1:1 Das da von Anfang war, das wir gehört haben, das wir gesehen haben mit unsern Augen, das wir beschaut haben und unsre Hände betastet haben, vom Wort des Lebens
1:1 That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, of the Word (o. logos) of life;
1:2 und das Leben ist erschienen, und wir haben gesehen und bezeugen und verkündigen euch das Leben, das ewig ist, welches war bei dem Vater und ist uns erschienen:
1:2 (For the life was manifested, and we have seen it, and bear witness, and show unto you that eternal life, which was with the Father, and was manifested unto us;)
1:3 was wir gesehen und gehört haben, das verkündigen wir euch, auf daß ihr mit uns Gemeinschaft habt; und unsre Gemeinschaft ist mit dem Vater und mit seinem Sohn Jesus Christus.
1:3 That which we have seen and heard declare we unto you, that all of you also may have fellowship with us: and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ.
1:4 Und solches schreiben wir euch, auf daß eure Freude völlig sei.
1:4 And these things write we unto you, that your joy may be full.
1:5 Und das ist die Verkündigung, die wir von ihm gehört haben und euch verkündigen, daß Gott Licht ist und in ihm ist keine Finsternis.
1:5 This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.
1:6 So wir sagen, daß wir Gemeinschaft mit ihm haben, und wandeln in der Finsternis, so lügen wir und tun nicht die Wahrheit.
1:6 If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth:
1:7 So wir aber im Licht wandeln, wie er im Licht ist, so haben wir Gemeinschaft untereinander, und das Blut Jesu Christi, seines Sohnes, macht uns rein von aller Sünde.
1:7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanses us from all sin.
1:8 So wir sagen, wir haben keine Sünde, so verführen wir uns selbst, und die Wahrheit ist nicht in uns.
1:8 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.
1:9 So wir aber unsre Sünden bekennen, so ist er treu und gerecht, daß er uns die Sünden vergibt und reinigt uns von aller Untugend.
1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
1:10 So wir sagen, wir haben nicht gesündigt, so machen wir ihn zum Lügner, und sein Wort ist nicht in uns.
1:10 If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word (o. logos) is not in us.

2:1 Meine Kindlein, solches schreibe ich euch, auf daß ihr nicht sündiget. Und ob jemand sündigt, so haben wir einen Fürsprecher bei dem Vater, Jesum Christum, der gerecht ist.
2:1 My little children, these things write I unto you, that all of you sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous:
2:2 Und derselbe ist die Versöhnung für unsre Sünden, nicht allein aber für die unseren sondern auch für die der ganzen Welt.
2:2 And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for our's only, but also for the sins of the whole world.
2:3 Und an dem merken wir, daß wir ihn kennen, so wir seine Gebote halten.
2:3 And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments.
2:4 Wer da sagt: Ich kenne ihn, und hält seine Gebote nicht, der ist ein Lügner, und in solchem ist keine Wahrheit.
2:4 He that says, I know him, and keeps not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.
2:5 Wer aber sein Wort hält, in solchem ist wahrlich die Liebe Gottes vollkommen. Daran erkennen wir, daß wir in ihm sind.
2:5 But whoso keeps his word, (o. logos) in him verily is the love (o. agape) of God perfected: hereby know we that we are in him.
2:6 Wer da sagt, daß er in ihm bleibt, der soll auch wandeln, gleichwie er gewandelt hat.
2:6 He that says he abides in him ought himself also so to walk, even as he walked.
2:7 Brüder, ich schreibe euch nicht ein neues Gebot, sondern das alte Gebot, das ihr habt von Anfang gehabt. Das alte Gebot ist das Wort, das ihr von Anfang gehört habt.
2:7 Brethren, I write no new commandment unto you, but an old commandment which all of you had from the beginning. The old commandment is the word (o. logos) which all of you have heard from the beginning.
2:8 Wiederum ein neues Gebot schreibe ich euch, das da wahrhaftig ist bei ihm und bei euch; denn die Finsternis vergeht, und das wahre Licht scheint jetzt.
2:8 Again, a new commandment I write unto you, which thing is true in him and in you: because the darkness is past, and the true light now shines.
2:9 Wer da sagt, er sei im Licht, und haßt seinen Bruder, der ist noch in der Finsternis.
2:9 He that says he is in the light, and hates his brother, is in darkness even until now.
2:10 Wer seinen Bruder liebt, der bleibt im Licht, und ist kein Ärgernis bei ihm.
2:10 He that loves his brother abides in the light, and there is none occasion of stumbling in him.
2:11 Wer aber seinen Bruder haßt, der ist in der Finsternis und wandelt in der Finsternis und weiß nicht, wo er hin geht; denn die Finsternis hat seine Augen verblendet.
2:11 But he that hates his brother is in darkness, and walks in darkness, and knows not where he goes, because that darkness has blinded his eyes.
2:12 Liebe Kindlein, ich schreibe euch; denn die Sünden sind euch vergeben durch seinen Namen.
2:12 I write unto you, little children, because your sins are forgiven you for his name's sake.
2:13 Ich schreibe euch Vätern; denn ihr kennt den, der von Anfang ist. Ich schreibe euch Jünglingen; denn ihr habt den Bösewicht überwunden.
2:13 I write unto you, fathers, because all of you have known him that is from the beginning. I write unto you, young men, because all of you have overcome the wicked one. I write unto you, little children, because all of you have known the Father.
2:14 Ich habe euch Kindern geschrieben; denn ihr kennet den Vater. Ich habe euch Vätern geschrieben; denn ihr kennt den, der von Anfang ist. Ich habe euch Jünglingen geschrieben; denn ihr seid stark, und das Wort Gottes bleibt bei euch, und ihr habt den Bösewicht überwunden.
2:14 I have written unto you, fathers, because all of you have known him that is from the beginning. I have written unto you, young men, because all of you are strong, and the word (o. logos) of God abides in you, and all of you have overcome the wicked one.
2:15 Habt nicht lieb die Welt noch was in der Welt ist. So jemand die Welt liebhat, in dem ist nicht die Liebe des Vaters.
2:15 Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love (o. agape) of the Father is not in him.
2:16 Denn alles, was in der Welt ist: des Fleisches Lust und der Augen Lust und hoffärtiges Leben, ist nicht vom Vater, sondern von der Welt.
2:16 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.
2:17 Und die Welt vergeht mit ihrer Lust; wer aber den Willen Gottes tut, der bleibt in Ewigkeit.
2:17 And the world passes away, and the lust thereof: but he that does the will of God abides for ever.
2:18 Kinder, es ist die letzte Stunde! Und wie ihr gehört habt, daß der Widerchrist kommt, so sind nun viele Widerchristen geworden; daher erkennen wir, daß die letzte Stunde ist.
2:18 Little children, it is the last time: and as all of you have heard that antichrist shall come, even now are there many antichrists; whereby we know that it is the last time.
2:19 Sie sind von uns ausgegangen, aber sie waren nicht von uns. Denn wo sie von uns gewesen wären, so wären sie ja bei uns geblieben; aber es sollte offenbar werden, daß nicht alle von uns sind.
2:19 They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would no doubt have continued with us: but they went out, that they might be made manifest that they were not all of us.
2:20 Und ihr habt die Salbung von dem, der heilig ist, und wisset alles.
2:20 But all of you have an anointing from the Holy One, and all of you know all things.
2:21 Ich habe euch nicht geschrieben, als wüßtet ihr die Wahrheit nicht; sondern ihr wisset sie und wisset, daß keine Lüge aus der Wahrheit kommt.
2:21 I have not written unto you because all of you know not the truth, but because all of you know it, and that no lie is of the truth.
2:22 Wer ist ein Lügner, wenn nicht, der da leugnet, daß Jesus der Christus sei? Das ist der Widerchrist, der den Vater und den Sohn leugnet.
2:22 Who is a liar but he that denies that Jesus is the Christ? He is antichrist, that denies the Father and the Son.
2:23 Wer den Sohn leugnet, der hat auch den Vater nicht; wer den Sohn bekennt, der hat auch den Vater.
2:23 Whosoever denies the Son, the same has not the Father: he that acknowledges the Son has the Father also.
2:24 Was ihr nun gehört habt von Anfang, das bleibe bei euch. So bei euch bleibt, was ihr von Anfang gehört habt, so werdet ihr auch bei dem Sohn und dem Vater bleiben.
2:24 Let that therefore abide in you, which all of you have heard from the beginning. If that which all of you have heard from the beginning shall remain in you, all of you also shall continue in the Son, and in the Father.
2:25 Und das ist die Verheißung, die er uns verheißen hat: das ewige Leben.
2:25 And this is the promise that he has promised us, even eternal life.
2:26 Solches habe ich euch geschrieben von denen, die euch verführen.
2:26 These things have I written unto you concerning them that seduce you.
2:27 Und die Salbung, die ihr von ihm empfangen habt, bleibt bei euch, und ihr bedürfet nicht, daß euch jemand lehre; sondern wie euch die Salbung alles lehrt, so ist's wahr und ist keine Lüge, und wie sie euch gelehrt hat, so bleibet bei ihm.
2:27 But the anointing which all of you have received of him abides in you, and all of you need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teaches you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it has taught you, all of you shall abide in him.
2:28 Und nun, Kindlein, bleibet bei ihm, auf daß, wenn er offenbart wird, wir Freudigkeit haben und nicht zu Schanden werden vor ihm bei seiner Zukunft.
2:28 And now, little children, abide in him; that, when he shall appear, we may have confidence, and not be ashamed before him at his coming.
2:29 So ihr wisset, daß er gerecht ist, so erkennet ihr auch, daß, wer recht tut, der ist von ihm geboren.
2:29 If all of you know that he is righteous, all of you know that every one that does righteousness is born of him.

3:1 Sehet, welch eine Liebe hat uns der Vater erzeigt, daß wir Gottes Kinder sollen heißen! Darum kennt euch die Welt nicht; denn sie kennt ihn nicht.
3:1 Behold, what manner of love (o. agape) the Father has bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knows us not, because it knew him not.
3:2 Meine Lieben, wir sind nun Gottes Kinder; und es ist noch nicht erschienen, was wir sein werden. Wir wissen aber, wenn es erscheinen wird, daß wir ihm gleich sein werden; denn wir werden ihn sehen, wie er ist.
3:2 Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it does not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.
3:3 Und ein jeglicher, der solche Hoffnung hat zu ihm, der reinigt sich, gleichwie er auch rein ist.
3:3 And every man that has this hope in him purifies himself, even as he is pure.
3:4 Wer Sünde tut, der tut auch Unrecht, und die Sünde ist das Unrecht.
3:4 Whosoever commits sin trangresses also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law.
3:5 Und ihr wisset, daß er ist erschienen, auf daß er unsre Sünden wegnehme, und es ist keine Sünde in ihm.
3:5 And all of you know that he was manifested to take away our sins; and in him is no sin.
3:6 Wer in ihm bleibt, der sündigt nicht; wer da sündigt, der hat ihn nicht gesehen noch erkannt.
3:6 Whosoever abides in him sins not: whosoever sins has not seen him, neither known him.
3:7 Kindlein, laßt euch niemand verführen! Wer recht tut, der ist gerecht, gleichwie er gerecht ist.
3:7 Little children, let no man deceive you: he that does righteousness is righteous, even as he is righteous.
3:8 Wer Sünde tut, der ist vom Teufel; denn der Teufel sündigt von Anfang. Dazu ist erschienen der Sohn Gottes, daß er die Werke des Teufels zerstöre.
3:8 He that commits sin is of the devil; for the devil sins from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.
3:9 Wer aus Gott geboren ist, der tut nicht Sünde, denn sein Same bleibt bei ihm; und kann nicht sündigen, denn er ist von Gott geboren.
3:9 Whosoever is born of God does not commit sin; for his seed remains in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God.
3:10 Daran wird's offenbar, welche die Kinder Gottes und die Kinder des Teufels sind. Wer nicht recht tut, der ist nicht von Gott, und wer nicht seinen Bruder liebhat.
3:10 In this the children of God are manifest, and the children of the devil: whosoever does not righteousness is not of God, neither he that loves not his brother.
3:11 Denn das ist die Botschaft, die ihr gehört habt von Anfang, daß wir uns untereinander lieben sollen.
3:11 For this is the message that all of you heard from the beginning, that we should love one another.
3:12 Nicht wie Kain, der von dem Argen war und erwürgte seinen Bruder. Und warum erwürgte er ihn? Weil seine Werke böse waren, und die seines Bruders gerecht.
3:12 Not as Cain, who was of that wicked one, and slew his brother. And wherefore slew he him? Because his own works were evil, and his brother's righteous.
3:13 Verwundert euch nicht, meine Brüder, wenn euch die Welt haßt.
3:13 Marvel not, my brethren, if the world hate you.
3:14 Wir wissen, daß wir aus dem Tode in das Leben gekommen sind; denn wir lieben die Brüder. Wer den Bruder nicht liebt, der bleibt im Tode.
3:14 We know that we have passed from death unto life, because we love the brethren. He that loves not his brother abides in death.
3:15 Wer seinen Bruder haßt, der ist ein Totschläger; und ihr wisset, daß ein Totschläger hat nicht das ewige Leben bei ihm bleibend.
3:15 Whosoever hates his brother is a murderer: and all of you know that no murderer has eternal life abiding in him.
3:16 Daran haben wir erkannt die Liebe, daß er sein Leben für uns gelassen hat; und wir sollen auch das Leben für die Brüder lassen.
3:16 Hereby perceive we the love (o. agape) of God, because he laid down his life for us: and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren.
3:17 Wenn aber jemand dieser Welt Güter hat und sieht seinen Bruder darben und schließt sein Herz vor ihm zu, wie bleibt die Liebe Gottes bei ihm?
3:17 But whoso has this world's good, and sees his brother have need, and shuts up his bowels of compassion from him, how dwells the love (o. agape) of God in him?
3:18 Meine Kindlein, laßt uns nicht lieben mit Worten noch mit der Zunge, sondern mit der Tat und mit der Wahrheit.
3:18 My little children, let us not love in word, (o. logos) neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth.
3:19 Daran erkennen wir, daß wir aus der Wahrheit sind, und können unser Herz vor ihm damit stillen,
3:19 And hereby we know that we are of the truth, and shall assure our hearts before him.
3:20 daß, so uns unser Herz verdammt, Gott größer ist denn unser Herz und erkennt alle Dinge.
3:20 For if our heart condemn us, God is greater than our heart, and knows all things.
3:21 Ihr Lieben, so uns unser Herz nicht verdammt, so haben wir eine Freudigkeit zu Gott,
3:21 Beloved, if our heart condemn us not, then have we confidence toward God.
3:22 und was wir bitten, werden wir von ihm nehmen; denn wir halten seine Gebote und tun, was vor ihm gefällig ist.
3:22 And whatsoever we ask, we receive of him, because we keep his commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in his sight.
3:23 Und das ist sein Gebot, daß wir glauben an den Namen seines Sohnes Jesu Christi und lieben uns untereinander, wie er uns ein Gebot gegeben hat.
3:23 And this is his commandment, That we should believe on the name of his Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, as he gave us commandment.
3:24 Und wer seine Gebote hält, der bleibt in ihm und er in ihm. Und daran erkennen wir, daß er in uns bleibt, an dem Geist, den er uns gegeben hat.
3:24 And he that keeps his commandments dwells in him, and he in him. And hereby we know that he abides in us, by the Spirit (o. pneuma) which he has given us.

4:1 Ihr Lieben, glaubet nicht einem jeglichen Geist, sondern prüfet die Geister, ob sie von Gott sind; denn es sind viel falsche Propheten ausgegangen in die Welt.
4:1 Beloved, believe not every spirit, (o. pneuma) but try the spirits (o. pneuma) whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.
4:2 Daran sollt ihr den Geist Gottes erkennen: ein jeglicher Geist, der da bekennt, daß Jesus Christus ist in das Fleisch gekommen, der ist von Gott;
4:2 Hereby know all of you the Spirit (o. pneuma) of God: Every spirit (o. pneuma) that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is of God:
4:3 und ein jeglicher Geist, der da nicht bekennt, daß Jesus Christus ist in das Fleisch gekommen, der ist nicht von Gott. Und das ist der Geist des Widerchrists, von welchem ihr habt gehört, daß er kommen werde, und er ist jetzt schon in der Welt.
4:3 And every spirit (o. pneuma) that confesses not that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof all of you have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world.
4:4 Kindlein, ihr seid von Gott und habt jene überwunden; denn der in euch ist, ist größer, als der in der Welt ist.
4:4 All of you are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.
4:5 Sie sind von der Welt; darum reden sie von der Welt, und die Welt hört sie.
4:5 They are of the world: therefore speak they of the world, and the world hears them.
4:6 Wir sind von Gott, und wer Gott erkennt, der hört uns; welcher nicht von Gott ist, der hört uns nicht. Daran erkennen wir den Geist der Wahrheit und den Geist des Irrtums.
4:6 We are of God: he that knows God hears us; he that is not of God hears not us. Hereby know we the spirit (o. pneuma) of truth, and the spirit (o. pneuma) of error.
4:7 Ihr Lieben, lasset uns untereinander liebhaben; denn die Liebe ist von Gott, und wer liebhat, der ist von Gott geboren und kennt Gott.
4:7 Beloved, let us love one another: for love (o. agape) is of God; and every one that loves is born of God, and knows God.
4:8 Wer nicht liebhat, der kennt Gott nicht; denn Gott ist Liebe.
4:8 He that loves not knows not God; for God is love. (o. agape)
4:9 Daran ist erschienen die Liebe Gottes gegen uns, daß Gott seinen eingeborenen Sohn gesandt hat in die Welt, daß wir durch ihn leben sollen.
4:9 In this was manifested the love (o. agape) of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him.
4:10 Darin steht die Liebe: nicht, daß wir Gott geliebt haben, sondern daß er uns geliebt hat und gesandt seinen Sohn zur Versöhnung für unsre Sünden.
4:10 Herein is love, (o. agape) not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.
4:11 Ihr Lieben, hat uns Gott also geliebt, so sollen wir uns auch untereinander lieben.
4:11 Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another.
4:12 Niemand hat Gott jemals gesehen. So wir uns untereinander lieben, so bleibt Gott in uns, und seine Liebe ist völlig in uns.
4:12 No man has seen God at any time. If we love one another, God dwells in us, and his love (o. agape) is perfected in us.
4:13 Daran erkennen wir, daß wir in ihm bleiben und er in uns, daß er uns von seinem Geiste gegeben hat.
4:13 Hereby know we that we dwell in him, and he in us, because he has given us of his Spirit. (o. pneuma)
4:14 Und wir haben gesehen und zeugen, daß der Vater den Sohn gesandt hat zum Heiland der Welt.
4:14 And we have seen and do testify that the Father sent the Son to be the Saviour of the world.
4:15 Welcher nun bekennt, daß Jesus Gottes Sohn ist, in dem bleibt Gott und er in Gott.
4:15 Whosoever shall confess that Jesus is the Son of God, God dwells in him, and he in God.
4:16 Und wir haben erkannt und geglaubt die Liebe, die Gott zu uns hat. Gott ist die Liebe; und wer in der Liebe bleibt, der bleibt in Gott und Gott in ihm.
4:16 And we have known and believed the love (o. agape) that God has to us. God is love; (o. agape) and he that dwells in love (o. agape) dwells in God, and God in him.
4:17 Darin ist die Liebe völlig bei uns, daß wir eine Freudigkeit haben am Tage des Gerichts; denn gleichwie er ist, so sind auch wir in dieser Welt.
4:17 Herein is our love (o. agape) made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment: because as he is, so are we in this world.
4:18 Furcht ist nicht in der Liebe, sondern die völlige Liebe treibt die Furcht aus; denn die Furcht hat Pein. Wer sich aber fürchtet, der ist nicht völlig in der Liebe.
4:18 There is no fear in love; (o. agape) but perfect love (o. agape) casts out fear: because fear has torment. He that fears is not made perfect in love. (o. agape)
4:19 Lasset uns ihn lieben; denn er hat uns zuerst geliebt.
4:19 We love him, because he first loved us.
4:20 So jemand spricht: "Ich liebe Gott", und haßt seinen Bruder, der ist ein Lügner. Denn wer seinen Bruder nicht liebt, den er sieht, wie kann er Gott lieben, den er nicht sieht?
4:20 If a man say, I love God, and hates his brother, he is a liar: for he that loves not his brother whom he has seen, how can he love God whom he has not seen?
4:21 Und dies Gebot haben wir von ihm, daß, wer Gott liebt, daß der auch seinen Bruder liebe.
4:21 And this commandment have we from him, That he who loves God love his brother also.

5:1 Wer da glaubt, daß Jesus sei der Christus, der ist von Gott geboren; und wer da liebt den, der ihn geboren hat, der liebt auch den, der von ihm geboren ist.
5:1 Whosoever believes that Jesus is the Christ is born of God: and every one that loves him that brings forth loves him also that is begotten of him.
5:2 Daran erkennen wir, daß wir Gottes Kinder lieben, wenn wir Gott lieben und seine Gebote halten.
5:2 By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God, and keep his commandments.
5:3 Denn das ist die Liebe zu Gott, daß wir seine Gebote halten; und seine Gebote sind nicht schwer.
5:3 For this is the love (o. agape) of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous.
5:4 Denn alles, was von Gott geboren ist, überwindet die Welt; und unser Glaube ist der Sieg, der die Welt überwunden hat.
5:4 For whatsoever is born of God overcomes the world: and this is the victory that overcomes the world, even our faith.
5:5 Wer ist aber, der die Welt überwindet, wenn nicht, der da glaubt, daß Jesus Gottes Sohn ist?
5:5 Who is he that overcomes the world, but he that believes that Jesus is the Son of God?
5:6 Dieser ist's, der da kommt mit Wasser und Blut, Jesus Christus; nicht mit Wasser allein, sondern mit Wasser und Blut. Und der Geist ist's, der da zeugt; denn der Geist ist die Wahrheit.
5:6 This is he that came by water and blood, even Jesus Christ; not by water only, but by water and blood. And it is the Spirit (o. pneuma) that bears witness, because the Spirit (o. pneuma) is truth.
5:7 Denn drei sind, die da zeugen: der Geist und das Wasser und das Blut;
5:7 For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, (o. logos) and the Holy Spirit: (o. pneuma) and these three are one.
5:8 und die drei sind beisammen.
5:8 And there are three that bear witness in earth, the Spirit, (o. pneuma) and the water, and the blood: and these three agree in one.
5:9 So wir der Menschen Zeugnis annehmen, so ist Gottes Zeugnis größer; denn Gottes Zeugnis ist das, das er gezeugt hat von seinem Sohn.
5:9 If we receive the witness of men, the witness of God is greater: for this is the witness of God which he has testified of his Son.
5:10 Wer da glaubt an den Sohn Gottes, der hat solches Zeugnis bei sich. Wer Gott nicht glaubt, der macht ihn zum Lügner; denn er glaubt nicht dem Zeugnis, das Gott zeugt von seinem Sohn.
5:10 He that believes on the Son of God has the witness in himself: he that believes not God has made him a liar; because he believes not the record that God gave of his Son.
5:11 Und das ist das Zeugnis, daß uns Gott das ewige Leben hat gegeben; und solches Leben ist in seinem Sohn.
5:11 And this is the record, that God has given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.
5:12 Wer den Sohn Gottes hat, der hat das Leben; wer den Sohn Gottes nicht hat, der hat das Leben nicht.
5:12 He that has the Son has life; and he that has not the Son of God has not life.
5:13 Solches habe ich euch geschrieben, die ihr glaubet an den Namen des Sohnes Gottes, auf daß ihr wisset, daß ihr das ewige Leben habt, und daß ihr glaubet an den Namen des Sohnes Gottes.
5:13 These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that all of you may know that all of you have eternal life, and that all of you may believe on the name of the Son of God.
5:14 Und das ist die Freudigkeit, die wir haben zu ihm, daß, so wir etwas bitten nach seinem Willen, so hört er uns.
5:14 And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he hears us:
5:15 Und so wir wissen, daß er uns hört, was wir bitten, so wissen wir, daß wir die Bitte haben, die wir von ihm gebeten haben.
5:15 And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him.
5:16 So jemand sieht seinen Bruder sündigen eine Sünde nicht zum Tode, der mag bitten; so wird er geben das Leben denen, die da sündigen nicht zum Tode. Es gibt eine Sünde zum Tode; für die sage ich nicht, daß jemand bitte.
5:16 If any man see his brother sin a sin which is not unto death, he shall ask, and he shall give him life for them that sin not unto death. There is a sin unto death: I do not say that he shall pray for it.
5:17 Alle Untugend ist Sünde; und es ist etliche Sünde nicht zum Tode.
5:17 All unrighteousness is sin: and there is a sin not unto death.
5:18 Wir wissen, daß, wer von Gott geboren ist, der sündigt nicht; sondern wer von Gott geboren ist, der bewahrt sich, und der Arge wird ihn nicht antasten.
5:18 We know that whosoever is born of God sins not; but he that is begotten of God keeps himself, and that wicked one touches him not.
5:19 Wir wissen, daß wir von Gott sind und die ganze Welt im Argen liegt.
5:19 And we know that we are of God, and the whole world lies in wickedness.
5:20 Wir wissen aber, daß der Sohn Gottes gekommen ist und hat uns einen Sinn gegeben, daß wir erkennen den Wahrhaftigen; und wir sind in dem Wahrhaftigen, in seinem Sohn Jesus Christus. Dieser ist der wahrhaftige Gott und das ewige Leben.
5:20 And we know that the Son of God has come, and has given us an understanding, that we may know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, even in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life.
5:21 Kindlein, hütet euch vor den Abgöttern! Amen.
5:21 Little children, keep yourselves from idols. Amen.

1:1 Der Älteste: der auserwählten Frau und ihren Kindern, die ich liebhabe in der Wahrheit, und nicht allein ich sondern auch alle, die die Wahrheit erkannt haben,
1:1 The elder unto the elect lady and her children, whom I love in the truth; and not I only, but also all they that have known the truth;
1:2 um der Wahrheit willen, die in uns bleibt und bei uns sein wird in Ewigkeit.
1:2 For the truth's sake, which dwells in us, and shall be with us for ever.
1:3 Gnade, Barmherzigkeit, Friede von Gott, dem Vater, und von dem HERRN Jesus Christus, dem Sohn des Vaters, in der Wahrheit und in der Liebe, sei mit euch!
1:3 Grace be with you, mercy, and peace, from God the Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of the Father, in truth and love. (o. agape)
1:4 Ich bin erfreut, daß ich gefunden habe unter deinen Kindern, die in der Wahrheit wandeln, wie denn wir ein Gebot vom Vater empfangen haben.
1:4 I rejoiced greatly that I found of your children walking in truth, as we have received a commandment from the Father.
1:5 Und nun bitte ich dich, Frau (nicht als schriebe ich dir ein neues Gebot, sondern das wir gehabt haben von Anfang), daß wir uns untereinander lieben.
1:5 And now I plead to you, lady, not as though I wrote a new commandment unto you, but that which we had from the beginning, that we love one another.
1:6 Und das ist die Liebe, daß wir wandeln nach seinem Gebot; das ist das Gebot, wie ihr gehört habt von Anfang, daß ihr in derselben wandeln sollt.
1:6 And this is love, (o. agape) that we walk after his commandments. This is the commandment, That, as all of you have heard from the beginning, all of you should walk in it.
1:7 Denn viele Verführer sind in die Welt gekommen, die nicht bekennen Jesum Christum, daß er in das Fleisch gekommen ist. Das ist der Verführer und der Widerchrist.
1:7 For many deceivers are entered into the world, who confess not that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh. This is a deceiver and an antichrist.
1:8 Sehet euch vor, daß wir nicht verlieren, was wir erarbeitet haben, sondern vollen Lohn empfangen.
1:8 Look to yourselves, that we lose not those things which we have wrought, but that we receive a full reward.
1:9 Wer übertritt und bleibt nicht in der Lehre Christi, der hat keinen Gott; wer in der Lehre Christi bleibt, der hat beide, den Vater und den Sohn.
1:9 Whosoever trangresses, and abides not in the doctrine of Christ, has not God. He that abides in the doctrine of Christ, he has both the Father and the Son.
1:10 So jemand zu euch kommt und bringt diese Lehre nicht, den nehmet nicht ins Haus und grüßet ihn auch nicht.
1:10 If there come any unto you, and bring not this doctrine, receive him not into your house, neither bid him God speed:
1:11 Denn wer ihn grüßt, der macht sich teilhaftig seiner bösen Werke.
1:11 For he that bids him God speed is partaker of his evil deeds.
1:12 Ich hatte euch viel zu schreiben, aber ich wollte nicht mit Briefen und Tinte; sondern ich hoffe, zu euch zu kommen und mündlich mit euch reden, auf daß unsere Freude vollkommen sei. {~}
1:12 Having many things to write unto you, I would not write with paper and ink: but I trust to come unto you, and speak face to face, that our joy may be full.
1:13 Es grüßen dich die Kinder deiner Schwester, der Auserwählten. Amen.

1:1 The elder unto the beloved Gaius, whom I love in the truth.
1:2 Mein Lieber, ich wünsche in allen Stücken, daß dir's wohl gehe und du gesund seist, wie es denn deiner Seele wohl geht.
1:2 Beloved, I wish above all things that you may prosper and be in health, even as your soul prospers.
1:3 Ich bin aber sehr erfreut worden, da die Brüder kamen und zeugten von deiner Wahrheit, wie denn du wandelst in der Wahrheit.
1:3 For I rejoiced greatly, when the brethren came and testified of the truth that is in you, even as you walk in the truth.
1:4 Ich habe keine größere Freude denn die, daß ich höre, wie meine Kinder in der Wahrheit wandeln.
1:4 I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth.
1:5 Mein Lieber, du tust treulich, was du tust an den Brüdern und Gästen,
1:5 Beloved, you do faithfully whatsoever you do to the brethren, and to strangers;
1:6 die von deiner Liebe gezeugt haben vor der Gemeinde; und du wirst wohl tun, wenn du sie abfertigst würdig vor Gott.
1:6 Which have borne witness of your love (o. agape) before the church: whom if you bring forward on their journey after a godly sort, you shall do well:
1:7 Denn um seines Namens willen sind sie ausgezogen und nehmen von den Heiden nichts.
1:7 Because that for his name's sake they went forth, taking nothing of the Gentiles.
1:8 So sollen wir nun solche aufnehmen, auf daß wir der Wahrheit Gehilfen werden.
1:8 We therefore ought to receive such, that we might be fellow-helpers to the truth.
1:9 Ich habe der Gemeinde geschrieben, aber Diotrephes, der unter ihnen hochgehalten sein will, nimmt uns nicht an.
1:9 I wrote unto the church: but Diotrephes, who loves to have the preeminence among them, receives us not.
1:10 Darum, wenn ich komme, will ich ihn erinnern seiner Werke, die er tut; denn er plaudert mit bösen Worten wider uns und läßt sich an dem nicht genügen; er selbst nimmt die Brüder nicht an und wehrt denen, die es tun wollen, und stößt sie aus der Gemeinde.
1:10 Wherefore, if I come, I will remember his deeds which he does, babbling against us with malicious words: (o. logos) and not content therewith, neither does he himself receive the brethren, and forbids them that would, and casts them out of the church.
1:11 Mein Lieber, folge nicht nach dem Bösen, sondern dem Guten. Wer Gutes tut, der ist von Gott; wer Böses tut, der sieht Gott nicht.
1:11 Beloved, follow not that which is evil, but that which is good. He that does good is of God: but he that does evil has not seen God.
1:12 Demetrius hat Zeugnis von jedermann und von der Wahrheit selbst; und wir zeugen auch, und ihr wisset, das unser Zeugnis wahr ist.
1:12 Demetrius has good report of all men, and of the truth itself: yea, and we also bear record; and all of you know that our record is true.
1:13 Ich hatte viel zu schreiben; aber ich will nicht mit der Tinte und der Feder an dich schreiben.
1:13 I had many things to write, but I will not with ink and pen write unto you:
1:14 Ich hoffe aber, dich bald zu sehen; so wollen wir mündlich miteinander reden. - Friede sei mit dir! Es grüßen dich die Freunde. Grüße die Freunde bei Namen.
1:14 But I trust I shall shortly see you, and we shall speak face to face. Peace be to you. Our friends salute you. Greet the friends by name.
