11.1 Il y avait un homme malade, Lazare, de Béthanie, village de Marie et de Marthe, sa soeur.
11:1 Now a certain man was sick, named Lazarus, of Bethany, the town of Mary and her sister Martha.
11.2 C'était cette Marie qui oignit de parfum le Seigneur et qui lui essuya les pieds avec ses cheveux, et c'était son frère Lazare qui était malade.
11:2 (It was that Mary which anointed the Lord with ointment, and wiped his feet with her hair, whose brother Lazarus was sick.)
11.3 Les soeurs envoyèrent dire à Jésus: Seigneur, voici, celui que tu aimes est malade.
11:3 Therefore his sisters sent unto him, saying, Lord, behold, he whom you love is sick.
11.4 Après avoir entendu cela, Jésus dit: Cette maladie n'est point à la mort; mais elle est pour la gloire de Dieu, afin que le Fils de Dieu soit glorifié par elle.
11:4 When Jesus heard that, he said, This sickness is not unto death, but for the glory of God, that the Son of God might be glorified thereby.
11.5 Or, Jésus aimait Marthe, et sa soeur, et Lazare.
11:5 Now Jesus loved Martha, and her sister, and Lazarus.
11.6 Lors donc qu'il eut appris que Lazare était malade, il resta deux jours encore dans le lieu où il était,
11:6 When he had heard therefore that he was sick, he abode two days still in the same place where he was.
11.7 et il dit ensuite aux disciples: Retournons en Judée.
11:7 Then after that says he to his disciples, Let us go into Judaea again.
11.8 Les disciples lui dirent: Rabbi, les Juifs tout récemment cherchaient à te lapider, et tu retournes en Judée!
11:8 His disciples say unto him, Master, the Jews of late sought to stone you; and go you thither again?
11.9 Jésus répondit: N'y a-t-il pas douze heures au jour? Si quelqu'un marche pendant le jour, il ne bronche point, parce qu'il voit la lumière de ce monde;
11:9 Jesus answered, Are there not twelve hours in the day? If any man walk in the day, he stumbles not, because he sees the light of this world.
11.10 mais, si quelqu'un marche pendant la nuit, il bronche, parce que la lumière n'est pas en lui.
11:10 But if a man walk in the night, he stumbles, because there is no light in him.
11.11 Après ces paroles, il leur dit: Lazare, notre ami, dort; mais je vais le réveiller.
11:11 These things said he: and after that he says unto them, Our friend Lazarus sleeps; but I go, that I may awake him out of sleep.
11.12 Les disciples lui dirent: Seigneur, s'il dort, il sera guéri.
11:12 Then said his disciples, Lord, if he sleep, he shall do well.
11.13 Jésus avait parlé de sa mort, mais ils crurent qu'il parlait de l'assoupissement du sommeil.
11:13 Nevertheless Jesus spoke of his death: but they thought that he had spoken of taking of rest in sleep.
11.14 Alors Jésus leur dit ouvertement: Lazare est mort.
11:14 Then said Jesus unto them plainly, Lazarus is dead.
11.15 Et, à cause de vous, afin que vous croyiez, je me réjouis de ce que je n'étais pas là. Mais allons vers lui.
11:15 And I am glad for your sakes that I was not there, to the intent all of you may believe; nevertheless let us go unto him.
11.16 Sur quoi Thomas, appelé Didyme, dit aux autres disciples: Allons aussi, afin de mourir avec lui.
11:16 Then said Thomas, which is called Didymus, unto his fellow disciples, Let us also go, that we may die with him.
11.17 Jésus, étant arrivé, trouva que Lazare était déjà depuis quatre jours dans le sépulcre.
11:17 Then when Jesus came, he found that he had lain in the grave four days already.
11.18 Et, comme Béthanie était près de Jérusalem, à quinze stades environ,
11:18 Now Bethany was nigh unto Jerusalem, about fifteen furlongs off:
11.19 beaucoup de Juifs étaient venus vers Marthe et Marie, pour les consoler de la mort de leur frère.
11:19 And many of the Jews came to Martha and Mary, to comfort them concerning their brother.
11.20 Lorsque Marthe apprit que Jésus arrivait, elle alla au-devant de lui, tandis que Marie se tenait assise à la maison.
11:20 Then Martha, as soon as she heard that Jesus was coming, went and met him: but Mary sat still in the house.
11.21 Marthe dit à Jésus: Seigneur, si tu eusses été ici, mon frère ne serait pas mort.
11:21 Then said Martha unto Jesus, Lord, if you had been here, my brother had not died.
11.22 Mais, maintenant même, je sais que tout ce que tu demanderas à Dieu, Dieu te l'accordera.
11:22 But I know, that even now, whatsoever you will ask of God, God will give it you.
11.23 Jésus lui dit: Ton frère ressuscitera.
11:23 Jesus says unto her, Your brother shall rise again.
11.24 Je sais, lui répondit Marthe, qu'il ressuscitera à la résurrection, au dernier jour.
11:24 Martha says unto him, I know that he shall rise again in the resurrection at the last day.
11.25 Jésus lui dit: Je suis la résurrection et la vie. Celui qui croit en moi vivra, quand même il serait mort;
11:25 Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believes in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live:
11.26 et quiconque vit et croit en moi ne mourra jamais. Crois-tu cela?
11:26 And whosoever lives and believes in me shall never die. Believe you this?
11.27 Elle lui dit: Oui, Seigneur, je crois que tu es le Christ, le Fils de Dieu, qui devait venir dans le monde.
11:27 She says unto him, Yea, Lord: I believe that you are the Christ, the Son of God, which should come into the world.
11.28 Ayant ainsi parlé, elle s'en alla. Puis elle appela secrètement Marie, sa soeur, et lui dit: Le maître est ici, et il te demande.
11:28 And when she had so said, she went her way, and called Mary her sister secretly, saying, The Master has come, and calls for you.
11.29 Dès que Marie eut entendu, elle se leva promptement, et alla vers lui.
11:29 As soon as she heard that, she arose quickly, and came unto him.
11.30 Car Jésus n'était pas encore entré dans le village, mais il était dans le lieu où Marthe l'avait rencontré.
11:30 Now Jesus was not yet come into the town, but was in that place where Martha met him.
11.31 Les Juifs qui étaient avec Marie dans la maison et qui la consolaient, l'ayant vue se lever promptement et sortir, la suivirent, disant: Elle va au sépulcre, pour y pleurer.
11:31 The Jews then which were with her in the house, and comforted her, when they saw Mary, that she rose up hastily and went out, followed her, saying, She goes unto the grave to weep there.
11.32 Lorsque Marie fut arrivée là où était Jésus, et qu'elle le vit, elle tomba à ses pieds, et lui dit: Seigneur, si tu eusses été ici, mon frère ne serait pas mort.
11:32 Then when Mary was come where Jesus was, and saw him, she fell down at his feet, saying unto him, Lord, if you had been here, my brother had not died.
11.33 Jésus, la voyant pleurer, elle et les Juifs qui étaient venus avec elle, frémit en son esprit, et fut tout ému.
11:33 When Jesus therefore saw her weeping, and the Jews also weeping which came with her, he groaned in the spirit, (o. pneuma) and was troubled.
11.34 Et il dit: Où l'avez-vous mis? Seigneur, lui répondirent-ils, viens et vois.
11:34 And said, Where have all of you laid him? They said unto him, Lord, come and see.
11.35 Jésus pleura.
11:35 Jesus wept.
11.36 Sur quoi les Juifs dirent: Voyez comme il l'aimait.
11:36 Then said the Jews, Behold how he loved him!
11.37 Et quelques-uns d'entre eux dirent: Lui qui a ouvert les yeux de l'aveugle, ne pouvait-il pas faire aussi que cet homme ne mourût point?
11:37 And some of them said, Could not this man, which opened the eyes of the blind, have caused that even this man should not have died?
11.38 Jésus frémissant de nouveau en lui-même, se rendit au sépulcre. C'était une grotte, et une pierre était placée devant.
11:38 Jesus therefore again groaning in himself comes to the grave. It was a cave, and a stone lay upon it.
11.39 Jésus dit: Otez la pierre. Marthe, la soeur du mort, lui dit: Seigneur, il sent déjà, car il y a quatre jours qu'il est là.
11:39 Jesus said, Take all of you away the stone. Martha, the sister of him that was dead, says unto him, Lord, by this time he stinks: for he has been dead four days.
11.40 Jésus lui dit: Ne t'ai-je pas dit que, si tu crois, tu verras la gloire de Dieu?
11:40 Jesus says unto her, Said I not unto you, that, if you would believe, you should see the glory of God?
11.41 Ils ôtèrent donc la pierre. Et Jésus leva les yeux en haut, et dit: Père, je te rends grâces de ce que tu m'as exaucé.
11:41 Then they took away the stone from the place where the dead was laid. And Jesus lifted up his eyes, and said, Father, I thank you that you have heard me.
11.42 Pour moi, je savais que tu m'exauces toujours; mais j'ai parlé à cause de la foule qui m'entoure, afin qu'ils croient que c'est toi qui m'as envoyé.
11:42 And I knew that you hear me always: but because of the people which stand by I said it, that they may believe that you have sent me.
11.43 Ayant dit cela, il cria d'une voix forte: Lazare, sors!
11:43 And when he thus had spoken, he cried with a loud voice, Lazarus, come forth.
11.44 Et le mort sortit, les pieds et les mains liés de bandes, et le visage enveloppé d'un linge. Jésus leur dit: Déliez-le, et laissez-le aller.
11:44 And he that was dead came forth, bound hand and foot with grave clothes: and his face was bound about with a cloth. Jesus says unto them, Loose him, and let him go.
11.45 Plusieurs des Juifs qui étaient venus vers Marie, et qui virent ce que fit Jésus, crurent en lui.
11:45 Then many of the Jews which came to Mary, and had seen the things which Jesus did, believed on him.
11.46 Mais quelques-uns d'entre eux allèrent trouver les pharisiens, et leur dirent ce que Jésus avait fait.
11:46 But some of them went their ways to the Pharisees, and told them what things Jesus had done.
11.47 Alors les principaux sacrificateurs et les pharisiens assemblèrent le sanhédrin, et dirent: Que ferons-nous? Car cet homme fait beaucoup de miracles.
11:47 Then gathered the chief priests and the Pharisees a council, and said, What do we? for this man does many miracles.
11.48 Si nous le laissons faire, tous croiront en lui, et les Romains viendront détruire et notre ville et notre nation.
11:48 If we let him thus alone, all men will believe on him: and the Romans shall come and take away both our place and nation.
11.49 L'un d'eux, Caïphe, qui était souverain sacrificateur cette année-là, leur dit: Vous n'y entendez rien;
11:49 And one of them, named Caiaphas, being the high priest that same year, said unto them, All of you know nothing at all,
11.50 vous ne réfléchissez pas qu'il est dans votre intérêt qu'un seul homme meure pour le peuple, et que la nation entière ne périsse pas.
11:50 Nor consider that it is expedient for us, that one man should die for the people, and that the whole nation perish not.
11.51 Or, il ne dit pas cela de lui-même; mais étant souverain sacrificateur cette année-là, il prophétisa que Jésus devait mourir pour la nation.
11:51 And this spoke he not of himself: but being high priest that year, he prophesied that Jesus should die for that nation;
11.52 Et ce n'était pas pour la nation seulement; c'était aussi afin de réunir en un seul corps les enfants de Dieu dispersés.
11:52 And not for that nation only, but that also he should gather together in one the children of God that were scattered abroad.
11.53 Dès ce jour, ils résolurent de le faire mourir.
11:53 Then from that day forth they took counsel together in order to put him to death.
11.54 C'est pourquoi Jésus ne se montra plus ouvertement parmi les Juifs; mais il se retira dans la contrée voisine du désert, dans une ville appelée Éphraïm; et là il demeurait avec ses disciples.
11:54 Jesus therefore walked no more openly among the Jews; but went thence unto a country near to the wilderness, into a city called Ephraim, and there continued with his disciples.
11.55 La Pâque des Juifs était proche. Et beaucoup de gens du pays montèrent à Jérusalem avant la Pâque, pour se purifier.
11:55 And the Jews' passover was nigh at hand: and many went out of the country up to Jerusalem before the passover, to purify themselves.
11.56 Ils cherchaient Jésus, et ils se disaient les uns aux autres dans le temple: Que vous en semble? Ne viendra-t-il pas à la fête?
11:56 Then sought they for Jesus, and spoke among themselves, as they stood in the temple, What think all of you, that he will not come to the feast?
11.57 Or, les principaux sacrificateurs et les pharisiens avaient donné l'ordre que, si quelqu'un savait où il était, il le déclarât, afin qu'on se saisît de lui.
11:57 Now both the chief priests and the Pharisees had given a commandment, that, if any man knew where he were, he should show it, that they might take him.
12.1 Six jours avant la Pâque, Jésus arriva à Béthanie, où était Lazare, qu'il avait ressuscité des morts.
12:1 Then Jesus six days before the passover came to Bethany, where Lazarus was, which had been dead, whom he raised from the dead.
12.2 Là, on lui fit un souper; Marthe servait, et Lazare était un de ceux qui se trouvaient à table avec lui.
12:2 There they made him a supper; and Martha served: but Lazarus was one of them that sat at the table with him.
12.3 Marie, ayant pris une livre d'un parfum de nard pur de grand prix, oignit les pieds de Jésus, et elle lui essuya les pieds avec ses cheveux; et la maison fut remplie de l'odeur du parfum.
12:3 Then took Mary a pound of ointment of spikenard, very costly, and anointed the feet of Jesus, and wiped his feet with her hair: and the house was filled with the odour of the ointment.
12.4 Un de ses disciples, Judas Iscariot, fils de Simon, celui qui devait le livrer, dit:
12:4 Then says one of his disciples, Judas Iscariot, Simon's son, which should betray him,
12.5 Pourquoi n'a-t-on pas vendu ce parfum trois cent deniers, pour les donner aux pauvres?
12:5 Why was not this ointment sold for three hundred pence, and given to the poor?
12.6 Il disait cela, non qu'il se mît en peine des pauvres, mais parce qu'il était voleur, et que, tenant la bourse, il prenait ce qu'on y mettait.
12:6 This he said, not that he cared for the poor; but because he was a thief, and had the bag, and bare what was put therein.
12.7 Mais Jésus dit: Laisse-la garder ce parfum pour le jour de ma sépulture.
12:7 Then said Jesus, Let her alone: against the day of my burying has she kept this.
12.8 Vous avez toujours les pauvres avec vous, mais vous ne m'avez pas toujours.
12:8 For the poor always all of you have with you; but me all of you have not always.
12.9 Une grande multitude de Juifs apprirent que Jésus était à Béthanie; et ils y vinrent, non pas seulement à cause de lui, mais aussi pour voir Lazare, qu'il avait ressuscité des morts.
12:9 Much people of the Jews therefore knew that he was there: and they came not for Jesus' sake only, but that they might see Lazarus also, whom he had raised from the dead.
12.10 Les principaux sacrificateurs délibérèrent de faire mourir aussi Lazare,
12:10 But the chief priests consulted that they might put Lazarus also to death;
12.11 parce que beaucoup de Juifs se retiraient d'eux à cause de lui, et croyaient en Jésus.
12:11 Because that by reason of him many of the Jews went away, and believed on Jesus.
12.12 Le lendemain, une foule nombreuse de gens venus à la fête ayant entendu dire que Jésus se rendait à Jérusalem,
12:12 On the next day much people that were come to the feast, when they heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem,
12.13 prirent des branches de palmiers, et allèrent au-devant de lui, en criant: Hosanna! Béni soit celui qui vient au nom du Seigneur, le roi d'Israël!
12:13 Took branches of palm trees, and went forth to meet him, and cried, Hosanna: Blessed is the King of Israel that comes in the name of the Lord.
12.14 Jésus trouva un ânon, et s'assit dessus, selon ce qui est écrit:
12:14 And Jesus, when he had found a young ass, sat thereon; as it is written,
12.15 Ne crains point, fille de Sion; Voici, ton roi vient, Assis sur le petit d'une ânesse.
12:15 Fear not, daughter of Sion: behold, your King comes, sitting on an ass's colt.
12.16 Ses disciples ne comprirent pas d'abord ces choses; mais, lorsque Jésus eut été glorifié, ils se souvinrent qu'elles étaient écrites de lui, et qu'il les avaient été accomplies à son égard.
12:16 These things understood not his disciples at the first: but when Jesus was glorified, then remembered they that these things were written of him, and that they had done these things unto him.
12.17 Tous ceux qui étaient avec Jésus, quand il appela Lazare du sépulcre et le ressuscita des morts, lui rendaient témoignage;
12:17 The people therefore that was with him when he called Lazarus out of his grave, and raised him from the dead, bare record.
12.18 et la foule vint au-devant de lui, parce qu'elle avait appris qu'il avait fait ce miracle.
12:18 For this cause the people also met him, for that they heard that he had done this miracle.
12.19 Les pharisiens se dirent donc les uns aux autres: Vous voyez que vous ne gagnez rien; voici, le monde est allé après lui.
12:19 The Pharisees therefore said among themselves, Perceive all of you how all of you prevail nothing? behold, the world is gone after him.
12.20 Quelques Grecs, du nombre de ceux qui étaient montés pour adorer pendant la fête,
12:20 And there were certain Greeks among them that came up to worship at the feast:
12.21 s'adressèrent à Philippe, de Bethsaïda en Galilée, et lui dirent avec instance: Seigneur, nous voudrions voir Jésus.
12:21 The same came therefore to Philip, which was of Bethsaida of Galilee, and desired him, saying, Sir, we would see Jesus.
12.22 Philippe alla le dire à André, puis André et Philippe le dirent à Jésus.
12:22 Philip comes and tells Andrew: and again Andrew and Philip tell Jesus.
12.23 Jésus leur répondit: L'heure est venue où le Fils de l'homme doit être glorifié.
12:23 And Jesus answered them, saying, The hour has come, that the Son of man should be glorified.
12.24 En vérité, en vérité, je vous le dis, si le grain de blé qui est tombé en terre ne meurt, il reste seul; mais, s'il meurt, il porte beaucoup de fruit.
12:24 Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except a corn of wheat fall into the ground and die, it abides alone: but if it die, it brings forth much fruit.
12.25 Celui qui aime sa vie la perdra, et celui qui hait sa vie dans ce monde la conservera pour la vie éternelle.
12:25 He that loves his life shall lose it; and he that hates his life in this world shall keep it unto life eternal.
12.26 Si quelqu'un me sert, qu'il me suive; et là où je suis, là aussi sera mon serviteur. Si quelqu'un me sert, le Père l'honorera.
12:26 If any man serve me, let him follow me; and where I am, there shall also my servant be: if any man serve me, him will my Father honour.
12.27 Maintenant mon âme est troublée. Et que dirais-je?... Père, délivre-moi de cette heure?... Mais c'est pour cela que je suis venu jusqu'à cette heure.
12:27 Now is my soul troubled; and what shall I say? Father, save me from this hour: but for this cause came I unto this hour.
12.28 Père, glorifie ton nom! Et une voix vint du ciel: Je l'ai glorifié, et je le glorifierai encore.
12:28 Father, glorify your name. Then came there a voice from heaven, saying, I have both glorified it, and will glorify it again.
12.29 La foule qui était là, et qui avait entendu, disait que c'était un tonnerre. D'autres disaient: Un ange lui a parlé.
12:29 The people therefore, that stood by, and heard it, said that it thundered: others said, An angel spoke to him.
12.30 Jésus dit: Ce n'est pas à cause de moi que cette voix s'est fait entendre; c'est à cause de vous.
12:30 Jesus answered and said, This voice came not because of me, but for your sakes.
12.31 Maintenant a lieu le jugement de ce monde; maintenant le prince de ce monde sera jeté dehors.
12:31 Now is the judgment of this world: now shall the prince of this world be cast out.
12.32 Et moi, quand j'aurai été élevé de la terre, j'attirerai tous les hommes à moi.
12:32 And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me.
12.33 En parlant ainsi, il indiquait de quelle mort il devait mourir. -
12:33 This he said, signifying what death he should die.
12.34 La foule lui répondit: Nous avons appris par la loi que le Christ demeure éternellement; comment donc dis-tu: Il faut que le Fils de l'homme soit élevé? Qui est ce Fils de l'homme?
12:34 The people answered him, We have heard out of the law that Christ abides for ever: and how says you, The Son of man must be lifted up? who is this Son of man?
12.35 Jésus leur dit: La lumière est encore pour un peu de temps au milieu de vous. Marchez, pendant que vous avez la lumière, afin que les ténèbres ne vous surprennent point: celui qui marche dans les ténèbres ne sait où il va.
12:35 Then Jesus said unto them, Yet a little while is the light with you. Walk while all of you have the light, lest darkness come upon you: for he that walks in darkness knows not where he goes.
12.36 Pendant que vous avez la lumière, croyez en la lumière, afin que vous soyez des enfants de lumière. Jésus dit ces choses, puis il s'en alla, et se cacha loin d'eux.
12:36 While all of you have light, believe in the light, that all of you may be the children of light. These things spoke Jesus, and departed, and did hide himself from them.
12.37 Malgré tant de miracles qu'il avait faits en leur présence, ils ne croyaient pas en lui,
12:37 But though he had done so many miracles before them, yet they believed not on him:
12.38 afin que s'accomplît la parole qu'Ésaïe, le prophète, a prononcée: Seigneur, Qui a cru à notre prédication? Et à qui le bras du Seigneur a-t-il été révélé?
12:38 That the saying (o. logos) of Isaiah the prophet might be fulfilled, which he spoke, Lord, who has believed our report? and to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed?
12.39 Aussi ne pouvaient-ils croire, parce qu'Ésaïe a dit encore:
12:39 Therefore they could not believe, because that Isaiah said again,
12.40 Il a aveuglé leurs yeux; et il a endurci leur coeur, De peur qu'ils ne voient des yeux, Qu'ils ne comprennent du coeur, Qu'ils ne se convertissent, et que je ne les guérisse.
12:40 He has blinded their eyes, and hardened their heart; that they should not see with their eyes, nor understand with their heart, and be converted, and I should heal them.
12.41 Ésaïe dit ces choses, lorsqu'il vit sa gloire, et qu'il parla de lui.
12:41 These things said Isaiah, when he saw his glory, and spoke of him.
12.42 Cependant, même parmi les chefs, plusieurs crurent en lui; mais, à cause des pharisiens, ils n'en faisaient pas l'aveu, dans la crainte d'être exclus de la synagogue.
12:42 Nevertheless among the chief rulers also many believed on him; but because of the Pharisees they did not confess him, lest they should be put out of the synagogue:
12.43 Car ils aimèrent la gloire des hommes plus que la gloire de Dieu.
12:43 For they loved the praise of men more than the praise of God.
12.44 Or, Jésus s'était écrié: Celui qui croit en moi croit, non pas en moi, mais en celui qui m'a envoyé;
12:44 Jesus cried and said, He that believes on me, believes not on me, but on him that sent me.
12.45 et celui qui me voit voit celui qui m'a envoyé.
12:45 And he that sees me sees him that sent me.
12.46 Je suis venu comme une lumière dans le monde, afin que quiconque croit en moi ne demeure pas dans les ténèbres.
12:46 I am come a light into the world, that whosoever believes on me should not abide in darkness.
12.47 Si quelqu'un entend mes paroles et ne les garde point, ce n'est pas moi qui le juge; car je suis venu non pour juger le monde, mais pour sauver le monde.
12:47 And if any man hear my words, (o. rhema) and believe not, I judge him not: for I came not to judge the world, but to save the world.
12.48 Celui qui me rejette et qui ne reçoit pas mes paroles a son juge; la parole que j'ai annoncée, c'est elle qui le jugera au dernier jour.
12:48 He that rejects me, and receives not my words, (o. rhema) has one that judges him: the word (o. logos) that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day.
12.49 Car je n'ai point parlé de moi-même; mais le Père, qui m'a envoyé, m'a prescrit lui-même ce que je dois dire et annoncer.
12:49 For I have not spoken of myself; but the Father which sent me, he gave me a commandment, what I should say, and what I should speak.
12.50 Et je sais que son commandement est la vie éternelle. C'est pourquoi les choses que je dis, je les dis comme le Père me les a dites.
12:50 And I know that his commandment is life everlasting: whatsoever I speak therefore, even as the Father said unto me, so I speak.
13.1 Avant la fête de Pâque, Jésus, sachant que son heure était venue de passer de ce monde au Père, et ayant aimé les siens qui étaient dans le monde, mit le comble à son amour pour eux.
13:1 Now before the feast of the passover, when Jesus knew that his hour was come that he should depart out of this world unto the Father, having loved his own which were in the world, he loved them unto the end.
13.2 Pendant le souper, lorsque le diable avait déjà inspiré au coeur de Judas Iscariot, fils de Simon, le dessein de le livrer,
13:2 And supper being ended, the devil having now put into the heart of Judas Iscariot, Simon's son, to betray him;
13.3 Jésus, qui savait que le Père avait remis toutes choses entre ses mains, qu'il était venu de Dieu, et qu'il s'en allait à Dieu,
13:3 Jesus knowing that the Father had given all things into his hands, and that he was come from God, and went to God;
13.4 se leva de table, ôta ses vêtements, et prit un linge, dont il se ceignit.
13:4 He rises from supper, and laid aside his garments; and took a towel, and girded himself.
13.5 Ensuite il versa de l'eau dans un bassin, et il se mit à laver les pieds des disciples, et à les essuyer avec le linge dont il était ceint.
13:5 After that he pours water into a basin, and began to wash the disciples' feet, and to wipe them with the towel wherewith he was girded.
13.6 Il vint donc à Simon Pierre; et Pierre lui dit: Toi, Seigneur, tu me laves les pieds!
13:6 Then comes he to Simon Peter: and Peter says unto him, Lord, do you wash my feet?
13.7 Jésus lui répondit: Ce que je fais, tu ne le comprends pas maintenant, mais tu le comprendras bientôt.
13:7 Jesus answered and said unto him, What I do you know not now; but you shall know hereafter.
13.8 Pierre lui dit: Non, jamais tu ne me laveras les pieds. Jésus lui répondit: Si je ne te lave, tu n'auras point de part avec moi.
13:8 Peter says unto him, You shall never wash my feet. Jesus answered him, If I wash you not, you have no part with me.
13.9 Simon Pierre lui dit: Seigneur, non seulement les pieds, mais encore les mains et la tête.
13:9 Simon Peter says unto him, Lord, not my feet only, but also my hands and my head.
13.10 Jésus lui dit: Celui qui est lavé n'a besoin que de se laver les pieds pour être entièrement pur; et vous êtes purs, mais non pas tous.
13:10 Jesus says to him, He that is washed needs not save to wash his feet, but is clean everything: and all of you are clean, but not all.
13.11 Car il connaissait celui qui le livrait; c'est pourquoi il dit: Vous n'êtes pas tous purs.
13:11 For he knew who should betray him; therefore said he, All of you are not all clean.
13.12 Après qu'il leur eut lavé les pieds, et qu'il eut pris ses vêtements, il se remit à table, et leur dit: Comprenez-vous ce que je vous ai fait?
13:12 So after he had washed their feet, and had taken his garments, and was set down again, he said unto them, Know all of you what I have done to you?
13.13 Vous m'appelez Maître et Seigneur; et vous dites bien, car je le suis.
13:13 All of you call me Master and Lord: and all of you say well; for so I am.
13.14 Si donc je vous ai lavé les pieds, moi, le Seigneur et le Maître, vous devez aussi vous laver les pieds les uns aux autres;
13:14 If I then, your Lord and Master, have washed your feet; all of you also ought to wash one another's feet.
13.15 car je vous ai donné un exemple, afin que vous fassiez comme je vous ai fait.
13:15 For I have given you an example, that all of you should do as I have done to you.
13.16 En vérité, en vérité, je vous le dis, le serviteur n'est pas plus grand que son seigneur, ni l'apôtre plus grand que celui qui l'a envoyé.
13:16 Verily, verily, I say unto you, The servant is not greater than his lord; neither he that is sent greater than he that sent him.
13.17 Si vous savez ces choses, vous êtes heureux, pourvu que vous les pratiquiez.
13:17 If all of you know these things, happy are all of you if all of you do them.
13.18 Ce n'est pas de vous tous que je parle; je connais ceux que j'ai choisis. Mais il faut que l'Écriture s'accomplisse: Celui qui mange avec moi le pain A levé son talon contre moi.
13:18 I speak not of you all: I know whom I have chosen: but that the scripture may be fulfilled, He that eats bread with me has lifted up his heel against me.
13.19 Dès à présent je vous le dis, avant que la chose arrive, afin que, lorsqu'elle arrivera, vous croyiez à ce que je suis.
13:19 Now I tell you before it come, that, when it has come to pass, all of you may believe that I am he.
13.20 En vérité, en vérité, je vous le dis, celui qui reçoit celui que j'aurai envoyé me reçoit, et celui qui me reçoit, reçoit celui qui m'a envoyé.
13:20 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that receives whomsoever I send receives me; and he that receives me receives him that sent me.
13.21 Ayant ainsi parlé, Jésus fut troublé en son esprit, et il dit expressément: En vérité, en vérité, je vous le dis, l'un de vous me livrera.
13:21 When Jesus had thus said, he was troubled in spirit, (o. pneuma) and testified, and said, Verily, verily, I say unto you, that one of you shall betray me.
13.22 Les disciples se regardaient les uns les autres, ne sachant de qui il parlait.
13:22 Then the disciples looked one on another, doubting of whom he spoke.
13.23 Un des disciples, celui que Jésus aimait, était couché sur le sein de Jésus.
13:23 Now there was leaning on Jesus' bosom one of his disciples, whom Jesus loved.
13.24 Simon Pierre lui fit signe de demander qui était celui dont parlait Jésus.
13:24 Simon Peter therefore beckoned to him, that he should ask who it should be of whom he spoke.
13.25 Et ce disciple, s'étant penché sur la poitrine de Jésus, lui dit: Seigneur, qui est-ce?
13:25 He then lying on Jesus' breast says unto him, Lord, who is it?
13.26 Jésus répondit: C'est celui à qui je donnerai le morceau trempé. Et, ayant trempé le morceau, il le donna à Judas, fils de Simon, l'Iscariot.
13:26 Jesus answered, He it is, to whom I shall give a morsel, when I have dipped it. And when he had dipped the morsel, he gave it to Judas Iscariot, the son of Simon.
13.27 Dès que le morceau fut donné, Satan entra dans Judas. Jésus lui dit: Ce que tu fais, fais-le promptement.
13:27 And after the morsel Satan entered into him. Then said Jesus unto him, That you do, do quickly.
13.28 Mais aucun de ceux qui étaient à table ne comprit pourquoi il lui disait cela;
13:28 Now no man at the table knew for what intent he spoke this unto him.
13.29 car quelques-uns pensaient que, comme Judas avait la bourse, Jésus voulait lui dire: Achète ce dont nous avons besoin pour la fête, ou qu'il lui commandait de donner quelque chose aux pauvres.
13:29 For some of them thought, because Judas had the bag, that Jesus had said unto him, Buy those things that we have need of against the feast; or, that he should give something to the poor.
13.30 Judas, ayant pris le morceau, se hâta de sortir. Il était nuit.
13:30 He then having received the morsel went immediately out: and it was night.
13.31 Lorsque Judas fut sorti, Jésus dit: Maintenant, le Fils de l'homme a été glorifié, et Dieu a été glorifié en lui.
13:31 Therefore, when he was gone out, Jesus said, Now is the Son of man glorified, and God is glorified in him.
13.32 Si Dieu a été glorifié en lui, Dieu aussi le glorifiera en lui-même, et il le glorifiera bientôt.
13:32 If God be glorified in him, God shall also glorify him in himself, and shall immediately glorify him.
13.33 Mes petits enfants, je suis pour peu de temps encore avec vous. Vous me chercherez; et, comme j'ai dit aux Juifs: Vous ne pouvez venir où je vais, je vous le dis aussi maintenant.
13:33 Little children, yet a little while I am with you. All of you shall seek me: and as I said unto the Jews, Where I go, all of you cannot come; so now I say to you.
13.34 Je vous donne un commandement nouveau: Aimez-vous les uns les autres; comme je vous ai aimés, vous aussi, aimez-vous les uns les autres.
13:34 A new commandment I give unto you, That all of you love one another; as I have loved you, that all of you also love one another.
13.35 A ceci tous connaîtront que vous êtes mes disciples, si vous avez de l'amour les uns pour les autres.
13:35 By this shall all men know that all of you are my disciples, if all of you have love (o. agape) one to another.
13.36 Simon Pierre lui dit: Seigneur, où vas-tu? Jésus répondit: Tu ne peux pas maintenant me suivre où je vais, mais tu me suivras plus tard.
13:36 Simon Peter said unto him, Lord, where go you? Jesus answered him, Where I go, you can not follow me now; but you shall follow me afterwards.
13.37 Seigneur, lui dit Pierre, pourquoi ne puis-je pas te suivre maintenant? Je donnerai ma vie pour toi.
13:37 Peter said unto him, Lord, why cannot I follow you now? I will lay down my life for your sake.
13.38 Jésus répondit: Tu donneras ta vie pour moi! En vérité, en vérité, je te le dis, le coq ne chantera pas que tu ne m'aies renié trois fois.
13:38 Jesus answered him, Will you lay down your life for my sake? Verily, verily, I say unto you, The cock shall not crow, till you have denied me three times.
14.1 Que votre coeur ne se trouble point. Croyez en Dieu, et croyez en moi.
14:1 Let not your heart be troubled: all of you believe in God, believe also in me.
14.2 Il y a plusieurs demeures dans la maison de mon Père. Si cela n'était pas, je vous l'aurais dit. Je vais vous préparer une place.
14:2 In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.
14.3 Et, lorsque je m'en serai allé, et que je vous aurai préparé une place, je reviendrai, et je vous prendrai avec moi, afin que là où je suis vous y soyez aussi.
14:3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there all of you may be also.
14.4 Vous savez où je vais, et vous en savez le chemin.
14:4 And where I go all of you know, and the way all of you know.
14.5 Thomas lui dit: Seigneur, nous ne savons où tu vas; comment pouvons-nous en savoir le chemin?
14:5 Thomas says unto him, Lord, we know not where you go; and how can we know the way?
14.6 Jésus lui dit: Je suis le chemin, la vérité, et la vie. Nul ne vient au Père que par moi.
14:6 Jesus says unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man comes unto the Father, but by me.
14.7 Si vous me connaissiez, vous connaîtriez aussi mon Père. Et dès maintenant vous le connaissez, et vous l'avez vu.
14:7 If all of you had known me, all of you should have known my Father also: and from henceforth all of you know him, and have seen him.
14.8 Philippe lui dit: Seigneur, montre-nous le Père, et cela nous suffit.
14:8 Philip says unto him, Lord, show us the Father, and it satisfies us.
14.9 Jésus lui dit: Il y a si longtemps que je suis avec vous, et tu ne m'as pas connu, Philippe! Celui qui m'a vu a vu le Père; comment dis-tu: Montre-nous le Père?
14:9 Jesus says unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and yet have you not known me, Philip? he that has seen me has seen the Father; and how says you then, Show us the Father?
14.10 Ne crois-tu pas que je suis dans le Père, et que le Père est en moi? Les paroles que je vous dis, je ne les dis pas de moi-même; et le Père qui demeure en moi, c'est lui qui fait les oeuvres.
14:10 Believe you not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? the (o. rhema) words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwells in me, he does the works.
14.11 Croyez-moi, je suis dans le Père, et le Père est en moi; croyez du moins à cause de ces oeuvres.
14:11 Believe me that I am in the Father, and the Father in me: or else believe me for the very works' sake.
14.12 En vérité, en vérité, je vous le dis, celui qui croit en moi fera aussi les oeuvres que je fais, et il en fera de plus grandes, parce que je m'en vais au Père;
14:12 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believes on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.
14.13 et tout ce que vous demanderez en mon nom, je le ferai, afin que le Père soit glorifié dans le Fils.
14:13 And whatsoever all of you shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.
14.14 Si vous demandez quelque chose en mon nom, je le ferai.
14:14 If all of you shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it.
14.15 Si vous m'aimez, gardez mes commandements.
14:15 If all of you love me, keep my commandments.
14.16 Et moi, je prierai le Père, et il vous donnera un autre consolateur, afin qu'il demeure éternellement avec vous,
14:16 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;
14.17 l'Esprit de vérité, que le monde ne peut recevoir, parce qu'il ne le voit point et ne le connaît point; mais vous, vous le connaissez, car il demeure avec vous, et il sera en vous.
14:17 Even the Spirit (o. pneuma) of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it sees him not, neither knows him: but all of you know him; for he dwells with you, and shall be in you.
14.18 Je ne vous laisserai pas orphelins, je viendrai à vous.
14:18 I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.
14.19 Encore un peu de temps, et le monde ne me verra plus; mais vous, vous me verrez, car je vis, et vous vivrez aussi.
14:19 Yet a little while, and the world sees me no more; but all of you see me: because I live, all of you shall live also.
14.20 En ce jour-là, vous connaîtrez que je suis en mon Père, que vous êtes en moi, et que je suis en vous.
14:20 At that day all of you shall know that I am in my Father, and all of you in me, and I in you.
14.21 Celui qui a mes commandements et qui les garde, c'est celui qui m'aime; et celui qui m'aime sera aimé de mon Père, je l'aimerai, et je me ferai connaître à lui.
14:21 He that has my commandments, and keeps them, he it is that loves me: and he that loves me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him.
14.22 Jude, non pas l'Iscariot, lui dit: Seigneur, d'où vient que tu te feras connaître à nous, et non au monde?
14:22 Judas says unto him, not Iscariot, Lord, how is it that you will manifest yourself unto us, and not unto the world?
14.23 Jésus lui répondit: Si quelqu'un m'aime, il gardera ma parole, et mon Père l'aimera; nous viendrons à lui, et nous ferons notre demeure chez lui.
14:23 Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: (o. logos) and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him.
14.24 Celui qui ne m'aime pas ne garde point mes paroles. Et la parole que vous entendez n'est pas de moi, mais du Père qui m'a envoyé.
14:24 He that loves me not keeps not my sayings: (o. logos) and the word (o. logos) which all of you hear is not mine, but the Father's which sent me.
14.25 Je vous ai dit ces choses pendant que je demeure avec vous.
14:25 These things have I spoken unto you, being yet present with you.
14.26 Mais le consolateur, l'Esprit Saint, que le Père enverra en mon nom, vous enseignera toutes choses, et vous rappellera tout ce que je vous ai dit.
14:26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Spirit, (o. pneuma) whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.
14.27 Je vous laisse la paix, je vous donne ma paix. Je ne vous donne pas comme le monde donne. Que votre coeur ne se trouble point, et ne s'alarme point.
14:27 Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world gives, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.
14.28 Vous avez entendu que je vous ai dit: Je m'en vais, et je reviens vers vous. Si vous m'aimiez, vous vous réjouiriez de ce que je vais au Père; car le Père est plus grand que moi.
14:28 All of you have heard how I said unto you, I go away, and come again unto you. If all of you loved me, all of you would rejoice, because I said, I go unto the Father: for my Father is greater than I.
14.29 Et maintenant je vous ai dit ces choses avant qu'elles arrivent, afin que, lorsqu'elles arriveront, vous croyiez.
14:29 And now I have told you before it come to pass, that, when it has come to pass, all of you might believe.
14.30 Je ne parlerai plus guère avec vous; car le prince du monde vient. Il n'a rien en moi;
14:30 Hereafter I will not talk much with you: for the prince of this world comes, and has nothing in me.
14.31 mais afin que le monde sache que j'aime le Père, et que j'agis selon l'ordre que le Père m'a donné, levez-vous, partons d'ici.
14:31 But that the world may know that I love the Father; and as the Father gave me commandment, even so I do. Arise, let us go behind.
15.1 Je suis le vrai cep, et mon Père est le vigneron.
15:1 I am the true vine, and my Father is the farmer.
15.2 Tout sarment qui est en moi et qui ne porte pas de fruit, il le retranche; et tout sarment qui porte du fruit, il l'émonde, afin qu'il porte encore plus de fruit.
15:2 Every branch in me that bears not fruit he takes away: and every branch that bears fruit, he purges it, that it may bring forth more fruit.
15.3 Déjà vous êtes purs, à cause de la parole que je vous ai annoncée.
15:3 Now all of you are clean through the word (o. logos) which I have spoken unto you.
15.4 Demeurez en moi, et je demeurerai en vous. Comme le sarment ne peut de lui-même porter du fruit, s'il ne demeure attaché au cep, ainsi vous ne le pouvez non plus, si vous ne demeurez en moi.
15:4 Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can all of you, except all of you abide in me.
15.5 Je suis le cep, vous êtes les sarments. Celui qui demeure en moi et en qui je demeure porte beaucoup de fruit, car sans moi vous ne pouvez rien faire.
15:5 I am the vine, all of you are the branches: He that abides in me, and I in him, the same brings forth much fruit: for without me all of you can do nothing.
15.6 Si quelqu'un ne demeure pas en moi, il est jeté dehors, comme le sarment, et il sèche; puis on ramasse les sarments, on les jette au feu, et ils brûlent.
15:6 If a man abide not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered; and men gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burned.
15.7 Si vous demeurez en moi, et que mes paroles demeurent en vous, demandez ce que vous voudrez, et cela vous sera accordé.
15:7 If all of you abide in me, and my words (o. rhema) abide in you, all of you shall ask what all of you will, and it shall be done unto you.
15.8 Si vous portez beaucoup de fruit, c'est ainsi que mon Père sera glorifié, et que vous serez mes disciples.
15:8 Herein is my Father glorified, that all of you bear much fruit; so shall all of you be my disciples.
15.9 Comme le Père m'a aimé, je vous ai aussi aimés. Demeurez dans mon amour.
15:9 As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you: continue all of you in my love. (o. agape)
15.10 Si vous gardez mes commandements, vous demeurerez dans mon amour, de même que j'ai gardé les commandements de mon Père, et que je demeure dans son amour.
15:10 If all of you keep my commandments, all of you shall abide in my love; (o. agape) even as I have kept my Father's commandments, and abide in his love. (o. agape)
15.11 Je vous ai dit ces choses, afin que ma joie soit en vous, et que votre joie soit parfaite.
15:11 These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full.
15.12 C'est ici mon commandement: Aimez-vous les uns les autres, comme je vous ai aimés.
15:12 This is my commandment, That all of you love one another, as I have loved you.
15.13 Il n'y a pas de plus grand amour que de donner sa vie pour ses amis.
15:13 Greater love (o. agape) has no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.
15.14 Vous êtes mes amis, si vous faites ce que je vous commande.
15:14 All of you are my friends, if all of you do whatsoever I command you.
15.15 Je ne vous appelle plus serviteurs, parce que le serviteur ne sait pas ce que fait son maître; mais je vous ai appelés amis, parce que je vous ai fait connaître tout ce que j'ai appris de mon Père.
15:15 Henceforth I call you not servants; for the servant knows not what his lord does: but I have called you friends; for all things that I have heard of my Father I have made known unto you.
15.16 Ce n'est pas vous qui m'avez choisi; mais moi, je vous ai choisis, et je vous ai établis, afin que vous alliez, et que vous portiez du fruit, et que votre fruit demeure, afin que ce que vous demanderez au Père en mon nom, il vous le donne.
15:16 All of you have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that all of you should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever all of you shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you.
15.17 Ce que je vous commande, c'est de vous aimer les uns les autres.
15:17 These things I command you, that all of you love one another.
15.18 Si le monde vous hait, sachez qu'il m'a haï avant vous.
15:18 If the world hate you, all of you know that it hated me before it hated you.
15.19 Si vous étiez du monde, le monde aimerait ce qui est à lui; mais parce que vous n'êtes pas du monde, et que je vous ai choisis du milieu du monde, à cause de cela le monde vous hait.
15:19 If all of you were of the world, the world would love his own: but because all of you are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hates you.
15.20 Souvenez-vous de la parole que je vous ai dite: Le serviteur n'est pas plus grand que son maître. S'ils m'ont persécuté, ils vous persécuteront aussi; s'ils ont gardé ma parole, ils garderont aussi la vôtre.
15:20 Remember the word (o. logos) that I said unto you, The servant is not greater than his lord. If they have persecuted me, they will also persecute you; if they have kept my saying, (o. logos) they will keep yours also.
15.21 Mais ils vous feront toutes ces choses à cause de mon nom, parce qu'ils ne connaissent pas celui qui m'a envoyé.
15:21 But all these things will they do unto you for my name's sake, because they know not him that sent me.
15.22 Si je n'étais pas venu et que je ne leur eusses point parlé, ils n'auraient pas de péché; mais maintenant ils n'ont aucune excuse de leur péché.
15:22 If I had not come and spoken unto them, they had not had sin: but now they have no cloak for their sin.
15.23 Celui qui me hait, hait aussi mon Père.
15:23 He that hates me hates my Father also.
15.24 Si je n'avais pas fait parmi eux des oeuvres que nul autre n'a faites, ils n'auraient pas de péché; mais maintenant ils les ont vues, et ils ont haï et moi et mon Père.
15:24 If I had not done among them the works which no other man did, they had not had sin: but now have they both seen and hated both me and my Father.
15.25 Mais cela est arrivé afin que s'accomplît la parole qui est écrite dans leur loi: Ils m'ont haï sans cause.
15:25 But this comes to pass, that the word (o. logos) might be fulfilled that is written in their law, They hated me without a cause.
15.26 Quand sera venu le consolateur, que je vous enverrai de la part du Père, l'Esprit de vérité, qui vient du Père, il rendra témoignage de moi;
15:26 But when the Comforter has come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit (o. pneuma) of truth, which proceeds from the Father, he shall testify of me:
15.27 et vous aussi, vous rendrez témoignage, parce que vous êtes avec moi dès le commencement.
15:27 And all of you also shall bear witness, because all of you have been with me from the beginning.
16.1 Je vous ai dit ces choses, afin qu'elles ne soient pas pour vous une occasion de chute.
16:1 These things have I spoken unto you, that all of you should not be offended.
16.2 Ils vous excluront des synagogues; et même l'heure vient où quiconque vous fera mourir croira rendre un culte à Dieu.
16:2 They shall put you out of the synagogues: yea, the time comes, that whosoever kills you will think that he does God service.
16.3 Et ils agiront ainsi, parce qu'ils n'ont connu ni le Père ni moi.
16:3 And these things will they do unto you, because they have not known the Father, nor me.
16.4 Je vous ai dit ces choses, afin que, lorsque l'heure sera venue, vous vous souveniez que je vous les ai dites. Je ne vous en ai pas parlé dès le commencement, parce que j'étais avec vous.
16:4 But these things have I told you, that when the time shall come, all of you may remember that I told you of them. And these things I said not unto you at the beginning, because I was with you.
16.5 Maintenant je m'en vais vers celui qui m'a envoyé, et aucun de vous ne me demande: Où vas-tu?
16:5 But now I go my way to him that sent me; and none of you asks me, Where go you?
16.6 Mais, parce que je vous ai dit ces choses, la tristesse a rempli votre coeur.
16:6 But because I have said these things unto you, sorrow has filled your heart.
16.7 Cependant je vous dis la vérité: il vous est avantageux que je m'en aille, car si je ne m'en vais pas, le consolateur ne viendra pas vers vous; mais, si je m'en vais, je vous l'enverrai.
16:7 Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you.
16.8 Et quand il sera venu, il convaincra le monde en ce qui concerne le péché, la justice, et le jugement:
16:8 And when he has come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment:

16:10 Of righteousness, because I go to my Father, and all of you see me no more;

16:12 I have yet many things to say unto you, but all of you cannot bear them now.
16.13 Quand le consolateur sera venu, l'Esprit de vérité, il vous conduira dans toute la vérité; car il ne parlera pas de lui-même, mais il dira tout ce qu'il aura entendu, et il vous annoncera les choses à venir.
16:13 Nevertheless when he, the Spirit (o. pneuma) of truth, has come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will show you things to come.
16.14 Il me glorifiera, parce qu'il prendra de ce qui est à moi, et vous l'annoncera.
16:14 He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall show it unto you.
16.15 Tout ce que le Père a est à moi; c'est pourquoi j'ai dit qu'il prend de ce qui est à moi, et qu'il vous l'annoncera.
16:15 All things that the Father has are mine: therefore said I, that he shall take of mine, and shall show it unto you.
16.16 Encore un peu de temps, et vous ne me verrez plus; et puis encore un peu de temps, et vous me verrez, parce que je vais au Père.
16:16 A little while, and all of you shall not see me: and again, a little while, and all of you shall see me, because I go to the Father.
16.17 Là-dessus, quelques-uns de ses disciples dirent entre eux: Que signifie ce qu'il nous dit: Encore un peu de temps, et vous ne me verrez plus; et puis encore un peu de temps, et vous me verrez? et: Parce que je vais au Père?
16:17 Then said some of his disciples among themselves, What is this that he says unto us, A little while, and all of you shall not see me: and again, a little while, and all of you shall see me: and, Because I go to the Father?
16.18 Ils disaient donc: Que signifie ce qu'il dit: Encore un peu de temps? Nous ne savons de quoi il parle.
16:18 They said therefore, What is this that he says, A little while? we cannot tell what he says.
16.19 Jésus, connut qu'ils voulaient l'interroger, leur dit: Vous vous questionnez les uns les autres sur ce que j'ai dit: Encore un peu de temps, et vous ne me verrez plus; et puis encore un peu de temps, et vous me verrez.
16:19 Now Jesus knew that they were desirous to ask him, and said unto them, Do all of you enquire among yourselves of that I said, A little while, and all of you shall not see me: and again, a little while, and all of you shall see me?
16.20 En vérité, en vérité, je vous le dis, vous pleurerez et vous vous lamenterez, et le monde se réjouira: vous serez dans la tristesse, mais votre tristesse se changera en joie.
16:20 Verily, verily, I say unto you, That all of you shall weep and lament, but the world shall rejoice: and all of you shall be sorrowful, but your sorrow shall be turned into joy.
16.21 La femme, lorsqu'elle enfante, éprouve de la tristesse, parce que son heure est venue; mais, lorsqu'elle a donné le jour à l'enfant, elle ne se souvient plus de la souffrance, à cause de la joie qu'elle a de ce qu'un homme est né dans le monde.
16:21 A woman when she is in travail has sorrow, because her hour has come: but as soon as she is delivered of the child, she remembers no more the anguish, for joy that a man is born into the world.
16.22 Vous donc aussi, vous êtes maintenant dans la tristesse; mais je vous reverrai, et votre coeur se réjouira, et nul ne vous ravira votre joie.
16:22 And all of you now therefore have sorrow: but I will see you again, and your heart shall rejoice, and your joy no man takes from you.
16.23 En ce jour-là, vous ne m'interrogerez plus sur rien. En vérité, en vérité, je vous le dis, ce que vous demanderez au Père, il vous le donnera en mon nom.
16:23 And in that day all of you shall ask me nothing. Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whatsoever all of you shall ask the Father in my name, he will give it you.
16.24 Jusqu'à présent vous n'avez rien demandé en mon nom. Demandez, et vous recevrez, afin que votre joie soit parfaite.
16:24 Until now have all of you asked nothing in my name: ask, and all of you shall receive, that your joy may be full.
16.25 Je vous ai dit ces choses en paraboles. L'heure vient où je ne vous parlerai plus en paraboles, mais où je vous parlerai ouvertement du Père.
16:25 These things have I spoken unto you in proverbs: but the time comes, when I shall no more speak unto you in proverbs, but I shall show you plainly of the Father.
16.26 En ce jour, vous demanderez en mon nom, et je ne vous dis pas que je prierai le Père pour vous;
16:26 At that day all of you shall ask in my name: and I say not unto you, that I will pray the Father for you:
16.27 car le Père lui-même vous aime, parce que vous m'avez aimé, et que vous avez cru que je suis sorti de Dieu.
16:27 For the Father himself loves you, because all of you have loved me, and have believed that I came out from God.
16.28 Je suis sorti du Père, et je suis venu dans le monde; maintenant je quitte le monde, et je vais au Père.
16:28 I came forth from the Father, and am come into the world: again, I leave the world, and go to the Father.
16.29 Ses disciples lui dirent: Voici, maintenant tu parles ouvertement, et tu n'emploies aucune parabole.
16:29 His disciples said unto him, Lo, now speak you plainly, and speak no proverb.
16.30 Maintenant nous savons que tu sais toutes choses, et que tu n'as pas besoin que personne t'interroge; c'est pourquoi nous croyons que tu es sorti de Dieu.
16:30 Now are we sure that you know all things, and need not that any man should ask you: by this we believe that you came forth from God.
16.31 Jésus leur répondit: Vous croyez maintenant.
16:31 Jesus answered them, Do all of you now believe?
16.32 Voici, l'heure vient, et elle est déjà venue, où vous serez dispersés chacun de son côté, et où vous me laisserez seul; mais je ne suis pas seul, car le Père est avec moi.
16:32 Behold, the hour comes, yea, is now come, that all of you shall be scattered, every man to his own, and shall leave me alone: and yet I am not alone, because the Father is with me.
16.33 Je vous ai dit ces choses, afin que vous ayez la paix en moi. Vous aurez des tribulations dans le monde; mais prenez courage, j'ai vaincu le monde.
16:33 These things I have spoken unto you, that in me all of you might have peace. In the world all of you shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.
17.1 Après avoir ainsi parlé, Jésus leva les yeux au ciel, et dit: Père, l'heure est venue! Glorifie ton Fils, afin que ton Fils te glorifie,
17:1 These words spoke Jesus, and lifted up his eyes to heaven, and said, Father, the hour has come; glorify your Son, that your Son also may glorify you:
17.2 selon que tu lui as donné pouvoir sur toute chair, afin qu'il accorde la vie éternelle à tous ceux que tu lui as donnés.
17:2 As you have given him power over all flesh, that he should give eternal life to as many as you have given him.
17.3 Or, la vie éternelle, c'est qu'ils te connaissent, toi, le seul vrai Dieu, et celui que tu as envoyé, Jésus Christ.
17:3 And this is life eternal, that they might know you the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent.
17.4 Je t'ai glorifié sur la terre, j'ai achevé l'oeuvre que tu m'as donnée à faire.
17:4 I have glorified you on the earth: I have finished the work which you gave me to do.
17.5 Et maintenant toi, Père, glorifie-moi auprès de toi-même de la gloire que j'avais auprès de toi avant que le monde fût.
17:5 And now, O Father, glorify you me with yours own self with the glory which I had with you before the world was.
17.6 J'ai fait connaître ton nom aux hommes que tu m'as donnés du milieu du monde. Ils étaient à toi, et tu me les as donnés; et ils ont gardé ta parole.
17:6 I have manifested your name unto the men which you gave me out of the world: yours they were, and you gave them me; and they have kept your word. (o. logos)
17.7 Maintenant ils ont connu que tout ce que tu m'as donné vient de toi.
17:7 Now they have known that all things whatsoever you have given me are of you.
17.8 Car je leur ai donné les paroles que tu m'as données; et ils les ont reçues, et ils ont vraiment connu que je suis sorti de toi, et ils ont cru que tu m'as envoyé.
17:8 For I have given unto them the words (o. rhema) which you gave me; and they have received them, and have known surely that I came out from you, and they have believed that you did send me.
17.9 C'est pour eux que je prie. Je ne prie pas pour le monde, mais pour ceux que tu m'as donnés, parce qu'ils sont à toi; -
17:9 I pray for them: I pray not for the world, but for them which you have given me; for they are yours.
17.10 et tout ce qui est à moi est à toi, et ce qui est à toi est à moi; -et je suis glorifié en eux.
17:10 And all mine are yours, and yours are mine; and I am glorified in them.
17.11 Je ne suis plus dans le monde, et ils sont dans le monde, et je vais à toi. Père saint, garde en ton nom ceux que tu m'as donnés, afin qu'ils soient un comme nous.
17:11 And now I am no more in the world, but these are in the world, and I come to you. Holy Father, keep through yours own name those whom you have given me, that they may be one, as we are.
17.12 Lorsque j'étais avec eux dans le monde, je les gardais en ton nom. J'ai gardé ceux que tu m'as donnés, et aucun d'eux ne s'est perdu, sinon le fils de perdition, afin que l'Écriture fût accomplie.
17:12 While I was with them in the world, I kept them in your name: those that you gave me I have kept, and none of them is lost, but the son of perdition; that the scripture might be fulfilled.
17.13 Et maintenant je vais à toi, et je dis ces choses dans le monde, afin qu'ils aient en eux ma joie parfaite.
17:13 And now come I to you; and these things I speak in the world, that they might have my joy fulfilled in themselves.
17.14 Je leur ai donné ta parole; et le monde les a haïs, parce qu'ils ne sont pas du monde, comme moi je ne suis pas du monde.
17:14 I have given them your word; (o. logos) and the world has hated them, because they are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.
17.15 Je ne te prie pas de les ôter du monde, mais de les préserver du mal.
17:15 I pray not that you should take them out of the world, but that you should keep them from the evil.
17.16 Ils ne sont pas du monde, comme moi je ne suis pas du monde.
17:16 They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.
17.17 Sanctifie-les par ta vérité: ta parole est la vérité.
17:17 Sanctify them through your truth: your word (o. logos) is truth.
17.18 Comme tu m'as envoyé dans le monde, je les ai aussi envoyés dans le monde.
17:18 As you have sent me into the world, even so have I also sent them into the world.
17.19 Et je me sanctifie moi-même pour eux, afin qu'eux aussi soient sanctifiés par la vérité.
17:19 And for their sakes I sanctify myself, that they also might be sanctified through the truth.
17.20 Ce n'est pas pour eux seulement que je prie, mais encore pour ceux qui croiront en moi par leur parole,
17:20 Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word; (o. logos)
17.21 afin que tous soient un, comme toi, Père, tu es en moi, et comme je suis en toi, afin qu'eux aussi soient un en nous, pour que le monde croie que tu m'as envoyé.
17:21 That they all may be one; as you, Father, are in me, and I in you, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that you have sent me.
17.22 Je leur ai donné la gloire que tu m'as donnée, afin qu'ils soient un comme nous sommes un, -
17:22 And the glory which you gave me I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one:
17.23 moi en eux, et toi en moi, -afin qu'ils soient parfaitement un, et que le monde connaisse que tu m'as envoyé et que tu les as aimés comme tu m'as aimé.
17:23 I in them, and you in me, that they may be made perfect in one; and that the world may know that you have sent me, and have loved them, as you have loved me.
17.24 Père, je veux que là où je suis ceux que tu m'as donnés soient aussi avec moi, afin qu'ils voient ma gloire, la gloire que tu m'as donnée, parce que tu m'as aimé avant la fondation du monde.
17:24 Father, I will that they also, whom you have given me, be with me where I am; that they may behold my glory, which you have given me: for you loved me before the foundation of the world.
17.25 Père juste, le monde ne t'a point connu; mais moi je t'ai connu, et ceux-ci ont connu que tu m'as envoyé.
17:25 O righteous Father, the world has not known you: but I have known you, and these have known that you have sent me.
17.26 Je leur ai fait connaître ton nom, et je le leur ferai connaître, afin que l'amour dont tu m'as aimé soit en eux, et que je sois en eux.
17:26 And I have declared unto them your name, and will declare it: that the love (o. agape) wherewith you have loved me may be in them, and I in them.
18.1 Lorsqu'il eut dit ces choses, Jésus alla avec ses disciples de l'autre côté du torrent du Cédron, où se trouvait un jardin, dans lequel il entra, lui et ses disciples.
18:1 When Jesus had spoken these words, he went forth with his disciples over the brook Cedron, where was a garden, into the which he entered, and his disciples.
18.2 Judas, qui le livrait, connaissait ce lieu, parce que Jésus et ses disciples s'y étaient souvent réunis.
18:2 And Judas also, which betrayed him, knew the place: for Jesus frequently resorted thither with his disciples.
18.3 Judas donc, ayant pris la cohorte, et des huissiers qu'envoyèrent les principaux sacrificateurs et les pharisiens, vint là avec des lanternes, des flambeaux et des armes.
18:3 Judas then, having received a band of men and officers from the chief priests and Pharisees, comes thither with lanterns and torches and weapons.
18.4 Jésus, sachant tout ce qui devait lui arriver, s'avança, et leur dit: Qui cherchez-vous?
18:4 Jesus therefore, knowing all things that should come upon him, went forth, and said unto them, Whom seek all of you?
18.5 Ils lui répondirent: Jésus de Nazareth. Jésus leur dit: C'est moi. Et Judas, qui le livrait, était avec eux.
18:5 They answered him, Jesus of Nazareth. Jesus says unto them, I am he. And Judas also, which betrayed him, stood with them.
18.6 Lorsque Jésus leur eut dit: C'est moi, ils reculèrent et tombèrent par terre.
18:6 As soon then as he had said unto them, I am he, they went backward, and fell to the ground.
18.7 Il leur demanda de nouveau: Qui cherchez-vous? Et ils dirent: Jésus de Nazareth.
18:7 Then asked he them again, Whom seek all of you? And they said, Jesus of Nazareth.
18.8 Jésus répondit: Je vous ai dit que c'est moi. Si donc c'est moi que vous cherchez, laissez aller ceux-ci.
18:8 Jesus answered, I have told you that I am he: if therefore all of you seek me, let these go their way:
18.9 Il dit cela, afin que s'accomplît la parole qu'il avait dite: Je n'ai perdu aucun de ceux que tu m'as donnés.
18:9 That the saying (o. logos) might be fulfilled, which he spoke, Of them which you gave me have I lost none.
18.10 Simon Pierre, qui avait une épée, la tira, frappa le serviteur du souverain sacrificateur, et lui coupa l'oreille droite. Ce serviteur s'appelait Malchus.
18:10 Then Simon Peter having a sword drew it, and stroke the high priest's servant, and cut off his right ear. The servant's name was Malchus.
18.11 Jésus dit à Pierre: Remets ton épée dans le fourreau. Ne boirai-je pas la coupe que le Père m'a donnée à boire?
18:11 Then said Jesus unto Peter, Put up your sword into the sheath: the cup which my Father has given me, shall I not drink it?
18.12 La cohorte, le tribun, et les huissiers des Juifs, se saisirent alors de Jésus, et le lièrent.
18:12 Then the band and the captain and officers of the Jews took Jesus, and bound him,
18.13 Ils l'emmenèrent d'abord chez Anne; car il était le beau-père de Caïphe, qui était souverain sacrificateur cette année-là.
18:13 And led him away to Annas first; for he was father in law to Caiaphas, which was the high priest that same year.
18.14 Et Caïphe était celui qui avait donné ce conseil aux Juifs: Il est avantageux qu'un seul homme meure pour le peuple.
18:14 Now Caiaphas was he, which gave counsel to the Jews, that it was expedient that one man should die for the people.
18.15 Simon Pierre, avec un autre disciple, suivait Jésus. Ce disciple était connu du souverain sacrificateur, et il entra avec Jésus dans la cour du souverain sacrificateur;
18:15 And Simon Peter followed Jesus, and so did another disciple: that disciple was known unto the high priest, and went in with Jesus into the palace of the high priest.
18.16 mais Pierre resta dehors près de la porte. L'autre disciple, qui était connu du souverain sacrificateur, sortit, parla à la portière, et fit entrer Pierre.
18:16 But Peter stood at the door without. Then went out that other disciple, which was known unto the high priest, and spoke unto her that kept the door, and brought in Peter.
18.17 Alors la servante, la portière, dit à Pierre: Toi aussi, n'es-tu pas des disciples de cet homme? Il dit: Je n'en suis point.
18:17 Then says the damsel that kept the door unto Peter, Are not you also one of this man's disciples? He says, I am not.
18.18 Les serviteurs et les huissiers, qui étaient là, avaient allumé un brasier, car il faisait froid, et ils se chauffaient. Pierre se tenait avec eux, et se chauffait.
18:18 And the servants and officers stood there, who had made a fire of coals; for it was cold: and they warmed themselves: and Peter stood with them, and warmed himself.
18.19 Le souverain sacrificateur interrogea Jésus sur ses disciples et sur sa doctrine.
18:19 The high priest then asked Jesus of his disciples, and of his doctrine.
18.20 Jésus lui répondit: J'ai parlé ouvertement au monde; j'ai toujours enseigné dans la synagogue et dans le temple, où tous les Juifs s'assemblent, et je n'ai rien dit en secret.
18:20 Jesus answered him, I spoke openly to the world; I ever taught in the synagogue, and in the temple, where the Jews always resort; and in secret have I said nothing.
18.21 Pourquoi m'interroges-tu? Interroge sur ce que je leur ai dit ceux qui m'ont entendu; voici, ceux-là savent ce que j'ai dit.
18:21 Why ask you me? ask them which heard me, what I have said unto them: behold, they know what I said.
18.22 A ces mots, un des huissiers, qui se trouvait là, donna un soufflet à Jésus, en disant: Est-ce ainsi que tu réponds au souverain sacrificateur?
18:22 And when he had thus spoken, one of the officers which stood by struck Jesus with the palm of his hand, saying, Answer you the high priest so?
18.23 Jésus lui dit: Si j'ai mal parlé, fais voir ce que j'ai dit de mal; et si j'ai bien parlé, pourquoi me frappes-tu?
18:23 Jesus answered him, If I have spoken evil, bear witness of the evil: but if well, why smite you me?
18.24 Anne l'envoya lié à Caïphe, le souverain sacrificateur.
18:24 Now Annas had sent him bound unto Caiaphas the high priest.
18.25 Simon Pierre était là, et se chauffait. On lui dit: Toi aussi, n'es-tu pas de ses disciples? Il le nia, et dit: Je n'en suis point.
18:25 And Simon Peter stood and warmed himself. They said therefore unto him, Are not you also one of his disciples? He denied it, and said, I am not.
18.26 Un des serviteurs du souverain sacrificateur, parent de celui à qui Pierre avait coupé l'oreille, dit: Ne t'ai-je pas vu avec lui dans le jardin?
18:26 One of the servants of the high priest, being his kinsman whose ear Peter cut off, says, Did not I see you in the garden with him?
18.27 Pierre le nia de nouveau. Et aussitôt le coq chanta.
18:27 Peter then denied again: and immediately the cock crew.
18.28 Ils conduisirent Jésus de chez Caïphe au prétoire: c'était le matin. Ils n'entrèrent point eux-mêmes dans le prétoire, afin de ne pas se souiller, et de pouvoir manger la Pâque.
18:28 Then led they Jesus from Caiaphas unto the hall of judgment: and it was early; and they themselves went not into the judgment hall, lest they should be defiled; but that they might eat the passover.
18.29 Pilate sortit donc pour aller à eux, et il dit: Quelle accusation portez-vous contre cet homme?
18:29 Pilate then went out unto them, and said, What accusation bring all of you against this man?
18.30 Ils lui répondirent: Si ce n'était pas un malfaiteur, nous ne te l'aurions pas livré.
18:30 They answered and said unto him, If he were not a villain, we would not have delivered him up unto you.
18.31 Sur quoi Pilate leur dit: Prenez-le vous-mêmes, et jugez-le selon votre loi. Les Juifs lui dirent: Il ne nous est pas permis de mettre personne à mort.
18:31 Then said Pilate unto them, Take all of you him, and judge him according to your law. The Jews therefore said unto him, It is not lawful for us to put any man to death:
18.32 C'était afin que s'accomplît la parole que Jésus avait dite, lorsqu'il indiqua de quelle mort il devait mourir.
18:32 That the saying (o. logos) of Jesus might be fulfilled, which he spoke, signifying what death he should die.
18.33 Pilate rentra dans le prétoire, appela Jésus, et lui dit: Es-tu le roi des Juifs?
18:33 Then Pilate entered into the judgment hall again, and called Jesus, and said unto him, Are you the King of the Jews?
18.34 Jésus répondit: Est-ce de toi-même que tu dis cela, ou d'autres te l'ont-ils dit de moi?
18:34 Jesus answered him, Says you this thing of yourself, or did others tell it you of me?
18.35 Pilate répondit: Moi, suis-je Juif? Ta nation et les principaux sacrificateurs t'ont livré à moi: qu'as-tu fait?
18:35 Pilate answered, Am I a Jew? Yours own nation and the chief priests have delivered you unto me: what have you done?
18.36 Mon royaume n'est pas de ce monde, répondit Jésus. Si mon royaume était de ce monde, mes serviteurs auraient combattu pour moi afin que je ne fusse pas livré aux Juifs; mais maintenant mon royaume n'est point d'ici-bas.
18:36 Jesus answered, My kingdom is not of this world: if my kingdom were of this world, then would my servants fight, that I should not be delivered to the Jews: but now is my kingdom not from behind.
18.37 Pilate lui dit: Tu es donc roi? Jésus répondit: Tu le dis, je suis roi. Je suis né et je suis venu dans le monde pour rendre témoignage à la vérité. Quiconque est de la vérité écoute ma voix.
18:37 Pilate therefore said unto him, Are you a king then? Jesus answered, You says that I am a king. To this end was I born, and for this cause came I into the world, that I should bear witness unto the truth. Every one that is of the truth hears my voice.
18.38 Pilate lui dit: Qu'est-ce que la vérité? Après avoir dit cela, il sortit de nouveau pour aller vers les Juifs, et il leur dit: Je ne trouve aucun crime en lui.
18:38 Pilate says unto him, What is truth? And when he had said this, he went out again unto the Jews, and says unto them, I find in him no fault at all.
18.39 Mais, comme c'est parmi vous une coutume que je vous relâche quelqu'un à la fête de Pâque, voulez-vous que je vous relâche le roi des Juifs?
18:39 But all of you have a custom, that I should release unto you one at the passover: will all of you therefore that I release unto you the King of the Jews?
18.40 Alors de nouveau tous s'écrièrent: Non pas lui, mais Barabbas. Or, Barabbas était un brigand.
18:40 Then cried they all again, saying, Not this man, but Barabbas. Now Barabbas was a robber.
19.1 Alors Pilate prit Jésus, et le fit battre de verges.
19:1 Then Pilate therefore took Jesus, and scourged him.
19.2 Les soldats tressèrent une couronne d'épines qu'ils posèrent sur sa tête, et ils le revêtirent d'un manteau de pourpre; puis, s'approchant de lui,
19:2 And the soldiers intertwined a crown of thorns, and put it on his head, and they put on him a purple robe,
19.3 ils disaient: Salut, roi des Juifs! Et ils lui donnaient des soufflets.
19:3 And said, Hail, King of the Jews! and they stroke him with their hands.
19.4 Pilate sortit de nouveau, et dit aux Juifs: Voici, je vous l'amène dehors, afin que vous sachiez que je ne trouve en lui aucun crime.
19:4 Pilate therefore went forth again, and says unto them, Behold, I bring him forth to you, that all of you may know that I find no fault in him.
19.5 Jésus sortit donc, portant la couronne d'épines et le manteau de pourpre. Et Pilate leur dit: Voici l'homme.
19:5 Then came Jesus forth, wearing the crown of thorns, and the purple robe. And Pilate says unto them, Behold the man!

19.7 Les Juifs lui répondirent: Nous avons une loi; et, selon notre loi, il doit mourir, parce qu'il s'est fait Fils de Dieu.
19:7 The Jews answered him, We have a law, and by our law he ought to die, because he made himself the Son of God.
19.8 Quand Pilate entendit cette parole, sa frayeur augmenta.
19:8 When Pilate therefore heard that saying, (o. logos) he was the more afraid;
19.9 Il rentra dans le prétoire, et il dit à Jésus: D'où es-tu? Mais Jésus ne lui donna point de réponse.
19:9 And went again into the judgment hall, and says unto Jesus, Whence are you? But Jesus gave him no answer.
19.10 Pilate lui dit: Est-ce à moi que tu ne parles pas? Ne sais-tu pas que j'ai le pouvoir de te crucifier, et que j'ai le pouvoir de te relâcher?
19:10 Then says Pilate unto him, Speak you not unto me? know you not that I have power to crucify you, and have power to release you?
19.11 Jésus répondit: Tu n'aurais sur moi aucun pouvoir, s'il ne t'avait été donné d'en haut. C'est pourquoi celui qui me livre à toi commet un plus grand péché.
19:11 Jesus answered, You could have no power at all against me, except it were given you from above: therefore he that delivered me unto you has the greater sin.
19.12 Dès ce moment, Pilate cherchait à le relâcher. Mais les Juifs criaient: Si tu le relâches, tu n'es pas ami de César. Quiconque se fait roi se déclare contre César.
19:12 And from thenceforth Pilate sought to release him: but the Jews cried out, saying, If you let this man go, you are not Caesar's friend: whosoever makes himself a king speaks against Caesar.
19.13 Pilate, ayant entendu ces paroles, amena Jésus dehors; et il s'assit sur le tribunal, au lieu appelé le Pavé, et en hébreu Gabbatha.
19:13 When Pilate therefore heard that saying, (o. logos) he brought Jesus forth, and sat down in the judgment seat in a place that is called the Pavement, but in the Hebrew, Gabbatha.
19.14 C'était la préparation de la Pâque, et environ la sixième heure. Pilate dit aux Juifs: Voici votre roi.
19:14 And it was the preparation of the passover, and about the sixth hour: and he says unto the Jews, Behold your King!
19.15 Mais ils s'écrièrent: Ote, ôte, crucifie-le! Pilate leur dit: Crucifierai-je votre roi? Les principaux sacrificateurs répondirent: Nous n'avons de roi que César.
19:15 But they cried out, Away with him, away with him, crucify him. Pilate says unto them, Shall I crucify your King? The chief priests answered, We have no king but Caesar.
19.16 Alors il le leur livra pour être crucifié. Ils prirent donc Jésus, et l'emmenèrent.
19:16 Then delivered he him therefore unto them to be crucified. And they took Jesus, and led him away.
19.17 Jésus, portant sa croix, arriva au lieu du crâne, qui se nomme en hébreu Golgotha.
19:17 And he bearing his cross went forth into a place called the place of a skull, which is called in the Hebrew Golgotha:
19.18 C'est là qu'il fut crucifié, et deux autres avec lui, un de chaque côté, et Jésus au milieu.
19:18 Where they crucified him, and two other with him, on either side one, and Jesus in the midst.
19.19 Pilate fit une inscription, qu'il plaça sur la croix, et qui était ainsi conçue: Jésus de Nazareth, roi des Juifs.
19:19 And Pilate wrote a title, and put it on the cross. And the writing was JESUS OF NAZARETH THE KING OF THE JEWS.
19.20 Beaucoup de Juifs lurent cette inscription, parce que le lieu où Jésus fut crucifié était près de la ville: elle était en hébreu, en grec et en latin.
19:20 This title then read many of the Jews: for the place where Jesus was crucified was nigh to the city: and it was written in Hebrew, and Greek, and Latin.
19.21 Les principaux sacrificateurs des Juifs dirent à Pilate: N'écris pas: Roi des Juifs. Mais écris qu'il a dit: Je suis roi des Juifs.
19:21 Then said the chief priests of the Jews to Pilate, Write not, The King of the Jews; but that he said, I am King of the Jews.
19.22 Pilate répondit: Ce que j'ai écrit, je l'ai écrit.
19:22 Pilate answered, What I have written I have written.
19.23 Les soldats, après avoir crucifié Jésus, prirent ses vêtements, et ils en firent quatre parts, une part pour chaque soldat. Ils prirent aussi sa tunique, qui était sans couture, d'un seul tissu depuis le haut jusqu'en bas. Et ils dirent entre eux:
19:23 Then the soldiers, when they had crucified Jesus, took his garments, and made four parts, to every soldier a part; and also his coat: now the coat was without seam, woven from the top throughout.
19.24 Ne la déchirons pas, mais tirons au sort à qui elle sera. Cela arriva afin que s'accomplît cette parole de l'Écriture: Ils se sont partagé mes vêtements, Et ils ont tiré au sort ma tunique. Voilà ce que firent les soldats.
19:24 They said therefore among themselves, Let us not rend it, but cast lots for it, whose it shall be: that the scripture might be fulfilled, which says, They parted my raiment among them, and for my vesture they did cast lots. These things therefore the soldiers did.
19.25 Près de la croix de Jésus se tenaient sa mère et la soeur de sa mère, Marie, femme de Clopas, et Marie de Magdala.
19:25 Now there stood by the cross of Jesus his mother, and his mother's sister, Mary the wife of Cleophas, and Mary Magdalene.
19.26 Jésus, voyant sa mère, et auprès d'elle le disciple qu'il aimait, dit à sa mère: Femme, voilà ton fils.
19:26 When Jesus therefore saw his mother, and the disciple standing by, whom he loved, he says unto his mother, Woman, behold your son!
19.27 Puis il dit au disciple: Voilà ta mère. Et, dès ce moment, le disciple la prit chez lui.
19:27 Then says he to the disciple, Behold your mother! And from that hour that disciple took her unto his own home.
19.28 Après cela, Jésus, qui savait que tout était déjà consommé, dit, afin que l'Écriture fût accomplie: J'ai soif.
19:28 After this, Jesus knowing that all things were now accomplished, that the scripture might be fulfilled, says, I thirst.
19.29 Il y avait là un vase plein de vinaigre. Les soldats en remplirent une éponge, et, l'ayant fixée à une branche d'hysope, ils l'approchèrent de sa bouche.
19:29 Now there was set a vessel full of vinegar: and they filled a sponge with vinegar, and put it upon hyssop, and put it to his mouth.
19.30 Quand Jésus eut pris le vinaigre, il dit: Tout est accompli. Et, baissant la tête, il rendit l'esprit.
19:30 When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the spirit. (o. pneuma)
19.31 Dans la crainte que les corps ne restassent sur la croix pendant le sabbat, -car c'était la préparation, et ce jour de sabbat était un grand jour, -les Juifs demandèrent à Pilate qu'on rompît les jambes aux crucifiés, et qu'on les enlevât.
19:31 The Jews therefore, because it was the preparation, that the bodies should not remain upon the cross on the sabbath day, (for that sabbath day was an high day,) besought Pilate that their legs might be broken, and that they might be taken away.
19.32 Les soldats vinrent donc, et ils rompirent les jambes au premier, puis à l'autre qui avait été crucifié avec lui.
19:32 Then came the soldiers, and brake the legs of the first, and of the other which was crucified with him.
19.33 S'étant approchés de Jésus, et le voyant déjà mort, ils ne lui rompirent pas les jambes;
19:33 But when they came to Jesus, and saw that he was dead already, they brake not his legs:
19.34 mais un des soldats lui perça le côté avec une lance, et aussitôt il sortit du sang et de l'eau.
19:34 But one of the soldiers with a spear pierced his side, and forthwith came there out blood and water.
19.35 Celui qui l'a vu en a rendu témoignage, et son témoignage est vrai; et il sait qu'il dit vrai, afin que vous croyiez aussi.
19:35 And he that saw it bare record, and his record is true: and he knows that he says true, that all of you might believe.
19.36 Ces choses sont arrivées, afin que l'Écriture fût accomplie: Aucun de ses os ne sera brisé.
19:36 For these things were done, that the scripture should be fulfilled, A bone of him shall not be broken.
19.37 Et ailleurs l'Écriture dit encore: Ils verront celui qu'ils ont percé.
19:37 And again another scripture says, They shall look on him whom they pierced.
19.38 Après cela, Joseph d'Arimathée, qui était disciple de Jésus, mais en secret par crainte des Juifs, demanda à Pilate la permission de prendre le corps de Jésus. Et Pilate le permit. Il vint donc, et prit le corps de Jésus.
19:38 And after this Joseph of Arimathaea, being a disciple of Jesus, but secretly for fear of the Jews, besought Pilate that he might take away the body of Jesus: and Pilate gave him leave. He came therefore, and took the body of Jesus.
19.39 Nicodème, qui auparavant était allé de nuit vers Jésus, vint aussi, apportant un mélange d'environ cent livres de myrrhe et d'aloès.
19:39 And there came also Nicodemus, which at the first came to Jesus by night, and brought a mixture of myrrh and aloes, about an hundred pound weight.
19.40 Ils prirent donc le corps de Jésus, et l'enveloppèrent de bandes, avec les aromates, comme c'est la coutume d'ensevelir chez les Juifs.
19:40 Then took they the body of Jesus, and wound it in linen clothes with the spices, as the manner of the Jews is to bury.
19.41 Or, il y avait un jardin dans le lieu où Jésus avait été crucifié, et dans le jardin un sépulcre neuf, où personne encore n'avait été mis.
19:41 Now in the place where he was crucified there was a garden; and in the garden a new tomb, wherein was never man yet laid.
19.42 Ce fut là qu'ils déposèrent Jésus, à cause de la préparation des Juifs, parce que le sépulcre était proche.
19:42 There laid they Jesus therefore because of the Jews' preparation day; for the tomb was nigh at hand.
20.1 Le premier jour de la semaine, Marie de Magdala se rendit au sépulcre dès le matin, comme il faisait encore obscur; et elle vit que la pierre était ôtée du sépulcre.
20:1 The first day of the week comes Mary Magdalene early, when it was yet dark, unto the tomb, and sees the stone taken away from the tomb.
20.2 Elle courut vers Simon Pierre et vers l'autre disciple que Jésus aimait, et leur dit: Ils ont enlevé du sépulcre le Seigneur, et nous ne savons où ils l'ont mis.
20:2 Then she runs, and comes to Simon Peter, and to the other disciple, whom Jesus loved, and says unto them, They have taken away the LORD out of the tomb, and we know not where they have laid him.
20.3 Pierre et l'autre disciple sortirent, et allèrent au sépulcre.
20:3 Peter therefore went forth, and that other disciple, and came to the tomb.
20.4 Ils couraient tous deux ensemble. Mais l'autre disciple courut plus vite que Pierre, et arriva le premier au sépulcre;
20:4 So they ran both together: and the other disciple did outrun Peter, and came first to the tomb.
20.5 s'étant baissé, il vit les bandes qui étaient à terre, cependant il n'entra pas.
20:5 And he stooping down, and looking in, saw the linen clothes lying; yet went he not in.
20.6 Simon Pierre, qui le suivait, arriva et entra dans le sépulcre; il vit les bandes qui étaient à terre,
20:6 Then comes Simon Peter following him, and went into the tomb, and sees the linen clothes lie,
20.7 et le linge qu'on avait mis sur la tête de Jésus, non pas avec les bandes, mais plié dans un lieu à part.
20:7 And the cloth, that was about his head, not lying with the linen clothes, but wrapped together in a place by itself.
20.8 Alors l'autre disciple, qui était arrivé le premier au sépulcre, entra aussi; et il vit, et il crut.
20:8 Then went in also that other disciple, which came first to the tomb, and he saw, and believed.
20.9 Car ils ne comprenaient pas encore que, selon l'Écriture, Jésus devait ressusciter des morts.
20:9 For as yet they knew not the scripture, that he must rise again from the dead.
20.10 Et les disciples s'en retournèrent chez eux.
20:10 Then the disciples went away again unto their own home.
20.11 Cependant Marie se tenait dehors près du sépulcre, et pleurait. Comme elle pleurait, elle se baissa pour regarder dans le sépulcre;
20:11 But Mary stood without at the tomb weeping: and as she wept, she stooped down, and looked into the tomb,
20.12 et elle vit deux anges vêtus de blanc, assis à la place où avait été couché le corps de Jésus, l'un à la tête, l'autre aux pieds.
20:12 And sees two angels in white sitting, the one at the head, and the other at the feet, where the body of Jesus had lain.
20.13 Ils lui dirent: Femme, pourquoi pleures-tu? Elle leur répondit: Parce qu'ils ont enlevé mon Seigneur, et je ne sais où ils l'ont mis.
20:13 And they say unto her, Woman, why weep you? She says unto them, Because they have taken away my LORD, and I know not where they have laid him.
20.14 En disant cela, elle se retourna, et elle vit Jésus debout; mais elle ne savait pas que c'était Jésus.
20:14 And when she had thus said, she turned herself back, and saw Jesus standing, and knew not that it was Jesus.
20.15 Jésus lui dit: Femme, pourquoi pleures-tu? Qui cherches-tu? Elle, pensant que c'était le jardinier, lui dit: Seigneur, si c'est toi qui l'as emporté, dis-moi où tu l'as mis, et je le prendrai.
20:15 Jesus says unto her, Woman, why weep you? whom seek you? She, supposing him to be the gardener, says unto him, Sir, if you have borne him behind, tell me where you have laid him, and I will take him away.
20.16 Jésus lui dit: Marie! Elle se retourna, et lui dit en hébreu: Rabbouni! c'est-à-dire, Maître!
20:16 Jesus says unto her, Mary. She turned herself, and says unto him, Rabboni; which is to say, Master.
20.17 Jésus lui dit: Ne me touche pas; car je ne suis pas encore monté vers mon Père. Mais va trouver mes frères, et dis-leur que je monte vers mon Père et votre Père, vers mon Dieu et votre Dieu.
20:17 Jesus says unto her, Touch me not; for I am not yet ascended to my Father: but go to my brethren, and say unto them, I ascend unto my Father, and your Father; and to my God, and your God.
20.18 Marie de Magdala alla annoncer aux disciples qu'elle avait vu le Seigneur, et qu'il lui avait dit ces choses.
20:18 Mary Magdalene came and told the disciples that she had seen the LORD, and that he had spoken these things unto her.
20.19 Le soir de ce jour, qui était le premier de la semaine, les portes du lieu où se trouvaient les disciples étant fermées, à cause de la crainte qu'ils avaient des Juifs, Jésus vint, se présenta au milieu d'eux, et leur dit: La paix soit avec vous!
20:19 Then the same day at evening, being the first day of the week, when the doors were shut where the disciples were assembled for fear of the Jews, came Jesus and stood in the midst, and says unto them, Peace be unto you.
20.20 Et quand il eut dit cela, il leur montra ses mains et son côté. Les disciples furent dans la joie en voyant le Seigneur.
20:20 And when he had so said, he showed unto them his hands and his side. Then were the disciples glad, when they saw the LORD.
20.21 Jésus leur dit de nouveau: La paix soit avec vous! Comme le Père m'a envoyé, moi aussi je vous envoie.
20:21 Then said Jesus to them again, Peace be unto you: as my Father has sent me, even so send I you.
20.22 Après ces paroles, il souffla sur eux, et leur dit: Recevez le Saint Esprit.
20:22 And when he had said this, he breathed on them, and says unto them, Receive all of you the Holy Spirit: (o. pneuma)
20.23 Ceux à qui vous pardonnerez les péchés, ils leur seront pardonnés; et ceux à qui vous les retiendrez, ils leur seront retenus.
20:23 Whomsoever sins all of you remit, they are remitted unto them; and whomsoever sins all of you retain, they are retained.
20.24 Thomas, appelé Didyme, l'un des douze, n'était pas avec eux lorsque Jésus vint.
20:24 But Thomas, one of the twelve, called Didymus, was not with them when Jesus came.
20.25 Les autres disciples lui dirent donc: Nous avons vu le Seigneur. Mais il leur dit: Si je ne vois dans ses mains la marque des clous, et si je ne mets mon doigt dans la marque des clous, et si je ne mets ma main dans son côté, je ne croirai point.
20:25 The other disciples therefore said unto him, We have seen the LORD. But he said unto them, Except I shall see in his hands the print of the nails, and put my finger into the print of the nails, and thrust my hand into his side, I will not believe.
20.26 Huit jours après, les disciples de Jésus étaient de nouveau dans la maison, et Thomas se trouvait avec eux. Jésus vint, les portes étant fermées, se présenta au milieu d'eux, et dit: La paix soit avec vous!
20:26 And after eight days again his disciples were within, and Thomas with them: then came Jesus, the doors being shut, and stood in the midst, and said, Peace be unto you.
20.27 Puis il dit à Thomas: Avance ici ton doigt, et regarde mes mains; avance aussi ta main, et mets-la dans mon côté; et ne sois pas incrédule, mais crois.
20:27 Then says he to Thomas, Reach here your finger, and behold my hands; and reach here your hand, and thrust it into my side: and be not faithless, but believing.
20.28 Thomas lui répondit: Mon Seigneur et mon Dieu! Jésus lui dit:
20:28 And Thomas answered and said unto him, My LORD and my God.
20.29 Parce que tu m'as vu, tu as cru. Heureux ceux qui n'ont pas vu, et qui ont cru!
20:29 Jesus says unto him, Thomas, because you have seen me, you have believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed.
20.30 Jésus a fait encore, en présence de ses disciples, beaucoup d'autres miracles, qui ne sont pas écrits dans ce livre.
20:30 And many other signs truly did Jesus in the presence of his disciples, which are not written in this book:
20.31 Mais ces choses ont été écrites afin que vous croyiez que Jésus est le Christ, le Fils de Dieu, et qu'en croyant vous ayez la vie en son nom.
20:31 But these are written, that all of you might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing all of you might have life through his name.
21.1 Après cela, Jésus se montra encore aux disciples, sur les bords de la mer de Tibériade. Et voici de quelle manière il se montra.
21:1 After these things Jesus showed himself again to the disciples at the sea of Tiberias; and likewise showed he himself.
21.2 Simon Pierre, Thomas, appelé Didyme, Nathanaël, de Cana en Galilée, les fils de Zébédée, et deux autres disciples de Jésus, étaient ensemble.
21:2 There were together Simon Peter, and Thomas called Didymus, and Nathanael of Cana in Galilee, and the sons of Zebedee, and two other of his disciples.
21.3 Simon Pierre leur dit: Je vais pêcher. Ils lui dirent: Nous allons aussi avec toi. Ils sortirent et montèrent dans une barque, et cette nuit-là ils ne prirent rien.
21:3 Simon Peter says unto them, I go a fishing. They say unto him, We also go with you. They went forth, and entered into a ship immediately; and that night they caught nothing.
21.4 Le matin étant venu, Jésus se trouva sur le rivage; mais les disciples ne savaient pas que c'était Jésus.
21:4 But when the morning was now come, Jesus stood on the shore: but the disciples knew not that it was Jesus.
21.5 Jésus leur dit: Enfants, n'avez-vous rien à manger? Ils lui répondirent: Non.
21:5 Then Jesus says unto them, Children, have all of you any food? They answered him, No.
21.6 Il leur dit: Jetez le filet du côté droit de la barque, et vous trouverez. Ils le jetèrent donc, et ils ne pouvaient plus le retirer, à cause de la grande quantité de poissons.
21:6 And he said unto them, Cast the net on the right side of the ship, and all of you shall find. They cast therefore, and now they were not able to draw it for the multitude of fishes.
21.7 Alors le disciple que Jésus aimait dit à Pierre: C'est le Seigneur! Et Simon Pierre, dès qu'il eut entendu que c'était le Seigneur, mit son vêtement et sa ceinture, car il était nu, et se jeta dans la mer.
21:7 Therefore that disciple whom Jesus loved says unto Peter, It is the Lord. Now when Simon Peter heard that it was the Lord, he girt his fisher's coat unto him, (for he was naked,) and did cast himself into the sea.
21.8 Les autres disciples vinrent avec la barque, tirant le filet plein de poissons, car ils n'étaient éloignés de terre que d'environ deux cents coudées.
21:8 And the other disciples came in a little ship; (for they were not far from land, but as it were two hundred cubits,) dragging the net with fishes.
21.9 Lorsqu'ils furent descendus à terre, ils virent là des charbons allumés, du poisson dessus, et du pain.
21:9 As soon then as they were come to land, they saw a fire of coals there, and fish laid thereon, and bread.
21.10 Jésus leur dit: Apportez des poissons que vous venez de prendre.
21:10 Jesus says unto them, Bring of the fish which all of you have now caught.
21.11 Simon Pierre monta dans la barque, et tira à terre le filet plein de cent cinquante-trois grands poissons; et quoiqu'il y en eût tant, le filet ne se rompit point.
21:11 Simon Peter went up, and drew the net to land full of great fishes, an hundred and fifty and three: and for all there were so many, yet was not the net broken.
21.12 Jésus leur dit: Venez, mangez. Et aucun des disciples n'osait lui demander: Qui es-tu? sachant que c'était le Seigneur.
21:12 Jesus says unto them, Come and dine. And none of the disciples durst ask him, Who are you? knowing that it was the Lord.
21.13 Jésus s'approcha, prit le pain, et leur en donna; il fit de même du poisson.
21:13 Jesus then comes, and takes bread, and gives them, and fish likewise.
21.14 C'était déjà la troisième fois que Jésus se montrait à ses disciples depuis qu'il était ressuscité des morts.
21:14 This is now the third time that Jesus showed himself to his disciples, after that he was risen from the dead.
21.15 Après qu'ils eurent mangé, Jésus dit à Simon Pierre: Simon, fils de Jonas, m'aimes-tu plus que ne m'aiment ceux-ci? Il lui répondit: Oui, Seigneur, tu sais que je t'aime. Jésus lui dit: Pais mes agneaux.
21:15 So when they had dined, Jesus says to Simon Peter, Simon, son of Jonas, love you me more than these? He says unto him, Yea, Lord; you know that I love you. He says unto him, Feed my lambs.
21.16 Il lui dit une seconde fois: Simon, fils de Jonas, m'aimes-tu? Pierre lui répondit: Oui, Seigneur, tu sais que je t'aime. Jésus lui dit: Pais mes brebis.
21:16 He says to him again the second time, Simon, son of Jonas, love you me? He says unto him, Yea, Lord; you know that I love you. He says unto him, Feed my sheep.
21.17 Il lui dit pour la troisième fois: Simon, fils de Jonas, m'aimes-tu? Pierre fut attristé de ce qu'il lui avait dit pour la troisième fois: M'aimes-tu? Et il lui répondit: Seigneur, tu sais toutes choses, tu sais que je t'aime. Jésus lui dit: Pais mes brebis.
21:17 He says unto him the third time, Simon, son of Jonas, love you me? Peter was grieved because he said unto him the third time, Love you me? And he said unto him, Lord, you know all things; you know that I love you. Jesus says unto him, Feed my sheep.
21.18 En vérité, en vérité, je te le dis, quand tu étais plus jeune, tu te ceignais toi-même, et tu allais où tu voulais; mais quand tu seras vieux, tu étendras tes mains, et un autre te ceindra, et te mènera où tu ne voudras pas.
21:18 Verily, verily, I say unto you, When you were young, you gird yourself, and walked where you would: but when you shall be old, you shall stretch forth your hands, and another shall gird you, and carry you where you would not.
21.19 Il dit cela pour indiquer par quelle mort Pierre glorifierait Dieu. Et ayant ainsi parlé, il lui dit: Suis-moi.
21:19 This spoke he, signifying by what death he should glorify God. And when he had spoken this, he says unto him, Follow me.
21.20 Pierre, s'étant retourné, vit venir après eux le disciple que Jésus aimait, celui qui, pendant le souper, s'était penché sur la poitrine de Jésus, et avait dit: Seigneur, qui est celui qui te livre?
21:20 Then Peter, turning about, sees the disciple whom Jesus loved following; which also leaned on his breast at supper, and said, Lord, which is he that betrays you?
21.21 En le voyant, Pierre dit à Jésus: Et celui-ci, Seigneur, que lui arrivera-t-il?
21:21 Peter seeing him says to Jesus, Lord, and what shall this man do?
21.22 Jésus lui dit: Si je veux qu'il demeure jusqu'à ce que je vienne, que t'importe? Toi, suis-moi.
21:22 Jesus says unto him, If I will that he tarry till I come, what is that to you? follow you me.
21.23 Là-dessus, le bruit courut parmi les frères que ce disciple ne mourrait point. Cependant Jésus n'avait pas dit à Pierre qu'il ne mourrait point; mais: Si je veux qu'il demeure jusqu'à ce que je vienne, que t'importe?
21:23 Then went this saying (o. logos) abroad among the brethren, that that disciple should not die: yet Jesus said not unto him, He shall not die; but, If I will that he tarry till I come, what is that to you?
21.24 C'est ce disciple qui rend témoignage de ces choses, et qui les a écrites. Et nous savons que son témoignage est vrai.
21:24 This is the disciple which testifies of these things, and wrote these things: and we know that his testimony is true.
21.25 Jésus a fait encore beaucoup d'autres choses; si on les écrivait en détail, je ne pense pas que le monde même pût contenir les livres qu'on écrirait.
21:25 And there are also many other things which Jesus did, the which, if they should be written every one, I suppose that even the world itself could not contain the books that should be written. Amen.
