Galatians / ガラテア人への手紙 第一章
1:1 人々からでもなく、人によってでもなく、イエス・キリストと彼を死人の中からよみがえらせた父なる神とによって立てられた使徒パウロ、
1:1 Paul, an apostle, (not of men, neither by man, but by Jesus Christ, and God the Father, who raised him from the dead;)
1:2 ならびにわたしと共にいる兄弟たち一同から、ガラテアの諸教会へ。
1:2 And all the brethren which are with me, unto the churches of Galatia:
1:3 わたしたちの父なる神と主イエス・キリストから、恵みと平安とが、あなたがたにあるように。
1:3 Grace be to you and peace from God the Father, and from our Lord Jesus Christ,
1:4 キリストは、わたしたちの父なる神のみ旨に従い、わたしたちの罪のためにささげられたのである。
1:4 Who gave himself for our sins, that he might deliver us from this present evil world, according to the will of God and our Father:
1:5 栄光が世々限りなく神にあるように、アァメン。
1:5 To whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.
1:6 あなたがたがこんなにも早く、あなたがたをキリストの恵みの内へお招きになったかたから離れて、違った福音に落ちていくことが、わたしには不思議でならない。
1:6 I marvel that all of you are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel:
1:7 それは福音というべきものではなく、ただ、ある種の人々があなたがたをかき乱し、キリストの福音を曲げようとしているだけのことである。
1:7 Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ.
1:8 しかし、たといわたしたちであろうと、天からの御使であろうと、わたしたちが宣べ伝えた福音に反することをあなたがたに宣べ伝えるなら、その人はのろわれるべきである。
1:8 But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.
1:9 わたしたちが前に言っておいたように、今わたしは重ねて言う。もしある人が、あなたがたの受けいれた福音に反することを宣べ伝えているなら、その人はのろわれるべきである。
1:9 As we said before, so say I now again, if any man preach any other gospel unto you than that all of you have received, let him be accursed.
1:10 今わたしは、人に喜ばれようとしているのか、それとも、神に喜ばれようとしているのか。あるいは、人の歓心を買おうと努めているのか。もし、今もなお人の歓心を買おうとしているとすれば、わたしはキリストの僕ではあるまい。
1:10 For do I now persuade men, or God? or do I seek to please men? for if I yet pleased men, I should not be the servant of Christ.
1:11 兄弟たちよ。あなたがたに、はっきり言っておく。わたしが宣べ伝えた福音は人間によるものではない。
1:11 But I certify you, brethren, that the gospel which was preached of me is not after man.
1:12 わたしは、それを人間から受けたもので教えられたのでもなく、ただイエス・キリストの啓示によったのである。
1:12 For I neither received it of man, neither was I taught it, but by the revelation of Jesus Christ.
1:13 ユダヤ教を信じていたころのわたしの行動については、あなたがたはすでによく聞いている。すなわち、わたしは激しく神の教会を迫害し、また荒らしまわっていた。
1:13 For all of you have heard of my conversation in time past in the Jews' religion, how that beyond measure I persecuted the church of God, and wasted it:
1:14 そして、同国人の中でわたしと同年輩の多くの者にまさってユダヤ教に精進し、先祖たちの言伝えに対して、たれよりもはるかに熱心であった。
1:14 And profited in the Jews' religion above many my equals in mine own nation, being more exceedingly zealous of the traditions of my fathers.
1:15 ところが、母の胎内にある時からわたしを聖別し、み恵みをもってわたしをお召しになったかたが、
1:15 But when it pleased God, who separated me from my mother's womb, and called me by his grace,
1:16 異邦人の間に宣べ伝えさせるために、御子をわたしの内に啓示して下さった時、わたしは直ちに、血肉に相談もせず、
1:16 To reveal his Son in me, that I might preach him among the heathen; immediately I conferred not with flesh and blood:
1:17 また先輩の使徒たちに会うためにエルサレムにも上らず、アラビアに出て行った。それから再びダマスコに帰った。
1:17 Neither went I up to Jerusalem to them which were apostles before me; but I went into Arabia, and returned again unto Damascus.
1:18 その後三年たってから、わたしはケパをたずねてエルサレムに上り、彼のもとに十五日間、滞在した。しかし、
1:18 Then after three years I went up to Jerusalem to see Peter, and abode with him fifteen days.
1:19 主の兄弟ヤコブ以外には、ほかのどの使徒にも会わなかった。
1:19 But other of the apostles saw I none, save James the Lord's brother.
1:20 ここに書いていることは、神のみまえで言うが、決して偽りではない。
1:20 Now the things which I write unto you, behold, before God, I lie not.
1:21 その後、わたしはシリヤとキリキヤとの地方に行った。
1:21 Afterwards I came into the regions of Syria and Cilicia;
1:22 しかし、キリストにあるユダヤの諸教会には、顔を知れていなかった。
1:22 And was unknown by face unto the churches of Judaea which were in Christ:
1:23 ただ彼らは、「かつて自分たちを迫害した者が、以前には撲滅しようとしていたその信仰を、今は宣べ伝えている」と聞き、
1:23 But they had heard only, That he which persecuted us in times past now preaches the faith which once he destroyed.
1:24 わたしのことで、神をほめたたえた。
1:24 And they glorified God in me.
2:1 その後十四年たってから、わたしはバルナバと一緒に、テトスをも連れて、再びエルサレムに上った。
2:1 Then fourteen years after I went up again to Jerusalem with Barnabas, and took Titus with me also.
2:2 そこに上ったのは、啓示によってである。そして、わたしが異邦人の間に宣べ伝えている福音を、人人に示し、「重だった人たち」には個人的に示した。それは、わたしが現に走っており、またすでに走ってきたことが、むだにならないためである。
2:2 And I went up by revelation, and communicated unto them that gospel which I preach among the Gentiles, but privately to them which were of reputation, lest by any means I should run, or had run, in vain.
2:3 しかし、わたしが連れていたテトスでさえ、ギリシャ人であったのに、割礼をしいられなかった。
2:3 But neither Titus, who was with me, being a Greek, was compelled to be circumcised:
2:4 それは、忍び込んできたにせ兄弟らがいたのでーー彼らが忍び込んできたのは、キリスト・イエスにあって持っているわたしたちの自由をねらって、わたしたちを奴隷にするためであった。
2:4 And that because of false brethren unexpectedly brought in, who came in privately to spy out our liberty which we have in Christ Jesus, that they might bring us into bondage:
2:5 わたしたちは、福音の真理があなたがたのもとに常にとどまっているように、瞬時も彼らの強要に屈服しなかった。
2:5 To whom we gave place by subjection, no, not for an hour; that the truth of the gospel might continue with you.
2:6 そして、かの「重もだつた人たち」からはーー彼らがどんな人であったにしても、それは、わたしには全く問題ではない。神は人を分け隔てなさらないのだからーー事実、かの「重だった人たち」は、わたしに何も加えることをしなかった。
2:6 But of these who seemed to be somewhat, (whatsoever they were, it makes no matter to me: God accepts no man's person:) for they who seemed to be somewhat in conference added nothing to me:
2:7 それどころか、彼らは、ペテロが割礼の者への福音をゆだねられているように、わたしには無割礼の者への福音がゆだねられていることを認め、
2:7 But contrariwise, when they saw that the gospel of the uncircumcision was committed unto me, as the gospel of the circumcision was unto Peter;
2:8 （というのは、ペテロに働きかけて割礼の者への使徒の努めにつかせたかたは、わたしに働きかけて、異邦人につかわして下さったからである）、
2:8 (For he that wrought effectually in Peter to the apostleship of the circumcision, the same was mighty in me toward the Gentiles:)
2:9 かつ、わたしに賜った恵みを知って、柱として重んじられているヤコブとケパとヨハネとは、わたしとバルナバとに、交わりの手を差し伸べた。そこで、わたしたちは異邦人に行き、彼らは割礼の者に行くことになったのである。
2:9 And when James, Cephas, and John, who seemed to be pillars, perceived the grace that was given unto me, they gave to me and Barnabas the right hands of fellowship; that we should go unto the heathen, and they unto the circumcision.
2:10 ただ一つ、わたしたちが貧しい人々をかえりみるようにとのことであったが、わたしはもとより、この事のためにも大いに努めてきたのである。
2:10 Only they would that we should remember the poor; the same which I also was forward to do.
2:11 ところが、ケパがアンテオケにきたとき、彼に非難すべきことがあったので、わたしは面とむかって彼をなじった。
2:11 But when Peter was come to Antioch, I withstood him to the face, because he was to be blamed.
2:12 というのは、ヤコブのもとからある人々が来るまでは、彼は異邦人と食を共にしていたのに、彼らがきてからは、割礼の者どもを恐れ、しだいに身を引いて離れて行ったからである。
2:12 For before that certain came from James, he did eat with the Gentiles: but when they were come, he withdrew and separated himself, fearing them which were of the circumcision.
2:13 そして、ほかのユダヤ人たちも彼と共に偽善者の行為をし、バルナバまでがそのような偽善に引きずり込まれた。
2:13 And the other Jews dissembled likewise with him; insomuch that Barnabas also was carried away with their dissimulation.
2:14 彼らが福音の真理に従ってまっすぐ歩いていないのを見て、わたしは衆人の面前でケパに言った、「あなたは、ユダヤ人であるのに、自分自身はユダヤ人のように生活しないで、異邦人のように生活していながら、どうして異邦人にユダヤ人のようになることをしいるのか」。
2:14 But when I saw that they walked not uprightly according to the truth of the gospel, I said unto Peter before them all, If you, being a Jew, live after the manner of Gentiles, and not as do the Jews, why compell you the Gentiles to live as do the Jews?
2:15 わたしたちは生まれながらのユダヤ人であって、異邦人なる罪人ではないが、
2:15 We who are Jews by nature, and not sinners of the Gentiles,
2:16 人の義とされるのは律法の行いによるのではなく、ただキリスト・イエスを信じる信仰によることを認めて、わたしたちもキリスト・イエスを信じたのである。それは、律法の行いによるのではなく、キリストを信じる信仰によって義とされるためである。なぜなら、律法の行いによっては、だれひとり義とされることがないからである。
2:16 Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified.
2:17 しかし、キリストにあって義とされることを求めることによって、わたしたち自身が罪人であるとされるなら、キリストは罪に仕える者なのであろうか。断じてそうではない。
2:17 But if, while we seek to be justified by Christ, we ourselves also are found sinners, is therefore Christ the minister of sin? God forbid.
2:18 もしわたしが、いったん打ちこわしたものを、再び建てるとすれば、それこそ、自分が違反者であることを表明することになる。
2:18 For if I build again the things which I destroyed, I make myself a transgressor.
2:19 わたしは、神に生きるために、律法によって律法に死んだ。わたしはキリストによって共に十字架につけられた。
2:19 For I through the law am dead to the law, that I might live unto God.
2:20 生きているのは、もはや、わたしではない。キリストが、わたしたちのうちに生きておられるのである。しかし、わたしがいま肉にあって生きているのは、わたしを愛し、わたしのためにご自身をささげられた神の御子を信じる信仰によって、生きているのである。
2:20 I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ lives in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.
2:21 わたしは、神の恵みを無にはしない。もし、義が律法によって得られるとすれば、キリストの死はむだであったことになる。
2:21 I do not frustrate the grace of God: for if righteousness come by the law, then Christ is dead in vain.
3:1 ああ、物わかりのわるいガラテヤ人よ。十字架につけられたイエス・キリストが、あなたがたの目の前に描き出されたのに、いったい、だれがあなたがたを惑わしたのか。
3:1 O foolish Galatians, who has bewitched you, that all of you should not obey the truth, before whose eyes Jesus Christ has been evidently set forth, crucified among you?
3:2 わたしは、ただこの一つの事を、あなたがたに聞いてみたい。あなたがたが御霊を受けいれたのは、律法を行ったからか、それとも、聞いて信じたからか。
3:2 This only would I learn of you, Received all of you the Spirit (o. pneuma) by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith?
3:3 あなたがたは、そのな物わかりがわるいのか。御霊で始めたのに、今になって肉で仕上げるというのか。
3:3 Are all of you so foolish? having begun in the Spirit, (o. pneuma) are all of you now made perfect by the flesh?
3:4 あれほどの大きな経験をしたことは、むだであったのか。まさか、むだではあるまい。
3:4 Have all of you suffered so many things in vain? if it be yet in vain.
3:5 すると、あなたがたに御霊を賜い、力あるわざをあなたがたの間でなされたのは、律法を行ったからか、それとも、聞いて信じたからか。
3:5 He therefore that ministers to you the Spirit, (o. pneuma) and works miracles among you, does he it by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith?
3:6 このように、アブラハムは「神を信じた。それによって、彼は義と認められた」のである。
3:6 Even as Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness.
3:7 だから、信仰による者こそアブラハムの子であることを、知るべきである。
3:7 Know all of you therefore that they which are of faith, the same are the children of Abraham.
3:8 聖書は、神が異邦人を信仰によって義とされることを、あらかじめ知って、アブラハムに、「あなたによって、すべての国民は祝福されるであろう」との良い知らせを、予告したのである。
3:8 And the scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the heathen through faith, preached before the gospel unto Abraham, saying, In you shall all nations be blessed.
3:9 このように、信仰による者は、信仰の人アブラハムと共に、祝福を受けるのである。
3:9 So then they which be of faith are blessed with faithful Abraham.
3:10 いったい、律法の行いによる者は、皆のろいの下にある。「律法の書に書いてあるいっさいのことを守らず、これを行わない者は、皆のろわれる」と書いてあるからである。
3:10 For as many as are of the works of the law are under the curse: for it is written, Cursed is every one that continues not in all things which are written in the book of the law to do them.
3:11 そこで、律法によっては、神のみまえに義とされる者はひとりもいないことが、明かである。なぜなら、「信仰による義人は生きる」からである。
3:11 But that no man is justified by the law in the sight of God, it is evident: for, The just shall live by faith.
3:12 律法は信仰に基づいているものではない。かえって、「律法を行う者は律法によって生きる」のである。
3:12 And the law is not of faith: but, The man that does them shall live in them.
3:13 キリストは、わたしたちのためにのろいとなって、わたしたちを律法ののろいからあがない出して下さった。聖書に、「木にかけられる者は、すべてのろわれる」と書いてある。
3:13 Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangs on a tree:
3:14 それは、アブラハムの受けた祝福が、イエス・キリストにあって異邦人に及ぶためであり、約束された御霊を、わたしたちが信仰によって受けるためである。
3:14 That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit (o. pneuma) through faith.
3:15 兄弟たちよ。世のならわしを例にとって言おう。人間の遺言でさえ、いったん作成されたら、これを無効にしたり、これに付け加えたりすることは、だれにもできない。
3:15 Brethren, I speak after the manner of men; Though it be but a man's covenant, yet if it be confirmed, no man nullifies, or adds thereto.
3:16 さて、約束は、アブラハムと彼の子孫とに対してなされたのである。それは、多数をさして「子孫たちとに」と言わずに、ひとりをさして「あなたの子孫とに」と言っている。これは、キリストのことである。
3:16 Now to Abraham and his seed were the promises made. He says not, And to seeds, as of many; but as of one, And to your seed, which is Christ.
3:17 わたしの言う意味は、こうである。神によってあらかじめ立てられた契約が、四百三十年の後にできた律法によって破棄されて、その約束がむなしくなるようなことはない。
3:17 And this I say, that the covenant, that was confirmed before of God in Christ, the law, which was four hundred and thirty years after, cannot nullify, that it should make the promise of no effect.
3:18 もし相続が、律法に基づいてなされるとすれば、もはや約束に基づいたものではない。ところが事実、神は契約によって、相続の恵みをアブラハムに賜ったのである。
3:18 For if the inheritance be of the law, it is no more of promise: but God gave it to Abraham by promise.
3:19 それでは、律法はなんであるか。それは違反を促すため、あしから加えられたのであって、約束されていた子孫が来るまで存続するだけのものであり、かつ、天使たちをとおし、
3:19 Wherefore then serves the law? It was added because of transgressions, till the seed should come to whom the promise was made; and it was ordained by angels in the hand of a mediator.
3:20 仲介者の手によって制定されたものにすぎない。仲介者なるものは、一方だけに属する者ではない。しかし、神はひとりである。
3:20 Now a mediator is not a mediator of one, but God is one.
3:21 では、律法は神の約束と相いれないものか。断じてそうではない。もし人を生かす力のある律法が与えられていたとすれば、義はたしかに律法によって実現されたであろう。
3:21 Is the law then against the promises of God? God forbid: for if there had been a law given which could have given life, verily righteousness should have been by the law.
3:22 しかし、約束が、信じる人々にイエス・キリストに対する信仰によって与えられるために、聖書はすべての人を罪の下に閉じ込めたのである。
3:22 But the scripture has concluded all under sin, that the promise by faith of Jesus Christ might be given to them that believe.
3:23 しかし、信仰が現れる前には、わたしたちは律法の下で監視されており、やがて啓示される信仰の時まで閉じ込められていた。
3:23 But before faith came, we were kept under the law, shut up unto the faith which should afterwards be revealed.
3:24 このようにして律法は、信仰によって義とされるために、わたしたちをキリストに連れて行く養育掛かりとなったのである。
3:24 Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith.
3:25 しかし、いったん信仰が現れた以上、わたしたちは、もはや養育掛のもとにはいない。
3:25 But after that faith has come, we are no longer under a schoolmaster.
3:26 あなたがたはみな、キリスト・イエスにある信仰によって、神の子なのである。
3:26 For all of you are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus.
3:27 キリストに合うバプテスマを受けたあなたがたは、皆キリストを着たのである。
3:27 For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ.
3:28 もはや、ユダヤ人もギリシャ人もなく、奴隷も自由人もなく、男も女もない。あなたがたは皆、キリスト・イエスにあって一つだからである。
3:28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for all of you are all one in Christ Jesus.
3:29 もしキリストのものであるなら、あなたがたはアブラハムの子孫であり、約束による相続人なのである。
3:29 And if all of you be Christ's, then are all of you Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise.
4:1 わたしの言う意味は、こうである。相続人が子供である間は、全財産は持ち主でありながら、僕となんの差別もなく、
4:1 Now I say, That the heir, as long as he is a child, differs nothing from a servant, though he be lord of all;
4:2 父親の定めた時期までは、管理人や後見人の監督の下に置かれているのである。
4:2 But is under tutors and governors until the time appointed of the father.
4:3 それと同じく、わたしたちも子供であった時には、いわゆるこの世のもろもろの霊力の下に、縛られていた者であった。
4:3 Even so we, when we were children, were in bondage under the elements of the world:
4:4 しかし、時の満ちるに及んで、神は御子を女から生まれさせ、律法の下で生まれさせて、おつかわしになった。
4:4 But when the fullness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law,
4:5 それは、律法の下にある者をあがない出すため、わたしたちに子たる身分を授けるためであった。
4:5 To redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons.
4:6 このように、あなたがたは子であるのだから、神はわたしたちの心の中に、「アバ、父よ」と呼ぶ御子の霊をおくって下さったのである。
4:6 And because all of you are sons, God has sent forth the Spirit (o. pneuma) of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father.
4:7 したがって、あなたがたはもはや僕ではなく、子である。子である以上、また神による相続人である。
4:7 Wherefore you are no more a servant, but a son; and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ.
4:8 神を知らなかった当時、あなたがたは、本来神ならぬ神々の奴隷になっていた。
4:8 Nevertheless then, when all of you knew not God, all of you did service unto them which by nature are no gods.
4:9 しかし、今では神を知っているのに、否、むしろ神に知られているのに、どうしてあの無力で貧弱な、ものものの霊力に逆もどりして、またもや、新たにその奴隷になろうとするのか。
4:9 But now, after that all of you have known God, or rather are known of God, how turn all of you again to the weak and beggarly elements, unto which all of you desire again to be in bondage?
4:10 あなたがたは、日や月や季節や年などを守っている。
4:10 All of you observe days, and months, and times, and years.
4:11 わたしは、あなたがたのために努力してきたことが、あるいは、むだになったのではないかと、あなたがたのことが心配でならない。
4:11 I am afraid of you, lest I have bestowed upon you labour in vain.
4:12 兄弟たちよ。お願いする。どうか、わたしのようになってほしい。わたしも、あなたがたのようになったのだから。あなたがたは、一度もわたしに対して不都合なことをしたことはない。
4:12 Brethren, I plead to you, be as I am; for I am as all of you are: all of you have not injured me at all.
4:13 あなたがたも知っているとおり、最初わたしがあなたがたに福音を伝えたのは、わたしの肉体が弱っていたためであった。
4:13 All of you know how through infirmity of the flesh I preached the gospel unto you at the first.
4:14 そして、わたしの肉体にはあなたがたにとって試練となるものがあったのに、それを卑しめもせず、またきらいもせず、かえってわたしを、神の使いかキリスト・イエスがでもあるように、迎えてくれた。
4:14 And my temptation which was in my flesh all of you despised not, nor rejected; but received me as an angel of God, even as Christ Jesus.
4:15 その時のあなたがたの感激は、今どこにあるのか。はっきり言うが、あなたがたは、できることなら、自分の目をえぐり出してでも、わたしにりれたかったのだ。
4:15 Where is then the blessedness all of you spoke of? for I bear you record, that, if it had been possible, all of you would have plucked out your own eyes, and have given them to me.
4:16 それだのに、真理を語ったために、わたしはあなたがたの敵になったのか。
4:16 Am I therefore become your enemy, because I tell you the truth?
4:17 彼らがあなたがたに対して熱心なのは、善意からではない。むしろ、自分らに熱心にならせるために、あなたがたをわたしから引き離そうとしているのである。
4:17 They zealously affect you, but not well; yea, they would exclude you, that all of you might affect them.
4:18 わたしがあなたがたの所にいる時だけでなく、いつも、良いことにつついて熱心に慕われるのは、良いことである。
4:18 But it is good to be zealously affected always in a good thing, and not only when I am present with you.
4:19 ああ、わたしの幼な子たちよ。あなたがたの打ちにキリストの形ができるまでは、わたしは。またもや、あなたがたのために産みの苦しみをする。
4:19 My little children, of whom I travail in birth again until Christ be formed in you,
4:20 できることなら、わたしは今あなたがたの所にいて、語調を変えて話してみたい。わたしはあなたがたのことで、途方にくれている。
4:20 I desire to be present with you now, and to change my voice; for I stand in doubt of you.
4:21 律法の下にとどまっていたいと思う人たちよ。わたしに答えなさい。あなたがたの律法は言うところを聞かないのか。
4:21 Tell me, all of you that desire to be under the law, do all of you not hear the law?
4:22 そのしるすところによると、アブラハムにふたりの子があった、ひとりは女奴隷から、ひとりは自由の女から生まれた。
4:22 For it is written, that Abraham had two sons, the one by a bondmaid, the other by a freewoman.
4:23 女奴隷の子は肉によって生まれたのであり、自由の女の子は約束によって生まれたのであった。
4:23 But he who was of the bondwoman was born after the flesh; but he of the freewoman was by promise.
4:24 さて、この物語は比喩としてみられる。すなわち、この女たちは二つの契約をさす。そのひとりはシナイ山から出て、奴隷となる者を生む。ハガルがそれである。
4:24 Which things are an allegory: for these are the two covenants; the one from the mount Sinai, which genders to bondage, which is Agar.
4:25 ハガルといえばアラビアではシナイ山のことで、今のエルサレムに当たる。なぜなら、それは子たちと共に、奴隷になっているからである。
4:25 For this Agar is mount Sinai in Arabia, and answers to Jerusalem which now is, and is in bondage with her children.
4:26 しかし、上なるエルサレムは、自由の女であって、わたしたちの母をさす。
4:26 But Jerusalem which is above is free, which is the mother of us all.
4:27 すなわち、こう書いてある、「喜べ、不妊の女よ。声をあげて喜べ、産みの苦しみを知らない女よ。ひとり者となっている女は多くの子を産み、その数は、夫ある女の子らよりも多い」。
4:27 For it is written, Rejoice, you barren that bear not; break forth and cry, you that travail not: for the desolate has many more children than she which has an husband.
4:28 兄弟たちよ。あなたがたは、イサクのように、約束の子である。
4:28 Now we, brethren, as Isaac was, are the children of promise.
4:29 しかし、その当時、肉によって生まれた者が、霊によって生まれた者を迫害したように、今でも同様である。
4:29 But as then he that was born after the flesh persecuted him that was born after the Spirit, (o. pneuma) even so it is now.
4:30 しかし、聖書はなんと言っているか。「女奴隷とその子とを追い出せ。女奴隷の子は、自由な女の子と共に相続してはならない」とある。
4:30 Nevertheless what says the scripture? Cast out the bondwoman and her son: for the son of the bondwoman shall not be heir with the son of the freewoman.
4:31 だから、兄弟たちよ。わたしたちは女奴隷の子ではなく、自由の女の子なのである。
4:31 So then, brethren, we are not children of the bondwoman, but of the free.
5:1 自由を得させるために、キリストはわたしたちを解放して下さったのである。だから、堅く立って、二度と奴隷のくびきにつながれてはならんい。
5:1 Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ has made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage.
5:2 見よ、このパウロがあなたがたに言う。もし割礼を受けるなら、キリストはあなたがたに用のないものになろう。
5:2 Behold, I Paul say unto you, that if all of you be circumcised, Christ shall profit you nothing.
5:3 割礼を受けようとするすべての人たちに、もう一度言っておく。そういう人たちは、律法の全部を行う義務がある。
5:3 For I testify again to every man that is circumcised, that he is a debtor to do the whole law.
5:4 律法によって義とされようとするあなたがたは、キリストから離れてしまっている。恵みから落ちている。
5:4 Christ is become of no effect unto you, whosoever of you are justified by the law; all of you are fallen from grace.
5:5 わたしたちは、御霊の助けにより、信仰によって義とされる望みを強くいだいている。
5:5 For we through the Spirit (o. pneuma) wait for the hope of righteousness by faith.
5:6 キリスト・イエスにあっては、割礼があってもなくても、問題ではない。尊いのは、愛によって働く信仰だけである。
5:6 For in Jesus Christ neither circumcision avails any thing, nor uncircumcision; but faith which works by love. (o. agape)
5:7 あなたがたはよく走り続けてきたのに、だれが邪魔をして、真理にそむかせたのか。
5:7 All of you did run well; who did hinder you that all of you should not obey the truth?
5:8 そのような勧誘は、あなたがたを召されたかたから出たものではない。
5:8 This persuasion comes not of him that calls you.
5:9 少しのパン種でも、粉のかたまり全体をふくらませる。
5:9 A little leaven leavens the whole lump.
5:10 あなたがたはいささかもわたしと違った思いをいだくことはないと、主にあって信頼している。しかし、あなたがたを動揺させている者は、それがだれであろうと、さばきを受けるであろう。
5:10 I have confidence in you through the Lord, that all of you will be none otherwise minded: but he that troubles you shall bear his judgment, whosoever he be.
5:11 兄弟たちよ。わたしがもし今でも割礼を宣べ伝えていたら、どうして、いまなお迫害されるはずがあろうか。そうしていたら、十字架のつまずきは、なくなっているであろう。
5:11 And I, brethren, if I yet preach circumcision, why do I yet suffer persecution? then is the offence of the cross ceased.
5:12 あなたがたの扇動者どもは、自ら去勢してしまうがよかろう。
5:12 I would they were even cut off which trouble you.
5:13 兄弟たちよ。あなたがたが召されたのは、実に、自由を得るためである。ただ、その自由を、肉の働く機会としないで、愛をもって互に仕えなさい。
5:13 For, brethren, all of you have been called unto liberty; only use not liberty for an occasion to the flesh, but by love (o. agape) serve one another.
5:14 律法の全体は、「自分を愛するように、あなたの隣り人を愛せよ」というこの一句に尽きるからである。
5:14 For all the law is fulfilled in one word, (o. logos) even in this; You shall love your neighbour as yourself.
5:15 気をつけているがよい。もし互にかみ合い、食い合っているなら、あなたがたは互に滅ぼされてしまうだろう。
5:15 But if all of you bite and devour one another, take heed that all of you be not consumed one of another.
5:16 わたしは命じる。御霊によって歩きなさい。そうすれば、決して肉の欲を満たすことはない。
5:16 This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, (o. pneuma) and all of you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh.
5:17 なぜなら、肉の欲するところは御霊に反し、また御霊の欲するところは肉に反するからである。こうして、二つのものは互に相さからい、その結果、あなたがたは自分でしようと思うことを、することができないようになる。
5:17 For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, (o. pneuma) and the Spirit (o. pneuma) against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that all of you cannot do the things that all of you would.
5:18 もしあなたがたが御霊に導かれるなら、律法の下にはいない。
5:18 But if all of you be led of the Spirit, (o. pneuma) all of you are not under the law.
5:19 肉の働きは明白である。すなわち、不品行、汚れ、好色、
5:19 Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness,
5:20 偶像礼拝、まじない、敵意、争い、そねみ、怒り、党派心、分裂、分派、
5:20 Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, worldy jealousies, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies,
5:21 ねたみ、泥酔、宴楽、および、そのたぐいである。わたしは以前も言ったように、今も前もって言っておく。このようなことを行う者は、神の国をつぐことがない。
5:21 Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.
5:22 しかし、御霊の実は、愛、喜び、平和、寛容、慈愛、善意、忠実、
5:22 But the fruit of the Spirit (o. pneuma) is love, (o. agape) joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,
5:23 柔和、自制であって、これらを否定する律法はない。
5:23 Meekness, wilful restrain: against such there is no law.
5:24 キリスト・イエスに属する者は、自分の肉を、その情と欲と共に十字架につけてしまったのである。
5:24 And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts.
5:25 もしわたしたちが御霊によって生きるのなら、また御霊によって進もうではないか。
5:25 If we live in the Spirit, (o. pneuma) let us also walk in the Spirit. (o. pneuma)
5:26 互にいどみ合い、互にねたみ合って、虚栄に生きてはならない。
5:26 Let us not be desirous of vain glory, provoking one another, envying one another.
6:1 兄弟たちよ、もしもある人が罪過に陥っていることがわかったなら、霊の人であるあなたがたは、柔和な心をもって、その人を正しなさい。それと同時に、もしか自分自身も誘惑に陥ることがありはしないかと、反省しなさい。
6:1 Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, all of you which are spiritual, restore such an one in the spirit (o. pneuma) of meekness; considering yourself, lest you also be tempted.
6:2 互に重荷を負い合いなさい。そうすれば、あなたがたはキリストの律法を全うするであろう。
6:2 Bear all of you one another's burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.
6:3 もしある人が、事実そうでないのに、自分が何か偉い者であるように思っているとすれば、その人は自分を欺いているのである。
6:3 For if a man think himself to be something, when he is nothing, he deceives himself.
6:4 ひとりびとり、自分だけには誇ることができても、ほかの人には誇れなくなるであろう。
6:4 But let every man prove his own work, and then shall he have rejoicing in himself alone, and not in another.
6:5 人はそれぞれ、自分自身の重荷を負うべきである。
6:5 For every man shall bear his own burden.
6:6 御言を教えてもらう人は、教える人と、すべて良いものを分け合いなさい。
6:6 Let him that is taught in the word (o. logos) communicate unto him that teaches in all good things.
6:7 まちがってはいけない、神は侮られているようなかたではない。人は自分のまいたものを、刈り取ることになる。
6:7 Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man sows, that shall he also reap.
6:8 すなわち、自分の肉にまく者は、肉から滅びを刈り取り、霊にまく者は、霊から永遠のいのちを刈り取るであろう。
6:8 For he that sows to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that sows to the Spirit (o. pneuma) shall of the Spirit (o. pneuma) reap life everlasting.
6:9 わたしたちは、善を行うことに、うみ疲れてはならない。たゆまないでいると、時が来れば刈り取るようになる。
6:9 And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.
6:10 だから、機会あるごとに、だれに対しても、とくに信仰の仲間に対して、善を行おうではないか。
6:10 As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith.
6:11 ごらんなさい。わたし自身いま筆をとって、こんなに大きい字で、あなたがたに書いていることを。
6:11 All of you see how large a letter I have written unto you with mine own hand.
6:12 いったい、肉において見えを飾ろうとする者たちは、キリスト・イエスの十字架のゆえに、迫害を受けたくないばかりに、あなたがたにたいして割礼を受けさせようとする。
6:12 As many as desire to make a fair show in the flesh, they constrain you to be circumcised; only lest they should suffer persecution for the cross of Christ.
6:13 事実、割礼のあるもの自身が律法を守らず、ただ、あなたがたの肉について誇りたいために、割礼を受けさせようとしているのである。
6:13 For neither they themselves who are circumcised keep the law; but desire to have you circumcised, that they may glory in your flesh.
6:14 しかし、わたし自身には、わたしたちの主イエス・キリストの十字架につけられて、この世はわたしたちに対して死んでしまったのである。
6:14 But God forbid that I should glory, save in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world is crucified unto me, and I unto the world.
6:15 割礼のあるなしは問題ではなく、ただ、新しく造られることこそ、重要なのである。
6:15 For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision avails any thing, nor uncircumcision, but a new creature.
6:16 この法則に従って進む人々の上に、平和とあわれみとがあるように、また、神のイスラエルの上にあるように。
6:16 And as many as walk according to this rule, peace be on them, and mercy, and upon the Israel of God.
6:17 だれも今後は、わたしに煩いをかけないでほしい。わたしは、イエスの焼き印を身に帯びているのだから。
6:17 From henceforth let no man trouble me: for I bear in my body the marks of the Lord Jesus.
6:18 兄弟たちよ。わたしたちの主イエス・キリストの恵みが、あなたがたの霊と共にあるように、アァメン。
6:18 Brethren, the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit. (o. pneuma) Amen.
