IICorinthians / 2 KORINTHER
1:1 Paulus, ein Apostel Jesu Christi durch den Willen Gottes, und Bruder Timotheus der Gemeinde Gottes zu Korinth samt allen Heiligen in ganz Achaja:
1:1 Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God, and Timothy our brother, unto the church of God which is at Corinth, with all the saints which are in all Achaia:
1:2 Gnade sei mit euch und Friede von Gott, unserm Vater, und dem HERRN Jesus Christus!
1:2 Grace be to you and peace from God our Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ.
1:3 Gelobet sei Gott und der Vater unsers HERRN Jesu Christi, der Vater der Barmherzigkeit und Gott alles Trostes,
1:3 Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort;
1:4 der uns tröstet in aller unsrer Trübsal, daß auch wir trösten können, die da sind in allerlei Trübsal, mit dem Trost, damit wir getröstet werden von Gott.
1:4 Who comforts us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble, by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God.
1:5 Denn gleichwie wir des Leidens Christi viel haben, also werden wir auch reichlich getröstet durch Christum.
1:5 For as the sufferings of Christ abound in us, so our consolation also abounds by Christ.
1:6 Wir haben aber Trübsal oder Trost, so geschieht es euch zugute. Ist's Trübsal, so geschieht es euch zu Trost und Heil; welches Heil sich beweist, so ihr leidet mit Geduld, dermaßen, wie wir leiden. Ist's Trost, so geschieht auch das euch zu Trost und Heil;
1:6 And whether we be afflicted, it is for your consolation and salvation, which is effectual in the enduring of the same sufferings which we also suffer: or whether we be comforted, it is for your consolation and salvation.
1:7 und unsre Hoffnung steht fest für euch, dieweil wir wissen, daß, wie ihr des Leidens teilhaftig seid, so werdet ihr auch des Trostes teilhaftig sein.
1:7 And our hope of you is steadfast, knowing, that as all of you are partakers of the sufferings, so shall all of you be also of the consolation.
1:8 Denn wir wollen euch nicht verhalten, liebe Brüder, unsre Trübsal, die uns in Asien widerfahren ist, da wir über die Maßen beschwert waren und über Macht, also daß wir auch am Leben verzagten
1:8 For we would not, brethren, have you ignorant of our trouble which came to us in Asia, that we were pressed out of measure, above strength, insomuch that we despaired even of life:
1:9 und bei uns beschlossen hatten, wir müßten sterben. Das geschah aber darum, damit wir unser Vertrauen nicht auf uns selbst sollen stellen, sondern auf Gott, der die Toten auferweckt,
1:9 But we had the sentence of death in ourselves, that we should not trust in ourselves, but in God which raises the dead:
1:10 welcher uns von solchem Tode erlöst hat und noch täglich erlöst; und wir hoffen auf ihn, er werde uns auch hinfort erlösen,
1:10 Who delivered us from so great a death, and does deliver: in whom we trust that he will yet deliver us;
1:11 durch Hilfe auch eurer Fürbitte für uns, auf daß über uns für die Gabe, die uns gegeben ist, durch viel Personen viel Dank geschehe.
1:11 All of you also helping together by prayer for us, that for the gift bestowed upon us by the means of many persons thanks may be given by many on our behalf.
1:12 Denn unser Ruhm ist dieser: das Zeugnis unsers Gewissens, daß wir in Einfalt und göttlicher Lauterkeit, nicht in fleischlicher Weisheit, sondern in der Gnade Gottes auf der Welt gewandelt haben, allermeist aber bei euch.
1:12 For our rejoicing is this, the testimony of our conscience, that in simplicity and godly sincerity, not with fleshly wisdom, but by the grace of God, we have had our conversation in the world, and more abundantly toward you.
1:13 Denn wir schreiben euch nichts anderes, als was ihr leset und auch befindet. Ich hoffe aber, ihr werdet uns auch bis ans Ende also befinden, gleichwie ihr uns zum Teil befunden habt.
1:13 For we write no other things unto you, than what all of you read or acknowledge; and I trust all of you shall acknowledge even to the end;
1:14 Denn wir sind euer Ruhm, gleichwie auch ihr unser Ruhm seid auf des HERRN Jesu Tag.
1:14 As also all of you have acknowledged us in part, that we are your rejoicing, even as all of you also are our's in the day of the Lord Jesus.
1:15 Und auf solch Vertrauen gedachte ich jenes Mal zu euch zu kommen, auf daß ihr abermals eine Wohltat empfinget,
1:15 And in this confidence I was minded to come unto you before, that all of you might have a second benefit;
1:16 und ich durch euch nach Mazedonien reiste und wiederum aus Mazedonien zu euch käme und von euch geleitet würde nach Judäa.
1:16 And to pass by you into Macedonia, and to come again out of Macedonia unto you, and of you to be brought on my way toward Judaea.
1:17 Bin ich aber leichtfertig gewesen, da ich solches dachte? Oder sind meine Anschläge fleischlich? Nicht also; sondern bei mir ist Ja Ja, und Nein ist Nein.
1:17 When I therefore was thus minded, did I use levity? or the things that I purpose, do I purpose according to the flesh, that with me there should be yea yea, and nay nay?
1:18 Aber, o ein treuer Gott, daß unser Wort an euch nicht Ja und Nein gewesen ist.
1:18 But as God is true, our word (o. logos) toward you was not yea and nay.
1:19 Denn der Sohn Gottes, Jesus Christus, der unter euch durch uns gepredigt ist, durch mich und Silvanus und Timotheus, der war nicht Ja und Nein, sondern es war Ja in ihm.
1:19 For the Son of God, Jesus Christ, who was preached among you by us, even by me and Silvanus and Timotheus, was not yea and nay, but in him was yea.
1:20 Denn alle Gottesverheißungen sind Ja in ihm und sind Amen in ihm, Gott zu Lobe durch uns.
1:20 For all the promises of God in him are yea, and in him Amen, unto the glory of God by us.
1:21 Gott ist's aber, der uns befestigt samt euch in Christum und uns gesalbt
1:21 Now he which establishes us with you in Christ, and has anointed us, is God;
1:22 und versiegelt und in unsre Herzen das Pfand, den Geist, gegeben hat.
1:22 Who has also sealed us, and given the earn of the Spirit (o. pneuma) in our hearts.
1:23 Ich rufe aber Gott an zum Zeugen auf meine Seele, daß ich euch verschont habe in dem, daß ich nicht wieder gen Korinth gekommen bin.
1:23 Moreover I call God for a record upon my soul, that to spare you I came not as yet unto Corinth.
1:24 Nicht daß wir Herren seien über euren Glauben, sondern wir sind Gehilfen eurer Freude; denn ihr stehet im Glauben.
1:24 Not for that we have dominion over your faith, but are helpers of your joy: for by faith all of you stand.

2:1 Ich dachte aber solches bei mir, daß ich nicht abermals in Traurigkeit zu euch käme.
2:1 But I determined this with myself, that I would not come again to you in heaviness.
2:2 Denn, so ich euch traurig mache, wer ist, der mich fröhlich mache, wenn nicht, der da von mir betrübt wird?
2:2 For if I make you sorry, who is he then that makes me glad, but the same which is made sorry by me?
2:3 Und dasselbe habe ich euch geschrieben, daß ich nicht, wenn ich käme, über die traurig sein müßte, über welche ich mich billig soll freuen; sintemal ich mich des zu euch allen versehe, daß meine Freude euer aller Freude sei.
2:3 And I wrote this same unto you, lest, when I came, I should have sorrow from them of whom I ought to rejoice; having confidence in you all, that my joy is the joy of you all.
2:4 Denn ich schrieb euch in großer Trübsal und Angst des Herzens mit viel Tränen; nicht, daß ihr solltet betrübt werden, sondern auf daß ihr die Liebe erkennet, welche ich habe sonderlich zu euch.
2:4 For out of much affliction and anguish of heart I wrote unto you with many tears; not that all of you should be grieved, but that all of you might know the love (o. agape) which I have more abundantly unto you.
2:5 So aber jemand eine Betrübnis hat angerichtet, der hat nicht mich betrübt, sondern zum Teil, auf daß ich nicht zu viel sage, euch alle.
2:5 But if any have caused grief, he has not grieved me, but in part: that I may not burden you all.
2:6 Es ist aber genug, daß derselbe von vielen also gestraft ist,
2:6 Sufficient to such a man is this punishment, which was inflicted of many.
2:7 daß ihr nun hinfort ihm desto mehr vergebet und ihn tröstet, auf daß er nicht in allzu große Traurigkeit versinke.
2:7 So that contrariwise all of you ought rather to forgive him, and comfort him, lest perhaps such a one should be swallowed up with overmuch sorrow.
2:8 Darum ermahne ich euch, daß ihr die Liebe an ihm beweiset.
2:8 Wherefore I plead to you that all of you would confirm your love (o. agape) toward him.
2:9 Denn darum habe ich euch auch geschrieben, daß ich erkennte, ob ihr rechtschaffen seid, gehorsam zu sein in allen Stücken.
2:9 In order to this end also did I write, that I might know the proof of you, whether all of you be obedient in all things.
2:10 Welchem aber ihr etwas vergebet, dem vergebe ich auch. Denn auch ich, so ich etwas vergebe jemand, das vergebe ich um euretwillen an Christi Statt,
2:10 To whom all of you forgive any thing, I forgive also: for if I forgave any thing, to whom I forgave it, for your sakes forgave I it in the person of Christ;
2:11 auf daß wir nicht übervorteilt werden vom Satan; denn uns ist nicht unbewußt, was er im Sinn hat.
2:11 Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.
2:12 Da ich aber gen Troas kam, zu predigen das Evangelium Christi, und mir eine Tür aufgetan war in dem HERRN,
2:12 Furthermore, when I came to Troas to preach Christ's gospel, and a door was opened unto me of the Lord,
2:13 hatte ich keine Ruhe in meinem Geist, da ich Titus, meinen Bruder, nicht fand; sondern ich machte meinen Abschied mit ihnen und fuhr aus nach Mazedonien.
2:13 I had no rest in my spirit, (o. pneuma) because I found not Titus my brother: but taking my leave of them, I went from thence into Macedonia.
2:14 Aber Gott sei gedankt, der uns allezeit Sieg gibt in Christo und offenbart den Geruch seiner Erkenntnis durch uns an allen Orten!
2:14 Now thanks be unto God, which always causes us to triumph in Christ, and makes manifest the savour of his knowledge by us in every place.
2:15 Denn wir sind Gott ein guter Geruch Christi unter denen, die selig werden, und unter denen, die verloren werden:
2:15 For we are unto God a sweet savour of Christ, in them that are saved, and in them that perish:
2:16 diesen ein Geruch des Todes zum Tode, jenen aber ein Geruch des Lebens zum Leben. Und wer ist hierzu tüchtig?
2:16 To the one we are the savour of death unto death; and to the other the savour of life unto life. And who is sufficient for these things?
2:17 Denn wir sind nicht, wie die vielen, die das Wort Gottes verfälschen; sondern als aus Lauterkeit und als aus Gott reden wir vor Gott in Christo.
2:17 For we are not as many, which corrupt the word (o. logos) of God: but as of sincerity, but as of God, in the sight of God speak we in Christ.

3:1 Heben wir denn abermals an, uns selbst zu preisen? Oder bedürfen wir, wie etliche, der Lobebriefe an euch oder Lobebriefe von euch?
3:1 Do we begin again to commend ourselves? or need we, as some others, epistles of commendation to you, or letters of commendation from you?
3:2 Ihr seid unser Brief, in unser Herz geschrieben, der erkannt und gelesen wird von allen Menschen;
3:2 All of you are our epistle written in our hearts, known and read of all men:
3:3 die ihr offenbar geworden seid, daß ihr ein Brief Christi seid, durch unsern Dienst zubereitet, und geschrieben nicht mit Tinte, sondern mit dem Geist des lebendigen Gottes, nicht in steinerne Tafeln, sondern in fleischerne Tafeln des Herzens.
3:3 Forasmuch as all of you are manifestly declared to be the epistle of Christ ministered by us, written not with ink, but with the Spirit (o. pneuma) of the living God; not in tables of stone, but in fleshy tables of the heart.
3:4 Ein solch Vertrauen aber haben wir durch Christum zu Gott.
3:4 And such trust have we through Christ toward God:
3:5 Nicht, daß wir tüchtig sind von uns selber, etwas zu denken als von uns selber; sondern daß wir tüchtig sind, ist von Gott,
3:5 Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think any thing as of ourselves; but our sufficiency is of God;
3:6 welcher auch uns tüchtig gemacht hat, das Amt zu führen des Neuen Testaments, nicht des Buchstaben, sondern des Geistes. Denn der Buchstabe tötet, aber der Geist macht lebendig.
3:6 Who also has made us able ministers of the new testament; not of the letter, but of the spirit: (o. pneuma) for the letter kills, but the spirit (o. pneuma) gives life.
3:7 So aber das Amt, das durch die Buchstaben tötet und in die Steine gebildet war, Klarheit hatte, also daß die Kinder Israel nicht konnten ansehen das Angesicht Mose's um der Klarheit willen seines Angesichtes, die doch aufhört,
3:7 But if the ministration of death, written and engraved in stones, was glorious, so that the children of Israel could not steadfastly behold the face of Moses for the glory of his countenance; which glory was to be done away:
3:8 wie sollte nicht viel mehr das Amt, das den Geist gibt, Klarheit haben!
3:8 How shall not the ministration of the spirit (o. pneuma) be rather glorious?
3:9 Denn so das Amt, das die Verdammnis predigt, Klarheit hat, wie viel mehr hat das Amt, das die Gerechtigkeit predigt, überschwengliche Klarheit.
3:9 For if the ministration of condemnation be glory, much more does the ministration of righteousness exceed in glory.
3:10 Denn auch jenes Teil, das verklärt war, ist nicht für Klarheit zu achten gegen die überschwengliche Klarheit.
3:10 For even that which was made glorious had no glory in this respect, by reason of the glory that excels.
3:11 Denn so das Klarheit hatte, das da aufhört, wie viel mehr wird das Klarheit haben, das da bleibt.
3:11 For if that which is done away was glorious, much more that which remains is glorious.
3:12 Dieweil wir nun solche Hoffnung haben, sind wir voll großer Freudigkeit
3:12 Seeing then that we have such hope, we use great plainness of speech:
3:13 und tun nicht wie Mose, der die Decke vor sein Angesicht hing, daß die Kinder Israel nicht ansehen konnten das Ende des, das aufhört;
3:13 And not as Moses, which put a vail over his face, that the children of Israel could not steadfastly look to the end of that which is abolished:
3:14 sondern ihre Sinne sind verstockt. Denn bis auf den heutigen Tag bleibt diese Decke unaufgedeckt über dem alten Testament, wenn sie es lesen, welche in Christo aufhört;
3:14 But their minds were blinded: for until this day remains the same vail untaken away in the reading of the old testament; which vail is done away in Christ.
3:15 aber bis auf den heutigen Tag, wenn Mose gelesen wird, hängt die Decke vor ihrem Herzen.
3:15 But even unto this day, when Moses is read, the vail is upon their heart.
3:16 Wenn es aber sich bekehrte zu dem HERRN, so würde die Decke abgetan.
3:16 Nevertheless when it shall turn to the Lord, the vail shall be taken away.
3:17 Denn der HERR ist der Geist; wo aber der Geist des HERRN ist, da ist Freiheit.
3:17 Now the Lord is that Spirit: (o. pneuma) and where the Spirit (o. pneuma) of the Lord is, there is liberty.
3:18 Nun aber spiegelt sich in uns allen des HERRN Klarheit mit aufgedecktem Angesicht, und wir werden verklärt in dasselbe Bild von einer Klarheit zu der andern, als vom HERRN, der der Geist ist.
3:18 But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit (o. pneuma) of the LORD.

4:1 Darum, dieweil wir ein solch Amt haben, wie uns denn Barmherzigkeit widerfahren ist, so werden wir nicht müde,
4:1 Therefore seeing we have this ministry, as we have received mercy, we faint not;
4:2 sondern meiden auch heimliche Schande und gehen nicht mit Schalkheit um, fälschen auch nicht Gottes Wort; sondern mit Offenbarung der Wahrheit beweisen wir uns wohl an aller Menschen Gewissen vor Gott.
4:2 But have renounced the hidden things of dishonesty, not walking in craftiness, nor handling the word (o. logos) of God deceitfully; but by manifestation of the truth commending ourselves to every man's conscience in the sight of God.
4:3 Ist nun unser Evangelium verdeckt, so ist's in denen, die verloren werden, verdeckt;
4:3 But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost:
4:4 bei welchen der Gott dieser Welt der Ungläubigen Sinn verblendet hat, daß sie nicht sehen das helle Licht des Evangeliums von der Klarheit Christi, welcher ist das Ebenbild Gottes.
4:4 In whom the god of this world has blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.
4:5 Denn wir predigen nicht uns selbst, sondern Jesum Christum, daß er sei der HERR, wir aber eure Knechte um Jesu willen.
4:5 For we preach not ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord; and ourselves your servants for Jesus' sake.
4:6 Denn Gott, der da hieß das Licht aus der Finsternis hervorleuchten, der hat einen hellen Schein in unsere Herzen gegeben, daß durch uns entstünde die Erleuchtung von der Erkenntnis der Klarheit Gottes in dem Angesichte Jesu Christi.
4:6 For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, has shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.
4:7 Wir haben aber solchen Schatz in irdischen Gefäßen, auf daß die überschwengliche Kraft sei Gottes und nicht von uns.
4:7 But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us.
4:8 Wir haben allenthalben Trübsal, aber wir ängsten uns nicht; uns ist bange, aber wir verzagen nicht;
4:8 We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed; we are perplexed, but not in despair;
4:9 wir leiden Verfolgung, aber wir werden nicht verlassen; wir werden unterdrückt, aber wir kommen nicht um;
4:9 Persecuted, but not forsaken; cast down, but not destroyed;
4:10 und tragen allezeit das Sterben des HERRN Jesu an unserm Leibe, auf daß auch das Leben des HERRN Jesu an unserm Leibe offenbar werde.
4:10 Always bearing about in the body the dying of the Lord Jesus, that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our body.
4:11 Denn wir, die wir leben, werden immerdar in den Tod gegeben um Jesu willen, auf das auch das Leben Jesu offenbar werde an unserm sterblichen Fleische.
4:11 For we which live are always delivered unto death for Jesus' sake, that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our mortal flesh.
4:12 Darum ist nun der Tod mächtig in uns, aber das Leben in euch.
4:12 So then death works in us, but life in you.
4:13 Dieweil wir aber denselbigen Geist des Glaubens haben, nach dem, das geschrieben steht: "Ich glaube, darum rede ich", so glauben wir auch, darum so reden wir auch
4:13 We having the same spirit (o. pneuma) of faith, according as it is written, I believed, and therefore have I spoken; we also believe, and therefore speak;
4:14 und wissen, daß der, so den HERRN Jesus hat auferweckt, wird uns auch auferwecken durch Jesum und wird uns darstellen samt euch.
4:14 Knowing that he which raised up the Lord Jesus shall raise up us also by Jesus, and shall present us with you.
4:15 Denn das geschieht alles um euretwillen, auf daß die überschwengliche Gnade durch vieler Danksagen Gott reichlich preise.
4:15 For all things are for your sakes, that the abundant grace might through the thanksgiving of many redound to the glory of God.
4:16 Darum werden wir nicht müde; sondern, ob unser äußerlicher Mensch verdirbt, so wird doch der innerliche von Tag zu Tag erneuert.
4:16 For which cause we faint not; but though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day.
4:17 Denn unsre Trübsal, die zeitlich und leicht ist, schafft eine ewige und über alle Maßen wichtige Herrlichkeit
4:17 For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, works for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory;
4:18 uns, die wir nicht sehen auf das Sichtbare, sondern auf das Unsichtbare. Denn was sichtbar ist, das ist zeitlich; was aber unsichtbar ist, das ist ewig.
4:18 While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal.

5:1 Wir wissen aber, so unser irdisch Haus dieser Hütte zerbrochen wird, daß wir einen Bau haben, von Gott erbauet, ein Haus, nicht mit Händen gemacht, das ewig ist, im Himmel.
5:1 For we know that if our earthly house of this tabernacle were dissolved, we have a building of God, an house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens.
5:2 Und darüber sehnen wir uns auch nach unsrer Behausung, die vom Himmel ist, und uns verlangt, daß wir damit überkleidet werden;
5:2 For in this we groan, earnestly desiring to be clothed upon with our house which is from heaven:
5:3 so doch, wo wir bekleidet und nicht bloß erfunden werden.
5:3 If so be that being clothed we shall not be found naked.
5:4 Denn dieweil wir in der Hütte sind, sehnen wir uns und sind beschwert; sintemal wir wollten lieber nicht entkleidet, sondern überkleidet werden, auf daß das Sterbliche würde verschlungen von dem Leben.
5:4 For we that are in this tabernacle do groan, being burdened: not for that we would be unclothed, but clothed upon, that mortality might be swallowed up of life.
5:5 Der uns aber dazu bereitet, das ist Gott, der uns das Pfand, den Geist, gegeben hat.
5:5 Now he that has wrought us for the very same thing is God, who also has given unto us the earn of the Spirit. (o. pneuma)
5:6 So sind wir denn getrost allezeit und wissen, daß, dieweil wir im Leibe wohnen, so wallen wir ferne vom HERRN;
5:6 Therefore we are always confident, knowing that, whilst we are at home in the body, we are absent from the Lord:
5:7 denn wir wandeln im Glauben, und nicht im Schauen.
5:7 (For we walk by faith, not by sight:)
5:8 Wir sind aber getrost und haben vielmehr Lust, außer dem Leibe zu wallen und daheim zu sein bei dem HERRN.
5:8 We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord.
5:9 Darum fleißigen wir uns auch, wir sind daheim oder wallen, daß wir ihm wohl gefallen.
5:9 Wherefore we labour, that, whether present or absent, we may be accepted of him.
5:10 Denn wir müssen alle offenbar werden vor dem Richtstuhl Christi, auf daß ein jeglicher empfange, nach dem er gehandelt hat bei Leibesleben, es sei gut oder böse.
5:10 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he has done, whether it be good or bad.
5:11 Dieweil wir denn wissen, daß der HERR zu fürchten ist, fahren wir schön mit den Leuten; aber Gott sind wir offenbar. Ich hoffe aber, daß wir auch in eurem Gewissen offenbar sind.
5:11 Knowing therefore the terror of the Lord, we persuade men; but we are made manifest unto God; and I trust also are made manifest in your consciences.
5:12 Wir loben uns nicht abermals bei euch, sondern geben euch eine Ursache, zu rühmen von uns, auf daß ihr habt zu rühmen wider die, so sich nach dem Ansehen rühmen, und nicht nach dem Herzen.
5:12 For we commend not ourselves again unto you, but give you occasion to glory on our behalf, that all of you may have somewhat to answer them which glory in appearance, and not in heart.
5:13 Denn tun wir zu viel, so tun wir's Gott; sind wir mäßig, so sind wir euch mäßig.
5:13 For whether we be beside ourselves, it is to God: or whether we be sober, it is for your cause.
5:14 Denn die Liebe Christi dringt in uns also, sintemal wir halten, daß, so einer für alle gestorben ist, so sind sie alle gestorben;
5:14 For the love (o. agape) of Christ constrains us; because we thus judge, that if one died for all, then were all dead:
5:15 und er ist darum für alle gestorben, auf daß die, so da leben, hinfort nicht sich selbst leben, sondern dem, der für sie gestorben und auferstanden ist.
5:15 And that he died for all, that they which live should not henceforth live unto themselves, but unto him which died for them, and rose again.
5:16 Darum kennen wir von nun an niemand nach dem Fleisch; und ob wir auch Christum gekannt haben nach dem Fleisch, so kennen wir ihn doch jetzt nicht mehr.
5:16 Wherefore henceforth know we no man after the flesh: yea, though we have known Christ after the flesh, yet now henceforth know we him no more.
5:17 Darum, ist jemand in Christo, so ist er eine neue Kreatur; das Alte ist vergangen, siehe, es ist alles neu geworden!
5:17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.
5:18 Aber das alles von Gott, der uns mit ihm selber versöhnt hat durch Jesum Christum und das Amt gegeben, das die Versöhnung predigt.
5:18 And all things are of God, who has reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and has given to us the ministry of reconciliation;
5:19 Denn Gott war in Christo und versöhnte die Welt mit ihm selber und rechnete ihnen ihre Sünden nicht zu und hat unter uns aufgerichtet das Wort von der Versöhnung.
5:19 To know, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and has committed unto us the word (o. logos) of reconciliation.
5:20 So sind wir nun Botschafter an Christi Statt, denn Gott vermahnt durch uns; so bitten wir nun an Christi Statt: Lasset euch versöhnen mit Gott.
5:20 Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did plead to you by us: we pray you in Christ's position, be all of you reconciled to God.
5:21 Denn er hat den, der von keiner Sünde wußte, für uns zur Sünde gemacht, auf daß wir würden in ihm die Gerechtigkeit, die vor Gott gilt.
5:21 For he has made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.

6:1 Wir ermahnen aber euch als Mithelfer, daß ihr nicht vergeblich die Gnade Gottes empfanget.
6:1 We then, as workers together with him, plead to you also that all of you receive not the grace of God in vain.
6:2 Denn er spricht: "Ich habe dich in der angenehmen Zeit erhört und habe dir am Tage des Heils geholfen." Sehet, jetzt ist die angenehme Zeit, jetzt ist der Tag des Heils!
6:2 (For he says, I have heard you in a time accepted, and in the day of salvation have I helped you: behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.)
6:3 Und wir geben niemand irgend ein Ärgernis, auf daß unser Amt nicht verlästert werde;
6:3 Giving no offence in any thing, that the ministry be not blamed:
6:4 sondern in allen Dingen beweisen wir uns als die Diener Gottes: in großer Geduld, in Trübsalen, in Nöten, in Ängsten,
6:4 But in all things approving ourselves as the ministers of God, in much patience, in afflictions, in necessities, in distresses,
6:5 in Schlägen, in Gefängnissen, in Aufruhren, in Arbeit, in Wachen, in Fasten,
6:5 In stripes, in imprisonments, in tumults, in labours, in watchings, in fastings;
6:6 in Keuschheit, in Erkenntnis, in Langmut, in Freundlichkeit, in dem heiligen Geist, in ungefärbter Liebe,
6:6 By pureness, by knowledge, by longsuffering, by kindness, by the Holy Spirit, (o. pneuma) by love (o. agape) sincere,
6:7 in dem Wort der Wahrheit, in der Kraft Gottes, durch Waffen der Gerechtigkeit zur Rechten und zur Linken,
6:7 By the word (o. logos) of truth, by the power of God, by the armour of righteousness on the right hand and on the left,
6:8 durch Ehre und Schande, durch böse Gerüchte und gute Gerüchte: als die Verführer, und doch wahrhaftig;
6:8 By honour and dishonour, by evil report and good report: as deceivers, and yet true;
6:9 als die Unbekannten, und doch bekannt; als die Sterbenden, und siehe, wir leben; als die Gezüchtigten, und doch nicht ertötet;
6:9 As unknown, and yet well known; as dying, and, behold, we live; as chastened, and not killed;
6:10 als die Traurigen, aber allezeit fröhlich; als die Armen, aber die doch viele reich machen; als die nichts innehaben, und doch alles haben.
6:10 As sorrowful, yet always rejoicing; as poor, yet making many rich; as having nothing, and yet possessing all things.
6:11 O ihr Korinther! unser Mund hat sich zu euch aufgetan, unser Herz ist weit.
6:11 O all of you Corinthians, our mouth is open unto you, our heart is enlarged.
6:12 Ihr habt nicht engen Raum in uns; aber eng ist's in euren Herzen.
6:12 All of you are not straitened in us, but all of you are straitened in your own bowels.
6:13 Ich rede mit euch als mit meinen Kindern, daß ihr euch auch also gegen mich stellet und werdet auch weit.
6:13 Now for a recompence in the same, (I speak as unto my children,) be all of you also enlarged.
6:14 Ziehet nicht am fremden Joch mit den Ungläubigen. Denn was hat die Gerechtigkeit zu schaffen mit der Ungerechtigkeit? Was hat das Licht für Gemeinschaft mit der Finsternis?
6:14 Be all of you not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship has righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion has light with darkness?
6:15 Wie stimmt Christus mit Belial? Oder was für ein Teil hat der Gläubige mit dem Ungläubigen?
6:15 And what concord has Christ with Belial? or what part has he that believes with an infidel?
6:16 Was hat der Tempel Gottes für Gleichheit mit den Götzen? Ihr aber seid der Tempel des lebendigen Gottes; wie denn Gott spricht: "Ich will unter ihnen wohnen und unter ihnen wandeln und will ihr Gott sein, und sie sollen mein Volk sein.
6:16 And what agreement has the temple of God with idols? for all of you are the temple of the living God; as God has said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.
6:17 Darum gehet aus von ihnen und sondert euch ab, spricht der HERR, und rührt kein Unreines an, so will ich euch annehmen
6:17 Wherefore come out from among them, and be all of you separate, says the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you.
6:18 und euer Vater sein, und ihr sollt meine Söhne und Töchter sein, spricht der allmächtige HERR."
6:18 And will be a Father unto you, and all of you shall be my sons and daughters, says the Lord Almighty.
IICorinthians / 2 KORINTHER
7:1 Dieweil wir nun solche Verheißungen haben, meine Liebsten, so lasset uns von aller Befleckung des Fleisches und des Geistes uns reinigen und fortfahren mit der Heiligung in der Furcht Gottes.
7:1 Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, (o. pneuma) perfecting holiness in the fear of God.
7:2 Fasset uns: Wir haben niemand Leid getan, wir haben niemand verletzt, wir haben niemand übervorteilt.
7:2 Receive us; we have wronged no man, we have corrupted no man, we have defrauded no man.
7:3 Nicht sage ich solches, euch zu verdammen; denn ich habe droben zuvor gesagt, daß ihr in unsern Herzen seid, mitzusterben und mitzuleben.
7:3 I speak not this to condemn you: for I have said before, that all of you are in our hearts to die and live with you.
7:4 Ich rede mit großer Freudigkeit zu euch; ich rühme viel von euch; ich bin erfüllt mit Trost; ich bin überschwenglich in Freuden und in aller unsrer Trübsal.
7:4 Great is my boldness of speech toward you, great is my glorying of you: I am filled with comfort, I am exceeding joyful in all our tribulation.
7:5 Denn da wir nach Mazedonien kamen, hatte unser Fleisch keine Ruhe; sondern allenthalben waren wir in Trübsal: auswendig Streit, inwendig Furcht.
7:5 For, when we were come into Macedonia, our flesh had no rest, but we were troubled on every side; without were fightings, within were fears.
7:6 Aber Gott, der die Geringen tröstet, der tröstete auch uns durch die Ankunft des Titus;
7:6 Nevertheless God, that comforts those that are cast down, comforted us by the coming of Titus;
7:7 nicht allein aber durch seine Ankunft, sondern auch durch den Trost, mit dem er getröstet war an euch, da er uns verkündigte euer Verlangen, euer Weinen, euren Eifer um mich, also daß ich mich noch mehr freute.
7:7 And not by his coming only, but by the consolation wherewith he was comforted in you, when he told us your earn desire, your mourning, your fervent mind toward me; so that I rejoiced the more.
7:8 Denn daß ich euch durch den Brief habe traurig gemacht, reut mich nicht. Und ob's mich reute, dieweil ich sehe, daß der Brief vielleicht eine Weile euch betrübt hat,
7:8 For though I made you sorry with a letter, I do not repent, though I did repent: for I perceive that the same epistle has made you sorry, though it were but for a season.
7:9 so freue ich mich doch nun, nicht darüber, daß ihr seid betrübt worden, sondern daß ihr betrübt seid worden zur Reue. Denn ihr seid göttlich betrübt worden, daß ihr von uns ja keinen Schaden irgendworin nehmet.
7:9 Now I rejoice, not that all of you were made sorry, but that all of you sorrowed to repentance: for all of you were made sorry after a godly manner, that all of you might receive damage by us in nothing.
7:10 Denn göttliche Traurigkeit wirkt zur Seligkeit einen Reue, die niemand gereut; die Traurigkeit aber der Welt wirkt den Tod.
7:10 For godly sorrow works repentance to salvation not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world works death.
7:11 Siehe, daß ihr göttlich seid betrübt worden, welchen Fleiß hat das in euch gewirkt, dazu Verantwortung, Zorn, Furcht, Verlangen, Eifer, Rache! Ihr habt euch bewiesen in allen Stücken, daß ihr rein seid in der Sache.
7:11 For behold this very same thing, that all of you sorrowed after a godly sort, what carefulness it wrought in you, yea, what clearing of yourselves, yea, what indignation, yea, what fear, yea, what vehement desire, yea, what zeal, yea, what revenge! In all things all of you have approved yourselves to be clear in this matter.
7:12 Darum, ob ich euch geschrieben habe, so ist's doch nicht geschehen um des willen, der beleidigt hat, auch nicht um des willen, der beleidigt ist, sondern um deswillen, daß euer Fleiß gegen uns offenbar sein würde bei euch vor Gott.
7:12 Wherefore, though I wrote unto you, I did it not for his cause that had done the wrong, nor for his cause that suffered wrong, but that our care for you in the sight of God might appear unto you.
7:13 Derhalben sind wir getröstet worden, daß ihr getröstet seid. Überschwenglicher aber haben wir uns noch gefreut über die Freude des Titus; denn sein Geist ist erquickt an euch allen.
7:13 Therefore we were comforted in your comfort: yea, and exceedingly more rejoice did we for the joy of Titus, because his spirit (o. pneuma) was refreshed by you all.
7:14 Denn was ich vor ihm von euch gerühmt habe, darin bin ich nicht zu Schanden geworden; sondern, gleichwie alles wahr ist, was ich von euch geredet habe, also ist auch unser Rühmen vor Titus wahr geworden.
7:14 For if I have boasted any thing to him of you, I am not ashamed; but as we spoke all things to you in truth, even so our boasting, which I made before Titus, is found a truth.
7:15 Und er ist überaus herzlich wohl gegen euch gesinnt, wenn er gedenkt an euer aller Gehorsam, wie ihr ihn mit Furcht und Zittern habt aufgenommen.
7:15 And his inward affection is more abundant toward you, whilst he remembers the obedience of you all, how with fear and trembling all of you received him.
7:16 Ich freue mich, daß ich mich zu euch alles Guten versehen darf.
7:16 I rejoice therefore that I have confidence in you in all things.

8:1 Ich tue euch kund, liebe Brüder, die Gnade Gottes, die in den Gemeinden in Mazedonien gegeben ist.
8:1 Moreover, brethren, we do you to know of the grace of God bestowed on the churches of Macedonia;
8:2 Denn ihre Freude war überschwenglich, da sie durch viel Trübsal bewährt wurden; und wiewohl sie sehr arm sind, haben sie doch reichlich gegeben in aller Einfalt.
8:2 How that in a great trial of affliction the abundance of their joy and their deep poverty abounded unto the riches of their liberality.
8:3 Denn nach allem Vermögen (das bezeuge ich) und über Vermögen waren sie willig
8:3 In order to their power, I bear record, yea, and beyond their power they were willing of themselves;
8:4 und baten uns mit vielem Zureden, daß wir aufnähmen die Wohltat und Gemeinschaft der Handreichung, die da geschieht den Heiligen;
8:4 Praying us with much entreaty that we would receive the gift, and take upon us the fellowship of the ministering to the saints.
8:5 und nicht, wie wir hofften, sondern sie ergaben sich selbst, zuerst dem HERRN und darnach uns, durch den Willen Gottes,
8:5 And this they did, not as we hoped, but first gave their own selves to the Lord, and unto us by the will of God.
8:6 daß wir mußten Titus ermahnen, auf daß er, wie er zuvor angefangen hatte, also auch unter euch solche Wohltat ausrichtete.
8:6 Insomuch that we desired Titus, that as he had begun, so he would also finish in you the same grace also.
8:7 Aber gleichwie ihr in allen Stücken reich seid, im Glauben und im Wort und in der Erkenntnis und in allerlei Fleiß und in eurer Liebe zu uns, also schaffet, daß ihr auch in dieser Wohltat reich seid.
8:7 Therefore, as all of you abound in every thing, in faith, and utterance, (o. logos) and knowledge, and in all diligence, and in your love (o. agape) to us, see that all of you abound in this grace also.
8:8 Nicht sage ich, daß ich etwas gebiete; sondern, dieweil andere so fleißig sind, versuche ich auch eure Liebe, ob sie rechter Art sei.
8:8 I speak not by commandment, but by occasion of the forwardness of others, and to prove the sincerity of your love. (o. agape)
8:9 Denn ihr wisset die Gnade unsers HERRN Jesu Christi, daß, ob er wohl reich ist, ward er doch arm um euretwillen, auf daß ihr durch seine Armut reich würdet.
8:9 For all of you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that, though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, that all of you through his poverty might be rich.
8:10 Und meine Meinung hierin gebe ich; denn solches ist euch nützlich, die ihr angefangen habt vom vorigen Jahre her nicht allein das Tun, sondern auch das Wollen;
8:10 And herein I give my advice: for this is expedient for you, who have begun before, not only to do, but also to be forward a year ago.
8:11 nun aber vollbringet auch das Tun, auf daß, gleichwie da ist ein geneigtes Gemüt, zu wollen, so sei auch da ein geneigtes Gemüt, zu tun von dem, was ihr habt.
8:11 Now therefore perform the doing of it; that as there was a readiness to will, so there may be a performance also out of that which all of you have.
8:12 Denn so einer willig ist, so ist er angenehm, nach dem er hat, nicht nach dem er nicht hat.
8:12 For if there be first a willing mind, it is accepted according to that a man has, and not according to that he has not.
8:13 Nicht geschieht das in der Meinung, daß die andern Ruhe haben, und ihr Trübsal, sondern daß es gleich sei.
8:13 For I mean not that other men be eased, and all of you burdened:
8:14 So diene euer Überfluß ihrem Mangel diese teure Zeit lang, auf daß auch ihr Überfluß hernach diene eurem Mangel und ein Ausgleich geschehe;
8:14 But by an equality, that now at this time your abundance may be a supply for their lack, that their abundance also may be a supply for your lack: that there may be equality:
8:15 wie geschrieben steht: "Der viel sammelte, hatte nicht Überfluß, der wenig sammelte, hatte nicht Mangel."
8:15 As it is written, He that had gathered much had nothing over; and he that had gathered little had no lack.
8:16 Gott aber sei Dank, der solchen Eifer für euch gegeben hat in das Herz des Titus.
8:16 But thanks be to God, which put the same earn care into the heart of Titus for you.
8:17 Denn er nahm zwar die Ermahnung an; aber dieweil er fleißig war, ist er von selber zu euch gereist.
8:17 For indeed he accepted the exhortation; but being more forward, of his own accord he went unto you.
8:18 Wir haben aber einen Bruder mit ihm gesandt, der das Lob hat am Evangelium durch alle Gemeinden.
8:18 And we have sent with him the brother, whose praise is in the gospel throughout all the churches;
8:19 Nicht allein aber das, sondern er ist auch verordnet von den Gemeinden zum Gefährten unsrer Fahrt in dieser Wohltat, welche durch uns ausgerichtet wird dem HERRN zu Ehren und zum Preis eures guten Willens.
8:19 And not that only, but who was also chosen of the churches to travel with us with this grace, which is administered by us to the glory of the same Lord, and declaration of your ready mind:
8:20 Also verhüten wir, daß uns nicht jemand übel nachreden möge solcher reichen Steuer halben, die durch uns ausgerichtet wird;
8:20 Avoiding this, that no man should blame us in this abundance which is administered by us:
8:21 und sehen darauf, daß es redlich zugehe, nicht allein vor dem HERRN sondern auch vor den Menschen.
8:21 Providing for honest things, not only in the sight of the Lord, but also in the sight of men.
8:22 Auch haben wir mit ihnen gesandt unsern Bruder, den wir oft erfunden haben in vielen Stücken, daß er fleißig sei, nun aber viel fleißiger.
8:22 And we have sent with them our brother, whom we have oftentimes proved diligent in many things, but now much more diligent, upon the great confidence which I have in you.
8:23 Und wir sind großer Zuversicht zu euch, es sei des Titus halben, welcher mein Geselle und Gehilfe unter euch ist, oder unsrer Brüder halben, welche Boten sind der Gemeinden und eine Ehre Christi.
8:23 Whether any do enquire of Titus, he is my partner and fellow-helper concerning you: or our brethren be enquired of, they are the messengers of the churches, and the glory of Christ.
8:24 Erzeiget nun die Beweisung eurer Liebe und unsers Rühmens von euch an diesen auch öffentlich vor den Gemeinden!
8:24 Wherefore show all of you to them, and before the churches, the proof of your love, (o. agape) and of our boasting on your behalf.
IICorinthians / 2 KORINTHER
9:1 Denn von solcher Steuer, die den Heiligen geschieht, ist mir nicht not, euch zu schreiben.
9:1 For as concerning the ministering to the saints, it is superfluous for me to write to you:
9:2 Denn ich weiß euren guten Willen, davon ich rühme bei denen aus Mazedonien und sage: Achaja ist schon voriges Jahr bereit gewesen; und euer Beispiel hat viele gereizt.
9:2 For I know the forwardness of your mind, for which I boast of you to them of Macedonia, that Achaia was ready a year ago; and your zeal has provoked very many.
9:3 Ich habe aber diese Brüder darum gesandt, daß nicht unser Rühmen von euch zunichte würde in dem Stücke, und daß ihr bereit seid, gleichwie ich von euch gesagt habe;
9:3 Yet have I sent the brethren, lest our boasting of you should be in vain in this behalf; that, as I said, all of you may be ready:
9:4 auf daß nicht, so die aus Mazedonien mit mir kämen und euch unbereit fänden, wir (will nicht sagen: ihr) zu Schanden würden mit solchem Rühmen.
9:4 Lest lest by any means if they of Macedonia come with me, and find you unprepared, we (that we say not, all of you) should be ashamed in this same confident boasting.
9:5 So habe ich es nun für nötig angesehen, die Brüder zu ermahnen, daß sie voranzögen zu euch, fertigzumachen diesen zuvor verheißenen Segen, daß er bereit sei, also daß es sei ein Segen und nicht ein Geiz.
9:5 Therefore I thought it necessary to exhort the brethren, that they would go before unto you, and make up beforehand your bounty, whereof all of you had notice before, that the same might be ready, as a matter of bounty, and not as of covetousness.
9:6 Ich meine aber das: Wer da kärglich sät, der wird auch kärglich ernten; und wer da sät im Segen, der wird auch ernten im Segen.
9:6 But this I say, He which sows sparingly shall reap also sparingly; and he which sows bountifully shall reap also bountifully.
9:7 Ein jeglicher nach seiner Willkür, nicht mit Unwillen oder aus Zwang; denn einen fröhlichen Geber hat Gott lieb.
9:7 Every man according as he purposes in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loves a cheerful giver.
9:8 Gott aber kann machen, daß allerlei Gnade unter euch reichlich sei, daß ihr in allen Dingen volle Genüge habt und reich seid zu allerlei guten Werken;
9:8 And God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that all of you, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work:
9:9 wie geschrieben steht: "Er hat ausgestreut und gegeben den Armen; seine Gerechtigkeit bleibt in Ewigkeit."
9:9 (As it is written, He has dispersed abroad; he has given to the poor: his righteousness remains for ever.
9:10 Der aber Samen reicht dem Säemann, der wird auch das Brot reichen zur Speise und wird vermehren euren Samen und wachsen lassen das Gewächs eurer Gerechtigkeit,
9:10 Now he that ministers seed to the sower both minister bread for your food, and multiply your seed sown, and increase the fruits of your righteousness;)
9:11 daß ihr reich seid in allen Dingen mit aller Einfalt, welche wirkt durch uns Danksagung Gott.
9:11 Being enriched in every thing to all bountifulness, which causes through us thanksgiving to God.
9:12 Denn die Handreichung dieser Steuer erfüllt nicht allein den Mangel der Heiligen, sondern ist auch überschwenglich darin, daß viele Gott danken für diesen unsern treuen Dienst
9:12 For the administration of this service not only supplies the lack of the saints, but is abundant also by many thanksgivings unto God;
9:13 und preisen Gott über euer untertäniges Bekenntnis des Evangeliums Christi und über eure einfältige Steuer an sie und an alle,
9:13 While by the experiment of this ministration they glorify God for your professed subjection unto the gospel of Christ, and for your liberal distribution unto them, and unto all men;
9:14 indem auch sie nach euch verlangt im Gebet für euch um der überschwenglichen Gnade Gottes willen in euch.
9:14 And by their prayer for you, which long after you for the exceeding grace of God in you.
9:15 Gott aber sei Dank für seine unaussprechliche Gabe!
9:15 Thanks be unto God for his unspeakable gift.

10:1 Ich aber, Paulus, ermahne euch durch die Sanftmütigkeit und Lindigkeit Christi, der ich gegenwärtig unter euch gering bin, abwesend aber dreist gegen euch.
10:1 Now I Paul myself plead to you by the meekness and gentleness of Christ, who in presence am base among you, but being absent am bold toward you:
10:2 Ich bitte aber, daß mir nicht not sei, gegenwärtig dreist zu handeln und der Kühnheit zu brauchen, die man mir zumißt, gegen etliche, die uns schätzen, als wandelten wir fleischlicherweise.
10:2 But I plead to you, that I may not be bold when I am present with that confidence, wherewith I think to be bold against some, which think of us as if we walked according to the flesh.
10:3 Denn ob wir wohl im Fleisch wandeln, so streiten wir doch nicht fleischlicherweise.
10:3 For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh:
10:4 Denn die Waffen unsrer Ritterschaft sind nicht fleischlich, sondern mächtig vor Gott, zu zerstören Befestigungen;
10:4 (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;)
10:5 wir zerstören damit die Anschläge und alle Höhe, die sich erhebt wider die Erkenntnis Gottes, und nehmen gefangen alle Vernunft unter den Gehorsam Christi
10:5 Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;
10:6 und sind bereit, zu rächen allen Ungehorsam, wenn euer Gehorsam erfüllt ist.
10:6 And being alert to revenge all disobedience, when your obedience is fulfilled.
10:7 Richtet ihr nach dem Ansehen? Verläßt sich jemand darauf, daß er Christo angehöre, der denke solches auch wiederum bei sich, daß, gleichwie er Christo angehöre, also auch wir Christo angehören.
10:7 Do all of you look on things after the outward appearance? If any man trust to himself that he is Christ's, let him of himself think this again, that, as he is Christ's, even so are we Christ's.
10:8 Und so ich auch etwas weiter mich rühmte von unsrer Gewalt, welche uns der HERR gegeben hat, euch zu bessern, und nicht zu verderben, wollte ich nicht zu Schanden werden.
10:8 For though I should boast somewhat more of our authority, which the Lord has given us for edification, and not for your destruction, I should not be ashamed:
10:9 Das sage ich aber, daß ihr nicht euch dünken lasset, als hätte ich euch wollen schrecken mit Briefen.
10:9 That I may not seem as if I would terrify you by letters.
10:10 Denn die Briefe, sprechen sie, sind schwer und stark; aber die Gegenwart des Leibes ist schwach und die Rede verächtlich.
10:10 For his letters, say they, are weighty and powerful; but his bodily presence is weak, and his speech (o. logos) contemptible.
10:11 Wer ein solcher ist, der denke, daß, wie wir sind mit Worten in den Briefen abwesend, so werden wir auch wohl sein mit der Tat gegenwärtig.
10:11 Let such an one think this, that, such as we are in word (o. logos) by letters when we are absent, such will we be also in deed when we are present.
10:12 Denn wir wagen uns nicht unter die zu rechnen oder zu zählen, so sich selbst loben, aber dieweil sie an sich selbst messen und halten allein von sich selbst, verstehen sie nichts.
10:12 For we dare not make ourselves of the number, or compare ourselves with some that commend themselves: but they measuring themselves by themselves, and comparing themselves among themselves, are not wise.
10:13 Wir aber rühmen uns nicht über das Ziel hinaus, sondern nur nach dem Ziel der Regel, mit der uns Gott abgemessen hat das Ziel, zu gelangen auch bis zu euch.
10:13 But we will not boast of things without our measure, but according to the measure of the rule which God has distributed to us, a measure to reach even unto you.
10:14 Denn wir fahren nicht zu weit, als wären wir nicht gelangt zu euch; denn wir sind ja auch zu euch gekommen mit dem Evangelium Christi;
10:14 For we stretch not ourselves beyond our measure, as though we reached not unto you: for we are come as far as to you also in preaching the gospel of Christ:
10:15 und rühmen uns nicht übers Ziel hinaus in fremder Arbeit und haben Hoffnung, wenn nun euer Glaube in euch wächst, daß wir in unsrer Regel nach wollen weiterkommen
10:15 Not boasting of things without our measure, that is, of other men's labours; but having hope, when your faith is increased, that we shall be enlarged by you according to our rule abundantly,
10:16 und das Evangelium auch predigen denen, die jenseit von euch wohnen, und uns nicht rühmen in dem, was mit fremder Regel bereitet ist.
10:16 To preach the gospel in the regions beyond you, and not to boast in another man's line of things made ready to our hand.
10:17 Wer sich aber rühmt, der rühme sich des HERRN.
10:17 But he that glories, let him glory in the Lord.
10:18 Denn darum ist einer nicht tüchtig, daß er sich selbst lobt, sondern daß ihn der HERR lobt.
10:18 For not he that commends himself is approved, but whom the Lord commends.

11:1 Wollte Gott, ihr hieltet mir ein wenig Torheit zugut! doch ihr haltet mir's wohl zugut.
11:1 Would to God all of you could bear with me a little in my folly: and indeed bear with me.
11:2 Denn ich eifere um euch mit göttlichem Eifer; denn ich habe euch vertraut einem Manne, daß ich eine reine Jungfrau Christo zubrächte.
11:2 For I am jealous over you with godly jealousy: for I have espoused you to one husband, that I may present you as a chaste virgin to Christ.
11:3 Ich fürchte aber, daß, wie die Schlange Eva verführte mit ihrer Schalkheit, also auch eure Sinne verrückt werden von der Einfalt in Christo.
11:3 But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent misled Eve through his subtlety, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ.
11:4 Denn so, der da zu euch kommt, einen andern Jesus predigte, den wir nicht gepredigt haben, oder ihr einen andern Geist empfinget, den ihr nicht empfangen habt, oder ein ander Evangelium, das ihr nicht angenommen habt, so vertrüget ihr's billig.
11:4 For if he that comes preaches another Jesus, whom we have not preached, or if all of you receive another spirit, (o. pneuma) which all of you have not received, or another gospel, which all of you have not accepted, all of you might well bear with him.
11:5 Denn ich achte, ich sei nicht weniger, als die "hohen" Apostel sind.
11:5 For I suppose I was not a thing behind the very chiefest apostles.
11:6 Und ob ich nicht kundig bin der Rede, so bin ich doch nicht unkundig der Erkenntnis. Doch ich bin bei euch allenthalben wohl bekannt.
11:6 But though I be rude in speech, (o. logos) yet not in knowledge; but we have been thoroughly made manifest among you in all things.
11:7 Oder habe ich gesündigt, daß ich mich erniedrigt habe, auf daß ihr erhöht würdet? Denn ich habe euch das Evangelium Gottes umsonst verkündigt
11:7 Have I committed an offence in abasing myself that all of you might be exalted, because I have preached to you the gospel of God freely?
11:8 und habe andere Gemeinden beraubt und Sold von ihnen genommen, daß ich euch predigte.
11:8 I robbed other churches, taking wages of them, to do you service.
11:9 Und da ich bei euch war gegenwärtig und Mangel hatte, war ich niemand beschwerlich. Denn mein Mangel erstatteten die Brüder, die aus Mazedonien kamen, so habe ich mich in allen Stücken euch unbeschwerlich gehalten und will auch noch mich also halten.
11:9 And when I was present with you, and wanted, I was chargeable to no man: for that which was lacking to me the brethren which came from Macedonia supplied: and in all things I have kept myself from being burdensome unto you, and so will I keep myself.
11:10 So gewiß die Wahrheit Christi in mir ist, so soll mir dieser Ruhm in den Ländern Achajas nicht verstopft werden.
11:10 As the truth of Christ is in me, no man shall stop me of this boasting in the regions of Achaia.
11:11 Warum das? Daß ich euch nicht sollte liebhaben? Gott weiß es.
11:11 Wherefore? because I love you not? God knows.
11:12 Was ich aber tue und tun will, das tue ich darum, daß ich die Ursache abschneide denen, die Ursache suchen, daß sie rühmen möchten, sie seien wie wir.
11:12 But what I do, that I will do, that I may cut off occasion from them which desire occasion; that wherein they glory, they may be found even as we.
11:13 Denn solche falsche Apostel und trügliche Arbeiter verstellen sich zu Christi Aposteln.
11:13 For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ.
11:14 Und das ist auch kein Wunder; denn er selbst, der Satan, verstellt sich zum Engel des Lichtes.
11:14 And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light.
11:15 Darum ist es auch nicht ein Großes, wenn sich seine Diener verstellen als Prediger der Gerechtigkeit; welcher Ende sein wird nach ihren Werken.
11:15 Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works.
11:16 Ich sage abermals, daß nicht jemand wähne, ich sei töricht; wo aber nicht, so nehmet mich als einen Törichten, daß ich mich auch ein wenig rühme.
11:16 I say again, Let no man think me a fool; if otherwise, yet as a fool receive me, that I may boast myself a little.
11:17 Was ich jetzt rede, das rede ich nicht als im HERRN, sondern als in der Torheit, dieweil wir in das Rühmen gekommen sind.
11:17 That which I speak, I speak it not after the Lord, but as it were foolishly, in this confidence of boasting.
11:18 Sintemal viele sich rühmen nach dem Fleisch, will ich mich auch rühmen.
11:18 Seeing that many glory after the flesh, I will glory also.
11:19 Denn ihr vertraget gern die Narren, dieweil ihr klug seid.
11:19 For all of you suffer fools gladly, seeing all of you yourselves are wise.
11:20 Ihr vertraget, so euch jemand zu Knechten macht, so euch jemand schindet, so euch jemand gefangennimmt, so jemand euch trotzt, so euch jemand ins Angesicht streicht.
11:20 For all of you suffer, if a man bring you into bondage, if a man devour you, if a man take of you, if a man exalt himself, if a man strike you on the face.
11:21 Das sage ich nach der Unehre, als wären wir schwach geworden. Worauf aber jemand kühn ist (ich rede in Torheit!), darauf bin ich auch kühn.
11:21 I speak as concerning reproach, as though we had been weak. Nevertheless whatever that anyone is bold, (I speak foolishly,) I am bold also.
11:22 Sie sind Hebräer? Ich auch! Sie sind Israeliter? Ich auch! Sie sind Abrahams Same? Ich auch!
11:22 Are they Hebrews? so am I. Are they Israelites? so am I. Are they the seed of Abraham? so am I.
11:23 Sie sind Diener Christi? Ich rede töricht: Ich bin's wohl mehr: Ich habe mehr gearbeitet, ich habe mehr Schläge erlitten, bin öfter gefangen, oft in Todesnöten gewesen;
11:23 Are they ministers of Christ? (I speak as a fool) I am more; in labours more abundant, in stripes above measure, in prisons more frequent, in deaths often.
11:24 von den Juden habe ich fünfmal empfangen vierzig Streiche weniger eins;
11:24 Of the Jews five times received I forty stripes save one.
11:25 ich bin dreimal gestäupt, einmal gesteinigt, dreimal Schiffbruch erlitten, Tag und Nacht habe ich zugebracht in der Tiefe des Meers;
11:25 Three times was I beaten with rods, once was I stoned, three times I suffered shipwreck, a night and a day I have been in the deep;
11:26 ich bin oft gereist, ich bin in Gefahr gewesen durch die Flüsse, in Gefahr durch die Mörder, in Gefahr unter den Juden, in Gefahr unter den Heiden, in Gefahr in den Städten, in Gefahr in der Wüste, in Gefahr auf dem Meer, in Gefahr unter den falschen Brüdern;
11:26 In journeys often, in perils of waters, in perils of robbers, in perils by mine own countrymen, in perils by the heathen, in perils in the city, in perils in the wilderness, in perils in the sea, in perils among false brethren;
11:27 in Mühe und Arbeit, in viel Wachen, in Hunger und Durst, in viel Fasten, in Frost und Blöße;
11:27 In weariness and painfulness, in watchings often, in hunger and thirst, in fastings often, in cold and nakedness.
11:28 außer was sich sonst zuträgt, nämlich, daß ich täglich werde angelaufen und trage Sorge für alle Gemeinden.
11:28 Beside those things that are without, that which comes upon me daily, the care of all the churches.
11:29 Wer ist schwach, und ich werde nicht schwach? Wer wird geärgert, und ich brenne nicht?
11:29 Who is weak, and I am not weak? who is offended, and I burn not?
11:30 So ich mich ja rühmen soll, will ich mich meiner Schwachheit rühmen.
11:30 If I must essentially glory, I will glory of the things which concern mine infirmities.
11:31 Gott und der Vater unsers HERRN Jesu Christi, welcher sei gelobt in Ewigkeit, weiß, daß ich nicht lüge.
11:31 The God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which is blessed for evermore, knows that I lie not.
11:32 Zu Damaskus verwahrte der Landpfleger des Königs Aretas die Stadt der Damasker und wollte mich greifen,
11:32 In Damascus the governor under Aretas the king kept the city of the Damascenes with a garrison, desirous to apprehend me:
11:33 und ich ward in einem Korbe zum Fenster hinaus durch die Mauer niedergelassen und entrann aus seinen Händen.
11:33 And through a window in a basket was I let down by the wall, and escaped his hands.

12:1 Es ist mir ja das Rühmen nichts nütze; doch will ich kommen auf die Gesichte und Offenbarung des HERRN.
12:1 It is not expedient for me doubtless to glory. I will come to visions and revelations of the Lord.
12:2 Ich kenne einen Menschen in Christo; vor vierzehn Jahren (ist er in dem Leibe gewesen, so weiß ich's nicht; oder ist er außer dem Leibe gewesen, so weiß ich's nicht; Gott weiß es) ward derselbe entzückt bis in den dritten Himmel.
12:2 I knew a man in Christ above fourteen years ago, (whether in the body, I cannot tell; or whether out of the body, I cannot tell: God knows;) such an one caught up to the third heaven.
12:3 Und ich kenne denselben Menschen (ob er im Leibe oder außer dem Leibe gewesen ist, weiß ich nicht; Gott weiß es);
12:3 And I knew such a man, (whether in the body, or out of the body, I cannot tell: God knows;)
12:4 der ward entzückt in das Paradies und hörte unaussprechliche Worte, welche kein Mensch sagen kann.
12:4 How that he was caught up into paradise, and heard unspeakable words, (o. rhema) which it is not lawful for a man to utter.
12:5 Für denselben will ich mich rühmen; für mich selbst aber will ich mich nichts rühmen, nur meiner Schwachheit.
12:5 Of such an one will I glory: yet of myself I will not glory, but in mine infirmities.
12:6 Und so ich mich rühmen wollte, täte ich daran nicht töricht; denn ich wollte die Wahrheit sagen. Ich enthalte mich aber dessen, auf daß nicht jemand mich höher achte, als er an mir sieht oder von mir hört.
12:6 For though I would desire to glory, I shall not be a fool; for I will say the truth: but now I forbear, lest any man should think of me above that which he sees me to be, or that he hears of me.
12:7 Und auf daß ich mich nicht der hohen Offenbarung überhebe, ist mir gegeben ein Pfahl ins Fleisch, nämlich des Satans Engel, der mich mit Fäusten schlage, auf daß ich mich nicht überhebe.
12:7 And lest I should be exalted above measure through the abundance of the revelations, there was given to me a thorn in the flesh, the messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I should be exalted above measure.
12:8 Dafür ich dreimal zum HERRN gefleht habe, daß er von mir wiche.
12:8 For this thing I besought the Lord three times, that it might depart from me.
12:9 Und er hat zu mir gesagt: Laß dir an meiner Gnade genügen; denn meine Kraft ist in den Schwachen mächtig. Darum will ich mich am allerliebsten rühmen meiner Schwachheit, auf daß die Kraft Christi bei mir wohne.
12:9 And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for you: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.
12:10 Darum bin ich gutes Muts in Schwachheiten, in Mißhandlungen, in Nöten, in Verfolgungen, in Ängsten, um Christi willen; denn, wenn ich schwach bin, so bin ich stark.
12:10 Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ's sake: for when I am weak, then am I strong.
12:11 Ich bin ein Narr geworden über dem Rühmen; dazu habt ihr mich gezwungen. Denn ich sollte von euch gelobt werden, sintemal ich nichts weniger bin, als die "hohen" Apostel sind, wiewohl ich nichts bin.
12:11 I am become a fool in glorying; all of you have compelled me: for I ought to have been commended of you: for in nothing am I behind the very chiefest apostles, though I be nothing.
12:12 Denn es sind ja eines Apostels Zeichen unter euch geschehen mit aller Geduld, mit Zeichen und mit Wundern und mit Taten.
12:12 Truly the signs of an apostle were wrought among you in all patience, in signs, and wonders, and mighty deeds.
12:13 Was ist's, darin ihr geringer seid denn die andern Gemeinden, außer daß ich selbst euch nicht habe beschwert? Vergebet mir diese Sünde!
12:13 For what is it wherein all of you were inferior to other churches, except it be that I myself was not burdensome to you? forgive me this wrong.
12:14 Siehe, ich bin bereit zum drittenmal zu euch zu kommen, und will euch nicht beschweren; denn ich suche nicht das Eure, sondern euch. Denn es sollen nicht die Kinder den Eltern Schätze sammeln, sondern die Eltern den Kindern.
12:14 Behold, the third time I am ready to come to you; and I will not be burdensome to you: for I seek not your's but you: for the children ought not to lay up for the parents, but the parents for the children.
12:15 Ich aber will sehr gern hingeben und hingegeben werden für eure Seelen; wiewohl ich euch gar sehr liebe, und doch weniger geliebt werde.
12:15 And I will very gladly spend and be spent for you; though the more abundantly I love you, the less I be loved.
12:16 Aber laß es also sein, daß ich euch nicht habe beschwert; sondern, die weil ich tückisch bin, habe ich euch mit Hinterlist gefangen.
12:16 But be it so, I did not burden you: nevertheless, being crafty, I caught you with guile.
12:17 Habe ich aber etwa jemand übervorteilt durch derer einen, die ich zu euch gesandt habe?
12:17 Did I make a gain of you by any of them whom I sent unto you?
12:18 Ich habe Titus ermahnt und mit ihm gesandt einen Bruder. Hat euch etwa Titus übervorteilt? Haben wir nicht in einem Geist gewandelt? Sind wir nicht in einerlei Fußtapfen gegangen?
12:18 I desired Titus, and with him I sent a brother. Did Titus make a gain of you? walked we not in the same spirit? (o. pneuma) walked we not in the same steps?
12:19 Lasset ihr euch abermals dünken, wir verantworten uns vor euch? Wir reden in Christo vor Gott; aber das alles geschieht, meine Liebsten, euch zur Besserung.
12:19 Again, think all of you that we excuse ourselves unto you? we speak before God in Christ: but we do all things, dearly beloved, for your edifying.
12:20 Denn ich fürchte, wenn ich komme, daß ich euch nicht finde, wie ich will, und ihr mich auch nicht findet, wie ihr wollt; daß Hader, Neid, Zorn, Zank, Afterreden, Ohrenblasen, Aufblähen, Aufruhr dasei;
12:20 For I fear, lest, when I come, I shall not find you such as I would, and that I shall be found unto you such as all of you would not: lest there be debates, envyings, wraths, strifes, backbitings, whisperings, swellings, tumults:
12:21 daß mich, wenn ich abermals komme, mein Gott demütige bei euch und ich müsse Leid tragen über viele, die zuvor gesündigt und nicht Buße getan haben für die Unreinigkeit und Hurerei und Unzucht, die sie getrieben haben.
12:21 And lest, when I come again, my God will humble me among you, and that I shall mourn for many which have sinned already, and have not repented of the uncleanness and fornication and lasciviousness which they have committed.

13:1 Komme ich zum drittenmal zu euch, so soll in zweier oder dreier Zeugen Mund bestehen allerlei Sache.
13:1 This is the third time I am coming to you. In the mouth of two or three witnesses shall every word (o. rhema) be established.
13:2 Ich habe es euch zuvor gesagt und sage es euch zuvor, wie, als ich zum andernmal gegenwärtig war, so auch nun abwesend schreibe ich es denen, die zuvor gesündigt haben, und den andern allen: Wenn ich abermals komme, so will ich nicht schonen;
13:2 I told you before, and foretell you, as if I were present, the second time; and being absent now I write to them which in time past have sinned, and to all other, that, if I come again, I will not spare:
13:3 sintemal ihr suchet, daß ihr einmal gewahr werdet des, der in mir redet, nämlich Christi, welcher unter euch nicht schwach ist, sondern ist mächtig unter euch.
13:3 Since all of you seek a proof of Christ speaking in me, which toward you is not weak, but is mighty in you.
13:4 Und ob er wohl gekreuzigt ist in der Schwachheit, so lebt er doch in der Kraft Gottes. Und ob wir auch schwach sind in ihm, so leben wir doch mit ihm in der Kraft Gottes unter euch.
13:4 For though he was crucified through weakness, yet he lives by the power of God. For we also are weak in him, but we shall live with him by the power of God toward you.
13:5 Versuchet euch selbst, ob ihr im Glauben seid; prüfet euch selbst! Oder erkennet ihr euch selbst nicht, daß Jesus Christus in euch ist? Es sei denn, daß ihr untüchtig seid.
13:5 Examine yourselves, whether all of you be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know all of you not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except all of you be reprobates?
13:6 Ich hoffe aber, ihr erkennet, daß wir nicht untüchtig sind.
13:6 But I trust that all of you shall know that we are not reprobates.
13:7 Ich bitte aber Gott, daß ihr nichts Übles tut; nicht, auf daß wir als tüchtig angesehen werden, sondern auf daß ihr das Gute tut und wir wie die Untüchtigen seien.
13:7 Now I pray to God that all of you do no evil; not that we should appear approved, but that all of you should do that which is honest, though we be as reprobates.
13:8 Denn wir können nichts wider die Wahrheit, sondern für die Wahrheit.
13:8 For we can do nothing against the truth, but for the truth.
13:9 Wir freuen uns aber, wenn wir schwach sind, und ihr mächtig seid. Und dasselbe wünschen wir auch, nämlich eure Vollkommenheit.
13:9 For we are glad, when we are weak, and all of you are strong: and this also we wish, even your perfection.
13:10 Derhalben schreibe ich auch solches abwesend, auf daß ich nicht, wenn ich gegenwärtig bin, Schärfe brauchen müsse nach der Macht, welche mir der HERR, zu bessern und nicht zu verderben, gegeben hat.
13:10 Therefore I write these things being absent, lest being present I should use sharpness, according to the power which the Lord has given me to edification, and not to destruction.
13:11 Zuletzt, liebe Brüder, freuet euch, seid vollkommen, tröstet euch, habt einerlei Sinn, seid friedsam! so wird der Gott der Liebe und des Friedens mit euch sein.
13:11 Finally, brethren, farewell. Be perfect, be of good comfort, be of one mind, live in peace; and the God of love (o. agape) and peace shall be with you.
13:12 Grüßet euch untereinander mit dem heiligen Kuß.
13:12 Greet one another with an holy kiss.
13:13 - Es grüßen euch alle Heiligen.
13:13 All the saints salute you.
13:14 - Die Gnade unsers HERRN Jesu Christi und die Liebe Gottes und die Gemeinschaft des heiligen Geistes sei mit euch allen! Amen. {~}
