1:1 Then Moab rebelled against Israel after the death of Ahab.
1:2 さてアハジヤはサマリヤにある高殿のらんかんから落ちて病気になったので、死者をつかわし、「行ってエクロンの神バアル・ゼブブに、この病気がなおるかどうかを尋ねよ」と命じた。
1:2 And Ahaziah fell down through a lattice in his upper chamber that was in Samaria, and was sick: and he sent messengers, and said unto them, Go, enquire of Baalzebub the god of Ekron whether I shall recover of this disease.
1:3 時に、主の使はテシベびとエリヤに言った、「立って、上って行き、サマリヤの王の使者に会って言いなさい、『あなたがたがエクロンの神バアル・ゼブブに尋ねようとして行くのは、イスラエルに神がないためか』。
1:3 But the angel of the LORD said to Elijah the Tishbite, Arise, go up to meet the messengers of the king of Samaria, and say unto them, Is it not because there is not a God in Israel, that all of you go to enquire of Baalzebub the god of Ekron?
1:4 それゆえ主はこう仰せられる、『あなたは、登った寝台から降りることなく、必ず死ぬであろう』」。そこでエリヤは上って行った。
1:4 Now therefore thus says the LORD, You shall not come down from that bed on which you are gone up, but shall surely die. And Elijah departed.
1:5 使者たちがアハジヤのもとに帰ってきたので、アハジヤは彼らに言った、「なぜ帰ってきたのか」。
1:5 And when the messengers turned back unto him, he said unto them, Why are all of you now turned back?
1:6 彼らは言った、「ひとりの人が上ってきて、われわれに会って言いました、『おまえたちをつかわした王の所へ帰って言いなさい。主はこう仰せられる、あなたがエクロンの神バアル・ゼブブに尋ねようとして人をつかわすのは、イスラエルに神がないためなのか。それゆえあなたは、登った寝台から降りることなく、必ず死ぬであろう」。
1:6 And they said unto him, There came a man up to meet us, and said unto us, Go, return unto the king that sent you, and say unto him, Thus says the LORD, Is it not because there is not a God in Israel, that you send to enquire of Baalzebub the god of Ekron? therefore you shall not come down from that bed on which you are gone up, but shall surely die.
1:7 アハジヤは彼らに言った、「上ってきて、あなたがたに会って、これらの事を告げた人はどんな人であったか」。
1:7 And he said unto them, What manner of man was he which came up to meet you, and told you these words?
1:8 彼らは答えた、「その人は毛ごろもを着て、腰に皮の帯を締めていました」。彼は言った、「その人はテシべびとエリヤだ」。
1:8 And they answered him, He was an hairy man, and girt with a girdle of leather about his loins. And he said, It is Elijah the Tishbite.
1:9 そこで王は五十人の長を、部下の五十人と共にエリヤの所へつかわした。彼がエリヤの所へ上っていくと、エリヤは山の頂にすわっていたので、エリヤに言った、「神の人よ、王があなたに、下って来るようにと言われます」。
1:9 Then the king sent unto him a captain of fifty with his fifty. And he went up to him: and, behold, he sat on the top of an hill. And he spoke unto him, You man of God, the king has said, Come down.
1:10 しかしエリヤは五十人の長に答えた、「わたしがもし神の人であるならば、火が天から下って、あなたと部下の五十人とを焼き尽すでしょう」。そのように火が天から下って、彼と部下の五十人とを焼き尽した。
1:10 And Elijah answered and said to the captain of fifty, If I be a man of God, then let fire come down from heaven, and consume you and your fifty. And there came down fire from heaven, and consumed him and his fifty.
1:11 王はまた他の五十人の長を、部下の五十人と共にエリヤにつかわした。彼は上っていってエリヤに言った、「神の人よ、王がこう命じられます、『すみやかに下ってきなさい』」。
1:11 Again also he sent unto him another captain of fifty with his fifty. And he answered and said unto him, O man of God, thus has the king said, Come down quickly.
1:12 しかしエリヤは彼らに答えた、「わたしがもし神の人であるならば、火が天から下って、あなたと部下の五十人とを焼き尽すでしょう」。そのように神の火が天から下って、彼と部下の五十人とを焼き尽した。
1:12 And Elijah answered and said unto them, If I be a man of God, let fire come down from heaven, and consume you and your fifty. And the fire of God came down from heaven, and consumed him and his fifty.
1:13 王はまた第三の五十人の長を部下の五十人と共につかわした。第三の五十人の長は上っていって、エリヤの前にひざまずき、彼に願って言った、「神の人よ、どうぞ、わたしの命と、あなたのしもべであるこの五十人の命をあなたの目に尊いものとみなしてください。
1:13 And he sent again a captain of the third fifty with his fifty. And the third captain of fifty went up, and came and fell on his knees before Elijah, and besought him, and said unto him, O man of God, I pray you, let my life, and the life of these fifty your servants, be precious in your sight.
1:14 ごらんなさい、火が天からくだって、さきの五十人の長ふたりと、その部下の五十人ずつとを焼き尽しました。しかし今わたしの命をあなたの目に尊いものとみなしてください」。
1:14 Behold, there came fire down from heaven, and burnt up the two captains of the former fifties with their fifties: therefore let my life now be precious in your sight.
1:15 その時、主の使はエリヤに言った、「彼と共に下りなさい。彼を恐れてはならない」。そこでエリヤは立って、彼と共に下り、王のもとへ行って、
1:15 And the angel of the LORD said unto Elijah, Go down with him: be not afraid of him. And he arose, and went down with him unto the king.
1:16 王に言った、「主はこう仰せられます、『あなたはエクロンの神バアル・ゼブブに尋ねようと使者をつかわしたが、それはイスラエルに、その言葉を求むべき神がないためであるか。それゆえあなたは、登った寝台から降りることなく、必ず死ぬであろう』」。
1:16 And he said unto him, Thus says the LORD, Forasmuch as you have sent messengers to enquire of Baalzebub the god of Ekron, is it not because there is no God in Israel to enquire of his word? therefore you shall not come down off that bed on which you are gone up, but shall surely die.
1:17 彼はエリヤが言った主の言葉のとおりに死んだが、彼に子がなかったので、その兄弟ヨラムが彼に代って王となった。これはユダの王ヨシャパテの子ヨラムの第二年である。
1:17 So he died according to the word of the LORD which Elijah had spoken. And Jehoram reigned in his position in the second year of Jehoram the son of Jehoshaphat king of Judah; because he had no son.
1:18 アハジヤのその他の事績は、イスラエルの王の歴代志の書にしるされているではないか。
1:18 Now the rest of the acts of Ahaziah which he did, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?
2:1 主がつむじ風をもってエリヤを天に上らせようとされた時、エリヤはエリシャと共にギルガルを出て行った。
2:1 And it came to pass, when the LORD would take up Elijah into heaven by a whirlwind, that Elijah went with Elisha from Gilgal.
2:2 エリヤはエリシャに言った、「どうぞ、ここにとどまってください。主はわたしをベテルにつかわされるのですから」。しかしエリシャは言った、「主は生きておられます。またあなたも生きておられます。わたしはあなたを離れません」。そして彼らはベテルへ下った。
2:2 And Elijah said unto Elisha, Tarry here, I pray you; for the LORD has sent me to Bethel. And Elisha said unto him, As the LORD lives, and as your soul lives, I will not leave you. So they went down to Bethel.
2:3 ベテルにいる預言者のともがらが、エリシャのもとに出てきて彼に言った、「主がきょう、あなたの師事する主人をあなたから取られるのを知っていますか」。彼は言った、「はい、知っています。あなたがたは黙っていてください」。
2:3 And the sons of the prophets that were at Bethel came forth to Elisha, and said unto him, Know you that the LORD will take away your master from your head to day? And he said, Yea, I know it; hold all of you your peace.
2:4 エリヤは彼に言った、「エリシャよ、どうぞ、ここにとどまってください。主はわたしをエリコにつかわされるのですから」。しかしエリシャは言った、「主は生きておられます。またあなたも生きておられます。わたしはあなたを離れません」。そして彼らはエリコへ行った。
2:4 And Elijah said unto him, Elisha, tarry here, I pray you; for the LORD has sent me to Jericho. And he said, As the LORD lives, and as your soul lives, I will not leave you. So they came to Jericho.
2:5 エリコにいた預言者のともがらが、エリシャのもとにきて彼に言った、「主がきょう、あなたの師事する主人をあなたから取られるのを知っていますか」。彼は言った、「はい、知っています。あなたがたは黙っていてください」。
2:5 And the sons of the prophets that were at Jericho came to Elisha, and said unto him, Know you that the LORD will take away your master from your head to day? And he answered, Yea, I know it; hold all of you your peace.
2:6 エリヤはまた彼に言った、「どうぞ、ここにとどまってください。主はわたしをヨルダンにつかわされるのですから」。しかし彼は言った、「主は生きておられます。またあなたも生きておられます。わたしはあなたを離れません」。そしてふたりは進んで行った。
2:6 And Elijah said unto him, Tarry, I pray you, here; for the LORD has sent me to Jordan. And he said, As the LORD lives, and as your soul lives, I will not leave you. And they two went on.
2:7 預言者のともがら五十人も行って、彼らにむかって、はるかに離れて立っていた。彼らふたりは、ヨルダンのほとりに立ったが、
2:7 And fifty men of the sons of the prophets went, and stood to view far off: and they two stood by Jordan.
2:8 エリヤは外套を取り、それを巻いて水を打つと、水が左右に分れたので、二人はかわいた土の上を渡ることができた。
2:8 And Elijah took his mantle, and wrapped it together, and stroke the waters, and they were divided here and thither, so that they two went over on dry ground.
2:9 彼らが渡ったとき、エリヤはエリシャに言った、「わたしが取られて、あなたを離れる前に、あなたのしてほしい事を求めなさい」。エリシャは言った、「どうぞ、あなたの霊の二つの分をわたしに継がせてください」。
2:9 And it came to pass, when they were gone over, that Elijah said unto Elisha, Ask what I shall do for you, before I be taken away from you. And Elisha said, I pray you, let a double portion of your spirit be upon me.
2:10 エリヤは言った、「あなたはむずかしい事を求める。あなたがもし、わたしが取られて、あなたを離れるのを見るならば、そのようになるであろう。しかし見ないならば、そのようにはならない」。
2:10 And he said, You have asked a hard thing: nevertheless, if you see me when I am taken from you, it shall be so unto you; but if not, it shall not be so.
2:11 彼らが進みながら語っていた時、火の車と火の馬があらわれて、ふたりを隔てた。そしてエリヤはつむじ風に乗って天にのぼった。
2:11 And it came to pass, as they still went on, and talked, that, behold, there appeared a chariot of fire, and horses of fire, and parted them both asunder; and Elijah went up by a whirlwind into heaven.
2:12 エリシャはこれを見て「わが父よ、わが父よ、イスラエルの戦車よ、その騎兵よ」と叫んだが、再び彼を見なかった。そこでエリシャは自分の着物をつかんで、それを二つに裂き、
2:12 And Elisha saw it, and he cried, My father, my father, the chariot of Israel, and the horsemen thereof. And he saw him no more: and he took hold of his own clothes, and rent them in two pieces.
2:13 またエリヤの身から落ちた外套を取り上げ、帰ってきてヨルダンの岸に立った。
2:13 He took up also the mantle of Elijah that fell from him, and went back, and stood by the bank of Jordan;
2:14 そしてエリヤの身から落ちたその外套を取って水を打ち、「エリヤの神、主はどこにおられますか」と言い、彼が水を打つと、水は左右に分れたので、エリシャは渡った。
2:14 And he took the mantle of Elijah that fell from him, and stroke the waters, and said, Where is the LORD God of Elijah? and when he also had smitten the waters, they parted here and thither: and Elisha went over.
2:15 エリコにいる預言者のともがらは彼の近づいて来るのを見て、「エリヤの霊がエリシャの上にとどまっている」と言った。そして彼らは来て彼を迎え、その前に地に伏して、
2:15 And when the sons of the prophets which were to view at Jericho saw him, they said, The spirit of Elijah does rest on Elisha. And they came to meet him, and bowed themselves to the ground before him.
2:16 彼に言った、「しもべらの所に力の強い者が五十人います。どうぞ彼らをつかわして、あなたの主人を尋ねさせてください。主の霊が彼を引きあげて、彼を山か谷に投げたのかも知れません」。エリシャは「つかわしてはならない」と言ったが、
2:16 And they said unto him, Behold now, there be with your servants fifty strong men; let them go, we pray you, and seek your master: lest possibly the Spirit of the LORD has taken him up, and cast him upon some mountain, or into some valley. And he said, All of you shall not send.
2:17 彼の恥じるまで、しいたので、彼は「つかわしなさい」と言った。それで彼らは五十人の者をつかわし、三日の間尋ねたが、彼を見いださなかった。
2:17 And when they urged him till he was ashamed, he said, Send. They sent therefore fifty men; and they sought three days, but found him not.
2:18 エリシャのなおエリコにとどまっている時、彼らが帰ってきたので、エリシャは彼らに言った、「わたしは、あなたがたに、行ってはならないと告げたではないか」。
2:18 And when they came again to him, (for he tarried at Jericho,) he said unto them, Did I not say unto you, Go not?
2:19 町の人々はエリシャに言った、「見られるとおり、この町の場所は良いが水が悪いので、この地は流産を起すのです」。
2:19 And the men of the city said unto Elisha, Behold, I pray you, the situation of this city is pleasant, as my lord sees: but the water is nil, and the ground barren.
2:20 エリシャは言った、「新しい皿に塩を盛って、わたしに持ってきなさい」。彼らは持ってきた。
2:20 And he said, Bring me a new cruse, and put salt therein. And they brought it to him.
2:21 エリシャは水の源へ出て行って、塩をそこに投げ入れて言った、「主はこう仰せられる、『わたしはこの水を良い水にした。もはやここには死も流産も起らないであろう』」。
2:21 And he went forth unto the spring of the waters, and cast the salt in there, and said, Thus says the LORD, I have healed these waters; there shall not be from thence any more death or barren land.
2:22 こうしてその水はエリシャの言ったとおりに良い水になって今日に至っている。
2:22 So the waters were healed unto this day, according to the saying of Elisha which he spoke.
2:23 彼はそこからベテルへ上ったが、上って行く途中、小さい子供らが町から出てきて彼をあざけり、彼にむかって「はげ頭よ、のぼれ。はげ頭よ、のぼれ」と言ったので、
2:23 And he went up from thence unto Bethel: and as he was going up by the way, there came forth little children out of the city, and mocked him, and said unto him, Go up, you bald head; go up, you bald head.
2:24 彼はふり返って彼らを見、主の名をもって彼らをのろった。すると林の中から二頭の雌ぐまが出てきて、その子供らのうち四十二人を裂いた。
2:24 And he turned back, and looked on them, and cursed them in the name of the LORD. And there came forth two she bears out of the wood, and tare forty and two children of them.
2:25 彼はそこからカルメル山へ行き、そこからサマリヤに帰った。
2:25 And he went from thence to mount Carmel, and from thence he returned to Samaria.
3:1 ユダの王ヨシャパテの第十八年にアハブの子ヨラムはサマリヤでイスラエルの王となり、十二年世を治めた。
3:1 Now Jehoram the son of Ahab began to reign over Israel in Samaria the eighteenth year of Jehoshaphat king of Judah, and reigned twelve years.
3:2 彼は主の目の前に悪をおこなったが、その父母のようではなかった。彼がその父の造ったバアルの石柱を除いたからである。
3:2 And he wrought evil in the sight of the LORD; but not like his father, and like his mother: for he put away the image of Baal that his father had made.
3:3 しかし彼はイスラエルに罪を犯させたネバテの子ヤラベアムの罪につき従って、それを離れなかった。
3:3 Nevertheless he cleaved unto the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, which made Israel to sin; he departed not from it.
3:4 モアブの王メシャは羊の飼育者で、十万の小羊と、十万の雄羊の毛とを年々イスラエルの王に納めていたが、
3:4 And Mesha king of Moab was a sheep breeder, and rendered unto the king of Israel an hundred thousand lambs, and an hundred thousand rams, with the wool.
3:5 アハブが死んだ後、モアブの王はイスラエルの王にそむいた。
3:5 But it came to pass, when Ahab was dead, that the king of Moab rebelled against the king of Israel.
3:6 そこでヨラム王はその時サマリヤを出て、イスラエルびとをことごとく集め、
3:6 And king Jehoram went out of Samaria the same time, and numbered all Israel.
3:7 また、人をユダの王ヨシャパテにつかわし、「モアブの王はわたしにそむきました。あなたはモアブと戦うために、わたしと一緒に行かれませんか」と言わせた。彼は言った、「行きましょう。わたしはあなたと一つです。わたしの民はあなたの民と一つです。わたしの馬はあなたの馬と一つです」。
3:7 And he went and sent to Jehoshaphat the king of Judah, saying, The king of Moab has rebelled against me: will you go with me against Moab to battle? And he said, I will go up: I am as you are, my people as your people, and my horses as your horses.
3:8 彼はまた言った、「われわれはどの道を上るのですか」。ヨラムは答えた、「エドムの荒野の道を上りましょう」。
3:8 And he said, Which way shall we go up? And he answered, The way through the wilderness of Edom.
3:9 こうしてイスラエルの王はユダの王およびエドムの王と共に出て行った。しかし彼らは回り道をして、七日の間進んだが、軍勢とそれに従う家畜の飲む水がなかったので、
3:9 So the king of Israel went, and the king of Judah, and the king of Edom: and they fetched a compass of seven days' journey: and there was no water for the host, and for the cattle that followed them.
3:10 イスラエルの王は言った、「ああ、主は、この三人の王をモアブの手に渡そうとして召し集められたのだ」。
3:10 And the king of Israel said, Alas! that the LORD has called these three kings together, to deliver them into the hand of Moab!
3:11 ヨシャパテは言った、「われわれが主に問うことのできる主の預言者はここにいませんか」。イスラエルの王のひとりの家来が答えた、「エリヤの手に水を注いだシャパテの子エリシャがここにいます」。
3:11 But Jehoshaphat said, Is there not here a prophet of the LORD, that we may enquire of the LORD by him? And one of the king of Israel's servants answered and said, Here is Elisha the son of Shaphat, which poured water on the hands of Elijah.
3:12 ヨシャパテは言った、「主の言葉が彼にあります」。そこでイスラエルの王とヨシャパテとエドムの王とは彼のもとへ下っていった。
3:12 And Jehoshaphat said, The word of the LORD is with him. So the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat and the king of Edom went down to him.
3:13 エリシャはイスラエルの王に言った、「わたしはあなたとなんのかかわりがありますか。あなたの父上の預言者たちと母上の預言者たちの所へ行きなさい」。イスラエルの王は彼に言った、「いいえ、主がこの三人の王をモアブの手に渡そうとして召し集められたのです」。
3:13 And Elisha said unto the king of Israel, What have I to do with you? get you to the prophets of your father, and to the prophets of your mother. And the king of Israel said unto him, Nay: for the LORD has called these three kings together, to deliver them into the hand of Moab.
3:14 エリシャは言った、「わたしの仕える万軍の主は生きておられます。わたしはユダの王ヨシャパテのためにするのでなければ、あなたを顧み、あなたに会うことはしないのだが、
3:14 And Elisha said, As the LORD of hosts lives, before whom I stand, surely, were it not that I regard the presence of Jehoshaphat the king of Judah, I would not look toward you, nor see you.
3:15 いま楽人をわたしの所に連れてきなさい」。そこで楽人が楽を奏すると、主の手が彼に臨んで、
3:15 But now bring me a minstrel. And it came to pass, when the minstrel played, that the hand of the LORD came upon him.
3:16 彼は言った、「主はこう仰せられる、『わたしはこの谷を水たまりで満たそう』。
3:16 And he said, Thus says the LORD, Make this valley full of ditches.
3:17 これは主がこう仰せられるからである、『あなたがたは風も雨も見ないのに、この谷に水が満ちて、あなたがたと、その家畜および獣が飲むであろう』。
3:17 For thus says the LORD, All of you shall not see wind, neither shall all of you see rain; yet that valley shall be filled with water, that all of you may drink, both all of you, and your cattle, and your beasts.
3:18 これは主の目には小さい事である。主はモアブびとをも、あなたがたの手に渡される。
3:18 And this is but a light thing in the sight of the LORD: he will deliver the Moabites also into your hand.
3:19 そしてあなたがたはすべての堅固な町と、すべての良い町を撃ち、すべての良い木を切り倒し、すべての水の井戸をふさぎ、石をもって地のすべての良い所を荒すであろう」。
3:19 And all of you shall strike every fenced city, and every choice city, and shall fell every good tree, and stop all wells of water, and ruin every good piece of land with stones.
3:20 あくる朝になって、供え物をささげる時に、水がエドムの方から流れてきて、水は国に満ちた。
3:20 And it came to pass in the morning, when the food offering was offered, that, behold, there came water by the way of Edom, and the country was filled with water.
3:21 さてモアブびとは皆、王たちが自分たちを攻めるために上ってきたのを聞いたので、よろいを着ることのできる者を、老いも若きもことごとく召集して、国境に配置したが、
3:21 And when all the Moabites heard that the kings were come up to fight against them, they gathered all that were able to put on armour, and upward, and stood in the border.
3:22 朝はやく起きて、太陽がのぼって水を照したとき、モアブびとは目の前に血のように赤い水を見たので、
3:22 And they rose up early in the morning, and the sun shone upon the water, and the Moabites saw the water on the other side as red as blood:
3:23 彼らは言った、「これは血だ、きっと王たちが互に戦って殺し合ったのだ。だから、モアブよ、ぶんどりに行きなさい」。
3:23 And they said, This is blood: the kings are surely slain, and they have smitten one another: now therefore, Moab, to the spoil.
3:24 しかしモアブびとがイスラエルの陣営に行くと、イスラエルびとは立ちあがってモアブびとを撃ったので、彼らはイスラエルの前から逃げ去った。イスラエルびとは進んで、モアブびとを撃ち、その国にはいって、
3:24 And when they came to the camp of Israel, the Israelites rose up and stroke the Moabites, so that they fled before them: but they went forward smiting the Moabites, even in their country.
3:25 町々を滅ぼし、おのおの石を一つずつ、地のすべての良い所に投げて、これに満たし、水の井戸をことごとくふさぎ、良い木をことごとく切り倒して、ただキル・ハラセテはその名を残すのみとなったが、石を投げる者がこれを囲んで撃ち滅ぼした。
3:25 And they beat down the cities, and on every good piece of land cast every man his stone, and filled it; and they stopped all the wells of water, and felled all the good trees: only in Kirharaseth left they the stones thereof; nevertheless the slingers went about it, and stroke it.
3:26 モアブの王は戦いがあまりに激しく、当りがたいのを見て、つるぎを抜く者七百人を率い、エドムの王の所に突き入ろうとしたが、果さなかったので、
3:26 And when the king of Moab saw that the battle was too sore for him, he took with him seven hundred men that drew swords, to break through even unto the king of Edom: but they could not.
3:27 自分の位を継ぐべきその長子をとって城壁の上で燔祭としてささげた。その時イスラエルに大いなる憤りが臨んだので、彼らは彼をすてて自分の国に帰った。
3:27 Then he took his eldest son that should have reigned in his position, and offered him for a burnt offering upon the wall. And there was great indignation against Israel: and they departed from him, and returned to their own land.
4:1 預言者のともがらの、ひとりの妻がエリシャに呼ばわって言った、「あなたのしもべであるわたしの夫が死にました。ごぞんじのように、あなたのしもべは主を恐れる者でありましたが、今、債主がきて、わたしのふたりの子供を取って奴隷にしようとしているのです」。
4:1 Now there cried a certain woman of the wives of the sons of the prophets unto Elisha, saying, Your servant my husband is dead; and you know that your servant did fear the LORD: and the creditor has come to take unto him my two sons to be bondmen.
4:2 エリシャは彼女に言った、「あなたのために何をしましょうか。あなたの家にどんな物があるか、言いなさい」。彼女は言った、「一びんの油のほかは、はしための家に何もありません」。
4:2 And Elisha said unto her, What shall I do for you? tell me, what have you in the house? And she said, Yours handmaid has not any thing in the house, save a pot of oil.
4:3 彼は言った、「ほかへ行って、隣の人々から器を借りなさい。あいた器を借りなさい。少しばかりではいけません。
4:3 Then he said, Go, borrow you vessels abroad of all your neighbours, even empty vessels; borrow not a few.
4:4 そして内にはいって、あなたの子供たちと一緒に戸の内に閉じこもり、そのすべての器に油をついで、いっぱいになったとき、一つずつそれを取りのけておきなさい」。
4:4 And when you are come in, you shall shut the door upon you and upon your sons, and shall pour out into all those vessels, and you shall set aside that which is full.
4:5 彼女は彼を離れて去り、子供たちと一緒に戸の内に閉じこもり、子供たちの持って来る器に油をついだ。
4:5 So she went from him, and shut the door upon her and upon her sons, who brought the vessels to her; and she poured out.
4:6 油が満ちたとき、彼女は子供に「もっと器を持ってきなさい」と言ったが、子供が「器はもうありません」と言ったので、油はとまった。
4:6 And it came to pass, when the vessels were full, that she said unto her son, Bring me yet a vessel. And he said unto her, There is not a vessel more. And the oil stayed.
4:7 そこで彼女は神の人のところにきて告げたので、彼は言った、「行って、その油を売って負債を払いなさい。あなたと、あなたの子供たちはその残りで暮すことができます」。
4:7 Then she came and told the man of God. And he said, Go, sell the oil, and pay your debt, and live you and your children of the rest.
4:8 ある日エリシャはシュネムへ行ったが、そこにひとりの裕福な婦人がいて、しきりに彼に食事をすすめたので、彼はそこを通るごとに、そこに寄って食事をした。
4:8 And it fell upon a certain day, that Elisha passed to Shunem, where was a great woman; and she constrained him to eat bread. And so it was, that as often as he passed by, he turned in thither to eat bread.
4:9 その女は夫に言った、「いつもわたしたちの所を通るあの人は確かに神の聖なる人です。
4:9 And she said unto her husband, Behold now, I perceive that this is an holy man of God, which passes by us continually.
4:10 わたしたちは屋上に壁のある一つの小さいへやを造り、そこに寝台と机といすと燭台とを彼のために備えましょう。そうすれば彼がわたしたちの所に来るとき、そこに、はいることができます」。
4:10 Let us make a little chamber, I pray you, on the wall; and let us set for him there a bed, and a table, and a stool, and a candlestick: and it shall be, when he comes to us, that he shall turn in thither.
4:11 さて、ある日エリシャはそこにきて、そのへやにはいり、そこに休んだが、
4:11 And it fell upon a certain day, that he came thither, and he turned into the chamber, and lay there.
4:12 彼はそのしもべゲハジに「このシュネムの女を呼んできなさい」と言った。彼がその女を呼ぶと、彼女はきてエリシャの前に立ったので、
4:12 And he said to Gehazi his servant, Call this Shunammite. And when he had called her, she stood before him.
4:13 エリシャはゲハジに言った、「彼女に言いなさい、『あなたはこんなにねんごろに、わたしたちのために心を用いられたが、あなたのためには何をしたらよいでしょうか。王または軍勢の長にあなたの事をよろしく頼むことをお望みですか』」。彼女は答えて言った、「わたしは自分の民のうちに住んでいます」。
4:13 And he said unto him, Say now unto her, Behold, you have been careful for us with all this care; what is to be done for you? would you be spoken in order to the king, or to the captain of the host? And she answered, I dwell among mine own people.
4:14 エリシャは言った、「それでは彼女のために何をしようか」。ゲハジは言った、「彼女には子供がなく、その夫は老いています」。
4:14 And he said, What then is to be done for her? And Gehazi answered, Verily she has no child, and her husband is old.

4:15 And he said, Call her. And when he had called her, she stood in the door.
4:16 エリシャは言った、「来年の今ごろ、あなたはひとりの子を抱くでしょう」。彼女は言った、「いいえ、わが主よ、神の人よ、はしためを欺かないでください」。
4:16 And he said, About this season, according to the time of life, you shall embrace a son. And she said, Nay, my lord, you man of God, do not lie unto yours handmaid.
4:17 しかし女はついに身ごもって、エリシャが彼女に言ったように、次の年のそのころに子を産んだ。
4:17 And the woman conceived, and bare a son at that season that Elisha had said unto her, according to the time of life.
4:18 その子が成長して、ある日、刈入れびとの所へ出ていって、父のもとへ行ったが、
4:18 And when the child was grown, it fell upon a certain day, that he went out to his father to the reapers.
4:19 父にむかって「頭が、頭が」と言ったので、父はしもべに「彼を母のもとへ背負っていきなさい」と言った。
4:19 And he said unto his father, My head, my head. And he said to a lad, Carry him to his mother.
4:20 彼を背負って母のもとへ行くと、昼まで母のひざの上にすわっていたが、ついに死んだ。
4:20 And when he had taken him, and brought him to his mother, he sat on her knees till noon, and then died.
4:21 母は上がっていって、これを神の人の寝台の上に置き、戸を閉じて出てきた。
4:21 And she went up, and laid him on the bed of the man of God, and shut the door upon him, and went out.
4:22 そして夫を呼んで言った、「どうぞ、しもべひとりと、ろば一頭をわたしにかしてください。急いで神の人の所へ行って、また帰ってきます」。
4:22 And she called unto her husband, and said, Send me, I pray you, one of the young men, and one of the asses, that I may run to the man of God, and come again.
4:23 夫は言った、「どうしてきょう彼の所へ行こうとするのか。きょうは、ついたちでもなく、安息日でもない」。彼女は言った、「よろしいのです」。
4:23 And he said, Wherefore will you go to him to day? it is neither new moon, nor sabbath. And she said, It shall be well.
4:24 そして彼女はろばにくらを置いて、しもべに言った、「速く駆けさせなさい。わたしが命じる時でなければ、歩調をゆるめてはなりません」。
4:24 Then she saddled an ass, and said to her servant, Drive, and go forward; slack not your riding for me, except I bid you.
4:25 こうして彼女は出発してカルメル山へ行き、神の人の所へ行った。神の人は彼女の近づいてくるのを見て、しもべゲハジに言った、「向こうから、あのシュネムの女が来る。
4:25 So she went and came unto the man of God to mount Carmel. And it came to pass, when the man of God saw her far off, that he said to Gehazi his servant, Behold, yonder is that Shunammite:
4:26 すぐ走って行って、彼女を迎えて言いなさい、『あなたは無事ですか。あなたの夫は無事ですか。あなたの子供は無事ですか』」。彼女は答えた、「無事です」。
4:26 Run now, I pray you, to meet her, and say unto her, Is it well with you? is it well with your husband? is it well with the child? And she answered, It is well:
4:27 ところが彼女は山にきて、神の人の所へくるとエリシャの足にすがりついた。ゲハジが彼女を追いのけようと近よった時、神の人は言った、「かまわずにおきなさい。彼女は心に苦しみがあるのだから。主はそれを隠して、まだわたしにお告げにならないのだ」。
4:27 And when she came to the man of God to the hill, she caught him by the feet: but Gehazi came near to thrust her away. And the man of God said, Let her alone; for her soul is vexed within her: and the LORD has hid it from me, and has not told me.
4:28 そこで彼女は言った、「わたしがあなたに子を求めましたか。わたしを欺かないでくださいと言ったではありませんか」。
4:28 Then she said, Did I desire a son of my lord? did I not say, Do not deceive me?
4:29 エリシャはゲハジに言った、「腰をひきからげ、わたしのつえを手に持って行きなさい。だれに会っても、あいさつしてはならない。またあなたにあいさつする者があっても、それに答えてはならない。わたしのつえを子供の顔の上に置きなさい」。
4:29 Then he said to Gehazi, Gird up your loins, and take my staff in yours hand, and go your way: if you meet any man, salute him not; and if any salute you, answer him not again: and lay my staff upon the face of the child.
4:30 子供の母は言った、「主は生きておられます。あなたも生きておられます。わたしはあなたを離れません」。そこでエリシャはついに立ちあがって彼女のあとについて行った。
4:30 And the mother of the child said, As the LORD lives, and as your soul lives, I will not leave you. And he arose, and followed her.
4:31 ゲハジは彼らの先に行って、つえを子供の顔の上に置いたが、なんの声もなく、生きかえったしるしもなかったので、帰ってきてエリシャに会い、彼に告げて「子供はまだ目をさましません」と言った。
4:31 And Gehazi passed on before them, and laid the staff upon the face of the child; but there was neither voice, nor hearing. Wherefore he went again to meet him, and told him, saying, The child is not awaked.
4:32 エリシャが家にはいって見ると、子供は死んで、寝台の上に横たわっていたので、
4:32 And when Elisha was come into the house, behold, the child was dead, and laid upon his bed.
4:33 彼ははいって戸を閉じ、彼らふたりだけ内にいて主に祈った。
4:33 He went in therefore, and shut the door upon them two, and prayed unto the LORD.
4:34 そしてエリシャが上がって子供の上に伏し、自分の口を子供の口の上に、自分の目を子供の目の上に、自分の両手を子供の両手の上にあて、その身を子供の上に伸ばしたとき、子供のからだは暖かになった。
4:34 And he went up, and lay upon the child, and put his mouth upon his mouth, and his eyes upon his eyes, and his hands upon his hands: and stretched himself upon the child; and the flesh of the child waxed warm.
4:35 こうしてエリシャは再び起きあがって、家の中をあちらこちらと歩み、また上がって、その身を子供の上に伸ばすと、子供は七たびくしゃみをして目を開いた。
4:35 Then he returned, and walked in the house back and forth; and went up, and stretched himself upon him: and the child sneezed seven times, and the child opened his eyes.
4:36 エリシャはただちにゲハジを呼んで、「あのシュネムの女を呼べ」と言ったので、彼女を呼んだ。彼女がはいってくるとエリシャは言った、「あなたの子供をつれて行きなさい」。
4:36 And he called Gehazi, and said, Call this Shunammite. So he called her. And when she was come in unto him, he said, Take up your son.
4:37 彼女ははいってきて、エリシャの足もとに伏し、地に身をかがめた。そしてその子供を取りあげて出ていった。
4:37 Then she went in, and fell at his feet, and bowed herself to the ground, and took up her son, and went out.
4:38 エリシャはギルガルに帰ったが、その地にききんがあった。預言者のともがらが彼の前に座していたので、エリシャはそのしもべに言った、「大きなかまをすえて、預言者のともがらのために野菜の煮物をつくりなさい」。
4:38 And Elisha came again to Gilgal: and there was a dearth in the land; and the sons of the prophets were sitting before him: and he said unto his servant, Set on the great pot, and seethe pottage for the sons of the prophets.
4:39 彼らのうちのひとりが畑に出ていって青物をつんだが、つる草のあるのを見て、その野うりを一包つんできて、煮物のかまの中に切り込んだ。彼らはそれが何であるかを知らなかったからである。
4:39 And one went out into the field to gather herbs, and found a wild vine, and gathered thereof wild gourds his lap full, and came and shred them into the pot of pottage: for they knew them not.
4:40 やがてこれを盛って人々に食べさせようとしたが、彼らがその煮物を食べようとした時、叫んで、「ああ神の人よ、かまの中に、たべると死ぬものがはいっています」と言って、食べることができなかったので、
4:40 So they poured out for the men to eat. And it came to pass, as they were eating of the pottage, that they cried out, and said, O you man of God, there is death in the pot. And they could not eat thereof.
4:41 エリシャは「それでは粉を持って来なさい」と言って、それをかまに投げ入れ、「盛って人々に食べさせなさい」と言った。かまの中には、なんの毒物もなくなった。
4:41 But he said, Then bring meal. And he cast it into the pot; and he said, Pour out for the people, that they may eat. And there was no harm in the pot.
4:42 その時、バアル・シャリシャから人がきて、初穂のパンと、大麦のパン二十個と、新穀一袋とを神の人のもとに持ってきたので、エリシャは「人々に与えて食べさせなさい」と言ったが、
4:42 And there came a man from Baalshalisha, and brought the man of God bread of the first-fruits, twenty loaves of barley, and full ears of corn in the husk thereof. And he said, Give unto the people, that they may eat.
4:43 その召使は言った、「どうしてこれを百人の前に供えるのですか」。しかし彼は言った、「人々に与えて食べさせなさい。主はこう言われる、『彼らは食べてなお余すであろう』」。
4:43 And his personal attendant said, What, should I set this before an hundred men? He said again, Give the people, that they may eat: for thus says the LORD, They shall eat, and shall leave thereof.
4:44 そこで彼はそれを彼らの前に供えたので、彼らは食べてなお余した。主の言葉のとおりであった。
4:44 So he set it before them, and they did eat, and left thereof, according to the word of the LORD.
5:1 スリヤ王の軍勢の長ナアマンはその主君に重んじられた有力な人であった。主がかつて彼を用いてスリヤに勝利を得させられたからである。彼は大勇士であったが、らい病をわずらっていた。
5:1 Now Naaman, captain of the host of the king of Syria, was a great man with his master, and honourable, because by him the LORD had given deliverance unto Syria: he was also a mighty man in valour, but he was a leper.
5:2 さきにスリヤびとが略奪隊を組んで出てきたとき、イスラエルの地からひとりの少女を捕えて行った。彼女はナアマンの妻に仕えたが、
5:2 And the Syrians had gone out by companies, and had brought away captive out of the land of Israel a little maid; and she waited on Naaman's wife.
5:3 その女主人にむかって、「ああ、御主人がサマリヤにいる預言者と共におられたらよかったでしょうに。彼はそのらい病をいやしたことでしょう」と言ったので、
5:3 And she said unto her mistress, Would God my lord were with the prophet that is in Samaria! for he would recover him of his leprosy.
5:4 ナアマンは行って、その主君に、「イスラエルの地からきた娘がこういう事を言いました」と告げると、
5:4 And one went in, and told his lord, saying, Thus and thus said the maid that is of the land of Israel.
5:5 スリヤ王は言った、「それでは行きなさい。わたしはイスラエルの王に手紙を書きましょう」。そこで彼は銀十タラントと、金六千シケルと、晴れ着十着を携えて行った。
5:5 And the king of Syria said, Go to, go, and I will send a letter unto the king of Israel. And he departed, and took with him ten talents of silver, and six thousand pieces of gold, and ten changes of raiment.
5:6 彼がイスラエルの王に持って行った手紙には、「この手紙があなたにとどいたならば、わたしの家来ナアマンを、あなたにつかわしたことと御承知ください。あなたに彼のらい病をいやしていただくためです」とあった。
5:6 And he brought the letter to the king of Israel, saying, Now when this letter has come unto you, behold, I have therewith sent Naaman my servant to you, that you may recover him of his leprosy.
5:7 イスラエルの王はその手紙を読んだ時、衣を裂いて言った、「わたしは殺したり、生かしたりすることのできる神であろうか。どうしてこの人は、らい病人をわたしにつかわして、それをいやせと言うのか。あなたがたは、彼がわたしに争いをしかけているのを知って警戒するがよい」。
5:7 And it came to pass, when the king of Israel had read the letter, that he rent his clothes, and said, Am I God, to kill and to make alive, that this man does send unto me to recover a man of his leprosy? wherefore consider, I pray you, and see how he seeks a quarrel against me.
5:8 神の人エリシャは、イスラエルの王がその衣を裂いたことを聞き、王に人をつかわして言った、「どうしてあなたは衣を裂いたのですか。彼をわたしのもとにこさせなさい。そうすれば彼はイスラエルに預言者のあることを知るようになるでしょう」。
5:8 And it was so, when Elisha the man of God had heard that the king of Israel had rent his clothes, that he sent to the king, saying, Wherefore have you rent your clothes? let him come now to me, and he shall know that there is a prophet in Israel.
5:9 そこでナアマンは馬と車とを従えてきて、エリシャの家の入口に立った。
5:9 So Naaman came with his horses and with his chariot, and stood at the door of the house of Elisha.
5:10 するとエリシャは彼に使者をつかわして言った、「あなたはヨルダンへ行って七たび身を洗いなさい。そうすれば、あなたの肉はもとにかえって清くなるでしょう」。
5:10 And Elisha sent a messenger unto him, saying, Go and wash in Jordan seven times, and your flesh shall come again to you, and you shall be clean.
5:11 しかしナアマンは怒って去り、そして言った、「わたしは、彼がきっとわたしのもとに出てきて立ち、その神、主の名を呼んで、その箇所の上に手を動かして、らい病をいやすのだろうと思った。
5:11 But Naaman was angry, and went away, and said, Behold, I thought, He will surely come out to me, and stand, and call on the name of the LORD his God, and strike his hand over the place, and recover the leper.
5:12 ダマスコの川アバナとパルパルはイスラエルのすべての川水にまさるではないか。わたしはこれらの川に身を洗って清まることができないのであろうか」。こうして彼は身をめぐらし、怒って去った。
5:12 Are not Abana and Pharpar, rivers of Damascus, better than all the waters of Israel? may I not wash in them, and be clean? So he turned and went away in a rage.
5:13 その時、しもべたちは彼に近よって言った、「わが父よ、預言者があなたに、何か大きな事をせよと命じても、あなたはそれをなさらなかったでしょうか。まして彼はあなたに『身を洗って清くなれ』と言うだけではありませんか」。
5:13 And his servants came near, and spoke unto him, and said, My father, if the prophet had bid you do some great thing, would you not have done it? how much rather then, when he says to you, Wash, and be clean?
5:14 そこでナアマンは下って行って、神の人の言葉のように七たびヨルダンに身を浸すと、その肉がもとにかえって幼な子の肉のようになり、清くなった。
5:14 Then went he down, and dipped himself seven times in Jordan, according to the saying of the man of God: and his flesh came again like unto the flesh of a little child, and he was clean.
5:15 彼はすべての従者を連れて神の人のもとに帰ってきて、その前に立って言った、「わたしは今、イスラエルのほか、全地のどこにも神のおられないことを知りました。それゆえ、どうぞ、しもべの贈り物を受けてください」。
5:15 And he returned to the man of God, he and all his company, and came, and stood before him: and he said, Behold, now I know that there is no God in all the earth, but in Israel: now therefore, I pray you, take a blessing of your servant.
5:16 エリシャは言った、「わたしの仕える主は生きておられる。わたしは何も受けません」。彼はしいて受けさせようとしたが、それを拒んだ。
5:16 But he said, As the LORD lives, before whom I stand, I will receive none. And he urged him to take it; but he refused.
5:17 そこでナアマンは言った、「もしお受けにならないのであれば、どうぞ騾馬に二駄の土をしもべにください。これから後しもべは、他の神には燔祭も犠牲もささげず、ただ主にのみささげます。
5:17 And Naaman said, Shall there not then, I pray you, be given to your servant two mules' burden of earth? for your servant will henceforth offer neither burnt offering nor sacrifice unto other gods, but unto the LORD.
5:18 どうぞ主がこの事を、しもべにおゆるしくださるように。すなわち、わたしの主君がリンモンの宮にはいって、そこで礼拝するとき、わたしの手によりかかることがあり、またわたしもリンモンの宮で身をかがめることがありましょう。わたしがリンモンの宮で身をかがめる時、どうぞ主がその事を、しもべにおゆるしくださるように」。
5:18 In this thing the LORD pardon your servant, that when my master goes into the house of Rimmon to worship there, and he leans on my hand, and I bow myself in the house of Rimmon: when I bow down myself in the house of Rimmon, the LORD pardon your servant in this thing.
5:19 エリシャは彼に言った、「安んじて行きなさい」。ナアマンがエリシャを離れて少し行ったとき、
5:19 And he said unto him, Go in peace. So he departed from him a little way.
5:20 神の人エリシャのしもべゲハジは言った、「主人はこのスリヤびとナアマンをいたわって、彼が携えてきた物を受けなかった。主は生きておられる。わたしは彼のあとを追いかけて、彼から少し、物を受けよう」。
5:20 But Gehazi, the servant of Elisha the man of God, said, Behold, my master has spared Naaman this Syrian, in not receiving at his hands that which he brought: but, as the LORD lives, I will run after him, and take somewhat of him.
5:21 そしてゲハジはナアマンのあとを追ったが、ナアマンは自分のあとから彼が走ってくるのを見て、車から降り、彼を迎えて、「変った事があるのですか」と言うと、
5:21 So Gehazi followed after Naaman. And when Naaman saw him running after him, he lighted down from the chariot to meet him, and said, Is all well?
5:22 彼は言った、「無事です。主人がわたしをつかわして言わせます、『ただいまエフライムの山地から、預言者のともがらのふたりの若者が、わたしのもとに来ましたので、どうぞ彼らに銀一タラントと晴れ着二着を与えてください』」。
5:22 And he said, All is well. My master has sent me, saying, Behold, even now there be come to me from mount Ephraim two young men of the sons of the prophets: give them, I pray you, a talent of silver, and two changes of garments.
5:23 ナアマンは、「どうぞ二タラントを受けてください」と言って彼にしい、銀二タラントを二つの袋に入れ、晴れ着二着を添えて、自分のふたりのしもべに渡したので、彼らはそれを負ってゲハジの先に立って進んだが、
5:23 And Naaman said, Be content, take two talents. And he urged him, and bound two talents of silver in two bags, with two changes of garments, and laid them upon two of his servants; and they bare them before him.
5:24 彼は丘にきたとき、それを彼らの手から受け取って家のうちにおさめ、人々を送りかえしたので、彼らは去った。
5:24 And when he came to the tower, he took them from their hand, and bestowed them in the house: and he let the men go, and they departed.
5:25 彼がはいって主人の前に立つと、エリシャは彼に言った、「ゲハジよ、どこへ行ってきたのか」。彼は言った、「しもべはどこへも行きません」。
5:25 But he went in, and stood before his master. And Elisha said unto him, Whence come you, Gehazi? And he said, Your servant went no where.
5:26 エリシャは言った、「あの人が車をはなれて、あなたを迎えたとき、わたしの心はあなたと一緒にそこにいたではないか。今は金を受け、着物を受け、オリブ畑、ぶどう畑、羊、牛、しもべ、はしためを受ける時であろうか。
5:26 And he said unto him, Went not mine heart with you, when the man turned again from his chariot to meet you? Is it a time to receive money, and to receive garments, and olive yards, and vineyards, and sheep, and oxen, and male servants, and maidservants?
5:27 それゆえ、ナアマンのらい病はあなたに着き、ながくあなたの子孫に及ぶであろう」。彼がエリシャの前を出ていくとき、らい病が発して雪のように白くなっていた。
5:27 The leprosy therefore of Naaman shall cleave unto you, and unto your seed for ever. And he went out from his presence a leper as white as snow.
6:1 さて預言者のともがらはエリシャに言った、「わたしたちがあなたと共に住んでいる所は狭くなりましたので、
6:1 And the sons of the prophets said unto Elisha, Behold now, the place where we dwell with you is too strait for us.
6:2 わたしたちをヨルダンに行かせ、そこからめいめい一本ずつ材木を取ってきて、わたしたちの住む場所を造らせてください」。エリシャは言った、「行きなさい」。
6:2 Let us go, we pray you, unto Jordan, and take thence every man a beam, and let us make us a place there, where we may dwell. And he answered, Go all of you.
6:3 時にそのひとりが、「どうぞあなたも、しもべらと一緒に行ってください」と言ったので、エリシャは「行きましょう」と答えた。
6:3 And one said, Be content, I pray you, and go with your servants. And he answered, I will go.
6:4 そしてエリシャは彼らと一緒に行った。彼らはヨルダンへ行って木を切り倒したが、
6:4 So he went with them. And when they came to Jordan, they cut down wood.
6:5 ひとりが材木を切り倒しているとき、おのの頭が水の中に落ちたので、彼は叫んで言った。「ああ、わが主よ。これは借りたものです」。
6:5 But as one was felling a beam, the axe head fell into the water: and he cried, and said, Alas, master! for it was borrowed.
6:6 神の人は言った、「それはどこに落ちたのか」。彼がその場所を知らせると、エリシャは一本の枝を切り落し、そこに投げ入れて、そのおのの頭を浮ばせ、
6:6 And the man of God said, Where fell it? And he showed him the place. And he cut down a stick, and cast it in thither; and the iron did swim.
6:7 「それを取りあげよ」と言ったので、その人は手を伸べてそれを取った。
6:7 Therefore said he, Take it up to you. And he put out his hand, and took it.
6:8 かつてスリヤの王がイスラエルと戦っていたとき、家来たちと評議して「しかじかの所にわたしの陣を張ろう」と言うと、
6:8 Then the king of Syria warred against Israel, and took counsel with his servants, saying, In such and such a place shall be my camp.
6:9 神の人はイスラエルの王に「あなたは用心して、この所をとおってはなりません。スリヤびとがそこに下ってきますから」と言い送った。
6:9 And the man of God sent unto the king of Israel, saying, Beware that you pass not such a place; for thither the Syrians are come down.
6:10 それでイスラエルの王は神の人が自分に告げてくれた所に人をつかわし、警戒したので、その所でみずからを防ぎえたことは一、二回にとどまらなかった。
6:10 And the king of Israel sent to the place which the man of God told him and warned him of, and saved himself there, not once nor twice.
6:11 スリヤの王はこの事のために心を悩まし、家来たちを召して言った、「われわれのうち、だれがイスラエルの王と通じているのか、わたしに告げる者はないか」。
6:11 Therefore the heart of the king of Syria was sore troubled for this thing; and he called his servants, and said unto them, Will all of you not show me which of us is for the king of Israel?
6:12 ひとりの家来が言った、「王、わが主よ、だれも通じている者はいません。ただイスラエルの預言者エリシャが、あなたが寝室で語られる言葉でもイスラエルの王に告げるのです」。
6:12 And one of his servants said, None, my lord, O king: but Elisha, the prophet that is in Israel, tells the king of Israel the words that you speak in your bedchamber.
6:13 王は言った、「彼がどこにいるか行って捜しなさい。わたしは人をやって彼を捕えよう」。時に「彼はドタンにいる」と王に告げる者があったので、
6:13 And he said, Go and spy where he is, that I may send and fetch him. And it was told him, saying, Behold, he is in Dothan.
6:14 王はそこに馬と戦車および大軍をつかわした。彼らは夜のうちに来て、その町を囲んだ。
6:14 Therefore sent he thither horses, and chariots, and a great host: and they came by night, and compassed the city about.
6:15 神の人の召使が朝早く起きて出て見ると、軍勢が馬と戦車をもって町を囲んでいたので、その若者はエリシャに言った、「ああ、わが主よ、わたしたちはどうしましょうか」。
6:15 And when the servant of the man of God was risen early, and gone forth, behold, an host compassed the city both with horses and chariots. And his servant said unto him, Alas, my master! how shall we do?
6:16 エリシャは言った、「恐れることはない。われわれと共にいる者は彼らと共にいる者よりも多いのだから」。
6:16 And he answered, Fear not: for they that be with us are more than they that be with them.
6:17 そしてエリシャが祈って「主よ、どうぞ、彼の目を開いて見させてください」と言うと、主はその若者の目を開かれたので、彼が見ると、火の馬と火の戦車が山に満ちてエリシャのまわりにあった。
6:17 And Elisha prayed, and said, LORD, I pray you, open his eyes, that he may see. And the LORD opened the eyes of the young man; and he saw: and, behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire round about Elisha.
6:18 スリヤびとがエリシャの所に下ってきた時、エリシャは主に祈って言った、「どうぞ、この人々の目をくらましてください」。するとエリシャの言葉のとおりに彼らの目をくらまされた。
6:18 And when they came down to him, Elisha prayed unto the LORD, and said, Strike this people, I pray you, with blindness. And he stroke them with blindness according to the word of Elisha.
6:19 そこでエリシャは彼らに「これはその道ではない。これはその町でもない。わたしについてきなさい。わたしはあなたがたを、あなたがたの尋ねる人の所へ連れて行きましょう」と言って、彼らをサマリヤへ連れて行った。
6:19 And Elisha said unto them, This is not the way, neither is this the city: follow me, and I will bring you to the man whom all of you seek. But he led them to Samaria.
6:20 彼らがサマリヤにはいったとき、エリシャは言った、「主よ、この人々の目を開いて見させてください」。主は彼らの目を開かれたので、彼らが見ると、見よ、彼らはサマリヤのうちに来ていた。
6:20 And it came to pass, when they were come into Samaria, that Elisha said, LORD, open the eyes of these men, that they may see. And the LORD opened their eyes, and they saw; and, behold, they were in the midst of Samaria.
6:21 イスラエルの王は彼らを見て、エリシャに言った、「わが父よ、彼らを撃ち殺しましょうか。彼らを撃ち殺しましょうか」。
6:21 And the king of Israel said unto Elisha, when he saw them, My father, shall I strike them? shall I strike them?
6:22 エリシャは答えた、「撃ち殺してはならない。あなたはつるぎと弓をもって、捕虜にした者どもを撃ち殺すでしょうか。パンと水を彼らの前に供えて食い飲みさせ、その主君のもとへ行かせなさい」。
6:22 And he answered, You shall not strike them: would you strike those whom you have taken captive with your sword and with your bow? set bread and water before them, that they may eat and drink, and go to their master.
6:23 そこで王は彼らのために盛んなふるまいを設けた。彼らが食い飲みを終ると彼らを去らせたので、その主君の所へ帰った。スリヤの略奪隊は再びイスラエルの地にこなかった。
6:23 And he prepared great provision for them: and when they had eaten and drunk, he sent them away, and they went to their master. So the bands of Syria came no more into the land of Israel.
6:24 この後スリヤの王ベネハダデはその全軍を集め、上ってきてサマリヤを攻め囲んだので、
6:24 And it came to pass after this, that Benhadad king of Syria gathered all his host, and went up, and besieged Samaria.
6:25 サマリヤに激しいききんが起った。すなわち彼らがこれを攻め囲んだので、ついに、ろばの頭一つが銀八十シケルで売られ、はとのふん一カブの四分の一が銀五シケルで売られるようになった。
6:25 And there was a great famine in Samaria: and, behold, they besieged it, until an ass's head was sold for fourscore pieces of silver, and the fourth part of a cab of dove's dung for five pieces of silver.
6:26 イスラエルの王が城壁の上をとおっていた時、ひとりの女が彼に呼ばわって、「わが主、王よ、助けてください」と言ったので、
6:26 And as the king of Israel was passing by upon the wall, there cried a woman unto him, saying, Help, my lord, O king.
6:27 彼は言った、「もし主があなたを助けられないならば、何をもってわたしがあなたを助けることができよう。打ち場の物をもってか、酒ぶねの物をもってか」。
6:27 And he said, If the LORD do not help you, whence shall I help you? out of the barn floor, or out of the winepress?
6:28 そして王は女に尋ねた、「何事なのですか」。彼女は答えた、「この女はわたしにむかって『あなたの子をください。わたしたちは、きょうそれを食べ、あす、わたしの子を食べましょう』と言いました。
6:28 And the king said unto her, What disturbs you? And she answered, This woman said unto me, Give your son, that we may eat him to day, and we will eat my son tomorrow.
6:29 それでわたしたちは、まずわたしの子を煮て食べましたが、次の日わたしが彼女にむかって『あなたの子をください。わたしたちはそれを食べましょう』と言いますと、彼女はその子を隠しました」。
6:29 So we boiled my son, and did eat him: and I said unto her on the next day, Give your son, that we may eat him: and she has hid her son.
6:30 王はその女の言葉を聞いて、衣を裂き、――王は城壁の上をとおっていたが、民が見ると、その身に荒布を着けていた――
6:30 And it came to pass, when the king heard the words of the woman, that he rent his clothes; and he passed by upon the wall, and the people looked, and, behold, he had sackcloth within upon his flesh.
6:31 そして王は言った「きょう、シャパテの子エリシャの首がその肩の上にすわっているならば、神がどんなにでもわたしを罰してくださるように」。
6:31 Then he said, God do so and more also to me, if the head of Elisha the son of Shaphat shall stand on him this day.
6:32 さてエリシャはその家に座していたが、長老たちもきて彼と共に座した。王は自分の所から人をつかわしたが、エリシャはその使者がまだ着かないうちに長老たちに言った、「あなたがたは、この人を殺す者がわたしの首を取るために、人をつかわすのを見ますか。その使者がきたならば、戸を閉じて、内に入れてはなりません。彼のうろに、その主君の足音がするではありませんか」。
6:32 But Elisha sat in his house, and the elders sat with him; and the king sent a man from before him: but before the messenger came to him, he said to the elders, See all of you how this son of a murderer has sent to take away mine head? look, when the messenger comes, shut the door, and hold him fast at the door: is not the sound of his master's feet behind him?
6:33 彼がなお彼らと語っているうちに、王は彼のもとに下ってきて言った、「この災は主から出たのです。わたしはどうしてこの上、主を待たなければならないでしょうか」。
6:33 And while he yet talked with them, behold, the messenger came down unto him: and he said, Behold, this evil is of the LORD; what should I wait for the LORD any longer?
7:1 エリシャは言った、「主の言葉を聞きなさい。主はこう仰せられる、『あすの今ごろサマリヤの門で、麦粉一セアを一シケルで売り、大麦二セアを一シケルで売るようになるであろう』」。
7:1 Then Elisha said, Hear all of you the word of the LORD; Thus says the LORD, Tomorrow about this time shall a measure of fine flour be sold for a shekel, and two measures of barley for a shekel, in the gate of Samaria.
7:2 時にひとりの副官すなわち王がその人の手によりかかっていた者が神の人に答えて言った、「たとい主が天に窓を開かれても、そんな事がありえましょうか」。エリシャは言った、「あなたは自分の目をもってそれを見るであろう。しかしそれを食べることはなかろう」。
7:2 Then a lord on whose hand the king leaned answered the man of God, and said, Behold, if the LORD would make windows in heaven, might this thing be? And he said, Behold, you shall see it with yours eyes, but shall not eat thereof.
7:3 さて町の門の入口に四人のらい病人がいたが、彼らは互に言った、「われわれはどうしてここに座して死を待たねばならないのか。
7:3 And there were four leprous men at the entering in of the gate: and they said one to another, Why sit we here until we die?
7:4 われわれがもし町にはいろうといえば、町には食物が尽きているから、われわれはそこで死ぬであろう。しかしここに座していても死ぬのだ。いっその事、われわれはスリヤびとの陣営へ逃げて行こう。もし彼らがわれわれを生かしておいてくれるならば、助かるが、たといわれわれを殺しても死ぬばかりだ」。
7:4 If we say, We will enter into the city, then the famine is in the city, and we shall die there: and if we sit still here, we die also. Now therefore come, and let us fall unto the host of the Syrians: if they save us alive, we shall live; and if they kill us, we shall but die.
7:5 そこで彼らはスリヤびとの陣営へ行こうと、たそがれに立ちあがったが、スリヤびとの陣営のほとりに行って見ると、そこにはだれもいなかった。
7:5 And they rose up in the twilight, to go unto the camp of the Syrians: and when they were come to the uttermost part of the camp of Syria, behold, there was no man there.
7:6 これは主がスリヤびとの軍勢に戦車の音、馬の音、大軍の音を聞かせられたので、彼らは互に「見よ、イスラエルの王がわれわれを攻めるために、ヘテびとの王たちおよびエジプトの王たちを雇ってきて、われわれを襲うのだ」と言って、
7:6 For the LORD had made the host of the Syrians to hear a noise of chariots, and a noise of horses, even the noise of a great host: and they said one to another, Lo, the king of Israel has hired against us the kings of the Hittites, and the kings of the Egyptians, to come upon us.
7:7 たそがれに立って逃げ、その天幕と、馬と、ろばを捨て、陣営をそのままにしておいて、命を全うしようと逃げたからである。
7:7 Wherefore they arose and fled in the twilight, and left their tents, and their horses, and their asses, even the camp as it was, and fled for their life.
7:8 そこでらい病人たちは陣営のほとりに行き、一つの天幕にはいって食い飲みし、そこから金銀、衣服を持ち出してそれを隠し、また来て、他の天幕に入り、そこからも持ち出してそれを隠した。
7:8 And when these lepers came to the uttermost part of the camp, they went into one tent, and did eat and drink, and carried thence silver, and gold, and raiment, and went and hid it; and came again, and entered into another tent, and carried thence also, and went and hid it.
7:9 そして彼らは互に言った、「われわれのしている事はよくない。きょうは良いおとずれのある日であるのに、黙っていて、夜明けまで待つならば、われわれは罰をこうむるであろう。さあ、われわれは行って王の家族に告げよう」。
7:9 Then they said one to another, We do not well: this day is a day of good tidings, and we hold our peace: if we tarry till the morning light, some mischief will come upon us: now therefore come, that we may go and tell the king's household.
7:10 そこで彼らは来て、町の門を守る者を呼んで言った、「わたしたちがスリヤびとの陣営に行って見ると、そこにはだれの姿も見えず、また人声もなく、ただ、馬とろばがつないであり、天幕はそのままでした」。
7:10 So they came and called unto the gate keeper of the city: and they told them, saying, We came to the camp of the Syrians, and, behold, there was no man there, neither voice of man, but horses tied, and asses tied, and the tents as they were.
7:11 そこで門を守る者は呼ばわって、それを王の家族のうちに知らせた。
7:11 And he called the porters; and they told it to the king's house within.
7:12 王は夜のうちに起きて、家来たちに言った、「スリヤびとがわれわれに対して図っている事をあなたがたに告げよう。彼らは、われわれの飢えているのを知って、陣営を出て野に隠れ、『イスラエルびとが町を出たら、いけどりにして、町に押し入ろう』と考えているのだ」。
7:12 And the king arose in the night, and said unto his servants, I will now show you what the Syrians have done to us. They know that we be hungry; therefore are they gone out of the camp to hide themselves in the field, saying, When they come out of the city, we shall catch them alive, and get into the city.
7:13 家来のひとりが答えて言った、「人々に、ここに残っている馬のうち五頭を連れてこさせてください。ここに残っているこれらの人々は、すでに滅びうせたイスラエルの全群衆と同じ運命にあうのですから。わたしたちは人をやってうかがわせましょう」。
7:13 And one of his servants answered and said, Let some take, I pray you, five of the horses that remain, which are left in the city, (behold, they are as all the multitude of Israel that are left in it: behold, I say, they are even as all the multitude of the Israelites that are consumed:) and let us send and see.
7:14 そこで彼らはふたりの騎兵を選んだ。王はそれをつかわし、「行って見よ」と言って、スリヤびとの軍勢のあとをつけさせたので、
7:14 They took therefore two chariot horses; and the king sent after the host of the Syrians, saying, Go and see.
7:15 彼らはそのあとを追ってヨルダンまで行ったが、道にはすべて、スリヤびとがあわてて逃げる時に捨てていった衣服と武器が散らばっていた。その使者は帰ってきて、これを王に告げた。
7:15 And they went after them unto Jordan: and, lo, all the way was full of garments and vessels, which the Syrians had cast away in their haste. And the messengers returned, and told the king.
7:16 そこで民が出ていって、スリヤびとの陣営をかすめたので、麦粉一セアは一シケルで売られ、大麦二セアは一シケルで売られ、主の言葉のとおりになった。
7:16 And the people went out, and spoiled the tents of the Syrians. So a measure of fine flour was sold for a shekel, and two measures of barley for a shekel, according to the word of the LORD.
7:17 王は自分がその人の手によりかかっていた、あの副官を立てて門を管理させたが、民は門で彼を踏みつけたので、彼は死んだ。すなわち、王が神の人のところに下ってきた時、神の人が言ったとおりであった。
7:17 And the king appointed the lord on whose hand he leaned to have the charge of the gate: and the people trode upon him in the gate, and he died, as the man of God had said, who spoke when the king came down to him.
7:18 これは神の人が王にむかって、「あすの今ごろ、サマリヤの門で大麦二セアを一シケルで売り、麦粉一セアを一シケルで売るようになるであろう」と言ったときに、
7:18 And it came to pass as the man of God had spoken to the king, saying, Two measures of barley for a shekel, and a measure of fine flour for a shekel, shall be tomorrow about this time in the gate of Samaria:
7:19 その副官が神の人に答えて、「たとい主が天に窓を開かれても、そんな事がありえようか」と言ったからである。そのとき神の人は「あなたは自分の目をもってそれを見るであろう。しかしそれを食べることはなかろう」と言ったが、
7:19 And that lord answered the man of God, and said, Now, behold, if the LORD should make windows in heaven, might such a thing be? And he said, Behold, you shall see it with yours eyes, but shall not eat thereof.
7:20 これはそのとおり彼に臨んだ。すなわち民が門で彼を踏みつけたので彼は死んだ。
7:20 And so it fell out unto him: for the people trode upon him in the gate, and he died.
8:1 エリシャはかつて、その子を生きかえらせてやった女に言ったことがある。「あなたは、ここを立って、あなたの家族と共に行き、寄留しようと思う所に寄留しなさい。主がききんを呼び下されたので、七年の間それがこの地に臨むから」。
8:1 Then spoke Elisha unto the woman, whose son he had restored to life, saying, Arise, and go you and yours household, and sojourn where ever you can sojourn: for the LORD has called for a famine; and it shall also come upon the land seven years.
8:2 そこで女は立って神の人の言葉のようにし、その家族と共に行ってペリシテびとの地に七年寄留した。
8:2 And the woman arose, and did after the saying of the man of God: and she went with her household, and sojourned in the land of the Philistines seven years.
8:3 七年たって後、女はペリシテびとの地から帰ってきて、自分の家と畑のために王に訴えようと出ていった。
8:3 And it came to pass at the seven years' end, that the woman returned out of the land of the Philistines: and she went forth to cry unto the king for her house and for her land.
8:4 時に王は神の人のしもべゲハジにむかって「エリシャがしたもろもろの大きな事をわたしに話してください」と言って、彼と物語っていた。
8:4 And the king talked with Gehazi the servant of the man of God, saying, Tell me, I pray you, all the great things that Elisha has done.
8:5 すなわちエリシャが死人を生きかえらせた事を、ゲハジが王と物語っていたとき、その子を生きかえらせてもらった女が、自分の家と畑のために王に訴えてきたので、ゲハジは言った、「わが主、王よ、これがその女です。またこれがその子で、エリシャが生きかえらせたのです」。
8:5 And it came to pass, as he was telling the king how he had restored a dead body to life, that, behold, the woman, whose son he had restored to life, cried to the king for her house and for her land. And Gehazi said, My lord, O king, this is the woman, and this is her son, whom Elisha restored to life.
8:6 王がその女に尋ねると、彼女は王に話したので、王は彼女のためにひとりの役人に命じて言った、「すべて彼女に属する物、ならびに彼女がこの地を去った日から今までのその畑の産物をことごとく彼女に返しなさい」。
8:6 And when the king asked the woman, she told him. So the king appointed unto her a certain officer, saying, Restore all that was hers, and all the fruits of the field since the day that she left the land, even until now.
8:7 さてエリシャはダマスコに来た。時にスリヤの王ベネハダデは病気であったが、「神の人がここに来た」と告げる者があったので、
8:7 And Elisha came to Damascus; and Benhadad the king of Syria was sick; and it was told him, saying, The man of God has come here.
8:8 王はハザエルに言った、「贈り物を携えて行って神の人を迎え、彼によって主に『わたしのこの病気はなおりましょうか』と言って尋ねなさい」。
8:8 And the king said unto Hazael, Take a present in yours hand, and go, meet the man of God, and enquire of the LORD by him, saying, Shall I recover of this disease?
8:9 そこでハザエルは彼を迎えようと、ダマスコのもろもろの良い物をらくだ四十頭に載せ、贈り物として携え行き、エリシャの前に立って言った、「あなたの子、スリヤの王ベネハダデがわたしをあなたにつかわして、『わたしのこの病気はなおりましょうか』と言わせています」。
8:9 So Hazael went to meet him, and took a present with him, even of every good thing of Damascus, forty camels' burden, and came and stood before him, and said, Your son Benhadad king of Syria has sent me to you, saying, Shall I recover of this disease?
8:10 エリシャは彼に言った、「行って彼に『あなたは必ずなおります』と告げなさい。ただし主はわたしに、彼が必ず死ぬことを示されました」。
8:10 And Elisha said unto him, Go, say unto him, You may certainly recover: nevertheless the LORD has showed me that he shall surely die.
8:11 そして神の人がひとみを定めて彼の恥じるまでに見つめ、やがて泣き出したので、
8:11 And he settled his countenance steadfastly, until he was ashamed: and the man of God wept.
8:12 ハザエルは言った、「わが主よ、どうして泣かれるのですか」。エリシャは答えた、「わたしはあなたがイスラエルの人々にしようとする害悪を知っているからです。すなわち、あなたは彼らの城に火をかけ、つるぎをもって若者を殺し、幼な子を投げうち、妊娠の女を引き裂くでしょう」。
8:12 And Hazael said, Why weeps my lord? And he answered, Because I know the evil that you will do unto the children of Israel: their strong holds will you set on fire, and their young men will you slay with the sword, and will dash their children, and rip up their women with child.
8:13 ハザエルは言った、「しもべは一匹の犬にすぎないのに、どうしてそんな大きな事をすることができましょう」。エリシャは言った、「主がわたしに示されました。あなたはスリヤの王となるでしょう」。
8:13 And Hazael said, But what, is your servant a dog, that he should do this great thing? And Elisha answered, The LORD has showed me that you shall be king over Syria.
8:14 彼がエリシャのもとを去って、主君のところへ行くと、「エリシャはあなたになんと言ったか」と尋ねられたので、「あなたが必ずなおるでしょうと、彼はわたしに告げました」と答えた。
8:14 So he departed from Elisha, and came to his master; who said to him, What said Elisha to you? And he answered, He told me that you should surely recover.
8:15 しかし翌日になってハザエルは布を取って水に浸し、それをもって王の顔をおおったので、王は死んだ。ハザエルは彼に代って王となった。
8:15 And it came to pass on the next day, that he took a thick cloth, and dipped it in water, and spread it on his face, so that he died: and Hazael reigned in his position.
8:16 イスラエルの王アハブの子ヨラムの第五年に、ユダの王ヨシャパテの子ヨラムが位についた。
8:16 And in the fifth year of Joram the son of Ahab king of Israel, Jehoshaphat being then king of Judah, Jehoram the son of Je hoshaphat king of Judah began to reign.
8:17 彼は王となったとき三十二歳で、八年の間エルサレムで世を治めた。
8:17 Thirty and two years old was he when he began to reign; and he reigned eight years in Jerusalem.
8:18 彼はアハブの家がしたようにイスラエルの王たちの道に歩んだ。アハブの娘が彼の妻であったからである。彼は主の目の前に悪をおこなったが、
8:18 And he walked in the way of the kings of Israel, as did the house of Ahab: for the daughter of Ahab was his wife: and he did evil in the sight of the LORD.
8:19 主はしもべダビデのためにユダを滅ぼすことを好まれなかった。すなわち主は彼とその子孫に常にともしびを与えると、彼に約束されたからである。
8:19 Yet the LORD would not destroy Judah for David his servant's sake, as he promised him to give him always a light, and to his children.
8:20 ヨラムの世にエドムがそむいてユダの支配を脱し、みずから王を立てたので、
8:20 In his days Edom revolted from under the hand of Judah, and made a king over themselves.
8:21 ヨラムはすべての戦車を従えてザイルにわたって行き、その戦車の指揮官たちと共に、夜のうちに立ちあがって、彼を包囲しているエドムびとを撃った。しかしヨラムの軍隊は天幕に逃げ帰った。
8:21 So Joram went over to Zair, and all the chariots with him: and he rose by night, and stroke the Edomites which compassed him about, and the captains of the chariots: and the people fled into their tents.
8:22 エドムはこのようにそむいてユダの支配を脱し、今日に至っている。リブナもまた同時にそむいた。
8:22 Yet Edom revolted from under the hand of Judah unto this day. Then Libnah revolted at the same time.
8:23 ヨラムのその他の事績および彼がしたすべての事は、ユダの歴代志の書にしるされているではないか。
8:23 And the rest of the acts of Joram, and all that he did, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah?
8:24 ヨラムはその先祖たちと共に眠って、ダビデの町にその先祖たちと共に葬られ、その子アハジヤが代って王となった。
8:24 And Joram slept with his fathers, and was buried with his fathers in the city of David: and Ahaziah his son reigned in his position.
8:25 イスラエルの王アハブの子ヨラムの第十二年にユダの王ヨラムの子アハジヤが位についた。
8:25 In the twelfth year of Joram the son of Ahab king of Israel did Ahaziah the son of Jehoram king of Judah begin to reign.
8:26 アハジヤは王となったとき二十二歳で、エルサレムで一年世を治めた。その母は名をアタリヤと言って、イスラエルの王オムリの孫娘であった。
8:26 Two and twenty years old was Ahaziah when he began to reign; and he reigned one year in Jerusalem. And his mother's name was Athaliah, the daughter of Omri king of Israel.
8:27 アハジヤはまたアハブの家の道に歩み、アハブの家がしたように主の目の前に悪をおこなった。彼はアハブの家の婿であったからである。
8:27 And he walked in the way of the house of Ahab, and did evil in the sight of the LORD, as did the house of Ahab: for he was the son in law of the house of Ahab.
8:28 彼はアハブの子ヨラムと共に行って、スリヤの王ハザエルとラモテ・ギレアデで戦ったが、スリヤびとらはヨラムに傷を負わせた。
8:28 And he went with Joram the son of Ahab to the war against Hazael king of Syria in Ramothgilead; and the Syrians wounded Joram.
8:29 ヨラム王はそのスリヤの王ハザエルと戦うときにラマでスリヤびとに負わされた傷をいやすため、エズレルに帰ったが、ユダの王ヨラムの子アハジヤはアハブの子ヨラムが病んでいたので、エズレルに下って彼をおとずれた。
8:29 And king Joram went back to be healed in Jezreel of the wounds which the Syrians had given him at Ramah, when he fought against Hazael king of Syria. And Ahaziah the son of Jehoram king of Judah went down to see Joram the son of Ahab in Jezreel, because he was sick.
9:1 時に預言者エリシャは預言者のともがらのひとりを呼んで言った、「腰をひきからげ、この油のびんを携えて、ラモテ・ギレアデへ行きなさい。
9:1 And Elisha the prophet called one of the children of the prophets, and said unto him, Gird up your loins, and take this box of oil in yours hand, and go to Ramothgilead:
9:2 そこに着いたならば、ニムシの子ヨシャパテの子であるエヒウを尋ね出し、内にはいって彼をその同僚たちのうちから立たせて、奥の間に連れて行き、
9:2 And when you come thither, look out there Jehu the son of Jehoshaphat the son of Nimshi, and go in, and make him arise up from among his brethren, and carry him to an inner chamber;
9:3 油のびんを取って、その頭に注ぎ、『主はこう仰せられる、わたしはあなたに油を注いでイスラエルの王とする』と言い、そして戸をあけて逃げ去りなさい。とどまってはならない」。
9:3 Then take the box of oil, and pour it on his head, and say, Thus says the LORD, I have anointed you king over Israel. Then open the door, and flee, and tarry not.
9:4 そこで預言者であるその若者はラモテ・ギレアデへ行ったが、
9:4 So the young man, even the young man the prophet, went to Ramothgilead.
9:5 来て見ると、軍勢の長たちが会議中であったので、彼は「将軍よ、わたしはあなたに申しあげる事があります」と言うと、エヒウが答えて、「われわれすべてのうちの、だれにですか」と言ったので、彼は「将軍よ、あなたにです」と言った。
9:5 And when he came, behold, the captains of the host were sitting; and he said, I have an errand to you, O captain. And Jehu said, Unto which of all us? And he said, To you, O captain.
9:6 するとエヒウが立ちあがって家にはいったので、若者はその頭に油を注いで彼に言った、「イスラエルの神、主はこう仰せられます、『わたしはあなたに油を注いで、主の民イスラエルの王とする。
9:6 And he arose, and went into the house; and he poured the oil on his head, and said unto him, Thus says the LORD God of Israel, I have anointed you king over the people of the LORD, even over Israel.
9:7 あなたは主君アハブの家を撃ち滅ぼさなければならない。それによってわたしは、わたしのしもべである預言者たちの血と、主のすべてのしもべたちの血をイゼベルに報いる。
9:7 And you shall strike the house of Ahab your master, that I may avenge the blood of my servants the prophets, and the blood of all the servants of the LORD, at the hand of Jezebel.
9:8 アハブの全家は滅びるであろう。アハブに属する男は、イスラエルにいて、つながれた者も、自由な者も、ことごとくわたしは断ち、
9:8 For the whole house of Ahab shall perish: and I will cut off from Ahab him that pisses against the wall, and him that is shut up and left in Israel:
9:9 アハブの家をネバテの子ヤラベアムのようにし、アヒヤの子バアシャの家のようにする。
9:9 And I will make the house of Ahab like the house of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, and like the house of Baasha the son of Ahijah:
9:10 犬がイズレルの地域でイゼベルを食い、彼女を葬る者はないであろう』」。そして彼は戸をあけて逃げ去った。
9:10 And the dogs shall eat Jezebel in the portion of Jezreel, and there shall be none to bury her. And he opened the door, and fled.
9:11 やがてエヒウが主君の家来たちの所へ出て来ると、彼らはエヒウに言った、「変った事はありませんか。あの気が変な人は、なんのためにあなたの所にきたのですか」。エヒウは彼らに言った、「あなたがたは、あの人を知っています。またその言う事も知っています」。
9:11 Then Jehu came forth to the servants of his lord: and one said unto him, Is all well? wherefore came this mad fellow to you? And he said unto them, All of you know the man, and his communication.
9:12 彼らは言った、「それは違います。どうぞわれわれに話してください」。そこでエヒウは言った、「彼はこうこう、わたしに告げて言いました、『主はこう仰せられる、わたしはあなたに油を注いで、イスラエルの王とする』」。
9:12 And they said, It is false; tell us now. And he said, Thus and thus spoke he to me, saying, Thus says the LORD, I have anointed you king over Israel.
9:13 すると彼らは急いで、おのおの衣服をとり、それを階段の上のエヒウの下に敷き、ラッパを吹いて「エヒウは王である」と言った。
9:13 Then they hasted, and took every man his garment, and put it under him on the top of the stairs, and blew with trumpets, saying, Jehu is king.
9:14 こうしてニムシの子であるヨシャパテの子エヒウはヨラムにそむいた。（ヨラムはイスラエルをことごとく率いて、ラモテ・ギレアデでスリヤの王ハザエルを防いだが、
9:14 So Jehu the son of Jehoshaphat the son of Nimshi conspired against Joram. (Now Joram had kept Ramothgilead, he and all Israel, because of Hazael king of Syria.
9:15 ヨラム王はスリヤの王ハザエルと戦った時に、スリヤびとに負わされた傷をいやすため、エズレルに帰っていた。）エヒウは言った、「もしこれがあなたがたの本心であるならば、ひとりもこの町から忍び出て、これをエズレルに告げてはならない」。
9:15 But king Joram was returned to be healed in Jezreel of the wounds which the Syrians had given him, when he fought with Hazael king of Syria.) And Jehu said, If it be your minds, then let none go forth nor escape out of the city to go to tell it in Jezreel.
9:16 そしてエヒウは車に乗ってエズレルへ行った。ヨラムがそこに伏していたからである。またユダの王アハジヤはヨラムを見舞うために下っていた。
9:16 So Jehu rode in a chariot, and went to Jezreel; for Joram lay there. And Ahaziah king of Judah was come down to see Joram.
9:17 さてエズレルのやぐらに、ひとりの物見が立っていたが、エヒウの群衆が来るのを見て、「群衆が見える」と言ったので、ヨラムは言った、「ひとりを馬に乗せてつかわし、それに会わせて『平安ですか』と言わせなさい」。
9:17 And there stood a watchman on the tower in Jezreel, and he spied the company of Jehu as he came, and said, I see a company. And Joram said, Take an horseman, and send to meet them, and let him say, Is it peace?
9:18 そこでひとりが馬に乗って行き、彼に会って言った、「王はこう仰せられます、『平安ですか』」。エヒウ言った、「あなたは平安となんの関係がありますか。わたしのあとについてきなさい」。物見はまた告げて言った、「使者は彼らの所へ行きましたが、帰ってきません」。
9:18 So there went one on horseback to meet him, and said, Thus says the king, Is it peace? And Jehu said, What have you to do with peace? turn you behind me. And the watchman told, saying, The messenger came to them, but he comes not again.
9:19 そこで再び人を馬でつかわしたので、彼らの所へ行って言った、「王はこう仰せられます、『平安ですか』」。エヒウは答えて言った、「あなたは平安となんの関係がありますか。わたしのあとについてきなさい」。
9:19 Then he sent out a second on horseback, which came to them, and said, Thus says the king, Is it peace? And Jehu answered, What have you to do with peace? turn you behind me.
9:20 物見はまた告げて言った、「彼も、彼らの所へ行きましたが帰ってきません。あの車の操縦はニムシの子エヒウの操縦するのに似て、猛烈な勢いで操縦して来ます」。
9:20 And the watchman told, saying, He came even unto them, and comes not again: and the driving is like the driving of Jehu the son of Nimshi; for he drives furiously.
9:21 そこでヨラムが「車を用意せよ」と言ったので、車を用意すると、イスラエルの王ヨラムと、ユダの王アハジヤは、おのおのその車で出て行った。すなわちエヒウに会うために出ていって、エズレルびとナボテの地所で彼に会った。
9:21 And Joram said, Make ready. And his chariot was made ready. And Joram king of Israel and Ahaziah king of Judah went out, each in his chariot, and they went out against Jehu, and met him in the portion of Naboth the Jezreelite.
9:22 ヨラムはエヒウを見て言った、「エヒウよ、平安ですか」。エヒウは答えた、「あなたの母イゼベルの姦淫と魔術とが、こんなに多いのに、どうして平安でありえましょうか」。
9:22 And it came to pass, when Joram saw Jehu, that he said, Is it peace, Jehu? And he answered, What peace, so long as the whoredoms of your mother Jezebel and her witchcrafts are so many?
9:23 その時ヨラムは車をめぐらして逃げ、アハジヤにむかって、「アハジヤよ、反逆です」と言うと、
9:23 And Joram turned his hands, and fled, and said to Ahaziah, There is treachery, O Ahaziah.
9:24 エヒウは手に弓をひきしぼって、ヨラムの両肩の間を射たので、矢は彼の心臓を貫き、彼は車の中に倒れた。
9:24 And Jehu drew a bow with his full strength, and stroke Jehoram between his arms, and the arrow went out at his heart, and he sunk down in his chariot.
9:25 エヒウはその副官ビデカルに言った、「彼を取りあげて、エズレルびとナボテの畑に投げ捨てなさい。かつて、わたしとあなたと、ふたり共に乗って、彼の父アハブに従ったとき、主が彼について、この預言をされたことを記憶しなさい。
9:25 Then said Jehu to Bidkar his captain, Take up, and cast him in the portion of the field of Naboth the Jezreelite: for remember how that, when I and you rode together after Ahab his father, the LORD laid this burden upon him;
9:26 すなわち主は言われた、『まことに、わたしはきのうナボテの血と、その子らの血を見た』。また主は言われた、『わたしはこの地所であなたに報復する』と。それゆえ彼を取りあげて、その地所に投げすて、主の言葉のようにしなさい」。
9:26 Surely I have seen yesterday the blood of Naboth, and the blood of his sons, says the LORD; and I will requite you in this portion, says the LORD. Now therefore take and cast him into the portion of ground, according to the word of the LORD.
9:27 ユダの王アハジヤはこれを見てベテハガンの方へ逃げたが、エヒウはそのあとを追い、「彼をも撃て」と言ったので、イブレアムのほとりのグルの坂で車の中の彼を撃った。彼はメギドまで逃げていって、そこで死んだ。
9:27 But when Ahaziah the king of Judah saw this, he fled by the way of the garden house. And Jehu followed after him, and said, Strike him also in the chariot. And they did so at the going up to Gur, which is by Ibleam. And he fled to Megiddo, and died there.
9:28 その家来たちは彼を車に載せてエルサレムに運び、ダビデの町で彼の墓にその先祖たちと共に葬った。
9:28 And his servants carried him in a chariot to Jerusalem, and buried him in his tomb with his fathers in the city of David.
9:29 アハブの子ヨラムの第十一年にアハジヤはユダの王となったのである。
9:29 And in the eleventh year of Joram the son of Ahab began Ahaziah to reign over Judah.
9:30 エヒウがエズレルにきた時、イゼベルはそれを聞いて、その目を塗り、髪を飾って窓から望み見たが、
9:30 And when Jehu was come to Jezreel, Jezebel heard of it; and she painted her face, and tired her head, and looked out at a window.
9:31 エヒウが門にはいってきたので、「主君を殺したジムリよ、無事ですか」と言った。
9:31 And as Jehu entered in at the gate, she said, Had Zimri peace, who slew his master?
9:32 するとエヒウは顔をあげて窓にむかい、「だれか、わたしに味方する者があるか。だれかあるか」と言うと、二、三人の宦官がエヒウを望み見たので、
9:32 And he lifted up his face to the window, and said, Who is on my side? who? And there looked out to him two or three eunuchs.
9:33 エヒウは「彼女を投げ落せ」と言った。彼らは彼女を投げ落したので、その血が壁と馬とにはねかかった。そして馬は彼女を踏みつけた。
9:33 And he said, Throw her down. So they threw her down: and some of her blood was sprinkled on the wall, and on the horses: and he trode her under foot.
9:34 エヒウは内にはいって食い飲みし、そして言った、「あののろわれた女を見、彼女を葬りなさい。彼女は王の娘なのだ」。
9:34 And when he was come in, he did eat and drink, and said, Go, see now this cursed woman, and bury her: for she is a king's daughter.
9:35 しかし彼らが彼女を葬ろうとして行って見ると、頭蓋骨と、足と、たなごころのほか何もなかったので、
9:35 And they went to bury her: but they found no more of her than the skull, and the feet, and the palms of her hands.
9:36 帰って、彼に告げると、彼は言った、「これは主が、そのしもべ、テシベびとエリヤによってお告げになった言葉である。すなわち『エズレルの地で犬がイゼベルの肉を食うであろう。
9:36 Wherefore they came again, and told him. And he said, This is the word of the LORD, which he spoke by his servant Elijah the Tishbite, saying, In the portion of Jezreel shall dogs eat the flesh of Jezebel:
9:37 イゼベルの死体はエズレルの地で、糞土のように野のおもてに捨てられて、だれも、これはイゼベルだ、と言うことができないであろう』」。
9:37 And the carcass of Jezebel shall be as dung upon the face of the field in the portion of Jezreel; so that they shall not say, This is Jezebel.
10:1 アハブはサマリヤに七十人の子供があった。エヒウは手紙をしたためてサマリヤに送り、町のつかさたちと、長老たちと、アハブの子供の守役たちとに伝えて言った、
10:1 And Ahab had seventy sons in Samaria. And Jehu wrote letters, and sent to Samaria, unto the rulers of Jezreel, to the elders, and to them that brought up Ahab's children, saying,
10:2 「あなたがたの主君の子供たちがあなたがたと共におり、また戦車も馬も、堅固な町も武器もあるのだから、この手紙があなたがたのもとに届いたならば、すぐ、
10:2 Now as soon as this letter comes to you, seeing your master's sons are with you, and there are with you chariots and horses, a fenced city also, and armour;
10:3 あなたがたは主君の子供たちのうち最もすぐれた、最も適当な者を選んで、その父の位にすえ、主君の家のために戦いなさい」。
10:3 Look even out the best and fittest of your master's sons, and set him on his father's throne, and fight for your master's house.
10:4 彼らは大いに恐れて言った、「ふたりの王たちがすでに彼に当ることができなかったのに、われわれがどうして当ることができよう」。
10:4 But they were exceedingly afraid, and said, Behold, two kings stood not before him: how then shall we stand?
10:5 そこで宮廷のつかさ、町のつかさ、長老たちと守役たちはエヒウに人をつかわして言った、「わたしたちは、あなたのしもべです。すべてあなたが命じられる事をいたします。わたしたちは王を立てることを好みません。あなたがよいと思われることをしてください」。
10:5 And he that was over the house, and he that was over the city, the elders also, and the bringers up of the children, sent to Jehu, saying, We are your servants, and will do all that you shall bid us; we will not make any king: do you that which is good in yours eyes.
10:6 そこでエヒウは再び彼らに手紙を書き送って言った、「もしあなたがたが、わたしに味方し、わたしに従おうとするならば、あなたがたの主君の子供たちの首を取って、あすの今ごろエズレルにいるわたしのもとに持ってきなさい」。そのころ、王の子供たち七十人は彼らを育てていた町のおもだった人々と共にいた。
10:6 Then he wrote a letter the second time to them, saying, If all of you be mine, and if all of you will hearken unto my voice, take all of you the heads of the men your master's sons, and come to me to Jezreel by tomorrow this time. Now the king's sons, being seventy persons, were with the great men of the city, which brought them up.
10:7 彼らはその手紙を受け取ると、王の子供たちを捕えて、その七十人をことごとく殺し、その首をかごにつめて、エズレルにいるエヒウのもとに送った。
10:7 And it came to pass, when the letter came to them, that they took the king's sons, and slew seventy persons, and put their heads in baskets, and sent him them to Jezreel.
10:8 使者が来て、エヒウに告げ、「人々が王の子供たちの首を持ってきました」と言うと、「あくる朝までそれを門の入口に、ふた山に積んでおけ」と言った。
10:8 And there came a messenger, and told him, saying, They have brought the heads of the king's sons. And he said, Lay all of you them in two heaps at the entering in of the gate until the morning.
10:9 朝になると、彼は出て行って立ち、すべての民に言った、「あなたがたは正しい。主君にそむいて彼を殺したのはわたしです。しかしこのすべての者どもを殺したのはだれですか。
10:9 And it came to pass in the morning, that he went out, and stood, and said to all the people, All of you be righteous: behold, I conspired against my master, and slew him: but who slew all these?
10:10 これであなたがたは、主がアハブの家について告げられた主の言葉は一つも地に落ちないことを知りなさい。主は、そのしもべエリヤによってお告げになった事をなし遂げられたのです」。
10:10 Know now that there shall fall unto the earth nothing of the word of the LORD, which the LORD spoke concerning the house of Ahab: for the LORD has done that which he spoke by his servant Elijah.
10:11 こうしてエヒウは、アハブの家に属する者でエズレルに残っている者をことごとく殺し、またそのすべてのおもだった者、その親しい者およびその祭司たちを殺して、彼に属する者はひとりも残さなかった。
10:11 So Jehu slew all that remained of the house of Ahab in Jezreel, and all his great men, and his kinsfolks, and his priests, until he left him none remaining.
10:12 さてエヒウは立ってサマリヤへ行ったが、途中、牧者の集まり場で、
10:12 And he arose and departed, and came to Samaria. And as he was at the shearing house in the way,
10:13 ユダの王アハジヤの身内の人々に会い、「あなたがたはどなたですか」と言うと、「わたしたちはアハジヤの身内の者ですが、王の子供たちと、王母の子供たちの安否を問うために下ってきたのです」と答えたので、
10:13 Jehu met with the brethren of Ahaziah king of Judah, and said, Who are all of you? And they answered, We are the brethren of Ahaziah; and we go down to salute the children of the king and the children of the queen.
10:14 エヒウは「彼らをいけどれ」と命じた。そこで彼らをいけどって、集まり場の穴のかたわらで彼ら四十二人をことごとく殺し、ひとりをも残さなかった。
10:14 And he said, Take them alive. And they took them alive, and slew them at the pit of the shearing house, even two and forty men; neither left he any of them.
10:15 エヒウはそこを立って行ったが、自分を迎えにきたレカブの子ヨナダブに会ったので、彼にあいさつして、「あなたの心は、わたしがあなたに対するように真実ですか」と言うと、ヨナダブは「真実です」と答えた。するとエヒウは「それならば、あなたの手をわたしに伸べなさい」と言ったので、その手を伸べると、彼を引いて自分車に上らせ、
10:15 And when he was departed thence, he lighted on Jehonadab the son of Rechab coming to meet him: and he saluted him, and said to him, Is yours heart right, as my heart is with your heart? And Jehonadab answered, It is. If it be, give me yours hand. And he gave him his hand; and he took him up to him into the chariot.
10:16 「わたしと一緒にきて、わたしが主に熱心なのを見なさい」と言った。そして彼を自分の車に乗せ、
10:16 And he said, Come with me, and see my zeal for the LORD. So they made him ride in his chariot.
10:17 サマリヤへ行って、アハブに属する者で、サマリヤに残っている者をことごとく殺して、その一族を滅ぼした。主がエリヤにお告げになった言葉のとおりである。
10:17 And when he came to Samaria, he slew all that remained unto Ahab in Samaria, till he had destroyed him, according to the saying of the LORD, which he spoke to Elijah.
10:18 次いでエヒウは民をことごとく集めて彼らに言った、「アハブは少しばかりバアルに仕えたが、エヒウは大いにこれに仕えるであろう。
10:18 And Jehu gathered all the people together, and said unto them, Ahab served Baal a little; but Jehu shall serve him much.
10:19 それゆえ、今バアルのすべての預言者、すべての礼拝者、すべての祭司をわたしのもとに召しなさい。ひとりもこない者のないようにしなさい。わたしは大いなる犠牲をバアルにささげようとしている。すべてこない者は生かしておかない」。しかしエヒウはバアルの礼拝者たちを滅ぼすために偽ってこうしたのである。
10:19 Now therefore call unto me all the prophets of Baal, all his servants, and all his priests; let none be lacking: for I have a great sacrifice to do to Baal; whosoever shall be lacking, he shall not live. But Jehu did it in subtlety, to the intent that he might destroy the worshippers of Baal.
10:20 そしてエヒウは「バアルのために聖会を催しなさい」と命じたので、彼らはこれを布告した。
10:20 And Jehu said, Proclaim a solemn assembly for Baal. And they proclaimed it.
10:21 エヒウはあまねくイスラエルに人をつかわしたので、バアルの礼拝者たちはことごとく来た。こないで残った者はひとりもなかった。彼らはバアルの宮にはいったので、バアルの宮は端から端までいっぱいになった。
10:21 And Jehu sent through all Israel: and all the worshippers of Baal came, so that there was not a man left that came not. And they came into the house of Baal; and the house of Baal was full from one end to another.
10:22 その時エヒウは衣装をつかさどる者に「祭服を取り出してバアルのすべての礼拝者に与えよ」と言ったので、彼らのために祭服を取り出した。
10:22 And he said unto him that was over the vestry, Bring forth vestments for all the worshippers of Baal. And he brought them forth vestments.
10:23 そしてエヒウはレカブの子ヨナダブと共にバアルの宮に入り、バアルの礼拝者たちに言った、「調べてみて、ここにはただバアルの礼拝者のみで、主のしもべはひとりも、あなたがたのうちにいないようにしなさい」。
10:23 And Jehu went, and Jehonadab the son of Rechab, into the house of Baal, and said unto the worshippers of Baal, Search, and look that there be here with you none of the servants of the LORD, but the worshippers of Baal only.
10:24 こうして彼は犠牲と燔祭とをささげるためにはいった。さてエヒウは八十人の者を外に置いて言った、「わたしがあなたがたの手に渡す者をひとりでも逃す者は、自分の命をもってその人の命に換えなければならない」。
10:24 And when they went in to offer sacrifices and burnt offerings, Jehu appointed fourscore men without, and said, If any of the men whom I have brought into your hands escape, he that lets him go, his life shall be for the life of him.
10:25 こうして燔祭をささげることが終ったとき、エヒウはその侍衛と将校たちに言った、「はいって彼らを殺せ。ひとりも逃がしてはならない」。侍衛と将校たちはつるぎをもって彼らを撃ち殺し、それを投げ出して、バアルの宮の本殿に入り、
10:25 And it came to pass, as soon as he had made an end of offering the burnt offering, that Jehu said to the guard and to the captains, Go in, and slay them; let none come forth. And they stroke them with the edge of the sword; and the guard and the captains cast them out, and went to the city of the house of Baal.
10:26 バアルの宮にある柱の像を取り出して、それを焼いた。
10:26 And they brought forth the images out of the house of Baal, and burned them.
10:27 また彼らはバアルの石柱をこわし、バアルの宮をこわして、かわやとしたが今日まで残っている。
10:27 And they brake down the image of Baal, and brake down the house of Baal, and made it a draught house unto this day.
10:28 このようにエヒウはイスラエルのうちからバアルを一掃した。
10:28 Thus Jehu destroyed Baal out of Israel.
10:29 しかしエヒウはイスラエルに罪を犯させたネバテの子ヤラベアムの罪、すなわちベテルとダンにある金の子牛に仕えることをやめなかった。
10:29 Nevertheless from the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who made Israel to sin, Jehu departed not from after them, to know, the golden calves that were in Bethel, and that were in Dan.
10:30 主はエヒウに言われた、「あなたはわたしの目にかなう事を行うにあたって、よくそれを行い、またわたしの心にあるすべての事をアハブの家にしたので、あなたの子孫は四代までイスラエルの位に座するであろう」。
10:30 And the LORD said unto Jehu, Because you have done well in executing that which is right in mine eyes, and have done unto the house of Ahab according to all that was in mine heart, your children of the fourth generation shall sit on the throne of Israel.
10:31 しかしエヒウはイスラエルの神、主の律法を心をつくして守り行おうとはせず、イスラエルに罪を犯させたヤラベアムの罪を離れなかった。
10:31 But Jehu took no heed to walk in the law of the LORD God of Israel with all his heart: for he departed not from the sins of Jeroboam, which made Israel to sin.
10:32 この時にあたって、主はイスラエルの領地を切り取ることを始められた。すなわちハザエルはイスラエルのすべての領域を侵し、
10:32 In those days the LORD began to cut Israel short: and Hazael stroke them in all the coasts of Israel;
10:33 ヨルダンの東で、ギレアデの全地、カドびと、ルベンびと、マナセびとの地を侵し、アルノン川のほとりにあるアロエルからギレアデとバシャンに及んだ。
10:33 From Jordan eastward, all the land of Gilead, the Gadites, and the Reubenites, and the Manassites, from Aroer, which is by the river Arnon, even Gilead and Bashan.
10:34 エヒウのその他の事績と、彼がしたすべての事およびその武勇は、ことごとくイスラエルの王の歴代志の書にしるされているではないか。
10:34 Now the rest of the acts of Jehu, and all that he did, and all his might, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?
10:35 エヒウはその先祖たちと共に眠ったので、彼をサマリヤに葬った。その子エホアハズが代って王となった。
10:35 And Jehu slept with his fathers: and they buried him in Samaria. And Jehoahaz his son reigned in his position.
10:36 エヒウがサマリヤでイスラエルを治めたのは二十八年であった。
10:36 And the time that Jehu reigned over Israel in Samaria was twenty and eight years.
11:1 さてアハジヤの母アタリヤはその子の死んだのを見て、立って王の一族をことごとく滅ぼしたが、
11:1 And when Athaliah the mother of Ahaziah saw that her son was dead, she arose and destroyed all the seed royal.
11:2 ヨラム王の娘で、アハジヤの姉妹であるエホシバはアハジヤの子ヨアシを、殺されようとしている王の子たちのうちから盗み取り、彼とそのうばとを寝室に入れて、アタリヤに隠したので、彼はついに殺されなかった。
11:2 But Jehosheba, the daughter of king Joram, sister of Ahaziah, took Joash the son of Ahaziah, and stole him from among the king's sons which were slain; and they hid him, even him and his nurse, in the bedchamber from Athaliah, so that he was not slain.
11:3 ヨアシはうばと共に六年の間、主の宮に隠れていたが、その間アタリヤが国を治めた。
11:3 And he was with her hid in the house of the LORD six years. And Athaliah did reign over the land.
11:4 第七年になってエホヤダは人をつかわして、カリびとと近衛兵との大将たちを招きよせ、主の宮にいる自分のもとにこさせ、彼らと契約を結び、主の宮で彼らに誓いをさせて王の子を見せ、
11:4 And the seventh year Jehoiada sent and fetched the rulers over hundreds, with the captains and the guard, and brought them to him into the house of the LORD, and made a covenant with them, and took an oath of them in the house of the LORD, and showed them the king's son.
11:5 命じて言った、「あなたがたのする事はこれです、すなわち、安息日に非番となって王の家を守るあなたがたの三分の一は、
11:5 And he commanded them, saying, This is the thing that all of you shall do; A third part of you that enter in on the sabbath shall even be keepers of the watch of the king's house;
11:6 宮殿を守らなければならない。（他の三分の一はスルの門におり、三分の一は近衛兵のうしろの門におる）。
11:6 And a third part shall be at the gate of Sur; and a third part at the gate behind the guard: so shall all of you keep the watch of the house, that it be not broken down.
11:7 すべて安息日に当番で主の宮を守るあなたがたの二つの部隊は、
11:7 And two parts of all you that go forth on the sabbath, even they shall keep the watch of the house of the LORD about the king.
11:8 おのおのの武器を手に取って王のまわりに立たなければならない。すべて列に近よる者は殺されなければならない。あなたがたは王が出る時にも、はいる時にも王と共にいなければならない」。
11:8 And all of you shall compass the king round about, every man with his weapons in his hand: and he that comes within the ranges, let him be slain: and be all of you with the king as he goes out and as he comes in.
11:9 そこでその大将たちは祭司エホヤダがすべて命じたとおりにおこなった。すなわち彼らはおのおの安息日に非番となる者と、安息日に当番となる者とを率いて祭司エホヤダのもとにきたので、
11:9 And the captains over the hundreds did according to all things that Jehoiada the priest commanded: and they took every man his men that were to come in on the sabbath, with them that should go out on the sabbath, and came to Jehoiada the priest.
11:10 祭司は主の宮にあるダビデ王のやりと盾を大将たちに渡した。
11:10 And to the captains over hundreds did the priest give king David's spears and shields, that were in the temple of the LORD.
11:11 近衛兵はおのおの手に武器をとって主の宮の南側から北側まで、祭壇と宮を取り巻いて立った。
11:11 And the guard stood, every man with his weapons in his hand, round about the king, from the right corner of the temple to the left corner of the temple, along by the altar and the temple.
11:12 そこでエホヤダは王の子をつれ出して冠をいただかせ、律法の書を渡し、彼を王と宣言して油を注いだので、人々は手を打って「王万歳」と言った。
11:12 And he brought forth the king's son, and put the crown upon him, and gave him the testimony; and they made him king, and anointed him; and they clapped their hands, and said, God save the king.
11:13 アタリヤは近衛兵と民の声を聞いて、主の宮に入り、民のところへ行って、
11:13 And when Athaliah heard the noise of the guard and of the people, she came to the people into the temple of the LORD.
11:14 見ると、王は慣例にしたがって柱のかたわらに立ち、王のかたわらには大将たちとラッパ手たちが立ち、また国の民は皆喜んでラッパを吹いていたので、アタリヤはその衣を裂いて、「反逆です、反逆です」と叫んだ。
11:14 And when she looked, behold, the king stood by a pillar, as the manner was, and the princes and the trumpeters by the king, and all the people of the land rejoiced, and blew with trumpets: and Athaliah rent her clothes, and cried, Treason, Treason.
11:15 その時祭司エホヤダは軍勢を指揮していた大将たちに命じて、「彼女を列の間をとおって出て行かせ、彼女に従う者をつるぎをもって殺しなさい」と言った。これは祭司がさきに「彼女を主の宮で殺してはならない」と言ったからである。
11:15 But Jehoiada the priest commanded the captains of the hundreds, the officers of the host, and said unto them, Have her forth without the ranges: and him that follows her kill with the sword. For the priest had said, Let her not be slain in the house of the LORD.
11:16 そこで彼らは彼女を捕え、王の家の馬道へ連れて行ったが、彼女はついにそこで殺された。
11:16 And they laid hands on her; and she went by the way by the which the horses came into the king's house: and there was she slain.
11:17 かくてエホヤダは主と王および民との間に、皆主の民となるという契約を立てさせ、また王と民との間にもそれを立てさせた。
11:17 And Jehoiada made a covenant between the LORD and the king and the people, that they should be the LORD's people; between the king also and the people.
11:18 そこで国の民は皆バアルの宮に行って、これをこわし、その祭壇とその像を打ち砕き、バアルの祭司マッタンをその祭壇の前で殺した。そして祭司は主の宮に管理人を置いた。
11:18 And all the people of the land went into the house of Baal, and brake it down; his altars and his images brake they in pieces thoroughly, and slew Mattan the priest of Baal before the altars. And the priest appointed officers over the house of the LORD.
11:19 次いでエホヤダは大将たちと、カリびとと、近衛兵と国のすべての民を率いて、主の宮から王を導き下り、近衛兵の門の道から王の家に入り、王の位に座せしめた。
11:19 And he took the rulers over hundreds, and the captains, and the guard, and all the people of the land; and they brought down the king from the house of the LORD, and came by the way of the gate of the guard to the king's house. And he sat on the throne of the kings.
11:20 こうして国の民は皆喜び、町はアタリヤが王の家でつるぎをもって殺されてのち、おだやかになった。
11:20 And all the people of the land rejoiced, and the city was in quiet: and they slew Athaliah with the sword beside the king's house.
11:21 ヨアシは位についた時七歳であった。
11:21 Seven years old was Jehoash when he began to reign.
12:1 ヨアシはエヒウの第七年に位につき、エルサレムで四十年の間、世を治めた。その母はベエルシバの出身で、名をヂビアといった。
12:1 In the seventh year of Jehu Jehoash began to reign; and forty years reigned he in Jerusalem. And his mother's name was Zibiah of Beersheba.
12:2 ヨアシは一生の間、主の目にかなう事をおこなった。祭司エホヤダが彼を教えたからである。
12:2 And Jehoash did that which was right in the sight of the LORD all his days wherein Jehoiada the priest instructed him.
12:3 しかし高き所は除かなかったので、民はなおその高き所で犠牲をささげ、香をたいた。
12:3 But the high places were not taken away: the people still sacrificed and burnt incense in the high places.
12:4 ヨアシは祭司たちに言った、「すべて主の宮に聖別してささげる銀、すなわちおのおのが課せられて、割当にしたがって人々の出す銀、および人々が心から願って主の宮の持ってくる銀は、
12:4 And Jehoash said to the priests, All the money of the dedicated things that is brought into the house of the LORD, even the money of every one that passes the account, the money that every man is set at, and all the money that comes into any man's heart to bring into the house of the LORD,
12:5 これを祭司たちがおのおのその知る人から受け取り、どこでも主の宮に破れの見える時は、それをもってその破れを繕わなければならない」。
12:5 Let the priests take it to them, every man of his acquaintance: and let them repair the breaches of the house, where ever any breach shall be found.
12:6 ところがヨアシ王の二十三年に至るまで、祭司たちは主の宮の破れを繕わなかった。
12:6 But it was so, that in the three and twentieth year of king Jehoash the priests had not repaired the breaches of the house.
12:7 それで、ヨアシ王は祭司エホヤダおよび他の祭司たちを召して言った、「なぜ、あなたがたは主の宮の破れを繕わないのか。あなたがたはもはや知人から銀を受けてはならない。主の宮の破れを繕うためにそれを渡しなさい」。
12:7 Then king Jehoash called for Jehoiada the priest, and the other priests, and said unto them, Why repair all of you not the breaches of the house? now therefore receive no more money of your acquaintance, but deliver it for the breaches of the house.
12:8 祭司たちは重ねて民から銀を受けない事と、主の宮の破れを繕わない事とに同意した。
12:8 And the priests consented to receive no more money of the people, neither to repair the breaches of the house.
12:9 そこで祭司エホヤダは一つの箱を取り、そのふたに穴をあけて、それを主の宮の入口の右側、祭壇のかたわらに置いた。そして門を守る祭司たちは主の宮にはいってくる銀をことごとくその中に入れた。
12:9 But Jehoiada the priest took a chest, and bored a hole in the lid of it, and set it beside the altar, on the right side as one comes into the house of the LORD: and the priests that kept the door put therein all the money that was brought into the house of the LORD.
12:10 こうしてその箱の中に銀が多くなったのを見ると、王の書記官と大祭司が上ってきて、主の宮にある銀を数えて袋に詰めた。
12:10 And it was so, when they saw that there was much money in the chest, that the king's scribe and the high priest came up, and they put up in bags, and told the money that was found in the house of the LORD.
12:11 そしてその数えた銀を、工事をつかさどる主の宮の監督者の手にわたしたので、彼らはそれを主の宮に働く木工と建築師に払い、
12:11 And they gave the money, being told, into the hands of them that did the work, that had the oversight of the house of the LORD: and they laid it out to the carpenters and builders, that wrought upon the house of the LORD,
12:12 石工および石切りに払い、またそれをもって主の宮の破れを繕う材木と切り石を買い、主の宮を繕うために用いるすべての物のために費した。
12:12 And to stone workers, and hewers of stone, and to buy timber and hewed stone to repair the breaches of the house of the LORD, and for all that was laid out for the house to repair it.
12:13 ただし、主の宮にはいってくるその銀をもって主の宮のために銀のたらい、心切りばさみ、鉢、ラッパ、金の器、銀の器などを造ることはしなかった。
12:13 Nevertheless there were not made for the house of the LORD bowls of silver, snuffers, basons, trumpets, any vessels of gold, or vessels of silver, of the money that was brought into the house of the LORD:
12:14 ただこれを工事をする者に渡して、それで主の宮を繕わせた。
12:14 But they gave that to the workmen, and repaired therewith the house of the LORD.
12:15 またその銀を渡して工事をする者に払わせた人々と計算することはしなかった。彼らは正直に事をおこなったからである。
12:15 Moreover they reckoned not with the men, into whose hand they delivered the money to be bestowed on workmen: for they dealt faithfully.
12:16 愆祭の銀と罪祭の銀は主の宮に、はいらないで、祭司に帰した。
12:16 The trespass money and sin money was not brought into the house of the LORD: it was the priests'.
12:17 そのころ、スリヤの王ハザエルが上ってきて、ガテを攻めてこれを取った。そしてハザエルがエルサレムに攻め上ろうとして、その顔を向けたとき、
12:17 Then Hazael king of Syria went up, and fought against Gath, and took it: and Hazael set his face to go up to Jerusalem.
12:18 ユダの王ヨアシはその先祖、ユダの王ヨシャパテ、ヨラム、アハジヤが聖別してささげたすべての物、およびヨアシ自身が聖別してささげた物、ならびに主の宮の倉と、主の宮にある金をことごとく取って、スリヤ王のハザエルに贈ったので、ハザエルはエルサレムを離れ去った。
12:18 And Jehoash king of Judah took all the hallowed things that Jehoshaphat, and Jehoram, and Ahaziah, his fathers, kings of Judah, had dedicated, and his own hallowed things, and all the gold that was found in the treasures of the house of the LORD, and in the king's house, and sent it to Hazael king of Syria: and he went away from Jerusalem.
12:19 ヨアシのその他の事績および彼がしたすべての事は、ユダの王の歴代志の書にしるされているではないか。
12:19 And the rest of the acts of Joash, and all that he did, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah?
12:20 ヨアシの家来たちは立って徒党を結び、シラに下る道にあるミロの家でヨアシを殺した。
12:20 And his servants arose, and made a conspiracy, and slew Joash in the house of Millo, which goes down to Silla.
12:21 すなわちその家来シメアテの子ヨザカルと、ショメルの子ヨザバデが彼を撃って殺し、彼をその先祖と同じく、ダビデの町に葬った。その子アマジヤが代って王となった。
12:21 For Jozachar the son of Shimeath, and Jehozabad the son of Shomer, his servants, stroke him, and he died; and they buried him with his fathers in the city of David: and Amaziah his son reigned in his position.
