11:1 さて、一人の病人がいた。ラザロといい、マリヤとその姉妹の村ベタニヤの人であった。
11:1 Now a certain man was sick, named Lazarus, of Bethany, the town of Mary and her sister Martha.
11:2 このマリヤは主に香油をぬり、自分の髪の毛で、主の足をふいた女であって、病気であったのは、彼女の兄弟ラザロであった。
11:2 (It was that Mary which anointed the Lord with ointment, and wiped his feet with her hair, whose brother Lazarus was sick.)
11:3 姉妹たち人をイエスのもとにつかわして、「主よ、ただ今、あなたが愛しておられる者が病気をしています」と言わせた。
11:3 Therefore his sisters sent unto him, saying, Lord, behold, he whom you love is sick.
11:4 イエスはそれを聞いて言われた、「この病気は死ぬほどのものでない。それは神の栄光のため、また、神の子がそれによって栄光を受けるためのものである」。
11:4 When Jesus heard that, he said, This sickness is not unto death, but for the glory of God, that the Son of God might be glorified thereby.
11:5 イエスは、マルタとその姉妹とラザロとを愛しておられた。
11:5 Now Jesus loved Martha, and her sister, and Lazarus.
11:6 ラザロが病気であることを聞いてから、なおふつか、そのおられた所に滞在された。
11:6 When he had heard therefore that he was sick, he abode two days still in the same place where he was.
11:7 それから弟子たちに、「もう一度ユダヤに行こう」と言われた。
11:7 Then after that says he to his disciples, Let us go into Judaea again.
11:8 弟子たちは言った、「先生、ユダヤ人らが、さきほどもあなたを石で殺そうとしていましたのに、またそこに行かれるのですか」。
11:8 His disciples say unto him, Master, the Jews of late sought to stone you; and go you thither again?
11:9 イエスは答えられた、「一日には十二時間あるではないか。昼間あるけば、人はつまづくことはない。この世の光を見ているからである。
11:9 Jesus answered, Are there not twelve hours in the day? If any man walk in the day, he stumbles not, because he sees the light of this world.
11:10 しかし、夜あるけば、つまづく。その人のうちに、光がないからである」。
11:10 But if a man walk in the night, he stumbles, because there is no light in him.
11:11 そう言われたが、それかせまた、彼らに言われた、「わたしたちの友ラザロが眠っている。わたしは彼を起こしに行く」。
11:11 These things said he: and after that he says unto them, Our friend Lazarus sleeps; but I go, that I may awake him out of sleep.
11:12 すると弟子たちは言った、「主よ、眠っているのでしたら、助かるでしょう」。
11:12 Then said his disciples, Lord, if he sleep, he shall do well.
11:13 イエスはラザロが死んだことを言われたのであるが、弟子たちは、眠って休んでいることをさして言われたのだと思った。
11:13 Nevertheless Jesus spoke of his death: but they thought that he had spoken of taking of rest in sleep.
11:14 するとイエスは、あからさまに彼らに言われた、「ラザロは死んだのだ。
11:14 Then said Jesus unto them plainly, Lazarus is dead.
11:15 そして、わたしがそこにいあわせなかったことを、あなたがたのために喜ぶ。それは、あなたがたが信じるようになるためである。では、彼のところへ行こう」。
11:15 And I am glad for your sakes that I was not there, to the intent all of you may believe; nevertheless let us go unto him.
11:16 するとデドモと呼ばれているトマスが、仲間の弟子たちに言った、「わたしたちも行って、先生と一緒に死のうではないか」。
11:16 Then said Thomas, which is called Didymus, unto his fellow disciples, Let us also go, that we may die with him.
11:17 さて、イエスが行ってごらんになると、ラザロはすでに四日間も墓の中に置かれていた。
11:17 Then when Jesus came, he found that he had lain in the grave four days already.
11:18 ベタニヤはエルサレムに近く、二十五丁ばかり離れたところにあった。
11:18 Now Bethany was nigh unto Jerusalem, about fifteen furlongs off:
11:19 大ぜいのユダヤ人が、その兄弟のことで、マルタとマリヤとを慰めようとしてきていた。
11:19 And many of the Jews came to Martha and Mary, to comfort them concerning their brother.
11:20 マルタはイエスがこられたことを聞いて、出迎えに行ったが、マリヤは家ですわっていた。
11:20 Then Martha, as soon as she heard that Jesus was coming, went and met him: but Mary sat still in the house.
11:21 マルタはイエスに言った、「主よ、もしあなたがここにいて下さったなら、わたしの兄弟は死ななかったでしょう。
11:21 Then said Martha unto Jesus, Lord, if you had been here, my brother had not died.
11:22 しかし、あなたがどんなことをお願いになっても、神はかなえて下さることを、わたしは今でも存じています」。
11:22 But I know, that even now, whatsoever you will ask of God, God will give it you.
11:23 イエスはマルタに言われた、「あなたの兄弟はよみがえるであろう」。
11:23 Jesus says unto her, Your brother shall rise again.
11:24 マルタは言った、「終わりの日のよみがえりの時によみがえること、存じています」。
11:24 Martha says unto him, I know that he shall rise again in the resurrection at the last day.
11:25 イエスは彼女に言われた、「わたしがよみがえりであり、命である。わたしを信じる者は、たとい死んでも生きる。
11:25 Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believes in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live:
11:26 また、生きていて、わたしを信じる者は、いつまでも死なない。あなたはこれを信じるか」。
11:26 And whosoever lives and believes in me shall never die. Believe you this?
11:27 マルタはイエスに言った、「主よ、信じます。あなたがこの世にきたるべきキリスト、神の子であると信じております」。
11:27 She says unto him, Yea, Lord: I believe that you are the Christ, the Son of God, which should come into the world.
11:28 マルタはこう言ってから、帰って姉妹のマリヤを呼び、「先生がおいでになって、あなたを呼んでおられます」と小声で言った。
11:28 And when she had so said, she went her way, and called Mary her sister secretly, saying, The Master has come, and calls for you.
11:29 これを聞いたマリヤはすぐに立ち上がって、イエスのもとに行った。
11:29 As soon as she heard that, she arose quickly, and came unto him.
11:30 イエスはまだ村に、はいってこられず、マルタがお迎えしたその場所におられた。
11:30 Now Jesus was not yet come into the town, but was in that place where Martha met him.
11:31 マリヤと一緒に家にいて彼女を慰めていたユダヤ人たちは、マリヤが急いで立ち上がって出て行くのを見て、彼女は墓に泣きに行くのであろうと思い、そのあとからついて行った。
11:31 The Jews then which were with her in the house, and comforted her, when they saw Mary, that she rose up hastily and went out, followed her, saying, She goes unto the grave to weep there.
11:32 マリヤはイエスのおられる所に行ってお目にかかり、その足もとにひれ伏して言った、「主よ、もしあなたがここにいて下さったなら、わたしの兄弟は死ななかったでしょう」。
11:32 Then when Mary was come where Jesus was, and saw him, she fell down at his feet, saying unto him, Lord, if you had been here, my brother had not died.
11:33 イエスは、彼女が泣き、また、彼女と一緒にきたユダヤ人たちも泣いているのをごらんになり、激しく感動し、また心を騒がせ、そして言われた、
11:33 When Jesus therefore saw her weeping, and the Jews also weeping which came with her, he groaned in the spirit, (o. pneuma) and was troubled.
11:34 「彼をどこに置いたのか」。彼らはイエスに言った、「主よ、きて、ごらん下さい」。
11:34 And said, Where have all of you laid him? They said unto him, Lord, come and see.
11:35 イエスは涙を流された。
11:35 Jesus wept.
11:36 するとユダヤ人たちは言った、「ああ、なんと彼を愛しておられたことか」。
11:36 Then said the Jews, Behold how he loved him!
11:37 しかし、彼らのある人たちは言った、「あの盲人の目をあけたこの人でも、ラザロを死なせないようには、できなかったのか」。
11:37 And some of them said, Could not this man, which opened the eyes of the blind, have caused that even this man should not have died?
11:38 イエスはまた激しく感動して、墓にはいられた。それは洞穴であって、そこに石がはめてあった。
11:38 Jesus therefore again groaning in himself comes to the grave. It was a cave, and a stone lay upon it.
11:39 イエスは言われた、「石を取りのけなさい」。死んだラザロの姉妹マルタが言った、「主よ、もう臭くなっております。四日もたっていますから」。
11:39 Jesus said, Take all of you away the stone. Martha, the sister of him that was dead, says unto him, Lord, by this time he stinks: for he has been dead four days.
11:40 イエスは彼女に言われた、「もし信じるなら神の栄光を見るであろうと、あなたに言ったではないか」。
11:40 Jesus says unto her, Said I not unto you, that, if you would believe, you should see the glory of God?
11:41 人々は石を取りのけた。すると、イエスは目を天にむけて言われた、「父よ、わたしの願いをお聞き下さったことを感謝します。
11:41 Then they took away the stone from the place where the dead was laid. And Jesus lifted up his eyes, and said, Father, I thank you that you have heard me.
11:42 あなたがいつでもわたしの願いを聞きいれて下さることを、よく知っています。しかし、こう申しますのは、そばに立っている人々に、あなたがわたしをつかわされたことを、信じさせるためであります」。
11:42 And I knew that you hear me always: but because of the people which stand by I said it, that they may believe that you have sent me.
11:43 こう言いながら、大声で「ラザロよ、出てきなさい」と呼ばわれた。
11:43 And when he thus had spoken, he cried with a loud voice, Lazarus, come forth.
11:44 すると、死人は手足を布でまかれ、顔も顔おおいで包まれたまま、出てきた。イエスは人々に言われた、「彼をほどいてやって、帰らせなさい」。
11:44 And he that was dead came forth, bound hand and foot with grave clothes: and his face was bound about with a cloth. Jesus says unto them, Loose him, and let him go.
11:45 マリヤのところにきて、イエスのなさったことを見た多くのユダヤ人たちは、イエスを信じた。
11:45 Then many of the Jews which came to Mary, and had seen the things which Jesus did, believed on him.
11:46 しかし、そのうちの数人がパリサイ人たちのところに行って、イエスのされたことを告げた。
11:46 But some of them went their ways to the Pharisees, and told them what things Jesus had done.
11:47 そこで、祭司長たちとパリサイ人たちとは、議会を召集して言った、「この人が多くのしるしを行っているのに、お互いは何をしているのだ。
11:47 Then gathered the chief priests and the Pharisees a council, and said, What do we? for this man does many miracles.
11:48 もしこのままにしておけば、みんなが彼を信じるようになるだろう。そのうえ、ローマ人がやってきて、わたしたちの土地も人民も奪ってしまうであろう」。
11:48 If we let him thus alone, all men will believe on him: and the Romans shall come and take away both our place and nation.
11:49 彼らのうちのひとりで、その年の大祭司であったカヤパが、彼らに言った、「あなたがたには、何もわかっていないし、
11:49 And one of them, named Caiaphas, being the high priest that same year, said unto them, All of you know nothing at all,
11:50 ひとりの人が人民に代って死んで、全国民が滅びないようにかるのがわたしたちにとって得だということを、考えてもいない」。
11:50 Nor consider that it is expedient for us, that one man should die for the people, and that the whole nation perish not.
11:51 このことは彼が自分から言ったのではない。彼はこの年の大祭司であったので、預言をして、イエスが国民のために、
11:51 And this spoke he not of himself: but being high priest that year, he prophesied that Jesus should die for that nation;
11:52 ただ国民のためだけではなく、また散在している神の子らを一つに集めるために、死ぬことになっていると、言ったのである。
11:52 And not for that nation only, but that also he should gather together in one the children of God that were scattered abroad.
11:53 彼らはこの日からイエスを殺そうと相談した。
11:53 Then from that day forth they took counsel together in order to put him to death.
11:54 そのためイエスは、もはや公然とユダヤ人の間を歩かないで、そこを出て、荒野に近い地方のエフライムという町に行かれ、そこに弟子たちと一緒に滞在しておられた。
11:54 Jesus therefore walked no more openly among the Jews; but went thence unto a country near to the wilderness, into a city called Ephraim, and there continued with his disciples.
11:55 さて、ユダヤ人の過越の祭が近づいたので、多くの人々は身をきよめるために、祭の前に、地方からエルサレムへ上った。
11:55 And the Jews' passover was nigh at hand: and many went out of the country up to Jerusalem before the passover, to purify themselves.
11:56 人々はイエスを捜し求め、宮の庭に立って互いに言った、「あなたがたはどう思うか、イエスはこの祭にこないのだろうか」。
11:56 Then sought they for Jesus, and spoke among themselves, as they stood in the temple, What think all of you, that he will not come to the feast?
11:57 祭司長たちとパリサイ人たちとは、イエスを捕らえようとして、そのいどころを知っている者があれば申し出よ、という指令を出していた。
11:57 Now both the chief priests and the Pharisees had given a commandment, that, if any man knew where he were, he should show it, that they might take him.
12:1 過越の祭の六日まえに、イエスはベタニヤに行かれた。そこは、イエスが死人の中からよみがえらせたラザロのいた所である。
12:1 Then Jesus six days before the passover came to Bethany, where Lazarus was, which had been dead, whom he raised from the dead.
12:2 イエスのためにそこで夕食が用意された。マルタは給仕をしていた。イエスと一緒に食卓についていた者のうちに、ラザロも加わっていた。
12:2 There they made him a supper; and Martha served: but Lazarus was one of them that sat at the table with him.
12:3 その時、マリヤは高価で純粋なナルドの香油一斤を持ってきて、イエスの足にぬり、自分の髪の毛でそれをふいた。すると、香油のかおりが家にいっぱいになった。
12:3 Then took Mary a pound of ointment of spikenard, very costly, and anointed the feet of Jesus, and wiped his feet with her hair: and the house was filled with the odour of the ointment.
12:4 弟子のひとりで、イエスを裏切ろうとしていたイスカリオテのユダが言った、
12:4 Then says one of his disciples, Judas Iscariot, Simon's son, which should betray him,
12:5 「なぜこの香油を三百デナリに売って、貧しい人たちに、施さなかったのか」。
12:5 Why was not this ointment sold for three hundred pence, and given to the poor?
12:6 彼がこう言ったのは、貧しい人たちに対する思いやりがあったからではなく、自分が盗人であり、財布を預かっていて、その中身をこまかしていたからであった。
12:6 This he said, not that he cared for the poor; but because he was a thief, and had the bag, and bare what was put therein.
12:7 イエスは言われた、「この女のするままにさせておきなさい。わたしの葬りの日のために、それをとっておいたのだから。
12:7 Then said Jesus, Let her alone: against the day of my burying has she kept this.
12:8 貧しい人たちはいつもあなたがたと共にいが、わたしはいつも共にいるわけではない」。
12:8 For the poor always all of you have with you; but me all of you have not always.
12:9 大ぜいのユダヤ人たちが、そこにイエスのおられるのを知って、押しよせてきた。それはイエスに会うためだけではなく、イエスが死人のなかから、よみがえらせたラザロを見るためでもあった。
12:9 Much people of the Jews therefore knew that he was there: and they came not for Jesus' sake only, but that they might see Lazarus also, whom he had raised from the dead.
12:10 そこで祭司長たちは、ラザロも殺そうと相談した。
12:10 But the chief priests consulted that they might put Lazarus also to death;
12:11 それは、ラザロのことで、多くのユダヤ人が彼らを離れ去って、イエスを信じるように至ったからである。
12:11 Because that by reason of him many of the Jews went away, and believed on Jesus.
12:12 その翌日、祭にきていた大ぜいの群衆は、イエスがエルサレムにこられると聞いて、
12:12 On the next day much people that were come to the feast, when they heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem,
12:13 しゅろの枝を手にとり、迎えに出て行った、そして叫んだ、「ホサナ、主の御名によってきたる者に祝福あれ、イスラエルの王に」。
12:13 Took branches of palm trees, and went forth to meet him, and cried, Hosanna: Blessed is the King of Israel that comes in the name of the Lord.
12:14 イエスは、ろばの子を見つけて、その上に乗られた。それは、
12:14 And Jesus, when he had found a young ass, sat thereon; as it is written,
12:15 「シオンの娘よ、恐れるな。見よ、あなたの王がろばの子に乗っておいでになる」と書いてあるとおりであった。
12:15 Fear not, daughter of Sion: behold, your King comes, sitting on an ass's colt.
12:16 弟子たちは初めにはこのことを悟らなかったが、イエスが栄光を受けられた時に、このことがイエスについて書かれてあり、またそのとおりに、人々がイエスに対してしたのだということを、思い起こした。
12:16 These things understood not his disciples at the first: but when Jesus was glorified, then remembered they that these things were written of him, and that they had done these things unto him.
12:17 また、イエスがラザロを墓から呼び出して、死人の中からよみがえらせたとき、イエスと一緒にいた群衆が、そのあかしをした。
12:17 The people therefore that was with him when he called Lazarus out of his grave, and raised him from the dead, bare record.
12:18 群衆がイエスを迎えに出たのは、イエスがこのようなしるしを行われたことを、聞いていたからである。
12:18 For this cause the people also met him, for that they heard that he had done this miracle.
12:19 そこで、パリサイ人たちは互いに言った、「何をしてもむだだった。世をあげて彼のあとを追って行ったではないか」。
12:19 The Pharisees therefore said among themselves, Perceive all of you how all of you prevail nothing? behold, the world is gone after him.
12:20 祭で礼拝をするために上ってきた人々のうちに、数人のギリシャ人がいた。
12:20 And there were certain Greeks among them that came up to worship at the feast:
12:11 彼らはガリラヤのベッサイダ出であるピリポのところにきて、「君よ、イエスにお目にかかりたいのですが」と言って頼んだ。
12:21 The same came therefore to Philip, which was of Bethsaida of Galilee, and desired him, saying, Sir, we would see Jesus.
12:22 ピリポはアンデレのところに行ってそのことを話し、アンデレとピリポは、イエスのもとに行って伝えた。
12:22 Philip comes and tells Andrew: and again Andrew and Philip tell Jesus.
12:23 すると、イエスは答えて言われた、「人の子が栄光を受ける時がきた。
12:23 And Jesus answered them, saying, The hour has come, that the Son of man should be glorified.
12:24 よくよくあなたがたに言っておく。一粒の麦がちに落ちて死ななければ、それはただ一粒のままである。しかし、もし死んだなら、豊かに実を結ぶようになる。
12:24 Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except a corn of wheat fall into the ground and die, it abides alone: but if it die, it brings forth much fruit.
12:25 自分の命を愛する者はそれを失い、この世で自分の命を憎む者は、それを保って永遠の命に至るであろう。
12:25 He that loves his life shall lose it; and he that hates his life in this world shall keep it unto life eternal.
12:26 もしわたしに仕えようとする人があれば、その人はわたしに従って来るがよい。そうすれば、わたしのおる所に、わたしに仕える者もまた、おるであろう。もしわたしに仕えようとする人があれば、その人は父を重んじて下さるであろう。
12:26 If any man serve me, let him follow me; and where I am, there shall also my servant be: if any man serve me, him will my Father honour.
12:27 今わたしは心が騒いでいる。わたしはなんと言おうか。父よ、この時からわたしをお救い下さい。しかし、わたしはこのために、この世に至ったのです。
12:27 Now is my soul troubled; and what shall I say? Father, save me from this hour: but for this cause came I unto this hour.
12:28 父よ、み名があがめられますように」。すると天から声があった、「わたしはすでに栄光をあらわした。そして、更にそれをあらわすであろう」。
12:28 Father, glorify your name. Then came there a voice from heaven, saying, I have both glorified it, and will glorify it again.
12:29 すると、そこに立っていた群衆がこれを聞いて、「雷がなったのだ」と言い、ほかの人たちは、「御使が彼に話しかけたのだ」と言った。
12:29 The people therefore, that stood by, and heard it, said that it thundered: others said, An angel spoke to him.
12:30 イエスは答えて言われた、「この声があったのは、わたしのためではなく、あなたがたのためである。
12:30 Jesus answered and said, This voice came not because of me, but for your sakes.
12:31 今はこの世がさばかれる時である。今こそこの世の君は追い出されるであろう。
12:31 Now is the judgment of this world: now shall the prince of this world be cast out.
12:32 そして、わたしがこの地から上げられる時には、すべての人をわたしのところに引きよせるであろう」。
12:32 And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me.
12:33 イエスはこう言って、自分がどんな死に方で死のうとしていたかを、お示しになったのである。
12:33 This he said, signifying what death he should die.
12:34 すると群衆はイエスにむかって言った、「わたしたちは律法によって、キリストはいつまでも生きておいでになるのだ、と聞いていました。それだのに、どうして人の子は上げられねばならないと、言われるのですか。その人の子とは、だれのことですか」。
12:34 The people answered him, We have heard out of the law that Christ abides for ever: and how says you, The Son of man must be lifted up? who is this Son of man?
12:35 そこでイエスはかれらに言われた、「もうしばらくの間、光はあなたがたと一緒にここにある。光がある間に歩いて、やみに追いつかれないようにしなさい。闇の中を歩く者は、自分がどこへ行くのかわかっていない。
12:35 Then Jesus said unto them, Yet a little while is the light with you. Walk while all of you have the light, lest darkness come upon you: for he that walks in darkness knows not where he goes.
12:36 光のある間に、光の子となるために、光を信じなさい」。イエスはこれらのことを話してから、そこを立ち去って、彼らから身をお隠しになった。
12:36 While all of you have light, believe in the light, that all of you may be the children of light. These things spoke Jesus, and departed, and did hide himself from them.
12:37 このように多くのしるしを彼らの前でなさったが、彼らはイエスを信じなかった。
12:37 But though he had done so many miracles before them, yet they believed not on him:
12:38 それは、預言者イザヤの次の言葉が成就するためである、「主よ、わたしたちの説くところを、誰が信じたでしょうか。また、主のみ腕はだれに示されたでしょうか」。
12:38 That the saying (o. logos) of Isaiah the prophet might be fulfilled, which he spoke, Lord, who has believed our report? and to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed?
12:39 こういうわけで、彼らは信じることができなかった。イザヤはまた、こうも言った、
12:39 Therefore they could not believe, because that Isaiah said again,
12:40 「神は彼らの目をくらまし、心をかたくなになさった。それは、彼らが目で見ず。心で悟らず、悔い改めていやされることがないためである」。
12:40 He has blinded their eyes, and hardened their heart; that they should not see with their eyes, nor understand with their heart, and be converted, and I should heal them.
12:41 イザヤがこう言ったのは、イエスの栄光を見たからであって、イエスのことを語ったのである。
12:41 These things said Isaiah, when he saw his glory, and spoke of him.
12:42 しかし、役人たちの中にも、イエスを信じた者が多かったが、パリサイ人をはばかって、告白はしなかった。会堂から追い出されるのを恐れていたのである。
12:42 Nevertheless among the chief rulers also many believed on him; but because of the Pharisees they did not confess him, lest they should be put out of the synagogue:
12:43 彼らは神のほまれよりも、人のほまれを好んだからである。
12:43 For they loved the praise of men more than the praise of God.
12:44 イエスは大声で言われた、「わたしを信じる者は、わたしを信じるのでせはなく、わたしをつかわされたかたを信じるのであり、
12:44 Jesus cried and said, He that believes on me, believes not on me, but on him that sent me.
12:45 また、わたしを見る者は、わたしをつかわされたかたを見るのである。
12:45 And he that sees me sees him that sent me.
12:46 わたしは光としてこの世にきた。それは、わたしを信じる者が、やみのうちにとどまらないようになるためである。
12:46 I am come a light into the world, that whosoever believes on me should not abide in darkness.
12:47 たとい、わたしの言うことを聞いてそれを守らない人があっても、わたしはその人をさばかない。わたしがきたのは、この世をさばくためではなく、この世を救うためである。
12:47 And if any man hear my words, (o. rhema) and believe not, I judge him not: for I came not to judge the world, but to save the world.
12:48 わたしを捨てて、わたしの言葉を受けいれない人には、その人をさばくものがある。わたしの語ったその言葉が、終りの日にはその人をさばくであろう。
12:48 He that rejects me, and receives not my words, (o. rhema) has one that judges him: the word (o. logos) that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day.
12:49 わたしは自分から語ったのではなく、わたしをつかわされた父ご自身が、わたしの言うべきこと、語るべきことをお命じになったのである。
12:49 For I have not spoken of myself; but the Father which sent me, he gave me a commandment, what I should say, and what I should speak.

12:50 And I know that his commandment is life everlasting: whatsoever I speak therefore, even as the Father said unto me, so I speak.
13:1 過越の祭の前に、イエスは、この世を去って父のみもとに行くべき自分の時がきたことを知り、世にいる自分の者たちを愛して、彼らを最後まで愛し通された。
13:1 Now before the feast of the passover, when Jesus knew that his hour was come that he should depart out of this world unto the Father, having loved his own which were in the world, he loved them unto the end.
13:2 夕食のとき、悪魔はすでにシモンの子イスカリオテのユダの心に、イエスを裏切ろうとする思いを入れていたが、
13:2 And supper being ended, the devil having now put into the heart of Judas Iscariot, Simon's son, to betray him;
13:3 イエスは、父がすべてのものを自分の手にお与えになったこと、また、自分は神から出てきて、神にかえろうとしていることを思い、
13:3 Jesus knowing that the Father had given all things into his hands, and that he was come from God, and went to God;
13:4 夕食の席から立ち上がって上着を脱ぎ、手ぬぐいをとって腰に巻き、
13:4 He rises from supper, and laid aside his garments; and took a towel, and girded himself.
13:5 それから水をたらいに入れて、弟子たち足を洗い、腰に巻いた手ぬぐいでふき始められた。
13:5 After that he pours water into a basin, and began to wash the disciples' feet, and to wipe them with the towel wherewith he was girded.
13:6 こうして、シモン・ペテロの番になった。すると彼はイエスに、「主よ、あなたがわたしの足をお洗いになるのですか」と言った。
13:6 Then comes he to Simon Peter: and Peter says unto him, Lord, do you wash my feet?

13:7 Jesus answered and said unto him, What I do you know not now; but you shall know hereafter.

13:8 Peter says unto him, You shall never wash my feet. Jesus answered him, If I wash you not, you have no part with me.

13:9 Simon Peter says unto him, Lord, not my feet only, but also my hands and my head.

13:10 Jesus says to him, He that is washed needs not save to wash his feet, but is clean everything: and all of you are clean, but not all.

13:11 For he knew who should betray him; therefore said he, All of you are not all clean.
13:12 こうして彼らの足を洗ってから、上着をつけ、ふたたび席にもどって、彼らに言われた、「わたしがあなたがたにしたことがわかるか。
13:12 So after he had washed their feet, and had taken his garments, and was set down again, he said unto them, Know all of you what I have done to you?

13:13 All of you call me Master and Lord: and all of you say well; for so I am.

13:14 If I then, your Lord and Master, have washed your feet; all of you also ought to wash one another's feet.

13:15 For I have given you an example, that all of you should do as I have done to you.
13:16 よくよくあなたがたに言っておく、しもべはその主人にまさるものではなく、つかわされた者はそのつかわした者にまさるものではない。
13:16 Verily, verily, I say unto you, The servant is not greater than his lord; neither he that is sent greater than he that sent him.
13:17 もしこれらのことがわかっていて、それを行うなら、あなたがたはさいわいである。
13:17 If all of you know these things, happy are all of you if all of you do them.
13:18 あなたがた全部の者について、こう言っているのではない。わたしは自分が選んだ人たちを知っている。しかし、『わたしのパンを食べている者が、わたしにむかってそのかかとをあげた』とある聖書は成就されなければならない。
13:18 I speak not of you all: I know whom I have chosen: but that the scripture may be fulfilled, He that eats bread with me has lifted up his heel against me.

13:19 Now I tell you before it come, that, when it has come to pass, all of you may believe that I am he.

13:20 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that receives whomsoever I send receives me; and he that receives me receives him that sent me.

13:21 When Jesus had thus said, he was troubled in spirit, (o. pneuma) and testified, and said, Verily, verily, I say unto you, that one of you shall betray me.
13:22 弟子たちはだれのことを言われたのか察しかねて、互いに顔を見合わせた。
13:22 Then the disciples looked one on another, doubting of whom he spoke.
13:23 弟子たちのひとりで、イエスを愛しておられた者が、み胸に近く席についていた。
13:23 Now there was leaning on Jesus' bosom one of his disciples, whom Jesus loved.
13:24 そこで、シモン・ペテロは彼に合図して言った、「だれのことをおっしゃったのか、知らせてくれ」。
13:24 Simon Peter therefore beckoned to him, that he should ask who it should be of whom he spoke.
13:25 その弟子はそのままイエスの胸によりかかって、「主よ、だれのことですか」と尋ねると、
13:25 He then lying on Jesus' breast says unto him, Lord, who is it?
13:26 イエスは答えられた、「わたしが一きれの食物をひたして与える者が、それである」。そして、一きれの食物をひたしてとり上げ、シモンの子イスカリオテのユダにお与えになった。
13:26 Jesus answered, He it is, to whom I shall give a morsel, when I have dipped it. And when he had dipped the morsel, he gave it to Judas Iscariot, the son of Simon.
13:27 この一きれの食物を受けるやいなや、サタンがユダにはいった。そこでイエスは彼に言われた、「しようとしていることを、今すぐするがよい」。
13:27 And after the morsel Satan entered into him. Then said Jesus unto him, That you do, do quickly.
13:28 席を共にしていた者のうち、なぜユダにこう言われたのか、わかっていた者はひとりもなかった。
13:28 Now no man at the table knew for what intent he spoke this unto him.
13:29 ある人々は、ユダが金入れをあずかっていたので、イエスが彼に、「祭のために必要なものを買え」と言われたか、あるいは、貧しい者に何か施させようとされたのだと思っていた。
13:29 For some of them thought, because Judas had the bag, that Jesus had said unto him, Buy those things that we have need of against the feast; or, that he should give something to the poor.

13:30 He then having received the morsel went immediately out: and it was night.

13:31 Therefore, when he was gone out, Jesus said, Now is the Son of man glorified, and God is glorified in him.

13:32 If God be glorified in him, God shall also glorify him in himself, and shall immediately glorify him.
13:33 子たちよ、わたしはまだしばらく、あなたがたと一緒にいる。あなたがたはわたしを捜すだろうが、すでにユダヤ人たちに言ったとおり、今あなたがたにも言う、『あなたがたはわたしの行く所に来ることはできない』。
13:33 Little children, yet a little while I am with you. All of you shall seek me: and as I said unto the Jews, Where I go, all of you cannot come; so now I say to you.
13:34 わたしは、新しいいましめをあなたがたに与える、互いに愛し合いなさい。わたしがあなたがたを愛したように、あなたがたも互いに愛し合いなさい。
13:34 A new commandment I give unto you, That all of you love one another; as I have loved you, that all of you also love one another.
13:35 互いに愛し合うならば、それによって、あなたがたがわたしの弟子であることを、すべての者が認めるであろう」。
13:35 By this shall all men know that all of you are my disciples, if all of you have love (o. agape) one to another.

13:36 Simon Peter said unto him, Lord, where go you? Jesus answered him, Where I go, you can not follow me now; but you shall follow me afterwards.

13:37 Peter said unto him, Lord, why cannot I follow you now? I will lay down my life for your sake.

13:38 Jesus answered him, Will you lay down your life for my sake? Verily, verily, I say unto you, The cock shall not crow, till you have denied me three times.
14:1 「あなたがたは、心を騒がせないがよい。神を信じ、またわたしを信じなさい。
14:1 Let not your heart be troubled: all of you believe in God, believe also in me.
14:2 わたしの父の家には、すまいがたくさんある。もしなかったならば、わたしがそう言っておいたであろう。あなたがたのために、場所の用意をしに行くのだから。
14:2 In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.
14:3 そして行って、場所の用意ができたならば、またきて、あなたがたをわたしのところに迎えよう。わたしのおる所にあなたがたもおらせるためである。
14:3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there all of you may be also.
14:4 わたしがどこへ行くのか、その道はあなたがたにわかっている」。
14:4 And where I go all of you know, and the way all of you know.
14:5 トマスはイエスに言った、「主よ、どこへおいでになるのか、わたしたちにはわかりません。どうしてその場所がわかるでしょう」。
14:5 Thomas says unto him, Lord, we know not where you go; and how can we know the way?
14:6 イエスは彼らに言われた、「わたしは道であり、真理であり、命である。だれでもわたしによらないでは、父のみもとに行くことはできない。
14:6 Jesus says unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man comes unto the Father, but by me.
14:7 もしあなたがたがわたしを知っていたならば、わたしの父をも知ったであろう。しかし、今は父を知っており、またすでに父を見たのである」。
14:7 If all of you had known me, all of you should have known my Father also: and from henceforth all of you know him, and have seen him.
14:8 ピリポはイエスに言った、「主よ、わたしたちに父を示して下さい。そうして下されば、わたしたちは満足します」。
14:8 Philip says unto him, Lord, show us the Father, and it satisfies us.
14:9 イエスは彼に言われた、「ピリポよ、こんなに長くあなたがたと一緒にいるのに、わたしがわかっていないのか。わたしを見た者は、父を見たのである。どうして、わたしたちに父を示してほしいと、言うのか。
14:9 Jesus says unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and yet have you not known me, Philip? he that has seen me has seen the Father; and how says you then, Show us the Father?
14:10 わたしが父におり、父がわたしのうちにおられて、みわざをなさっているのである。
14:10 Believe you not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? the (o. rhema) words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwells in me, he does the works.
14:11 わたしが父におり、父がわたしにおられることを信じなさい。もしそれが信じられないならば、わざそのものによって信じなさい。
14:11 Believe me that I am in the Father, and the Father in me: or else believe me for the very works' sake.
14:12 よくよくあなたがたに言っておく。わたしを信じる者は、またわたしのしているわざをするであろう。そればかりか、もっと大きいわざをするであろう。わたしが父のみもとに行くからである。
14:12 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believes on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.
14:13 わたしの名によって願うことは、なんでもかなえてあげよう。父が子によって栄光をお受けになるためである。
14:13 And whatsoever all of you shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.
14:14 何事でもわたしの名によって願うならば、わたしはそれをかなえてあげよう。
14:14 If all of you shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it.
14:15 もしあなたがたがわたしを愛するならば、わたしのいましめを守るべきである。
14:15 If all of you love me, keep my commandments.
14:16 わたしは父にお願いしよう。そうすれば、父は別に助け主を送って、いつまでもあなたがたと共におらせて下さるであろう。
14:16 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;
14:17 それは真理の御霊である。この世はそれを見ようともせず、知ろうともしないで、それを受けることができない。あなたがたはそれを知っている。なぜなら、それはあなたがたと共におり、またあなたがたのうちにいるからである。
14:17 Even the Spirit (o. pneuma) of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it sees him not, neither knows him: but all of you know him; for he dwells with you, and shall be in you.

14:18 I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.

14:19 Yet a little while, and the world sees me no more; but all of you see me: because I live, all of you shall live also.

14:20 At that day all of you shall know that I am in my Father, and all of you in me, and I in you.

14:21 He that has my commandments, and keeps them, he it is that loves me: and he that loves me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him.

14:22 Judas says unto him, not Iscariot, Lord, how is it that you will manifest yourself unto us, and not unto the world?

14:23 Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: (o. logos) and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him.

14:24 He that loves me not keeps not my sayings: (o. logos) and the word (o. logos) which all of you hear is not mine, but the Father's which sent me.

14:25 These things have I spoken unto you, being yet present with you.

14:26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Spirit, (o. pneuma) whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.

14:27 Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world gives, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.
14:28 『わたしは去って行くが、またあなたがたのところに帰って来る』と、わたしが言ったのを、あなたがたは聞いている。もしわたしを愛しているなら、わたしが父のもとに行くのを喜んでくれるであろう。父がわたしより大きいかたであるからである。
14:28 All of you have heard how I said unto you, I go away, and come again unto you. If all of you loved me, all of you would rejoice, because I said, I go unto the Father: for my Father is greater than I.
14:29 今わたしは、そのことが起こらない先にあなたがたに語った。それは、事が起った時あなたがたが信じるためである。
14:29 And now I have told you before it come to pass, that, when it has come to pass, all of you might believe.
14:30 わたしはもはや、あなたがたに、多くを語るまい。この世の君が来るからである。だが、彼はわたしに対して、なんの力もない。
14:30 Hereafter I will not talk much with you: for the prince of this world comes, and has nothing in me.

14:31 But that the world may know that I love the Father; and as the Father gave me commandment, even so I do. Arise, let us go behind.

15:1 I am the true vine, and my Father is the farmer.
15:2 わたしにつながったいる枝で実を結ばないものは、父がすべこれをとりのぞき、実を結ぶものは、もっと豊かに実らせるために、手入れしてこれをきれいになさるのである。
15:2 Every branch in me that bears not fruit he takes away: and every branch that bears fruit, he purges it, that it may bring forth more fruit.
15:3 あなたがたは、わたしが語った言によって既にきよくされている。
15:3 Now all of you are clean through the word (o. logos) which I have spoken unto you.
15:4 わたしにつながっていなさい。そうすれば、わたしはあなたがたとつながっていよう。枝がぶどうの木につながっていなければ、自分だけでは実を結ぶことができない。
15:4 Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can all of you, except all of you abide in me.
15:5 わたしはぶどうの木、あなたがたはその枝である。もし人がわたしにつながっており、またわたしがその人とつながっておれば、その人は実を豊から結ぶようになる。わたしから離れては、あなたがたは何一つできないからである。
15:5 I am the vine, all of you are the branches: He that abides in me, and I in him, the same brings forth much fruit: for without me all of you can do nothing.
15:6 人がわたしにつながっていないならば、枝のように外に投げすてられて枯れる。人々はそれをかき集め、火に投げいれて、焼いてしまうのである。
15:6 If a man abide not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered; and men gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burned.
15:7 あなたがたはわたしんつながっており、わたしの言葉があなたがたにとどまっているならば、なんでも望むものを求めるがよい。そうすれば、与えられるであろう。
15:7 If all of you abide in me, and my words (o. rhema) abide in you, all of you shall ask what all of you will, and it shall be done unto you.
15:8 あなたがたが実を豊かに結び、そしてわたしの弟子となるならば、それによって、わたしの父は栄光をお受けになるであろう。
15:8 Herein is my Father glorified, that all of you bear much fruit; so shall all of you be my disciples.
15:9 父がわたしを愛されたように、わたしもあなたがたを愛したのである。わたしの愛のうちにいなさい。
15:9 As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you: continue all of you in my love. (o. agape)
15:10 もしわたしのいましめを守るならば、あなたがたはわたしの愛のうちにおるのである。それはわたしがわたしの父のいましめを守ったので、その愛のうちにおるのと同じである。
15:10 If all of you keep my commandments, all of you shall abide in my love; (o. agape) even as I have kept my Father's commandments, and abide in his love. (o. agape)

15:11 These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full.

15:12 This is my commandment, That all of you love one another, as I have loved you.

15:13 Greater love (o. agape) has no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.

15:14 All of you are my friends, if all of you do whatsoever I command you.

15:15 Henceforth I call you not servants; for the servant knows not what his lord does: but I have called you friends; for all things that I have heard of my Father I have made known unto you.

15:16 All of you have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that all of you should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever all of you shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you.
15:17 これらのことを命じるのは、あなたがたが互いに愛し合うためである。
15:17 These things I command you, that all of you love one another.
15:18 もし世があなたがたを憎むならば、あなたがたよりも先にわたしを憎んだことを、知っておくがよい。
15:18 If the world hate you, all of you know that it hated me before it hated you.
15:19 もしあなたがたがこの世から出たものであったなら、この世は、あなたがたを自分のものとして愛したであろう。しかし、あなたがたはこの世のものではない。かえって、わたしがあなたがたをこの世から撰び出したのである。だから、この世はあなたがたを憎むのである。
15:19 If all of you were of the world, the world would love his own: but because all of you are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hates you.
15:20 わたしがあなたがたに『僕はその主人にまさるものではない』と言ったことを、おぼえていなさい。もし人々がわたしを迫害したなら、あなたがたをも迫害するであろう。また、もし彼らがわたしの言葉を守っていたなら、あなたがたの言葉も守るであろう。
15:20 Remember the word (o. logos) that I said unto you, The servant is not greater than his lord. If they have persecuted me, they will also persecute you; if they have kept my saying, (o. logos) they will keep yours also.
15:21 彼らがわたしの名ゆえに、あなたがたに対してすべてそれらのことをするであろう。それは、わたしをつかわされたかたを彼らが知らないからである。
15:21 But all these things will they do unto you for my name's sake, because they know not him that sent me.

15:22 If I had not come and spoken unto them, they had not had sin: but now they have no cloak for their sin.

15:23 He that hates me hates my Father also.

15:24 If I had not done among them the works which no other man did, they had not had sin: but now have they both seen and hated both me and my Father.
15:25 それは、『彼らは理由もなしにわたしを憎んだ』と書いてある彼らの律法の言葉が成就するためである。
15:25 But this comes to pass, that the word (o. logos) might be fulfilled that is written in their law, They hated me without a cause.

15:26 But when the Comforter has come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit (o. pneuma) of truth, which proceeds from the Father, he shall testify of me:

15:27 And all of you also shall bear witness, because all of you have been with me from the beginning.
16:1 わたしがこれらのことを語ったのは、あなたがたがつまずくことのないためである。
16:1 These things have I spoken unto you, that all of you should not be offended.
16:2 人々はあなたがたを会堂から追い出すであろう。更にあなたがたを殺す者がみな、それによって自分たちは神に仕えているのだと思う時が来るであろう。
16:2 They shall put you out of the synagogues: yea, the time comes, that whosoever kills you will think that he does God service.
16:3 彼らがそのようなことをするのは、父をもわたしをも知らないからである。
16:3 And these things will they do unto you, because they have not known the Father, nor me.
16:4 わたしがあなたがたにこれらのことを言ったのは、彼らの時がきた場合、わたしが彼らについて言ったことを、思い起こさせるためである。これらのことを初めから言わなかったのは、わたしがあなたがたと一緒にいたからである。
16:4 But these things have I told you, that when the time shall come, all of you may remember that I told you of them. And these things I said not unto you at the beginning, because I was with you.
16:5 けれど今わたしは、わたしをつかわされたかたのところに行こうとしている。しかし、あなたがたのうち、だれも『どこへ行くのか』と尋ねる者はない。
16:5 But now I go my way to him that sent me; and none of you asks me, Where go you?
16:6 かえって、わたしがこれらのことを言ったために、あなたがたの心は憂いで満たされている。
16:6 But because I have said these things unto you, sorrow has filled your heart.
16:7 しかし、わたしはほんとうのことをあなたがたに言うが、わたしが去って行くことは、あなたがたの益になるのだ。わたしが去って行かなければ、あなたがたのところに助け主はこないであろう。もし行けば、それをあなたがたにつかわそう。
16:7 Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you.
16:8 それがきたら、罪と義とさばきとについて、世の人の目を開くであろう。
16:8 And when he has come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment:
16:9 罪についてと言ったのは、彼らがわたしを信じないからである。
16:9 Of sin, because they believe not on me;
16:10 義についてと言ったのは、わたしが父のみもとに行き、あなたがたは、もはやわたしを見なくなるからである。
16:10 Of righteousness, because I go to my Father, and all of you see me no more;
16:11 さばきについてと言ったのは、この世の君がさばかれるからである。
16:11 Of judgment, because the prince of this world is judged.
16:12 わたしには、あなたがたに言うべきことがまだ多くあるが、あなたがたは今はそれに堪えられない。
16:12 I have yet many things to say unto you, but all of you cannot bear them now.
16:13 けれども真理の御霊が来る時には、あなたがたをあらゆる真理に導いてくれるであろう。それは自分から語るのではなく、その聞くところを語り、きたるべき事をあなたがに知らせるであろう。
16:13 Nevertheless when he, the Spirit (o. pneuma) of truth, has come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will show you things to come.
16:14 御霊はわたしに栄光を得させるであろう。
16:14 He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall show it unto you.
16:15 父がお持ちになっているものはみな、わたしのものである。御霊はわたしのものを受けて、それをあなたがたに知らせるのだと、わたしが言ったのは、そのためである。
16:15 All things that the Father has are mine: therefore said I, that he shall take of mine, and shall show it unto you.
16:16 しばらくすれば、あなたがたはもうわたしを見なくなる。しかし、またしばらくすれば、わたしに会えるであろう」。
16:16 A little while, and all of you shall not see me: and again, a little while, and all of you shall see me, because I go to the Father.
16:17 そこで弟子たちのうちのある者は互いに言い合った、「『しばらくすれば、わたしを見なくなる。またしばらくすれば、わたしに会えるであろう』と言われ、『わたしの父のところに行く』と言われたのは、いったい、どういうことなのであろう」。
16:17 Then said some of his disciples among themselves, What is this that he says unto us, A little while, and all of you shall not see me: and again, a little while, and all of you shall see me: and, Because I go to the Father?
16:18 彼らはまた言った、「『しばらくすれば』と言われるのは、どういうことか、わたしたちいは、その言葉の意味がわからない」。
16:18 They said therefore, What is this that he says, A little while? we cannot tell what he says.
16:19 イエスは、彼らが尋ねたがっていることに気がついて、彼らに言われた、「しばらくすればわたしを見なくなる、またしばらくすればわたしに会えるであろうと、わたしが言ったことで、互いに論じ合っているのか。
16:19 Now Jesus knew that they were desirous to ask him, and said unto them, Do all of you enquire among yourselves of that I said, A little while, and all of you shall not see me: and again, a little while, and all of you shall see me?
16:20 よくよくあなたがたに言っておく。あなたがたは泣き悲しむが、この世は喜ぶであろう。あなたがたは憂えていろが、その憂いは喜びに変わるであろう。
16:20 Verily, verily, I say unto you, That all of you shall weep and lament, but the world shall rejoice: and all of you shall be sorrowful, but your sorrow shall be turned into joy.
16:21 女が子を産む場合には、その時がきたというので、不安を感じる。しかし、子を産んでしまえば、もはやその苦しみをおぼえてはいない。ひとりの人がこの世に生れた、という喜びがあるためである。
16:21 A woman when she is in travail has sorrow, because her hour has come: but as soon as she is delivered of the child, she remembers no more the anguish, for joy that a man is born into the world.
16:22 このように、あなたがたにも今は不安がある。しかし、わたしは再びあなたがたと会うであろう。そして、あなたがたの心は喜びに満たされるであろう。その喜びをあなたがたから取り去る者はいない。
16:22 And all of you now therefore have sorrow: but I will see you again, and your heart shall rejoice, and your joy no man takes from you.
16:23 その日には、あなたがたがわたしに問うことは、何もないであろう。よくよくあなたがたに言っておく。あなたがたが父に求めるものはなんでも、わたしの名によって下さるであろう。
16:23 And in that day all of you shall ask me nothing. Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whatsoever all of you shall ask the Father in my name, he will give it you.
16:24 今までは、あなたがたはわたしの名によって求めたことはなかった。求めなさい。そうすれば、与えられるであろう。そして、あなたがたの喜びが満ちあふれるであろう。
16:24 Until now have all of you asked nothing in my name: ask, and all of you shall receive, that your joy may be full.
16:25 わたしはこれらのことを比喩で話したが、もはや比喩では話さないで、あからさまに、父のことをあなたがたに話してきかせる時が来るであろう。
16:25 These things have I spoken unto you in proverbs: but the time comes, when I shall no more speak unto you in proverbs, but I shall show you plainly of the Father.
16:26 その日には、あなたがたは、わたしの名によって求めるであろう。わたしは、あなたがたのために父に願ってあげようとは言うまい。
16:26 At that day all of you shall ask in my name: and I say not unto you, that I will pray the Father for you:
16:27 父ご自身があなたがたを愛しておいでになるからである。それは、あなたがたがわたしを愛したため、また、わたしが神のみもとからきたことを信じたためである。
16:27 For the Father himself loves you, because all of you have loved me, and have believed that I came out from God.
16:28 わたしは父から出てこの世にきたが、またこの世を去って、父のみもとに行くのである」。
16:28 I came forth from the Father, and am come into the world: again, I leave the world, and go to the Father.
16:29 弟子たちは言った、「今はあからさまにお話になって、少しも比喩ではお話になりません。
16:29 His disciples said unto him, Lo, now speak you plainly, and speak no proverb.
16:30 あなたはすべてのことをご存じであり、だれもあなたにお尋ねする必要のないことが、今わかりました。このことによって、わたしたちはあなたが神からこられたかたであると信じます」。
16:30 Now are we sure that you know all things, and need not that any man should ask you: by this we believe that you came forth from God.
16:31 イエスは答えられた、「あなたがたは今信じているのか。
16:31 Jesus answered them, Do all of you now believe?
16:32 見よ、あなたがたは散らされて、それぞれ自分の家に帰り、わたしをひとりだけ残す時が来るであろう。いや、すでにきている。しかし、わたしはひとりでいるのではない。父がわたしと一緒におられるのである。
16:32 Behold, the hour comes, yea, is now come, that all of you shall be scattered, every man to his own, and shall leave me alone: and yet I am not alone, because the Father is with me.
16:33 これらのことをあなたがたに話したのは、わたしにあって平安を得るためである。あなたがたは、この世ではなやみがある。しかし、勇気を出しなさい。わたしはすでに世に勝っている」。
16:33 These things I have spoken unto you, that in me all of you might have peace. In the world all of you shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.
17:1 れらのことを語り終えると、イエスは天を見あげて言われた、「父よ、時がきました。あなたの子があなたの栄光をあらわすように、子の栄光をあらわして下さい。
17:1 These words spoke Jesus, and lifted up his eyes to heaven, and said, Father, the hour has come; glorify your Son, that your Son also may glorify you:
17:2 あなたは、子に賜ったすべての者に、永遠の命を授けさせるため、万民を支配する権威を子にお与えになったのですから。
17:2 As you have given him power over all flesh, that he should give eternal life to as many as you have given him.
17:3 永遠の命とは、唯一の、まことの神でいますあなたと、また、あなたにつかわされたイエス・キリストとを知ることであります。
17:3 And this is life eternal, that they might know you the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent.
17:4 わたしは、わたしにさせるためにお授けになったわざをなし遂げて、地上であなたの栄光をあらわしました。
17:4 I have glorified you on the earth: I have finished the work which you gave me to do.
17:5 父よ、世が造られる前に、わたしがみそばで持っていた栄光で、今み前に、わたしを輝かせて下さい。
17:5 And now, O Father, glorify you me with yours own self with the glory which I had with you before the world was.
17:6 わたしは、あなたが世から選んでわたしに賜った人人に、み名をあらわしました。彼らはあなたのものでありましたが、わたしに下さいました。そして、彼らはあなたの言葉を守りました。
17:6 I have manifested your name unto the men which you gave me out of the world: yours they were, and you gave them me; and they have kept your word. (o. logos)
17:7 いま彼らは、わたしに賜ったものはすべて、あなたから出たものであることを知りました。
17:7 Now they have known that all things whatsoever you have given me are of you.
17:8 なぜなら、わたしはあなたからいただいた言葉を彼らに与え、そして彼らはそれを受け、わたしがあなたから出たものであることをほんとうに知り、また、あなたがわたしをつかわされたことわ信じるに至ったからです。
17:8 For I have given unto them the words (o. rhema) which you gave me; and they have received them, and have known surely that I came out from you, and they have believed that you did send me.
17:9 わたしは彼らのためにお願いします。わたしがお願いするのは、この世のためではなく、あなたがわたしに賜った者たちのためです。彼らはあなたのものなのです。
17:9 I pray for them: I pray not for the world, but for them which you have given me; for they are yours.
17:10 わたしのものは皆あなたのもの、あなたのものはわたしのものです。そして、わたしは彼らによって栄光を受けました。
17:10 And all mine are yours, and yours are mine; and I am glorified in them.
17:11 わたしはもうこの世にはいなくなりますが、彼らはこの世に残っており、わたしはみもとに参ります。聖なる父よ、わたしに賜った御名によって彼らを守って下さい。それはわたしたちが一つであるように、彼らも一つになるためであります。
17:11 And now I am no more in the world, but these are in the world, and I come to you. Holy Father, keep through yours own name those whom you have given me, that they may be one, as we are.
17:12 わたしが彼らと一緒にいた間は、あなたからいただいた御名によって彼らを守り、また保護してまいりました。彼らのうち、だれも滅びず、ただ滅びの子だけは滅びました。それは聖書が成就するためでした。
17:12 While I was with them in the world, I kept them in your name: those that you gave me I have kept, and none of them is lost, but the son of perdition; that the scripture might be fulfilled.
17:13 今わたしはみもとに参ります。そして世にいる間にこれらのことを語るのは、わたしの喜びが彼らのうちに満ちあふれるためであります。
17:13 And now come I to you; and these things I speak in the world, that they might have my joy fulfilled in themselves.
17:14 わたしは彼らに御言を与えましたが、世は彼らを憎みました。わたしが世のものでないいように、彼らも世のものでないからです。
17:14 I have given them your word; (o. logos) and the world has hated them, because they are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.
17:15 わたしがお願いするのは、彼らを世から取り去ることではなく、彼らを悪しき者から守って下さることであります。
17:15 I pray not that you should take them out of the world, but that you should keep them from the evil.
17:16 わたしが世のものでないように、彼らももた世のものではありません。
17:16 They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.
17:17 真理によって彼らを聖別して下さい。あなたの御言は真理であります。
17:17 Sanctify them through your truth: your word (o. logos) is truth.
17:18 あなたがわたしを世につかわされたように、わたしも彼らを世につかわしました。
17:18 As you have sent me into the world, even so have I also sent them into the world.
17:19 また彼らが真理によって聖別されるように、彼らのためわたし自身を聖別いたします。
17:19 And for their sakes I sanctify myself, that they also might be sanctified through the truth.
17:20 わたしは彼らのためばかりではなく、彼らの言葉を聞いてわたしを信じている人々のためにも、お願いいたします。
17:20 Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word; (o. logos)
17:21 父よ、それは、あなたがわたしのうちにおられ、わたしがあなたのうちにいるように、みんなの者が一つとなるためであります。すなわち、彼らをもわたしたちのうちにおらせるためであり、それによって、あなたがわたしをおつかわしになったことを、世が信じるようになるためであります。
17:21 That they all may be one; as you, Father, are in me, and I in you, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that you have sent me.
17:22 わたしは、あなたからいだいた栄光を彼らにも与えました。それは、わたしたちが一つであるように、彼らも一つになるためであります。
17:22 And the glory which you gave me I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one:
17:23 わたしが彼らにおり、あなたがわたしにいますのは、彼らが完全に一つとなるためであり、また、あなたがわたしをつかわし、わたしを愛されたように、彼らお愛しになったことを、世が知るためであります。
17:23 I in them, and you in me, that they may be made perfect in one; and that the world may know that you have sent me, and have loved them, as you have loved me.
17:24 父よ、あなたがわたしに賜った人々が、わたしのいる所に一緒にいるようにして下さい。
17:24 Father, I will that they also, whom you have given me, be with me where I am; that they may behold my glory, which you have given me: for you loved me before the foundation of the world.
17:25 正しい父よ、この世はあなたを知っていません。しかし、わたしはあなたを知り、また彼らも、あなたがわたしをおつかわしになったことを知っています。
17:25 O righteous Father, the world has not known you: but I have known you, and these have known that you have sent me.
17:26 そしてわたしは彼らに御名を知らせました。またこれからも知らせましょう。それは、あなたがわたしを愛して下さったその愛が彼らのうちにあり、またわたしも彼らのうちにおるためであります」。
17:26 And I have declared unto them your name, and will declare it: that the love (o. agape) wherewith you have loved me may be in them, and I in them.
18:1 イエスはこれらのことを語り終えて、弟子たちと一緒にケデロンの谷の向こうへ行かれた。そこには園があって、イエスは弟子たちと一緒にその園の中にはいられた。
18:1 When Jesus had spoken these words, he went forth with his disciples over the brook Cedron, where was a garden, into the which he entered, and his disciples.
18:2 イエスを裏切ったユダは、その所をよく知っていた。イエスと弟子たちとがたびたびそこに集まったことがあるからである。
18:2 And Judas also, which betrayed him, knew the place: for Jesus frequently resorted thither with his disciples.
18:3 さてユダは、一隊の兵卒と祭司長やパリサイ人たちの送った下役どもを引き連れ、たいまつやあかりや武器を持って、そこへやってきた。
18:3 Judas then, having received a band of men and officers from the chief priests and Pharisees, comes thither with lanterns and torches and weapons.
18:4 しかしイエスは、自分の身に起ころうとすることをことごとく承知しておられ、進み出て彼らに言われた、「だれを捜しているのか」。
18:4 Jesus therefore, knowing all things that should come upon him, went forth, and said unto them, Whom seek all of you?
18:5 彼らは「ナザレのイエスを」と答えた。
18:5 They answered him, Jesus of Nazareth. Jesus says unto them, I am he. And Judas also, which betrayed him, stood with them.
18:6 イエスは彼らに言われた、「わたしが、それである」。イエスを裏切ったユダも、彼らと一緒に立っていた。イエスが彼らに「わたしが、それである」と言われたとき、彼らはうしろに引きさがってちに倒れた。
18:6 As soon then as he had said unto them, I am he, they went backward, and fell to the ground.
18:7 そこでまた彼らに、「だれを捜しているのか」とお尋ねになると、彼らは「ナザレのイエスを」と言った。
18:7 Then asked he them again, Whom seek all of you? And they said, Jesus of Nazareth.
18:8 イエスは答えられた、「わたしがそれであると、言ったではないか。わたしを捜しているのなら、この人たちを去らせてもらいたい」。
18:8 Jesus answered, I have told you that I am he: if therefore all of you seek me, let these go their way:
18:9 それは、「あなたが与えて下さった人たちの中のひとりも、わたしは失わなかった」とイエスの言われた言葉が、成就するためである。
18:9 That the saying (o. logos) might be fulfilled, which he spoke, Of them which you gave me have I lost none.
18:10 シモン・ペテロは剣を持っていたが、それを抜いて、大祭司の僕に切りかかり、その右の耳を切り落した。その僕の名はマルコスであった。
18:10 Then Simon Peter having a sword drew it, and stroke the high priest's servant, and cut off his right ear. The servant's name was Malchus.
18:11 すると、イエスはペテロに言われた、「剣をさやに納めなさい。父がわたしに下さった杯は、飲むべきではないか」。
18:11 Then said Jesus unto Peter, Put up your sword into the sheath: the cup which my Father has given me, shall I not drink it?
18:12 それから一隊の兵卒やその千卒長やヤダヤ人の下役どもが、イエスを捕え、縛りあげて、
18:12 Then the band and the captain and officers of the Jews took Jesus, and bound him,
18:13 まずアンナスのところに引き連れて行った。彼はその年の大祭司カヤバのしゅうとであった。
18:13 And led him away to Annas first; for he was father in law to Caiaphas, which was the high priest that same year.
18:14 カヤバは前に、ひとりの人が民のために死ぬのはよいことだと、ユダヤ人に助言した者であった。
18:14 Now Caiaphas was he, which gave counsel to the Jews, that it was expedient that one man should die for the people.
18:15 シモン・ペテロともうひとりの弟子とが、イエスについて行った。この弟子は大祭司の知り合いであったので、イエスと一緒に大祭司の中庭にはいった。
18:15 And Simon Peter followed Jesus, and so did another disciple: that disciple was known unto the high priest, and went in with Jesus into the palace of the high priest.
18:16 しかし、ペテロは戸口で立っていた。すると大祭司の知り合いであるその弟子が、外に出て行って門番の女に話、ペテロを内に入れてやった。
18:16 But Peter stood at the door without. Then went out that other disciple, which was known unto the high priest, and spoke unto her that kept the door, and brought in Peter.
18:17 すると、この門番の女がペテロに言った、「あなたも、あの人の弟子のひとりではありませんか」。ペテロは、「いや、そうではない」と答えた。
18:17 Then says the damsel that kept the door unto Peter, Are not you also one of this man's disciples? He says, I am not.
18:18 僕や下役どもは、寒い時であったので、炭火をおこし、そこに立ってあたっていた。ペテロもまた彼らに交じり、立ってあたっていた。
18:18 And the servants and officers stood there, who had made a fire of coals; for it was cold: and they warmed themselves: and Peter stood with them, and warmed himself.
18:19 大祭司はイエスに、弟子たちのことやイエスの教えのことを尋ねた。
18:19 The high priest then asked Jesus of his disciples, and of his doctrine.
18:20 イエスは答えられた、「わたしはこのよに対して公然と語ってきた。すべてのユダヤ人が集まる会堂や宮で、いつも教えていた。何事も隠れて語ったことはない。
18:20 Jesus answered him, I spoke openly to the world; I ever taught in the synagogue, and in the temple, where the Jews always resort; and in secret have I said nothing.
18:21 なぜ、わたしに尋ねるのか。わたしが彼らに語ったことは、それを聞いた人々に尋ねるがよい。わたしの言ったことは、彼らが知っているのだから」。
18:21 Why ask you me? ask them which heard me, what I have said unto them: behold, they know what I said.
18:22 イエスがこう言われると、そこに立っていた下役のひとりが、「大祭司にむかって、そのような答をするのか」と言って、平手でイエスを打った。
18:22 And when he had thus spoken, one of the officers which stood by struck Jesus with the palm of his hand, saying, Answer you the high priest so?
18:23 イエスは答えられた、「もしわたしが何か悪いことを言ったのなら、その悪い理由を言いなさい。しかし、正しいことを言ったのなら、なぜわたしを打つのか」。
18:23 Jesus answered him, If I have spoken evil, bear witness of the evil: but if well, why smite you me?
18:24 それからアンナスは、イエスを縛ったまま大祭司のカヤバのところへ送った。
18:24 Now Annas had sent him bound unto Caiaphas the high priest.
18:25 シモン・ペテロは、立って火にあたっていた。すると人々が彼に言った、「あなたも、あの人の弟子のひとりではないか」、彼はそれをうち消して、「いや、そうではない」と言った。
18:25 And Simon Peter stood and warmed himself. They said therefore unto him, Are not you also one of his disciples? He denied it, and said, I am not.
18:26 大祭司の僕のひとりで、ペテロに耳を切りおとされた人の親族の者が言った、「あなたが園であの人と一緒にいるのを、わたしは見たではないか」。
18:26 One of the servants of the high priest, being his kinsman whose ear Peter cut off, says, Did not I see you in the garden with him?
18:27 ペテロはまたそれを打ち消した。するとすぐに、鶏が鳴いた。
18:27 Peter then denied again: and immediately the cock crew.
18:28 それから人々は、イエスをカヤパのところから官邸につれて行った。時は夜明けであった。彼らは、けがれを受けないで過越の食事ができるように、官邸にはいらなかった。
18:28 Then led they Jesus from Caiaphas unto the hall of judgment: and it was early; and they themselves went not into the judgment hall, lest they should be defiled; but that they might eat the passover.
18:29 そこで、ピラトは彼らのところに出てきて言った、「あなたがたは、この人に対してどんな訴えを起こすのか」。
18:29 Pilate then went out unto them, and said, What accusation bring all of you against this man?
18:30 彼らはピラトに答えて言った、「もしこの人が悪事をはたらかなかったなら、あなたに引き渡すようなことはしなかったでしょう」。
18:30 They answered and said unto him, If he were not a villain, we would not have delivered him up unto you.
18:31 そこでピラトは彼らに言った、「あなたがたは彼を引き取って、自分たちの律法でさばくがよい」。ユダヤ人らは彼に言った、「わたしたちには、人を死刑にする権限がありません」。
18:31 Then said Pilate unto them, Take all of you him, and judge him according to your law. The Jews therefore said unto him, It is not lawful for us to put any man to death:
18:32 これは、ご自身がどんな死にかたをするかを示すために言われたイエスの言葉が成就するためである。
18:32 That the saying (o. logos) of Jesus might be fulfilled, which he spoke, signifying what death he should die.
18:33 さて、ピラトはまた官邸にはいり、イエスを呼び出して言った、「あなたは、ユダヤ人の王であるか」。
18:33 Then Pilate entered into the judgment hall again, and called Jesus, and said unto him, Are you the King of the Jews?
18:34 イエスは答えられた、「あなたがそう言うのは、自分の考えからか。それともほかの人々が、わたしのことをあなたにそう言ったのか」。
18:34 Jesus answered him, Says you this thing of yourself, or did others tell it you of me?
18:35 ピラトは答えた、「わたしはユダヤ人なのか。あなたの同族や祭司長たちが、あなたをわたしに引き渡しのだ。あなたは、いったい、何をしたのか」。
18:35 Pilate answered, Am I a Jew? Yours own nation and the chief priests have delivered you unto me: what have you done?
18:36 イエスは答えられた、「わたしの国はこの世のものではない。もしわたしの国がこの世のものであれば、わたしに従っている者たちは、わたしをユダヤ人に渡さないように戦ったであろう。しかし事実は、わたしの国はこの世のものではない」。
18:36 Jesus answered, My kingdom is not of this world: if my kingdom were of this world, then would my servants fight, that I should not be delivered to the Jews: but now is my kingdom not from behind.
18:37 そこでピラトはイエスに言った、「それでは、あなたは王なのだな」。イエスは答えられた、「あなたの言うとおり、わたしは王である。わたしは真理についてあかしをするために生まれ、また、そのためにこの世にきたのである。だれでも真理につく者は、わたしの声に耳を傾ける」。
18:37 Pilate therefore said unto him, Are you a king then? Jesus answered, You says that I am a king. To this end was I born, and for this cause came I into the world, that I should bear witness unto the truth. Every one that is of the truth hears my voice.
18:38 ピラトはイエスに言った、「真理とは何か」。こう言って、彼はまたユダヤ人の所に出て行き、彼らに言った、「わたしは、この人になんの罪も見いだせない。
18:38 Pilate says unto him, What is truth? And when he had said this, he went out again unto the Jews, and says unto them, I find in him no fault at all.
18:39 過越の時には、わたしがあなたがたのために、ひとりの人を許してやるのが、あなたがたのしきたりになっている。ついては、あなたがたは、このユダヤ人の王を許してもらいたいのか」。
18:39 But all of you have a custom, that I should release unto you one at the passover: will all of you therefore that I release unto you the King of the Jews?
18:40 すると彼らは、また叫んで「その人ではなく、バラバを」と言った。このバラバは強盗であった。
18:40 Then cried they all again, saying, Not this man, but Barabbas. Now Barabbas was a robber.
19:1 そこでピラトは、イエスを捕らえ、むち打たせた。
19:1 Then Pilate therefore took Jesus, and scourged him.
19:2 兵卒たちは、いばらで冠をあんで、イエスの頭にかぶらせ、紫の上着を着せ、
19:2 And the soldiers intertwined a crown of thorns, and put it on his head, and they put on him a purple robe,
19:3 それからその前に進み出て、「ユダヤ人の王、ばんざい」と言った。そして平手でイエスを打ちつづけた。
19:3 And said, Hail, King of the Jews! and they stroke him with their hands.
19:4 するとピラトは、また出て行ってユダヤ人たちに言った、「見よ、わたしはこの人をあなたがたの前に引き出すが、それはこの人になんの罪も見いだせないことを、あなたがたに知ってもらうためである」。
19:4 Pilate therefore went forth again, and says unto them, Behold, I bring him forth to you, that all of you may know that I find no fault in him.
19:5 イエスはいばらの冠をかぶり、紫の上着を着たままで外へ出られると、ピラトは彼らに言った、「見よ、この人だ」。
19:5 Then came Jesus forth, wearing the crown of thorns, and the purple robe. And Pilate says unto them, Behold the man!
19:6 祭司長たちや下役どもはイエスを見ると、叫んで「十字架につけよ、十字架につけよ」と言った。ピラトは彼らに言った、「あなたがたが、この人を引き取って十字架につけるがよい。わたしは、かれにはなんの罪も見いだせない」。
19:6 When the chief priests therefore and officers saw him, they cried out, saying, Crucify him, crucify him. Pilate says unto them, Take all of you him, and crucify him: for I find no fault in him.
19:7 ユダヤ人たちは彼に答えた、「わたしたちには律法があります。その律法によれば、彼は自分を神の子としたのだから、死罪に当たる者です」。
19:7 The Jews answered him, We have a law, and by our law he ought to die, because he made himself the Son of God.
19:8 ピラトがこの言葉を聞いたとき、ますますおそれ、
19:8 When Pilate therefore heard that saying, (o. logos) he was the more afraid;
19:9 もう一度官邸にはいってイエスに言った、「あなたは、もともと、どこからきたのか」。しかしイエスはなんの答もなさらなかった。
19:9 And went again into the judgment hall, and says unto Jesus, Whence are you? But Jesus gave him no answer.
19:10 そこでピラトは言った、「何も答えないのか。わたしには、あなたを許す権威があり、また十字架にかける権威があることを知らないのか」。
19:10 Then says Pilate unto him, Speak you not unto me? know you not that I have power to crucify you, and have power to release you?
19:11 イエスは答えられた、「あなたは、上から賜るものでなければ、わたしに対してなんの権威もない。だから、わたしをあなたに引き渡した者の罪は、もっと大きい」。
19:11 Jesus answered, You could have no power at all against me, except it were given you from above: therefore he that delivered me unto you has the greater sin.
19:12 これを聞いて、ピラトはイエスを許そうと努めた。しかしユダヤ人たちが叫んで言った、「もしこの人を許したなら、あなたはカイザルの味方ではありません。自分を王とするものはすべて、カイザルにそむく者です」。
19:12 And from thenceforth Pilate sought to release him: but the Jews cried out, saying, If you let this man go, you are not Caesar's friend: whosoever makes himself a king speaks against Caesar.
19:13 ピラトはこの言葉を聞いて、イエスを外へ引き出して行き、敷石（ヘブル語ではガバタ）という場所で裁判の席についた。
19:13 When Pilate therefore heard that saying, (o. logos) he brought Jesus forth, and sat down in the judgment seat in a place that is called the Pavement, but in the Hebrew, Gabbatha.
19:14 その日は過越の準備の日であって、時は昼の十二時ころであった。ピラトはユダヤ人らに言った、「見よ、これがあなたがたの王だ」。
19:14 And it was the preparation of the passover, and about the sixth hour: and he says unto the Jews, Behold your King!
19:15 すると彼らは叫んだ、「殺せ、殺せ、彼を十字架につけよ」。ピラトは彼らに言った、「あなたがたの王をわたしが十字架につけるのか」。祭司長たちは答えた、「わたしたちには、カイザル以外には王はありません」。
19:15 But they cried out, Away with him, away with him, crucify him. Pilate says unto them, Shall I crucify your King? The chief priests answered, We have no king but Caesar.
19:16 そこでピラトは、十字架につけさせるために、イエスを彼らに引き渡した。彼らはイエスを引き取った。
19:16 Then delivered he him therefore unto them to be crucified. And they took Jesus, and led him away.
19:17 イエスはみずから十字架を背負って、されこうべ（ヘブル語ではゴルゴタ）という場所に出て行かれた。
19:17 And he bearing his cross went forth into a place called the place of a skull, which is called in the Hebrew Golgotha:
19:18 彼らはそこで、イエスを十字架につけた。イエスをまん中にして、ほかのふたりの者を両側に、イエスと一緒に十字架につけた。
19:18 Where they crucified him, and two other with him, on either side one, and Jesus in the midst.
19:19 ピラトは罪状書きを書いて、十字架の上にかけさせた。それには「ユダヤ人の王、ナザレのイエス」と書いてあった。
19:19 And Pilate wrote a title, and put it on the cross. And the writing was JESUS OF NAZARETH THE KING OF THE JEWS.
19:20 イエスが十字架にかけられた場所は都に近かったので、多くのユダヤ人がこの罪状書きを読んだ。それはヘブル、ローマ、ギリシャの国語で書いてあった。
19:20 This title then read many of the Jews: for the place where Jesus was crucified was nigh to the city: and it was written in Hebrew, and Greek, and Latin.
19:21 ユダヤ人の祭司長たちがピラトに言った、「『ユダヤ人の王』と書かずに、『この人は、ユダヤ人の王と自称していた』と書いてほしい」。
19:21 Then said the chief priests of the Jews to Pilate, Write not, The King of the Jews; but that he said, I am King of the Jews.
19:22 ピラトは答えた、「わたしが書いたことは、書いたままにしておけ」。
19:22 Pilate answered, What I have written I have written.
19:23 さて、兵卒たちはイエスを十字架につけてから、その上着をとって四つに分け、おのおの、その一つを取った。また下着を手に取ってみたが、それには縫い目がなく、上の方から全部一つに織ったものであった。
19:23 Then the soldiers, when they had crucified Jesus, took his garments, and made four parts, to every soldier a part; and also his coat: now the coat was without seam, woven from the top throughout.
19:24 そこで彼らは互いに言った、「それを裂かないで、だれのものになるか、くじを引こう」。これは、「彼らは互いにわたしの上着を分け合い、わたしの衣をくじ引きにした」という聖書が成就するためで、兵卒たちはそのようにしたのである。
19:24 They said therefore among themselves, Let us not rend it, but cast lots for it, whose it shall be: that the scripture might be fulfilled, which says, They parted my raiment among them, and for my vesture they did cast lots. These things therefore the soldiers did.
19:25 さてイエスの十字架のそばには、イエスの母と、母の姉妹と、クロパの妻マリヤと、マグダラのマリヤとが、たたずんでいた。
19:25 Now there stood by the cross of Jesus his mother, and his mother's sister, Mary the wife of Cleophas, and Mary Magdalene.
19:26 イエスは、その母と愛弟子とがそばに立っているのをごらんになって、母にいわれた、「婦人よごらんなさい。これはあなたの子です」。
19:26 When Jesus therefore saw his mother, and the disciple standing by, whom he loved, he says unto his mother, Woman, behold your son!
19:27 そこからこの弟子に言われた、「ごらんなさい。これはあなたの母です」。そのとき以来、この弟子はイエスの母を自分の家に引き取った。
19:27 Then says he to the disciple, Behold your mother! And from that hour that disciple took her unto his own home.
19:28 そののち、イエスは今や万事が終わったことを知って、「わたしは、かわく」と言われた。それは、聖書が全うされるためであった。
19:28 After this, Jesus knowing that all things were now accomplished, that the scripture might be fulfilled, says, I thirst.
19:29 そこに、酢いぶどう酒がいっぱい入れてある器がおいてあったので、人々は、このぶどう酒を含ませた海綿をヒソプの茎に結びつけて、イエスの口もとにさし出した。
19:29 Now there was set a vessel full of vinegar: and they filled a sponge with vinegar, and put it upon hyssop, and put it to his mouth.
19:30 すると、イエスはそのぶどう酒を受けて、「すべてが終わった」と言われた、首をたれて息をひきとられた。
19:30 When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the spirit. (o. pneuma)
19:31 さてユダヤ人たちは、その日が準備の日であったので、安息日に死体を十字架の上に残しておくまいと、（特にその安息日は大事な日であったから）、ピラトに願って、足を折った上で、死体を取りおろすことにした。
19:31 The Jews therefore, because it was the preparation, that the bodies should not remain upon the cross on the sabbath day, (for that sabbath day was an high day,) besought Pilate that their legs might be broken, and that they might be taken away.
19:32 そこで兵卒らがきて、イエスと一緒に十字架につけられた初めの者と、もうひとりの者との足を折った。
19:32 Then came the soldiers, and brake the legs of the first, and of the other which was crucified with him.
19:33 しかし、彼らがイエスのところにきた時、イエスはもう死んでおられるのを見て、その足を折ることはしなかった。
19:33 But when they came to Jesus, and saw that he was dead already, they brake not his legs:
19:34 しかし、ひとりの兵卒がやりでそのわきを突きさすと、すぐ血と水とが流れ出た。
19:34 But one of the soldiers with a spear pierced his side, and forthwith came there out blood and water.
19:35 それを見た者があかしをした。そして、そのあかしは真実である。その人は、自分が真実を語っていることを知っている。それは、それはあなたがたも信じるようになるためである。
19:35 And he that saw it bare record, and his record is true: and he knows that he says true, that all of you might believe.
19:36 これらのことが起こったのは、「その骨はくだかれないであろう」との聖書の言葉が、成就するためである。
19:36 For these things were done, that the scripture should be fulfilled, A bone of him shall not be broken.
19:37 また聖書のほかのところに、「彼らは自分が刺し通した者を見るであろう」とある。
19:37 And again another scripture says, They shall look on him whom they pierced.
19:38 そののち、ユダヤ人をはばかって、ひそかにイエスの弟子となったアリマタヤのヨセフという人が、イエスの死体を取りおろしたいと、ピラトに願い出た。ピラトはそれを許したので、彼はイエスの死体を取りおろしに行った。
19:38 And after this Joseph of Arimathaea, being a disciple of Jesus, but secretly for fear of the Jews, besought Pilate that he might take away the body of Jesus: and Pilate gave him leave. He came therefore, and took the body of Jesus.
19:39 また、前に、夜、イエスのみもとに行ったニコデモも、没薬と沈香とをまぜたものを百斤ほど持ってきた。
19:39 And there came also Nicodemus, which at the first came to Jesus by night, and brought a mixture of myrrh and aloes, about an hundred pound weight.
19:40 彼らは、イエスの死体を取りおろし、ユダヤ人の埋葬の習慣にしたがって、香料を入れて亜麻布で巻いた。
19:40 Then took they the body of Jesus, and wound it in linen clothes with the spices, as the manner of the Jews is to bury.
19:41 イエスが十字架にかけられた所には、一つの園があり、そこにはまだだれも葬られたことのない新しい墓があった。
19:41 Now in the place where he was crucified there was a garden; and in the garden a new tomb, wherein was never man yet laid.
19:42 その日はユダヤ人の準備の日であったので、その墓が近くにあったため、イエスをそこに納めた。
19:42 There laid they Jesus therefore because of the Jews' preparation day; for the tomb was nigh at hand.
20:1 さて、一週の初めの日に、朝早くまだ暗いうちに、マグダラのマリヤが墓に行くと、墓から石が取りのけてあるのを見た。
20:1 The first day of the week comes Mary Magdalene early, when it was yet dark, unto the tomb, and sees the stone taken away from the tomb.
20:2 そこで走って、シモン・ペテロとイエスが愛しておられた、もうひとりの弟子のところへ行って、彼らに言った、「だれかが、主を墓から取り去りました。どこへ置いたのか、わかりません」。
20:2 Then she runs, and comes to Simon Peter, and to the other disciple, whom Jesus loved, and says unto them, They have taken away the LORD out of the tomb, and we know not where they have laid him.
20:3 そこでペテロともうひとりの弟子は出かけて、墓へむかって行った。
20:3 Peter therefore went forth, and that other disciple, and came to the tomb.
20:4 ふたりは一緒に走り出したが、そのもうひとりの弟子の方が、ペテロよりも早く走って先に墓に着き、
20:4 So they ran both together: and the other disciple did outrun Peter, and came first to the tomb.
20:5 そして身をかがめてみると、亜麻布がそこに置いてあるのを見たが、中へははいらなかった。
20:5 And he stooping down, and looking in, saw the linen clothes lying; yet went he not in.
20:6 シモン・ペテロも続いてきて、墓の中へはいった。彼は亜麻布がそこに置いてあるのを見たが、
20:6 Then comes Simon Peter following him, and went into the tomb, and sees the linen clothes lie,
20:7 イエスの頭に巻いてあった布は亜麻布のそばにはなくて、はなれた別の場所にくるめてあった。
20:7 And the cloth, that was about his head, not lying with the linen clothes, but wrapped together in a place by itself.
20:8 すると、先に先に墓に着いたもうひとりの弟子もはいってきて、これを見て信じた。
20:8 Then went in also that other disciple, which came first to the tomb, and he saw, and believed.
20:9 しかし、彼らは死人のうちからイエスがよみがえるべきことをしるした聖句を、まだ悟っていなかった。
20:9 For as yet they knew not the scripture, that he must rise again from the dead.
20:10 それから、ふたりの弟子たちは自分の家に帰って行った。
20:10 Then the disciples went away again unto their own home.
20:11 しかし、マリヤは墓の外に立って泣いていた。そして泣きながら、身をかがめて墓の中をのぞくと、
20:11 But Mary stood without at the tomb weeping: and as she wept, she stooped down, and looked into the tomb,
20:12 白い衣を着たふたりの御使が、いえすの死体のおかれていた場所に、ひとりは頭の方に、ひとりは足の方に、すわっているのを見た。
20:12 And sees two angels in white sitting, the one at the head, and the other at the feet, where the body of Jesus had lain.
20:13 すると、彼らはマリヤに、「女よ、なぜ泣いているのか」と言った。マリヤは彼らに言った、「だれかが、わたしの主を取り去りました。そして、どこに置いたのか、わからないのです」。
20:13 And they say unto her, Woman, why weep you? She says unto them, Because they have taken away my LORD, and I know not where they have laid him.
20:14 そう言って、うしろをふり向くと、そこにイエスが立っておられるのを見た。しかし、それがイエスであることに気がつかなかった。
20:14 And when she had thus said, she turned herself back, and saw Jesus standing, and knew not that it was Jesus.
20:15 イエスは女に言われた、「女よ、なぜ泣いているのか。だれを捜しているのか」。マリヤは、その人が園の番人だと思って言った、「もしあなたが、あのかたを移したのでしたら、どこへ置いたのか、ぞうぞ、おっしゃって下さい。わたしがそのかたを引き取ります」。
20:15 Jesus says unto her, Woman, why weep you? whom seek you? She, supposing him to be the gardener, says unto him, Sir, if you have borne him behind, tell me where you have laid him, and I will take him away.
20:16 イエスは彼女に「マリヤよ」と言われた。マリヤはふり返って、イエスにむかってヘブル語で「ラボニ」と言った。それは、先生という意味である。
20:16 Jesus says unto her, Mary. She turned herself, and says unto him, Rabboni; which is to say, Master.
20:17 イエスは彼女に言われた、「わたしにさわってはいけない。わたしは、まだ父のみもとに上がっていないのだから。ただ、わたしの兄弟たちの所に行って、『わたしは、わたしの父またはあなたがたの父であって、わたしの神またはあなたがたの神であられるかたのみもとへ上がって行く』と、彼らに伝えなさい」。
20:17 Jesus says unto her, Touch me not; for I am not yet ascended to my Father: but go to my brethren, and say unto them, I ascend unto my Father, and your Father; and to my God, and your God.
20:18 マグダラのマリヤは弟子たちのところに行って、自分が主に会ったこと、またイエスがこれこれのことを自分に仰せになったことを、報告した。
20:18 Mary Magdalene came and told the disciples that she had seen the LORD, and that he had spoken these things unto her.
20:19 その日、すなわち、一周の初めの日の夕方、弟子たちはユダヤ人をおそれて、自分たちのおる所の戸をみなしめていると、イエスがはいってきて、彼らの中に立ち、「安かれ」と言われた。
20:19 Then the same day at evening, being the first day of the week, when the doors were shut where the disciples were assembled for fear of the Jews, came Jesus and stood in the midst, and says unto them, Peace be unto you.
20:20 そう言って、手とわきとを、彼らにお見せになった。弟子たちは主を見て喜んだ。
20:20 And when he had so said, he showed unto them his hands and his side. Then were the disciples glad, when they saw the LORD.
20:21 イエスはまた彼らに言われた、「安かれ。父がわたしをおつかわしになったように、わたしもまたあなたがたをつかわす」。
20:21 Then said Jesus to them again, Peace be unto you: as my Father has sent me, even so send I you.
20:22 そう言って、彼らに息を吹きかけて仰せになった、「聖霊を受けよ。あなたがたが許す罪は、だれの罪でもゆるされ、
20:22 And when he had said this, he breathed on them, and says unto them, Receive all of you the Holy Spirit: (o. pneuma)
20:23 あなたがたがゆるさずにおく罪は、そのまま残るであろう」。
20:23 Whomsoever sins all of you remit, they are remitted unto them; and whomsoever sins all of you retain, they are retained.
20:24 十二弟子のひとりで、デドモと呼ばれているトマスは、イエスがこられたとき、彼らと一緒にいなかった。
20:24 But Thomas, one of the twelve, called Didymus, was not with them when Jesus came.
20:25 ほかの弟子たちが、彼に「わたしたちは主にお目にかかった」と言うと、トマスは彼らに言った、「わたしはその手に釘のあとを見、わたしの指をその釘あとにさし入れ、また、わたしの手をそのわきにさし入れてみなければ、決して信じない」。
20:25 The other disciples therefore said unto him, We have seen the LORD. But he said unto them, Except I shall see in his hands the print of the nails, and put my finger into the print of the nails, and thrust my hand into his side, I will not believe.
20:26 八日の後、イエスの弟子たちはまた家の内におり、トマスも一緒にいた。戸はみな閉ざされていたが、イエスがはいってこられ、中に立って「安かれ」と言われた。
20:26 And after eight days again his disciples were within, and Thomas with them: then came Jesus, the doors being shut, and stood in the midst, and said, Peace be unto you.
20:27 それからトマスに言われた、「あなたの指をここにつけて、わたしの手を見なさい。手をのばしてわたしのわきにさし入れてみなさい。信じない者にならないで、信じる者になりなさい」。
20:27 Then says he to Thomas, Reach here your finger, and behold my hands; and reach here your hand, and thrust it into my side: and be not faithless, but believing.
20:28 トマスはイエスに答えて言った、「わが主よ、わが神よ」。
20:28 And Thomas answered and said unto him, My LORD and my God.
20:29 イエスは彼に言われた、「あなたはわたしを見たので信じたのか。見ないで信ずる者は、さいわいである」。
20:29 Jesus says unto him, Thomas, because you have seen me, you have believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed.
20:30 イエスは、この書に書かれていないしるしを、ほかにも多く、弟子たちの前で行われた。
20:30 And many other signs truly did Jesus in the presence of his disciples, which are not written in this book:
20:31 しかし、これらのことを書いたのは、あなたがたがイエスは神の子キリストであると信じるためであり、また、そう信じて。イエスの名によって命を得るためである。
20:31 But these are written, that all of you might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing all of you might have life through his name.
21:1 そののち、イエスはデベリヤの海辺で、ご自身をまた弟子たちにあらわされた。そのあらわれた次第は、こうである。
21:1 After these things Jesus showed himself again to the disciples at the sea of Tiberias; and likewise showed he himself.
21:2 シモン・ペテロが、デドモと呼ばれているトマス、ガリラヤのカナのナタナエル、ゼベタイの子らや、ほかのふたりの弟子たちと一緒にいた時のことである。
21:2 There were together Simon Peter, and Thomas called Didymus, and Nathanael of Cana in Galilee, and the sons of Zebedee, and two other of his disciples.
21:3 シモン・ペテロは彼らに「わたしは漁に行くのだ」と言うと、彼らは「わたしたちも一緒に行こう」と言った。彼らは出て行って船に乗った。しかし、その夜はなんの獲物もなかった。
21:3 Simon Peter says unto them, I go a fishing. They say unto him, We also go with you. They went forth, and entered into a ship immediately; and that night they caught nothing.
21:4 夜が明けたころ、イエスが岸に立っておられた。しかし弟子たちはそれがイエスだとは知らなかった。
21:4 But when the morning was now come, Jesus stood on the shore: but the disciples knew not that it was Jesus.
21:5 イエスは彼らに言われた、「子たちよ、何か食べるものがあるか」。彼らは「ありません」と答えた。
21:5 Then Jesus says unto them, Children, have all of you any food? They answered him, No.
21:6 すると、イエスは彼らに言われた、「船の右の方に網をおろして見なさい。そうすれば、何かとれるだろう」。彼らは網をおろすと、魚が多くとれたので、それを引き上げることができなかった。
21:6 And he said unto them, Cast the net on the right side of the ship, and all of you shall find. They cast therefore, and now they were not able to draw it for the multitude of fishes.
21:7 イエスを愛しておられた弟子が、ペテロに「あれは主だ」と言った。シモン・ペテロは主であると聞いて、裸になっていたため、上着をまとって海にとびこんだ。
21:7 Therefore that disciple whom Jesus loved says unto Peter, It is the Lord. Now when Simon Peter heard that it was the Lord, he girt his fisher's coat unto him, (for he was naked,) and did cast himself into the sea.
21:8 しかし、ほかの弟子たちは船に乗ったまま、魚のはいっている網を引きながら帰って行った。陸からあまり遠くない五十間ほどの所にいたからである。
21:8 And the other disciples came in a little ship; (for they were not far from land, but as it were two hundred cubits,) dragging the net with fishes.
21:9 彼らが陸に上って見ると、炭火がおこしてあって、その上に魚がのせてあり、またそこにパンがあった。
21:9 As soon then as they were come to land, they saw a fire of coals there, and fish laid thereon, and bread.
21:10 イエスは彼らに言われた、「今とった魚を少し持ってきなさい」。
21:10 Jesus says unto them, Bring of the fish which all of you have now caught.
21:11 シモン・ペテロが行って、網を陸へ引き上げると、百五十三びきの大きな魚でいっぱいになっていた。そんなに多かったが、網はさけないでいた。
21:11 Simon Peter went up, and drew the net to land full of great fishes, an hundred and fifty and three: and for all there were so many, yet was not the net broken.
21:12 イエスは彼らに言われた、「さあ、朝の食事をしなさい」。弟子たちは主であることがわかっていたので、だれも「あなたはどなたですか」と進んで尋ねる者がなかった。
21:12 Jesus says unto them, Come and dine. And none of the disciples durst ask him, Who are you? knowing that it was the Lord.
21:13 イエスはそこにきて、パンをとり彼らに与え、また魚も同じようにされた。
21:13 Jesus then comes, and takes bread, and gives them, and fish likewise.
21:14 イエスが死人の中からよみがえったのち、弟子たちにあらわれたのは、これで既に三度目である。
21:14 This is now the third time that Jesus showed himself to his disciples, after that he was risen from the dead.
21:15 彼らは食事をすませると、イエスはシモン・ペテロに言われた、「ヨハネの子シモンよ、あなたはこの人たちが愛する以上に、わたしを愛するか」。ペテロは言った、「主よ、そうです。わたしがあなたを愛することは、あなたがご存じです」。イエスは彼に「わたしの小羊を養いなさい」と言われた。
21:15 So when they had dined, Jesus says to Simon Peter, Simon, son of Jonas, love you me more than these? He says unto him, Yea, Lord; you know that I love you. He says unto him, Feed my lambs.
21:16 またもう一度彼に言われた、「ヨハネの子シモンよ、わたしを愛するか」。彼はイエスに言った、「主よ、そうです。わたしがあなたを愛することは、あなたがご存じです」。イエスは彼に言われた、「わたしの羊を飼いなさい」。
21:16 He says to him again the second time, Simon, son of Jonas, love you me? He says unto him, Yea, Lord; you know that I love you. He says unto him, Feed my sheep.
21:17 イエスは三度目に言われた、「ヨハネの子シモンよ、わたしを愛するか」。ペテロは「わたしを愛するか」と三度も言われたので、心をいためてイエスに言った、「主よ、あなたはすべをご存じです。わたしがあなたを愛していることは、おわかりになっています」。イエスは彼に言われた、「わたしの羊を養いなさい。
21:17 He says unto him the third time, Simon, son of Jonas, love you me? Peter was grieved because he said unto him the third time, Love you me? And he said unto him, Lord, you know all things; you know that I love you. Jesus says unto him, Feed my sheep.
21:18 よくよくあなたに言っておく。あなたが若かった時には、自分で帯をしめて、思いのまま歩きまわっていた。しかし年をとってからは、自分の手をのばすことになろう。そして、ほかの人があなたに帯を結びつけ、行きたくない所へ連れて行くであろう」。
21:18 Verily, verily, I say unto you, When you were young, you gird yourself, and walked where you would: but when you shall be old, you shall stretch forth your hands, and another shall gird you, and carry you where you would not.
21:19 これは、ペテロがどんな死に方で、神の栄光をあらわすかを示すために、お話になったのである。こう話してから、「わたしに従ってきなさい」と言われた。
21:19 This spoke he, signifying by what death he should glorify God. And when he had spoken this, he says unto him, Follow me.
21:20 ペテロはふり返ると、イエスの愛しておられた弟子がついて来るのを見た。この弟子は、あの夕食のときイエスの胸近くに寄りかかって、「主よ、あなたを裏切る者は、だれなのですか」と尋ねた人である。
21:20 Then Peter, turning about, sees the disciple whom Jesus loved following; which also leaned on his breast at supper, and said, Lord, which is he that betrays you?
21:21 ペテロはこの弟子を見て、イエスに言った、「主よ、この人はどうなのですか」。
21:21 Peter seeing him says to Jesus, Lord, and what shall this man do?
21:22 イエスは彼に言われた、「たとい、わたしの来る時まで彼が生き残っていることを、わたしが望んだとしても、あなたになんの係わりがあるか。あなたは、わたしに従ってきなさい」。
21:22 Jesus says unto him, If I will that he tarry till I come, what is that to you? follow you me.
21:23 こういうわけで、この弟子は死ぬことがないといううわさが、兄弟たちの間にひろまった。しかし、イエスは彼が死ぬことがないと言われたのではなく、ただ「たとい、わたしの来る時まで彼が生き残っていることを、わたしが望んだとしても、あなたにはなんの係わりがあるか」と言われただけである。
21:23 Then went this saying (o. logos) abroad among the brethren, that that disciple should not die: yet Jesus said not unto him, He shall not die; but, If I will that he tarry till I come, what is that to you?
21:24 これらの事についてあかしをし、またこれらの事を書いたのは、この弟子である。そして彼のあかしが真実であることを、わたしたちは知っている。
21:24 This is the disciple which testifies of these things, and wrote these things: and we know that his testimony is true.
21:25 イエスのなさったことは、このほかにもまだ数多くある。もしいちいち書きつけるならば、世界もその書かれた文書を納めきれないであろうと思う。
21:25 And there are also many other things which Jesus did, the which, if they should be written every one, I suppose that even the world itself could not contain the books that should be written. Amen.
