27:1 Y ACONTECIO que cuando hubo Isaac envejecido, y sus ojos se ofuscaron quedando sin vista, llamó á Esaú, su hijo el mayor, y díjole: Mi hijo. Y él respondió: Heme aquí.

27:1 And it came to pass, that when Isaac was old, and his eyes were dim, so that he could not see, he called Esau his eldest son, and said unto him, My son: and he said unto him, Behold, here am I.

27:2 Y él dijo: He aquí ya soy viejo, no sé el día de mi muerte:

27:2 And he said, Behold now, I am old, I know not the day of my death:

27:3 Toma, pues, ahora tus armas, tu aljaba y tu arco, y sal al campo, y cógeme caza;

27:3 Now therefore take, I pray you, your weapons, your quiver and your bow, and go out to the field, and take me some venison;

27:4 Y hazme un guisado, como yo gusto, y tráeme lo, y comeré: para que te bendiga mi alma antes que muera.

27:4 And make me savoury food, such as I love, and bring it to me, that I may eat; that my soul may bless you before I die.

27:5 Y Rebeca estaba oyendo, cuando hablaba Isaac á Esaú su hijo: y fuése Esaú al campo para coger la caza que había de traer.

27:5 And Rebekah heard when Isaac spoke to Esau his son. And Esau went to the field to hunt for venison, and to bring it.

27:6 Entonces Rebeca habló á Jacob su hijo, diciendo: He aquí yo he oído á tu padre que hablaba con Esaú tu hermano, diciendo:

27:6 And Rebekah spoke unto Jacob her son, saying, Behold, I heard your father speak unto Esau your brother, saying,

27:7 Tráeme caza, y hazme un guisado, para que coma, y te bendiga delante de Jehová antes que yo muera.

27:7 Bring me venison, and make me savoury food, that I may eat, and bless you before the LORD before my death.

27:8 Ahora pues, hijo mío, obedece á mi voz en lo que te mando;

27:8 Now therefore, my son, obey my voice according to that which I command you.

27:9 Ve ahora al ganado, y tráeme de allí dos buenos cabritos de las cabras, y haré de ellos viandas para tu padre, como él gusta;

27:9 Go now to the flock, and fetch me from thence two good kids of the goats; and I will make them savoury food for your father, such as he loves:

27:10 Y tú las llevarás á tu padre, y comerá, para que te bendiga antes de su muerte.

27:10 And you shall bring it to your father, that he may eat, and that he may bless you before his death.

27:11 Y Jacob dijo á Rebeca su madre: He aquí Esaú mi hermano es hombre velloso, y yo lampiño:

27:11 And Jacob said to Rebekah his mother, Behold, Esau my brother is a hairy man, and I am a smooth man:

27:12 Quizá me tentará mi padre, y me tendrá por burlador, y traeré sobre mí maldición y no bendición.

27:12 My father possibly will feel me, and I shall seem to him as a deceiver; and I shall bring a curse upon me, and not a blessing.

27:13 Y su madre respondió: Hijo mío, sobre mí tu maldición: solamente obedece á mi voz, y ve y tráemelos.

27:13 And his mother said unto him, Upon me be your curse, my son: only obey my voice, and go fetch me them.

27:14 Entonces él fué, y tomó, y trájolos á su madre: y su madre hizo guisados, como su padre gustaba.

27:14 And he went, and fetched, and brought them to his mother: and his mother made savoury food, such as his father loved.

27:15 Y tomó Rebeca los vestidos de Esaú su hijo mayor, los preciosos, que ella tenía en casa, y vistió á Jacob su hijo menor:

27:15 And Rebekah took goodly raiment of her eldest son Esau, which were with her in the house, and put them upon Jacob her younger son:

27:16 E hízole vestir sobre sus manos y sobre la cerviz donde no tenía vello, las pieles de los cabritos de las cabras;

27:16 And she put the skins of the kids of the goats upon his hands, and upon the smooth of his neck:

27:17 Y entregó los guisados y el pan que había aderezado, en mano de Jacob su hijo.

27:17 And she gave the savoury food and the bread, which she had prepared, into the hand of her son Jacob.

27:18 Y él fué á su padre, y dijo: Padre mío: y él respondió: Heme aquí, ¿quién eres, hijo mío?

27:18 And he came unto his father, and said, My father: and he said, Here am I; who are you, my son?

27:19 Y Jacob dijo á su padre: Yo soy Esaú tu primogénito; he hecho como me dijiste: levántate ahora, y siéntate, y come de mi caza, para que me bendiga tu alma.

27:19 And Jacob said unto his father, I am Esau your first born; I have done according as you bade me: arise, I pray you, sit and eat of my venison, that your soul may bless me.

27:20 Entonces Isaac dijo á su hijo: ¿Cómo es que la hallaste tan presto, hijo mío? Y él respondió: Porque Jehová tu Dios hizo que se encontrase delante de mí.

27:20 And Isaac said unto his son, How is it that you have found it so quickly, my son? And he said, Because the LORD your God brought it to me.

27:21 E Isaac dijo á Jacob: Acércate ahora, y te palparé, hijo mío, por si eres mi hijo Esaú ó no.

27:21 And Isaac said unto Jacob, Come near, I pray you, that I may feel you, my son, whether you be my very son Esau or not.

27:22 Y llegóse Jacob á su padre Isaac; y él le palpó, y dijo: La voz es la voz de Jacob, mas las manos, las manos de Esaú.

27:22 And Jacob went near unto Isaac his father; and he felt him, and said, The voice is Jacob's voice, but the hands are the hands of Esau.

27:23 Y no le conoció, porque sus manos eran vellosas como las manos de Esaú: y le bendijo.

27:23 And he discerned him not, because his hands were hairy, as his brother Esau's hands: so he blessed him.

27:24 Y dijo: ¿Eres tú mi hijo Esaú? Y él respondió: Yo soy.

27:24 And he said, Are you my very son Esau? And he said, I am.

27:25 Y dijo: Acércamela, y comeré de la caza de mi hijo, para que te bendiga mi alma; y él se la acercó, y comió: trájole también vino, y bebió.

27:25 And he said, Bring it near to me, and I will eat of my son's venison, that my soul may bless you. And he brought it near to him, and he did eat: and he brought him wine and he drank.

27:26 Y díjole Isaac su padre: Acércate ahora, y bésame, hijo mío.

27:26 And his father Isaac said unto him, Come near now, and kiss me, my son.

27:27 Y él se llegó, y le besó; y olió Isaac el olor de sus vestidos, y le bendijo, y dijo: Mira, el olor de mi hijo Como el olor del campo que Jehová ha bendecido:

27:27 And he came near, and kissed him: and he smelled the smell of his raiment, and blessed him, and said, See, the smell of my son is as the smell of a field which the LORD has blessed:

27:28 Dios, pues, te dé del rocío del cielo, Y de las grosuras de la tierra, Y abundancia de trigo y de mosto.

27:28 Therefore God give you of the dew of heaven, and the fatness of the earth, and plenty of corn and wine:

27:29 Sírvante pueblos, Y naciones se inclinen á ti: Sé señor de tus hermanos, E inclínense á ti los hijos de tu madre: Malditos los que te maldijeren, Y benditos los que te bendijeren.

27:29 Let people serve you, and nations bow down to you: be lord over your brethren, and let your mother's sons bow down to you: cursed be every one that curses you, and blessed be he that blesses you.

27:30 Y aconteció, luego que hubo Isaac acabado de bendecir á Jacob, y apenas había salido Jacob de delante de Isaac su padre, que Esaú su hermano vino de su caza.

27:30 And it came to pass, as soon as Isaac had made an end of blessing Jacob, and Jacob was yet scarce gone out from the presence of Isaac his father, that Esau his brother came in from his hunting.

27:31 E hizo él también guisados, y trajo á su padre, y díjole: Levántese mi padre, y coma de la caza de su hijo, para que me bendiga tu alma.

27:31 And he also had made savoury food, and brought it unto his father, and said unto his father, Let my father arise, and eat of his son's venison, that your soul may bless me.

27:32 Entonces Isaac su padre le dijo: ¿Quién eres tú? Y él dijo: Yo soy tu hijo, tu primogénito, Esaú.

27:32 And Isaac his father said unto him, Who are you? And he said, I am your son, your firstborn Esau.

27:33 Y Estremecióse Isaac con grande estremecimiento, y dijo: ¿Quién es el que vino aquí, que cogió caza, y me trajo, y comí de todo antes que vinieses? Yo le bendije, y será bendito.

27:33 And Isaac trembled very exceedingly, and said, Who? where is he that has taken venison, and brought it me, and I have eaten of all before you came, and have blessed him? yea, and he shall be blessed.

27:34 Como Esaú oyó las palabras de su padre clamó con una muy grande y muy amarga exclamación, y le dijo: Bendíceme también á mí, padre mío.

27:34 And when Esau heard the words of his father, he cried with a great and exceeding bitter cry, and said unto his father, Bless me, even me also, O my father.

27:35 Y él dijo: Vino tu hermano con engaño, y tomó tu bendición.

27:35 And he said, Your brother came with subtlety, and has taken away your blessing.

27:36 Y él respondió: Bien llamaron su nombre Jacob, que ya me ha engañado dos veces; alzóse con mi primogenitura, y he aquí ahora ha tomado mi bendición. Y dijo: ¿No has guardado bendición para mí?

27:36 And he said, Is not he rightly named Jacob? for he has supplanted me these two times: he took away my birthright; and, behold, now he has taken away my blessing. And he said, Have you not reserved a blessing for me?

27:37 Isaac respondió y dijo á Esaú: He aquí yo le he puesto por señor tuyo, y le he dado por siervos á todos sus hermanos: de trigo y de vino le he provisto: ¿qué, pues, te haré á ti ahora, hijo mío?

27:37 And Isaac answered and said unto Esau, Behold, I have made him your lord, and all his brethren have I given to him for servants; and with corn and wine have I sustained him: and what shall I do now unto you, my son?

27:38 Y Esaú respondió á su padre: ¿No tienes más que una sola bendición, padre mío? bendíceme también á mí, padre mío. Y alzó Esaú su voz, y lloró.

27:38 And Esau said unto his father, Have you but one blessing, my father? bless me, even me also, O my father. And Esau lifted up his voice, and wept.

27:39 Entonces Isaac su padre habló y díjole: He aquí será tu habitación en grosuras de la tierra, Y del rocío de los cielos de arriba;

27:39 And Isaac his father answered and said unto him, Behold, your dwelling shall be the fatness of the earth, and of the dew of heaven from above;

27:40 Y por tu espada vivirás, y á tu hermano servirás: Y sucederá cuando te enseñorees, Que descargarás su yugo de tu cerviz.

27:40 And by your sword shall you live, and shall serve your brother; and it shall come to pass when you shall have the dominion, that you shall break his yoke from off your neck.

27:41 Y aborreció Esaú á Jacob por la bendición con que le había bendecido, y dijo en su corazón: Llegarán los días del luto de mi padre, y yo mataré á Jacob mi hermano.

27:41 And Esau hated Jacob because of the blessing wherewith his father blessed him: and Esau said in his heart, The days of mourning for my father are at hand; then will I slay my brother Jacob.

27:42 Y fueron dichas á Rebeca las palabras de Esaú su hijo mayor: y ella envió y llamó á Jacob su hijo menor, y díjole: He aquí, Esaú tu hermano se consuela acerca de ti con la idea de matarte.

27:42 And these words of Esau her elder son were told to Rebekah: and she sent and called Jacob her younger son, and said unto him, Behold, your brother Esau, as concerning you, does comfort himself, purposing to kill you.

27:43 Ahora pues, hijo mío, obedece á mi voz; levántate, y húyete á Labán mi hermano, á Harán.

27:43 Now therefore, my son, obey my voice; arise, flee you to Laban my brother to Haran;

27:44 Y mora con él algunos días, hasta que el enojo de tu hermano se mitigue;

27:44 And tarry with him a few days, until your brother's fury turn away;

27:45 Hasta que se aplaque la ira de tu hermano contra ti, y se olvide de lo que le has hecho: yo enviaré entonces, y te traeré de allá: ¿por qué seré privada de vosotros ambos en un día?

27:45 Until your brother's anger turn away from you, and he forget that which you have done to him: then I will send, and fetch you from thence: why should I be deprived also of you both in one day?

27:46 Y dijo Rebeca á Isaac: Fastidio tengo de mi vida, á causa de las hijas de Heth. Si Jacob toma mujer de las hijas de Heth, como éstas, de las hijas de esta tierra, ¿para qué quiero la vida?

27:46 And Rebekah said to Isaac, I am weary of my life because of the daughters of Heth: if Jacob take a wife of the daughters of Heth, such as these which are of the daughters of the land, what good shall my life do me?

Genesis / GÉNESIS

28:1 ENTONCES Isaac llamó á Jacob, y bendíjolo, y mandóle diciendo: No tomes mujer de las hijas de Canaán.

28:1 And Isaac called Jacob, and blessed him, and charged him, and said unto him, You shall not take a wife of the daughters of Canaan.

28:2 Levántate, ve á Padan-aram, á casa de Bethuel, padre de tu madre, y toma allí mujer de las hijas de Labán, hermano de tu madre.

28:2 Arise, go to Padanaram, to the house of Bethuel your mother's father; and take you a wife from thence of the daughters of Laban your mother's brother.

28:3 Y el Dios omnipotente te bendiga y te haga fructificar, y te multiplique, hasta venir á ser congregación de pueblos;

28:3 And God Almighty bless you, and make you fruitful, and multiply you, that you may be a multitude of people;

28:4 Y te dé la bendición de Abraham, y á tu simiente contigo, para que heredes la tierra de tus peregrinaciones, que Dios dió á Abraham.

28:4 And give you the blessing of Abraham, to you, and to your seed with you; that you may inherit the land wherein you are a stranger, which God gave unto Abraham.

28:5 Así envió Isaac á Jacob, el cual fué á Padan-aram, á Labán, hijo de Bethuel Arameo, hermano de Rebeca, madre de Jacob y de Esaú.

28:5 And Isaac sent away Jacob: and he went to Padanaram unto Laban, son of Bethuel the Syrian, the brother of Rebekah, Jacob's and Esau's mother.

28:6 Y vió Esaú cómo Isaac había bendecido á Jacob, y le había enviado á Padan-aram, para tomar para sí mujer de allí; y que cuando le bendijo, le había mandado, diciendo: No tomarás mujer de las hijas de Canaán;

28:6 When Esau saw that Isaac had blessed Jacob, and sent him away to Padanaram, to take him a wife from thence; and that as he blessed him he gave him a charge, saying, You shall not take a wife of the daughters of Canaan;

28:7 Y que Jacob había obedecido á su padre y á su madre, y se había ido á Padan-aram.

28:7 And that Jacob obeyed his father and his mother, and was gone to Padanaram;

28:8 Vió asimismo Esaú que las hijas de Canaán parecían mal á Isaac su padre;

28:8 And Esau seeing that the daughters of Canaan pleased not Isaac his father;

28:9 Y fuése Esaú á Ismael, y tomó para sí por mujer á Mahaleth, hija de Ismael, hijo de Abraham, hermana de Nabaioth, además de sus otras mujeres.

28:9 Then went Esau unto Ishmael, and took unto the wives which he had Mahalath the daughter of Ishmael Abraham's son, the sister of Nebajoth, to be his wife.

28:10 Y salió Jacob de Beer-seba, y fué á Harán;

28:10 And Jacob went out from Beersheba, and went toward Haran.

28:11 Y encontró con un lugar, y durmió allí porque ya el sol se había puesto: y tomó de las piedras de aquel paraje y puso á su cabecera, y acostóse en aquel lugar.

28:11 And he lighted upon a certain place, and tarried there all night, because the sun was set; and he took of the stones of that place, and put them for his pillows, and lay down in that place to sleep.

28:12 Y soñó, y he aquí una escala que estaba apoyada en tierra, y su cabeza tocaba en el cielo: y he aquí ángeles de Dios que subían y descendían por ella.

28:12 And he dreamed, and behold a ladder set up on the earth, and the top of it reached to heaven: and behold the angels of God ascending and descending on it.

28:13 Y he aquí, Jehová estaba en lo alto de ella, el cual dijo: Yo soy Jehová, el Dios de Abraham tu padre, y el Dios de Isaac: la tierra en que estás acostado te la daré á ti y á tu simiente.

28:13 And, behold, the LORD stood above it, and said, I am the LORD God of Abraham your father, and the God of Isaac: the land whereon you lie, to you will I give it, and to your seed;

28:14 Y será tu simiente como el polvo de la tierra, y te extenderás al occidente, y al oriente, y al aquilón, y al mediodía; y todas las familias de la tierra serán benditas en ti y en tu simiente.

28:14 And your seed shall be as the dust of the earth, and you shall spread abroad to the west, and to the east, and to the north, and to the south: and in you and in your seed shall all the families of the earth be blessed.

28:15 Y he aquí, yo soy contigo, y te guardaré por donde quiera que fueres, y te volveré á esta tierra; porque no te dejaré hasta tanto que haya hecho lo que te he dicho.

28:15 And, behold, I am with you, and will keep you in all places where you go, and will bring you again into this land; for I will not leave you, until I have done that which I have spoken to you of.

28:16 Y despertó Jacob de su sueño dijo: Ciertamente Jehové está en este lugar, y yo no lo sabía.

28:16 And Jacob awaked out of his sleep, and he said, Surely the LORD is in this place; and I knew it not.

28:17 Y tuvo miedo, y dijo: ¡Cuán terrible es este lugar! No es otra cosa que casa de Dios, y puerta del cielo.

28:17 And he was afraid, and said, How dreadful is this place! this is no other but the house of God, and this is the gate of heaven.

28:18 Y levantóse Jacob de mañana, y tomó la piedra que había puesto de cabecera, y alzóla por título, y derramó aceite encima de ella.

28:18 And Jacob rose up early in the morning, and took the stone that he had put for his pillows, and set it up for a pillar, and poured oil upon the top of it.

28:19 Y llamó el nombre de aquel lugar Beth-el, bien que Luz era el nombre de la ciudad primero.

28:19 And he called the name of that place Bethel: but the name of that city was called Luz at the first.

28:20 E hizo Jacob voto, diciendo: Si fuere Dios conmigo, y me guardare en este viaje que voy, y me diere pan para comer y vestido para vestir,

28:20 And Jacob vowed a vow, saying, If God will be with me, and will keep me in this way that I go, and will give me bread to eat, and raiment to put on,

28:21 Y si tornare en paz á casa de mi padre, Jehová será mi Dios,

28:21 So that I come again to my father's house in peace; then shall the LORD be my God:

28:22 Y esta piedra que he puesto por título, será casa de Dios: y de todo lo que me dieres, el diezmo lo he de apartar para ti.

28:22 And this stone, which I have set for a pillar, shall be God's house: and of all that you shall give me I will surely give the tenth unto you.

Genesis / GÉNESIS

29:1 Y SIGUIO Jacob su camino, y fué á la tierra de los orientales.

29:1 Then Jacob went on his journey, and came into the land of the people of the east.

29:2 Y miró, y vió un pozo en el campo: y he aquí tres rebaños de ovejas que yacían cerca de él; porque de aquel pozo abrevaban los ganados: y había una gran piedra sobre la boca del pozo.

29:2 And he looked, and behold a well in the field, and, lo, there were three flocks of sheep lying by it; for out of that well they watered the flocks: and a great stone was upon the well's mouth.

29:3 Y juntábanse allí todos los rebaños; y revolvían la piedra de sobre la boca del pozo, y abrevaban las ovejas; y volvían la piedra sobre la boca del pozo á su lugar.

29:3 And thither were all the flocks gathered: and they rolled the stone from the well's mouth, and watered the sheep, and put the stone again upon the well's mouth in his place.

29:4 Y díjoles Jacob: Hermanos míos, ¿de dónde sois? Y ellos respondieron: De Harán somos.

29:4 And Jacob said unto them, My brethren, whence be all of you? And they said, Of Haran are we.

29:5 Y él les dijo: ¿Conocéis á Labán, hijo de Nachôr? Y ellos dijeron: Sí, le conocemos.

29:5 And he said unto them, Know all of you Laban the son of Nahor? And they said, We know him.

29:6 Y él les dijo: ¿Tiene paz? Y ellos dijeron: Paz; y he aquí Rachêl su hija viene con el ganado.

29:6 And he said unto them, Is he well? And they said, He is well: and, behold, Rachel his daughter comes with the sheep.

29:7 Y él dijo: He aquí el día es aún grande; no es tiempo todavía de recoger el ganado; abrevad las ovejas, é id á apacentarlas.

29:7 And he said, Lo, it is yet high day, neither is it time that the cattle should be gathered together: water all of you the sheep, and go and feed them.

29:8 Y ellos respondieron: No podemos, hasta que se junten todos los ganados, y remuevan la piedra de sobre la boca del pozo, para que abrevemos las ovejas.

29:8 And they said, We cannot, until all the flocks be gathered together, and till they roll the stone from the well's mouth; then we water the sheep.

29:9 Estando aún él hablando con ellos Rachêl vino con el ganado de su padre, porque ella era la pastora.

29:9 And while he yet spoke with them, Rachel came with her father's sheep; for she kept them.

29:10 Y sucedió que, como Jacob vió á Rachêl, hija de Labán hermano de su madre, y á las ovejas de Labán, el hermano de su madre, llegóse Jacob, y removió la piedra de sobre la boca del pozo, y abrevó el ganado de Labán hermano de su madre.

29:10 And it came to pass, when Jacob saw Rachel the daughter of Laban his mother's brother, and the sheep of Laban his mother's brother, that Jacob went near, and rolled the stone from the well's mouth, and watered the flock of Laban his mother's brother.

29:11 Y Jacob besó á Rachêl, y alzó su voz, y lloró.

29:11 And Jacob kissed Rachel, and lifted up his voice, and wept.

29:12 Y Jacob dijo á Rachêl como él era hermano de su padre, y como era hijo de Rebeca: y ella corrió, y dió las nuevas á su padre.

29:12 And Jacob told Rachel that he was her father's brother, and that he was Rebekah's son: and she ran and told her father.

29:13 Y así que oyó Labán las nuevas de Jacob, hijo de su hermana, corrió á recibirlo, y abrazólo, y besólo, y trájole á su casa: y él contó á Labán todas estas cosas.

29:13 And it came to pass, when Laban heard the tidings of Jacob his sister's son, that he ran to meet him, and embraced him, and kissed him, and brought him to his house. And he told Laban all these things.

29:14 Y Labán le dijo: Ciertamente hueso mío y carne mía eres. Y estuvo con él el tiempo de un mes.

29:14 And Laban said to him, Surely you are my bone and my flesh. And he abode with him the space of a month.

29:15 Entonces dijo Labán á Jacob: ¿Por ser tú mi hermano, me has de servir de balde? declárame qué será tu salario.

29:15 And Laban said unto Jacob, Because you are my brother, should you therefore serve me for nothing? tell me, what shall your wages be?

29:16 Y Labán tenía dos hijas: el nombre de la mayor era Lea, y el nombre de la menor, Rachêl.

29:16 And Laban had two daughters: the name of the elder was Leah, and the name of the younger was Rachel.

29:17 Y los ojos de Lea eran tiernos, pero Rachêl era de lindo semblante y de hermoso parecer.

29:17 Leah was tender eyed; but Rachel was beautiful and well favoured.

29:18 Y Jacob amó á Rachêl, y dijo: Yo te serviré siete años por Rachêl tu hija menor.

29:18 And Jacob loved Rachel; and said, I will serve you seven years for Rachel your younger daughter.

29:19 Y Labán respondió: Mejor es que te la dé á ti, que no que la dé á otro hombre: estáte conmigo.

29:19 And Laban said, It is better that I give her to you, than that I should give her to another man: abide with me.

29:20 Así sirvió Jacob por Rachêl siete años: y pareciéronle como pocos días, porque la amaba.

29:20 And Jacob served seven years for Rachel; and they seemed unto him but a few days, for the love he had to her.

29:21 Y dijo Jacob á Labán: Dame mi mujer, porque mi tiempo es cumplido para que cohabite con ella.

29:21 And Jacob said unto Laban, Give me my wife, for my days are fulfilled, that I may go in unto her.

29:22 Entonces Labán juntó á todos los varones de aquel lugar, é hizo banquete.

29:22 And Laban gathered together all the men of the place, and made a feast.

29:23 Y sucedió que á la noche tomó á Lea su hija, y se la trajo: y él entró á ella.

29:23 And it came to pass in the evening, that he took Leah his daughter, and brought her to him; and he went in unto her.

29:24 Y dió Labán su sierva Zilpa á su hija Lea por criada.

29:24 And Laban gave unto his daughter Leah Zilpah his maid for an handmaid.

29:25 Y venida la mañana, he aquí que era Lea: y él dijo á Labán: ¿Qué es esto que me has hecho? ¿no te he servido por Rachêl? ¿por qué, pues, me has engañado?

29:25 And it came to pass, that in the morning, behold, it was Leah: and he said to Laban, What is this you have done unto me? did not I serve with you for Rachel? wherefore then have you misled me?

29:26 Y Labán respondió: No se hace así en nuestro lugar, que se dé la menor antes de la mayor.

29:26 And Laban said, It must not be so done in our country, to give the younger before the firstborn.

29:27 Cumple la semana de ésta, y se te dará también la otra, por el servicio que hicieres conmigo otros siete años.

29:27 Fulfill her week, and we will give you this also for the service which you shall serve with me yet seven other years.

29:28 E hizo Jacob así, y cumplió la semana de aquélla: y él le dió á Rachêl su hija por mujer.

29:28 And Jacob did so, and fulfilled her week: and he gave him Rachel his daughter to wife also.

29:29 Y dió Labán á Rachêl su hija por criada á su sierva Bilha.

29:29 And Laban gave to Rachel his daughter Bilhah his handmaid to be her maid.

29:30 Y entró también á Rachêl: y amóla también más que á Lea: y sirvió con él aún otros siete años.

29:30 And he went in also unto Rachel, and he loved also Rachel more than Leah, and served with him yet seven other years.

29:31 Y vió Jehová que Lea era aborrecida, y abrió su matriz; pero Rachêl era estéril.

29:31 And when the LORD saw that Leah was hated, he opened her womb: but Rachel was barren.

29:32 Y concibió Lea, y parió un hijo, y llamó su nombre Rubén, porque dijo: Ya que ha mirado Jehová mi aflicción; ahora por tanto me amará mi marido.

29:32 And Leah conceived, and bare a son, and she called his name Reuben: for she said, Surely the LORD has looked upon my affliction; now therefore my husband will love me.

29:33 Y concibió otra vez, y parió un hijo, y dijo: Por cuanto oyó Jehová que yo era aborrecida, me ha dado también éste. Y llamó su nombre Simeón.

29:33 And she conceived again, and bare a son; and said, Because the LORD has heard I was hated, he has therefore given me this son also: and she called his name Simeon.

29:34 Y concibió otra vez, y parió un hijo, y dijo: Ahora esta vez se unirá mi marido conmigo, porque le he parido tres hijos: por tanto, llamó su nombre Leví.

29:34 And she conceived again, and bare a son; and said, Now this time will my husband be joined unto me, because I have born him three sons: therefore was his name called Levi.

29:35 Y concibió ota vez, y parió un hijo, y dijo: Esta vez alabaré á Jehová: por esto llamó su nombre Judá: y dejó de parir.

29:35 And she conceived again, and bare a son: and she said, Now will I praise the LORD: therefore she called his name Judah; and left bearing.

30:1 Y VIENDO Rachêl que no daba hijos á Jacob, tuvo envidia de su hermana, y decía á Jacob: Dame hijos, ó si no, me muero.

30:1 And when Rachel saw that she bare Jacob no children, Rachel envied her sister; and said unto Jacob, Give me children, or else I die.

30:2 Y Jacob se enojaba contra Rachêl, y decía: ¿Soy yo en lugar de Dios, que te impidió el fruto de tu vientre?

30:2 And Jacob's anger was kindled against Rachel: and he said, Am I in God's position, who has withheld from you the fruit of the womb?

30:3 Y ella dijo: He aquí mi sierva Bilha; entra á ella, y parirá sobre mis rodillas, y yo también tendré hijos de ella.

30:3 And she said, Behold my maid Bilhah, go in unto her; and she shall bear upon my knees, that I may also have children by her.

30:4 Así le dió á Bilha su sierva por mujer; y Jacob entró á ella.

30:4 And she gave him Bilhah her handmaid to wife: and Jacob went in unto her.

30:5 Y concibió Bilha, y parió á Jacob un hijo.

30:5 And Bilhah conceived, and bare Jacob a son.

30:6 Y dijo Rachêl: Juzgóme Dios, y también oyó mi voz, y dióme un hijo. Por tanto llamó su nombre Dan.

30:6 And Rachel said, God has judged me, and has also heard my voice, and has given me a son: therefore called she his name Dan.

30:7 Y concibió otra vez Bilha, la sierva de Rachêl, y parió el hijo segundo á Jacob.

30:7 And Bilhah Rachel's maid conceived again, and bare Jacob a second son.

30:8 Y dijo Rachêl: Con luchas de Dios he contendido con mi hermana, y he vencido. Y llamó su nombre Nephtalí.

30:8 And Rachel said, With great wrestlings have I wrestled with my sister, and I have prevailed: and she called his name Naphtali.

30:9 Y viendo Lea que había dejado de parir, tomó á Zilpa su sierva, y dióla á Jacob por mujer.

30:9 When Leah saw that she had left bearing, she took Zilpah her maid, and gave her Jacob to wife.

30:10 Y Zilpa, sierva de Lea, parió á Jacob un hijo.

30:10 And Zilpah Leah's maid bare Jacob a son.

30:11 Y dijo Lea: Vino la ventura. Y llamó su nombre Gad.

30:11 And Leah said, A troop comes: and she called his name Gad.

30:12 Y Zilpa, la sirva de Lea, parió otro hijo á Jacob.

30:12 And Zilpah Leah's maid bare Jacob a second son.

30:13 Y dijo Lea: Para dicha mía; porque las mujeres me dirán dichosa: y llamó su nombre Aser.

30:13 And Leah said, Happy am I, for the daughters will call me blessed: and she called his name Asher.

30:14 Y fué Rubén en tiempo de la siega de los trigos, y halló mandrágoras en el campo, y trájolas á Lea su madre: y dijo Rachêl á Lea: Ruégote que me des de las mandrágoras de tu hijo.

30:14 And Reuben went in the days of wheat harvest, and found mandrakes in the field, and brought them unto his mother Leah. Then Rachel said to Leah, Give me, I pray you, of your son's mandrakes.

30:15 Y ella respondió: ¿Es poco que hayas tomado mi marido, sino que también te has de llevar las mandrágoras de mi hijo? Y dijo Rachêl: Pues dormirá contigo esta noche por las mandrágoras de tu hijo.

30:15 And she said unto her, Is it a small matter that you have taken my husband? and would you take away my son's mandrakes also? And Rachel said, Therefore he shall lie with you to night for your son's mandrakes.

30:16 Y cuando Jacob volvía del campo á la tarde, salió Lea á él, y le dijo: A mí has de entrar, porque á la verdad te he alquilado por las mandrágoras de mi hijo. Y durmió con ella aquella noche.

30:16 And Jacob came out of the field in the evening, and Leah went out to meet him, and said, You must come in unto me; for surely I have hired you with my son's mandrakes. And he lay with her that night.

30:17 Y oyó Dios á Lea: y concibió, y parió á Jacob el quinto hijo.

30:17 And God hearkened unto Leah, and she conceived, and bare Jacob the fifth son.

30:18 Y dijo Lea: Dios me ha dado mi recompensa, por cuanto dí mi sierva á mi marido: por eso llamó su nombre Issachâr.

30:18 And Leah said, God has given me my hire, because I have given my maiden to my husband: and she called his name Issachar.

30:19 Y concibió Lea otra vez, y parió el sexto hijo á Jacob.

30:19 And Leah conceived again, and bare Jacob the sixth son.

30:20 Y dijo Lea: Dios me ha dado una buena dote: ahora morará conmigo mi marido, porque le he parido seis hijos: y llamó su nombre Zabulón.

30:20 And Leah said, God has imbued me with a good dowry; now will my husband dwell with me, because I have born him six sons: and she called his name Zebulun.

30:21 Y después parió una hija, y llamó su nombre Dina.

30:21 And afterwards she bare a daughter, and called her name Dinah.

30:22 Y acordóse Dios de Rachêl, y oyóla Dios, y abrió su matriz.

30:22 And God remembered Rachel, and God hearkened to her, and opened her womb.

30:23 Y concibió, y parió un hijo: y dijo: Quitado ha Dios mi afrenta:

30:23 And she conceived, and bare a son; and said, God has taken away my reproach:

30:24 Y llamó su nombre José, diciendo: Añádame Jehová otro hijo.

30:24 And she called his name Joseph; and said, The LORD shall add to me another son.

30:25 Y aconteció, cuando Rachêl hubo parido á José, que Jacob dijo á Labán: Envíame, é iré á mi lugar, y á mi tierra.

30:25 And it came to pass, when Rachel had born Joseph, that Jacob said unto Laban, Send me away, that I may go unto mine own place, and to my country.

30:26 Dame mis mujeres y mis hijos, por las cuales he servido contigo, y déjame ir; pues tú sabes los servicios que te he hecho.

30:26 Give me my wives and my children, for whom I have served you, and let me go: for you know my service which I have done you.

30:27 Y Labán le respondió: Halle yo ahora gracia en tus ojos, y quédate; experimentado he que Jehová me ha bendecido por tu causa.

30:27 And Laban said unto him, I pray you, if I have found favour in yours eyes, tarry: for I have learned by experience that the LORD has blessed me for your sake.

30:28 Y dijo: Señálame tu salario, que yo lo daré.

30:28 And he said, Appoint me your wages, and I will give it.

30:29 Y él respondió: Tú sabes cómo te he servido, y cómo ha estado tu ganado conmigo;

30:29 And he said unto him, You know how I have served you, and how your cattle was with me.

30:30 Porque poco tenías antes de mi venida, y ha crecido en gran número; y Jehová te ha bendecido con mi llegada: y ahora ¿cuándo tengo de hacer yo también por mi propia casa?

30:30 For it was little which you had before I came, and it is now increased unto a multitude; and the LORD has blessed you since my coming: and now when shall I provide for mine own house also?

30:31 Y él dijo: ¿Qué te daré? Y respondió Jacob: No me des nada: si hicieres por mí esto, volveré á apacentar tus ovejas.

30:31 And he said, What shall I give you? And Jacob said, You shall not give me any thing: if you will do this thing for me, I will again feed and keep your flock.

30:32 Yo pasaré hoy por todas tus ovejas, poniendo aparte todas las reses manchadas y de color vario, y todas las reses de color oscuro entre las ovejas, y las manchadas y de color vario entre las cabras; y esto será mi salario.

30:32 I will pass through all your flock to day, removing from thence all the speckled and spotted cattle, and all the brown cattle among the sheep, and the spotted and speckled among the goats: and of such shall be my hire.

30:33 Así responderá por mí mi justicia mañana cuando me viniere mi salario delante de ti: toda la que no fuere pintada ni manchada en las cabras y de color oscuro en las ovejas mías, se me ha de tener por de hurto.

30:33 So shall my righteousness answer for me in time to come, when it shall come for my hire before your face: every one that is not speckled and spotted among the goats, and brown among the sheep, that shall be counted stolen with me.

30:34 Y dijo Labán: Mira, ojalá fuese como tú dices.

30:34 And Laban said, Behold, I would it might be according to your word.

30:35 Y apartó aquel día los machos de cabrío rayados y manchados; y todas las cabras manchadas y de color vario, y toda res que tenía en sí algo de blanco, y todas las de color oscuro entre las ovejas, y púsolas en manos de sus hijos;

30:35 And he removed that day the he goats that were striped with bands and spotted, and all the she goats that were speckled and spotted, and every one that had some white in it, and all the brown among the sheep, and gave them into the hand of his sons.

30:36 Y puso tres días de camino entre sí y Jacob: y Jacob apacentaba las otras ovejas de Labán.

30:36 And he set three days' journey between himself and Jacob: and Jacob fed the rest of Laban's flocks.

30:37 Y tomóse Jacob varas de álamo verdes, y de avellano, y de castaño, y descortezó en ellas mondaduras blancas, descubriendo así lo blanco de las varas.

30:37 And Jacob took him rods of green poplar, and of the hazel and chestnut tree; and stripped white strakes in them, and made the white appear which was in the rods.

30:38 Y puso las varas que había mondado en las pilas, delante del ganado, en los abrevaderos del agua donde venían á beber las ovejas, las cuales se recalentaban viniendo á beber.

30:38 And he set the rods which he had stripped before the flocks in the gutters in the watering troughs when the flocks came to drink, that they should conceive when they came to drink.

30:39 Y concebían las ovejas delante de las varas, y parían borregos listados, pintados y salpicados de diversos colores.

30:39 And the flocks conceived before the rods, and brought forth cattle striped with bands, speckled, and spotted.

30:40 Y apartaba Jacob los corderos, y poníalos con su rebaño, los listados, y todo lo que era oscuro en el hato de Labán. Y ponía su hato aparte, y no lo ponía con las ovejas de Labán.

30:40 And Jacob did separate the lambs, and set the faces of the flocks toward the striped with bands, and all the brown in the flock of Laban; and he put his own flocks by themselves, and put them not unto Laban's cattle.

30:41 Y sucedía que cuantas veces se recalentaban las tempranas, Jacob ponía las varas delante de las ovejas en las pilas, para que concibiesen á la vista de las varas.

30:41 And it came to pass, whenever the stronger cattle did conceive, that Jacob laid the rods before the eyes of the cattle in the gutters, that they might conceive among the rods.

30:42 Y cuando venían las ovejas tardías, no las ponía: así eran las tardías para Labán, y las tempranas para Jacob.

30:42 But when the cattle were feeble, he put them not in: so the feebler were Laban's, and the stronger Jacob's.

30:43 Y acreció el varón muy mucho, y tuvo muchas ovejas, y siervas y siervos, y camellos y asnos.

30:43 And the man increased exceedingly, and had much cattle, and maidservants, and male servants, and camels, and asses.

Genesis / GÉNESIS

31:1 Y OIA él las palabras de los hijos de Labán que decían: Jacob ha tomado todo lo que era de nuestro padre; y de lo que era de nuestro padre ha adquirido toda esta grandeza.

31:1 And he heard the words of Laban's sons, saying, Jacob has taken away all that was our father's; and of that which was our father's has he got all this glory.

31:2 Miraba también Jacob el semblante de Labán, y veía que no era para con él como ayer y antes de ayer.

31:2 And Jacob beheld the countenance of Laban, and, behold, it was not toward him as before.

31:3 También Jehová dijo á Jacob: Vuélvete á la tierra de tus padres, y á tu parentela; que yo seré contigo.

31:3 And the LORD said unto Jacob, Return unto the land of your fathers, and to your kindred; and I will be with you.

31:4 Y envió Jacob, y llamó á Rachêl y á Lea al campo á sus ovejas,

31:4 And Jacob sent and called Rachel and Leah to the field unto his flock,

31:5 Y díjoles: Veo que el semblante de vuestro padre no es para conmigo como ayer y antes de ayer: mas el Dios de mi padre ha sido conmigo.

31:5 And said unto them, I see your father's countenance, that it is not toward me as before; but the God of my father has been with me.

31:6 Y vosotras sabéis que con todas mis fuerzas he servido á vuestro padre:

31:6 And all of you know that with all my power I have served your father.

31:7 Y vuestro padre me ha engañado, y me ha mudado el salario diez veces: pero Dios no le ha permitido que me hiciese mal.

31:7 And your father has deceived me, and changed my wages ten times; but God suffered him not to hurt me.

31:8 Si él decía así: Los pintados serán tu salario; entonces todas las ovejas parían pintados: y si decía así: Los listados serán tu salario; entonces todas las ovejas parían listados.

31:8 If he said thus, The speckled shall be your wages; then all the cattle bare speckled: and if he said thus, The striped with bands shall be your hire; then bare all the cattle striped with bands.

31:9 Así quitó Dios el ganado de vuestro padre, y diómelo á mí.

31:9 Thus God has taken away the cattle of your father, and given them to me.

31:10 Y sucedió que al tiempo que las ovejas se recalentaban, alcé yo mis ojos y vi en sueños, y he aquí los machos que cubrían á las hembras eran listados, pintados y abigarrados.

31:10 And it came to pass at the time that the cattle conceived, that I lifted up mine eyes, and saw in a dream, and, behold, the rams which leaped upon the cattle were striped with bands, speckled, and greyed.

31:11 Y díjome el ángel de Dios en sueños: Jacob. Y yo dije: Heme aquí.

31:11 And the angel of God spoke unto me in a dream, saying, Jacob: And I said, Here am I.

31:12 Y él dijo: Alza ahora tus ojos, y verás todos los machos que cubren á las ovejas listados, pintados y abigarrados; porque yo he visto todo lo que Labán te ha hecho.

31:12 And he said, Lift up now yours eyes, and see, all the rams which leap upon the cattle are striped with bands, speckled, and greyed: for I have seen all that Laban does unto you.

31:13 Yo soy el Dios de Beth-el, donde tú ungiste el título, y donde me hiciste un voto. Levántate ahora, y sal de esta tierra, y vuélvete á la tierra de tu naturaleza.

31:13 I am the God of Bethel, where you anointed the pillar, and where you vowed a vow unto me: now arise, get you out from this land, and return unto the land of your kindred.

31:14 Y respondió Rachêl y Lea, y dijéronle: ¿Tenemos ya parte ni heredad en la casa de nuestro padre?

31:14 And Rachel and Leah answered and said unto him, Is there yet any portion or inheritance for us in our father's house?

31:15 ¿No nos tiene ya como por extrañas, pues que nos vendió, y aun se ha comido del todo nuestro precio?

31:15 Are we not counted of him strangers? for he has sold us, and has quite devoured also our money.

31:16 Porque toda la riqueza que Dios ha quitado á nuestro padre, nuestra es y de nuestros hijos: ahora pues, haz todo lo que Dios te ha dicho.

31:16 For all the riches which God has taken from our father, that is ours, and our children's: now then, whatsoever God has said unto you, do.

31:17 Entonces se levantó Jacob, y subió sus hijos y sus mujeres sobre los camellos.

31:17 Then Jacob rose up, and set his sons and his wives upon camels;

31:18 Y puso en camino todo su ganado, y toda su hacienda que había adquirido, el ganado de su ganancia que había obtenido en Padan-aram, para volverse á Isaac su padre en la tierra de Canaán.

31:18 And he carried away all his cattle, and all his goods which he had got, the cattle of his getting, which he had got in Padanaram, in order to go to Isaac his father in the land of Canaan.

31:19 Y Labán había ido á trasquilar sus ovejas: y Rachêl hurtó los ídolos de su padre.

31:19 And Laban went to shear his sheep: and Rachel had stolen the images that were her father's.

31:20 Y recató Jacob el corazón de Labán Arameo, en no hacerle saber que se huía.

31:20 And Jacob stole away unexpectedly to Laban the Syrian, in that he told him not that he fled.

31:21 Huyó, pues, con todo lo que tenía; y levantóse, y pasó el río, y puso su rostro al monte de Galaad.

31:21 So he fled with all that he had; and he rose up, and passed over the river, and set his face toward the mount Gilead.

31:22 Y fué dicho á Labán al tercero día como Jacob se había huído.

31:22 And it was told Laban on the third day that Jacob was fled.

31:23 Entonces tomó á sus hermanos consigo, y fué tras él camino de siete días, y alcanzóle en el monte de Galaad.

31:23 And he took his brethren with him, and pursued after him seven days' journey; and they overtook him in the mount Gilead.

31:24 Y vino Dios á Labán Arameo en sueños aquella noche, y le dijo: Guárdate que no hables á Jacob descomedidamente.

31:24 And God came to Laban the Syrian in a dream by night, and said unto him, Take heed that you speak not to Jacob either good or bad.

31:25 Alcanzó pues Labán á Jacob, y éste había fijado su tienda en el monte: y Labán plantó la con sus hermanos en el monte de Galaad.

31:25 Then Laban overtook Jacob. Now Jacob had pitched his tent in the mount: and Laban with his brethren pitched in the mount of Gilead.

31:26 Y dijo Labán á Jacob: ¿Qué has hecho, que me hurtaste el corazón, y has traído á mis hijas como prisioneras de guerra?

31:26 And Laban said to Jacob, What have you done, that you have stolen away unexpectedly to me, and carried away my daughters, as captives taken with the sword?

31:27 ¿Por qué te escondiste para huir, y me hurtaste, y no me diste noticia, para que yo te enviara con alegría y con cantares, con tamborín y vihuela?

31:27 Wherefore did you flee away secretly, and steal away from me; and did not tell me, that I might have sent you away with delight, and with songs, with timbrel, and with harp?

31:28 Que aun no me dejaste besar mis hijos y mis hijas. Ahora locamente has hecho.

31:28 And have not suffered me to kiss my sons and my daughters? you have now done foolishly in so doing.

31:29 Poder hay en mi mano para haceros mal: mas el Dios de vuestro padre me habló anoche diciendo: Guárdate que no hables á Jacob descomedidamente.

31:29 It is in the power of my hand to do you hurt: but the God of your father spoke unto me last night, saying, Take you heed that you speak not to Jacob either good or bad.

31:30 Y ya que te ibas, porque tenías deseo de la casa de tu padre, ¿por qué me hurtaste mis dioses?

31:30 And now, though you would essentially be gone, because you sore longed after your father's house, yet wherefore have you stolen my gods?

31:31 Y Jacob respondió, y dijo á Labán: Porque tuve miedo; pues dije, que quizás me quitarías por fuerza tus hijas.

31:31 And Jacob answered and said to Laban, Because I was afraid: for I said, Possibly you would take by force your daughters from me.

31:32 En quien hallares tus dioses, no viva: delante de nuestros hermanos reconoce lo que yo tuviere tuyo, y llévatelo. Jacob no sabía que Rachêl los había hurtado.

31:32 With whomsoever you find your gods, let him not live: before our brethren discern you what is yours with me, and take it to you. For Jacob knew not that Rachel had stolen them.

31:33 Y entró Labán en la tienda de Jacob, y en la tienda de Lea, y en la tienda de las dos siervas, y no los halló, y salió de la tienda de Lea, y vino á la tienda de Rachêl.

31:33 And Laban went into Jacob's tent, and into Leah's tent, and into the two maidservants' tents; but he found them not. Then went he out of Leah's tent, and entered into Rachel's tent.

31:34 Y tomó Rachêl los ídolos, y púsolos en una albarda de un camello, y sentóse sobre ellos: y tentó Labán toda la tienda y no los halló.

31:34 Now Rachel had taken the images, and put them in the camel's furniture, and sat upon them. And Laban searched all the tent, but found them not.

31:35 Y ella dijo á su padre: No se enoje mi señor, porque no me puedo levantar delante de ti; pues estoy con la costumbre de las mujeres. Y él buscó, pero no halló los ídolos.

31:35 And she said to her father, Let it not displease my lord that I cannot rise up before you; for the custom of women is upon me. And he searched but found not the images.

31:36 Entonces Jacob se enojó, y regañó con Labán; y respondió Jacob y dijo á Labán: ¿Qué prevaricación es la mía? ¿cuál es mi pecado, que con tanto ardor has venido en seguimiento mío?

31:36 And Jacob was angry, and find fault with Laban: and Jacob answered and said to Laban, What is my trespass? what is my sin, that you have so hotly pursued after me?

31:37 Pues que has tentado todos mis muebles, ¿qué has hallado de todas las alhajas de tu casa? Ponlo aquí denlante de mis hermanos y tuyos, y juzguen entre nosotros ambos.

31:37 Whereas you have searched all my stuff, what have you found of all your household stuff? set it here before my brethren and your brethren, that they may judge between us both.

31:38 Estos veinte años he estado contigo: tus ovejas y tus cabras nunca abortaron, ni yo comí carnero de tus ovejas.

31:38 This twenty years have I been with you; your ewes and your she goats have not cast their young, and the rams of your flock have I not eaten.

31:39 Nunca te traje lo arrebatado por las fieras; yo pagaba el daño; lo hurtado así de día como de noche, de mi mano lo requerías.

31:39 That which was torn of beasts I brought not unto you; I bare the loss of it; of my hand did you require it, whether stolen by day, or stolen by night.

31:40 De día me consumía el calor, y de noche la helada, y el sueño se huía de mis ojos.

31:40 Thus I was; in the day the drought consumed me, and the frost by night; and my sleep departed from mine eyes.

31:41 Así he estado veinte años en tu casa: catorce años te serví por tus dos hijas, y seis años por tu ganado; y has mudado mi salario diez veces.

31:41 Thus have I been twenty years in your house; I served you fourteen years for your two daughters, and six years for your cattle: and you have changed my wages ten times.

31:42 Si el Dios de mi padre, el Dios de Abraham, y el temor de Isaac, no fuera conmigo, de cierto me enviarías ahora vacío: vió Dios mi aflicción y el trabajo de mis manos, y reprendióte anoche.

31:42 Except the God of my father, the God of Abraham, and the fear of Isaac, had been with me, surely you had sent me away now empty. God has seen mine affliction and the labour of my hands, and rebuked you last night.

31:43 Y respondió Labán, y dijo á Jacob: Las hijas son hijas mías, y los hijos, hijos míos son, y las ovejas son mis ovejas, y todo lo que tú ves es mío: ¿y que puedo yo hacer hoy á estas mis hijas, ó á sus hijos que ellas han parido?

31:43 And Laban answered and said unto Jacob, These daughters are my daughters, and these children are my children, and these cattle are my cattle, and all that you see is mine: and what can I do this day unto these my daughters, or unto their children which they have born?

31:44 Ven pues ahora, hagamos alianza yo y tú; y sea en testimonio entre mí y entre ti.

31:44 Now therefore come you, let us make a covenant, I and you; and let it be for a witness between me and you.

31:45 Entonces Jacob tomó una piedra, y levantóla por título.

31:45 And Jacob took a stone, and set it up for a pillar.

31:46 Y dijo Jacob á sus hermanos: Coged piedras. Y tomaron piedras é hicieron un majano; y comieron allí sobre aquel majano.

31:46 And Jacob said unto his brethren, Gather stones; and they took stones, and made an heap: and they did eat there upon the heap.

31:47 Y llamólo Labán Jegar Sahadutha: y lo llamó Jacob Galaad.

31:47 And Laban called it Jegarsahadutha: but Jacob called it Galeed.

31:48 Porque Labán dijo: Este majano es testigo hoy entre mí y entre ti; por eso fué llamado su nombre Galaad.

31:48 And Laban said, This heap is a witness between me and you this day. Therefore was the name of it called Galeed;

31:49 Y Mizpa, por cuanto dijo: Atalaye Jehová entre mí y entre ti, cuando nos apartáremos el uno del otro.

31:49 And Mizpah; for he said, The LORD watch between me and you, when we are absent one from another.

31:50 Si afligieres mis hijas, ó si tomares otras mujeres además de mis hijas, nadie está con nosotros; mira, Dios es testigo entre mí y entre ti.

31:50 If you shall afflict my daughters, or if you shall take other wives beside my daughters, no man is with us; see, God is witness between me and you.

31:51 Dijo más Labán á Jacob: He aquí este majano, y he aquí este título, que he erigido entre mí y ti.

31:51 And Laban said to Jacob, Behold this heap, and behold this pillar, which I have cast between me and you:

31:52 Testigo sea este majano, y testigo sea este título, que ni yo pasaré contra ti este majano, ni tú pasarás contra mí este majano ni este título, para mal.

31:52 This heap be witness, and this pillar be witness, that I will not pass over this heap to you, and that you shall not pass over this heap and this pillar unto me, for harm.

31:53 El Dios de Abraham, y el Dios de Nachôr juzgue entre nosotros, el Dios de sus padres. Y Jacob juró por el temor de Isaac su padre.

31:53 The God of Abraham, and the God of Nahor, the God of their father, judge between us. And Jacob swore by the fear of his father Isaac.

31:54 Entonces Jacob inmoló víctimas en el monte, y llamó á sus hermanos á comer pan: y comieron pan, y durmieron aquella noche en el monte.

31:54 Then Jacob offered sacrifice upon the mount, and called his brethren to eat bread: and they did eat bread, and tarried all night in the mount.

31:55 Y levantóse Labán de mañana, y besó sus hijos y sus hijas, y los bendijo; y retrocedió y volvióso á su lugar.

31:55 And early in the morning Laban rose up, and kissed his sons and his daughters, and blessed them: and Laban departed, and returned unto his place.

32:1 Y JACOB se fué su camino, y saliéronle al encuentro ángeles de Dios.

32:1 And Jacob went on his way, and the angels of God met him.

32:2 Y dijo Jacob cuando los vió: El campo de Dios es este: y llamó el nombre de aquel lugar Mahanaim.

32:2 And when Jacob saw them, he said, This is God's host: and he called the name of that place Mahanaim.

32:3 Y envió Jacob mensajeros delante de sí á Esaú su hermano, á la tierra de Seir, campo de Edom.

32:3 And Jacob sent messengers before him to Esau his brother unto the land of Seir, the country of Edom.

32:4 Y mandóles diciendo: Así diréis á mí señor Esaú: Así dice tu siervo Jacob: Con Labán he morado, y detenídome hasta ahora;

32:4 And he commanded them, saying, Thus shall all of you speak unto my lord Esau; Your servant Jacob says thus, I have sojourned with Laban, and stayed there until now:

32:5 Y tengo vacas, y asnos, y ovejas, y siervos y siervas; y envío á decirlo á mi señor, por hallar gracia en tus ojos.

32:5 And I have oxen, and asses, flocks, and male servants, and female servants: and I have sent to tell my lord, that I may find grace in your sight.

32:6 Y los mensajeros volvieron á Jacob, diciendo: Vinimos á tu hermano Esaú, y él también vino á recibirte, y cuatrocientos hombres con él.

32:6 And the messengers returned to Jacob, saying, We came to your brother Esau, and also he comes to meet you, and four hundred men with him.

32:7 Entonces Jacob tuvo gran temor, y angustióse; y partió el pueblo que tenía consigo, y las ovejas y las vacas y los camellos, en dos cuadrillas;

32:7 Then Jacob was greatly afraid and distressed: and he divided the people that was with him, and the flocks, and herds, and the camels, into two bands;

32:8 Y dijo: Si viniere Esaú á la una cuadrilla y la hiriere, la otra cuadrilla escapará.

32:8 And said, If Esau come to the one company, and strike it, then the other company which is left shall escape.

32:9 Y dijo Jacob: Dios de mi padre Abraham, y Dios de mi padre Isaac, Jehová, que me dijiste: Vuélvete á tu tierra y á tu parentela, y yo te haré bien.

32:9 And Jacob said, O God of my father Abraham, and God of my father Isaac, the LORD which said unto me, Return unto your country, and to your kindred, and I will deal well with you:

32:10 Menor soy que todas las misericordias, y que toda la verdad que has usado para con tu siervo; que con mi bordón pasé este Jordán, y ahora estoy sobre dos cuadrillas.

32:10 I am not worthy of the least of all the mercies, and of all the truth, which you have showed unto your servant; for with my staff I passed over this Jordan; and now I am become two bands.

32:11 Líbrame ahora de la mano de mi hermano, de la mano de Esaú, porque le temo; no venga quizá, y me hiera la madre con los hijos.

32:11 Deliver me, I pray you, from the hand of my brother, from the hand of Esau: for I fear him, lest he will come and strike me, and the mother with the children.

32:12 Y tú has dicho: Yo te haré bien, y pondré tu simiente como la arena del mar, que no se puede contar por la multitud.

32:12 And you said, I will surely do you good, and make your seed as the sand of the sea, which cannot be numbered for multitude.

32:13 Y durmió allí aquella noche, y tomó de lo que le vino á la mano un presente para su hermano Esaú.

32:13 And he lodged there that same night; and took of that which came to his hand a present for Esau his brother;

32:14 Doscientas cabras y veinte machos de cabrío, doscientas ovejas y veinte carneros,

32:14 Two hundred she goats, and twenty he goats, two hundred ewes, and twenty rams,

32:15 Treinta camellas paridas, con sus hijos, cuarenta vacas y diez novillos, veinte asnas y diez borricos.

32:15 Thirty milk giving camels with their colts, forty cattle, and ten bulls, twenty she asses, and ten foals.

32:16 Y entrególo en mano de sus siervos, cada manada de por sí; y dijo á sus siervos: Pasad delante de mí, y poned espacio entre manada y manada.

32:16 And he delivered them into the hand of his servants, every drove by themselves; and said unto his servants, Pass over before me, and put a space between drove and drove.

32:17 Y mandó al primero, diciendo: Si Esaú mi hermano te encontrare, y te preguntare, diciendo ¿De quién eres? ¿y adónde vas? ¿y para quién es esto que llevas delante de ti?

32:17 And he commanded the foremost, saying, When Esau my brother meet you, and asks you, saying, Whose are you? and where go you? and whose are these before you?

32:18 Entonces dirás: Presente es de tu siervo Jacob, que envía á mi señor Esaú; y he aquí también él viene tras nosotros.

32:18 Then you shall say, They be your servant Jacob's; it is a present sent unto my lord Esau: and, behold, also he is behind us.

32:19 Y mandó también al segundo, y al tercero, y á todos los que iban tras aquellas manadas, diciendo: Conforme á esto hablaréis á Esaú, cuando le hallareis.

32:19 And so commanded he the second, and the third, and all that followed the droves, saying, On this manner shall all of you speak unto Esau, when all of you find him.

32:20 Y diréis también: He aquí tu siervo Jacob viene tras nosotros. Porque dijo: Apaciguaré su ira con el presente que va delante de mí, y después veré su rostro: quizá le seré acepto.

32:20 And say all of you moreover, Behold, your servant Jacob is behind us. For he said, I will appease him with the present that goes before me, and afterward I will see his face; possibly he will accept of me.

32:21 Y pasó el presente delante de él; y él durmió aquella noche en el campamento.

32:21 So went the present over before him: and himself lodged that night in the company.

32:22 Y levantóse aquella noche, y tomó sus dos mujeres, y sus dos siervas, y sus once hijos, y pasó el vado de Jaboc.

32:22 And he rose up that night, and took his two wives, and his two female servants, and his eleven sons, and passed over the ford Jabbok.

32:23 Tomólos pues, y pasólos el arroyo, é hizo pasar lo que tenía.

32:23 And he took them, and sent them over the brook, and sent over that he had.

32:24 Y quedóse Jacob solo, y luchó con él un varón hasta que rayaba el alba.

32:24 And Jacob was left alone; and there wrestled a man with him until the breaking of the day.

32:25 Y como vió que no podía con él, tocó en el sitio del encaje de su muslo, y descoyuntóse el muslo de Jacob mientras con él luchaba.

32:25 And when he saw that he prevailed not against him, he touched the hollow of his thigh; and the hollow of Jacob's thigh was out of joint, as he wrestled with him.

32:26 Y dijo: Déjame, que raya el alba. Y él dijo: No te dejaré, si no me bendices.

32:26 And he said, Let me go, for the day breaks. And he said, I will not let you go, except you bless me.

32:27 Y él le dijo: ¿Cuál es tu nombre? Y él respondió: Jacob.

32:27 And he said unto him, What is your name? And he said, Jacob.

32:28 Y él dijo: No se dirá más tu nombre Jacob, sino Israel: porque has peleado con Dios y con los hombres, y has vencido.

32:28 And he said, Your name shall be called no more Jacob, but Israel: for as a prince have you power with God and with men, and have prevailed.

32:29 Entonces Jacob le preguntó, y dijo: Declárame ahora tu nombre. Y él respondió: ¿Por qué preguntas por mi nombre? Y bendíjolo allí.

32:29 And Jacob asked him, and said, Tell me, I pray you, your name. And he said, Wherefore is it that you do ask after my name? And he blessed him there.

32:30 Y llamó Jacob el nombre de aquel lugar Peniel: porque vi á Dios cara á cara, y fué librada mi alma.

32:30 And Jacob called the name of the place Peniel: for I have seen God face to face, and my life is preserved.

32:31 Y salióle el sol pasado que hubo á Peniel; y cojeaba de su anca.

32:31 And as he passed over Penuel the sun rose upon him, and he halted upon his thigh.

32:32 Por esto no comen los hijos de Israel, hasta hoy día, del tendón que se contrajo, el cual está en el encaje del muslo: porque tocó á Jacob este sitio de su muslo en el tendón que se contrajo.

32:32 Therefore the children of Israel eat not of the sinew which shrank, which is upon the hollow of the thigh, unto this day: because he touched the hollow of Jacob's thigh in the sinew that shrank.

33:1 Y ALZANDO Jacob sus ojos miró, y he aquí venía Esaú, y los cuatrocientos hombres con él: entonces repartió él los niños entre Lea y Rachêl y las dos siervas.

33:1 And Jacob lifted up his eyes, and looked, and, behold, Esau came, and with him four hundred men. And he divided the children unto Leah, and unto Rachel, and unto the two handmaids.

33:2 Y puso las siervas y sus niños delante; luego á Lea y á sus niños; y á Rachêl y á José los postreros.

33:2 And he put the handmaids and their children foremost, and Leah and her children after, and Rachel and Joseph hindermost.

33:3 Y él pasó delante de ellos, é inclinóse á tierra siete veces, hasta que llegó á su hermano.

33:3 And he passed over before them, and bowed himself to the ground seven times, until he came near to his brother.

33:4 Y Esaú corrió á su encuentro, y abrazóle, y echóse sobre su cuello, y le besó; y lloraron.

33:4 And Esau ran to meet him, and embraced him, and fell on his neck, and kissed him: and they wept.

33:5 Y alzó sus ojos, y vió las mujeres y los niños, y dijo: ¿Qué te tocan éstos? Y él respondió: Son los niños que Dios ha dado á tu siervo.

33:5 And he lifted up his eyes, and saw the women and the children; and said, Who are those with you? And he said, The children which God has graciously given your servant.

33:6 Y se llegaron las siervas, ellas y sus niños, é inclináronse.

33:6 Then the handmaidens came near, they and their children, and they bowed themselves.

33:7 Y llegóse Lea con sus niños, é inclináronse: y después llegó José y Rachêl, y también se inclinaron.

33:7 And Leah also with her children came near, and bowed themselves: and after came Joseph near and Rachel, and they bowed themselves.

33:8 Y él dijo: ¿Qué te propones con todas estas cuadrillas que he encontrado? Y él respondió: El hallar gracia en los ojos de mi señor.

33:8 And he said, What mean you by all this drove which I met? And he said, These are to find grace in the sight of my lord.

33:9 Y dijo Esaú: Harto tengo yo, hermano mío: sea para ti lo que es tuyo.

33:9 And Esau said, I have enough, my brother; keep that you have unto yourself.

33:10 Y dijo Jacob: No, yo te ruego, si he hallado ahora gracia en tus ojos, toma mi presente de mi mano, pues que así he visto tu rostro, como si hubiera visto el rostro de Dios; y hazme placer.

33:10 And Jacob said, Nay, I pray you, if now I have found grace in your sight, then receive my present at my hand: for therefore I have seen your face, as though I had seen the face of God, and you were pleased with me.

33:11 Toma, te ruego, mi dádiva que te es traída; porque Dios me ha hecho merced, y todo lo que hay aquí es mío. Y porfió con él, y tomóla.

33:11 Take, I pray you, my blessing that is brought to you; because God has dealt graciously with me, and because I have enough. And he urged him, and he took it.

33:12 Y dijo: Anda, y vamos; y yo iré delante de ti.

33:12 And he said, Let us take our journey, and let us go, and I will go before you.

33:13 Y él le dijo: Mi señor sabe que los niños son tiernos, y que tengo ovejas y vacas paridas; y si las fatigan, en un día morirán todas las ovejas.

33:13 And he said unto him, My lord knows that the children are tender, and the flocks and herds with young are with me: and if men should beat them one day, all the flock will die.

33:14 Pase ahora mi señor delante de su siervo, y yo me iré poco á poco al paso de la hacienda que va delante de mí, y al paso de los niños, hasta que llegue á mi señor á Seir.

33:14 Let my lord, I pray you, pass over before his servant: and I will lead on softly, according as the cattle that goes before me and the children be able to endure, until I come unto my lord unto Seir.

33:15 Y Esaú dijo: Dejaré ahora contigo de la gente que viene conmigo. Y él dijo: ¿Para qué esto? halle yo gracia en los ojos de mi señor.

33:15 And Esau said, Let me now leave with you some of the folk that are with me. And he said, What needs it? let me find grace in the sight of my lord.

33:16 Así se volvió Esaú aquel día por su camino á Seir.

33:16 So Esau returned that day on his way unto Seir.

33:17 Y Jacob se partió á Succoth, y edificó allí casa para sí, é hizo cabañas para su ganado: por tanto llamó el nombre de aquel lugar Succoth.

33:17 And Jacob journeyed to Succoth, and built him an house, and made booths for his cattle: therefore the name of the place is called Succoth.

33:18 Y vino Jacob sano á la ciudad de Sichêm, que está en la tierra de Canaán, cuando venía de Padan-aram; y acampó delante de la ciudad.

33:18 And Jacob came to Shalem, a city of Shechem, which is in the land of Canaan, when he came from Padanaram; and pitched his tent before the city.

33:19 Y compró una parte del campo, donde tendió su tienda, de mano de los hijos de Hamor, padre de Sichêm, por cien piezas de moneda.

33:19 And he bought a parcel of a field, where he had spread his tent, at the hand of the children of Hamor, Shechem's father, for an hundred pieces of money.

33:20 Y erigió allí un altar, y llamóle: El Dios de Israel.

33:20 And he erected there an altar, and called it EleloheIsrael.

34:1 Y SALIO Dina la hija de Lea, la cual había ésta parido á Jacob, á ver las hijas del país.

34:1 And Dinah the daughter of Leah, which she bare unto Jacob, went out to see the daughters of the land.

34:2 Y vióla Sichêm, hijo de Hamor Heveo, príncipe de aquella tierra, y tomóla, y echóse con ella, y la deshonró.

34:2 And when Shechem the son of Hamor the Hivite, prince of the country, saw her, he took her, and lay with her, and defiled her.

34:3 Mas su alma se apegó á Dina la hija de Lea, y enamoróse de la moza, y habló al corazón de la joven.

34:3 And his soul clave unto Dinah the daughter of Jacob, and he loved the damsel, and spoke kindly unto the damsel.

34:4 Y habló Sichêm á Hamor su padre, diciendo: Tómame por mujer esta moza.

34:4 And Shechem spoke unto his father Hamor, saying, Get me this damsel to wife.

34:5 Y oyó Jacob que había Sichêm amancillado á Dina su hija: y estando sus hijos con su ganando en el campo, calló Jacob hasta que ellos viniesen.

34:5 And Jacob heard that he had defiled Dinah his daughter: now his sons were with his cattle in the field: and Jacob held his peace until they were come.

34:6 Y dirigióse Hamor padre de Sichêm á Jacob, para hablar con él.

34:6 And Hamor the father of Shechem went out unto Jacob to commune with him.

34:7 Y los hijos de Jacob vinieron del campo cuando lo supieron; y se entristecieron los varones, y se ensañaron mucho, porque hizo vileza en Israel echándose con la hija de Jacob, lo que no se debía haber hecho.

34:7 And the sons of Jacob came out of the field when they heard it: and the men were grieved, and they were very angry, because he had wrought folly in Israel in lying with Jacob's daughter: which thing ought not to be done.

34:8 Y Hamor habló con ellos, diciendo: El alma de mi hijo Sichêm se ha apegado á vuestra hija; ruégoos que se la deis por mujer.

34:8 And Hamor communed with them, saying, The soul of my son Shechem longs for your daughter: I pray you give her him to wife.

34:9 Y emparentad con nosotros; dadnos vuestras hijas, y tomad vosotros las nuestras.

34:9 And make all of you marriages with us, and give your daughters unto us, and take our daughters unto you.

34:10 Y habitad con nostros; porque la tierra estará delante de vosotros; morad y negociad en ella, y tomad en ella posesión.

34:10 And all of you shall dwell with us: and the land shall be before you; dwell and trade all of you therein, and get you possessions therein.

34:11 Sichêm también dijo á su padre y á sus hermanos: Halle yo gracia en vuestros ojos, y daré lo que me dijereis.

34:11 And Shechem said unto her father and unto her brethren, Let me find grace in your eyes, and what all of you shall say unto me I will give.

34:12 Aumentad á cargo mío mucho dote y dones, que yo daré cuanto me dijereis, y dadme la moza por mujer.

34:12 Ask me never so much dowry and gift, and I will give according as all of you shall say unto me: but give me the damsel to wife.

34:13 Y respondieron los hijos de Jacob á Sichêm y á Hamor su padre con engaño; y parlaron, por cuanto había amancillado á Dina su hermana.

34:13 And the sons of Jacob answered Shechem and Hamor his father deceitfully, and said, because he had defiled Dinah their sister:

34:14 Y dijéronles: No podemos hacer esto de dar nuestra hermana á hombre que tiene prepucio; porque entre nosotros es abominación.

34:14 And they said unto them, We cannot do this thing, to give our sister to one that is uncircumcised; for that were a reproach unto us:

34:15 Mas con esta condición os haremos placer: si habéis de ser como nosotros, que se circuncide entre vosotros todo varón;

34:15 But in this will we consent unto you: If all of you will be as we be, that every male of you be circumcised;

34:16 Entonces os daremos nuestras hijas, y tomaremos nosotros las vuestras; y habitaremos con vosotros, y seremos un pueblo.

34:16 Then will we give our daughters unto you, and we will take your daughters to us, and we will dwell with you, and we will become one people.

34:17 Mas si no nos prestareis oído para circuncidaros, tomaremos nuestra hija, y nos iremos.

34:17 But if all of you will not hearken unto us, to be circumcised; then will we take our daughter, and we will be gone.

34:18 Y parecieron bien sus palabras á Hamor y á Sichêm, hijo de Hamor.

34:18 And their words pleased Hamor, and Shechem Hamor's son.

34:19 Y no dilató el mozo hacer aquello, porque la hija de Jacob le había agradado: y él era el más honrado de toda la casa de su padre.

34:19 And the young man deferred not to do the thing, because he had delight in Jacob's daughter: and he was more honourable than all the house of his father.

34:20 Entonces Hamor y Sichêm su hijo vinieron á la puerta de su ciudad, y hablaron á los varones de su ciudad, diciendo:

34:20 And Hamor and Shechem his son came unto the gate of their city, and communed with the men of their city, saying,

34:21 Estos varones son pacíficos con nosotros, y habitarán en el país, y traficarán en él: pues he aquí la tierra es bastante ancha para ellos: nosotros tomaremos sus hijas por mujeres, y les daremos las nuestras.

34:21 These men are peaceable with us; therefore let them dwell in the land, and trade therein; for the land, behold, it is large enough for them; let us take their daughters to us for wives, and let us give them our daughters.

34:22 Mas con esta condición nos harán estos hombres el placer de habitar con nosotros, para que seamos un pueblo: si se circuncidare en nosotros todo varón, así como ellos son circuncidados.

34:22 Only herein will the men consent unto us in order to dwell with us, to be one people, if every male among us be circumcised, as they are circumcised.

34:23 Sus ganados, y su hacienda y todas sus bestias, serán nuestras: solamente convengamos con ellos, y habitarán con nosotros.

34:23 Shall not their cattle and their substance and every beast of their's be our's? only let us consent unto them, and they will dwell with us.

34:24 Y obedecieron á Hamor y á Sichêm su hijo todos los que salían por la puerta de la ciudad, y circuncidaron á todo varón, á cuantos salían por la puerta de su ciudad.

34:24 And unto Hamor and unto Shechem his son hearkened all that went out of the gate of his city; and every male was circumcised, all that went out of the gate of his city.

34:25 Y sucedió que al tercer día, cuando sentían ellos el mayor dolor, los dos hijos de Jacob, Simeón y Leví, hermanos de Dina, tomaron cada uno su espada, y vinieron contra la ciudad animosamente, y mataron á todo varón.

34:25 And it came to pass on the third day, when they were sore, that two of the sons of Jacob, Simeon and Levi, Dinah's brethren, took each man his sword, and came upon the city boldly, and slew all the males.

34:26 Y á Hamor y á Sichêm su hijo los mataron á filo de espada: y tomaron á Dina de casa de Sichêm, y saliéronse.

34:26 And they slew Hamor and Shechem his son with the edge of the sword, and took Dinah out of Shechem's house, and went out.

34:27 Y los hijos de Jacob vinieron á los muertos y saquearon la ciudad; por cuanto habían amancillado á su hermana.

34:27 The sons of Jacob came upon the slain, and spoiled the city, because they had defiled their sister.

34:28 Tomaron sus ovejas y vacas y sus asnos, y lo que había en la ciudad y en el campo,

34:28 They took their sheep, and their oxen, and their asses, and that which was in the city, and that which was in the field,

34:29 Y toda su hacienda; se llevaron cautivos á todos sus niños y sus mujeres, y robaron todo lo que había en casa.

34:29 And all their wealth, and all their little ones, and their wives took they captive, and spoiled even all that was in the house.

34:30 Entonces dijo Jacob á Simeón y á Leví: Habéisme turbado con hacerme abominable á los moradores de aquesta tierra, el Cananeo y el Pherezeo; y teniendo yo pocos hombres, juntarse han contra mí, y me herirán, y seré destruido yo y mi casa.

34:30 And Jacob said to Simeon and Levi, All of you have troubled me to make me to stink among the inhabitants of the land, among the Canaanites and the Perizzites: and I being few in number, they shall gather themselves together against me, and slay me; and I shall be destroyed, I and my house.

34:31 Y ellos respondieron ¿Había él de tratar á nuestra hermana como á una ramera?

35:1 Y DIJO Dios á Jacob: Levántate, sube á Beth-el, y estáte allí; y haz allí un altar al Dios que te apareció cuando huías de tu hermano Esaú.

35:1 And God said unto Jacob, Arise, go up to Bethel, and dwell there: and make there an altar unto God, that appeared unto you when you fled from the face of Esau your brother.

35:2 Entonces Jacob dijo á su familia y á todos los que con él estaban: Quitad los dioses ajenos que hay entre vosotros, y limpiaos, y mudad vuestros vestidos.

35:2 Then Jacob said unto his household, and to all that were with him, Put away the strange gods that are among you, and be clean, and change your garments:

35:3 Y levantémonos, y subamos á Beth-el; y haré allí altar al Dios que me respondió en el día de mi angustia, y ha sido conmigo en el camino que he andado.

35:3 And let us arise, and go up to Bethel; and I will make there an altar unto God, who answered me in the day of my distress, and was with me in the way which I went.

35:4 Así dieron á Jacob todos los dioses ajenos que había en poder de ellos, y los zarzillos que estaban en sus orejas; y Jacob los escondió debajo de una encina, que estaba junto á Sichêm.

35:4 And they gave unto Jacob all the strange gods which were in their hand, and all their earrings which were in their ears; and Jacob hid them under the oak which was by Shechem.

35:5 Y partiéronse, y el terror de Dios fué sobre las ciudades que había en sus alrededores, y no siguieron tras los hijos de Jacob.

35:5 And they journeyed: and the terror of God was upon the cities that were round about them, and they did not pursue after the sons of Jacob.

35:6 Y llegó Jacob á Luz, que está en tierra de Canaán, (esta es Beth-el) él y todo el pueblo que con él estaba;

35:6 So Jacob came to Luz, which is in the land of Canaan, that is, Bethel, he and all the people that were with him.

35:7 Y edificó allí un altar, y llamó el lugar El-Beth-el, porque allí le había aparecido Dios, cuando huía de su hermano.

35:7 And he built there an altar, and called the place Elbethel: because there God appeared unto him, when he fled from the face of his brother.

35:8 Entonces murió Débora, ama de Rebeca, y fue sepultada á las raíces de Beth-el, debajo de una encina: y llamóse su nombre Allon-Bacuth.

35:8 But Deborah Rebekah's nurse died, and she was buried beneath Bethel under an oak: and the name of it was called Allonbachuth.

35:9 Y aparecióse otra vez Dios á Jacob, cuando se había vuelto de Padan-aram, y bendíjole.

35:9 And God appeared unto Jacob again, when he came out of Padanaram, and blessed him.

35:10 Y díjole Dios: Tu nombre es Jacob; no se llamará más tu nombre Jacob, sino Israel será tu nombre: y llamó su nombre Israel.

35:10 And God said unto him, Your name is Jacob: your name shall not be called any more Jacob, but Israel shall be your name: and he called his name Israel.

35:11 Y díjole Dios: Yo soy el Dios Omnipotente: crece y multiplícate; una nación y conjunto de naciones procederá de ti, y reyes saldrán de tus lomos:

35:11 And God said unto him, I am God Almighty: be fruitful and multiply; a nation and a company of nations shall be of you, and kings shall come out of your loins;

35:12 Y la tierra que yo he dado á Abraham y á Isaac, la daré á ti: y á tu simiente después de ti daré la tierra.

35:12 And the land which I gave Abraham and Isaac, to you I will give it, and to your seed after you will I give the land.

35:13 Y fuése de él Dios, del lugar donde con él había hablado.

35:13 And God went up from him in the place where he talked with him.

35:14 Y Jacob erigió un título en el lugar donde había hablado con él, un título de piedra, y derramó sobre él libación, y echó sobre él aceite.

35:14 And Jacob set up a pillar in the place where he talked with him, even a pillar of stone: and he poured a drink offering thereon, and he poured oil thereon.

35:15 Y llamó Jacob el nombre de aquel lugar donde Dios había hablado con él, Beth-el.

35:15 And Jacob called the name of the place where God spoke with him, Bethel.

35:16 Y partieron de Beth-el, y había aún como media legua de tierra para llegar á Ephrata, cuando parió Rachêl, y hubo trabajo en su parto.

35:16 And they journeyed from Bethel; and there was but a little way to come to Ephrath: and Rachel travailed, and she had hard labour.

35:17 Y aconteció, que como había trabajo en su parir, díjole la partera: No temas, que también tendrás este hijo.

35:17 And it came to pass, when she was in hard labour, that the midwife said unto her, Fear not; you shall have this son also.

35:18 Y acaeció que al salírsele el alma, (pues murió) llamó su nombre Benoni; mas su padre lo llamó Benjamín.

35:18 And it came to pass, as her soul was in departing, (for she died) that she called his name Benoni: but his father called him Benjamin.

35:19 Así murió Rachêl, y fué sepultada en el camino del Ephrata, la cual es Beth-lehem.

35:19 And Rachel died, and was buried in the way to Ephrath, which is Bethlehem.

35:20 Y puso Jacob un título sobre su sepultura: este es el título de la sepultura de Rachêl hasta hoy.

35:20 And Jacob set a pillar upon her grave: that is the pillar of Rachel's grave unto this day.

35:21 Y partió Israel, y tendió su tienda de la otra parte de Migdaleder.

35:21 And Israel journeyed, and spread his tent beyond the tower of Edar.

35:22 Y acaeció, morando Israel en aquella tierra, que fué Rubén y durmió con Bilha la concubina de su padre; lo cual llegó á entender Israel. Ahora bien, los hijos de Israel fueron doce:

35:22 And it came to pass, when Israel dwelt in that land, that Reuben went and lay with Bilhah his father's concubine: and Israel heard it. Now the sons of Jacob were twelve:

35:23 Los hijos de Lea: Rubén el primogénito de Jacob, y Simeón, y Leví, y Judá, é Issachâr, y Zabulón.

35:23 The sons of Leah; Reuben, Jacob's firstborn, and Simeon, and Levi, and Judah, and Issachar, and Zebulun:

35:24 Los hijos de Rachêl: José, y Benjamín.

35:24 The sons of Rachel; Joseph, and Benjamin:

35:25 Y los hijos de Bilha, sierva de Rachêl: Dan, y Nephtalí.

35:25 And the sons of Bilhah, Rachel's handmaid; Dan, and Naphtali:

35:26 Y los hijos de Zilpa, sierva de Lea: Gad, y Aser. Estos fueron los hijos de Jacob, que le nacieron en Padan-aram.

35:26 And the sons of Zilpah, Leah's handmaid: Gad, and Asher: these are the sons of Jacob, which were born to him in Padanaram.

35:27 Y vino Jacob á Isaac su padre á Mamre, á la ciudad de Arba, que es Hebrón, donde habitaron Abraham é Isaac.

35:27 And Jacob came unto Isaac his father unto Mamre, unto the city of Arbah, which is Hebron, where Abraham and Isaac sojourned.

35:28 Y fueron los días de Isaac ciento ochenta años.

35:28 And the days of Isaac were an hundred and fourscore years.

35:29 Y exhaló Isaac el espíritu, y murió, y fué recogido á sus pueblos, viejo y harto de días; y sepultáronlo Esaú y Jacob sus hijos.

35:29 And Isaac gave up the spirit, and died, and was gathered unto his people, being old and full of days: and his sons Esau and Jacob buried him.

36:1 Now these are the generations of Esau, who is Edom.

36:2 Esaú tomó sus mujeres de las hijas de Canaán: á Ada, hija de Elón Hetheo, y á Aholibama, hija de Ana, hija de Zibeón el Heveo;

36:2 Esau took his wives of the daughters of Canaan; Adah the daughter of Elon the Hittite, and Aholibamah the daughter of Anah the daughter of Zibeon the Hivite;

36:3 Y á Basemath, hija de Ismael, hermana de Navaioth.

36:3 And Bashemath Ishmael's daughter, sister of Nebajoth.

36:4 Y Ada parió á Esaú á Eliphaz; y Basemath parió á Reuel.

36:4 And Adah bare to Esau Eliphaz; and Bashemath bare Reuel;

36:5 Y Aholibama parió á Jeús, y á Jaalam, y á Cora: estos son los hijos de Esaú, que le nacieron en la tierra de Canaán.

36:5 And Aholibamah bare Jeush, and Jaalam, and Korah: these are the sons of Esau, which were born unto him in the land of Canaan.

36:6 And Esau took his wives, and his sons, and his daughters, and all the persons of his house, and his cattle, and all his beasts, and all his substance, which he had got in the land of Canaan; and went into the country from the face of his brother Jacob.

36:7 Porque la hacienda de ellos era grande, y no podían habitar juntos, ni la tierra de su peregrinación los podía sostener á causa de sus ganados.

36:7 For their riches were more than that they might dwell together; and the land wherein they were strangers could not bear them because of their cattle.

36:8 Y Esaú habitó en el monte de Seir: Esaú es Edom.

36:8 Thus dwelt Esau in mount Seir: Esau is Edom.

36:9 Estos son los linajes de Esaú, padre de Edom, en el monte de Seir.

36:9 And these are the generations of Esau the father of the Edomites in mount Seir:

36:10 Estos son los nombres de los hijos de Esaú: Eliphaz, hijo de Ada, mujer de Esaú; Reuel, hijo de Basemath, mujer de Esaú.

36:10 These are the names of Esau's sons; Eliphaz the son of Adah the wife of Esau, Reuel the son of Bashemath the wife of Esau.

36:11 Y los hijos de Eliphaz fueron Temán, Omar, Zepho, Gatam, y Cenaz.

36:11 And the sons of Eliphaz were Teman, Omar, Zepho, and Gatam, and Kenaz.

36:12 Y Timna fué concubina de Eliphaz, hijo de Esaú, la cual le parió á Amalec: estos son los hijos de Ada, mujer de Esaú.

36:12 And Timna was concubine to Eliphaz Esau's son; and she bare to Eliphaz Amalek: these were the sons of Adah Esau's wife.

36:13 Y los hijos de Reuel fueron Nahath, Zera, Samma, y Mizza: estos son los hijos de Basemath, mujer de Esaú.

36:13 And these are the sons of Reuel; Nahath, and Zerah, Shammah, and Mizzah: these were the sons of Bashemath Esau's wife.

36:14 Estos fueron los hijos de Aholibama, mujer de Esaú, hija de Ana, que fué hija de Zibeón: ella parió á Esaú á Jeús, Jaalam, y Cora.

36:14 And these were the sons of Aholibamah, the daughter of Anah the daughter of Zibeon, Esau's wife: and she bare to Esau Jeush, and Jaalam, and Korah.

36:15 Estos son los duques de los hijos de Esaú. Hijos de Eliphaz, primogénito de Esaú: el duque Temán, el duque Omar, el duque Zepho, el duque Cenaz,

36:15 These were dukes of the sons of Esau: the sons of Eliphaz the firstborn son of Esau; duke Teman, duke Omar, duke Zepho, duke Kenaz,

36:20 Y estos son los hijos de Seir Horeo, moradores de aquella tierra: Lotán, Sobal, Zibeón, Ana,

36:20 These are the sons of Seir the Horite, who inhabited the land; Lotan, and Shobal, and Zibeon, and Anah,

36:21 Disón, Ezer, y Disán: estos son los duques de los Horeos, hijos de Seir en la tierra de Edom.

36:21 And Dishon, and Ezer, and Dishan: these are the dukes of the Horites, the children of Seir in the land of Edom.

36:22 Los hijos de Lotán fueron Hori y Hemán; y Timna fué hermana de Lotán.

36:22 And the children of Lotan were Hori and Hemam; and Lotan's sister was Timna.

36:23 Y los hijos de Sobal fueron Alván, Manahath, Ebal, Sepho, y Onán.

36:23 And the children of Shobal were these; Alvan, and Manahath, and Ebal, Shepho, and Onam.

36:24 Y los hijos de Zibeón fueron Aja, y Ana. Este Ana es el que descubrió los mulos en el desierto, cuando apacentaba los asnos de Zibeón su padre.

36:24 And these are the children of Zibeon; both Ajah, and Anah: this was that Anah that found the mules in the wilderness, as he fed the asses of Zibeon his father.

36:25 And the children of Anah were these; Dishon, and Aholibamah the daughter of Anah.

36:40 And these are the names of the dukes that came of Esau, according to their families, after their places, by their names; duke Timnah, duke Alvah, duke Jetheth,

37:1 Y HABITO Jacob en la tierra donde peregrinó su padre, en la tierra de Canaán.

37:1 And Jacob dwelt in the land wherein his father was a stranger, in the land of Canaan.

37:2 Estas fueron las generaciones de Jacob. José, siendo de edad de diez y siete años apacentaba las ovejas con sus hermanos; y el joven estaba con los hijos de Bilha, y con los hijos de Zilpa, mujeres de su padre: y noticiaba José á su padre la mala fama de ellos.

37:2 These are the generations of Jacob. Joseph, being seventeen years old, was feeding the flock with his brethren; and the lad was with the sons of Bilhah, and with the sons of Zilpah, his father's wives: and Joseph brought unto his father their evil report.

37:3 Y amaba Israel á José más que á todos sus hijos, porque le había tenido en su vejez: y le hizo una ropa de diversos colores.

37:3 Now Israel loved Joseph more than all his children, because he was the son of his old age: and he made him a coat of many colours.

37:4 Y viendo sus hermanos que su padre lo amaba más que á todos sus hermanos, aborrecíanle, y no le podían hablar pacíficamente.

37:4 And when his brethren saw that their father loved him more than all his brethren, they hated him, and could not speak peaceably unto him.

37:5 Y soñó José un sueño y contólo á sus hermanos; y ellos vinieron á aborrecerle más todavía.

37:5 And Joseph dreamed a dream, and he told it his brethren: and they hated him yet the more.

37:6 Y él les dijo: Oíd ahora este sueño que he soñado:

37:6 And he said unto them, Hear, I pray you, this dream which I have dreamed:

37:7 He aquí que atábamos manojos en medio del campo, y he aquí que mi manojo se levantaba, y estaba derecho, y que vuestros manojos estaban alrededor, y se inclinaban al mío.

37:7 For, behold, we were binding sheaves in the field, and, lo, my sheaf arose, and also stood upright; and, behold, your sheaves stood round about, and made reverence to my sheaf.

37:8 Y respondiéronle sus hermanos: ¿Has de reinar tú sobre nosotros, ó te has de enseñorear sobre nosotros? Y le aborrecieron aún más á causa de sus sueños y de sus palabras.

37:8 And his brethren said to him, Shall you indeed reign over us? or shall you indeed have dominion over us? And they hated him yet the more for his dreams, and for his words.

37:9 Y soñó aún otro sueño, y contólo á sus hermanos, diciendo: He aquí que he soñado otro sueño, y he aquí que el sol y la luna y once estrellas se inclinaban á mí.

37:9 And he dreamed yet another dream, and told it his brethren, and said, Behold, I have dreamed a dream more; and, behold, the sun and the moon and the eleven stars made reverence to me.

37:10 Y contólo á su padre y á sus hermanos: y su padre le reprendió, y díjole: ¿Qué sueño es este que soñaste? ¿Hemos de venir yo y tu madre, y tus hermanos, á inclinarnos á ti á tierra?

37:10 And he told it to his father, and to his brethren: and his father rebuked him, and said unto him, What is this dream that you have dreamed? Shall I and your mother and your brethren indeed come to bow down ourselves to you to the earth?

37:11 Y sus hermanos le tenían envidia, mas su padre paraba la consideración en ello.

37:11 And his brethren envied him; but his father observed the saying.

37:12 Y fueron sus hermanos á apacentar las ovejas de su padre en Sichêm.

37:12 And his brethren went to feed their father's flock in Shechem.

37:13 Y dijo Israel á José: Tus hermanos apacientan las ovejas en Sichêm: ven, y te enviaré á ellos. Y él respondió: Heme aquí.

37:13 And Israel said unto Joseph, Do not your brethren feed the flock in Shechem? come, and I will send you unto them. And he said to him, Here am I.

37:14 Y él le dijo: Ve ahora, mira cómo están tus hermanos y cómo están las ovejas, y tráeme la respuesta. Y enviólo del valle de Hebrón, y llegó á Sichêm.

37:14 And he said to him, Go, I pray you, see whether it be well with your brethren, and well with the flocks; and bring me word again. So he sent him out of the vale of Hebron, and he came to Shechem.

37:15 Y hallólo un hombre, andando él perdido por el campo, y preguntóle aquel hombre, diciendo: ¿Qué buscas?

37:15 And a certain man found him, and, behold, he was wandering in the field: and the man asked him, saying, What seek you?

37:16 Y él respondió: Busco á mis hermanos: ruégote que me muestres dónde pastan.

37:16 And he said, I seek my brethren: tell me, I pray you, where they feed their flocks.

37:17 Y aquel hombre respondió: Ya se han ido de aquí; yo les oí decir: Vamos á Dothán. Entonces José fué tras de sus hermanos, y hallólos en Dothán.

37:17 And the man said, They are departed behind; for I heard them say, Let us go to Dothan. And Joseph went after his brethren, and found them in Dothan.

37:18 Y como ellos lo vieron de lejos, antes que cerca de ellos llegara, proyectaron contra él para matarle.

37:18 And when they saw him far off, even before he came near unto them, they conspired against him to slay him.

37:19 Y dijeron el uno al otro: He aquí viene el soñador;

37:19 And they said one to another, Behold, this dreamer comes.

37:20 Ahora pues, venid, y matémoslo y echémosle en una cisterna, y diremos: Alguna mala bestia le devoró: y veremos qué serán sus sueños.

37:20 Come now therefore, and let us slay him, and cast him into some pit, and we will say, Some evil beast has devoured him: and we shall see what will become of his dreams.

37:21 Y como Rubén oyó esto, librólo de sus manos y dijo: No lo matemos.

37:21 And Reuben heard it, and he delivered him out of their hands; and said, Let us not kill him.

37:22 Y díjoles Rubén: No derraméis sangre; echadlo en esta cisterna que está en el desierto, y no pongáis mano en él; por librarlo así de sus manos, para hacerlo volver á su padre.

37:22 And Reuben said unto them, Shed no blood, but cast him into this pit that is in the wilderness, and lay no hand upon him; that he might rid him out of their hands, to deliver him to his father again.

37:23 Y sucedió que, cuando llegó José á sus hermanos, ellos hicieron desnudar á José su ropa, la ropa de colores que tenía sobre sí;

37:23 And it came to pass, when Joseph was come unto his brethren, that they stripped Joseph out of his coat, his coat of many colours that was on him;

37:24 Y tomáronlo, y echáronle en la cisterna; mas la cisterna estaba vacía, no había en ella agua.

37:24 And they took him, and cast him into a pit: and the pit was empty, there was no water in it.

37:25 Y sentáronse á comer pan: y alzando los ojos miraron, y he aquí una compañía de Ismaelitas que venía de Galaad, y sus camellos traían aromas y bálsamo y mirra, é iban á llevarlo á Egipto.

37:25 And they sat down to eat bread: and they lifted up their eyes and looked, and, behold, a company of Ishmeelites came from Gilead with their camels bearing spices and balm and myrrh, going to carry it down to Egypt.

37:26 Entonces Judá dijo á sus hermanos: ¿Qué provecho el que matemos á nuestro hermano y encubramos su muerte?

37:26 And Judah said unto his brethren, What profit is it if we slay our brother, and conceal his blood?

37:27 Venid, y vendámosle á los Ismaelitas, y no sea nuestra mano sobre él; que nuestro hermano es nuestra carne. Y sus hermanos acordaron con él.

37:27 Come, and let us sell him to the Ishmeelites, and let not our hand be upon him; for he is our brother and our flesh. And his brethren were content.

37:28 Y como pasaban los Midianitas mercaderes, sacaron ellos á José de la cisterna, y trajéronle arriba, y le vendieron á los Ismaelitas por veinte piezas de plata. Y llevaron á José á Egipto.

37:28 Then there passed by Midianites merchantmen; and they drew and lifted up Joseph out of the pit, and sold Joseph to the Ishmeelites for twenty pieces of silver: and they brought Joseph into Egypt.

37:29 Y Rubén volvió á la cisterna, y no halló á José dentro, y rasgó sus vestidos.

37:29 And Reuben returned unto the pit; and, behold, Joseph was not in the pit; and he rent his clothes.

37:30 Y tornó á sus hermanos y dijo: El mozo no parece; y yo, ¿adónde iré yo?

37:30 And he returned unto his brethren, and said, The child is not; and I, where shall I go?

37:31 Entonces tomaron ellos la ropa de José, y degollaron un cabrito de las cabras, y tiñeron la ropa con la sangre;

37:31 And they took Joseph's coat, and killed a kid of the goats, and dipped the coat in the blood;

37:32 Y enviaron la ropa de colores y trajéronla á su padre, y dijeron: Esta hemos hallado, reconoce ahora si es ó no la ropa de tu hijo.

37:32 And they sent the coat of many colours, and they brought it to their father; and said, This have we found: know now whether it be your son's coat or no.

37:33 Y él la conoció, y dijo: La ropa de mi hijo es; alguna mala bestia le devoró; José ha sido despedazado.

37:33 And he knew it, and said, It is my son's coat; an evil beast has devoured him; Joseph is without doubt rent in pieces.

37:34 Entonces Jacob rasgó sus vestidos, y puso saco sobre sus lomos, y enlutóse por su hijo muchos días.

37:34 And Jacob rent his clothes, and put sackcloth upon his loins, and mourned for his son many days.

37:35 Y levantáronse todos sus hijos y todas sus hijas para consolarlo; mas él no quiso tomar consolación, y dijo: Porque yo tengo de descender á mi hijo enlutado hasta la sepultura. Y llorólo su padre.

37:35 And all his sons and all his daughters rose up to comfort him; but he refused to be comforted; and he said, For I will go down into the grave unto my son mourning. Thus his father wept for him.

37:36 Y los Midianitas lo vendieron en Egipto á Potiphar, eunuco de Faraón, capitán de los de la guardia.

37:36 And the Midianites sold him into Egypt unto Potiphar, an officer of Pharaoh's, and captain of the guard.

38:1 Y ACONTECIO en aquel tiempo, que Judá descendió de con sus hermanos, y fuése á un varón Adullamita, que se llamaba Hira.

38:1 And it came to pass at that time, that Judah went down from his brethren, and turned in to a certain Adullamite, whose name was Hirah.

38:2 Y vió allí Judá la hija de un hombre Cananeo, el cual se llamaba Súa; y tomóla, y entró á ella:

38:2 And Judah saw there a daughter of a certain Canaanite, whose name was Shuah; and he took her, and went in unto her.

38:3 La cual concibió, y parió un hijo; y llamó su nombre Er.

38:3 And she conceived, and bare a son; and he called his name Er.

38:4 Y concibió otra vez, y parió un hijo, y llamó su nombre Onán.

38:4 And she conceived again, and bare a son; and she called his name Onan.

38:5 Y volvió á concebir, y parió un hijo, y llamó su nombre Sela. Y estaba en Chezib cuando lo parió.

38:5 And she yet again conceived, and bare a son; and called his name Shelah: and he was at Chezib, when she bare him.

38:6 Y Judá tomó mujer para su primogénito Er, la cual se llamaba Thamar.

38:6 And Judah took a wife for Er his firstborn, whose name was Tamar.

38:7 Y Er, el primogénito de Judá, fué malo á los ojos de Jehová, y quitóle Jehová la vida.

38:7 And Er, Judah's firstborn, was wicked in the sight of the LORD; and the LORD slew him.

38:8 Entonces Judá dijo á Onán: Entra á la mujer de tu hermano, y despósate con ella, y suscita simiente á tu hermano.

38:8 And Judah said unto Onan, Go in unto your brother's wife, and marry her, and raise up seed to your brother.

38:9 Y sabiendo Onán que la simiente no había de ser suya, sucedía que cuando entraba á la mujer de su hermano vertía en tierra, por no dar simiente á su hermano.

38:9 And Onan knew that the seed should not be his; and it came to pass, when he went in unto his brother's wife, that he spilled it on the ground, lest that he should give seed to his brother.

38:10 Y desagradó en ojos de Jehová lo que hacía, y también quitó á él la vida.

38:10 And the thing which he did displeased the LORD: wherefore he slew him also.

38:11 Y Judá dijo á Thamar su nuera: Estáte viuda en casa de tu padre, hasta que crezca Sela mi hijo; porque dijo: Que quizá no muera él también como sus hermanos. Y fuése Thamar, y estúvose en casa de su padre.

38:11 Then said Judah to Tamar his daughter in law, Remain a widow at your father's house, till Shelah my son be grown: for he said, Lest possibly he die also, as his brethren did. And Tamar went and dwelt in her father's house.

38:12 Y pasaron muchos días, y murió la hija de Súa, mujer de Judá; y Judá se consoló, y subía á los trasquiladores de sus ovejas á Timnath, él y su amigo Hira el Adullamita.

38:12 And in process of time the daughter of Shuah Judah's wife died; and Judah was comforted, and went up unto his sheepshearers to Timnath, he and his friend Hirah the Adullamite.

38:13 Y fué dado aviso á Thamar, diciendo: He aquí tu suegro sube á Timnath á trasquilar sus ovejas.

38:13 And it was told Tamar, saying, Behold your father in law goes up to Timnath to shear his sheep.

38:14 Entonces quitó ella de sobre sí los vestidos de su viudez, y cubrióse con un velo, y arrebozóse, y se puso á la puerta de las aguas que están junto al camino de Timnath; porque veía que había crecido Sela, y ella no era dada á él por mujer.

38:14 And she put her widow's garments off from her, and covered her with a vail, and wrapped herself, and sat in an open place, which is by the way to Timnath; for she saw that Shelah was grown, and she was not given unto him to wife.

38:15 Y vióla Judá, y túvola por ramera, porque había ella cubierto su rostro.

38:15 When Judah saw her, he thought her to be an harlot; because she had covered her face.

38:16 Y apartóse del camino hacia ella, y díjole: Ea, pues, ahora entraré á ti; porque no sabía que era su nuera; y ella dijo: ¿Qué me has de dar, si entrares á mí?

38:16 And he turned unto her by the way, and said, Go to, I pray you, let me come in unto you; (for he knew not that she was his daughter in law.) And she said, What will you give me, that you may come in unto me?

38:17 El respondió: Yo te enviaré del ganado un cabrito de las cabras. Y ella dijo: Hasme de dar prenda hasta que lo envíes.

38:17 And he said, I will send you a kid from the flock. And she said, Will you give me a pledge, till you send it?

38:18 Entonces él dijo: ¿Qué prenda te daré? Ella respondió: Tu anillo, y tu manto, y tu bordón que tienes en tu mano. Y él se los dió, y entró á ella, la cual concibió de él.

38:18 And he said, What pledge shall I give you? And she said, Your signet, and your bracelets, and your staff that is in yours hand. And he gave it her, and came in unto her, and she conceived by him.

38:19 Y levantóse, y fuése: y quitóse el velo de sobre sí, y vistióse las ropas de su viudez.

38:19 And she arose, and went away, and laid by her vail from her, and put on the garments of her widowhood.

38:20 Y Judá envió el cabrito de las cabras por mano de su amigo el Adullamita, para que tomase la prenda de mano de la mujer; mas no la halló.

38:20 And Judah sent the kid by the hand of his friend the Adullamite, to receive his pledge from the woman's hand: but he found her not.

38:21 Y preguntó á los hombres de aquel lugar, diciendo: ¿Dónde está la ramera de las aguas junto al camino? Y ellos le dijeron: No ha estado aquí ramera.

38:21 Then he asked the men of that place, saying, Where is the harlot, that was openly by the way side? And they said, There was no harlot in this place.

38:22 Entonces él se volvió á Judá, y dijo: No la he hallado; y también los hombres del lugar dijeron: Aquí no ha estado ramera.

38:22 And he returned to Judah, and said, I cannot find her; and also the men of the place said, that there was no harlot in this place.

38:23 Y Judá dijo: Tómeselo para sí, porque no seamos menospreciados: he aquí yo he enviado este cabrito, y tú no la hallaste.

38:23 And Judah said, Let her take it to her, lest we be shamed: behold, I sent this kid, and you have not found her.

38:24 Y acaeció que al cabo de unos tres meses fué dado aviso á Judá, diciendo: Thamar tu nuera ha fornicado, y aun cierto está preñada de las fornicaciones. Y Judá dijo: Sacadla, y sea quemada.

38:24 And it came to pass about three months after, that it was told Judah, saying, Tamar your daughter in law has played the harlot; and also, behold, she is with child by whoredom. And Judah said, Bring her forth, and let her be burnt.

38:25 Y ella cuando la sacaban, envió á decir á su suegro: Del varón cuyas son estas cosas, estoy preñada: y dijo más: Mira ahora cuyas son estas cosas, el anillo, y el manto, y el bordón.

38:25 When she was brought forth, she sent to her father in law, saying, By the man, whose these are, am I with child: and she said, Discern, I pray you, whose are these, the signet, and bracelets, and staff.

38:26 Entonces Judá los reconoció, y dijo: Más justa es que yo, por cuanto no la he dado á Sela mi hijo. Y nunca más la conoció.

38:26 And Judah acknowledged them, and said, She has been more righteous than I; because that I gave her not to Shelah my son. And he had sexual contact with her again no more.

38:27 Y aconteció que al tiempo del parir, he aquí había dos en su vientre.

38:27 And it came to pass in the time of her travail, that, behold, twins were in her womb.

38:28 Y sucedió, cuando paría, que sacó la mano el uno, y la partera tomó y ató á su mano un hilo de grana, diciendo: Este salió primero.

38:28 And it came to pass, when she travailed, that the one put out his hand: and the midwife took and bound upon his hand a scarlet thread, saying, This came out first.

38:29 Empero fué que tornando él á meter la mano, he aquí su hermano salió; y ella dijo: ¿Por qué has hecho sobre ti rotura? Y llamó su nombre Phares.

38:29 And it came to pass, as he drew back his hand, that, behold, his brother came out: and she said, How have you broken forth? this breach be upon you: therefore his name was called Pharez.

38:30 Y después salió su hermano, el que tenía en su mano el hilo de grana, y llamó su nombre Zara.

38:30 And afterward came out his brother, that had the scarlet thread upon his hand: and his name was called Zarah.
