a good day, and of sending portions one to another.
9:20 Und Mardochai schrieb diese Geschichten auf und sandte Briefe an alle Juden, die in den Landen des Königs Ahasveros waren, nahen und fernen,
9:20 And Mordecai wrote these things, and sent letters unto all the Jews that were in all the provinces of the king Ahasuerus, both nigh and far,
9:21 daß sie annähmen und hielten den vierzehnten und fünfzehnten Tag des Monats Adar jährlich, {~}
9:21 To establish this among them, that they should keep the fourteenth day of the month Adar, and the fifteenth day of the same, yearly,
9:22 nach den Tagen, darin die Juden zur Ruhe gekommen waren von ihren Feinden und nach dem Monat, darin ihre Schmerzen in Freude und ihr Leid in gute Tage verkehrt war; daß sie dieselben halten sollten als Tage des Wohllebens und der Freude und einer dem andern Geschenke schicken und den Armen mitteilen.
9:22 As the days wherein the Jews rested from their enemies, and the month which was turned unto them from sorrow to joy, and from mourning into a good day: that they should make them days of feasting and joy, and of sending portions one to another, and gifts to the poor.
9:23 Und die Juden nahmen's an, was sie angefangen hatten zu tun und was Mardochai an sie schrieb:
9:23 And the Jews undertook to do as they had begun, and as Mordecai had written unto them;
9:24 wie Haman, der Sohn Hammedathas, der Agagiter, aller Juden Feind, gedacht hatte, alle Juden umzubringen, und das Pur, das ist das Los, werfen lassen, sie zu erschrecken und umzubringen;
9:24 Because Haman the son of Hammedatha, the Agagite, the enemy of all the Jews, had devised against the Jews to destroy them, and had cast Pur, that is, the lot, to consume them, and to destroy them;
9:25 und wie Esther zum König gegangen war und derselbe durch Briefe geboten hatte, daß seine bösen Anschläge, die er wider die Juden gedacht, auf seinen Kopf gekehrt würden; und wie man ihn und seine Söhne an den Baum gehängt hatte.
9:25 But when Esther came before the king, he commanded by letters that his wicked device, which he devised against the Jews, should return upon his own head, and that he and his sons should be hanged on the gallows.
9:26 Daher sie diese Tage Purim nannten nach dem Namen des Loses. Und nach allen Worten dieses Briefes und dem, was sie selbst gesehen hatten und was an sie gelangt war,
9:26 Wherefore they called these days Purim after the name of Pur. Therefore for all the words of this letter, and of that which they had seen concerning this matter, and which had come unto them,
9:27 richteten die Juden es auf und nahmen's auf sich und auf ihre Nachkommen und auf alle, die sich zu ihnen taten, daß sie nicht unterlassen wollten, zu halten diese zwei Tage jährlich, wie die vorgeschrieben und bestimmt waren;
9:27 The Jews ordained, and took upon them, and upon their seed, and upon all such as joined themselves unto them, so as it should not fail, that they would keep these two days according to their writing, and according to their appointed time every year;
9:28 daß diese Tage nicht vergessen, sondern zu halten seien bei Kindeskindern, bei allen Geschlechtern, in allen Ländern und Städten. Es sind die Tage Purim, welche nicht sollen übergangen werden unter den Juden, und ihr Gedächtnis soll nicht umkommen bei ihren Nachkommen.
9:28 And that these days should be remembered and kept throughout every generation, every family, every province, and every city; and that these days of Purim should not fail from among the Jews, nor the memorial of them perish from their seed.
9:29 Und die Königin Esther, die Tochter Abihails, und Mardochai, der Jude, schrieben mit ganzem Ernst, um es zu bestätigen, diesen zweiten Brief von Purim;
9:29 Then Esther the queen, the daughter of Abihail, and Mordecai the Jew, wrote with all authority, to confirm this second letter of Purim.
9:30 und er sandte die Briefe zu allen Juden in den hundert und siebenundzwanzig Ländern des Königreichs des Ahasveros mit freundlichen und treuen Worten:
9:30 And he sent the letters unto all the Jews, to the hundred twenty and seven provinces of the kingdom of Ahasuerus, with words of peace and truth,
9:31 daß sie annähmen die Tage Purim auf die bestimmte Zeit, wie Mardochai, der Jude, über sie bestätigt hatte und die Königin Esther, und wie sie für sich selbst und ihre Nachkommen bestätigt hatten die Geschichte der Fasten und ihres Schreiens.
9:31 To confirm these days of Purim in their times appointed, according as Mordecai the Jew and Esther the queen had commanded with authority them, and as they had decreed for themselves and for their seed, the matters of the fastings and their cry.
9:32 Und Esther befahl, die Geschichte dieser Purim zu bestätigen. Und es ward in ein Buch geschrieben.
9:32 And the decree of Esther confirmed these matters of Purim; and it was written in the book.

10:1 Und der König Ahasveros legte Zins aufs Land und auf die Inseln im Meer.
10:1 And the king Ahasuerus laid a tribute upon the land, and upon the isles of the sea.
10:2 Aber alle Werke seiner Gewalt und Macht und die große Herrlichkeit Mardochais, die ihm der König gab, siehe, das ist geschrieben in der Chronik der Könige in Medien und Persien. {~}
10:2 And all the acts of his power and of his might, and the declaration of the greatness of Mordecai, unto which the king advanced him, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Media and Persia?
10:3 Denn Mardochai, der Jude, war der nächste nach dem König Ahasveros und groß unter den Juden und angenehm unter der Menge seiner Brüder, der für sein Volk Gutes suchte und redete das Beste für sein ganzes Geschlecht.
10:3 For Mordecai the Jew was next unto king Ahasuerus, and great among the Jews, and accepted of the multitude of his brethren, seeking the wealth of his people, and speaking peace to all his seed.
