1:1 神と主イエス・キリストの僕ヤコブから、離散している十二部族の人々へ、あいさつをおくる。
1:1 James, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ, to the twelve tribes which are scattered abroad, greeting.
1:2 わたしの兄弟たちよ。あなたがたが、いろいろな試練に会った場合、それをむしろ非常に喜ばしいことと思いなさい。
1:2 My brethren, count it all joy when all of you fall into divers temptations;
1:3 あなたがたの知っているとおり、信仰がためされることによって、忍耐が生み出されるからである。
1:3 Knowing this, that the trying of your faith works patience.
1:4 だから、なんら欠点のない、完全な、でき上がった人となるように、その忍耐力を十分に働かせるがよい。
1:4 But let patience have her perfect work, that all of you may be perfect and entire, lacking nothing.
1:5 あなたがたのうち、知恵に不足している者があれば、その人は、とがめもせず惜しみなくすべての人に与える神に、願い求めるがよい。そうすれば、与えられるであろう。
1:5 If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that gives to all men liberally, and reproaches not; and it shall be given him.
1:6 ただ、疑わないで、信仰をもって願い求めなさい。疑う人は、風の吹くままに揺れ動く海の波に似ている。
1:6 But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavers is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed.
1:7 そういう人は、主から何かをいただけるもののように思うべきではない。
1:7 For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord.
1:8 そんな人間は、二心の者であって、そのすべての行動に安定がない。
1:8 A double minded man is unstable in all his ways.
1:9 低い身分の兄弟は、自分が高くされたことを喜びなさい。
1:9 Let the brother of low degree rejoice in that he is exalted:
1:10 また、富んでいる者は、自分が低くされたことを喜ぶがよい。富んでいる者は、草花のように過ぎ去るからである。
1:10 But the rich, in that he is made low: because as the flower of the grass he shall pass away.
1:11 たとえば、太陽が上って熱風をおくると、草を枯らす。そしてその花は落ち、その美しい姿は消えうせてしまう。それと同じように、富んでいる者も、その一生の旅のなかばで没落するであろう。
1:11 For the sun is no sooner risen with a burning heat, but it withers the grass, and the flower thereof falls, and the grace of the fashion of it perishes: so also shall the rich man fade away in his ways.
1:12 試練を堪え忍ぶ人は、さいわいである。それを忍びとおしたなら、神を愛する者たちに約束されたいのちの冠を受けるであろう。
1:12 Blessed is the man that endures temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord has promised to them that love him.
1:13 だれでも誘惑に会う場合、「この誘惑は、神からきたものだ」と言ってはならない。神は悪の誘惑に陥るようなかたではなく、また自ら進んで人を誘惑することもなさらない。
1:13 Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempts he any man:
1:14 人が誘惑に陥るのは、それぞれ、欲に引かれ、さそわれるからである。
1:14 But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed.
1:15 欲がはらんで罪を生み、罪が熟して死を生み出す。
1:15 Then when lust has conceived, it brings forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, brings forth death.
1:16 愛する兄弟たちよ。思い違いをしてはいけない。
1:16 Do not go astray, my beloved brethren.
1:17 あらゆる良い贈り物、あらゆる完全な賜物は、上から、光の父から下ってくる。父には、変化とか回転の影とかいうものはない。
1:17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.
1:18 父は、わたしたちを、いわば被造物の初穂とするために、真理の言葉によって御旨のままに、生み出して下さったのである。
1:18 Of his own will brings forth he us with the word (o. logos) of truth, that we should be a kind of first-fruits of his creatures.
1:19 愛する兄弟たちよ。このことを知っておきなさい。人はすべて、聞くに早く、語るにおそく、怒るにおそくあるべきである。
1:19 Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath:
1:20 人の怒りは、神の義を全うするものではないからである。
1:20 For the wrath of man works not the righteousness of God.
1:21 だから、すべての汚れや、はなはだしい悪を捨て去って、心に植えつけられている御言を、すなおに受け入れなさい。御言には、あなたがたのたましいを救う力がある。
1:21 Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and abundance of evil, and receive with meekness the implanted word, (o. logos) which is able to save your souls.
1:22 そして、御言を行う人になりなさい。おのれを欺いて、ただ聞くだけの者となってはいけない。
1:22 But be all of you doers of the word, (o. logos) and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.
1:23 おおよそ御言を聞くだけで行わない人は、ちょうど、自分の生まれつきの顔を鏡に映して見る人のようである。
1:23 For if any be a hearer of the word, (o. logos) and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass:
1:24 彼が自分を写してみてそこから立ち去ると、そのとたん、彼は自分の姿がどんなであったかを忘れてしまう。
1:24 For he beholds himself, and goes his way, and immediately forgets what manner of man he was.
1:25 これに反して、完全な自由の律法を一心に見つめてたゆまない人は、聞きいれて忘れてしまう人ではなくて、実際に行う人である。こういう人は、その行いによって祝福される。
1:25 But whoso looks into the perfect law of liberty, and continues therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.
1:26 もし人が信心深い者だと自任しながら、舌を制することをせず、自分の心を欺いているならば、その人の信心はむなしいものである。
1:26 If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridles not his tongue, but deceives his own heart, this man's religion is vain.
1:27 父なる神のみまえに清く汚れのない信心とは、困っている孤児や、やもめを見舞い、自らは世の汚れに染まらずに、身を清く保つことにほかならない。
1:27 Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.
2:1 わたしの兄弟たちよ。わたしたちの栄光の主イエス・キリストへの信仰を守るために、分け隔てをしてはならない。
2:1 My brethren, have not the faith of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Lord of glory, with respect of persons.
2:2 たとえば、あなたがたの会堂に、金の指輪をはめ、りっぱな着物を着た人とがはいって来ると同時に、みすぼらしい着物を着た貧しい人がはいってきたとする。
2:2 For if there come unto your assembly a man with a gold ring, in goodly apparel, and there come in also a poor man in vile raiment;
2:3 その際、立派な着物を着た人に対しては、うやうやしく「どうぞ、こちらの良い席にお掛け下さい」と言い、貧しい人には、「あなたは、そこに立っていなさい。それとも、わたしの足もとにすわっているがよい」と言ったとしたら、
2:3 And all of you have respect to him that wears the cheerful clothing, and say unto him, Sit you here in a good place; and say to the poor, Stand you there, or sit here under my footstool:
2:4 あなたがたは、自分たちの間で差別立てをし、よからぬ考えで人をさばく者になったわけではないか。
2:4 Are all of you not then partial in yourselves, and are become judges of evil thoughts?
2:5 愛する兄弟たちよ。よく聞きなさい。神は、この世の貧しい人たちを選んで信仰に富ませ、神を愛する者たちに約束された御国の相続者とされたではないか。
2:5 Hearken, my beloved brethren, Has not God chosen the poor of this world rich in faith, and heirs of the kingdom which he has promised to them that love him?
2:6 しかるに、あなたがたは貧しい人をはずかしめたのである。あなたがたをしいたげ、裁判所に引きずり込むのは、富んでいる者たちではないか。
2:6 But all of you have despised the poor. Do not rich men oppress you, and draw you before the judgment seats?
2:7 あなたがたに対して唱えられた尊い御名を汚すのは、実に彼らではないか。
2:7 Do not they blaspheme that worthy name by the which all of you are called?
2:8 しかし、もしあなたがたが、「自分を愛するように、あなたの隣り人を愛せよ」という聖書の言葉に従って、このきわめて尊い律法を守るならば、それは良いことである。
2:8 If all of you fulfill the royal law according to the scripture, You shall love your neighbour as yourself, all of you do well:
2:9 しかし、もし分け隔てをするならば、あなたがたは罪を犯すことになり、律法によって違反者として宣告される。
2:9 But if all of you have respect to persons, all of you commit sin, and are convinced of the law as transgressors.
2:10 なぜなら、律法をことごとく守ったとしても、その一つの点にでも落ち度があれば、全体を犯したことになるからである。
2:10 For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all.
2:11 たとえば、「姦淫するな」と言われたかたは、また「殺すな」とも仰せになった。そこで、たとい姦淫はしなくても、人殺しをすれば、律法の違反者になったことになる。
2:11 For he that said, Do not commit adultery, said also, Do not kill. Now if you commit no adultery, yet if you kill, you are become a transgressor of the law.
2:12 だから、自由の律法によってさばかれるべき者らしく語り、かつ行いなさい。
2:12 So speak all of you, and so do, as they that shall be judged by the law of liberty.
2:13 あわれみを行わなかった者に対しては、仮借のないさばきが下される。あわれみは、さばきにうち勝つ。
2:13 For he shall have judgment without mercy, that has showed no mercy; and mercy rejoices against judgment.
2:14 わたしの兄弟たちよ。ある人が自分には信仰があると称していても、もし行いがなかったら、なんの役に立つか。その信仰は彼を救うことができるか。
2:14 What does it profit, my brethren, though a man say he has faith, and have not works? can faith save him?
2:15 ある兄弟または姉妹が裸でいて、その日の食物にもこと欠いている場合、
2:15 If a brother or sister be naked, and destitute of daily food,
2:16 あなたがたのうち、だれかが、「安らかに行きなさい。暖まって、食べ飽きなさい」と言うだけで、そのからだに必要なものを何ひとつ与えなかったとしたら、なんの役に立つか。
2:16 And one of you say unto them, Depart in peace, be all of you warmed and filled; notwithstanding all of you give them not those things which are necessary to the body; what does it profit?
2:17 信仰も、それと同様に、行いを伴わなければ、それは死んだものである。
2:17 Even so faith, if it has not works, is dead, being alone.
2:18 しかし、「ある人には信仰があり、またほかの人には行いがある「と言う者があろう。それなら、行いのないあなたの信仰なるものを見せてほしい。そうしたら、そうしたら、わたしの行いによって信仰を見せてあげよう。
2:18 Yea, a man may say, You have faith, and I have works: show me your faith without your works, and I will show you my faith by my works.
2:19 あなたは、神はただひとりであると信じているのか。それは結構である。悪霊どもでさえ、信じておののいている。
2:19 You believe that there is one God; you do well: the devils also believe, and tremble.
2:20 ああ、愚かな人よ。行いを伴わない信仰のむなしいことを知りたいのか。
2:20 But will you know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead?
2:21 わたしたちの父祖アブラハムは、その子イサクを祭壇にささげたとき、その行いによって義とされたのではなかったか。
2:21 Was not Abraham our father justified by works, when he had offered Isaac his son upon the altar?
2:22 あなたがたの知っているとおり、彼においては、信仰が行いと共に働き、その行いによって信仰が全うされ、
2:22 See you how faith wrought with his works, and by works was faith made perfect?
2:23 こうして、「アブラハムは神を信じた。それによって、彼は義と認められた」という聖書の言葉が成就し、そして、彼は「神の友」と唱えられたのである。
2:23 And the scripture was fulfilled which says, Abraham believed God, and it was imputed unto him for righteousness: and he was called the Friend of God.
2:24 これでわかるように、人が義とされるのは、行いによるものであって、信仰だけによるのではない。
2:24 All of you see then how that by works a man is justified, and not by faith only.
2:25 同じように、かの遊女ラハブでさえも、使者たちをもてなし、彼らを別な道から送り出した時、行いによって義とされたのではないか。
2:25 Likewise also was not Rahab the harlot justified by works, when she had received the messengers, and had sent them out another way?
2:26 霊魂のないからだが死んだものであると同様に、行いのない信仰も死んだものなのである。
2:26 For as the body without the spirit (o. pneuma) is dead, so faith without works is dead also.
3:1 わたしの兄弟たちよ。あなたがたのうちの多くの者は、教師にならないがよい。わたしたち教師が、他の人たちよりも、もっときびしいさばきを受けることが、よくわかっているからである。
3:1 My brethren, be not many masters, knowing that we shall receive the greater condemnation.
3:2 わたしたちは皆、多くのあやまちを犯すものである。もし、言葉の上であやまちのない人があれば、そういう人は、全身を制御することのできる完全な人である。
3:2 For in many things we offend all. If any man offend not in word, (o. logos) the same is a perfect man, and able also to bridle the whole body.
3:3 馬を御するために、その口にくつわをはめるなら、その全身を引きまわすことができる。
3:3 Behold, we put bits in the horses' mouths, that they may obey us; and we turn about their whole body.
3:4 また船を見るがよい。船体が非常に大きく、また激しい風に吹きまくられても、ごく小さなかじ一つで、操縦者の思いのままに運転される。
3:4 Behold also the ships, which though they be so great, and are driven of fierce winds, yet are they turned about with a very small helm, anywhere the governor decides.
3:5 それと同じく、舌は小さな器官ではあるが、よく体言壮語する。見よ、ごく小さな火でも、非常に大きな森を燃やすではないか。
3:5 Even so the tongue is a little member, and boasts great things. Behold, how great a matter a little fire kindles!
3:6 舌は火である。不義の世界である。舌は、わたしたちの器官の一つとしてそなえられたものであるが、全身を汚し、生存の車輪を燃やし、自らは地獄の火で焼かれる。
3:6 And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defiles the whole body, and sets on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire of hell.
3:7 あらゆる種類の獣、鳥、這うもの、海の生物は、すべて人類に制せられるし、また制せられてきた。
3:7 For every kind of beasts, and of birds, and of serpents, and of things in the sea, is tamed, and has been tamed of mankind:
3:8 ところが、舌を制しうる人は、ひとりもいない。それは、制しにくい悪であって、死の毒に満ちている。
3:8 But the tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison.
3:9 わたしたちは、この舌で父なる主をさんびし、また、その同じ舌で、神にかたどって造られた人間をのろっている。
3:9 Therewith bless we God, even the Father; and therewith curse we men, which are made after the embodiment of God.
3:10 同じ口から、さんびとのろいとが出て来る。わたしの兄弟たちよ。このような事は、あるべきでない。
3:10 Out of the same mouth proceeds blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not so to be.
3:11 泉が、甘い水と苦い水とを、同じ穴からふき出すことがあろうか。
3:11 Does a fountain send forth at the same place sweet water and bitter?
3:12 わたしの兄弟たちよ。いちじくの木がオリブの実を結び、ぶどうの木がいちじくの実を結ぶことができようか。塩水も、甘い水を出すことはできない。
3:12 Can the fig tree, my brethren, bear olive berries? either a vine, figs? so can no fountain both yield salt water and fresh.
3:13 あなたがたのうちで、知恵があり物わかりのよい人は、だれであるか。その人は、知恵にかなう柔和な行いをしていることを、よい生活によって示すがよい。
3:13 Who is a wise man and imbued with knowledge among you? let him show out of a good conversation his works with meekness of wisdom.
3:14 しかし、もしあなたがたの心の中に、苦々しいねたみや党派心をいだいているのなら、誇り高ぶってはならない。また、真理にそむいて偽ってはならない。
3:14 But if all of you have bitter envying and strife in your hearts, glory not, and lie not against the truth.
3:15 そのような知恵は、上から下ってきたものではなくて、地につくもの、肉に属するもの、悪魔的なものである。
3:15 This wisdom descends not from above, but is earthly, sensual, devilish.
3:16 ねたみと党派心とのあるところには、混乱とあらゆる忌むべき行為とがある。
3:16 For where envying and strife is, there is confusion and every evil work.
3:17 しかし上からの知恵は、第一に清く、次に平和、寛容、温順であり、あわれみと良い実とに満ち、かたより見ず、偽りがない。
3:17 But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be implored, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy.
3:18 義の実は、平和を造り出す人たちによって、平和のうちにまかれるものである。
3:18 And the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace of them that make peace.
4:1 あなたがたの中の戦いや争いは、いったい、どこから起きるのか。それはほかではない。あなたがたの肢体の中で相戦う欲情からではないか。
4:1 From whence come wars and fightings among you? come they not behind, even of your lusts that war in your members?
4:2 あなたがたは、むさぼるが得られない。そこで人殺しをする。熱望するが手に入れることができない。そこで争い戦う。あなたがたには、求めないから得られないのだ。
4:2 All of you lust, and have not: all of you kill, and desire to have, and cannot obtain: all of you fight and war, yet all of you have not, because all of you ask not.
4:3 求めても与えられないのは、快楽のために使おうとして、悪い求め方をするからだ。
4:3 All of you ask, and receive not, because all of you ask amiss, that all of you may consume it upon your lusts.
4:4 不貞のやからよ。世を友とするのは、神への敵対であることを、知らないのか。おおよそ世の友となろうと思う者は、自らを神の敵とするのである。
4:4 All of you adulterers and adulteresses, know all of you not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God.
4:5 それとも、「神は、わたしたちの内に住まわれた霊を、ねたむほど愛しておられる」と聖書に書いてあるのは、むなしい言葉だと思うのか。
4:5 Do all of you think that the scripture says in vain, The spirit (o. pneuma) that dwells in us lusts to envy?
4:6 しかし神は、いや増しに恵みを賜う。であるから、「神は高ぶる者をしりぞけ、へりくだる者に恵みを賜う」とある。
4:6 But he gives more grace. Wherefore he says, God resists the proud, but gives grace unto the humble.
4:7 そういうわけだから、神に従いなさい。そして、悪魔に立ちむかいなさい。そうすれば、彼はあなたがたから逃げ去るであろう。
4:7 Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
4:8 神に近づきなさい。そうすれば、神はあなたがたに近づいて下さるであろう。罪人どもよ、手をきよめよ。二心の者どもよ、心を清くせよ。
4:8 Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, all of you sinners; and purify your hearts, all of you double minded.
4:9 苦しめ、悲しめ、泣け。あなたがたの笑いを悲しみに、喜びを憂いに変えよ。
4:9 Be afflicted, and mourn, and weep: let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to heaviness.
4:10 主のみまえにへりくだれ。そうすれば、主はあなたがたを高くして下さるであろう。
4:10 Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.
4:11 兄弟たちよ。互いに悪口を言い合ってはならない。兄弟の悪口を言ったり、自分の兄弟をさばいたりする者は、律法をそしり、律法をさばくやからである。もしあなたが律法をさばくなら、律法の実行者ではなくて、その審判者なのである。
4:11 Speak not evil one of another, brethren. He that speaks evil of his brother, and judges his brother, speaks evil of the law, and judges the law: but if you judge the law, you are not a doer of the law, but a judge.
4:12 しかし、律法者であり審判者であるかたは、ただひとりであって、救うことも滅ぼすこともできるのである。しかるに、隣り人をさばくあなたは、いったい、何者であるか。
4:12 There is one lawgiver, who is able to save and to destroy: who are you that judge another?
4:13 よく聞きなさい。「きょうか、あす、これこれの町へ行き、そこに一か年滞在し、商売をして一もうけしよう」と言う者たちよ。
4:13 Go to now, all of you that say, To day or tomorrow we will go into such a city, and continue there a year, and buy and sell, and get gain:
4:14 あなたがたは、あすのこともわからぬ身なのだ。あなたがたのいのちは、どんなものであるか。あなたがたは、しばしの間あらわれて、たちまち消えて行く霧にすぎない。
4:14 Whereas all of you know not what shall be on the next day. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appears for a little time, and then vanishes away.
4:15 むしろ、あなたがたは「主のみこころであれば、わたしは生きながらえもし、あの事この事もしよう」と言うべきである。
4:15 For that all of you ought to say, If the Lord will, we shall live, and do this, or that.
4:16 ところが、あなたがたは誇り高ぶっている。このような高慢は、すべて悪である。人が、なすべき善を知りながら行わなければ、それは彼にとって罪である。
4:16 But now all of you rejoice in your boastings: all such rejoicing is evil.
4:17 Therefore to him that knows to do good, and does it not, to him it is sin.
5:1 富んでいる人たちよ。よく聞きなさい。あなたがたは、自分の身に降りかかろうとしているわざわいを思って、泣き叫ぶがよい。
5:1 Go to now, all of you rich men, weep and wail for your miseries that shall come upon you.
5:2 あなたがたの富は朽ち果て、着物はむしばまれ、
5:2 Your riches are corrupted, and your garments are moth-eaten.
5:3 金銀はさびている。そして、そのさびの毒は、あなたがたの罪を責め、あなたがたの肉を火のように食いつくすであろう。あなたがたは、終わりの時にいるのに、なお宝をたくわえている。
5:3 Your gold and silver is cankered; and the rust of them shall be a witness against you, and shall eat your flesh as it were fire. All of you have heaped treasure together for the last days.
5:4 見よ、あなたがたが労働者たちに畑の刈入れをさせながら、支払わずにいる賃銀が、叫んでいる。そして、刈入れをした人たちの叫び声が、すでに万軍の主の耳に達している。
5:4 Behold, the hire of the labourers who have reaped down your fields, which is of you kept back by fraud, cries: and the cries of them which have reaped are entered into the ears of the Lord of sabaoth.
5:5 あなたがたは、地上でおごり暮らし、快楽にふけり、「ほふられる日」のために、おのが心を肥やしている。
5:5 All of you have lived in pleasure on the earth, and been wanton; all of you have nourished your hearts, as in a day of slaughter.
5:6 そして、義人を罪に定め、これを殺した。しかも彼は、あなたがたに抵抗しない。
5:6 All of you have condemned and killed the just; and he does not resist you.
5:7 だから、兄弟たちよ。主の来臨の時まで堪え忍びなさい。見よ、農夫は、地の尊い実りを、前の雨と後の雨とがあるまで、耐え忍んで待っている。
5:7 Be patient therefore, brethren, unto the coming of the Lord. Behold, the farmer waits for the precious fruit of the earth, and has long patience for it, until he receive the early and latter rain.
5:8 あなたがたも、主の来臨が近づいているから、耐え忍びなさい。心を強くしていなさい。
5:8 Be all of you also patient; establish your hearts: for the coming of the Lord draws nigh.
5:9 兄弟たちよ。互いに不平を言い合ってはなせない。さばきを受けるかも知れないから。見よ、さばき主が、すでに戸口に立っておられる。
5:9 Grudge not one against another, brethren, lest all of you be condemned: behold, the judge stands before the door.
5:10 兄弟たちよ。苦しみを耐え忍ぶことについては、主の御名によって語った預言者たちを模範にするがよい。
5:10 Take, my brethren, the prophets, who have spoken in the name of the Lord, for an example of suffering affliction, and of patience.
5:11 忍び抜いた人たちはさいわいである、とわたしたちは思う。あなたがたは、ヨブの忍耐のことを聞いている。また、主が彼になさったことの結末を見て、主がいかに慈愛とあわれみとに富んだかたであるかが、わかるはずである。
5:11 Behold, we count them happy which endure. All of you have heard of the patience of Job, and have seen the end of the Lord; that the Lord is very pitiful, and of tender mercy.
5:12 さて、わたしの兄弟たちよ。何はともあれ、誓いをしてはならない。天をさしても、地をさしても、あるいは、そのほかのどんな誓いによっても、いっさい誓ってはならない。むしろ、「しかり」を「しかり」とし、「否」を「否」としなさい。そうしないと、あなたがたは、さばきを受けることになる。
5:12 But above all things, my brethren, swear not, neither by heaven, neither by the earth, neither by any other oath: but let your yea be yea; and your nay, nay; lest all of you fall into condemnation.
5:13 あなたがたの中に、苦しんでいる者があるか。その人は、祈るがよい。喜んでいる者があるか、その人は、さんびするがよい。
5:13 Is any among you afflicted? let him pray. Is any merry? let him sing psalms.
5:14 あなたがたの中に、病んでいる者があるか。その人は、教会の長老たちを招き、主の御名によって、オリブ油を注いで祈ってもらうがよい。
5:14 Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord:
5:15 信仰による祈りは、病んでいる人を救い、そして、主はその人を立ち上がらせて下さる。かつ、その人が罪を犯していたなら、それもゆるされる。
5:15 And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him.
5:16 だから、互いに罪を告白し合い、また、いやされるようにお互いのために祈りなさい。義人の祈りは、大いに力があり、効果のあるものである。
5:16 Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that all of you may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.
5:17 エリヤは、わたしたちと同じ人間であったが、雨が降らないようにと祈りをささげたところ、三年六ヶ月のあいだ、地上に雨が降らなかった。
5:17 Elijah was a man subject to like passions as we are, and he prayed earnestly that it might not rain: and it rained not on the earth by the space of three years and six months.
5:18 それから、ふたたび祈ったところ、天は雨を降らせ、地はその実をみのらせた。
5:18 And he prayed again, and the heaven gave rain, and the earth brought forth her fruit.
5:19 わたしの兄弟たちよ。あなたがたのうち、真理の道から踏み迷う者があり、だれかが彼を引き戻すなら、
5:19 Brethren, if any of you do go astray from the truth, and one convert him;
5:20 かように罪人を迷いの道から引きもどす人は、そのたましいを死から救い出し、かつ、多くの罪をおおうものであることを、知るべきである。
5:20 Let him know, that he which converts the sinner from the error of his way shall save a soul from death, and shall hide a multitude of sins.
