21:1 そこでヨブは答えて言った、
21:1 But Job answered and said,
21:2 「あなたがたはとくと、わたしの言葉を聞き、／これをもって、あなたがたの慰めとするがよい。
21:2 Hear diligently my speech, and let this be your consolations.
21:3 まずわたしをゆるして語らせなさい。わたしが語ったのち、あざけるのもよかろう。
21:3 Suffer me that I may speak; and after that I have spoken, mock on.
21:4 わたしのつぶやきは人に対してであろうか。わたしはどうして、いらだたないでいられようか。
21:4 As for me, is my complaint to man? and if it were so, why should not my spirit be troubled?
21:5 あなたがたはわたしを見て、驚き、／手を口にあてるがよい。
21:5 Mark me, and be astonished, and lay your hand upon your mouth.
21:6 わたしはこれを思うと恐ろしくなって、／からだがしきりに震えわななく。
21:6 Even when I remember I am afraid, and trembling takes hold on my flesh.
21:7 なにゆえ悪しき人が生きながらえ、／老齢に達し、かつ力強くなるのか。
21:7 Wherefore do the wicked live, become old, yea, are mighty in power?
21:8 その子らは彼らの前に堅く立ち、／その子孫もその目の前に堅く立つ。
21:8 Their seed is established in their sight with them, and their offspring before their eyes.
21:9 その家は安らかで、恐れがなく、／神のつえは彼らの上に臨むことがない。
21:9 Their houses are safe from fear, neither is the rod of God upon them.
21:10 その雄牛は種を与えて、誤ることなく、／その雌牛は子を産んで、そこなうことがない。
21:10 Their bull genders, and fails not; their cow calves, and casts not her calf.
21:11 彼らはその小さい者どもを群れのように連れ出し、／その子らは舞い踊る。
21:11 They send forth their little ones like a flock, and their children dance.
21:12 彼らは手鼓と琴に合わせて歌い、／笛の音によって楽しみ、
21:12 They take the timbrel and harp, and rejoice at the sound of the organ.
21:13 その日をさいわいに過ごし、／安らかに陰府にくだる。
21:13 They spend their days in wealth, and in a moment go down to the grave.
21:14 彼らは神に言う、『われわれを離れよ、／われわれはあなたの道を知ることを好まない。
21:14 Therefore they say unto God, Depart from us; for we desire not the knowledge of your ways.
21:15 全能者は何者なので、／われわれはこれに仕えねばならないのか。われわれはこれに祈っても、なんの益があるか』と。
21:15 What is the Almighty, that we should serve him? and what profit should we have, if we pray unto him?
21:16 見よ、彼らの繁栄は彼らの手にあるではないか。悪人の計りごとは、わたしの遠く及ぶ所でない。
21:16 Lo, their good is not in their hand: the counsel of the wicked is far from me.
21:17 悪人のともしびの消されること、／幾たびあるか。その災の彼らの上に臨むこと、／神がその怒りをもって苦しみを与えられること、／幾たびあるか。
21:17 How often is the candle of the wicked put out! and how often comes their destruction upon them! God distributes sorrows in his anger.
21:18 彼らが風の前のわらのようになること、／あらしに吹き去られるもみがらのようになること、／幾たびあるか。
21:18 They are as stubble before the wind, and as chaff that the storm carries away.
21:19 あなたがたは言う、／『神は彼らの罪を積みたくわえて、／その子らに報いられるのだ』と。どうかそれを彼ら自身に報いて、／彼らにその罪を知らせられるように。
21:19 God lays up his iniquity for his children: he rewards him, and he shall know it.
21:20 すなわち彼ら自身の目にその滅びを見させ、／全能者の怒りを彼らに飲ませられるように。
21:20 His eyes shall see his destruction, and he shall drink of the wrath of the Almighty.
21:21 その月の数のつきるとき、／彼らはその後の家になんのかかわる所があろうか。
21:21 For what pleasure has he in his house after him, when the number of his months is cut off in the midst?
21:22 神は天にある者たちをさえ、さばかれるのに、／だれが神に知識を教えることができようか。
21:22 Shall any teach God knowledge? seeing he judges those that are high.
21:23 ある者は繁栄をきわめ、／全く安らかに、かつおだやかに死に、
21:23 One dies in his full strength, being wholly at ease and quiet.
21:24 そのからだには脂肪が満ち、／その骨の髄は潤っている。
21:24 His breasts are full of milk, and his bones are moistened with marrow.
21:25 ある者は心を苦しめて死に、／なんの幸をも味わうことがない。
21:25 And another dies in the bitterness of his soul, and never eats with pleasure.
21:26 彼らはひとしくちりに伏し、／うじにおおわれる。
21:26 They shall lie down alike in the dust, and the worms shall cover them.
21:27 見よ、わたしはあなたがたの思いを知り、／わたしを害しようとするたくらみを知る。
21:27 Behold, I know your thoughts, and the devices which all of you wrongfully imagine against me.
21:28 あなたがたは言う、『王侯の家はどこにあるか、／悪人の住む天幕はどこにあるか』と。
21:28 For all of you say, Where is the house of the prince? and where are the dwelling places of the wicked?
21:29 あなたがたは道行く人々に問わなかったか、／彼らの証言を受け入れないのか。
21:29 Have all of you not asked them that go by the way? and do all of you not know their tokens,
21:30 すなわち、災の日に悪人は免れ、／激しい怒りの日に彼は救い出される。
21:30 That the wicked is reserved to the day of destruction? they shall be brought forth to the day of wrath.
21:31 だれが彼に向かって、／その道を告げ知らせる者があるか、／だれが彼のした事を彼に報いる者があるか。
21:31 Who shall declare his way to his face? and who shall repay him what he has done?
21:32 彼はかかれて墓に行き、／塚の上で見張りされ、
21:32 Yet shall he be brought to the grave, and shall remain in the tomb.
21:33 谷の土くれも彼には快く、／すべての人はそのあとに従う。彼の前に行った者も数えきれない。
21:33 The clods of the valley shall be sweet unto him, and every man shall draw after him, as there are innumerable before him.
21:34 それで、あなたがたはどうしてむなしい事をもって、／わたしを慰めようとするのか。あなたがたの答は偽り以外の何ものでもない」。
21:34 How then comfort all of you me in vain, seeing in your answers there remains falsehood?
22:1 そこでテマンびとエリパズは答えて言った、
22:1 Then Eliphaz the Temanite answered and said,
22:2 「人は神を益することができるであろうか。賢い人も、ただ自身を益するのみである。
22:2 Can a man be profitable unto God, as he that is wise may be profitable unto himself?
22:3 あなたが正しくても、全能者になんの喜びがあろう。あなたが自分の道を全うしても、／彼になんの利益があろう。
22:3 Is it any pleasure to the Almighty, that you are righteous? or is it gain to him, that you make your ways perfect?
22:4 神はあなたが神を恐れることのゆえに、／あなたを責め、あなたをさばかれるであろうか。
22:4 Will he reprove you for fear of you? will he enter with you into judgment?
22:5 あなたの悪は大きいではないか。あなたの罪は、はてしがない。
22:5 Is not your wickedness great? and yours iniquities infinite?
22:6 あなたはゆえなく兄弟のものを質にとり、／裸な者の着物をはぎ取り、
22:6 For you have taken a pledge from your brother for nothing, and stripped the naked of their clothing.
22:7 疲れた者に水を飲ませず、／飢えた者に食物を与えなかった。
22:7 You have not given water to the weary to drink, and you have withheld bread from the hungry.
22:8 力ある人は土地を得、／名ある人はそのうちに住んだ。
22:8 But as for the mighty man, he had the earth; and the honourable man dwelt in it.
22:9 あなたは、やもめをむなしく去らせた。みなしごの腕は折られた。
22:9 You have sent widows away empty, and the arms of the fatherless have been broken.
22:10 それゆえ、わなはあなたをめぐり、／恐怖は、にわかにあなたを驚かす。
22:10 Therefore snares are round about you, and sudden fear troubles you;
22:11 あなたの光は暗くされ、／あなたは見ることができない。大水はあなたをおおうであろう。
22:11 Or darkness, that you can not see; and abundance of waters cover you.
22:12 神は天に高くおられるではないか。見よ、いと高き星を。いかに高いことよ。
22:12 Is not God in the height of heaven? and behold the height of the stars, how high they are!
22:13 それであなたは言う、『神は何を知っておられるか。彼は黒雲を通して、さばくことができるのか。
22:13 And you says, How does God know? can he judge through the dark cloud?
22:14 濃い雲が彼をおおい隠すと、／彼は見ることができない。彼は天の大空を歩まれるのだ』と。
22:14 Thick clouds are a covering to him, that he sees not; and he walks in the circuit of heaven.
22:15 あなたは悪しき人々が踏んだ／いにしえの道を守ろうとするのか。
22:15 Have you marked the old way which wicked men have trodden?
22:16 彼らは時がこないうちに取り去られ、／その基は川のように押し流された。
22:16 Which were cut down out of time, whose foundation was overflowed with a flood:
22:17 彼らは神に言った、『われわれを離れてください』と、／また『全能者はわれわれに何をなしえようか』と。
22:17 Which said unto God, Depart from us: and what can the Almighty do for them?
22:18 しかし神は彼らの家を良い物で満たされた。ただし悪人の計りごとは／わたしのくみする所ではない。
22:18 Yet he filled their houses with good things: but the counsel of the wicked is far from me.
22:19 正しい者はこれを見て喜び、／罪なき者は彼らをあざ笑って言う、
22:19 The righteous see it, and are glad: and the innocent laugh them to scorn.
22:20 『まことにわれわれのあだは滅ぼされ、／その残した物は火で焼き滅ぼされた』と。
22:20 Whereas our substance is not cut down, but the remnant of them the fire consumes.
22:21 あなたは神と和らいで、平安を得るがよい。そうすれば幸福があなたに来るでしょう。
22:21 Acquaint now yourself with him, and be at peace: thereby good shall come unto you.
22:22 どうか、彼の口から教を受け、／その言葉をあなたの心におさめるように。
22:22 Receive, I pray you, the law from his mouth, and lay up his words in yours heart.
22:23 あなたがもし全能者に立ち返って、おのれを低くし、／あなたの天幕から不義を除き去り、
22:23 If you return to the Almighty, you shall be built up, you shall put away iniquity far from your tabernacles.
22:24 こがねをちりの中に置き、／オフルのこがねを谷川の石の中に置き、
22:24 Then shall you lay up gold as dust, and the gold of Ophir as the stones of the brooks.
22:25 全能者があなたのこがねとなり、／あなたの貴重なしろがねとなるならば、
22:25 Yea, the Almighty shall be your defence, and you shall have plenty of silver.
22:26 その時、あなたは全能者を喜び、／神に向かって顔をあげることができる。
22:26 For then shall you have your delight in the Almighty, and shall lift up your face unto God.
22:27 あなたが彼に祈るならば、彼はあなたに聞かれる。そしてあなたは自分の誓いを果す。
22:27 You shall make your prayer unto him, and he shall hear you, and you shall pay your vows.
22:28 あなたが事をなそうと定めるならば、／あなたはその事を成就し、／あなたの道には光が輝く。
22:28 You shall also decree a thing, and it shall be established unto you: and the light shall shine upon your ways.
22:29 彼は高ぶる者を低くされるが、／へりくだる者を救われるからだ。
22:29 When men are cast down, then you shall say, There is lifting up; and he shall save the humble person.
22:30 彼は罪のない者を救われる。あなたはその手の潔いことによって、／救われるであろう」。
22:30 He shall deliver the island of the innocent: and it is delivered by the pureness of yours hands.
23:1 そこでヨブは答えて言った、
23:1 Then Job answered and said,
23:2 「きょうもまた、わたしのつぶやきは激しく、／彼の手はわたしの嘆きにかかわらず、重い。
23:2 Even to day is my complaint bitter: my stroke is heavier than my groaning.
23:3 どうか、彼を尋ねてどこで会えるかを知り、／そのみ座に至ることができるように。
23:3 Oh that I knew where I might find him! that I might come even to his seat!
23:4 わたしは彼の前にわたしの訴えをならべ、／口をきわめて論議するであろう。
23:4 I would order my cause before him, and fill my mouth with arguments.
23:5 わたしは、わたしに答えられるみ言葉を知り、／わたしに言われる所を悟ろう。
23:5 I would know the words which he would answer me, and understand what he would say unto me.
23:6 彼は大いなる力をもって、／わたしと争われるであろうか、／いな、かえってわたしを顧みられるであろう。
23:6 Will he plead against me with his great power? No; but he would put strength in me.
23:7 かしこでは正しい人は彼と言い争うことができる。そうすれば、わたしはわたしをさばく者から／永久に救われるであろう。
23:7 There the righteous might dispute with him; so should I be delivered for ever from my judge.
23:8 見よ、わたしが進んでも、彼を見ない。退いても、彼を認めることができない。
23:8 Behold, I go forward, but he is not there; and backward, but I cannot perceive him:
23:9 左の方に尋ねても、会うことができない。右の方に向かっても、見ることができない。
23:9 On the left hand, where he does work, but I cannot behold him: he hides himself on the right hand, that I cannot see him:
23:10 しかし彼はわたしの歩む道を知っておられる。彼がわたしを試みられるとき、／わたしは金のように出て来るであろう。
23:10 But he knows the way that I take: when he has tried me, I shall come forth as gold.
23:11 わたしの足は彼の歩みに堅く従った。わたしは彼の道を守って離れなかった。
23:11 My foot has held his steps, his way have I kept, and not declined.
23:12 わたしは彼のくちびるの命令にそむかず、／その口の言葉をわたしの胸にたくわえた。
23:12 Neither have I gone back from the commandment of his lips; I have esteemed the words of his mouth more than my necessary food.
23:13 しかし彼は変ることはない。だれが彼をひるがえすことができようか。彼はその心の欲するところを行われるのだ。
23:13 But he is in one mind, and who can turn him? and what his soul desires, even that he does.
23:14 彼はわたしのために定めた事をなし遂げられる。そしてこのような事が多く彼の心にある。
23:14 For he performs the thing that is appointed for me: and many such things are with him.
23:15 それゆえ、わたしは彼の前におののく。わたしは考えるとき、彼を恐れる。
23:15 Therefore am I troubled at his presence: when I consider, I am afraid of him.
23:16 神はわたしの心を弱くされた。全能者はわたしを恐れさせられた。
23:16 For God makes my heart soft, and the Almighty troubles me:
23:17 わたしは、やみによって閉じこめられ、／暗黒がわたしの顔をおおっている。
23:17 Because I was not cut off before the darkness, neither has he covered the darkness from my face.
24:1 なにゆえ、全能者はさばきの時を／定めておかれないのか。なにゆえ、彼を知る者がその日を見ないのか。
24:1 Why, seeing times are not hidden from the Almighty, do they that know him not see his days?
24:2 世には地境を移す者、／群れを奪ってそれを飼う者、
24:2 Some remove the landmarks; they violently take away flocks, and feed thereof.
24:3 みなしごのろばを追いやる者、／やもめの牛を質に取る者、
24:3 They drive away the ass of the fatherless, they take the widow's ox for a pledge.
24:4 貧しい者を道から押しのける者がある。世の弱い者は皆彼らをさけて身をかくす。
24:4 They turn the needy out of the way: the poor of the earth hide themselves together.
24:5 見よ、彼らは荒野におる野ろばのように出て働き、／野で獲物を求めて、その子らの食物とする。
24:5 Behold, as wild asses in the desert, go they forth to their work; rising early for a prey: the wilderness yields food for them and for their children.
24:6 彼らは畑でそのまぐさを刈り、／また悪人のぶどう畑で拾い集める。
24:6 They reap every one his corn in the field: and they gather the vintage of the wicked.
24:7 彼らは着る物がなく、裸で夜を過ごし、／寒さに身をおおうべき物もない。
24:7 They cause the naked to lodge without clothing, that they have no covering in the cold.
24:8 彼らは山の雨にぬれ、しのぎ場もなく岩にすがる。
24:8 They are wet with the showers of the mountains, and embrace the rock for lack of a shelter.
24:9 （みなしごをその母のふところから奪い、／貧しい者の幼な子を質にとる者がある。）
24:9 They pluck the fatherless from the breast, and take a pledge of the poor.
24:10 彼らは着る物がなく、裸で歩き、／飢えつつ麦束を運び、
24:10 They cause him to go naked without clothing, and they take away the sheaf from the hungry;
24:11 悪人のオリブ並み木の中で油をしぼり、／酒ぶねを踏んでも、かわきを覚える。
24:11 Which make oil within their walls, and tread their winepresses, and suffer thirst.
24:12 町の中から死のうめきが起り、／傷ついた者の魂が助けを呼び求める。しかし神は彼らの祈を顧みられない。
24:12 Men groan from out of the city, and the soul of the wounded cries out: yet God lays not folly to them.
24:13 光にそむく者たちがある。彼らは光の道を知らず、光の道にとどまらない。
24:13 They are of those that rebel against the light; they know not the ways thereof, nor abide in the paths thereof.
24:14 人を殺す者は暗いうちに起き出て／弱い者と貧しい者を殺し、／夜は盗びととなる。
24:14 The murderer rising with the light kills the poor and needy, and in the night is as a thief.
24:15 姦淫する者の目はたそがれを待って、／『だれもわたしを見ていないだろう』と言い、／顔におおう物を当てる。
24:15 The eye also of the adulterer waits for the twilight, saying, No eye shall see me: and disguises his face.
24:16 彼らは暗やみで家をうがち、／昼は閉じこもって光を知らない。
24:16 In the dark they dig through houses, which they had marked for themselves in the daytime: they know not the light.
24:17 彼らには暗黒は朝である。彼らは暗黒の恐れを友とするからだ。
24:17 For the morning is to them even as the shadow of death: if one know them, they are in the terrors of the shadow of death.
24:18 あなたがたは言う、／『彼らは水のおもてにすみやかに流れ去り、／その受ける分は地でのろわれ、／酒ぶねを踏む者はだれも／彼らのぶどう畑の道に行かない。
24:18 He is swift as the waters; their portion is cursed in the earth: he beholds not the way of the vineyards.
24:19 ひでりと熱さは雪水を奪い去る、／陰府が罪を犯した者に対するも、これと同様だ。
24:19 Drought and heat consume the snow waters: so does the grave those which have sinned.
24:20 町の広場は彼らを忘れ、／彼らの名は覚えられることなく、／不義は木の折られるように折られる』と。
24:20 The womb shall forget him; the worm shall feed sweetly on him; he shall be no more remembered; and wickedness shall be broken as a tree.
24:21 彼らは子を産まぬうまずめをくらい、／やもめをあわれむことをしない。
24:21 He evil entreats the barren that bears not: and does not good to the widow.
24:22 しかし神はその力をもって、／強い人々を生きながらえさせられる。彼らは生きる望みのない時にも起きあがる。
24:22 He draws also the mighty with his power: he rises up, and no man is sure of life.
24:23 神が彼らに安全を与えられるので、／彼らは安らかである。神の目は彼らの道の上にある。
24:23 Though it be given him to be in safety, whereon he rests; yet his eyes are upon their ways.
24:24 彼らはしばし高められて、いなくなり、／ぜにあおいのように枯れて消えうせ、／麦の穂先のように切り取られる。
24:24 They are exalted for a little while, but are gone and brought low; they are taken out of the way as all other, and cut off as the tops of the ears of corn.
24:25 もし、そうでないなら、／だれがわたしにその偽りを証明し、／わが言葉のむなしいことを示しうるだろうか」。
24:25 And if it be not so now, who will make me a liar, and make my speech nothing worth?
25:1 そこでシュヒびとビルダデは答えて言った、
25:1 Then answered Bildad the Shuhite, and said,
25:2 「大権と恐れとは神と共にある。彼は高き所で平和を施される。
25:2 Dominion and fear are with him, he makes peace in his high places.
25:3 その軍勢は数えることができるか。何物かその光に浴さないものがあるか。
25:3 Is there any number of his armies? and upon whom does not his light arise?
25:4 それで人はどうして神の前に正しくありえようか。女から生れた者がどうして清くありえようか。
25:4 How then can man be justified with God? or how can he be clean that is born of a woman?
25:5 見よ、月さえも輝かず、／星も彼の目には清くない。
25:5 Behold even to the moon, and it shines not; yea, the stars are not pure in his sight.
25:6 うじのような人、／虫のような人の子はなおさらである」。
25:6 How much less man, that is a worm? and the son of man, which is a worm?
26:1 そこでヨブは答えて言った、
26:1 But Job answered and said,
26:2 「あなたは力のない者をどれほど助けたかしれない。気力のない腕をどれほど救ったかしれない。
26:2 How have you helped him that is without power? how save you the arm that has no strength?
26:3 知恵のない者をどれほど教えたかしれない。悟りをどれほど多く示したかしれない。
26:3 How have you counselled him that has no wisdom? and how have you plentifully declared the thing as it is?
26:4 あなたはだれの助けによって言葉をだしたのか。あなたから出たのはだれの霊なのか。
26:4 To whom have you uttered words? and whose spirit came from you?
26:5 亡霊は水およびその中に住むものの下に震う。
26:5 Dead things are formed from under the waters, and the inhabitants thereof.
26:6 神の前では陰府も裸である。滅びの穴もおおい隠すものはない。
26:6 Hell is naked before him, and destruction has no covering.
26:7 彼は北の天を空間に張り、／地を何もない所に掛けられる。
26:7 He stretches out the north over the empty place, and hangs the earth upon nothing.
26:8 彼は水を濃い雲の中に包まれるが、／その下の雲は裂けない。
26:8 He binds up the waters in his thick clouds; and the cloud is not rent under them.
26:9 彼は月のおもてをおおい隠して、／雲をその上にのべ、
26:9 He holds back the face of his throne, and spreads his cloud upon it.
26:10 水のおもてに円を描いて、／光とやみとの境とされた。
26:10 He has compassed the waters with bounds, until the day and night come to an end.
26:11 彼が戒めると、天の柱は震い、かつ驚く。
26:11 The pillars of heaven tremble and are astonished at his reproof.
26:12 彼はその力をもって海を静め、／その知恵をもってラハブを打ち砕き、
26:12 He divides the sea with his power, and by his understanding he strikes through the proud.
26:13 その息をもって天を晴れわたらせ、／その手をもって逃げるへびを突き通される。
26:13 By his spirit he has garnished the heavens; his hand has formed the crooked serpent.
26:14 見よ、これらはただ彼の道の端にすぎない。われわれが彼について聞く所は／いかにかすかなささやきであろう。しかし、その力のとどろきに至っては、／だれが悟ることができるか」。
26:14 Lo, these are parts of his ways: but how little a portion is heard of him? but the thunder of his power who can understand?
27:1 ヨブはまた言葉をついで言った、
27:1 Moreover Job continued his parable, and said,
27:2 「神は生きておられる。彼はわたしの義を奪い去られた。全能者はわたしの魂を悩まされた。
27:2 As God lives, who has taken away my judgment; and the Almighty, who has vexed my soul;
27:3 わたしの息がわたしのうちにあり、／神の息がわたしの鼻にある間、
27:3 All the while my breath is in me, and the spirit of God is in my nostrils;
27:4 わたしのくちびるは不義を言わない、／わたしの舌は偽りを語らない。
27:4 My lips shall not speak wickedness, nor my tongue utter deceit.
27:5 わたしは断じて、あなたがたを正しいとは認めない。わたしは死ぬまで、潔白を主張してやめない。
27:5 God forbid that I should justify you: till I die I will not remove mine integrity from me.
27:6 わたしは堅くわが義を保って捨てない。わたしは今まで一日も心に責められた事がない。
27:6 My righteousness I hold fast, and will not let it go: my heart shall not reproach me so long as I live.
27:7 どうか、わたしの敵は悪人のようになり、／わたしに逆らう者は／不義なる者のようになるように。
27:7 Let mine enemy be as the wicked, and he that rises up against me as the unrighteous.
27:8 神が彼を断ち、その魂を抜きとられるとき、／神を信じない者になんの望みがあろう。
27:8 For what is the hope of the hypocrite, though he has gained, when God takes away his soul?
27:9 災が彼に臨むとき、／神はその叫びを聞かれるであろうか。
27:9 Will God hear his cry when trouble comes upon him?
27:10 彼は全能者を喜ぶであろうか、／常に神を呼ぶであろうか。
27:10 Will he delight himself in the Almighty? will he always call upon God?
27:11 わたしは神のみ手についてあなたがたに教え、／全能者と共にあるものを隠すことをしない。
27:11 I will teach you by the hand of God: that which is with the Almighty will I not conceal.
27:12 見よ、あなたがたは皆みずからこれを見た、／それなのに、どうしてむなしい者となったのか。
27:12 Behold, all you yourselves have seen it; why then are all of you thus altogether vain?
27:13 これは悪人の神から受ける分、／圧制者の全能者から受ける嗣業である。
27:13 This is the portion of a wicked man with God, and the heritage of oppressors, which they shall receive of the Almighty.
27:14 その子らがふえればつるぎに渡され、／その子孫は食物に飽きることがない。
27:14 If his children be multiplied, it is for the sword: and his offspring shall not be satisfied with bread.
27:15 その生き残った者は疫病で死んで埋められ、／そのやもめらは泣き悲しむことをしない。
27:15 Those that remain of him shall be buried in death: and his widows shall not weep.
27:16 たとい彼は銀をちりのように積み、／衣服を土のように備えても、
27:16 Though he heap up silver as the dust, and prepare raiment as the clay;
27:17 その備えるものは正しい人がこれを着、／その銀は罪なき者が分かち取るであろう。
27:17 He may prepare it, but the just shall put it on, and the innocent shall divide the silver.
27:18 彼の建てる家は、くもの巣のようであり、／番人の造る小屋のようである。
27:18 He builds his house as a moth, and as a booth that the keeper makes.
27:19 彼は富める身で寝ても、再び富むことがなく、／目を開けばその富はない。
27:19 The rich man shall lie down, but he shall not be gathered: he opens his eyes, and he is not.
27:20 恐ろしい事が大水のように彼を襲い、／夜はつむじ風が彼を奪い去る。
27:20 Terrors take hold on him as waters, a tempest steals him away in the night.
27:21 東風が彼を揚げると、彼は去り、／彼をその所から吹き払う。
27:21 The east wind carries him away, and he departs: and as a storm hurls him out of his place.
27:22 それは彼を投げつけて、あわれむことなく、／彼はその力からのがれようと、もがく。
27:22 For God shall cast upon him, and not spare: he would fain flee out of his hand.
27:23 それは彼に向かって手を鳴らし、／あざけり笑って、その所から出て行かせる。
27:23 Men shall clap their hands at him, and shall hiss him out of his place.
28:1 しろがねには掘り出す穴があり、／精錬するこがねには出どころがある。
28:1 Surely there is a vein for the silver, and a place for gold where they fine it.
28:2 くろがねは土から取り、／あかがねは石から溶かして取る。
28:2 Iron is taken out of the earth, and brass is molten out of the stone.
28:3 人は暗やみを破り、／いやはてまでも尋ねきわめて、／暗やみおよび暗黒の中から鉱石を取る。
28:3 He sets an end to darkness, and searches out all perfection: the stones of darkness, and the shadow of death.
28:4 彼らは人の住む所を離れて縦穴をうがち、／道行く人に忘れられ、／人を離れて身をつりさげ、揺れ動く。
28:4 The flood breaks out from the inhabitant; even the waters forgotten of the foot: they are dried up, they are gone away from men.
28:5 地はそこから食物を出す。その下は火でくつがえされるようにくつがえる。
28:5 As for the earth, out of it comes bread: and under it is turned up as it were fire.
28:6 その石はサファイヤのある所、／そこにはまた金塊がある。
28:6 The stones of it are the place of sapphires: and it has dust of gold.
28:7 その道は猛禽も知らず、たかの目もこれを見ず、
28:7 There is a path which no fowl knows, and which the vulture's eye has not seen:
28:8 猛獣もこれを踏まず、ししもこれを通らなかった。
28:8 The lion's whelps have not trodden it, nor the fierce lion passed by it.
28:9 人は堅い岩に手をくだして、／山を根元からくつがえす。
28:9 He puts forth his hand upon the rock; he overturns the mountains by the roots.
28:10 彼は岩に坑道を掘り、／その目はもろもろの尊い物を見る。
28:10 He cuts out rivers among the rocks; and his eye sees every precious thing.
28:11 彼は水路をふさいで、漏れないようにし、／隠れた物を光に取り出す。
28:11 He binds the floods from overflowing; and the thing that is hid brings he forth to light.
28:12 しかし知恵はどこに見いだされるか。悟りのある所はどこか。
28:12 But where shall wisdom be found? and where is the place of understanding?
28:13 人はそこに至る道を知らない、／また生ける者の地でそれを獲ることができない。
28:13 Man knows not the price thereof; neither is it found in the land of the living.
28:14 淵は言う、『それはわたしのうちにない』と。また海は言う、『わたしのもとにない』と。
28:14 The depth says, It is not in me: and the sea says, It is not with me.
28:15 精金もこれと換えることはできない。銀も量ってその価とすることはできない。
28:15 It cannot be got for gold, neither shall silver be weighed for the price thereof.
28:16 オフルの金をもってしても、／その価を量ることはできない。尊い縞めのうも、サファイヤも同様である。
28:16 It cannot be valued with the gold of Ophir, with the precious onyx, or the sapphire.
28:17 こがねも、玻璃もこれに並ぶことができない。また精金の器物もこれと換えることができない。
28:17 The gold and the crystal cannot equal it: and the exchange of it shall not be for jewels of fine gold.
28:18 さんごも水晶も言うに足りない。知恵を得るのは真珠を得るのにまさる。
28:18 No mention shall be made of coral, or of pearls: for the price of wisdom is above rubies.
28:19 エチオピヤのトパズもこれに並ぶことができない。純金をもってしても、その価を量ることはできない。
28:19 The topaz of Ethiopia shall not equal it, neither shall it be valued with pure gold.
28:20 それでは知恵はどこから来るか。悟りのある所はどこか。
28:20 Whence then comes wisdom? and where is the place of understanding?
28:21 これはすべての生き物の目に隠され、／空の鳥にも隠されている。
28:21 Seeing it is hid from the eyes of all living, and kept close from the fowls of the air.
28:22 滅びも死も言う、／『われわれはそのうわさを耳に聞いただけだ』。
28:22 Destruction and death say, We have heard the fame thereof with our ears.
28:23 神はこれに至る道を悟っておられる、／彼はそのある所を知っておられる。
28:23 God understands the way thereof, and he knows the place thereof.
28:24 彼は地の果までもみそなわし、／天が下を見きわめられるからだ。
28:24 For he looks to the ends of the earth, and sees under the whole heaven;
28:25 彼が風に重さを与え、／水をますで量られたとき、
28:25 To make the weight for the winds; and he weights the waters by measure.
28:26 彼が雨のために規定を設け、／雷のひらめきのために道を設けられたとき、
28:26 When he made a decree for the rain, and a way for the lightning of the thunder:
28:27 彼は知恵を見て、これをあらわし、／これを確かめ、これをきわめられた。
28:27 Then did he see it, and declare it; he prepared it, yea, and searched it out.
28:28 そして人に言われた、／『見よ、主を恐れることは知恵である、／悪を離れることは悟りである』と」。
28:28 And unto man he said, Behold, the fear of the LORD, that is wisdom; and to depart from evil is understanding.
29:1 ヨブはまた言葉をついで言った、
29:1 Moreover Job continued his parable, and said,
29:2 「ああ過ぎた年月のようであったらよいのだが、／神がわたしを守ってくださった日のようで／あったらよいのだが。
29:2 Oh that I were as in months past, as in the days when God preserved me;
29:3 あの時には、彼のともしびがわたしの頭の上に輝き、／彼の光によってわたしは暗やみを歩んだ。
29:3 When his candle shined upon my head, and when by his light I walked through darkness;
29:4 わたしの盛んな時のようであったならよいのだが。あの時には、神の親しみが／わたしの天幕の上にあった。
29:4 As I was in the days of my youth, when the secret of God was upon my tabernacle;
29:5 あの時には、全能者がなおわたしと共にいまし、／わたしの子供たちもわたしの周囲にいた。
29:5 When the Almighty was yet with me, when my children were about me;
29:6 あの時、わたしの足跡は乳で洗われ、／岩もわたしのために油の流れを注ぎだした。
29:6 When I washed my steps with butter, and the rock poured me out rivers of oil;
29:7 あの時には、わたしは町の門に出て行き、／わたしの座を広場に設けた。
29:7 When I went out to the gate through the city, when I prepared my seat in the street!
29:8 若い者はわたしを見てしりぞき、／老いた者は身をおこして立ち、
29:8 The young men saw me, and hid themselves: and the aged arose, and stood up.
29:9 君たる者も物言うことをやめて、／その口に手を当て、
29:9 The princes refrained talking, and laid their hand on their mouth.
29:10 尊い者も声をおさめて、／その舌を上あごにつけた。
29:10 The nobles held their peace, and their tongue cleaved to the roof of their mouth.
29:11 耳に聞いた者はわたしを祝福された者となし、／目に見た者はこれをあかしした。
29:11 When the ear heard me, then it blessed me; and when the eye saw me, it gave witness to me:
29:12 これは助けを求める貧しい者を救い、／また、みなしごおよび助ける人のない者を／救ったからである。
29:12 Because I delivered the poor that cried, and the fatherless, and him that had none to help him.
29:13 今にも滅びようとした者の祝福がわたしに来た。わたしはまたやもめの心をして喜び歌わせた。
29:13 The blessing of him that was ready to perish came upon me: and I caused the widow's heart to sing for joy.
29:14 わたしは正義を着、正義はわたしをおおった。わたしの公義は上着のごとく、／また冠のようであった。
29:14 I put on righteousness, and it clothed me: my judgment was as a robe and a diadem.
29:15 わたしは目しいの目となり、／足なえの足となり、
29:15 I was eyes to the blind, and feet was I to the lame.
29:16 貧しい者の父となり、／知らない人の訴えの理由を調べてやった。
29:16 I was a father to the poor: and the cause which I knew not I searched out.
29:17 わたしはまた悪しき者のきばを折り、／その歯の間から獲物を引き出した。
29:17 And I brake the jaws of the wicked, and plucked the spoil out of his teeth.
29:18 その時、わたしは言った、／『わたしは自分の巣の中で死に、／わたしの日は砂のように多くなるであろう。
29:18 Then I said, I shall die in my nest, and I shall multiply my days as the sand.
29:19 わたしの根は水のほとりにはびこり、／露は夜もすがらわたしの枝におくであろう。
29:19 My root was spread out by the waters, and the dew lay all night upon my branch.
29:20 わたしの栄えはわたしと共に新しく、／わたしの弓はわたしの手にいつも強い』と。
29:20 My glory was fresh in me, and my bow was renewed in my hand.
29:21 人々はわたしに聞いて待ち、／黙して、わたしの教に従った。
29:21 Unto me men gave ear, and waited, and kept silence at my counsel.
29:22 わたしが言った後は彼らは再び言わなかった。わたしの言葉は彼らの上に／雨のように降りそそいだ。
29:22 After my words they spoke not again; and my speech dropped upon them.
29:23 彼らは雨を待つように、わたしを待ち望み、／春の雨を仰ぐように口を開いて仰いだ。
29:23 And they waited for me as for the rain; and they opened their mouth wide as for the latter rain.
29:24 彼らが希望を失った時にも、／わたしは彼らにむかってほほえんだ。彼らはわたしの顔の光を除くことができなかった。
29:24 If I laughed on them, they believed it not; and the light of my countenance they cast not down.
29:25 わたしは彼らのために道を選び、／そのかしらとして座し、／軍中の王のようにしており、／嘆く者を慰める人のようであった。
29:25 I chose out their way, and sat chief, and dwelt as a king in the army, as one that comforts the mourners.
30:1 しかし今はわたしよりも年若い者が、／かえってわたしをあざ笑う。彼らの父はわたしが卑しめて、／群れの犬と一緒にさえしなかった者だ。
30:1 But now they that are younger than I have me in derision, whose fathers I would have disdained to have set with the dogs of my flock.
30:2 彼らの手の力からわたしは何を得るであろうか、／彼らはその気力がすでに衰えた人々だ。
30:2 Yea, whereto might the strength of their hands profit me, in whom old age was perished?
30:3 彼らは乏しさと激しい飢えとによって、／かわいた荒れ地をかむ。
30:3 For lack and famine they were solitary; fleeing into the wilderness in former time desolate and waste.
30:4 彼らは、ぜにあおいおよび灌木の葉を摘み、／れだまの根をもって身を暖める。
30:4 Who cut up mallows by the bushes, and juniper roots for their food.
30:5 彼らは人々の中から追いだされ、／盗びとを追うように、人々は彼らを追い呼ばわる。
30:5 They were driven forth from among men, (they cried after them as after a thief;)
30:6 彼らは急流の谷間に住み、／土の穴または岩の穴におり、
30:6 To dwell in the cliffs of the valleys, in caves of the earth, and in the rocks.
30:7 灌木の中にいななき、いらくさの下に押し合う。
30:7 Among the bushes they brayed; under the nettles they were gathered together.
30:8 彼らは愚かな者の子、また卑しい者の子であって、／国から追いだされた者だ。
30:8 They were children of fools, yea, children of base men: they were viler than the earth.
30:9 それなのに、わたしは今彼らの歌となり、／彼らの笑い草となった。
30:9 And now am I their song, yea, I am their byword.
30:10 彼らはわたしをいとい、遠くわたしをはなれ、／わたしの顔につばきすることも、ためらわない。
30:10 They detest me, they flee far from me, and spare not to spit in my face.
30:11 神がわたしの綱を解いて、／わたしを卑しめられたので、／彼らもわたしの前に慎みを捨てた。
30:11 Because he has loosed my cord, and afflicted me, they have also let loose the bridle before me.
30:12 このともがらはわたしの右に立ち上がり、／わたしを追いのけ、／わたしにむかって滅びの道を築く。
30:12 Upon my right hand rise the youth; they push away my feet, and they raise up against me the ways of their destruction.
30:13 彼らはわたしの道をこわし、わたしの災を促す。これをさし止める者はない。
30:13 They ruin my path, they set forward my calamity, they have no helper.
30:14 彼らは広い破れ口からはいるように進みきたり、／破壊の中をおし寄せる。
30:14 They came upon me as a wide breaking in of waters: in the desolation they rolled themselves upon me.
30:15 恐ろしい事はわたしに臨み、／わたしの誉は風のように吹き払われ、／わたしの繁栄は雲のように消えうせた。
30:15 Terrors are turned upon me: they pursue my soul as the wind: and my welfare passes away as a cloud.
30:16 今は、わたしの魂はわたしの内にとけて流れ、／悩みの日はわたしを捕えた。
30:16 And now my soul is poured out upon me; the days of affliction have taken hold upon me.
30:17 夜はわたしの骨を激しく悩まし、／わたしをかむ苦しみは、やむことがない。
30:17 My bones are pierced in me in the night season: and my sinews take no rest.
30:18 それは暴力をもって、わたしの着物を捕え、／はだ着のえりのように、わたしをしめつける。
30:18 By the great force of my disease is my garment changed: it binds me about as the collar of my coat.
30:19 神がわたしを泥の中に投げ入れられたので、／わたしはちり灰のようになった。
30:19 He has cast me into the mire, and I am become like dust and ashes.
30:20 わたしがあなたにむかって呼ばわっても、／あなたは答えられない。わたしが立っていても、あなたは顧みられない。
30:20 I cry unto you, and you do not hear me: I stand up, and you regard me not.
30:21 あなたは変って、わたしに無情な者となり、／み手の力をもってわたしを攻め悩まされる。
30:21 You are become cruel to me: with your strong hand you oppose yourself against me.
30:22 あなたはわたしを揚げて風の上に乗せ、／大風のうなり声の中に、もませられる。
30:22 You lift me up to the wind; you cause me to ride upon it, and dissolve my substance.
30:23 わたしは知っている、あなたはわたしを死に帰らせ、／すべての生き物の集まる家に帰らせられることを。
30:23 For I know that you will bring me to death, and to the house appointed for all living.
30:24 さりながら荒塚の中にある者は、／手を伸べないであろうか、／災の中にある者は助けを呼び求めないであろうか。
30:24 Nevertheless he will not stretch out his hand to the grave, though they cry in his destruction.
30:25 わたしは苦しい日を送る者のために／泣かなかったか。わたしの魂は貧しい人のために／悲しまなかったか。
30:25 Did not I weep for him that was in trouble? was not my soul grieved for the poor?
30:26 しかしわたしが幸を望んだのに災が来た。光を待ち望んだのにやみが来た。
30:26 When I looked for good, then evil came unto me: and when I waited for light, there came darkness.
30:27 わたしのはらわたは沸きかえって、静まらない。悩みの日がわたしに近づいた。
30:27 My bowels boiled, and rested not: the days of affliction prevented me.
30:28 わたしは日の光によらずに黒くなって歩き、／公会の中に立って助けを呼び求める。
30:28 I went mourning without the sun: I stood up, and I cried in the congregation.
30:29 わたしは山犬の兄弟となり、／だちょうの友となった。
30:29 I am a brother to dragons, and a companion to owls.
30:30 わたしの皮膚は黒くなって、はげ落ち、／わたしの骨は熱さによって燃え、
30:30 My skin is black upon me, and my bones are burned with heat.
30:31 わたしの琴は悲しみの音となり、／わたしの笛は泣く者の声となった。
30:31 My harp also is turned to mourning, and my organ into the voice of them that weep.
31:1 わたしは、わたしの目と／契約を結んだ、／どうして、おとめを慕うことができようか。
31:1 I made a covenant with mine eyes; why then should I think upon a maid?
31:2 もしそうすれば上から神の下される分は／どんなであろうか。高き所から全能者の与えられる嗣業は／どんなであろうか。
31:2 For what portion of God is there from above? and what inheritance of the Almighty from on high?
31:3 不義なる者には災が下らないであろうか。悪をなす者には災難が臨まないであろうか。
31:3 Is not destruction to the wicked? and a strange punishment to the workers of iniquity?
31:4 彼はわたしの道をみそなわし、／わたしの歩みをことごとく数えられぬであろうか。
31:4 Does not he see my ways, and count all my steps?
31:5 もし、わたしがうそと共に歩み、／わたしの足が偽りにむかって／急いだことがあるなら、
31:5 If I have walked with vanity, or if my foot has hasted to deceit;
31:6 （正しいはかりをもってわたしを量れ、／そうすれば神はわたしの潔白を知られるであろう。）
31:6 Let me be weighed in an even balance that God may know mine integrity.
31:7 もしわたしの歩みが、道をはなれ、／わたしの心がわたしの目にしたがって歩み、／わたしの手に汚れがついていたなら、
31:7 If my step has turned out of the way, and mine heart walked after mine eyes, and if any blot has cleaved to mine hands;
31:8 わたしのまいたのを他の人が食べ、／わたしのために成長するものが、／抜き取られてもかまわない。
31:8 Then let me sow, and let another eat; yea, let my offspring be rooted out.
31:9 もし、わたしの心が、女に迷ったことがあるか、／またわたしが隣り人の門で／待ち伏せしたことがあるなら、
31:9 If mine heart have been deceived by a woman, or if I have laid wait at my neighbour's door;
31:10 わたしの妻が他の人のためにうすをひき、／他の人が彼女の上に寝てもかまわない。
31:10 Then let my wife grind unto another, and let others bow down upon her.
31:11 これは重い罪であって、／さばきびとに罰せられるべき悪事だからである。
31:11 For this is an heinous crime; yea, it is an iniquity to be punished by the judges.
31:12 これは滅びに至るまでも焼きつくす火であって、／わたしのすべての産業を根こそぎ焼くであろう。
31:12 For it is a fire that consumes to destruction, and would root out all mine increase.
31:13 わたしのしもべ、また、はしためが／わたしと言い争ったときに、／わたしがもしその言い分を退けたことがあるなら、
31:13 If I did despise the cause of my manservant or of my maidservant, when they contended with me;
31:14 神が立ち上がられるとき、わたしはどうしようか、／神が尋ねられるとき、なんとお答えしようか。
31:14 What then shall I do when God rises up? and when he visits, what shall I answer him?
31:15 わたしを胎内に造られた者は、／彼をも造られたのではないか。われわれを腹の内に形造られた者は、／ただひとりではないか。
31:15 Did not he that made me in the womb make him? and did not one fashion us in the womb?
31:16 わたしがもし貧しい者の願いを退け、／やもめの目を衰えさせ、
31:16 If I have withheld the poor from their desire, or have caused the eyes of the widow to fail;
31:17 あるいはわたしひとりで食物を食べて、／みなしごに食べさせなかったことがあるなら、
31:17 Or have eaten my morsel myself alone, and the fatherless has not eaten thereof;
31:18 （わたしは彼の幼い時から父のように彼を育て、／またその母の胎を出たときから彼を導いた。）
31:18 (For from my youth he was brought up with me, as with a father, and I have guided her from my mother's womb;)
31:19 もし着物がないために死のうとする者や、／身をおおう物のない貧しい人をわたしが見た時に、
31:19 If I have seen any perish for lack of clothing, or any poor without covering;
31:20 その腰がわたしを祝福せず、／また彼がわたしの羊の毛で／暖まらなかったことがあるなら、
31:20 If his loins have not blessed me, and if he were not warmed with the fleece of my sheep;
31:21 もしわたしを助ける者が門におるのを見て、／みなしごにむかってわたしの手を／振り上げたことがあるなら、
31:21 If I have lifted up my hand against the fatherless, when I saw my help in the gate:
31:22 わたしの肩骨が、肩から落ち、／わたしの腕が、つけ根から折れてもかまわない。
31:22 Then let mine arm fall from my shoulder blade, and mine arm be broken from the bone.
31:23 わたしは神から出る災を恐れる、／その威光の前には何事もなすことはできない。
31:23 For destruction from God was a terror to me, and by reason of his highness I could not endure.
31:24 わたしがもし金をわが望みとし、／精金をわが頼みと言ったことがあるなら、
31:24 If I have made gold my hope, or have said to the fine gold, You are my confidence;
31:25 わたしがもしわが富の大いなる事と、／わたしの手に多くの物を獲た事とを／喜んだことがあるなら、
31:25 If I rejoice because my wealth was great, and because mine hand had got much;
31:26 わたしがもし日の輝くのを見、／または月の照りわたって動くのを見た時、
31:26 If I beheld the sun when it shined, or the moon walking in brightness;
31:27 心ひそかに迷って、手に口づけしたことがあるなら、
31:27 And my heart has been secretly enticed, or my mouth has kissed my hand:
31:28 これもまたさばきびとに罰せらるべき悪事だ。わたしは上なる神を欺いたからである。
31:28 This also were an iniquity to be punished by the judge: for I should have denied the God that is above.
31:29 わたしがもしわたしを憎む者の滅びるのを喜び、／または災が彼に臨んだとき、／勝ち誇ったことがあるなら、
31:29 If I rejoice at the destruction of him that hated me, or lifted up myself when evil found him:
31:30 （わたしはわが口に罪を犯させず、／のろいをもって彼の命を求めたことはなかった。）
31:30 Neither have I suffered my mouth to sin by wishing a curse to his soul.
31:31 もし、わたしの天幕の人々で、／『だれか彼の肉に飽きなかった者があるか』と、／言わなかったことがあるなら、
31:31 If the men of my tabernacle said not, Oh that we had of his flesh! we cannot be satisfied.
31:32 （他国人はちまたに宿らず、／わたしはわが門を旅びとに開いた。）
31:32 The stranger did not lodge in the street: but I opened my doors to the traveller.
31:33 わたしがもし人々の前にわたしのとがをおおい、／わたしの悪事を胸の中に隠したことがあるなら、
31:33 If I covered my transgressions as Adam, by hiding mine iniquity in my bosom:
31:34 わたしが大衆を恐れ、宗族の侮りにおじて、／口を閉じ、門を出なかったことがあるなら、
31:34 Did I fear a great multitude, or did the contempt of families terrify me, that I kept silence, and went not out of the door?
31:35 ああ、わたしに聞いてくれる者があればよいのだが、／（わたしのかきはんがここにある。どうか、全能者がわたしに答えられるように。）／ああ、わたしの敵の書いた／告訴状があればよいのだが。
31:35 Oh that one would hear me! behold, my desire is, that the Almighty would answer me, and that mine adversary had written a book.
31:36 わたしは必ずこれを肩に負い、／冠のようにこれをわが身に結び、
31:36 Surely I would take it upon my shoulder, and bind it as a crown to me.
31:37 わが歩みの数を彼に述べ、／君たる者のようにして、彼に近づくであろう。
31:37 I would declare unto him the number of my steps; as a prince would I go near unto him.
31:38 もしわが田畑がわたしに向かって呼ばわり、／そのうねみぞが共に泣き叫んだことがあるなら、
31:38 If my land cry against me, or that the furrows likewise thereof complain;
31:39 もしわたしが金を払わないでその産物を食べ、／その持ち主を死なせたことがあるなら、
31:39 If I have eaten the fruits thereof without money, or have caused the owners thereof to lose their life:
31:40 小麦の代りに、いばらがはえ、／大麦の代りに雑草がはえてもかまわない」。ヨブの言葉は終った。
31:40 Let thistles grow instead of wheat, and cockle instead of barley. The words of Job are ended.
32:1 このようにヨブが自分の正しいことを主張したので、これら三人の者はヨブに答えるのをやめた。
32:1 So these three men ceased to answer Job, because he was righteous in his own eyes.
32:2 その時ラム族のブズびとバラケルの子エリフは怒りを起した。すなわちヨブが神よりも自分の正しいことを主張するので、彼はヨブに向かって怒りを起した。
32:2 Then was kindled the wrath of Elihu the son of Barachel the Buzite, of the kindred of Ram: against Job was his wrath kindled, because he justified himself rather than God.
32:3 またヨブの三人の友がヨブを罪ありとしながら、答える言葉がなかったので、エリフは彼らにむかっても怒りを起した。
32:3 Also against his three friends was his wrath kindled, because they had found no answer, and yet had condemned Job.
32:4 エリフは彼らが皆、自分よりも年長者であったので、ヨブに物言うことをひかえて待っていたが、
32:4 Now Elihu had waited till Job had spoken, because they were elder than he.
32:5 ここにエリフは三人の口に答える言葉のないのを見て怒りを起した。
32:5 When Elihu saw that there was no answer in the mouth of these three men, then his wrath was kindled.
32:6 ブズびとバラケルの子エリフは答えて言った、／「わたしは年若く、あなたがたは年老いている。それゆえ、わたしははばかって、／わたしの意見を述べることをあえてしなかった。
32:6 And Elihu the son of Barachel the Buzite answered and said, I am young, and all of you are very old; wherefore I was afraid, and durst not show you mine opinion.
32:7 わたしは思った、『日を重ねた者が語るべきだ、／年を積んだ者が知恵を教えるべきだ』と。
32:7 I said, Days should speak, and multitude of years should teach wisdom.
32:8 しかし人のうちには霊があり、／全能者の息が人に悟りを与える。
32:8 But there is a spirit in man: and the inspiration of the Almighty gives them understanding.
32:9 老いた者、必ずしも知恵があるのではなく、／年とった者、必ずしも道理をわきまえるのではない。
32:9 Great men are not always wise: neither do the aged understand judgment.
32:10 ゆえにわたしは言う、『わたしに聞け、／わたしもまたわが意見を述べよう』。
32:10 Therefore I said, Hearken to me; I also will show mine opinion.
32:11 見よ、わたしはあなたがたの言葉に期待し、／その知恵ある言葉に耳を傾け、／あなたがたが言うべき言葉を捜し出すのを／待っていた。
32:11 Behold, I waited for your words; I gave ear to your reasons, whilst all of you searched out what to say.
32:12 わたしはあなたがたに心をとめたが、／あなたがたのうちにヨブを言いふせる者は／ひとりもなく、／また彼の言葉に答える者はひとりもなかった。
32:12 Yea, I attended unto you, and, behold, there was none of you that convinced Job, or that answered his words:
32:13 おそらくあなたがたは言うだろう、／『われわれは知恵を見いだした、／彼に勝つことのできるのは神だけで、／人にはできない』と。
32:13 Lest all of you should say, We have found out wisdom: God thrusts him down, not man.
32:14 彼はその言葉をわたしに向けて言わなかった。わたしはあなたがたの言葉をもって／彼に答えることはしない。
32:14 Now he has not directed his words against me: neither will I answer him with your speeches.
32:15 彼らは驚いて、もはや答えることをせず、／彼らには、もはや言うべき言葉がない。
32:15 They were amazed, they answered no more: they left off speaking.
32:16 彼らは物言わず、／立ちとどまって、もはや答えるところがないので、／わたしはこれ以上待つ必要があろうか。
32:16 When I had waited, (for they spoke not, but stood still, and answered no more;)
32:17 わたしもまたわたしの分を答え、／わたしの意見を述べよう。
32:17 I said, I will answer also my part, I also will show mine opinion.
32:18 わたしには言葉が満ち、／わたしのうちの霊がわたしに迫るからだ。
32:18 For I am full of matter, the spirit within me constrains me.
32:19 見よ、わたしの心は口を開かないぶどう酒のように、／新しいぶどう酒の皮袋のように、／今にも張りさけようとしている。
32:19 Behold, my belly is as wine which has no vent; it is ready to burst like new bottles.
32:20 わたしは語って、気を晴らし、／くちびるを開いて答えよう。
32:20 I will speak, that I may be refreshed: I will open my lips and answer.
32:21 わたしはだれをもかたより見ることなく、／また何人にもへつらうことをしない。
32:21 Let me not, I pray you, accept any man's person, neither let me give flattering titles unto man.
32:22 わたしはへつらうことを知らないからだ。もしへつらうならば、わたしの造り主は直ちに／わたしを滅ぼされるであろう。
32:22 For I know not to give flattering titles; in so doing my maker would soon take me away.
33:1 だから、ヨブよ、今わたしの言うことを聞け、／わたしのすべての言葉に耳を傾けよ。
33:1 Wherefore, Job, I pray you, hear my speeches, and hearken to all my words.
33:2 見よ、わたしは口を開き、口の中の舌は物言う。
33:2 Behold, now I have opened my mouth, my tongue has spoken in my mouth.
33:3 わたしの言葉はわが心の正しきを語り、／わたしのくちびるは真実をもってその知識を語る。
33:3 My words shall be of the uprightness of my heart: and my lips shall utter knowledge clearly.
33:4 神の霊はわたしを造り、／全能者の息はわたしを生かす。
33:4 The spirit of God has made me, and the breath of the Almighty has given me life.
33:5 あなたがもしできるなら、わたしに答えよ、／わたしの前に言葉を整えて、立て。
33:5 If you can answer me, set your words in order before me, stand up.
33:6 見よ、神に対しては、わたしもあなたと同様であり、／わたしもまた土から取って造られた者だ。
33:6 Behold, I am according to your wish in God's position: I also am formed out of the clay.
33:7 見よ、わたしの威厳はあなたを恐れさせない、／わたしの勢いはあなたを圧しない。
33:7 Behold, my terror shall not make you afraid, neither shall my hand be heavy upon you.
33:8 確かに、あなたはわたしの聞くところで言った、／わたしはあなたの言葉の声を聞いた。
33:8 Surely you have spoken in mine hearing, and I have heard the voice of your words, saying,
33:9 あなたは言う、『わたしはいさぎよく、とがはない。わたしは清く、不義はない。
33:9 I am clean without transgression, I am innocent; neither is there iniquity in me.
33:10 見よ、彼はわたしを攻める口実を見つけ、／わたしを自分の敵とみなし、
33:10 Behold, he finds occasions against me, he counts me for his enemy,
33:11 わたしの足をかせにはめ、／わたしのすべての行いに目をとめられる』と。
33:11 He puts my feet in the stocks, he marks all my paths.
33:12 見よ、わたしはあなたに答える、／あなたはこの事において正しくない。神は人よりも大いなる者だ。
33:12 Behold, in this you are not just: I will answer you, that God is greater than man.
33:13 あなたが『彼はわたしの言葉に／少しも答えられない』といって、／彼に向かって言い争うのは、どういうわけであるか。
33:13 Why do you strive against him? for he gives not account of any of his matters.
33:14 神は一つの方法によって語られ、／また二つの方法によって語られるのだが、／人はそれを悟らないのだ。
33:14 For God speaks once, yea twice, yet man perceives it not.
33:15 人々が熟睡するとき、または床にまどろむとき、／夢あるいは夜の幻のうちで、
33:15 In a dream, in a vision of the night, when deep sleep falls upon men, in slumberings upon the bed;
33:16 彼は人々の耳を開き、／警告をもって彼らを恐れさせ、
33:16 Then he opens the ears of men, and seals their instruction,
33:17 こうして人にその悪しきわざを離れさせ、／高ぶりを人から除き、
33:17 That he may withdraw man from his purpose, and hide pride from man.
33:18 その魂を守って、墓に至らせず、／その命を守って、つるぎに滅びないようにされる。
33:18 He keeps back his soul from the pit, and his life from perishing by the sword.
33:19 人はまたその床の上で痛みによって懲らされ、／その骨に戦いが絶えることなく、
33:19 He is chastened also with pain upon his bed, and the multitude of his bones with strong pain:
33:20 その命は、食物をいとい、／その食欲は、おいしい食物をきらう。
33:20 So that his life detests bread, and his soul dainty food.
33:21 その肉はやせ落ちて見えず、／その骨は見えなかったものまでもあらわになり、
33:21 His flesh is consumed away, that it cannot be seen; and his bones that were not seen stick out.
33:22 その魂は墓に近づき、その命は滅ぼす者に近づく。
33:22 Yea, his soul draws near unto the grave, and his life to the destroyers.
33:23 もしそこに彼のためにひとりの天使があり、／千のうちのひとりであって、仲保となり、／人にその正しい道を示すならば、
33:23 If there be a messenger with him, an interpreter, one among a thousand, to show unto man his uprightness:
33:24 神は彼をあわれんで言われる、／『彼を救って、墓に下ることを免れさせよ、／わたしはすでにあがないしろを得た。
33:24 Then he is gracious unto him, and says, Deliver him from going down to the pit: I have found a ransom.
33:25 彼の肉を幼な子の肉よりもみずみずしくならせ、／彼を若い時の元気に帰らせよ』と。
33:25 His flesh shall be fresher than a child's: he shall return to the days of his youth:
33:26 その時、彼が神に祈るならば、神は彼を顧み、／喜びをもって、み前にいたらせ、／その救を人に告げ知らせられる。
33:26 He shall pray unto God, and he will be favourable unto him: and he shall see his face with joy: for he will render unto man his righteousness.
33:27 彼は人々の前に歌って言う、／『わたしは罪を犯し、正しい事を曲げた。しかしわたしに報復がなかった。
33:27 He looks upon men, and if any say, I have sinned, and perverted that which was right, and it profited me not;
33:28 彼はわたしの魂をあがなって、／墓に下らせられなかった。わたしの命は光を見ることができる』と。
33:28 He will deliver his soul from going into the pit, and his life shall see the light.
33:29 見よ、神はこれらすべての事を／ふたたび、みたび人に行い、
33:29 Lo, all these things works God oftentimes with man,
33:30 その魂を墓から引き返し、／彼に命の光を見させられる。
33:30 To bring back his soul from the pit, to be enlightened with the light of the living.
33:31 ヨブよ、耳を傾けてわたしに聞け、／黙せよ、わたしは語ろう。
33:31 Mark well, O Job, hearken unto me: hold your peace, and I will speak.
33:32 あなたがもし言うべきことがあるなら、／わたしに答えよ、／語れ、わたしはあなたを正しい者にしようと／望むからだ。
33:32 If you have anything to say, answer me: speak, for I desire to justify you.
33:33 もし語ることがないなら、わたしに聞け、／黙せよ、わたしはあなたに知恵を教えよう」。
33:33 If not, hearken unto me: hold your peace, and I shall teach you wisdom.
34:1 エリフはまた答えて言った、
34:1 Furthermore Elihu answered and said,
34:2 「あなたがた知恵ある人々よ、わたしの言葉を聞け、／あなたがた知識ある人々よ、わたしに耳を傾けよ。
34:2 Hear my words, O all of you wise men; and give ear unto me, all of you that have knowledge.
34:3 口が食物を味わうように、／耳は言葉をわきまえるからだ。
34:3 For the ear tries words, as the mouth tastes food.
34:4 われわれは正しい事を選び、／われわれの間に良い事の／何であるかを明らかにしよう。
34:4 Let us choose to us judgment: let us know among ourselves what is good.
34:5 ヨブは言った、『わたしは正しい、／神はわたしの公義を奪われた。
34:5 For Job has said, I am righteous: and God has taken away my judgment.
34:6 わたしは正しいにもかかわらず、偽る者とされた。わたしにはとががないけれども、／わたしの矢傷はいえない』と。
34:6 Should I lie against my right? my wound is incurable without transgression.
34:7 だれかヨブのような人があろう。彼はあざけりを水のように飲み、
34:7 What man is like Job, who drinks up scorning like water?
34:8 悪をなす者どもと交わり、悪人と共に歩む。
34:8 Which goes in company with the workers of iniquity, and walks with wicked men.
34:9 彼は言った、『人は神と親しんでも、／なんの益もない』と。
34:9 For he has said, It profits a man nothing that he should delight himself with God.
34:10 それであなたがた理解ある人々よ、わたしに聞け、／神は断じて悪を行うことなく、／全能者は断じて不義を行うことはない。
34:10 Therefore hearken unto me all of you men of understanding: far be it from God, that he should do wickedness; and from the Almighty, that he should commit iniquity.
34:11 神は人のわざにしたがってその身に報い、／おのおのの道にしたがって、／その身に振りかからせられる。
34:11 For the work of a man shall he render unto him, and cause every man to find according to his ways.
34:12 まことに神は悪しき事を行われない。全能者はさばきをまげられない。
34:12 Yea, surely God will not do wickedly, neither will the Almighty pervert judgment.
34:13 だれかこの地を彼にゆだねた者があるか。だれか全世界を彼に負わせた者があるか。
34:13 Who has given him a charge over the earth? or who has disposed the whole world?
34:14 神がもしその霊をご自分に取りもどし、／その息をご自分に取りあつめられるならば、
34:14 If he set his heart upon man, if he gather unto himself his spirit and his breath;
34:15 すべての肉は共に滅び、／人はちりに帰るであろう。
34:15 All flesh shall perish together, and man shall return unto dust.
34:16 もし、あなたに悟りがあるならば、これを聞け、／わたしの言うところに耳を傾けよ。
34:16 If now you have understanding, hear this: hearken to the voice of my words.
34:17 公義を憎む者は世を治めることができようか。正しく力ある者を、あなたは非難するであろうか。
34:17 Shall even he that hates right govern? and will you condemn him that is most just?
34:18 王たる者に向かって『よこしまな者』と言い、／つかさたる者に向かって、『悪しき者』と／言うことができるであろうか。
34:18 Is it fit to say to a king, You are wicked? and to princes, All of you are ungodly?
34:19 神は君たる者をもかたより見られることなく、／富める者を貧しき者にまさって／顧みられることはない。彼らは皆み手のわざだからである。
34:19 How much less to him that accepts not the persons of princes, nor regards the rich more than the poor? for they all are the work of his hands.
34:20 彼らはまたたく間に死に、／民は夜の間に振われて、消えうせ、／力ある者も人手によらずに除かれる。
34:20 In a moment shall they die, and the people shall be troubled at midnight, and pass away: and the mighty shall be taken away without hand.
34:21 神の目が人の道の上にあって、／そのすべての歩みを見られるからだ。
34:21 For his eyes are upon the ways of man, and he sees all his activities.
34:22 悪を行う者には身を隠すべき暗やみもなく、／暗黒もない。
34:22 There is no darkness, nor shadow of death, where the workers of iniquity may hide themselves.
34:23 人がさばきのために神の前に出るとき、／神は人のために時を定めておかれない。
34:23 For he will not lay upon man more than right; that he should enter into judgment with God.
34:24 彼は力ある者をも調べることなく打ち滅ぼし、／他の人々を立てて、これに替えられる。
34:24 He shall break in pieces mighty men without number, and set others in their position.
34:25 このように、神は彼らのわざを知り、／夜の間に彼らをくつがえされるので、／彼らはやがて滅びる。
34:25 Therefore he knows their works, and he overturns them in the night, so that they are destroyed.
34:26 彼は人々の見る所で、／彼らをその悪のために撃たれる。
34:26 He strikes them as wicked men in the open sight of others;
34:27 これは彼らがそむいて彼に従わず、／その道を全く顧みないからだ。
34:27 Because they turned back from him, and would not consider any of his ways:
34:28 こうして彼らは貧しき者の叫びを／彼のもとにいたらせ、／悩める者の叫びを彼に聞かせる。
34:28 So that they cause the cry of the poor to come unto him, and he hears the cry of the afflicted.
34:29 彼が黙っておられるとき、／だれが非難することができようか。彼が顔を隠されるとき、／だれが彼を見ることができようか。一国の上にも、一人の上にも同様だ。
34:29 When he gives quietness, who then can make trouble? and when he hides his face, who then can behold him? whether it be done against a nation, or against a man only:
34:30 これは神を信じない者が世を治めることがなく、／民をわなにかける事のないようにするためである。
34:30 That the hypocrite reign not, lest the people be ensnared.
34:31 だれが神に向かって言ったか、／『わたしは罪を犯さないのに、懲らしめられた。
34:31 Surely it is meet to be said unto God, I have borne chastisement, I will not offend any more:
34:32 わたしの見ないものをわたしに教えられたい。もしわたしが悪い事をしたなら、／重ねてこれをしない』と。
34:32 That which I see not teach you me: if I have done iniquity, I will do no more.
34:33 あなたが拒むゆえに、／彼はあなたの好むように報いをされるであろうか。あなたみずから選ぶがよい、わたしはしない。あなたの知るところを言いなさい。
34:33 Should it be according to your mind? he will recompense it, whether you refuse, or whether you choose; and not I: therefore speak what you know.
34:34 悟りある人々はわたしに言うだろう、／わたしに聞くところの知恵ある人は言うだろう、
34:34 Let men of understanding tell me, and let a wise man hearken unto me.
34:35 『ヨブの言うところは知識がなく、／その言葉は悟りがない』と。
34:35 Job has spoken without knowledge, and his words were without wisdom.
34:36 どうかヨブが終りまで試みられるように、／彼は悪人のように答えるからである。
34:36 My desire is that Job may be tried unto the end because of his answers for wicked men.
34:37 彼は自分の罪に、とがを加え、／われわれの中にあって手をうち、／神に逆らって、その言葉をしげくする」。
34:37 For he adds rebellion unto his sin, he claps his hands among us, and multiplies his words against God.
35:1 エリフはまた答えて言った、
35:1 Elihu spoke moreover, and said,
35:2 「あなたはこれを正しいと思うのか、／あなたは『神の前に自分は正しい』と言うのか。
35:2 Think you this to be right, that you said, My righteousness is more than God's?
35:3 あなたは言う、『これはわたしになんの益があるか、／罪を犯したのとくらべて／なんのまさるところがあるか』と。
35:3 For you said, What advantage will it be unto you? and, What profit shall I have, if I be cleansed from my sin?
35:4 わたしはあなたおよび、／あなたと共にいるあなたの友人たちに答えよう。
35:4 I will answer you, and your companions with you.
35:5 天を仰ぎ見よ、／あなたの上なる高き空を望み見よ。
35:5 Look unto the heavens, and see; and behold the clouds which are higher than you.
35:6 あなたが罪を犯しても、／彼になんのさしさわりがあるか。あなたのとがが多くても、彼に何をなし得ようか。
35:6 If you sin, what do you against him? or if your transgressions be multiplied, what do you unto him?
35:7 またあなたは正しくても、彼に何を与え得ようか。彼はあなたの手から何を受けられるであろうか。
35:7 If you be righteous, what give you him? or what receives he of yours hand?
35:8 あなたの悪はただあなたのような人にかかわり、／あなたの義はただ人の子にかかわるのみだ。
35:8 Your wickedness may hurt a man as you are; and your righteousness may profit the son of man.
35:9 しえたげの多いために叫び、／力ある者の腕のゆえに呼ばわる人々がある。
35:9 By reason of the multitude of oppressions they make the oppressed to cry: they cry out by reason of the arm of the mighty.
35:10 しかし、ひとりとして言う者はない、／『わが造り主なる神はどこにおられるか、／彼は夜の間に歌を与え、
35:10 But none says, Where is God my maker, who gives songs in the night;
35:11 地の獣よりも多く、われわれを教え、／空の鳥よりも、われわれを賢くされる方である』と。
35:11 Who teaches us more than the beasts of the earth, and makes us wiser than the fowls of heaven?
35:12 彼らが叫んでも答えられないのは、／悪しき者の高ぶりによる。
35:12 There they cry, but none gives answer, because of the pride of evil men.
35:13 まことに神はむなしい叫びを聞かれない。また全能者はこれを顧みられない。
35:13 Surely God will not hear vanity, neither will the Almighty regard it.
35:14 あなたが彼を見ないと言う時はなおさらだ。さばきは神の前にある。あなたは彼を待つべきである。
35:14 Although you says you shall not see him, yet judgment is before him; therefore trust you in him.
35:15 今彼が怒りをもって罰せず、／罪とがを深く心にとめられないゆえに
35:15 But now, because it is not so, he has visited in his anger; yet he knows it not in great extremity:
35:16 ヨブは口を開いてむなしい事を述べ、／無知の言葉をしげくする」。
35:16 Therefore does Job open his mouth in vain; he multiplies words without knowledge.
36:1 エリフは重ねて言った、
36:1 Elihu also proceeded, and said,
36:2 「しばらく待て、わたしはあなたに示すことがある。なお神のために言うべき事がある。
36:2 Suffer me a little, and I will show you that I have yet to speak on God's behalf.
36:3 わたしは遠くからわが知識を取り、／わが造り主に正義を帰する。
36:3 I will fetch my knowledge from far, and will ascribe righteousness to my Maker.
36:4 まことにわたしの言葉は偽らない。知識の全き者があなたと共にいる。
36:4 For truly my words shall not be false: he that is perfect in knowledge is with you.
36:5 見よ、神は力ある者であるが、／何をも卑しめられない、／その悟りの力は大きい。
36:5 Behold, God is mighty, and despises not any: he is mighty in strength and wisdom.
36:6 彼は悪しき者を生かしておかれない、／苦しむ者のためにさばきを行われる。
36:6 He perserves not the life of the wicked: but gives right to the poor.
36:7 彼は正しい者から目を離さず、／位にある王たちと共に、とこしえに、／彼らをすわらせて、尊くされる。
36:7 He withdraws not his eyes from the righteous: but with kings are they on the throne; yea, he does establish them for ever, and they are exalted.
36:8 もし彼らが足かせにつながれ、／悩みのなわに捕えられる時は、
36:8 And if they be bound in fetters, and be held in cords of affliction;
36:9 彼らの行いと、とがと、／その高ぶったふるまいを彼らに示し、
36:9 Then he shows them their work, and their transgressions that they have exceeded.
36:10 彼らの耳を開いて、教を聞かせ、／悪を離れて帰ることを命じられる。
36:10 He opens also their ear to discipline, and commands that they return from iniquity.
36:11 もし彼らが聞いて彼に仕えるならば、／彼らはその日を幸福に過ごし、その年を楽しく送るであろう。
36:11 If they obey and serve him, they shall spend their days in prosperity, and their years in pleasures.
36:12 しかし彼らが聞かないならば、つるぎによって滅び、／知識を得ないで死ぬであろう。
36:12 But if they obey not, they shall perish by the sword, and they shall die without knowledge.
36:13 心に神を信じない者どもは怒りをたくわえ、／神に縛られる時も、助けを呼び求めることをしない。
36:13 But the hypocrites in heart heap up wrath: they cry not when he binds them.
36:14 彼らは年若くして死に、／その命は恥のうちに終る。
36:14 They die in youth, and their life is among the unclean.
36:15 神は苦しむ者をその苦しみによって救い、／彼らの耳を逆境によって開かれる。
36:15 He delivers the poor in his affliction, and opens their ears in oppression.
36:16 神はまたあなたを悩みから、／束縛のない広い所に誘い出された。そしてあなたの食卓に置かれた物は／すべて肥えた物であった。
36:16 Even so would he have removed you out of the strait into a broad place, where there is no strictness; and that which should be set on your table should be full of fatness.
36:17 しかしあなたは悪人のうくべき／さばきをおのれに満たし、／さばきと公義はあなたを捕えている。
36:17 But you have fulfilled the judgment of the wicked: judgment and justice take hold on you.
36:18 あなたは怒りに誘われて、／あざけりに陥らぬように心せよ。あがないしろの大いなるがために、おのれを誤るな。
36:18 Because there is wrath, beware lest he take you away with his stroke: then a great ransom cannot deliver you.
36:19 あなたの叫びはあなたを守って、／悩みを免れさせるであろうか、／いかに力をつくしても役に立たない。
36:19 Will he esteem your riches? no, not gold, nor all the forces of strength.
36:20 人々がその所から断たれる／その夜を慕ってはならない。
36:20 Desire not the night, when people are cut off in their place.
36:21 慎んで悪に傾いてはならない。あなたは悩みよりもむしろこれを選んだからだ。
36:21 Take heed, regard not iniquity: for this have you chosen rather than affliction.
36:22 見よ、神はその力をもってあがめられる。だれか彼のように教える者があるか。
36:22 Behold, God exalts by his power: who teaches like him?
36:23 だれか彼のためにその道を定めた者があるか。だれか『あなたは悪い事をした』と／言いうる者があるか。
36:23 Who has commanded with authority him his way? or who can say, You have wrought iniquity?
36:24 神のみわざをほめたたえる事を忘れてはならない。これは人々の歌いあがめるところである。
36:24 Remember that you magnify his work, which men behold.
36:25 すべての人はこれを仰ぎ見る。人は遠くからこれを見るにすぎない。
36:25 Every man may see it; man may behold it far off.
36:26 見よ、神は大いなる者にいまして、／われわれは彼を知らない。その年の数も計り知ることができない。
36:26 Behold, God is great, and we know him not, neither can the number of his years be searched out.
36:27 彼は水のしたたりを引きあげ、／その霧をしたたらせて雨とされる。
36:27 For he makes small the drops of water: they pour down rain according to the vapour thereof:
36:28 空はこれを降らせて、人の上に豊かに注ぐ。
36:28 Which the clouds do drop and distil upon man abundantly.
36:29 だれか雲の広がるわけと、／その幕屋のとどろくわけとを／悟ることができようか。
36:29 Also can any understand the spreadings of the clouds, or the noise of his tabernacle?
36:30 見よ、彼はその光をおのれのまわりにひろげ、／また海の底をおおわれる。
36:30 Behold, he spreads his light upon it, and covers the bottom of the sea.
36:31 彼はこれらをもって民をさばき、／食物を豊かに賜い、
36:31 For by them judges he the people; he gives food in abundance.
36:32 いなずまをもってもろ手を包み、／これに命じて敵を打たせられる。
36:32 With clouds he covers the light; and commands it not to shine by the cloud that comes between.
36:33 そのとどろきは、／悪にむかって怒りに燃える彼を現す。
36:33 The noise thereof shows concerning it, the cattle also concerning the vapour.
37:1 これがためにわが心もまたわななき、／その所からとび離れる。
37:1 At this also my heart trembles, and is moved out of his place.
37:2 聞け、神の声のとどろきを、／またその口から出るささやきを。
37:2 Hear attentively the noise of his voice, and the sound that goes out of his mouth.
37:3 彼はこれを天が下に放ち、／その光を地のすみずみまで至らせられる。
37:3 He directs it under the whole heaven, and his lightning unto the ends of the earth.
37:4 その後、声とどろき、／彼はそのいかめしい声をもって鳴り渡られる。その声の聞える時、／彼はいなずまを引きとめられない。
37:4 After it a voice roars: he thunders with the voice of his excellency; and he will not stay them when his voice is heard.
37:5 神はその驚くべき声をもって鳴り渡り、／われわれの悟りえない大いなる事を行われる。
37:5 God thunders marvellously with his voice; great things does he, which we cannot comprehend.
37:6 彼は雪に向かって『地に降れ』と命じ、／夕立および雨に向かって『強く降れ』と命じられる。
37:6 For he says to the snow, Be you on the earth; likewise to the small rain, and to the great rain of his strength.
37:7 彼はすべての人の手を封じられる。これはすべての人にみわざを知らせるためである。
37:7 He seals up the hand of every man; that all men may know his work.
37:8 その時、獣は穴に入り、そのほらにとどまる。
37:8 Then the beasts go into dens, and remain in their places.
37:9 つむじ風はそのへやから、／寒さは北風から来る。
37:9 Out of the south comes the whirlwind: and cold out of the north.
37:10 神のいぶきによって氷が張り、／広々とした水は凍る。
37:10 By the breath of God frost is given: and the breadth of the waters is straitened.
37:11 彼は濃い雲に水気を負わせ、／雲はそのいなずまを散らす。
37:11 Also by watering he wearies the thick cloud: he scatters his bright cloud:
37:12 これは彼の導きによってめぐる。彼の命じるところをことごとく／世界のおもてに行うためである。
37:12 And it is turned round about by his counsels: that they may do whatsoever he commands them upon the face of the world in the earth.
37:13 神がこれらをこさせるのは、懲らしめのため、／あるいはその地のため、／あるいはいつくしみのためである。
37:13 He causes it to come, whether for correction, or for his land, or for mercy.
37:14 ヨブよ、これを聞け、／立って神のくすしきみわざを考えよ。
37:14 Hearken unto this, O Job: stand still, and consider the wondrous works of God.
37:15 あなたは知っているか、／神がいかにこれらに命じて、／その雲の光を輝かされるかを。
37:15 Do you know when God disposed them, and caused the light of his cloud to shine?
37:16 あなたは知っているか、雲のつりあいと、／知識の全き者のくすしきみわざを。
37:16 Do you know the balancings of the clouds, the wondrous works of him which is perfect in knowledge?
37:17 南風によって地が穏やかになる時、／あなたの着物が熱くなることを。
37:17 How your garments are warm, when he stills the earth by the south wind?
37:18 あなたは鋳た鏡のように堅い大空を、／彼のように張ることができるか。
37:18 Have you with him spread out the sky, which is strong, and as a molten looking glass?
37:19 われわれが彼に言うべき事をわれわれに教えよ、／われわれは暗くて、言葉をつらねることはできない。
37:19 Teach us what we shall say unto him; for we cannot order our speech by reason of darkness.
37:20 わたしは語ることがあると／彼に告げることができようか、／人は滅ぼされることを望むであろうか。
37:20 Shall it be told him that I speak? if a man speak, surely he shall be swallowed up.
37:21 光が空に輝いているとき、風過ぎて空を清めると、／人々はその光を見ることができない。
37:21 And now men see not the bright light which is in the clouds: but the wind passes, and cleanses them.
37:22 北から黄金のような輝きがでてくる。神には恐るべき威光がある。
37:22 Fair weather comes out of the north: with God is terrible majesty.
37:23 全能者は――／われわれはこれを見いだすことができない。彼は力と公義とにすぐれ、／正義に満ちて、これを曲げることはない。
37:23 Concerning the Almighty, we cannot find him out: he is excellent in power, and in judgment, and in plenty of justice: he will not afflict.
37:24 それゆえ、人々は彼を恐れる。彼はみずから賢いと思う者を顧みられない」。
37:24 Men do therefore fear him: he respects not any that are wise of heart.
38:1 この時、主はつむじ風の中からヨブに答えられた、
38:1 Then the LORD answered Job out of the whirlwind, and said,
38:2 「無知の言葉をもって、／神の計りごとを暗くするこの者はだれか。
38:2 Who is this that darkens counsel by words without knowledge?
38:3 あなたは腰に帯して、男らしくせよ。わたしはあなたに尋ねる、わたしに答えよ。
38:3 Gird up now your loins like a man; for I will demand of you, and answer you me.
38:4 わたしが地の基をすえた時、どこにいたか。もしあなたが知っているなら言え。
38:4 Where were you when I laid the foundations of the earth? declare, if you have understanding.
38:5 あなたがもし知っているなら、／だれがその度量を定めたか。だれが測りなわを地の上に張ったか。
38:5 Who has laid the measures thereof, if you know? or who has stretched the line upon it?
38:6 その土台は何の上に置かれたか。その隅の石はだれがすえたか。
38:6 Whereupon are the foundations thereof fastened? or who laid the corner stone thereof;
38:7 かの時には明けの星は相共に歌い、／神の子たちはみな喜び呼ばわった。
38:7 When the morning stars sang together, and all the sons of God shouted for joy?
38:8 海の水が流れいで、胎内からわき出たとき、／だれが戸をもって、これを閉じこめたか。
38:8 Or who shut up the sea with doors, when it brake forth, as if it had issued out of the womb?
38:9 あの時、わたしは雲をもって衣とし、／黒雲をもってむつきとし、
38:9 When I made the cloud the garment thereof, and thick darkness a swaddling band for it,
38:10 これがために境を定め、／関および戸を設けて、
38:10 And brake up for it my decreed place, and set bars and doors,
38:11 言った、『ここまで来てもよい、越えてはならぬ、／おまえの高波はここにとどまるのだ』と。
38:11 And said, Until now shall you come, but no further: and here shall your proud waves be stayed?
38:12 あなたは生れた日からこのかた朝に命じ、／夜明けにその所を知らせ、
38:12 Have you commanded the morning since your days; and caused the dayspring to know his place;
38:13 これに地の縁をとらえさせ、／悪人をその上から振り落させたことがあるか。
38:13 That it might take hold of the ends of the earth, that the wicked might be shaken out of it?
38:14 地は印せられた土のように変り、／衣のようにいろどられる。
38:14 It is turned as clay to the seal; and they stand as a garment.
38:15 悪人はその光を奪われ、／その高くあげた腕は折られる。
38:15 And from the wicked their light is withheld, and the high arm shall be broken.
38:16 あなたは海の源に行ったことがあるか。淵の底を歩いたことがあるか。
38:16 Have you entered into the springs of the sea? or have you walked in the search of the depth?
38:17 死の門はあなたのために開かれたか。あなたは暗黒の門を見たことがあるか。
38:17 Have the gates of death been opened unto you? or have you seen the doors of the shadow of death?
38:18 あなたは地の広さを見きわめたか。もしこれをことごとく知っているならば言え。
38:18 Have you perceived the breadth of the earth? declare if you know it all.
38:19 光のある所に至る道はいずれか。暗やみのある所はどこか。
38:19 Where is the way where light dwells? and as for darkness, where is the place thereof,
38:20 あなたはこれをその境に導くことができるか。その家路を知っているか。
38:20 That you should take it to the bound thereof, and that you should know the paths to the house thereof?
38:21 あなたは知っているだろう、／あなたはかの時すでに生れており、／またあなたの日数も多いのだから。
38:21 Know you it, because you were then born? or because the number of your days is great?
38:22 あなたは雪の倉にはいったことがあるか。ひょうの倉を見たことがあるか。
38:22 Have you entered into the treasures of the snow? or have you seen the treasures of the hail,
38:23 これらは悩みの時のため、いくさと戦いの日のため、／わたしがたくわえて置いたものだ。
38:23 Which I have reserved against the time of trouble, against the day of battle and war?
38:24 光の広がる道はどこか。東風の地に吹き渡る道はどこか。
38:24 By what way is the light parted, which scatters the east wind upon the earth?
38:25 だれが大雨のために水路を切り開き、／いかずちの光のために道を開き、
38:25 Who has divided a watercourse for the overflowing of waters, or a way for the lightning of thunder;
38:26 人なき地にも、人なき荒野にも雨を降らせ、
38:26 To cause it to rain on the earth, where no man is; on the wilderness, wherein there is no man;
38:27 荒れすたれた地をあき足らせ、／これに若草をはえさせるか。
38:27 To satisfy the desolate and waste ground; and to cause the bud of the tender herb to spring forth?
38:28 雨に父があるか。露の玉はだれが生んだか。
38:28 Has the rain a father? or who has begotten the drops of dew?
38:29 氷はだれの胎から出たか。空の霜はだれが生んだか。
38:29 Out of whose womb came the ice? and the hoary frost of heaven, who has gendered it?
38:30 水は固まって石のようになり、淵のおもては凍る。
38:30 The waters are hid as with a stone, and the face of the deep is frozen.
38:31 あなたはプレアデスの鎖を結ぶことができるか。オリオンの綱を解くことができるか。
38:31 Can you bind the sweet influences of Pleiades, or loose the bands of Orion?
38:32 あなたは十二宮をその時にしたがって／引き出すことができるか。北斗とその子星を導くことができるか。
38:32 Can you bring forth Mazzaroth in his season? or can you guide Arcturus with his sons?
38:33 あなたは天の法則を知っているか、／そのおきてを地に施すことができるか。
38:33 Know you the ordinances of heaven? can you set the dominion thereof in the earth?
38:34 あなたは声を雲にあげ、／多くの水にあなたをおおわせることができるか。
38:34 Can you lift up your voice to the clouds, that abundance of waters may cover you?
38:35 あなたはいなずまをつかわして行かせ、／『われわれはここにいる』と、／あなたに言わせることができるか。
38:35 Can you send lightnings, that they may go and say unto you, Here we are?
38:36 雲に知恵を置き、／霧に悟りを与えたのはだれか。
38:36 Who has put wisdom in the inward parts? or who has given understanding to the heart?
38:37 だれが知恵をもって雲を数えることができるか。だれが天の皮袋を傾けて、
38:37 Who can number the clouds in wisdom? or who can stay the bottles of heaven,
38:38 ちりを一つに流れ合わさせ、／土くれを固まらせることができるか。
38:38 When the dust grows into hardness, and the clods cleave fast together?
38:39 あなたはししのために食物を狩り、／子じしの食欲を満たすことができるか。
38:39 Will you hunt the prey for the lion? or fill the appetite of the young lions,
38:40 彼らがほら穴に伏し、／林のなかに待ち伏せする時、／あなたはこの事をなすことができるか。
38:40 When they couch in their dens, and abide in the covert to lie in wait?
38:41 からすの子が神に向かって呼ばわり、／食物がなくて、さまようとき、／からすにえさを与える者はだれか。
38:41 Who provides for the raven his food? when his young ones cry unto God, they wander for lack of food.
39:1 あなたは岩間のやぎが／子を産むときを知っているか。あなたは雌じかが子を産むのを見たことがあるか。
39:1 Know you the time when the wild goats of the rock bring forth? or can you mark when the hinds do calve?
39:2 これらの妊娠の月を数えることができるか。これらが産む時を知っているか。
39:2 Can you number the months that they fulfill? or know you the time when they bring forth?
39:3 これらは身をかがめて子を産み、／そのはらみ子を産みいだす。
39:3 They bow themselves, they bring forth their young ones, they cast out their sorrows.
39:4 その子は強くなって、野に育ち、／出て行って、その親のもとに帰らない。
39:4 Their young ones are in good looking, they grow up with corn; they go forth, and return not unto them.
39:5 だれが野ろばを放って、自由にしたか。だれが野ろばのつなぎを解いたか。
39:5 Who has sent out the wild ass free? or who has loosed the bands of the wild ass?
39:6 わたしは荒野をその家として与え、／荒れ地をそのすみかとして与えた。
39:6 Whose house I have made the wilderness, and the barren land his dwellings.
39:7 これは町の騒ぎをいやしめ、／御者の呼ぶ声を聞きいれず、
39:7 He scorns the multitude of the city, neither regards he the crying of the driver.
39:8 山を牧場としてはせまわり、／もろもろの青物を尋ね求める。
39:8 The range of the mountains is his pasture, and he searches after every green thing.
39:9 野牛は快くあなたに仕え、／あなたの飼葉おけのかたわらにとどまるだろうか。
39:9 Will the unicorn (p. ox) be willing to serve you, or abide by your crib?
39:10 あなたは野牛に手綱をつけて／うねを歩かせることができるか、／これはあなたに従って谷を耕すであろうか。
39:10 Can you bind the unicorn (p. ox) with his band in the furrow? or will he harrow the valleys after you?
39:11 その力が強いからとて、／あなたはこれに頼むであろうか。またあなたの仕事をこれに任せるであろうか。
39:11 Will you trust him, because his strength is great? or will you leave your labour to him?
39:12 あなたはこれにたよって、あなたの穀物を／打ち場に運び帰らせるであろうか。
39:12 Will you believe him, that he will bring home your seed, and gather it into your barn?
39:13 だちょうは威勢よくその翼をふるう。しかしこれにはきれいな羽と羽毛があるか。
39:13 Gave you the goodly wings unto the peacocks? or wings and feathers unto the ostrich?
39:14 これはその卵を土の中に捨て置き、／これを砂のなかで暖め、
39:14 Which left her eggs in the earth, and warms them in dust,
39:15 足でつぶされることも、／野の獣に踏まれることも忘れている。
39:15 And forgets that the foot may crush them, or that the wild beast may break them.
39:16 これはその子に無情であって、／あたかも自分の子でないようにし、／その苦労のむなしくなるをも恐れない。
39:16 She is hardened against her young ones, as though they were not her's: her labour is in vain without fear;
39:17 これは神がこれに知恵を授けず、／悟りを与えなかったゆえである。
39:17 Because God has deprived her of wisdom, neither has he imparted to her understanding.
39:18 これがその身を起して走る時には、／馬をも、その乗り手をもあざける。
39:18 What time she lifts up herself on high, she scorns the horse and his rider.
39:19 あなたは馬にその力を与えることができるか。力をもってその首を装うことができるか。
39:19 Have you given the horse strength? have you clothed his neck with thunder?
39:20 あなたはこれをいなごのように、／とばせることができるか。その鼻あらしの威力は恐ろしい。
39:20 Can you make him afraid as a grasshopper? the glory of his nostrils is terrible.

39:21 He paws in the valley, and rejoices in his strength: he goes on to meet the armed men.

39:22 He mocks at fear, and is not affrighted; neither turns he back from the sword.
39:23 矢筒はその上に鳴り、／やりと投げやりと、あいきらめく。
39:23 The quiver rattles against him, the glittering spear and the shield.
39:24 これはたけりつ、狂いつ、地をひとのみにし、／ラッパの音が鳴り渡っても、立ちどまることがない。
39:24 He swallows the ground with fierceness and rage: neither believes he that it is the sound of the trumpet.
39:25 これはラッパの鳴るごとにハアハアと言い、／遠くから戦いをかぎつけ、／隊長の大声およびときの声を聞き知る。
39:25 He says among the trumpets, Ha, ha; and he smells the battle far off, the thunder of the captains, and the shouting.
39:26 たかが舞いあがり、その翼をのべて南に向かうのは、／あなたの知恵によるのか、
39:26 Does the hawk fly by your wisdom, and stretch her wings toward the south?
39:27 わしがかけのぼり、その巣を高い所につくるのは、／あなたの命令によるのか。
39:27 Does the eagle mount up at your command, and make her nest on high?
39:28 これは岩の上にすみかを構え、／岩のとがり、または険しい所におり、
39:28 She dwells and abides on the rock, upon the crag of the rock, and the strong place.
39:29 そこから獲物をうかがう。その目の及ぶところは遠い。
39:29 From thence she seeks the prey, and her eyes behold far off.
39:30 そのひなもまた血を吸う。おおよそ殺された者のある所には、／これもそこにいる」。
39:30 Her young ones also suck up blood: and where the slain are, there is she.
40:1 主はまたヨブに答えて言われた、
40:1 Moreover the LORD answered Job, and said,
40:2 「非難する者が全能者と争おうとするのか、／神と論ずる者はこれに答えよ」。
40:2 Shall he that contends with the Almighty instruct him? he that reproves God, let him answer it.
40:3 そこで、ヨブは主に答えて言った、
40:3 Then Job answered the LORD, and said,
40:4 「見よ、わたしはまことに卑しい者です、／なんとあなたに答えましょうか。ただ手を口に当てるのみです。
40:4 Behold, I am vile; what shall I answer you? I will lay mine hand upon my mouth.
40:5 わたしはすでに一度言いました、また言いません、／すでに二度言いました、重ねて申しません」。
40:5 Once have I spoken; but I will not answer: yea, twice; but I will proceed no further.
40:6 主はまたつむじ風の中からヨブに答えられた、
40:6 Then answered the LORD unto Job out of the whirlwind, and said,
40:7 「あなたは腰に帯して、男らしくせよ。わたしはあなたに尋ねる、わたしに答えよ。
40:7 Gird up your loins now like a man: I will demand of you, and declare you unto me.
40:8 あなたはなお、わたしに責任を負わそうとするのか。あなたはわたしを非とし、／自分を是としようとするのか。
40:8 Will you also nullify my judgment? will you condemn me, that you may be righteous?
40:9 あなたは神のような腕を持っているのか、／神のような声でとどろきわたることができるか。
40:9 Have you an arm like God? or can you thunder with a voice like him?
40:10 あなたは威光と尊厳とをもってその身を飾り、／栄光と華麗とをもってその身を装ってみよ。
40:10 Deck yourself now with majesty and excellency; and array yourself with glory and beauty.
40:11 あなたのあふるる怒りを漏らし、／すべての高ぶる者を見て、これを低くせよ。
40:11 Cast abroad the rage of your wrath: and behold every one that is proud, and bring low him.
40:12 すべての高ぶる者を見て、これをかがませ、／また悪人をその所で踏みつけ、
40:12 Look on every one that is proud, and bring him low; and tread down the wicked in their place.
40:13 彼らをともにちりの中にうずめ、／その顔を隠れた所に閉じこめよ。
40:13 Hide them in the dust together; and bind their faces in secret.
40:14 そうすれば、わたしもまた、あなたをほめて、／あなたの右の手は／あなたを救うことができるとしよう。
40:14 Then will I also confess unto you that yours own right hand can save you.
40:15 河馬を見よ、／これはあなたと同様にわたしが造ったもので、／牛のように草を食う。
40:15 Behold now behemoth, which I made with you; he eats grass as an ox.
40:16 見よ、その力は腰にあり、／その勢いは腹の筋にある。
40:16 Lo now, his strength is in his loins, and his force is in the navel of his belly.
40:17 これはその尾を香柏のように動かし、／そのももの筋は互にからみ合う。
40:17 He moves his tail like a cedar: the sinews of his stones are wrapped together.
40:18 その骨は青銅の管のようで、／その肋骨は鉄の棒のようだ。
40:18 His bones are as strong pieces of brass; his bones are like bars of iron.
40:19 これは神のわざの第一のものであって、／これを造った者がこれにつるぎを授けた。
40:19 He is the chief of the ways of God: he that made him can make his sword to approach unto him.
40:20 山もこれがために食物をいだし、／もろもろの野の獣もそこに遊ぶ。
40:20 Surely the mountains bring him forth food, where all the beasts of the field play.
40:21 これは酸棗の木の下に伏し、／葦の茂み、または沼に隠れている。
40:21 He lies under the shady trees, in the covert of the reed, and fens.
40:22 酸棗の木はその陰でこれをおおい、／川の柳はこれをめぐり囲む。
40:22 The shady trees cover him with their shadow; the willows of the brook compass him about.
40:23 見よ、たとい川が荒れても、これは驚かない。ヨルダンがその口に注ぎかかっても、／これはあわてない。
40:23 Behold, he drinks up a river, and hastes not: he trusts that he can draw up Jordan into his mouth.

40:24 He takes it with his eyes: his nose pierces through snares.
41:1 あなたはつり針で／わにをつり出すことができるか。糸でその舌を押えることができるか。
41:1 Can you draw out leviathan (p. sea serpent) with an hook? or his tongue with a cord which you let down?
41:2 あなたは葦のなわをその鼻に通すことができるか。つり針でそのあごを突き通すことができるか。
41:2 Can you put an hook into his nose? or bore his jaw through with a thorn?
41:3 これはしきりに、あなたに願い求めるであろうか。柔らかな言葉をあなたに語るであろうか。
41:3 Will he make many supplications unto you? will he speak soft words unto you?

41:4 Will he make a covenant with you? will you take him for a servant for ever?

41:5 Will you play with him as with a bird? or will you bind him for your maidens?

41:6 Shall the companions make a banquet of him? shall they part him among the merchants?

41:7 Can you fill his skin with barbed irons? or his head with fish spears?

41:8 Lay yours hand upon him, remember the battle, do no more.
41:9 見よ、その望みはむなしくなり、／これを見てすら倒れる。
41:9 Behold, the hope of him is in vain: shall not one be cast down even at the sight of him?
41:10 あえてこれを激する勇気のある者はひとりもない。それで、だれがわたしの前に立つことができるか。
41:10 None is so fierce that dare stir him up: who then is able to stand before me?
41:11 だれが先にわたしに与えたので、／わたしはこれに報いるのか。天が下にあるものは、ことごとくわたしのものだ。
41:11 Who has prevented me, that I should repay him? whatsoever is under the whole heaven is mine.
41:12 わたしはこれが全身と、その著しい力と、／その美しい構造について／黙っていることはできない。
41:12 I will not conceal his parts, nor his power, nor his comely proportion.
41:13 だれがその上着をはぐことができるか。だれがその二重のよろいの間に／はいることができるか。
41:13 Who can discover the face of his garment? or who can come to him with his double bridle?
41:14 だれがその顔の戸を開くことができるか。そのまわりの歯は恐ろしい。
41:14 Who can open the doors of his face? his teeth are terrible round about.
41:15 その背は盾の列でできていて、／その堅く閉じたさまは密封したように、
41:15 His scales are his pride, shut up together as with a close seal.
41:16 相互に密接して、／風もその間に、はいることができず、
41:16 One is so near to another, that no air can come between them.
41:17 互に相連なり、／固く着いて離すことができない。
41:17 They are joined one to another, they stick together, that they cannot be sundered.
41:18 これが、くしゃみすれば光を発し、／その目はあけぼののまぶたに似ている。
41:18 By his exhaling a light does shine, and his eyes are like the eyelids of the morning.
41:19 その口からは、たいまつが燃えいで、／火花をいだす。
41:19 Out of his mouth go burning lamps, and sparks of fire leap out.
41:20 その鼻の穴からは煙が出てきて、／さながら煮え立つなべの水煙のごとく、／燃える葦の煙のようだ。
41:20 Out of his nostrils goes smoke, as out of a seething pot or caldron.
41:21 その息は炭火をおこし、／その口からは炎が出る。
41:21 His breath kindles coals, and a flame goes out of his mouth.
41:22 その首には力が宿っていて、／恐ろしさが、その前に踊っている。
41:22 In his neck remains strength, and sorrow is turned into joy before him.
41:23 その肉片は密接に相連なり、／固く身に着いて動かすことができない。
41:23 The flakes of his flesh are joined together: they are firm in themselves; they cannot be moved.
41:24 その心臓は石のように堅く、／うすの下石のように堅い。
41:24 His heart is as firm as a stone; yea, as hard as a piece of the nether millstone.
41:25 その身を起すときは勇士も恐れ、／その衝撃によってあわて惑う。
41:25 When he raises up himself, the mighty are afraid: by reason of breakings they purify themselves.
41:26 つるぎがこれを撃っても、きかない、／やりも、矢も、もりも用をなさない。
41:26 The sword of him that lays at him cannot hold: the spear, the dart, nor the armour of jacket.
41:27 これは鉄を見ること、わらのように、／青銅を見ること朽ち木のようである。
41:27 He esteems iron as straw, and brass as rotten wood.
41:28 弓矢もこれを逃がすことができない。石投げの石もこれには、わらくずとなる。
41:28 The arrow cannot make him flee: sling stones are turned with him into stubble.
41:29 こん棒もわらくずのようにみなされ、／投げやりの響きを、これはあざ笑う。
41:29 Darts are counted as stubble: he laughs at the shaking of a spear.
41:30 その下腹は鋭いかわらのかけらのようで、／麦こき板のようにその身を泥の上に伸ばす。
41:30 Sharp stones are under him: he spreads sharp pointed things upon the mire.
41:31 これは淵をかなえのように沸きかえらせ、／海を香油のなべのようにする。
41:31 He makes the deep to boil like a pot: he makes the sea like a pot of ointment.
41:32 これは自分のあとに光る道を残し、／淵をしらがのように思わせる。
41:32 He makes a path to shine after him; one would think the deep to be hoary.
41:33 地の上にはこれと並ぶものなく、／これは恐れのない者に造られた。
41:33 Upon earth there is not his like, who is made without fear.
41:34 これはすべての高き者をさげすみ、／すべての誇り高ぶる者の王である」。
41:34 He beholds all high things: he is a king over all the children of pride.
42:1 そこでヨブは主に答えて言った、
42:1 Then Job answered the LORD, and said,
42:2 「わたしは知ります、／あなたはすべての事をなすことができ、／またいかなるおぼしめしでも、／あなたにできないことはないことを。
42:2 I know that you can do every thing, and that no thought can be withheld from you.
42:3 『無知をもって神の計りごとをおおう／この者はだれか』。それゆえ、わたしはみずから悟らない事を言い、／みずから知らない、測り難い事を述べました。
42:3 Who is he that hides counsel without knowledge? therefore have I uttered that I understood not; things too wonderful for me, which I knew not.
42:4 『聞け、わたしは語ろう、／わたしはあなたに尋ねる、わたしに答えよ』。
42:4 Hear, I plead to you, and I will speak: I will demand of you, and declare you unto me.
42:5 わたしはあなたの事を耳で聞いていましたが、／今はわたしの目であなたを拝見いたします。
42:5 I have heard of you by the hearing of the ear: but now mine eye sees you.
42:6 それでわたしはみずから恨み、／ちり灰の中で悔います」。
42:6 Wherefore I detest myself, and repent in dust and ashes.
42:7 主はこれらの言葉をヨブに語られて後、テマンびとエリパズに言われた、／「わたしの怒りはあなたとあなたのふたりの友に向かって燃える。あなたがたが、わたしのしもべヨブのように正しい事をわたしについて述べなかったからである。
42:7 And it was so, that after the LORD had spoken these words unto Job, the LORD said to Eliphaz the Temanite, My wrath is kindled against you, and against your two friends: for all of you have not spoken of me the thing that is right, as my servant Job has.
42:8 それで今、あなたがたは雄牛七頭、雄羊七頭を取って、わたしのしもべヨブの所へ行き、あなたがたのために燔祭をささげよ。わたしのしもべヨブはあなたがたのために祈るであろう。わたしは彼の祈を受けいれるによって、あなたがたの愚かを罰することをしない。あなたがたはわたしのしもべヨブのように正しい事をわたしについてべなかったからである」。
42:8 Therefore take unto you now seven bullocks and seven rams, and go to my servant Job, and offer up for yourselves a burnt offering; and my servant Job shall pray for you: for him will I accept: lest I deal with you after your folly, in that all of you have not spoken of me the thing which is right, like my servant Job.
42:9 そこでテマンびとエリパズ、シュヒびとビルダデ、ナアマびとゾパルは行って、主が彼らに命じられたようにしたので、主はヨブの祈を受けいれられた。
42:9 So Eliphaz the Temanite and Bildad the Shuhite and Zophar the Naamathite went, and did according as the LORD commanded them: the LORD also accepted Job.
42:10 ヨブがその友人たちのために祈ったとき、主はヨブの繁栄をもとにかえし、そして主はヨブのすべての財産を二倍に増された。
42:10 And the LORD turned the captivity of Job, when he prayed for his friends: also the LORD gave Job twice as much as he had before.
42:11 そこで彼のすべての兄弟、すべての姉妹、および彼の旧知の者どもことごとく彼のもとに来て、彼と共にその家で飲み食いし、かつ主が彼にくだされたすべての災について彼をいたわり、慰め、おのおの銀一ケシタと金の輪一つを彼に贈った。
42:11 Then came there unto him all his brethren, and all his sisters, and all they that had been of his acquaintance before, and did eat bread with him in his house: and they bemoaned him, and comforted him over all the evil that the LORD had brought upon him: every man also gave him a piece of money, and every one an earring of gold.
42:12 主はヨブの終りを初めよりも多く恵まれた。彼は羊一万四千頭、らくだ六千頭、牛一千くびき、雌ろば一千頭をもった。
42:12 So the LORD blessed the latter end of Job more than his beginning: for he had fourteen thousand sheep, and six thousand camels, and a thousand yoke of oxen, and a thousand she asses.
42:13 また彼は男の子七人、女の子三人をもった。
42:13 He had also seven sons and three daughters.
42:14 彼はその第一の娘をエミマと名づけ、第二をケジアと名づけ、第三をケレン・ハップクと名づけた。
42:14 And he called the name of the first, Jemima; and the name of the second, Kezia; and the name of the third, Kerenhappuch.
42:15 全国のうちでヨブの娘たちほど美しい女はなかった。父はその兄弟たちと同様に嗣業を彼らにも与えた。
42:15 And in all the land were no women found so fair as the daughters of Job: and their father gave them inheritance among their brethren.
42:16 この後、ヨブは百四十年生きながらえて、その子とその孫と四代までを見た。
42:16 After this lived Job an hundred and forty years, and saw his sons, and his sons' sons, even four generations.
42:17 ヨブは年老い、日満ちて死んだ。
42:17 So Job died, being old and full of days.
