1:1 ダリヨス王の二年六月、その月の一日に、主の言葉が預言者ハガイによって、シャルテルの子、ユダの総督ゼルバベル、およびヨザダクの子、大祭司ヨシュアに臨んだ、
1:1 In the second year of Darius the king, in the sixth month, in the first day of the month, came the word of the LORD by Haggai the prophet unto Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and to Joshua the son of Josedech, the high priest, saying,
1:2 「万軍の主はこう言われる、この民は、主の家を再び建てる時は、まだこないと言っている」。
1:2 Thus speaks the LORD of hosts, saying, This people say, The time is not come, the time that the LORD's house should be built.
1:3 そこで、主の言葉はまた預言者ハガイに臨んだ、
1:3 Then came the word of the LORD by Haggai the prophet, saying,
1:4 「主の家はこのように荒れはてているのに、あなたがたは、みずから板で張った家に住んでいる時であろうか。
1:4 Is it time for you, O all of you, to dwell in your covered over houses, and this house lie waste?
1:5 それで今、万軍の主はこう言われる、あなたがたは自分のなすべきことをよく考えるがよい。
1:5 Now therefore thus says the LORD of hosts; Consider your ways.
1:6 あなたがたは多くまいても、取入れは少なく、食べても、飽きることはない。飲んでも、満たされない。着ても、暖まらない。賃銀を得ても、これを破れた袋に入れているようなものである。
1:6 All of you have sown much, and bring in little; all of you eat, but all of you have not enough; all of you drink, but all of you are not filled with drink; all of you clothe you, but there is none warm; and he that earns wages earns wages to put it into a bag with holes.
1:7 万軍の主はこう言われる、あなたがたは、自分のなすべきことを考えるがよい。
1:7 Thus says the LORD of hosts; Consider your ways.
1:8 山に登り、木を持ってきて主の家を建てよ。そうすればわたしはこれを喜び、かつ栄光のうちに現れると主は言われる。
1:8 Go up to the mountain, and bring wood, and build the house; and I will take pleasure in it, and I will be glorified, says the LORD.
1:9 あなたがたは多くを望んだが、見よ、それは少なかった。あなたがたが家に持ってきたとき、わたしはそれを吹き払った。これは何ゆえであるかと、万軍の主は言われる。これはわたしの家が荒れはてているのに、あなたがたは、おのおの自分の家の事だけに、忙しくしいる。
1:9 All of you looked for much, and, lo it came to little; and when all of you brought it home, I did blow upon it. Why? says the LORD of hosts. Because of mine house that is waste, and all of you run every man unto his own house.
1:10 それゆえ、あなたがたの上の天は露をさし止め、地はその産物をさし止めた。
1:10 Therefore the heaven over you is stayed from dew, and the earth is stayed from her fruit.
1:11 また、わたしは地にも、山にも、穀物にも、新しい酒にも、油にも、地に生じるものにも、人間にも、家畜にも、手で作るすべての作物にも、ひでりを呼び寄せた」。
1:11 And I called for a drought upon the land, and upon the mountains, and upon the corn, and upon the new wine, and upon the oil, and upon that which the ground brings forth, and upon men, and upon cattle, and upon all the labour of the hands.
1:12 そこで、シャルテルの子ゼルバベルとヨザダクの子、大祭司ヨシュアおよび残りのすべての民は、その神、主の声と、その神、主のつかわされた預言者ハガイの言葉とに聞きしたがい、そして民は、主の前に恐れかしこんだ。
1:12 Then Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, and Joshua the son of Josedech, the high priest, with all the remnant of the people, obeyed the voice of the LORD their God, and the words of Haggai the prophet, as the LORD their God had sent him, and the people did fear before the LORD.
1:13 時に、主の使者ハガイは主の命令により、民に告げて言った、「わたしはあなたがたと共にいると主は言われる」。
1:13 Then spoke Haggai the LORD's messenger in the LORD's message unto the people, saying, I am with you, says the LORD.
1:14 そして主は、シャルテルの子、ユダの総督ゼルバベルの心と、ヨザダクの子、大祭司ヨシュアの心、および残りのすべての民の心を、振り動かされたので、彼らは来て、その神、万軍の主の家の作業にとりかかった。
1:14 And the LORD stirred up the spirit of Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and the spirit of Joshua the son of Josedech, the high priest, and the spirit of all the remnant of the people; and they came and did work in the house of the LORD of hosts, their God,
1:15 これは六月二十四日のことであった。
1:15 In the four and twentieth day of the sixth month, in the second year of Darius the king.
2:1 ダリヨス王の二年の七月二十一日に、主の言葉が預言者ハガイに臨んだ、
2:1 In the seventh month, in the one and twentieth day of the month, came the word of the LORD by the prophet Haggai, saying,
2:2 「シャルテルの子、ユダの総督ゼルバベルと、ヨザダクの子、大祭司ヨシュア、および残りのすべての民に告げて言え、
2:2 Speak now to Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and to Joshua the son of Josedech, the high priest, and to the residue of the people, saying,
2:3 『あなたがた残りの者のうち、以前の栄光に輝く主の家を見た者はだれか。あなたがたは今、この状態をどう思うか。これはあなたがたの目には、無にひとしいではないか。
2:3 Who is left among you that saw this house in her first glory? and how do all of you see it now? is it not in your eyes in comparison of it as nothing?
2:4 主は言われる、ゼルバベルよ、勇気を出せ。ヨザダクの子、大祭司ヨシュアよ、勇気を出せ。主は言われる。この地のすべての民よ、勇気を出せ。働け。わたしはあなたがたと共にいると、万軍の主は言われる。
2:4 Yet now be strong, O Zerubbabel, says the LORD; and be strong, O Joshua, son of Josedech, the high priest; and be strong, all you people of the land, says the LORD, and work: for I am with you, says the LORD of hosts:
2:5 これはあなたがたがエジプトから出た時、わたしがあなたがたに、約束した言葉である。わたしの霊が、あなたがたのうちに宿っている。恐れるな。
2:5 According to the word that I covenanted with you when all of you came out of Egypt, so my spirit remains among you: fear all of you not.
2:6 万軍の主はこう言われる、しばらくして、いま一度、わたしは天と、地と、海と、かわいた地とを震う。
2:6 For thus says the LORD of hosts; Yet once, it is a little while, and I will shake the heavens, and the earth, and the sea, and the dry land;
2:7 わたしはまた万国民を震う。万国民の財宝は、はいって来て、わたしは栄光をこの家に満たすと、万軍の主は言われる。
2:7 And I will shake all nations, and the desire of all nations shall come: and I will fill this house with glory, says the LORD of hosts.
2:8 銀はわたしのもの、金もわたしのものであると、万軍の主は言われる。
2:8 The silver is mine, and the gold is mine, says the LORD of hosts.
2:9 主の家の後の栄光は、前の栄光よりも大きいと、万軍の主は言われる。わたしはこの所に繁栄を与えると、万軍の主は言われる』」。
2:9 The glory of this latter house shall be greater than of the former, says the LORD of hosts: and in this place will I give peace, says the LORD of hosts.
2:10 ダリヨスの二年の九月二十四日に、主の言葉が預言者ハガイに臨んだ、
2:10 In the four and twentieth day of the ninth month, in the second year of Darius, came the word of the LORD by Haggai the prophet, saying,
2:11 「万軍の主はこう言われる、律法について祭司たちに尋ねて言え、
2:11 Thus says the LORD of hosts; Ask now the priests concerning the law, saying,
2:12 『人がその衣服のすそで聖なる肉を運んで行き、そのすそがもし、パンまたはあつもの、または酒、または油、またはどんな食物にでもさわったなら、それらは聖なるものとなるか』と」。祭司たちは「ならない」と答えた。
2:12 If one bear holy flesh in the skirt of his garment, and with his skirt do touch bread, or pottage, or wine, or oil, or any food, shall it be holy? And the priests answered and said, No.
2:13 ハガイはまた言った、「もし、死体によって汚れた人が、これらの一つにさわったなら、それは汚れるか」。祭司たちは「汚れる」と答えた。
2:13 Then said Haggai, If one that is unclean by a dead body touch any of these, shall it be unclean? And the priests answered and said, It shall be unclean.
2:14 そこで、ハガイは言った、「主は言われる、この民も、この国も、わたしの前では、そのようである。またその手のわざもそのようである。その所で彼らのささげるものは、汚れたものである。
2:14 Then answered Haggai, and said, So is this people, and so is this nation before me, says the LORD; and so is every work of their hands; and that which they offer there is unclean.
2:15 今、あなたがたはこの日から、後の事を思うがよい。主の宮で石の上に石が積まれなかった前、あなたがたは、どんなであったか。
2:15 And now, I pray you, consider from this day and upward, from before a stone was laid upon a stone in the temple of the LORD:
2:16 あの時には、二十枡の麦の積まれる所に行ったが、わずかに十枡を得、また五十桶をくもうとして、酒ぶねに行ったが、二十桶を得たのみであった。
2:16 Since those days were, when one came to an heap of twenty measures, there were but ten: when one came to the pressfat in order to draw out fifty vessels out of the press, there were but twenty.
2:17 わたしは立ち枯れと、腐り穂と、ひょうをもってあなたがたと、あなたがたのすべての手のわざを撃った。しかし、あなたがたは、わたしに帰らなかったと主は言われる。
2:17 I stroke you with blasting and with mildew and with hail in all the labours of your hands; yet all of you turned not to me, says the LORD.
2:18 あなたがたはこの日より後、すなわち、九月二十四日よりの事を思うがよい。また主の宮の基をすえた日から後の事を心にとめるがよい。
2:18 Consider now from this day and upward, from the four and twentieth day of the ninth month, even from the day that the foundation of the LORD's temple was laid, consider it.
2:19 種はなお、納屋にあるか。ぶどうの木、いちじくの木、ざくろの木、オリブの木もまだ実を結ばない。しかし、わたしはこの日から、あなたがたに恵みを与える」。
2:19 Is the seed yet in the barn? yea, as yet the vine, and the fig tree, and the pomegranate, and the olive tree, has not brought forth: from this day will I bless you.
2:20 この月の二十四日に、主の言葉がふたたびハガイに臨んだ、
2:20 And again the word of the LORD came unto Haggai in the four and twentieth day of the month, saying,
2:21 「ユダの総督ゼルバベルに告げて言え、わたしは天と地を震う。
2:21 Speak to Zerubbabel, governor of Judah, saying, I will shake the heavens and the earth;
2:22 わたしは国々の王位を倒し、異邦の国々の力を滅ぼし、また戦車、およびこれに乗る者を倒す。馬およびこれに乗る者は、たがいにその仲間のつるぎによって倒れる。
2:22 And I will overthrow the throne of kingdoms, and I will destroy the strength of the kingdoms of the heathen; and I will overthrow the chariots, and those that ride in them; and the horses and their riders shall come down, every one by the sword of his brother.
2:23 万軍の主は言われる、シャルテルの子、わがしもべゼルバベルよ、主は言われる、その日、わたしはあなたを立て、あなたを印章のようにする。わたしはあなたを選んだからであると、万軍の主は言われる」。
2:23 In that day, says the LORD of hosts, will I take you, O Zerubbabel, my servant, the son of Shealtiel, says the LORD, and will make you as a signet: for I have chosen you, says the LORD of hosts.
