11:1 さて、民は災難に会っている人のように、主の耳につぶやいた。主はこれを聞いて怒りを発せられ、主の火が彼らのうちに燃えあがって、宿営の端を焼いた。
11:1 And when the people complained, it displeased the LORD: and the LORD heard it; and his anger was kindled; and the fire of the LORD burnt among them, and consumed them that were in the uttermost parts of the camp.
11:2 そこで民はモーセにむかって叫んだ。モーセが主に祈ったので、その火はしずまった。
11:2 And the people cried unto Moses; and when Moses prayed unto the LORD, the fire was quenched.
11:3 主の火が彼らのうちに燃えあがったことによって、その所の名はタベラと呼ばれた。
11:3 And he called the name of the place Taberah: because the fire of the LORD burnt among them.
11:4 また彼らのうちにいた多くの寄り集まりびとは欲心を起し、イスラエルの人々もまた再び泣いて言った、「ああ、肉が食べたい。
11:4 And the mixt multitude that was among them fell a lusting: and the children of Israel also wept again, and said, Who shall give us flesh to eat?
11:5 われわれは思い起すが、エジプトでは、ただで、魚を食べた。きゅうりも、すいかも、にらも、たまねぎも、そして、にんにくも。
11:5 We remember the fish, which we did eat in Egypt freely; the cucumbers, and the melons, and the leeks, and the onions, and the garlick:
11:6 しかし、いま、われわれの精根は尽きた。われわれの目の前には、このマナのほか何もない」。
11:6 But now our soul is dried away: there is nothing at all, beside this manna, before our eyes.
11:7 マナは、こえんどろの実のようで、色はブドラクの色のようであった。
11:7 And the manna was as coriander seed, and the colour thereof as the colour of bdellium.
11:8 民は歩きまわって、これを集め、ひきうすでひき、または、うすでつき、かまで煮て、これをもちとした。その味は油菓子の味のようであった。
11:8 And the people went about, and gathered it, and ground it in mills, or beat it in a mortar, and baked it in pans, and made cakes of it: and the taste of it was as the taste of fresh oil.
11:9 夜、宿営の露がおりるとき、マナはそれと共に降った。
11:9 And when the dew fell upon the camp in the night, the manna fell upon it.
11:10 モーセは、民が家ごとに、おのおのその天幕の入口で泣くのを聞いた。そこで主は激しく怒られ、またモーセは不快に思った。
11:10 Then Moses heard the people weep throughout their families, every man in the door of his tent: and the anger of the LORD was kindled greatly; Moses also was displeased.
11:11 そして、モーセは主に言った、「あなたはなぜ、しもべに悪い仕打ちをされるのですか。どうしてわたしはあなたの前に恵みを得ないで、このすべての民の重荷を負わされるのですか。
11:11 And Moses said unto the LORD, Wherefore have you afflicted your servant? and wherefore have I not found favour in your sight, that you lay the burden of all this people upon me?
11:12 わたしがこのすべての民を、はらんだのですか。わたしがこれを生んだのですか。そうではないのに、あなたはなぜわたしに『養い親が乳児を抱くように、彼らをふところに抱いて、あなたが彼らの先祖たちに誓われた地に行け』と言われるのですか。
11:12 Have I conceived all this people? have I begotten them, that you should say unto me, Carry them in your bosom, as a nursing father bears the nursing infant, unto the land which you sware unto their fathers?
11:13 わたしはどこから肉を獲て、このすべての民に与えることができましょうか。彼らは泣いて、『肉を食べさせよ』とわたしに言っているのです。
11:13 Whence should I have flesh to give unto all this people? for they weep unto me, saying, Give us flesh, that we may eat.
11:14 わたしひとりでは、このすべての民を負うことができません。それはわたしには重過ぎます。
11:14 I am not able to bear all this people alone, because it is too heavy for me.
11:15 もしわたしがあなたの前に恵みを得ますならば、わたしにこのような仕打ちをされるよりは、むしろ、ひと思いに殺し、このうえ苦しみに会わせないでください」。
11:15 And if you deal thus with me, kill me, I pray you, instantly, if I have found favour in your sight; and let me not see my wretchedness.
11:16 主はモーセに言われた、「イスラエルの長老たちのうち、民の長老となり、つかさとなるべきことを、あなたが知っている者七十人をわたしのもとに集め、会見の幕屋に連れてきて、そこにあなたと共に立たせなさい。
11:16 And the LORD said unto Moses, Gather unto me seventy men of the elders of Israel, whom you know to be the elders of the people, and officers over them; and bring them unto the tabernacle of the congregation, that they may stand there with you.
11:17 わたしは下って、その所で、あなたと語り、またわたしはあなたの上にある霊を、彼らにも分け与えるであろう。彼らはあなたと共に、民の重荷を負い、あなたが、ただひとりで、それを負うことのないようにするであろう。
11:17 And I will come down and talk with you there: and I will take of the spirit which is upon you, and will put it upon them; and they shall bear the burden of the people with you, that you bear it not yourself alone.
11:18 あなたはまた民に言いなさい、『あなたがたは身を清めて、あすを待ちなさい。あなたがたは肉を食べることができるであろう。あなたがたが泣いて主の耳に、わたしたちは肉が食べたい。エジプトにいた時は良かったと言ったからである。それゆえ、主はあなたがたに肉を与えて食べさせられるであろう。
11:18 And say you unto the people, Sanctify yourselves against tomorrow, and all of you shall eat flesh: for all of you have wept in the ears of the LORD, saying, Who shall give us flesh to eat? for it was well with us in Egypt: therefore the LORD will give you flesh, and all of you shall eat.
11:19 あなたがたがそれを食べるのは、一日や二日や五日や十日や二十日ではなく、
11:19 All of you shall not eat one day, nor two days, nor five days, neither ten days, nor twenty days;
11:20 一か月に及び、ついにあなたがたの鼻から出るようになり、あなたがたは、それに飽き果てるであろう。それはあなたがたのうちにおられる主を軽んじて、その前に泣き、なぜ、わたしたちはエジプトから出てきたのだろうと言ったからである』」。
11:20 But even a whole month, until it come out at your nostrils, and it be loathsome unto you: because that all of you have despised the LORD which is among you, and have wept before him, saying, Why came we forth out of Egypt?
11:21 モーセは言った、「わたしと共におる民は徒歩の男子だけでも六十万です。ところがあなたは、『わたしは彼らに肉を与えて一か月のあいだ食べさせよう』と言われます。
11:21 And Moses said, The people, among whom I am, are six hundred thousand footmen; and you have said, I will give them flesh, that they may eat a whole month.
11:22 羊と牛の群れを彼らのためにほふって、彼らを飽きさせるというのですか。海のすべての魚を彼らのために集めて、彼らを飽きさせるというのですか」。
11:22 Shall the flocks and the herds be slain for them, to suffice them? or shall all the fish of the sea be gathered together for them, to suffice them?
11:23 主はモーセに言われた、「主の手は短かろうか。あなたは、いま、わたしの言葉の成るかどうかを見るであろう」。
11:23 And the LORD said unto Moses, Is the LORD's hand waxed short? you shall see now whether my word shall come to pass unto you or not.
11:24 この時モーセは出て、主の言葉を民に告げ、民の長老たち七十人を集めて、幕屋の周囲に立たせた。
11:24 And Moses went out, and told the people the words of the LORD, and gathered the seventy men of the elders of the people, and set them round about the tabernacle.
11:25 主は雲のうちにあって下り、モーセと語られ、モーセの上にある霊を、その七十人の長老たちにも分け与えられた。その霊が彼らの上にとどまった時、彼らは預言した。ただし、その後は重ねて預言しなかった。
11:25 And the LORD came down in a cloud, and spoke unto him, and took of the spirit that was upon him, and gave it unto the seventy elders: and it came to pass, that, when the spirit rested upon them, they prophesied, and did not cease.
11:26 その時ふたりの者が、宿営にとどまっていたが、ひとりの名はエルダデと言い、ひとりの名はメダデといった。彼らの上にも霊がとどまった。彼らは名をしるされた者であったが、幕屋に行かなかったので、宿営のうちで預言した。
11:26 But there remained two of the men in the camp, the name of the one was Eldad, and the name of the other Medad: and the spirit rested upon them; and they were of them that were written, but went not out unto the tabernacle: and they prophesied in the camp.
11:27 時にひとりの若者が走ってきて、モーセに告げて言った、「エルダデとメダデとが宿営のうちで預言しています」。
11:27 And there ran a young man, and told Moses, and said, Eldad and Medad do prophesy in the camp.
11:28 若い時からモーセの従者であったヌンの子ヨシュアは答えて言った、「わが主、モーセよ、彼らをさし止めてください」。
11:28 And Joshua the son of Nun, the servant of Moses, one of his young men, answered and said, My lord Moses, forbid them.
11:29 モーセは彼に言った、「あなたは、わたしのためを思って、ねたみを起しているのか。主の民がみな預言者となり、主がその霊を彼らに与えられることは、願わしいことだ」。
11:29 And Moses said unto him, Envy you for my sake? would God that all the LORD's people were prophets, and that the LORD would put his spirit upon them!
11:30 こうしてモーセはイスラエルの長老たちと共に、宿営に引きあげた。
11:30 And Moses got him into the camp, he and the elders of Israel.
11:31 さて、主のもとから風が起り、海の向こうから、うずらを運んできて、これを宿営の近くに落した。その落ちた範囲は、宿営の周囲で、こちら側も、おおよそ一日の行程、あちら側も、おおよそ一日の行程、地面から高さおおよそ二キュビトであった。
11:31 And there went forth a wind from the LORD, and brought quails from the sea, and let them fall by the camp, as it were a day's journey on this side, and as it were a day's journey on the other side, round about the camp, and as it were two cubits high upon the face of the earth.
11:32 そこで民は立ち上がってその日は終日、その夜は終夜、またその次の日も終日、うずらを集めたが、集める事の最も少ない者も、十ホメルほど集めた。彼らはみな、それを宿営の周囲に広げておいた。
11:32 And the people stood up all that day, and all that night, and all the next day, and they gathered the quails: he that gathered least gathered ten homers: and they spread them all abroad for themselves round about the camp.
11:33 その肉がなお、彼らの歯の間にあって食べつくさないうちに、主は民にむかって怒りを発し、主は非常に激しい疫病をもって民を撃たれた。
11:33 And while the flesh was yet between their teeth, before it was chewed, the wrath of the LORD was kindled against the people, and the LORD stroke the people with a very great plague.
11:34 これによって、その所の名はキブロテ・ハッタワと呼ばれた。欲心を起した民を、そこに埋めたからである。
11:34 And he called the name of that place Kibrothhattaavah: because there they buried the people that lusted.
11:35 キブロテ・ハッタワから、民はハゼロテに進み、ハゼロテにとどまった。
11:35 And the people journeyed from Kibrothhattaavah unto Hazeroth; and abode at Hazeroth.
12:1 モーセはクシの女をめとっていたが、そのクシの女をめとったゆえをもって、ミリアムとアロンはモーセを非難した。
12:1 And Miriam and Aaron spoke against Moses because of the Ethiopian woman whom he had married: for he had married an Ethiopian woman.
12:2 彼らは言った、「主はただモーセによって語られるのか。われわれによっても語られるのではないのか」。主はこれを聞かれた。
12:2 And they said, Has the LORD indeed spoken only by Moses? has he not spoken also by us? And the LORD heard it.
12:3 モーセはその人となり柔和なこと、地上のすべての人にまさっていた。
12:3 (Now the man Moses was very meek, above all the men which were upon the face of the earth.)
12:4 そこで、主は突然モーセとアロン、およびミリアムにむかって「あなたがた三人、会見の幕屋に出てきなさい」と言われたので、彼ら三人は出てきたが、
12:4 And the LORD spoke suddenly unto Moses, and unto Aaron, and unto Miriam, Come out all of you three unto the tabernacle of the congregation. And they three came out.
12:5 主は雲の柱のうちにあって下り、幕屋の入口に立って、アロンとミリアムを呼ばれた。彼らふたりが進み出ると、
12:5 And the LORD came down in the pillar of the cloud, and stood in the door of the tabernacle, and called Aaron and Miriam: and they both came forth.
12:6 彼らに言われた、「あなたがたは、いま、わたしの言葉を聞きなさい。あなたがたのうちに、もし、預言者があるならば、主なるわたしは幻をもって、これにわたしを知らせ、また夢をもって、これと語るであろう。
12:6 And he said, Hear now my words: If there be a prophet among you, I the LORD will make myself known unto him in a vision, and will speak unto him in a dream.
12:7 しかし、わたしのしもべモーセとは、そうではない。彼はわたしの全家に忠信なる者である。
12:7 My servant Moses is not so, who is faithful in all mine house.
12:8 彼とは、わたしは口ずから語り、明らかに言って、なぞを使わない。彼はまた主の形を見るのである。なぜ、あなたがたはわたしのしもべモーセを恐れず非難するのか」。
12:8 With him will I speak mouth to mouth, even apparently, and not in dark speeches; and the embodiment of the LORD shall he behold: wherefore then were all of you not afraid to speak against my servant Moses?
12:9 主は彼らにむかい怒りを発して去られた。
12:9 And the anger of the LORD was kindled against them; and he departed.
12:10 雲が幕屋の上を離れ去った時、ミリアムは、らい病となり、その身は雪のように白くなった。アロンがふり返ってミリアムを見ると、彼女はらい病になっていた。
12:10 And the cloud departed from off the tabernacle; and, behold, Miriam became leprous, white as snow: and Aaron looked upon Miriam, and, behold, she was leprous.
12:11 そこで、アロンはモーセに言った、「ああ、わが主よ、わたしたちは愚かなことをして罪を犯しました。どうぞ、その罰をわたしたちに受けさせないでください。
12:11 And Aaron said unto Moses, Alas, my lord, I plead to you, lay not the sin upon us, wherein we have done foolishly, and wherein we have sinned.
12:12 どうぞ彼女を母の胎から肉が半ば滅びうせて出る死人のようにしないでください」。
12:12 Let her not be as one dead, of whom the flesh is half consumed when he comes out of his mother's womb.
12:13 その時モーセは主に呼ばわって言った、「ああ、神よ、どうぞ彼女をいやしてください」。
12:13 And Moses cried unto the LORD, saying, Heal her now, O God, I plead to you.
12:14 主はモーセに言われた、「彼女の父が彼女の顔につばきしてさえ、彼女は七日のあいだ、恥じて身を隠すではないか。彼女を七日のあいだ、宿営の外で閉じこめておかなければならない。その後、連れもどしてもよい」。
12:14 And the LORD said unto Moses, If her father had but spit in her face, should she not be ashamed seven days? let her be shut out from the camp seven days, and after that let her be received in again.
12:15 そこでミリアムは七日のあいだ、宿営の外で閉じこめられた。民はミリアムが連れもどされるまでは、道に進まなかった。
12:15 And Miriam was shut out from the camp seven days: and the people journeyed not till Miriam was brought in again.
12:16 その後、民はハゼロテを立って進み、パランの荒野に宿営した。
12:16 And afterward the people removed from Hazeroth, and pitched in the wilderness of Paran.
13:1 主はモーセに言われた、
13:1 And the LORD spoke unto Moses, saying,
13:2 「人をつかわして、わたしがイスラエルの人々に与えるカナンの地を探らせなさい。すなわち、その父祖の部族ごとに、すべて彼らのうちのつかさたる者ひとりずつをつかわしなさい」。
13:2 Send you men, that they may search the land of Canaan, which I give unto the children of Israel: of every tribe of their fathers shall all of you send a man, every one a ruler among them.
13:3 モーセは主の命にしたがって、パランの荒野から彼らをつかわした。その人々はみなイスラエルの人々のかしらたちであった。
13:3 And Moses by the commandment of the LORD sent them from the wilderness of Paran: all those men were heads of the children of Israel.
13:4 彼らの名は次のとおりである。ルベンの部族ではザックルの子シャンマ、
13:4 And these were their names: of the tribe of Reuben, Shammua the son of Zaccur.
13:5 シメオンの部族ではホリの子シャパテ、
13:5 Of the tribe of Simeon, Shaphat the son of Hori.
13:6 ユダの部族ではエフンネの子カレブ、
13:6 Of the tribe of Judah, Caleb the son of Jephunneh.
13:7 イッサカルの部族ではヨセフの子イガル、
13:7 Of the tribe of Issachar, Igal the son of Joseph.
13:8 エフライムの部族ではヌンの子ホセア、
13:8 Of the tribe of Ephraim, Oshea the son of Nun.
13:9 ベニヤミンの部族ではラフの子パルテ、
13:9 Of the tribe of Benjamin, Palti the son of Raphu.
13:10 ゼブルンの部族ではソデの子ガデエル、
13:10 Of the tribe of Zebulun, Gaddiel the son of Sodi.
13:11 ヨセフの部族すなわち、マナセの部族ではスシの子ガデ、
13:11 Of the tribe of Joseph, namely, of the tribe of Manasseh, Gaddi the son of Susi.
13:12 ダンの部族ではゲマリの子アンミエル、
13:12 Of the tribe of Dan, Ammiel the son of Gemalli.
13:13 アセルの部族ではミカエルの子セトル、
13:13 Of the tribe of Asher, Sethur the son of Michael.
13:14 ナフタリの部族ではワフシの子ナヘビ、
13:14 Of the tribe of Naphtali, Nahbi the son of Vophsi.
13:15 ガドの部族ではマキの子ギウエル。
13:15 Of the tribe of Gad, Geuel the son of Machi.
13:16 以上はモーセがその地を探らせるためにつかわした人々の名である。そしてモーセはヌンの子ホセアをヨシュアと名づけた。
13:16 These are the names of the men which Moses sent to spy out the land. And Moses called Oshea the son of Nun Jehoshua.
13:17 モーセは彼らをつかわし、カナンの地を探らせようとして、これに言った、「あなたがたはネゲブに行って、山に登り、
13:17 And Moses sent them to spy out the land of Canaan, and said unto them, Get you up this way southward, and go up into the mountain:
13:18 その地の様子を見、そこに住む民は、強いか弱いか、少ないか多いか、
13:18 And see the land, what it is, and the people that dwells therein, whether they be strong or weak, few or many;
13:19 また彼らの住んでいる地は、良いか悪いか。人々の住んでいる町々は、天幕か、城壁のある町か、
13:19 And what the land is that they dwell in, whether it be good or bad; and what cities they be that they dwell in, whether in tents, or in strong holds;
13:20 その地は、肥えているか、やせているか、そこには、木があるかないかを見なさい。あなたがたは、勇んで行って、その地のくだものを取ってきなさい」。時は、ぶどうの熟し始める季節であった。
13:20 And what the land is, whether it be fat or lean, whether there be wood therein, or not. And be all of you of good courage, and bring of the fruit of the land. Now the time was the time of the first-fruits grapes.
13:21 そこで、彼らはのぼっていって、その地をチンの荒野からハマテの入口に近いレホブまで探った。
13:21 So they went up, and searched the land from the wilderness of Zin unto Rehob, as men come to Hamath.
13:22 彼らはネゲブにのぼって、ヘブロンまで行った。そこにはアナクの子孫であるアヒマン、セシャイ、およびタルマイがいた。ヘブロンはエジプトのゾアンよりも七年前に建てられたものである。
13:22 And they ascended by the south, and came unto Hebron; where Ahiman, Sheshai, and Talmai, the children of Anak, were. (Now Hebron was built seven years before Zoan in Egypt.)
13:23 ついに彼らはエシコルの谷に行って、そこで一ふさのぶどうの枝を切り取り、これを棒をもって、ふたりでかつぎ、また、ざくろといちじくをも取った。
13:23 And they came unto the brook of Eshcol, and cut down from thence a branch with one cluster of grapes, and they bare it between two upon a staff; and they brought of the pomegranates, and of the figs.
13:24 イスラエルの人々が、そこで切り取ったぶどうの一ふさにちなんで、その所はエシコルの谷と呼ばれた。
13:24 The place was called the brook Eshcol, because of the cluster of grapes which the children of Israel cut down from thence.
13:25 四十日の後、彼らはその地を探り終って帰ってきた。
13:25 And they returned from searching of the land after forty days.
13:26 そして、パランの荒野にあるカデシにいたモーセとアロン、およびイスラエルの人々の全会衆のもとに行って、彼らと全会衆とに復命し、その地のくだものを彼らに見せた。
13:26 And they went and came to Moses, and to Aaron, and to all the congregation of the children of Israel, unto the wilderness of Paran, to Kadesh; and brought back word unto them, and unto all the congregation, and showed them the fruit of the land.
13:27 彼らはモーセに言った、「わたしたちはあなたが、つかわした地へ行きました。そこはまことに乳と蜜の流れている地です。これはそのくだものです。
13:27 And they told him, and said, We came unto the land where you sent us, and surely it flows with milk and honey; and this is the fruit of it.
13:28 しかし、その地に住む民は強く、その町々は堅固で非常に大きく、わたしたちはそこにアナクの子孫がいるのを見ました。
13:28 Nevertheless the people be strong that dwell in the land, and the cities are walled, and very great: and moreover we saw the children of Anak there.
13:29 またネゲブの地には、アマレクびとが住み、山地にはヘテびと、エブスびと、アモリびとが住み、海べとヨルダンの岸べには、カナンびとが住んでいます」。
13:29 The Amalekites dwell in the land of the south: and the Hittites, and the Jebusites, and the Amorites, dwell in the mountains: and the Canaanites dwell by the sea, and by the coast of Jordan.
13:30 そのとき、カレブはモーセの前で、民をしずめて言った、「わたしたちはすぐにのぼって、攻め取りましょう。わたしたちは必ず勝つことができます」。
13:30 And Caleb stilled the people before Moses, and said, Let us go up at once, and possess it; for we are well able to overcome it.
13:31 しかし、彼とともにのぼって行った人々は言った、「わたしたちはその民のところへ攻めのぼることはできません。彼らはわたしたちよりも強いからです」。
13:31 But the men that went up with him said, We be not able to go up against the people; for they are stronger than we.
13:32 そして彼らはその探った地のことを、イスラエルの人々に悪く言いふらして言った、「わたしたちが行き巡って探った地は、そこに住む者を滅ぼす地です。またその所でわたしたちが見た民はみな背の高い人々です。
13:32 And they brought up an evil report of the land which they had searched unto the children of Israel, saying, The land, through which we have gone to search it, is a land that eats up the inhabitants thereof; and all the people that we saw in it are men of a great stature.
13:33 わたしたちはまたそこで、ネピリムから出たアナクの子孫ネピリムを見ました。わたしたちには自分が、いなごのように思われ、また彼らにも、そう見えたに違いありません」。
13:33 And there we saw the giants, the sons of Anak, which come of the giants: and we were in our own sight as grasshoppers, and so we were in their sight.
14:1 そこで、会衆はみな声をあげて叫び、民はその夜、泣き明かした。
14:1 And all the congregation lifted up their voice, and cried; and the people wept that night.
14:2 またイスラエルの人々はみなモーセとアロンにむかってつぶやき、全会衆は彼らに言った、「ああ、わたしたちはエジプトの国で死んでいたらよかったのに。この荒野で死んでいたらよかったのに。
14:2 And all the children of Israel murmured against Moses and against Aaron: and the whole congregation said unto them, Would God that we had died in the land of Egypt! or would God we had died in this wilderness!
14:3 なにゆえ、主はわたしたちをこの地に連れてきて、つるぎに倒れさせ、またわたしたちの妻子をえじきとされるのであろうか。エジプトに帰る方が、むしろ良いではないか」。
14:3 And wherefore has the LORD brought us unto this land, to fall by the sword, that our wives and our children should be a prey? were it not better for us to return into Egypt?
14:4 彼らは互に言った、「わたしたちはひとりのかしらを立てて、エジプトに帰ろう」。
14:4 And they said one to another, Let us make a captain, and let us return into Egypt.
14:5 そこで、モーセとアロンはイスラエルの人々の全会衆の前でひれふした。
14:5 Then Moses and Aaron fell on their faces before all the assembly of the congregation of the children of Israel.
14:6 このとき、その地を探った者のうちのヌンの子ヨシュアとエフンネの子カレブは、その衣服を裂き、
14:6 And Joshua the son of Nun, and Caleb the son of Jephunneh, which were of them that searched the land, rent their clothes:
14:7 イスラエルの人々の全会衆に言った、「わたしたちが行き巡って探った地は非常に良い地です。
14:7 And they spoke unto all the company of the children of Israel, saying, The land, which we passed through to search it, is an exceeding good land.
14:8 もし、主が良しとされるならば、わたしたちをその地に導いて行って、それをわたしたちにくださるでしょう。それは乳と蜜の流れている地です。
14:8 If the LORD delight in us, then he will bring us into this land, and give it us; a land which flows with milk and honey.

14:9 Only rebel not all of you against the LORD, neither fear all of you the people of the land; for they are bread for us: their defence is departed from them, and the LORD is with us: fear them not.
14:10 ところが会衆はみな石で彼らを撃ち殺そうとした。そのとき、主の栄光が、会見の幕屋からイスラエルのすべての人に現れた。
14:10 But all the congregation bade stone them with stones. And the glory of the LORD appeared in the tabernacle of the congregation before all the children of Israel.
14:11 主はモーセに言われた、「この民はいつまでわたしを侮るのか。わたしがもろもろのしるしを彼らのうちに行ったのに、彼らはいつまでわたしを信じないのか。
14:11 And the LORD said unto Moses, How long will this people provoke me? and how long will it be before they believe me, for all the signs which I have showed among them?
14:12 わたしは疫病をもって彼らを撃ち滅ぼし、あなたを彼らよりも大いなる強い国民としよう」。
14:12 I will strike them with the pestilence, and disinherit them, and will make of you a greater nation and mightier than they.

14:13 And Moses said unto the LORD, Then the Egyptians shall hear it, (for you brought up this people in your might from among them;)

14:14 And they will tell it to the inhabitants of this land: for they have heard that you LORD are among this people, that you LORD are seen face to face, and that your cloud stands over them, and that you go before them, by day time in a pillar of a cloud, and in a pillar of fire by night.
14:15 いま、もし、あなたがこの民をひとり残らず殺されるならば、あなたのことを聞いた国民は語って、
14:15 Now if you shall kill all this people as one man, then the nations which have heard the fame of you will speak, saying,
14:16 『主は与えると誓った地に、この民を導き入れることができなかったため、彼らを荒野で殺したのだ』と言うでしょう。
14:16 Because the LORD was not able to bring this people into the land which he swore unto them, therefore he has slain them in the wilderness.
14:17 どうぞ、あなたが約束されたように、いま主の大いなる力を現してください。
14:17 And now, I plead to you, let the power of my LORD be great, according as you have spoken, saying,
14:18 あなたはかつて、『主は怒ることおそく、いつくしみに富み、罪ととがをゆるす者、しかし、罰すべき者は、決してゆるさず、父の罪を子に報いて、三、四代に及ぼす者である』と言われました。
14:18 The LORD is longsuffering, and of great mercy, forgiving iniquity and transgression, and by no means clearing the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation.
14:19 どうぞ、あなたの大いなるいつくしみによって、エジプトからこのかた、今にいたるまで、この民をゆるされたように、この民の罪をおゆるしください」。
14:19 Pardon, I plead to you, the iniquity of this people according unto the greatness of your mercy, and as you have forgiven this people, from Egypt even until now.
14:20 主は言われた、「わたしはあなたの言葉のとおりにゆるそう。
14:20 And the LORD said, I have pardoned according to your word:
14:21 しかし、わたしは生きている。また主の栄光が、全世界に満ちている。
14:21 But as truly as I live, all the earth shall be filled with the glory of the LORD.

14:22 Because all those men which have seen my glory, and my miracles, which I did in Egypt and in the wilderness, and have tempted me now these ten times, and have not hearkened to my voice;

14:23 Surely they shall not see the land which I swore unto their fathers, neither shall any of them that provoked me see it:

14:24 But my servant Caleb, because he had another spirit with him, and has followed me fully, him will I bring into the land into where he went; and his seed shall possess it.

14:26 And the LORD spoke unto Moses and unto Aaron, saying,

14:27 How long shall I bear with this evil congregation, which murmur against me? I have heard the murmurings of the children of Israel, which they murmur against me.
14:28 あなたは彼らに言いなさい、『主は言われる、「わたしは生きている。あなたがたが、わたしの耳に語ったように、わたしはあなたがたにするであろう。
14:28 Say unto them, As truly as I live, says the LORD, as all of you have spoken in mine ears, so will I do to you:
14:29 あなたがたは死体となって、この荒野に倒れるであろう。あなたがたのうち、わたしにむかってつぶやいた者、すなわち、すべて数えられた二十歳以上の者はみな倒れるであろう。
14:29 Your carcasses shall fall in this wilderness; and all that were numbered of you, according to your whole number, from twenty years old and upward which have murmured against me.
14:30 エフンネの子カレブと、ヌンの子ヨシュアのほかは、わたしがかつて、あなたがたを住まわせようと、手をあげて誓った地に、はいることができないであろう。
14:30 Doubtless all of you shall not come into the land, concerning which I swore to make you dwell therein, save Caleb the son of Jephunneh, and Joshua the son of Nun.
14:31 しかし、あなたがたが、えじきになるであろうと言ったあなたがたの子供は、わたしが導いて、はいるであろう。彼らはあなたがたが、いやしめた地を知るようになるであろう。
14:31 But your little ones, which all of you said should be a prey, them will I bring in, and they shall know the land which all of you have despised.

14:32 But as for you, your carcasses, they shall fall in this wilderness.

14:33 And your children shall wander in the wilderness forty years, and bear your whoredoms, until your carcasses be wasted in the wilderness.
14:34 あなたがたは、かの地を探った四十日の日数にしたがい、その一日を一年として、四十年のあいだ、自分の罪を負い、わたしがあなたがたを遠ざかったことを知るであろう」。
14:34 After the number of the days in which all of you searched the land, even forty days, each day for a year, shall all of you bear your iniquities, even forty years, and all of you shall know my breach of promise.
14:35 主なるわたしがこれを言う。わたしは必ずわたしに逆らって集まったこの悪い会衆に、これをことごとく行うであろう。彼らはこの荒野に朽ち、ここで死ぬであろう』」。
14:35 I the LORD have said, I will surely do it unto all this evil congregation, that are gathered together against me: in this wilderness they shall be consumed, and there they shall die.
14:36 こうして、モーセにつかわされ、かの地を探りに行き、帰ってきて、その地を悪く言い、全会衆を、モーセにむかって、つぶやかせた人々、
14:36 And the men, which Moses sent to search the land, who returned, and made all the congregation to murmur against him, by bringing up a slander upon the land,
14:37 すなわち、その地を悪く言いふらした人々は、疫病にかかって主の前に死んだが、
14:37 Even those men that did bring up the evil report upon the land, died by the plague before the LORD.
14:38 その地を探りに行った人々のうち、ヌンの子ヨシュアと、エフンネの子カレブとは生き残った。
14:38 But Joshua the son of Nun, and Caleb the son of Jephunneh, which were of the men that went to search the land, lived still.
14:39 モーセが、これらのことを、イスラエルのすべての人々に告げたとき、民は非常に悲しみ、
14:39 And Moses told these sayings unto all the children of Israel: and the people mourned greatly.

14:40 And they rose up early in the morning, and got them up into the top of the mountain, saying, Lo, we be here, and will go up unto the place which the LORD has promised: for we have sinned.

14:41 And Moses said, Wherefore now do all of you transgress the commandment of the LORD? but it shall not prosper.
14:42 あなたがたは上って行ってはならない。主があなたがたのうちにおられないから、あなたがたは敵の前に、撃ち破られるであろう。
14:42 Go not up, for the LORD is not among you; that all of you be not smitten before your enemies.
14:43 そこには、アマレクびとと、カナンびとがあなたがたの前にいるから、あなたがたは、つるぎに倒れるであろう。あなたがたがそむいて、主に従わなかったゆえ、主はあなたがたと共におられないからである」。
14:43 For the Amalekites and the Canaanites are there before you, and all of you shall fall by the sword: because all of you are turned away from the LORD, therefore the LORD will not be with you.
14:44 しかし、彼らは、ほしいままに山の頂に登った。ただし、主の契約の箱と、モーセとは、宿営の中から出なかった。
14:44 But they presumed to go up unto the hill top: nevertheless the ark of the covenant of the LORD, and Moses, departed not out of the camp.

14:45 Then the Amalekites came down, and the Canaanites which dwelt in that hill, and stroke them, and humiliated them, even unto Hormah.

15:2 Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, When all of you be come into the land of your habitations, which I give unto you,
15:3 主に火祭をささげる時、すなわち特別の誓願の供え物、あるいは自発の供え物、あるいは祝のときの供え物として、牛または羊を燔祭または犠牲としてささげ、主に香ばしいかおりとするとき、
15:3 And will make an offering by fire unto the LORD, a burnt offering, or a sacrifice in performing a vow, or in a freewill offering, or in your solemn feasts, to make a sweet savour unto the LORD, of the herd or of the flock:
15:4 その供え物を主にささげる者は、燔祭または犠牲と共に、小羊一頭ごとに、麦粉一エパの十分の一に、油一ヒンの四分の一を混ぜたものを、素祭としてささげ、ぶどう酒一ヒンの四分の一を、灌祭としてささげなければならない。
15:4 Then shall he that offers his offering unto the LORD bring a food offering of a tenth deal of flour mingled with the fourth part of an hin of oil.
15:5 （4節に合節）
15:5 And the fourth part of an hin of wine for a drink offering shall you prepare with the burnt offering or sacrifice, for one lamb.
15:6 もし、また雄羊を用いるときは、麦粉一エパの十分の二に、油一ヒンの三分の一を混ぜたものを、素祭としてささげ、
15:6 Or for a ram, you shall prepare for a food offering two tenth deals of flour mingled with the third part of an hin of oil.
15:7 また、ぶどう酒一ヒンの三分の一を、灌祭としてささげて、主に香ばしいかおりとしなければならない。
15:7 And for a drink offering you shall offer the third part of an hin of wine, for a sweet savour unto the LORD.
15:8 またあなたが特別の誓願の供え物、あるいは酬恩祭を、主にささげる時、若い雄牛を、燔祭または犠牲とするならば、
15:8 And when you prepare a bullock for a burnt offering, or for a sacrifice in performing a vow, or peace offerings unto the LORD:
15:9 麦粉一エパの十分の三に、油一ヒンの二分の一を混ぜたものを、素祭として、若い雄牛と共にささげ、
15:9 Then shall he bring with a bullock a food offering of three tenth deals of flour mingled with half an hin of oil.
15:10 また、ぶどう酒一ヒンの二分の一を、灌祭としてささげなければならない。これは火祭であって、主に香ばしいかおりとするものである。
15:10 And you shall bring for a drink offering half an hin of wine, for an offering made by fire, of a sweet savour unto the LORD.
15:11 雄牛、あるいは雄羊、あるいは小羊、あるいは子やぎは、一頭ごとに、このようにしなければならない。
15:11 Thus shall it be done for one bullock, or for one ram, or for a lamb, or a kid.
15:12 すなわち、あなたがたのささげる数にてらし、その数にしたがって、一頭ごとに、このようにしなければならない。
15:12 According to the number that all of you shall prepare, so shall all of you do to every one according to their number.
15:13 すべて国に生れた者が、火祭をささげて、主に香ばしいかおりとするときは、このように、これらのことを行わなければならない。
15:13 All that are born of the country shall do these things after this manner, in offering an offering made by fire, of a sweet savour unto the LORD.
15:14 またあなたがたのうちに寄留している他国人、またはあなたがたのうちに、代々ながく住む者が、火祭をささげて、主に香ばしいかおりとしようとする時は、あなたがたがするように、その人もしなければならない。
15:14 And if a stranger sojourn with you, or whosoever be among you in your generations, and will offer an offering made by fire, of a sweet savour unto the LORD; as all of you do, so he shall do.
15:15 会衆たる者は、あなたがたも、あなたがたのうちに寄留している他国人も、同一の定めに従わなければならない。これは、あなたがたが代々ながく守るべき定めである。他国の人も、主の前には、あなたがたと等しくなければならない。
15:15 One ordinance shall be both for you of the congregation, and also for the stranger that sojourns with you, an ordinance for ever in your generations: as all of you are, so shall the stranger be before the LORD.
15:16 すなわち、あなたがたも、あなたがたのうちに寄留している他国人も、同一の律法、同一のおきてに従わなければならない』」。
15:16 One law and one manner shall be for you, and for the stranger that sojourns with you.
15:17 主はまたモーセに言われた、
15:17 And the LORD spoke unto Moses, saying,
15:18 「イスラエルの人々に言いなさい、『わたしが導いて行く地に、あなたがたがはいって、
15:18 Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, When all of you come into the land where I bring you,
15:19 その地の食物を食べるとき、あなたがたは、ささげ物を主にささげなければならない。
15:19 Then it shall be, that, when all of you eat of the bread of the land, all of you shall offer up an heave offering unto the LORD.
15:20 すなわち、麦粉の初物で作った菓子を、ささげ物としなければならない。これを、打ち場からのささげ物のように、ささげなければならない。
15:20 All of you shall offer up a cake of the first of your dough for an heave offering: as all of you do the heave offering of the threshing floor, so shall all of you heave it.
15:21 あなたがたは代々その麦粉の初物で、主にささげ物をしなければならない。
15:21 Of the first of your dough all of you shall give unto the LORD an heave offering in your generations.
15:22 あなたがたが、もしあやまって、主がモーセに告げられたこのすべての戒めを行わず、
15:22 And if all of you have erred, and not observed all these commandments, which the LORD has spoken unto Moses,
15:23 主がモーセによって戒めを与えられた日からこのかた、代々にわたり、あなたがたに命じられたすべての事を行わないとき、
15:23 Even all that the LORD has commanded you by the hand of Moses, from the day that the LORD commanded Moses, and henceforward among your generations;
15:24 すなわち、会衆が知らずに、あやまって犯した時は、全会衆は若い雄牛一頭を、燔祭としてささげ、主に香ばしいかおりとし、これに素祭と灌祭とを定めのように加え、また雄やぎ一頭を、罪祭としてささげなければならない。
15:24 Then it shall be, if ought be committed by ignorance without the knowledge of the congregation, that all the congregation shall offer one young bullock for a burnt offering, for a sweet savour unto the LORD, with his food offering, and his drink offering, according to the manner, and one kid of the goats for a sin offering.
15:25 そして祭司は、イスラエルの人々の全会衆のために、罪のあがないをしなければならない。そうすれば、彼らはゆるされるであろう。それは過失だからである。彼らはその過失のために、その供え物として、火祭を主にささげ、また罪祭を主の前にささげなければならない。
15:25 And the priest shall make an atonement for all the congregation of the children of Israel, and it shall be forgiven them; for it is ignorance: and they shall bring their offering, a sacrifice made by fire unto the LORD, and their sin offering before the LORD, for their ignorance:
15:26 そうすれば、イスラエルの人々の全会衆はゆるされ、また彼らのうちに寄留している他国人も、ゆるされるであろう。民はみな過失を犯したからである。
15:26 And it shall be forgiven all the congregation of the children of Israel, and the stranger that sojourns among them; seeing all the people were in ignorance.
15:27 もし人があやまって罪を犯す時は、一歳の雌やぎ一頭を罪祭としてささげなければならない。
15:27 And if any soul sin through ignorance, then he shall bring a she goat of the first year for a sin offering.
15:28 そして祭司は、人があやまって罪を犯した時、そのあやまって罪を犯した人のために、主の前に罪のあがないをして、その罪をあがなわなければならない。そうすれば、彼はゆるされるであろう。
15:28 And the priest shall make an atonement for the soul that sins ignorantly, when he sins by ignorance before the LORD, to make an atonement for him; and it shall be forgiven him.
15:29 イスラエルの人々のうちの、国に生れた者でも、そのうちに寄留している他国人でも、あやまって罪を犯す者には、あなたがたは同一の律法を用いなければならない。
15:29 All of you shall have one law for him that sins through ignorance, both for him that is born among the children of Israel, and for the stranger that sojourns among them.
15:30 しかし、国に生れた者でも、他国の人でも、故意に罪を犯す者は主を汚すもので、その人は民のうちから断たれなければならない。
15:30 But the soul that does ought presumptuously, whether he be born in the land, or a stranger, the same reproaches the LORD; and that soul shall be cut off from among his people.
15:31 彼は主の言葉を侮り、その戒めを破ったのであるから、必ず断たれ、その罪を負わなければならない』」。
15:31 Because he has despised the word of the LORD, and has broken his commandment, that soul shall utterly be cut off; his iniquity shall be upon him.
15:32 イスラエルの人々が荒野におるとき、安息日にひとりの人が、たきぎを集めるのを見た。
15:32 And while the children of Israel were in the wilderness, they found a man that gathered sticks upon the sabbath day.

15:33 And they that found him gathering sticks brought him unto Moses and Aaron, and unto all the congregation.

15:34 And they put him in ward, because it was not declared what should be done to him.

15:35 And the LORD said unto Moses, The man shall be surely put to death: all the congregation shall stone him with stones without the camp.

15:36 And all the congregation brought him without the camp, and stoned him with stones, and he died; as the LORD commanded Moses.
15:37 主はまたモーセに言われた、
15:37 And the LORD spoke unto Moses, saying,
15:38 「イスラエルの人々に命じて、代々その衣服のすその四すみにふさをつけ、そのふさを青ひもで、すその四すみにつけさせなさい。
15:38 Speak unto the children of Israel, and bid them that they make them fringes in the borders of their garments throughout their generations, and that they put upon the fringe of the borders a thread of blue:
15:39 あなたがたが、そのふさを見て、主のもろもろの戒めを思い起して、それを行い、あなたがたが自分の心と、目の欲に従って、みだらな行いをしないためである。
15:39 And it shall be unto you for a fringe, that all of you may look upon it, and remember all the commandments of the LORD, and do them; and that all of you seek not after your own heart and your own eyes, after which all of you use to go a whoring:
15:40 こうして、あなたがたは、わたしのもろもろの戒めを思い起して、それを行い、あなたがたの神に聖なる者とならなければならない。
15:40 That all of you may remember, and do all my commandments, and be holy unto your God.

15:41 I am the LORD your God, which brought you out of the land of Egypt, to be your God: I am the LORD your God.

16:1 Now Korah, the son of Izhar, the son of Kohath, the son of Levi, and Dathan and Abiram, the sons of Eliab, and On, the son of Peleth, sons of Reuben, took men:
16:2 イスラエルの人々のうち、会衆のうちから選ばれて、つかさとなった名のある人々二百五十人と共に立って、モーセに逆らった。
16:2 And they rose up before Moses, with certain of the children of Israel, two hundred and fifty princes of the assembly, famous in the congregation, men of renown:
16:3 彼らは集まって、モーセとアロンとに逆らって言った、「あなたがたは、分を越えています。全会衆は、ことごとく聖なるものであって、主がそのうちにおられるのに、どうしてあなたがたは、主の会衆の上に立つのですか」。
16:3 And they gathered themselves together against Moses and against Aaron, and said unto them, All of you take too much upon you, seeing all the congregation are holy, every one of them, and the LORD is among them: wherefore then lift all of you up yourselves above the congregation of the LORD?

16:4 And when Moses heard it, he fell upon his face:

16:5 And he spoke unto Korah and unto all his company, saying, Even tomorrow the LORD will show who are his, and who is holy; and will cause him to come near unto him: even him whom he has chosen will he cause to come near unto him.
16:6 それで、次のようにしなさい。コラとそのすべての仲間とは、火ざらを取り、
16:6 This do; Take you censers, Korah, and all his company;

16:7 And put fire therein, and put incense in them before the LORD tomorrow: and it shall be that the man whom the LORD does choose, he shall be holy: all of you take too much upon you, all of you sons of Levi.

16:8 And Moses said unto Korah, Hear, I pray you, all of you sons of Levi:

16:9 Seems it but a small thing unto you, that the God of Israel has separated you from the congregation of Israel, to bring you near to himself to do the service of the tabernacle of the LORD, and to stand before the congregation to minister unto them?
16:10 神はあなたとあなたの兄弟なるレビの子たちをみな近づけられた。あなたがたはなお、その上に祭司となることを求めるのか。
16:10 And he has brought you near to him, and all your brethren the sons of Levi with you: and seek all of you the priesthood also?

16:11 For which cause both you and all your company are gathered together against the LORD: and what is Aaron, that all of you murmur against him?

16:12 And Moses sent to call Dathan and Abiram, the sons of Eliab: which said, We will not come up:

16:13 Is it a small thing that you have brought us up out of a land that flows with milk and honey, to kill us in the wilderness, except you make yourself altogether a prince over us?

16:14 Moreover you have not brought us into a land that flows with milk and honey, or given us inheritance of fields and vineyards: will you put out the eyes of these men? we will not come up.

16:15 And Moses was very angry, and said unto the LORD, Respect not you their offering: I have not taken one ass from them, neither have I hurt one of them.

16:16 And Moses said unto Korah, Be you and all your company before the LORD, you, and they, and Aaron, tomorrow:

16:17 And take every man his censer, and put incense in them, and bring all of you before the LORD every man his censer, two hundred and fifty censers; you also, and Aaron, each of you his censer.
16:18 彼らは、おのおの火ざらを取り、火をその中に入れ、それに薫香を盛り、モーセとアロンも共に、会見の幕屋の入口に立った。
16:18 And they took every man his censer, and put fire in them, and laid incense thereon, and stood in the door of the tabernacle of the congregation with Moses and Aaron.

16:19 And Korah gathered all the congregation against them unto the door of the tabernacle of the congregation: and the glory of the LORD appeared unto all the congregation.

16:20 And the LORD spoke unto Moses and unto Aaron, saying,
16:21 「あなたがたはこの会衆を離れなさい。わたしはただちに彼らを滅ぼすであろう」。
16:21 Separate yourselves from among this congregation, that I may consume them in a moment.
16:22 彼らふたりは、ひれ伏して言った、「神よ、すべての肉なる者の命の神よ、このひとりの人が、罪を犯したからといって、あなたは全会衆に対して怒られるのですか」。
16:22 And they fell upon their faces, and said, O God, the God of the spirits of all flesh, shall one man sin, and will you be angry with all the congregation?
16:23 主はモーセに言われた、
16:23 And the LORD spoke unto Moses, saying,
16:24 「あなたは会衆に告げて、コラとダタンとアビラムのすまいの周囲を去れと言いなさい」。
16:24 Speak unto the congregation, saying, Get you up from about the tabernacle of Korah, Dathan, and Abiram.
16:25 モーセは立ってダタンとアビラムのもとに行ったが、イスラエルの長老たちも、彼に従って行った。
16:25 And Moses rose up and went unto Dathan and Abiram; and the elders of Israel followed him.

16:26 And he spoke unto the congregation, saying, Depart, I pray you, from the tents of these wicked men, and touch nothing of their's, lest all of you be consumed in all their sins.

16:27 So they got up from the tabernacle of Korah, Dathan, and Abiram, on every side: and Dathan and Abiram came out, and stood in the door of their tents, and their wives, and their sons, and their little children.
16:28 モーセは言った、「あなたがたは主がこれらのすべての事をさせるために、わたしをつかわされたこと、またわたしが、これを自分の心にしたがって行うものでないことを、次のことによって知るであろう。
16:28 And Moses said, Hereby all of you shall know that the LORD has sent me to do all these works; for I have not done them of mine own mind.
16:29 すなわち、もしこれらの人々が、普通の死に方で死に、普通の運命に会うのであれば、主がわたしをつかわされたのではない。
16:29 If these men die the common death of all men, or if they be visited after the visitation of all men; then the LORD has not sent me.
16:30 しかし、主が新しい事をされ、地が口を開いて、これらの人々と、それに属する者とを、ことごとくのみつくして、生きながら陰府に下らせられるならば、あなたがたはこれらの人々が、主を侮ったのであることを知らなければならない」。
16:30 But if the LORD make a new thing, and the earth open her mouth, and swallow them up, with all that appertain unto them, and they go down quick into the pit; then all of you shall understand that these men have provoked the LORD.
16:31 モーセが、これらのすべての言葉を述べ終ったとき、彼らの下の土地が裂け、
16:31 And it came to pass, as he had made an end of speaking all these words, that the ground clave asunder that was under them:

16:32 And the earth opened her mouth, and swallowed them up, and their houses, and all the men that appertained unto Korah, and all their goods.

16:33 They, and all that appertained to them, went down alive into the pit, and the earth closed upon them: and they perished from among the congregation.

16:34 And all Israel that were round about them fled at the cry of them: for they said, Lest the earth swallow us up also.

16:35 And there came out a fire from the LORD, and consumed the two hundred and fifty men that offered incense.
16:36 主はモーセに言われた、
16:36 And the LORD spoke unto Moses, saying,
16:37 「あなたは祭司アロンの子エレアザルに告げて、その燃える火の中から、かの火ざらを取り出させ、その中の火を遠く広くまき散らさせなさい。それらの火ざらは聖となったから、
16:37 Speak unto Eleazar the son of Aaron the priest, that he take up the censers out of the burning, and scatter you the fire yonder; for they are hallowed.
16:38 罪を犯して命を失った人々の、これらの火ざらを、広い延べ板として、祭壇のおおいとしなさい。これは主の前にささげられて、聖となったからである。こうして、これはイスラエルの人々に、しるしとなるであろう」。
16:38 The censers of these sinners against their own souls, let them make them broad plates for a covering of the altar: for they offered them before the LORD, therefore they are hallowed: and they shall be a sign unto the children of Israel.
16:39 そこで祭司エレアザルは、かの焼き殺された人々が供えた青銅の火ざらを取り、これを広く打ち延ばして、祭壇のおおいとし、
16:39 And Eleazar the priest took the brazen censers, wherewith they that were burnt had offered; and they were made broad plates for a covering of the altar:
16:40 これをイスラエルの人々の記念の物とした。これはアロンの子孫でないほかの人が、主の前に近づいて、薫香をたくことのないようにするため、またその人がコラ、およびその仲間のようにならないためである。すなわち、主がモーセによってエレアザルに言われたとおりである。
16:40 To be a memorial unto the children of Israel, that no stranger, which is not of the seed of Aaron, come near to offer incense before the LORD; that he be not as Korah, and as his company: as the LORD said to him by the hand of Moses.
16:41 その翌日、イスラエルの人々の会衆は、みなモーセとアロンとにつぶやいて言った、「あなたがたは主の民を殺しました」。
16:41 But on the next day all the congregation of the children of Israel murmured against Moses and against Aaron, saying, All of you have killed the people of the LORD.
16:42 会衆が集まって、モーセとアロンとに逆らったとき、会見の幕屋を望み見ると、雲がこれをおおい、主の栄光が現れていた。
16:42 And it came to pass, when the congregation was gathered against Moses and against Aaron, that they looked toward the tabernacle of the congregation: and, behold, the cloud covered it, and the glory of the LORD appeared.
16:43 モーセとアロンとが、会見の幕屋の前に行くと、
16:43 And Moses and Aaron came before the tabernacle of the congregation.
16:44 主はモーセに言われた、
16:44 And the LORD spoke unto Moses, saying,
16:45 「あなたがたはこの会衆を離れなさい。わたしはただちに彼らを滅ぼそう」。そこで彼らふたりは、ひれ伏した。
16:45 Get you up from among this congregation, that I may consume them as in a moment. And they fell upon their faces.
16:46 モーセはアロンに言った、「あなたは火ざらを取って、それに祭壇から取った火を入れ、その上に薫香を盛り、急いでそれを会衆のもとに持って行って、彼らのために罪のあがないをしなさい。主が怒りを発せられ、疫病がすでに始まったからです」。
16:46 And Moses said unto Aaron, Take a censer, and put fire therein from off the altar, and put on incense, and go quickly unto the congregation, and make an atonement for them: for there is wrath gone out from the LORD; the plague is begun.
16:47 そこで、アロンはモーセの言ったように、それを取って会衆の中に走って行ったが、疫病はすでに民のうちに始まっていたので、薫香をたいて、民のために罪のあがないをし、
16:47 And Aaron took as Moses commanded, and ran into the midst of the congregation; and, behold, the plague was begun among the people: and he put on incense, and made an atonement for the people.
16:48 すでに死んだ者と、なお生きている者との間に立つと、疫病はやんだ。
16:48 And he stood between the dead and the living; and the plague was stayed.
16:49 コラの事によって死んだ者のほかに、この疫病によって死んだ者は一万四千七百人であった。
16:49 Now they that died in the plague were fourteen thousand and seven hundred, beside them that died about the matter of Korah.
16:50 アロンは会見の幕屋の入口にいるモーセのもとに帰った。こうして疫病はやんだ。
16:50 And Aaron returned unto Moses unto the door of the tabernacle of the congregation: and the plague was stayed.
17:1 主はモーセに言われた、
17:1 And the LORD spoke unto Moses, saying,
17:2 「イスラエルの人々に告げて、彼らのうちから、おのおのの父祖の家にしたがって、つえ一本ずつを取りなさい。すなわち、そのすべてのつかさたちから、父祖の家にしたがって、つえ十二本を取り、その人々の名を、おのおのそのつえに書きしるし、
17:2 Speak unto the children of Israel, and take of every one of them a rod according to the house of their fathers, of all their princes according to the house of their fathers twelve rods: write you every man's name upon his rod.
17:3 レビのつえにはアロンの名を書きしるしなさい。父祖の家のかしらは、おのおののつえ一本を出すのだからである。
17:3 And you shall write Aaron's name upon the rod of Levi: for one rod shall be for the head of the house of their fathers.
17:4 そして、これらのつえを、わたしがあなたがたに会う会見の幕屋の中の、あかしの箱の前に置きなさい。
17:4 And you shall lay them up in the tabernacle of the congregation before the testimony, where I will meet with you.
17:5 わたしの選んだ人のつえには、芽が出るであろう。こうして、わたしはイスラエルの人々が、あなたがたにむかって、つぶやくのをやめさせるであろう」。
17:5 And it shall come to pass, that the man's rod, whom I shall choose, shall blossom: and I will make to cease from me the murmurings of the children of Israel, whereby they murmur against you.
17:6 モーセが、このようにイスラエルの人々に語ったので、つかさたちはみな、その父祖の家にしたがって、おのおの、つえ一本ずつを彼に渡した。そのつえは合わせて十二本。アロンのつえも、そのつえのうちにあった。
17:6 And Moses spoke unto the children of Israel, and every one of their princes gave him a rod apiece, for each prince one, according to their fathers' houses, even twelve rods: and the rod of Aaron was among their rods.
17:7 モーセは、それらのつえを、あかしの幕屋の中の、主の前に置いた。
17:7 And Moses laid up the rods before the LORD in the tabernacle of witness.
17:8 その翌日、モーセが、あかしの幕屋にはいって見ると、レビの家のために出したアロンのつえは芽をふき、つぼみを出し、花が咲いて、あめんどうの実を結んでいた。
17:8 And it came to pass, that on the next day Moses went into the tabernacle of witness; and, behold, the rod of Aaron for the house of Levi was budded, and brought forth buds, and bloomed blossoms, and yielded almonds.
17:9 モーセがそれらのつえを、ことごとく主の前から、イスラエルのすべての人の所に持ち出したので、彼らは見て、おのおの自分のつえを取った。
17:9 And Moses brought out all the rods from before the LORD unto all the children of Israel: and they looked, and took every man his rod.
17:10 主はモーセに言われた、「アロンのつえを、あかしの箱の前に持ち帰り、そこに保存して、そむく者どものために、しるしとしなさい。こうして、彼らのわたしに対するつぶやきをやめさせ、彼らの死ぬのをまぬかれさせなければならない」。
17:10 And the LORD said unto Moses, Bring Aaron's rod again before the testimony, to be kept for a token against the rebels; and you shall quite take away their murmurings from me, that they die not.
17:11 モーセはそのようにして、主が彼に命じられたとおりに行った。
17:11 And Moses did so: as the LORD commanded him, so did he.
17:12 イスラエルの人々は、モーセに言った、「ああ、わたしたちは死ぬ。破滅です、全滅です。
17:12 And the children of Israel spoke unto Moses, saying, Behold, we die, we perish, we all perish.
17:13 主の幕屋に近づく者が、みな死ぬのであれば、わたしたちは死に絶えるではありませんか」。
17:13 Whosoever comes any thing near unto the tabernacle of the LORD shall die: shall we be consumed with dying?
18:1 そこで、主はアロンに言われた、「あなたとあなたの子たち、およびあなたの父祖の家の者は、聖所に関する罪を負わなければならない。また、あなたとあなたの子たちとは、祭司職に関する罪を負わなければならない。
18:1 And the LORD said unto Aaron, You and your sons and your father's house with you shall bear the iniquity of the sanctuary: and you and your sons with you shall bear the iniquity of your priesthood.
18:2 あなたはまた、あなたの兄弟なるレビの部族の者、すなわち、あなたの父祖の部族の者どもを、あなたに近づかせ、あなたに連なり、あなたに仕えさせなければならない。ただし、あなたとあなたの子たちとは、共にあかしの幕屋の前で仕えなければならない。
18:2 And your brethren also of the tribe of Levi, the tribe of your father, bring you with you, that they may be joined unto you, and minister unto you: but you and your sons with you shall minister before the tabernacle of witness.
18:3 彼らは、あなたの務と、すべての幕屋の務とを守らなければならない。ただし、聖所の器と、祭壇とに近づいてはならない。彼らもあなたがたも、死ぬことのないためである。
18:3 And they shall keep your charge, and the charge of all the tabernacle: only they shall not come nigh the vessels of the sanctuary and the altar, that neither they, nor all of you also, die.
18:4 彼らはあなたに連なって、会見の幕屋の務を守り、幕屋のもろもろの働きをしなければならない。ほかの者は、あなたがたに近づいてはならない。
18:4 And they shall be joined unto you, and keep the charge of the tabernacle of the congregation, for all the service of the tabernacle: and a stranger shall not come nigh unto you.
18:5 このように、あなたがたは、聖所の務と、祭壇の務とを守らなければならない。そうすれば、主の激しい怒りは、かさねてイスラエルの人々に臨まないであろう。
18:5 And all of you shall keep the charge of the sanctuary, and the charge of the altar: that there be no wrath any more upon the children of Israel.
18:6 わたしはあなたがたの兄弟たるレビびとを、イスラエルの人々のうちから取り、主のために、これを賜物として、あなたがたに与え、会見の幕屋の働きをさせる。
18:6 And I, behold, I have taken your brethren the Levites from among the children of Israel: to you they are given as a gift for the LORD, to do the service of the tabernacle of the congregation.
18:7 あなたとあなたの子たちは共に祭司職を守って、祭壇と、垂幕のうちのすべての事を執り行い、共に勤めなければならない。わたしは祭司の職務を賜物として、あなたがたに与える。ほかの人で近づく者は殺されるであろう」。
18:7 Therefore you and your sons with you shall keep your priest's office for everything of the altar, and within the vail; and all of you shall serve: I have given your priest's office unto you as a service of gift: and the stranger that comes nigh shall be put to death.
18:8 主はまたアロンに言われた、「わたしはイスラエルの人々の、すべての聖なる供え物で、わたしにささげる物の一部をあなたに与える。すなわち、わたしはこれをあなたと、あなたの子たちに、その分け前として与え、永久に受くべき分とする。
18:8 And the LORD spoke unto Aaron, Behold, I also have given you the charge of mine heave offerings of all the hallowed things of the children of Israel; unto you have I given them by reason of the anointing, and to your sons, by an ordinance for ever.
18:9 いと聖なる供え物のうち、火で焼かずに、あなたに帰すべきものは次のとおりである。すなわち、わたしにささげるすべての供え物、素祭、罪祭、愆祭はみな、いと聖なる物であって、あなたとあなたの子たちに帰するであろう。
18:9 This shall be yours of the most holy things, reserved from the fire: every oblation of theirs, every food offering of theirs, and every sin offering of theirs, and every trespass offering of theirs which they shall render unto me, shall be most holy for you and for your sons.
18:10 いと聖なる所で、それを食べなければならない。男子はみな、それを食べることができる。それはあなたに帰すべき聖なる物である。
18:10 In the most holy place shall you eat it; every male shall eat it: it shall be holy unto you.
18:11 またあなたに帰すべきものはこれである。すなわち、イスラエルの人々のささげる供え物のうち、すべて揺祭とするものであって、これをあなたとあなたのむすこ娘に与えて、永久に受くべき分とする。あなたの家の者のうち、清い者はみな、これを食べることができる。
18:11 And this is yours; the heave offering of their gift, with all the wave offerings of the children of Israel: I have given them unto you, and to your sons and to your daughters with you, by a statute for ever: every one that is clean in your house shall eat of it.
18:12 すべて油の最もよい物、およびすべて新しいぶどう酒と、穀物の最も良い物など、人々が主にささげる初穂をあなたに与える。
18:12 All the best of the oil, and all the best of the wine, and of the wheat, the first-fruits of them which they shall offer unto the LORD, them have I given you.
18:13 国のすべての産物の初物で、人々が主のもとに携えてきたものは、あなたに帰するであろう。あなたの家の者のうち、清い者はみな、これを食べることができる。
18:13 And whatsoever is first ripe in the land, which they shall bring unto the LORD, shall be yours; every one that is clean in yours house shall eat of it.
18:14 イスラエルのうちの奉納物はみな、あなたに帰する。
18:14 Every thing devoted in Israel shall be yours.
18:15 すべて肉なる者のういごであって、主にささげられる者はみな、人でも獣でも、あなたに帰する。ただし、人のういごは必ずあがなわなければならない。また汚れた獣のういごも、あがなわなければならない。
18:15 Every thing that opens the womb in all flesh, which they bring unto the LORD, whether it be of men or beasts, shall be yours: nevertheless the firstborn of man shall you surely redeem, and the first born of unclean beasts shall you redeem.
18:16 人のういごは生後一か月で、あがなわなければならない。そのあがない金はあなたの値積りにより、聖所のシケルにしたがって、銀五シケルでなければならない。一シケルは二十ゲラである。
18:16 And those that are to be redeemed from a month old shall you redeem, according to yours estimation, for the money of five shekels, after the shekel of the sanctuary, which is twenty gerahs.
18:17 しかし、牛のういご、羊のういご、やぎのういごは、あがなってはならない。これらは聖なるものである。その血を祭壇に注ぎかけ、その脂肪を焼いて火祭とし、香ばしいかおりとして、主にささげなければならない。
18:17 But the first born of a cow, or the first born of a sheep, or the first born of a goat, you shall not redeem; they are holy: you shall sprinkle their blood upon the altar, and shall burn their fat for an offering made by fire, for a sweet savour unto the LORD.
18:18 その肉はあなたに帰する。それは揺祭の胸や右のももと同じく、あなたに帰する。
18:18 And the flesh of them shall be yours, as the wave breast and as the right shoulder are yours.
18:19 イスラエルの人々が、主にささげる聖なる供え物はみな、あなたとあなたのむすこ娘とに与えて、永久に受ける分とする。これは主の前にあって、あなたとあなたの子孫とに対し、永遠に変らぬ塩の契約である」。
18:19 All the heave offerings of the holy things, which the children of Israel offer unto the LORD, have I given you, and your sons and your daughters with you, by a statute for ever: it is a covenant of salt for ever before the LORD unto you and to your seed with you.
18:20 主はまたアロンに言われた、「あなたはイスラエルの人々の地のうちに、嗣業をもってはならない。また彼らのうちに、何の分をも持ってはならない。彼らのうちにあって、わたしがあなたの分であり、あなたの嗣業である。
18:20 And the LORD spoke unto Aaron, You shall have no inheritance in their land, neither shall you have any part among them: I am your part and yours inheritance among the children of Israel.
18:21 わたしはレビの子孫にはイスラエルにおいて、すべて十分の一を嗣業として与え、その働き、すなわち、会見の幕屋の働きに報いる。
18:21 And, behold, I have given the children of Levi all the tenth in Israel for an inheritance, for their service which they serve, even the service of the tabernacle of the congregation.
18:22 イスラエルの人々は、かさねて会見の幕屋に近づいてはならない。罪を得て死なないためである。
18:22 Neither must the children of Israel henceforth come nigh the tabernacle of the congregation, lest they bear sin, and die.
18:23 レビびとだけが会見の幕屋の働きをしなければならない。彼らがその罪を負うであろう。彼らがイスラエルの人々のうちに、嗣業の地を持たないことをもって、あなたがたの代々ながく守るべき定めとしなければならない。
18:23 But the Levites shall do the service of the tabernacle of the congregation, and they shall bear their iniquity: it shall be a statute for ever throughout your generations, that among the children of Israel they have no inheritance.
18:24 わたしはイスラエルの人々が供え物として主にささげる十分の一を、レビびとに嗣業として与えた。それで『彼らはイスラエルの人々のうちに、嗣業の地を持ってはならない』と、わたしは彼らに言ったのである」。
18:24 But the tithes of the children of Israel, which they offer as an heave offering unto the LORD, I have given to the Levites to inherit: therefore I have said unto them, Among the children of Israel they shall have no inheritance.
18:25 主はモーセに言われた、
18:25 And the LORD spoke unto Moses, saying,
18:26 「レビびとに言いなさい、『わたしがイスラエルの人々から取って、嗣業として与える十分の一を受ける時、あなたがたはその十分の一の十分の一を、主にささげなければならない。
18:26 Thus speak unto the Levites, and say unto them, When all of you take of the children of Israel the tithes which I have given you from them for your inheritance, then all of you shall offer up an heave offering of it for the LORD, even a tenth part of the tithe.
18:27 あなたがたのささげ物は、打ち場からの穀物や、酒ぶねからのぶどう酒と同じように見なされるであろう。
18:27 And this your heave offering shall be reckoned unto you, as though it were the corn of the threshing floor, and as the fullness of the winepress.
18:28 そのようにあなたがたもまた、イスラエルの人々から受けるすべての十分の一の物のうちから、主に供え物をささげ、主にささげたその供え物を、祭司アロンに与えなければならない。
18:28 Thus all of you also shall offer an heave offering unto the LORD of all your tithes, which all of you receive of the children of Israel; and all of you shall give thereof the LORD's heave offering to Aaron the priest.
18:29 あなたがたの受けるすべての贈物のうちから、その良いところ、すなわち、聖なる部分を取って、ことごとく供え物として、主にささげなければならない』。
18:29 Out of all your gifts all of you shall offer every heave offering of the LORD, of all the best thereof, even the hallowed part thereof out of it.

18:30 Therefore you shall say unto them, When all of you have heaved the best thereof from it, then it shall be counted unto the Levites as the increase of the threshing floor, and as the increase of the winepress.
18:31 あなたがたと、あなたがたの家族とは、どこでそれを食べてもよい。これは会見の幕屋であなたがたがする働きの報酬である。
18:31 And all of you shall eat it in every place, all of you and your households: for it is your reward for your service in the tabernacle of the congregation.
18:32 あなたがたが、その良いところをささげるときは、それによって、あなたがたは罪を負わないであろう。あなたがたはイスラエルの人々の聖なる供え物を汚してはならない。死をまぬかれるためである』」。
18:32 And all of you shall bear no sin by reason of it, when all of you have heaved from it the best of it: neither shall all of you pollute the holy things of the children of Israel, lest all of you die.
19:1 主はモーセとアロンに言われた、
19:1 And the LORD spoke unto Moses and unto Aaron, saying,
19:2 「主の命じられた律法の定めは次のとおりである。すなわち『イスラエルの人々に告げて、完全で、傷がなく、まだくびきを負ったことのない赤い雌牛を、あなたのもとに引いてこさせ、
19:2 This is the ordinance of the law which the LORD has commanded, saying, Speak unto the children of Israel, that they bring you a red heifer without spot, wherein is no blemish, and upon which never came yoke:
19:3 これを祭司エレアザルにわたして、宿営の外にひき出させ、彼の前でこれをほふらせなければならない。
19:3 And all of you shall give her unto Eleazar the priest, that he may bring her forth without the camp, and one shall slay her before his face:
19:4 そして祭司エレアザルは、指をもってその血を取り、会見の幕屋の表に向かって、その血を七たびふりかけなければならない。
19:4 And Eleazar the priest shall take of her blood with his finger, and sprinkle of her blood directly before the tabernacle of the congregation seven times:
19:5 ついでその雌牛を自分の目の前で焼かせ、その皮と肉と血とは、その汚物と共に焼かなければならない。
19:5 And one shall burn the heifer in his sight; her skin, and her flesh, and her blood, with her dung, shall he burn:
19:6 そして祭司は香柏の木と、ヒソプと、緋の糸とを取って雌牛の燃えているなかに投げ入れなければならない。
19:6 And the priest shall take cedar wood, and hyssop, and scarlet, and cast it into the midst of the burning of the heifer.
19:7 そして祭司は衣服を洗い、水に身をすすいで後、宿営に、はいることができる。ただし祭司は夕まで汚れる。
19:7 Then the priest shall wash his clothes, and he shall bathe his flesh in water, and afterward he shall come into the camp, and the priest shall be unclean until the even.
19:8 またその雌牛を焼いた者も水で衣服を洗い、水に身をすすがなければならない。彼も夕まで汚れる。
19:8 And he that burns her shall wash his clothes in water, and bathe his flesh in water, and shall be unclean until the even.
19:9 それから身の清い者がひとり、その雌牛の灰を集め、宿営の外の清い所にたくわえておかなければならない。これはイスラエルの人々の会衆のため、汚れを清める水をつくるために備えるものであって、罪を清めるものである。
19:9 And a man that is clean shall gather up the ashes of the heifer, and lay them up without the camp in a clean place, and it shall be kept for the congregation of the children of Israel for a water of separation: it is a purification for sin.
19:10 その雌牛の灰を集めた者は衣服を洗わなければならない。その人は夕まで汚れる。これはイスラエルの人々と、そのうちに宿っている他国人との、永久に守るべき定めとしなければならない。
19:10 And he that gathers the ashes of the heifer shall wash his clothes, and be unclean until the even: and it shall be unto the children of Israel, and unto the stranger that sojourns among them, for a statute for ever.
19:11 すべて人の死体に触れる者は、七日のあいだ汚れる。
19:11 He that touches the dead body of any man shall be unclean seven days.
19:12 その人は三日目と七日目とに、この灰の水をもって身を清めなければならない。そうすれば清くなるであろう。しかし、もし三日目と七日目とに、身を清めないならば、清くならないであろう。
19:12 He shall purify himself with it on the third day, and on the seventh day he shall be clean: but if he purify not himself the third day, then the seventh day he shall not be clean.
19:13 すべて死人の死体に触れて、身を清めない者は主の幕屋を汚す者で、その人はイスラエルから断たれなければならない。汚れを清める水がその身に注ぎかけられないゆえ、その人は清くならず、その汚れは、なお、その身にあるからである。
19:13 Whosoever touches the dead body of any man that is dead, and purifies not himself, defiles the tabernacle of the LORD; and that soul shall be cut off from Israel: because the water of separation was not sprinkled upon him, he shall be unclean; his uncleanness is yet upon him.
19:14 人が天幕の中で死んだ時に用いる律法は次のとおりである。すなわち、すべてその天幕にはいった者、およびすべてその天幕にいた者は七日のあいだ汚れる。
19:14 This is the law, when a man dies in a tent: all that come into the tent, and all that is in the tent, shall be unclean seven days.
19:15 ふたで上をおおわない器はみな汚れる。
19:15 And every open vessel, which has no covering bound upon it, is unclean.
19:16 つるぎで殺された者、または死んだ者、または人の骨、または墓などに、野外で触れる者は皆、七日のあいだ汚れる。
19:16 And whosoever touches one that is slain with a sword in the open fields, or a dead body, or a bone of a man, or a grave, shall be unclean seven days.
19:17 汚れた者があった時には、罪を清める焼いた雌牛の灰を取って器に入れ、流れの水をこれに加え、
19:17 And for an unclean person they shall take of the ashes of the burnt heifer of purification for sin, and running water shall be put thereto in a vessel:
19:18 身の清い者がひとりヒソプを取って、その水に浸し、これをその天幕と、すべての器と、そこにいた人々と、骨、あるいは殺された者、あるいは死んだ者、あるいは墓などに触れた者とにふりかけなければならない。
19:18 And a clean person shall take hyssop, and dip it in the water, and sprinkle it upon the tent, and upon all the vessels, and upon the persons that were there, and upon him that touched a bone, or one slain, or one dead, or a grave:
19:19 すなわちその身の清い人は三日目と七日目とにその汚れたものに、それをふりかけなければならない。そして七日目にその人は身を清め、衣服を洗い、水に身をすすがなければならない。そうすれば夕になって清くなるであろう。
19:19 And the clean person shall sprinkle upon the unclean on the third day, and on the seventh day: and on the seventh day he shall purify himself, and wash his clothes, and bathe himself in water, and shall be clean at even.
19:20 しかし、汚れて身を清めない人は主の聖所を汚す者で、その人は会衆のうちから断たれなければならない。汚れを清める水がその身に注ぎかけられないゆえ、その人は汚れているからである。
19:20 But the man that shall be unclean, and shall not purify himself, that soul shall be cut off from among the congregation, because he has defiled the sanctuary of the LORD: the water of separation has not been sprinkled upon him; he is unclean.
19:21 これは彼らの永久に守るべき定めとしなければならない。すなわち汚れを清める水をふりかけた者は衣服を洗わなければならない。また汚れを清める水に触れた者も夕まで汚れるであろう。
19:21 And it shall be a perpetual statute unto them, that he that sprinkles the water of separation shall wash his clothes; and he that touches the water of separation shall be unclean until even.
19:22 すべて汚れた人の触れる物は汚れる。またそれに触れる人も夕まで汚れるであろう』」。
19:22 And whatsoever the unclean person touches shall be unclean; and the soul that touches it shall be unclean until even.
20:1 イスラエルの人々の全会衆は正月になってチンの荒野にはいった。そして民はカデシにとどまったが、ミリアムがそこで死んだので、彼女をそこに葬った。
20:1 Then came the children of Israel, even the whole congregation, into the desert of Zin in the first month: and the people abode in Kadesh; and Miriam died there, and was buried there.
20:2 そのころ会衆は水が得られなかったため、相集まってモーセとアロンに迫った。
20:2 And there was no water for the congregation: and they gathered themselves together against Moses and against Aaron.
20:3 すなわち民はモーセと争って言った、「さきにわれわれの兄弟たちが主の前に死んだ時、われわれも死んでいたらよかったものを。
20:3 And the people find fault with Moses, and spoke, saying, Would God that we had died when our brethren died before the LORD!
20:4 なぜ、あなたがたは主の会衆をこの荒野に導いて、われわれと、われわれの家畜とを、ここで死なせようとするのですか。
20:4 And why have all of you brought up the congregation of the LORD into this wilderness, that we and our cattle should die there?
20:5 どうしてあなたがたはわれわれをエジプトから上らせて、この悪い所に導き入れたのですか。ここには種をまく所もなく、いちじくもなく、ぶどうもなく、ざくろもなく、また飲む水もありません」。
20:5 And wherefore have all of you made us to come up out of Egypt, to bring us in unto this evil place? it is no place of seed, or of figs, or of vines, or of pomegranates; neither is there any water to drink.
20:6 そこでモーセとアロンは会衆の前を去り、会見の幕屋の入口へ行ってひれ伏した。すると主の栄光が彼らに現れ、
20:6 And Moses and Aaron went from the presence of the assembly unto the door of the tabernacle of the congregation, and they fell upon their faces: and the glory of the LORD appeared unto them.
20:7 主はモーセに言われた、
20:7 And the LORD spoke unto Moses, saying,
20:8 「あなたは、つえをとり、あなたの兄弟アロンと共に会衆を集め、その目の前で岩に命じて水を出させなさい。こうしてあなたは彼らのために岩から水を出して、会衆とその家畜に飲ませなさい」。
20:8 Take the rod, and gather you the assembly together, you, and Aaron your brother, and speak all of you unto the rock before their eyes; and it shall give forth his water, and you shall bring forth to them water out of the rock: so you shall give the congregation and their beasts drink.
20:9 モーセは命じられたように主の前にあるつえを取った。
20:9 And Moses took the rod from before the LORD, as he commanded him.
20:10 モーセはアロンと共に会衆を岩の前に集めて彼らに言った、「そむく人たちよ、聞きなさい。われわれがあなたがたのためにこの岩から水を出さなければならないのであろうか」。
20:10 And Moses and Aaron gathered the congregation together before the rock, and he said unto them, Hear now, all of you rebels; must we fetch you water out of this rock?
20:11 モーセは手をあげ、つえで岩を二度打つと、水がたくさんわき出たので、会衆とその家畜はともに飲んだ。
20:11 And Moses lifted up his hand, and with his rod he stroke the rock twice: and the water came out abundantly, and the congregation drank, and their beasts also.
20:12 そのとき主はモーセとアロンに言われた、「あなたがたはわたしを信じないで、イスラエルの人々の前にわたしの聖なることを現さなかったから、この会衆をわたしが彼らに与えた地に導き入れることができないであろう」。
20:12 And the LORD spoke unto Moses and Aaron, Because all of you believed me not, to sanctify me in the eyes of the children of Israel, therefore all of you shall not bring this congregation into the land which I have given them.
20:13 これがメリバの水であって、イスラエルの人々はここで主と争ったが、主は自分の聖なることを彼らのうちに現された。
20:13 This is the water of Meribah; because the children of Israel strove with the LORD, and he was sanctified in them.
20:14 さて、モーセはカデシからエドムの王に使者をつかわして言った、「あなたの兄弟、イスラエルはこう申します、『あなたはわたしたちが遭遇したすべての患難をご存じです。
20:14 And Moses sent messengers from Kadesh unto the king of Edom, Thus says your brother Israel, You know all the travail that has befallen us:
20:15 わたしたちの先祖はエジプトに下って行って、わたしたちは年久しくエジプトに住んでいましたが、エジプトびとがわたしたちと、わたしたちの先祖を悩ましたので、
20:15 How our fathers went down into Egypt, and we have dwelt in Egypt a long time; and the Egyptians vexed us, and our fathers:
20:16 わたしたちが主に呼ばわったとき、主はわたしたちの声を聞き、ひとりの天の使をつかわして、わたしたちをエジプトから導き出されました。わたしたちは今あなたの領地の端にあるカデシの町におります。
20:16 And when we cried unto the LORD, he heard our voice, and sent an angel, and has brought us forth out of Egypt: and, behold, we are in Kadesh, a city in the uttermost of your border:
20:17 どうぞ、わたしたちにあなたの国を通らせてください。わたしたちは畑もぶどう畑も通りません。また井戸の水も飲みません。ただ王の大路を通り、あなたの領地を過ぎるまでは右にも左にも曲りません』」。
20:17 Let us pass, I pray you, through your country: we will not pass through the fields, or through the vineyards, neither will we drink of the water of the wells: we will go by the king's high way, we will not turn to the right hand nor to the left, until we have passed your borders.
20:18 しかし、エドムはモーセに言った、「あなたはわたしの領地をとおってはなりません。さもないと、わたしはつるぎをもって出て、あなたに立ちむかうでしょう」。
20:18 And Edom said unto him, You shall not pass by me, lest I come out against you with the sword.
20:19 イスラエルの人々はエドムに言った、「わたしたちは大路を通ります。もしわたしたちとわたしたちの家畜とが、あなたの水を飲むことがあれば、その価を払います。わたしは徒歩で通るだけですから何事もないでしょう」。
20:19 And the children of Israel said unto him, We will go by the high way: and if I and my cattle drink of your water, then I will pay for it: I will only, without doing anything else, go through on my feet.
20:20 しかし、エドムは「あなたは通ることはなりません」と言って、多くの民と強い軍勢とを率い、出て、これに立ちむかってきた。
20:20 And he said, You shall not go through. And Edom came out against him with much people, and with a strong hand.
20:21 このようにエドムはイスラエルに、その領地を通ることを拒んだので、イスラエルはエドムからほかに向かった。
20:21 Thus Edom refused to give Israel passage through his border: wherefore Israel turned away from him.
20:22 こうしてイスラエルの人々の全会衆はカデシから進んでホル山に着いた。
20:22 And the children of Israel, even the whole congregation, journeyed from Kadesh, and came unto mount Hor.
20:23 主はエドムの国境に近いホル山で、モーセとアロンに言われた、
20:23 And the LORD spoke unto Moses and Aaron in mount Hor, by the coast of the land of Edom, saying,
20:24 「アロンはその民に連ならなければならない。彼はわたしがイスラエルの人々に与えた地に、はいることができない。これはメリバの水で、あなたがたがわたしの言葉にそむいたからである。
20:24 Aaron shall be gathered unto his people: for he shall not enter into the land which I have given unto the children of Israel, because all of you rebelled against my word at the water of Meribah.
20:25 あなたはアロンとその子エレアザルを連れてホル山に登り、
20:25 Take Aaron and Eleazar his son, and bring them up unto mount Hor:
20:26 アロンに衣服を脱がせて、それをその子エレアザルに着せなさい。アロンはそのところで死んで、その民に連なるであろう」。
20:26 And strip Aaron of his garments, and put them upon Eleazar his son: and Aaron shall be gathered unto his people, and shall die there.
20:27 モーセは主が命じられたとおりにし、連れだって全会衆の目の前でホル山に登った。
20:27 And Moses did as the LORD commanded: and they went up into mount Hor in the sight of all the congregation.
20:28 そしてモーセはアロンに衣服を脱がせ、それをその子エレアザルに着せた。アロンはその山の頂で死んだ。そしてモーセとエレアザルは山から下ったが、
20:28 And Moses stripped Aaron of his garments, and put them upon Eleazar his son; and Aaron died there in the top of the mount: and Moses and Eleazar came down from the mount.
20:29 全会衆がアロンの死んだのを見たとき、イスラエルの全家は三十日の間アロンのために泣いた。
20:29 And when all the congregation saw that Aaron was dead, they mourned for Aaron thirty days, even all the house of Israel.
21:1 時にネゲブに住んでいたカナンびとアラデの王は、イスラエルがアタリムの道をとおって来ると聞いて、イスラエルを攻撃し、そのうちの数人を捕虜にした。
21:1 And when king Arad the Canaanite, which dwelt in the south, heard tell that Israel came by the way of the spies; then he fought against Israel, and took some of them prisoners.
21:2 そこでイスラエルは主に誓いを立てて言った、「もし、あなたがこの民をわたしの手にわたしてくださるならば、わたしはその町々をことごとく滅ぼしましょう」。
21:2 And Israel vowed a vow unto the LORD, and said, If you will indeed deliver this people into my hand, then I will utterly destroy their cities.
21:3 主はイスラエルの言葉を聞きいれ、カナンびとをわたされたので、イスラエルはそのカナンびとと、その町々とをことごとく滅ぼした。それでその所の名はホルマと呼ばれた。
21:3 And the LORD hearkened to the voice of Israel, and delivered up the Canaanites; and they utterly destroyed them and their cities: and he called the name of the place Hormah.
21:4 民はホル山から進み、紅海の道をとおって、エドムの地を回ろうとしたが、民はその道に堪えがたくなった。
21:4 And they journeyed from mount Hor by the way of the Red sea, to compass the land of Edom: and the soul of the people was much discouraged because of the way.
21:5 民は神とモーセとにむかい、つぶやいて言った、「あなたがたはなぜわたしたちをエジプトから導き上って、荒野で死なせようとするのですか。ここには食物もなく、水もありません。わたしたちはこの粗悪な食物はいやになりました」。
21:5 And the people spoke against God, and against Moses, Wherefore have all of you brought us up out of Egypt to die in the wilderness? for there is no bread, neither is there any water; and our soul loathes this light bread.
21:6 そこで主は、火のへびを民のうちに送られた。へびは民をかんだので、イスラエルの民のうち、多くのものが死んだ。
21:6 And the LORD sent fiery serpents among the people, and they bit the people; and much people of Israel died.
21:7 民はモーセのもとに行って言った、「わたしたちは主にむかい、またあなたにむかい、つぶやいて罪を犯しました。どうぞへびをわたしたちから取り去られるように主に祈ってください」。モーセは民のために祈った。
21:7 Therefore the people came to Moses, and said, We have sinned, for we have spoken against the LORD, and against you; pray unto the LORD, that he take away the serpents from us. And Moses prayed for the people.
21:8 そこで主はモーセに言われた、「火のへびを造って、それをさおの上に掛けなさい。すべてのかまれた者が仰いで、それを見るならば生きるであろう」。
21:8 And the LORD said unto Moses, Make you a fiery serpent, and set it upon a pole: and it shall come to pass, that every one that is bitten, when he looks upon it, shall live.
21:9 モーセは青銅で一つのへびを造り、それをさおの上に掛けて置いた。すべてへびにかまれた者はその青銅のへびを仰いで見て生きた。
21:9 And Moses made a serpent of brass, and put it upon a pole, and it came to pass, that if a serpent had bitten any man, when he beheld the serpent of brass, he lived.
21:10 イスラエルの人々は道を進んでオボテに宿営した。
21:10 And the children of Israel set forward, and pitched in Oboth.
21:11 またオボテから進んで東の方、モアブの前にある荒野において、イエアバリムに宿営した。
21:11 And they journeyed from Oboth, and pitched at Ijeabarim, in the wilderness which is before Moab, toward the sunrising.
21:12 またそこから進んでゼレデの谷に宿営し、
21:12 From thence they removed, and pitched in the valley of Zared.
21:13 さらにそこから進んでアルノン川のかなたに宿営した。アルノン川はアモリびとの境から延び広がる荒野を流れるもので、モアブとアモリびととの間にあって、モアブの境をなしていた。
21:13 From thence they removed, and pitched on the other side of Arnon, which is in the wilderness that comes out of the coasts of the Amorites: for Arnon is the border of Moab, between Moab and the Amorites.
21:14 それゆえに、「主の戦いの書」にこう言われている。「スパのワヘブ、／アルノンの谷々、
21:14 Wherefore it is said in the book of the wars of the LORD, What he did in the Red sea, and in the brooks of Arnon,
21:15 谷々の斜面、／アルの町まで傾き、／モアブの境に寄りかかる」。
21:15 And at the stream of the brooks that goes down to the dwelling of Ar, and lies upon the border of Moab.
21:16 彼らはそこからベエルへ進んで行った。これは主がモーセにむかって、「民を集めよ。わたしはかれらに水を与えるであろう」と言われた井戸である。
21:16 And from thence they went to Beer: that is the well whereof the LORD spoke unto Moses, Gather the people together, and I will give them water.
21:17 その時イスラエルはこの歌をうたった。「井戸の水よ、わきあがれ、／人々よ、この井戸のために歌え、
21:17 Then Israel sang this song, Spring up, O well; sing all of you unto it:
21:18 笏とつえとをもって／つかさたちがこの井戸を掘り、／民のおさたちがこれを掘った」。そして彼らは荒野からマッタナに進み、
21:18 The princes dug the well, the nobles of the people dug it, by the direction of the lawgiver, with their staves. And from the wilderness they went to Mattanah:
21:19 マッタナからナハリエルに、ナハリエルからバモテに、
21:19 And from Mattanah to Nahaliel: and from Nahaliel to Bamoth:
21:20 バモテからモアブの野にある谷に行き、荒野を見おろすピスガの頂に着いた。
21:20 And from Bamoth in the valley, that is in the country of Moab, to the top of Pisgah, which looks toward Jeshimon.
21:21 ここでイスラエルはアモリびとの王シホンに使者をつかわして言わせた、
21:21 And Israel sent messengers unto Sihon king of the Amorites, saying,
21:22 「わたしにあなたの国を通らせてください。わたしたちは畑にもぶどう畑にも、はいりません。また井戸の水も飲みません。わたしたちはあなたの領地を通り過ぎるまで、ただ王の大路を通ります」。
21:22 Let me pass through your land: we will not turn into the fields, or into the vineyards; we will not drink of the waters of the well: but we will go along by the king's high way, until we be past your borders.
21:23 しかし、シホンはイスラエルに自分の領地を通ることを許さなかった。そしてシホンは民をことごとく集め、荒野に出て、イスラエルを攻めようとし、ヤハズにきてイスラエルと戦った。
21:23 And Sihon would not suffer Israel to pass through his border: but Sihon gathered all his people together, and went out against Israel into the wilderness: and he came to Jahaz, and fought against Israel.
21:24 イスラエルは、やいばで彼を撃ちやぶり、アルノンからヤボクまで彼の地を占領し、アンモンびとの境に及んだ。ヤゼルはアンモンびとの境だからである。
21:24 And Israel stroke him with the edge of the sword, and possessed his land from Arnon unto Jabbok, even unto the children of Ammon: for the border of the children of Ammon was strong.
21:25 こうしてイスラエルはこれらの町々をことごとく取った。そしてイスラエルはアモリびとのすべての町々に住み、ヘシボンとそれに附属するすべての村々にいた。
21:25 And Israel took all these cities: and Israel dwelt in all the cities of the Amorites, in Heshbon, and in all the villages thereof.
21:26 ヘシボンはアモリびとの王シホンの都であって、シホンはモアブの以前の王と戦って、彼の地をアルノンまで、ことごとくその手から奪い取ったのである。
21:26 For Heshbon was the city of Sihon the king of the Amorites, who had fought against the former king of Moab, and taken all his land out of his hand, even unto Arnon.
21:27 それゆえに歌にうたわれている。「人々よ、ヘシボンにきたれ、／シホンの町を築き建てよ。
21:27 Wherefore they that speak in proverbs say, Come into Heshbon, let the city of Sihon be built and prepared:
21:28 ヘシボンから火が燃え出し、／シホンの都から炎が出て、／モアブのアルを焼き尽し、／アルノンの高地の君たちを滅ぼしたからだ。
21:28 For there is a fire gone out of Heshbon, a flame from the city of Sihon: it has consumed Ar of Moab, and the lords of the high places of Arnon.
21:29 モアブよ、お前はわざわいなるかな、／ケモシの民よ、お前は滅ぼされるであろう。彼は、むすこらを逃げ去らせ、／娘らをアモリびとの王シホンの捕虜とならせた。
21:29 Woe to you, Moab! you are undone, O people of Chemosh: he has given his sons that escaped, and his daughters, into captivity unto Sihon king of the Amorites.
21:30 彼らの子らは滅び去った、／ヘシボンからデボンまで。われわれは荒した、／火はついてメデバに及んだ」。
21:30 We have shot at them; Heshbon is perished even unto Dibon, and we have laid them waste even unto Nophah, which reachs unto Medeba.
21:31 こうしてイスラエルはアモリびとの地に住んだが、
21:31 Thus Israel dwelt in the land of the Amorites.
21:32 モーセはまた人をつかわしてヤゼルを探らせ、ついにその村々を取って、そこにいたアモリびとを追い出し、
21:32 And Moses sent to spy out Jaazer, and they took the villages thereof, and drove out the Amorites that were there.
21:33 転じてバシャンの道に上って行ったが、バシャンの王オグは、その民をことごとく率い、エデレイで戦おうとして出迎えた。
21:33 And they turned and went up by the way of Bashan: and Og the king of Bashan went out against them, he, and all his people, to the battle at Edrei.
21:34 主はモーセに言われた、「彼を恐れてはならない。わたしは彼とその民とその地とを、ことごとくあなたの手にわたす。あなたはヘシボンに住んでいたアモリびとの王シホンにしたように彼にもするであろう」。
21:34 And the LORD said unto Moses, Fear him not: for I have delivered him into your hand, and all his people, and his land; and you shall do to him as you did unto Sihon king of the Amorites, which dwelt at Heshbon.
21:35 そこで彼とその子とすべての民とを、ひとり残らず撃ち殺して、その地を占領した。
21:35 So they stroke him, and his sons, and all his people, until there was none left him alive: and they possessed his land.
22:1 さて、イスラエルの人々はまた道を進んで、エリコに近いヨルダンのかなたのモアブの平野に宿営した。
22:1 And the children of Israel set forward, and pitched in the plains of Moab on this side Jordan by Jericho.
22:2 チッポルの子バラクはイスラエルがアモリびとにしたすべての事を見たので、
22:2 And Balak the son of Zippor saw all that Israel had done to the Amorites.
22:3 モアブは大いにイスラエルの民を恐れた。その数が多かったためである。モアブはイスラエルの人々をひじょうに恐れたので、
22:3 And Moab was sore afraid of the people, because they were many: and Moab was distressed because of the children of Israel.
22:4 ミデアンの長老たちに言った、「この群衆は牛が野の草をなめつくすように、われわれの周囲の物をみな、なめつくそうとしている」。チッポルの子バラクはこの時モアブの王であった。
22:4 And Moab said unto the elders of Midian, Now shall this company lick up all that are round about us, as the ox licks up the grass of the field. And Balak the son of Zippor was king of the Moabites at that time.
22:5 彼はアンモンびとの国のユフラテ川のほとりにあるペトルに使者をつかわし、ベオルの子バラムを招こうとして言わせた、「エジプトから出てきた民があり、地のおもてをおおってわたしの前にいます。
22:5 He sent messengers therefore unto Balaam the son of Beor to Pethor, which is by the river of the land of the children of his people, to call him, saying, Behold, there is a people come out from Egypt: behold, they cover the face of the earth, and they abide opposite to me:
22:6 どうぞ今きてわたしのためにこの民をのろってください。彼らはわたしよりも強いのです。そうしてくだされば、われわれは彼らを撃って、この国から追い払うことができるかもしれません。あなたが祝福する者は祝福され、あなたがのろう者はのろわれることをわたしは知っています」。
22:6 Come now therefore, I pray you, curse me this people; for they are too mighty for me: possibly I shall prevail, that we may strike them, and that I may drive them out of the land: for I know that he whom you bless is blessed, and he whom you curse is cursed.
22:7 モアブの長老たちとミデアンの長老たちは占いの礼物を手にして出発し、バラムのもとへ行って、バラクの言葉を告げた。
22:7 And the elders of Moab and the elders of Midian departed with the rewards of divination in their hand; and they came unto Balaam, and spoke unto him the words of Balak.
22:8 バラムは彼らに言った、「今夜ここに泊まりなさい。主がわたしに告げられるとおりに、あなたがたに返答しましょう」。それでモアブのつかさたちはバラムのもとにとどまった。
22:8 And he said unto them, Lodge here this night, and I will bring you word again, as the LORD shall speak unto me: and the princes of Moab abode with Balaam.
22:9 ときに神はバラムに臨んで言われた、「あなたのところにいるこの人々はだれですか」。
22:9 And God came unto Balaam, and said, What men are these with you?
22:10 バラムは神に言った、「モアブの王チッポルの子バラクが、わたしに人をよこして言いました。
22:10 And Balaam said unto God, Balak the son of Zippor, king of Moab, has sent unto me, saying,
22:11 『エジプトから出てきた民があり、地のおもてをおおっています。どうぞ今きてわたしのために彼らをのろってください。そうすればわたしは戦って、彼らを追い払うことができるかもしれません』」。
22:11 Behold, there is a people come out of Egypt, which covers the face of the earth: come now, curse me them; possibly I shall be able to overcome them, and drive them out.
22:12 神はバラムに言われた、「あなたは彼らと一緒に行ってはならない。またその民をのろってはならない。彼らは祝福された者だからである」。
22:12 And God said unto Balaam, You shall not go with them; you shall not curse the people: for they are blessed.
22:13 明くる朝起きて、バラムはバラクのつかさたちに言った、「あなたがたは国にお帰りなさい。主はわたしがあなたがたと一緒に行くことを、お許しになりません」。
22:13 And Balaam rose up in the morning, and said unto the princes of Balak, Get you into your land: for the LORD refuses to give me leave to go with you.
22:14 モアブのつかさたちは立ってバラクのもとに行って言った、「バラムはわたしたちと一緒に来ることを承知しません」。
22:14 And the princes of Moab rose up, and they went unto Balak, and said, Balaam refuses to come with us.
22:15 バラクはまた前の者よりも身分の高いつかさたちを前よりも多くつかわした。
22:15 And Balak sent yet again princes, more, and more honourable than they.
22:16 彼らはバラムのところへ行って言った、「チッポルの子バラクはこう申します、『どんな妨げをも顧みず、どうぞわたしのところへおいでください。
22:16 And they came to Balaam, and said to him, Thus says Balak the son of Zippor, Let nothing, I pray you, hinder you from coming unto me:
22:17 わたしはあなたを大いに優遇します。そしてあなたがわたしに言われる事はなんでもいたします。どうぞきてわたしのためにこの民をのろってください』」。
22:17 For I will promote you unto very great honour, and I will do whatsoever you says unto me: come therefore, I pray you, curse me this people.
22:18 しかし、バラムはバラクの家来たちに答えた、「たといバラクがその家に満ちるほどの金銀をわたしに与えようとも、事の大小を問わず、わたしの神、主の言葉を越えては何もすることができません。
22:18 And Balaam answered and said unto the servants of Balak, If Balak would give me his house full of silver and gold, I cannot go beyond the word of the LORD my God, to do less or more.
22:19 それで、どうぞ、あなたがたも今夜ここにとどまって、主がこの上、わたしになんと仰せられるかを確かめさせてください」。
22:19 Now therefore, I pray you, tarry all of you also here this night, that I may know what the LORD will say unto me more.
22:20 夜になり、神はバラムに臨んで言われた、「この人々はあなたを招きにきたのだから、立ってこの人々と一緒に行きなさい。ただしわたしが告げることだけを行わなければならない」。
22:20 And God came unto Balaam at night, and said unto him, If the men come to call you, rise up, and go with them; but yet the word which I shall say unto you, that shall you do.
22:21 明くる朝起きてバラムは、ろばにくらをおき、モアブのつかさたちと一緒に行った。
22:21 And Balaam rose up in the morning, and saddled his ass, and went with the princes of Moab.
22:22 しかるに神は彼が行ったために怒りを発せられ、主の使は彼を妨げようとして、道に立ちふさがっていた。バラムは、ろばに乗り、そのしもべふたりも彼と共にいたが、
22:22 And God's anger was kindled because he went: and the angel of the LORD stood in the way for an adversary against him. Now he was riding upon his ass, and his two servants were with him.
22:23 ろばは主の使が、手に抜き身のつるぎをもって、道に立ちふさがっているのを見、道をそれて畑にはいったので、バラムは、ろばを打って道に返そうとした。
22:23 And the ass saw the angel of the LORD standing in the way, and his sword drawn in his hand: and the ass turned aside out of the way, and went into the field: and Balaam stroke the ass, to turn her into the way.
22:24 しかるに主の使はまたぶどう畑の間の狭い道に立ちふさがっていた。道の両側には石がきがあった。
22:24 But the angel of the LORD stood in a path of the vineyards, a wall being on this side, and a wall on that side.
22:25 ろばは主の使を見て、石がきにすり寄り、バラムの足を石がきに押しつけたので、バラムは、また、ろばを打った。
22:25 And when the ass saw the angel of the LORD, she thrust herself unto the wall, and crushed Balaam's foot against the wall: and he stroke her again.
22:26 主の使はまた先に進んで、狭い所に立ちふさがっていた。そこは右にも左にも、曲る道がなかったので、
22:26 And the angel of the LORD went further, and stood in a narrow place, where was no way to turn either to the right hand or to the left.
22:27 ろばは主の使を見てバラムの下に伏した。そこでバラムは怒りを発し、つえでろばを打った。
22:27 And when the ass saw the angel of the LORD, she fell down under Balaam: and Balaam's anger was kindled, and he stroke the ass with a staff.
22:28 すると、主が、ろばの口を開かれたので、ろばはバラムにむかって言った、「わたしがあなたに何をしたというのですか。あなたは三度もわたしを打ったのです」。
22:28 And the LORD opened the mouth of the ass, and she said unto Balaam, What have I done unto you, that you have smitten me these three times?
22:29 バラムは、ろばに言った、「お前がわたしを侮ったからだ。わたしの手につるぎがあれば、いま、お前を殺してしまうのだが」。
22:29 And Balaam said unto the ass, Because you have mocked me: I would there were a sword in mine hand, for now would I kill you.
22:30 ろばはまたバラムに言った、「わたしはあなたが、きょうまで長いあいだ乗られたろばではありませんか。わたしはいつでも、あなたにこのようにしたでしょうか」。バラムは言った、「いや、しなかった」。
22:30 And the ass said unto Balaam, Am not I yours ass, upon which you have ridden ever since I was yours unto this day? was I ever known to do so unto you? And he said, Nay.
22:31 このとき主がバラムの目を開かれたので、彼は主の使が手に抜き身のつるぎをもって、道に立ちふさがっているのを見て、頭を垂れてひれ伏した。
22:31 Then the LORD opened the eyes of Balaam, and he saw the angel of the LORD standing in the way, and his sword drawn in his hand: and he bowed down his head, and fell flat on his face.
22:32 主の使は彼に言った、「なぜあなたは三度もろばを打ったのか。あなたが誤って道を行くので、わたしはあなたを妨げようとして出てきたのだ。
22:32 And the angel of the LORD said unto him, Wherefore have you smitten yours ass these three times? behold, I went out to withstand you, because your way is perverse before me:
22:33 ろばはわたしを見て三度も身を巡らしてわたしを避けた。もし、ろばが身を巡らしてわたしを避けなかったなら、わたしはきっと今あなたを殺して、ろばを生かしておいたであろう」。
22:33 And the ass saw me, and turned from me these three times: unless she had turned from me, surely now also I had slain you, and saved her alive.
22:34 バラムは主の使に言った、「わたしは罪を犯しました。あなたがわたしをとどめようとして、道に立ちふさがっておられるのを、わたしは知りませんでした。それで今、もし、お気に召さないのであれば、わたしは帰りましょう」。
22:34 And Balaam said unto the angel of the LORD, I have sinned; for I knew not that you stood in the way against me: now therefore, if it displease you, I will get me back again.
22:35 主の使はバラムに言った、「この人々と一緒に行きなさい。ただし、わたしが告げることのみを述べなければならない」。こうしてバラムはバラクのつかさたちと一緒に行った。
22:35 And the angel of the LORD said unto Balaam, Go with the men: but only the word that I shall speak unto you, that you shall speak. So Balaam went with the princes of Balak.
22:36 さて、バラクはバラムがきたと聞いて、国境のアルノン川のほとり、国境の一端にあるモアブの町まで出て行って迎えた。
22:36 And when Balak heard that Balaam was come, he went out to meet him unto a city of Moab, which is in the border of Arnon, which is in the utmost coast.
22:37 そしてバラクはバラムに言った、「わたしは人をつかわしてあなたを招いたではありませんか。あなたはなぜわたしのところへきませんでしたか。わたしは実際あなたを優遇することができないでしょうか」。
22:37 And Balak said unto Balaam, Did I not earnestly send unto you to call you? wherefore came you not unto me? am I not able indeed to promote you to honour?
22:38 バラムはバラクに言った、「ごらんなさい。わたしはあなたのところにきています。しかし、今、何事かをみずから言うことができましょうか。わたしはただ神がわたしの口に授けられることを述べなければなりません」。
22:38 And Balaam said unto Balak, Lo, I am come unto you: have I now any power at all to say any thing? the word that God puts in my mouth, that shall I speak.
22:39 こうしてバラムはバラクと一緒に行き、キリアテ・ホゾテにきたとき、
22:39 And Balaam went with Balak, and they came unto Kirjathhuzoth.
22:40 バラクは牛と羊とをほふって、バラムおよび彼と共にいたバラムを連れてきたつかさたちに贈った。
22:40 And Balak offered oxen and sheep, and sent to Balaam, and to the princes that were with him.
22:41 明くる朝バラクはバラムを伴ってバモテバアルにのぼり、そこからイスラエルの民の宿営の一端をながめさせた。
22:41 And it came to pass on the next day, that Balak took Balaam, and brought him up into the high places of Baal, that thence he might see the utmost part of the people.
23:1 バラムはバラクに言った、「わたしのために、ここに七つの祭壇を築き、七頭の雄牛と七頭の雄羊とを整えなさい」。
23:1 And Balaam said unto Balak, Build me here seven altars, and prepare me here seven oxen and seven rams.
23:2 バラクはバラムの言ったとおりにした。そしてバラクとバラムとは、その祭壇ごとに雄牛一頭と雄羊一頭とをささげた。
23:2 And Balak did as Balaam had spoken; and Balak and Balaam offered on every altar a bullock and a ram.
23:3 バラムはバラクに言った、「あなたは燔祭のかたわらに立っていてください。その間にわたしは行ってきます。主はたぶんわたしに会ってくださるでしょう。そして、主がわたしに示される事はなんでもあなたに告げましょう」。こうして彼は一つのはげ山に登った。
23:3 And Balaam said unto Balak, Stand by your burnt offering, and I will go: possibly the LORD will come to meet me: and whatsoever he shows me I will tell you. And he went to an high place.
23:4 神がバラムに会われたので、バラムは神に言った、「わたしは七つの祭壇を設け、祭壇ごとに雄牛一頭と雄羊一頭とをささげました」。
23:4 And God met Balaam: and he said unto him, I have prepared seven altars, and I have offered upon every altar a bullock and a ram.
23:5 主はバラムの口に言葉を授けて言われた、「バラクのもとに帰ってこう言いなさい」。
23:5 And the LORD put a word in Balaam's mouth, and said, Return unto Balak, and thus you shall speak.
23:6 彼がバラクのもとに帰ってみると、バラクはモアブのすべてのつかさたちと共に燔祭のかたわらに立っていた。
23:6 And he returned unto him, and, lo, he stood by his burnt sacrifice, he, and all the princes of Moab.
23:7 バラムはこの託宣を述べた。「バラクはわたしをアラムから招き寄せ、／モアブの王はわたしを東の山から招き寄せて言う、／『きてわたしのためにヤコブをのろえ、きてイスラエルをのろえ』と。
23:7 And he took up his parable, and said, Balak the king of Moab has brought me from Aram, out of the mountains of the east, saying, Come, curse me Jacob, and come, defy Israel.
23:8 神ののろわない者を、わたしがどうしてのろえよう。主ののろわない者を、わたしがどうしてのろえよう。
23:8 How shall I curse, whom God has not cursed? or how shall I defy, whom the LORD has not defied?
23:9 岩の頂からながめ、／丘の上から見たが、／これはひとり離れて住む民、／もろもろの国民のうちに並ぶものはない。
23:9 For from the top of the rocks I see him, and from the hills I behold him: lo, the people shall dwell alone, and shall not be reckoned among the nations.
23:10 だれがヤコブの群衆を数え、／イスラエルの無数の民を数え得よう。わたしは義人のように死に、／わたしの終りは彼らの終りのようでありたい」。
23:10 Who can count the dust of Jacob, and the number of the fourth part of Israel? Let me die the death of the righteous, and let my last end be like his!
23:11 そこでバラクはバラムに言った、「あなたはわたしに何をするのですか。わたしは敵をのろうために、あなたを招いたのに、あなたはかえって敵を祝福するばかりです」。
23:11 And Balak said unto Balaam, What have you done unto me? I took you to curse mine enemies, and, behold, you have blessed them altogether.
23:12 バラムは答えた、「わたしは、主がわたしの口に授けられる事だけを語るように注意すべきではないでしょうか」。
23:12 And he answered and said, Must I not take heed to speak that which the LORD has put in my mouth?
23:13 バラクは彼に言った、「わたしと一緒にほかのところへ行って、そこから彼らをごらんください。あなたはただ彼らの一端を見るだけで、全体を見ることはできないでしょうが、そこからわたしのために彼らをのろってください」。
23:13 And Balak said unto him, Come, I pray you, with me unto another place, from whence you may see them: you shall see but the utmost part of them, and shall not see them all: and curse me them from thence.
23:14 そして彼はバラムを連れてゾピムの野に行き、ピスガの頂に登って、そこに七つの祭壇を築き、祭壇ごとに雄牛一頭と雄羊一頭とをささげた。
23:14 And he brought him into the field of Zophim, to the top of Pisgah, and built seven altars, and offered a bullock and a ram on every altar.
23:15 ときにはバラムはバラクに言った、「あなたはここで、燔祭のかたわらに立っていてください。わたしは向こうへ行って、主に伺いますから」。
23:15 And he said unto Balak, Stand here by your burnt offering, while I meet the LORD yonder.
23:16 主はバラムに臨み、言葉を口に授けて言われた、「バラクのもとに帰ってこう言いなさい」。
23:16 And the LORD met Balaam, and put a word in his mouth, and said, Go again unto Balak, and say thus.
23:17 彼がバラクのところへ行って見ると、バラクは燔祭のかたわらに立ち、モアブのつかさたちも共にいた。バラクはバラムに言った、「主はなんと言われましたか」。
23:17 And when he came to him, behold, he stood by his burnt offering, and the princes of Moab with him. And Balak said unto him, What has the LORD spoken?
23:18 そこでバラムはまたこの託宣を述べた。「バラクよ、立って聞け、／チッポルの子よ、わたしに耳を傾けよ。
23:18 And he took up his parable, and said, Rise up, Balak, and hear; hearken unto me, you son of Zippor:
23:19 神は人のように偽ることはなく、／また人の子のように悔いることもない。言ったことで、行わないことがあろうか、／語ったことで、しとげないことがあろうか。
23:19 God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: has he said, and shall he not do it? or has he spoken, and shall he not make it good?
23:20 祝福せよとの命をわたしはうけた、／すでに神が祝福されたものを、／わたしは変えることができない。
23:20 Behold, I have received commandment to bless: and he has blessed; and I cannot reverse it.
23:21 だれもヤコブのうちに災のあるのを見ない、／またイスラエルのうちに悩みのあるのを見ない。彼らの神、主が共にいまし、／王をたたえる声がその中に聞える。
23:21 He has not beheld iniquity in Jacob, neither has he seen perverseness in Israel: the LORD his God is with him, and the shout of a king is among them.
23:22 神は彼らをエジプトから導き出された、／彼らは野牛の角のようだ。
23:22 God brought them out of Egypt; he has as it were the strength of an unicorn (p. ox).
23:23 ヤコブには魔術がなく、／イスラエルには占いがない。神がそのなすところを時に応じてヤコブに告げ、／イスラエルに示されるからだ。
23:23 Surely there is no enchantment against Jacob, neither is there any divination against Israel: according to this time it shall be said of Jacob and of Israel, What has God wrought!
23:24 見よ、この民は雌じしのように立ち上がり、／雄じしのように身を起す。これはその獲物を食らい、／その殺した者の血を飲むまでは身を横たえない」。
23:24 Behold, the people shall rise up as a great lion, and lift up himself as a young lion: he shall not lie down until he eat of the prey, and drink the blood of the slain.
23:25 バラクはバラムに言った、「あなたは彼らをのろうことも祝福することも、やめてください」。
23:25 And Balak said unto Balaam, Neither curse them at all, nor bless them at all.
23:26 バラムは答えてバラクに言った、「主の言われることは、なんでもしなければならないと、わたしはあなたに告げませんでしたか」。
23:26 But Balaam answered and said unto Balak, Told not I you, saying, All that the LORD speaks, that I must do?
23:27 バラクはバラムに言った、「どうぞ、おいでください。わたしはあなたをほかの所へお連れしましょう。神はあなたがそこからわたしのために彼らをのろうことを許されるかもしれません」。
23:27 And Balak said unto Balaam, Come, I pray you, I will bring you unto another place; possibly it will please God that you may curse me them from thence.
23:28 そしてバラクはバラムを連れて、荒野を見おろすペオルの頂に行った。
23:28 And Balak brought Balaam unto the top of Peor, that looks toward Jeshimon.
23:29 バラムはバラクに言った、「わたしのためにここに七つの祭壇を築き、雄牛七頭と、雄羊七頭とを整えなさい」。
23:29 And Balaam said unto Balak, Build me here seven altars, and prepare me here seven bullocks and seven rams.
23:30 バラクはバラムの言ったとおりにし、その祭壇ごとに雄牛一頭と雄羊一頭とをささげた。
23:30 And Balak did as Balaam had said, and offered a bullock and a ram on every altar.
24:1 バラムはイスラエルを祝福することが主の心にかなうのを見たので、今度はいつものように行って魔術を求めることをせず、顔を荒野にむけ、
24:1 And when Balaam saw that it pleased the LORD to bless Israel, he went not, as at other times, to seek for enchantments, but he set his face toward the wilderness.
24:2 目を上げて、イスラエルがそれぞれ部族にしたがって宿営しているのを見た。その時、神の霊が臨んだので、
24:2 And Balaam lifted up his eyes, and he saw Israel abiding in his tents according to their tribes; and the spirit of God came upon him.
24:3 彼はこの託宣を述べた。「ベオルの子バラムの言葉、／目を閉じた人の言葉、
24:3 And he took up his parable, and said, Balaam the son of Beor has said, and the man whose eyes are open has said:
24:4 神の言葉を聞く者、／全能者の幻を見る者、／倒れ伏して、目の開かれた者の言葉。
24:4 He has said, which heard the words of God, which saw the vision of the Almighty, falling into a trance, but having his eyes open:
24:5 ヤコブよ、あなたの天幕は麗しい、／イスラエルよ、あなたのすまいは、麗しい。
24:5 How goodly are your tents, O Jacob, and your tabernacles, O Israel!
24:6 それは遠くひろがる谷々のよう、／川べの園のよう、／主が植えられた沈香樹のよう、／流れのほとりの香柏のようだ。
24:6 As the valleys are they spread forth, as gardens by the river's side, as the trees of lign aloes which the LORD has planted, and as cedar trees beside the waters.
24:7 水は彼らのかめからあふれ、／彼らの種は水の潤いに育つであろう。彼らの王はアガグよりも高くなり、／彼らの国はあがめられるであろう。
24:7 He shall pour the water out of his buckets, and his seed shall be in many waters, and his king shall be higher than Agag, and his kingdom shall be exalted.
24:8 神は彼らをエジプトから導き出された、／彼らは野牛の角のようだ。彼らは敵なる国々の民を滅ぼし、／その骨を砕き、／矢をもって突き通すであろう。
24:8 God brought him forth out of Egypt; he has as it were the strength of an unicorn (p. ox): he shall eat up the nations his enemies, and shall break their bones, and pierce them through with his arrows.
24:9 彼らは雄じしのように身をかがめ、／雌じしのように伏している。だれが彼らを起しえよう。あなたを祝福する者は祝福され、／あなたをのろう者はのろわれるであろう」。
24:9 He couched, he lay down as a lion, and as a great lion: who shall stir him up? Blessed is he that blesses you, and cursed is he that curses you.
24:10 そこでバラクはバラムにむかって怒りを発し、手を打ち鳴らした。そしてバラクはバラムに言った、「敵をのろうために招いたのに、あなたはかえって三度までも彼らを祝福した。
24:10 And Balak's anger was kindled against Balaam, and he stroke his hands together: and Balak said unto Balaam, I called you to curse mine enemies, and, behold, you have altogether blessed them these three times.
24:11 それで今あなたは急いで自分のところへ帰ってください。わたしはあなたを大いに優遇しようと思った。しかし、主はその優遇をあなたに得させないようにされました」。
24:11 Therefore now flee you to your place: I thought to promote you unto great honour; but, lo, the LORD has kept you back from honour.
24:12 バラムはバラクに言った、「わたしはあなたがつかわされた使者たちに言ったではありませんか、
24:12 And Balaam said unto Balak, Spoke I not also to your messengers which you sent unto me, saying,
24:13 『たといバラクがその家に満ちるほどの金銀をわたしに与えようとも、主の言葉を越えて心のままに善も悪も行うことはできません。わたしは主の言われることを述べるだけです』。
24:13 If Balak would give me his house full of silver and gold, I cannot go beyond the commandment of the LORD, to do either good or bad of mine own mind; but what the LORD says, that will I speak?
24:14 わたしは今わたしの民のところへ帰って行きます。それでわたしはこの民が後の日にあなたの民にどんなことをするかをお知らせしましょう」。
24:14 And now, behold, I go unto my people: come therefore, and I will advertise you what this people shall do to your people in the latter days.
24:15 そしてこの託宣を述べた。「ベオルの子バラムの言葉、／目を閉じた人の言葉。
24:15 And he took up his parable, and said, Balaam the son of Beor has said, and the man whose eyes are open has said:
24:16 神の言葉を聞く者、／いと高き者の知識をもつ者、／全能者の幻を見、／倒れ伏して、目の開かれた者の言葉。
24:16 He has said, which heard the words of God, and knew the knowledge of the most High, which saw the vision of the Almighty, falling into a trance, but having his eyes open:
24:17 わたしは彼を見る、しかし今ではない。わたしは彼を望み見る、しかし近くではない。ヤコブから一つの星が出、／イスラエルから一本のつえが起り、／モアブのこめかみと、／セツのすべての子らの脳天を撃つであろう。
24:17 I shall see him, but not now: I shall behold him, but not nigh: there shall come a Star out of Jacob, and a Sceptre shall rise out of Israel, and shall strike the corners of Moab, and destroy all the children of Sheth.
24:18 敵のエドムは領地となり、／セイルもまた領地となるであろう。そしてイスラエルは勝利を得るであろう。
24:18 And Edom shall be a possession, Seir also shall be a possession for his enemies; and Israel shall do valiantly.
24:19 権を執る者がヤコブから出、／生き残った者を町から断ち滅ぼすであろう」。
24:19 Out of Jacob shall come he that shall have dominion, and shall destroy him that remains of the city.
24:20 バラムはまたアマレクを望み見て、この託宣を述べた。「アマレクは諸国民のうちの最初のもの、／しかし、ついに滅び去るであろう」。
24:20 And when he looked on Amalek, he took up his parable, and said, Amalek was the first of the nations; but his latter end shall be that he perish for ever.
24:21 またケニびとを望み見てこの託宣を述べた。「お前のすみかは堅固だ、／岩に、お前は巣をつくっている。
24:21 And he looked on the Kenites, and took up his parable, and said, Strong is your dwelling place, and you put your nest in a rock.
24:22 しかし、カインは滅ぼされるであろう。アシュルはいつまでお前を捕虜とするであろうか」。
24:22 Nevertheless the Kenite shall be wasted, until Asshur shall carry you away captive.
24:23 彼はまたこの託宣を述べた。「ああ、神が定められた以上、／だれが生き延びることができよう。
24:23 And he took up his parable, and said, Alas, who shall live when God does this!
24:24 キッテムの海岸から舟がきて、／アシュルを攻めなやまし、／エベルを攻めなやますであろう。そして彼もまたついに滅び去るであろう」。
24:24 And ships shall come from the coast of Chittim, and shall afflict Asshur, and shall afflict Eber, and he also shall perish for ever.
24:25 こうしてバラムは立ち上がって、自分のところへ帰っていった。バラクもまた立ち去った。
24:25 And Balaam rose up, and went and returned to his place: and Balak also went his way.
