3: ヤベア王の十八にアヤがダのとなた。
13:1 Now in the eighteenth year of king Jeroboam began Abijah to reign over Judah.
13:2 彼は三年の間エルサレムで世を治めた。彼の母はギベアのウリエルの娘で、名をミカヤといった。
13:2 He reigned three years in Jerusalem. His mother's name also was Michaiah the daughter of Uriel of Gibeah. And there was war between Abijah and Jeroboam.
13:3 ここにアビヤとヤラベアムとの間に戦争が起り、アビヤは四十万の精兵から成る勇敢な軍勢をもって戦いにいで、ヤラベアムも大勇士から成る八十万の精兵をもって、これに向かって戦いの備えをした。
13:3 And Abijah set the battle in array with an army of valiant men of war, even four hundred thousand chosen men: Jeroboam also set the battle in array against him with eight hundred thousand chosen men, being mighty men of valour.
13:4 時にアビヤはエフライムの山地にあるゼマライム山の上に立って言った、「ヤラベアムおよびイスラエルの人々よ皆聞け。
13:4 And Abijah stood up upon mount Zemaraim, which is in mount Ephraim, and said, Hear me, you Jeroboam, and all Israel;
13:5 あなたがたはイスラエルの神、主が塩の契約をもってイスラエルの国をながくダビデとその子孫に賜わったことを知らないのか。
13:5 Ought all of you not to know that the LORD God of Israel gave the kingdom over Israel to David for ever, even to him and to his sons by a covenant of salt?
13:6 ところがダビデの子ソロモンの家来であるネバテの子ヤラベアムが起って、その主君にそむき、
13:6 Yet Jeroboam the son of Nebat, the servant of Solomon the son of David, has risen up, and has rebelled against his lord.
13:7 また卑しい無頼のともがらが集まって彼にくみし、ソロモンの子レハベアムに敵したが、レハベアムは若く、かつ意志が弱くてこれに当ることができなかった。
13:7 And there are gathered unto him vain men, the children of Belial, and have strengthened themselves against Rehoboam the son of Solomon, when Rehoboam was young and tenderhearted, and could not withstand them.
13:8 今また、あなたがたは大軍をたのみ、またヤラベアムが造って、あなたがたの神とした金の子牛をたのんで、ダビデの子孫の手にある主の国に敵対しようとしている。
13:8 And now all of you think to withstand the kingdom of the LORD in the hand of the sons of David; and all of you be a great multitude, and there are with your golden calves, which Jeroboam made you for gods.
13:9 またあなたがたはアロンの子孫である主の祭司とレビびととを追いだして、他の国々の民がするように祭司を立てたではないか。すなわちだれでも若い雄牛一頭、雄羊七頭を携えてきて、自分を聖別する者は皆あの神でない者の祭司とすることができた。
13:9 Have all of you not cast out the priests of the LORD, the sons of Aaron, and the Levites, and have made you priests after the manner of the nations of other lands? so that whosoever comes to consecrate himself with a young bullock and seven rams, the same may be a priest of them that are no gods.
13:10 しかしわれわれにおいては、主がわれわれの神であって、われわれは彼を捨てない。また主に仕える祭司はアロンの子孫であり、働きをなす者はレビびとである。
13:10 But as for us, the LORD is our God, and we have not forsaken him; and the priests, which minister unto the LORD, are the sons of Aaron, and the Levites wait upon their business:
13:11 彼らは朝ごと夕ごとに主に燔祭と、こうばしい香をささげ、供えのパンを純金の机の上に供え、また金の燭台とそのともしび皿を整えて、夕ごとにともすのである。このようにわれわれはわれわれの神、主の務を守っているが、あなたがたは彼を捨てた。
13:11 And they burn unto the LORD every morning and every evening burnt sacrifices and sweet incense: the showbread also set they in order upon the pure table; and the candlestick of gold with the lamps thereof, to burn every evening: for we keep the charge of the LORD our God; but all of you have forsaken him.
13:12 見よ、神はみずからわれわれと共におられて、われわれのかしらとなられ、また、その祭司たちはラッパを吹きならして、あなたがたを攻める。イスラエルの人々よ、あなたがたの先祖の神、主に敵して戦ってはならない。あなたがたは成功しない」。
13:12 And, behold, God himself is with us for our captain, and his priests with sounding trumpets to cry alarm against you. O children of Israel, fight all of you not against the LORD God of your fathers; for all of you shall not prosper.
13:13 ヤラベアムは伏兵を彼らのうしろに回らせたので、彼の軍隊はユダの前にあり、伏兵は彼らのうしろにあった。
13:13 But Jeroboam caused an ambushment to come about behind them: so they were before Judah, and the ambushment was behind them.
13:14 ユダはうしろを見ると、敵が前とうしろとにあったので、主に向かって呼ばわり、祭司たちはラッパを吹いた。
13:14 And when Judah looked back, behold, the battle was before and behind: and they cried unto the LORD, and the priests sounded with the trumpets.
13:15 そこでユダの人々はときの声をあげた。ユダの人々がときの声をあげると、神はヤラベアムとイスラエルの人々をアビヤとユダの前に打ち敗られたので、
13:15 Then the men of Judah gave a shout: and as the men of Judah shouted, it came to pass, that God stroke Jeroboam and all Israel before Abijah and Judah.
13:16 イスラエルの人々はユダの前から逃げた。神が彼らをユダの手に渡されたので、
13:16 And the children of Israel fled before Judah: and God delivered them into their hand.
13:17 アビヤとその民は、彼らをおびただしく撃ち殺した。イスラエルの殺されて倒れた者は五十万人、皆精兵であった。
13:17 And Abijah and his people slew them with a great slaughter: so there fell down slain of Israel five hundred thousand chosen men.
13:18 このように、この時イスラエルの人々は打ち負かされ、ユダの人々は勝を得た。彼らがその先祖の神、主を頼んだからである。
13:18 Thus the children of Israel were brought under at that time, and the children of Judah prevailed, because they relied upon the LORD God of their fathers.
13:19 アビヤはヤラベアムを追撃して数個の町を彼から取った。すなわちベテルとその村里、エシャナとその村里、エフロンとその村里である。
13:19 And Abijah pursued after Jeroboam, and took cities from him, Bethel with the towns thereof, and Jeshanah with the towns thereof, and Ephraim with the towns thereof.
13:20 ヤラベアムは、アビヤの世には再び力を得ることができず、主に撃たれて死んだ。
13:20 Neither did Jeroboam recover strength again in the days of Abijah: and the LORD struck him, and he died.
13:21 しかしアビヤは強くなり、妻十四人をめとり、むすこ二十二人、むすめ十六人をもうけた。
13:21 But Abijah waxed mighty, and married fourteen wives, and brings forth twenty and two sons, and sixteen daughters.
13:22 アビヤのその他の行為すなわちその行動と言葉は、預言者イドの注釈にしるされている。
13:22 And the rest of the acts of Abijah, and his ways, and his sayings, are written in the story of the prophet Iddo.
14:1 アビヤはその先祖たちと共に眠って、ダビデの町に葬られ、その子アサが代って王となった。アサの治世に国は十年の間、穏やかであった。
14:1 So Abijah slept with his fathers, and they buried him in the city of David: and Asa his son reigned in his position. In his days the land was quiet ten years.
14:2 アサはその神、主の目に良しと見え、また正しと見えることを行った。
14:2 And Asa did that which was good and right in the eyes of the LORD his God:
14:3 彼は異なる祭壇と、もろもろの高き所を取り除き、石柱をこわし、アシラ像を切り倒し、
14:3 For he took away the altars of the strange gods, and the high places, and brake down the images, and cut down the groves:
14:4 ユダに命じてその先祖たちの神、主を求めさせ、おきてと戒めとを行わせ、
14:4 And commanded Judah to seek the LORD God of their fathers, and to do the law and the commandment.
14:5 ユダのすべての町々から、高き所と香の祭壇とを取り除いた。そして国は彼のもとに穏やかであった。
14:5 Also he took away out of all the cities of Judah the high places and the images: and the kingdom was quiet before him.
14:6 彼は国が穏やかであったので、要害の町数個をユダに建てた。また主が彼に平安を賜わったので、この年ごろ戦争がなかった。
14:6 And he built fenced cities in Judah: for the land had rest, and he had no war in those years; because the LORD had given him rest.
14:7 彼はユダに言った、「われわれはこれらの町を建て、その周囲に石がきを築き、やぐらを建て、門と貫の木を設けよう。われわれがわれわれの神、主を求めたので、この国はなおわれわれのものであり、われわれが彼を求めたので、四方において、われわれに平安を賜わった」。こうして彼らは滞りなく建て終った。
14:7 Therefore he said unto Judah, Let us build these cities, and make about them walls, and towers, gates, and bars, while the land is yet before us; because we have sought the LORD our God, we have sought him, and he has given us rest on every side. So they built and prospered.
14:8 アサの軍隊はユダから出た者三十万人あって、盾とやりをとり、ベニヤミンから出た者二十八万人あって、小盾をとり、弓を引いた。これはみな大勇士であった。
14:8 And Asa had an army of men that bare targets and spears, out of Judah three hundred thousand; and out of Benjamin, that bare shields and drew bows, two hundred and fourscore thousand: all these were mighty men of valour.
14:9 エチオピヤびとゼラが、百万の軍隊と三百の戦車を率いて、マレシャまで攻めてきた。
14:9 And there came out against them Zerah the Ethiopian with an host of a thousand thousand, and three hundred chariots; and came unto Mareshah.
14:10 アサは出て、これを迎え、マレシャのゼパタの谷に戦いの備えをした。
14:10 Then Asa went out against him, and they set the battle in array in the valley of Zephathah at Mareshah.
14:11 時にアサはその神、主に向かって呼ばわって言った、「主よ、力のある者を助けることも、力のない者を助けることも、あなたにおいては異なることはありません。われわれの神、主よ、われわれをお助けください。われわれはあなたに寄り頼み、あなたの名によってこの大軍に当ります。主よ、あなたはわれわれの神です。どうぞ人あなたに勝たせないでください」。
14:11 And Asa cried unto the LORD his God, and said, LORD, it is nothing with you to help, whether with many, or with them that have no power: help us, O LORD our God; for we rest on you, and in your name we go against this multitude. O LORD, you are our God; let no man prevail against you.
14:12 そこで主はアサの前とユダの前でエチオピヤびとを撃ち敗られたので、エチオピヤびとは逃げ去った。
14:12 So the LORD stroke the Ethiopians before Asa, and before Judah; and the Ethiopians fled.
14:13 アサと彼に従う民は彼らをゲラルまで追撃したので、エチオピヤびとは倒れて、生き残った者はひとりもなかった。主と主の軍勢の前に撃ち破られたからである。ユダの人々の得たぶんどり物は非常に多かった。
14:13 And Asa and the people that were with him pursued them unto Gerar: and the Ethiopians were overthrown, that they could not recover themselves; for they were destroyed before the LORD, and before his host; and they carried away very much spoil.
14:14 彼らはまた、ゲラルの周囲の町々をことごとく撃ち破った。主の恐れが彼らの上に臨んだからである。そして彼らはそのすべての町をかすめ奪った。その内に多くの物があったからである。
14:14 And they stroke all the cities round about Gerar; for the fear of the LORD came upon them: and they spoiled all the cities; for there was exceeding much spoil in them.
14:15 また家畜をもっている者の天幕を襲い、多くの羊とらくだを奪い取って、エルサレムに帰った。
14:15 They stroke also the tents of cattle, and carried away sheep and camels in abundance, and returned to Jerusalem.
15:1 時に神の霊がオデデの子アザリヤに臨んだので、
15:1 And the Spirit of God came upon Azariah the son of Oded:
15:2 彼は出ていってアサを迎え、これに言った、「アサおよびユダとベニヤミンの人々よ、わたしに聞きなさい。あなたがたが主と共におる間は、主もあなたがたと共におられます。あなたがたが、もし彼を求めるならば、彼に会うでしょう。しかし、彼を捨てるならば、彼もあなたがたを捨てられるでしょう。
15:2 And he went out to meet Asa, and said unto him, Hear all of you me, Asa, and all Judah and Benjamin; The LORD is with you, while all of you be with him; and if all of you seek him, he will be found of you; but if all of you forsake him, he will forsake you.
15:3 そもそも、イスラエルには長い間、まことの神がなく、教をなす祭司もなく、律法もなかった。
15:3 Now for a long season Israel has been without the true God, and without a teaching priest, and without law.
15:4 しかし、悩みの時、彼らがイスラエルの神、主に立ち返り、彼を求めたので彼に会った。
15:4 But when they in their trouble did turn unto the LORD God of Israel, and sought him, he was found of them.
15:5 そのころは、出る者にも入る者にも、平安がなく、大いなる騒乱が国々のすべての住民を悩ました。
15:5 And in those times there was no peace to him that went out, nor to him that came in, but great vexations were upon all the inhabitants of the countries.
15:6 国は国に、町は町に撃ち砕かれた。神がもろもろの悩みをもって彼らを苦しめられたからです。
15:6 And nation was destroyed of nation, and city of city: for God did vex them with all adversity.
15:7 しかしあなたがたは勇気を出しなさい。手を弱くしてはならない。あなたがたのわざには報いがあるからです」。
15:7 Be all of you strong therefore, and let not your hands be weak: for your work shall be rewarded.
15:8 アサはこれらの言葉すなわちオデデの子アザリヤの預言を聞いて勇気を得、憎むべき偶像をユダとベニヤミンの全地から除き、また彼がエフライムの山地で得た町々から除き、主の宮の廊の前にあった主の祭壇を再興した。
15:8 And when Asa heard these words, and the prophecy of Oded the prophet, he took courage, and put away the abominable idols out of all the land of Judah and Benjamin, and out of the cities which he had taken from mount Ephraim, and renewed the altar of the LORD, that was before the porch of the LORD.
15:9 彼はまたユダとベニヤミンの人々およびエフライム、マナセ、シメオンから来て、彼らの間に寄留していた者を集めた。その神、主がアサと共におられるのを見て、イスラエルからアサのもとに下った者が多くあったからである。
15:9 And he gathered all Judah and Benjamin, and the strangers with them out of Ephraim and Manasseh, and out of Simeon: for they fell to him out of Israel in abundance, when they saw that the LORD his God was with him.
15:10 彼らはアサの治世の十五年の三月にエルサレムに集まり、
15:10 So they gathered themselves together at Jerusalem in the third month, in the fifteenth year of the reign of Asa.
15:11 携えてきたぶんどり物のうちから牛七百頭、羊七千頭をその日主にささげた。
15:11 And they offered unto the LORD the same time, of the spoil which they had brought, seven hundred oxen and seven thousand sheep.
15:12 そして彼らは契約を結び、心をつくし、精神をつくして先祖の神、主を求めることと、
15:12 And they entered into a covenant to seek the LORD God of their fathers with all their heart and with all their soul;
15:13 すべてイスラエルの神、主を求めない者は老幼男女の別なく殺さるべきことを約した。
15:13 That whosoever would not seek the LORD God of Israel should be put to death, whether small or great, whether man or woman.
15:14 そして彼らは大声をあげて叫び、ラッパを吹き、角笛を鳴らして、主に誓いを立てた。
15:14 And they swore unto the LORD with a loud voice, and with shouting, and with trumpets, and with cornets.
15:15 ユダは皆その誓いを喜んだ。彼らは心をつくして誓いを立て、精神をつくして主を求めたので、主は彼らに会い、四方で彼らに安息を賜わった。
15:15 And all Judah rejoiced at the oath: for they had sworn with all their heart, and sought him with their whole desire; and he was found of them: and the LORD gave them rest round about.
15:16 アサ王の母マアカがアシラのために憎むべき像を造ったので、アサは彼女をおとして太后とせず、その憎むべき像を切り倒して粉々に砕き、キデロン川でそれを焼いた。
15:16 And also concerning Maachah the mother of Asa the king, he removed her from being queen, because she had made an idol in a grove: and Asa cut down her idol, and stamped it, and burnt it at the brook Kidron.
15:17 ただし高き所はイスラエルから除かなかったが、アサの心は一生の間、正しかった。
15:17 But the high places were not taken away out of Israel: nevertheless the heart of Asa was perfect all his days.
15:18 彼はまた、その父のささげた物および自分のささげた物、すなわち銀、金並びに器物などを主の宮に携え入れた。
15:18 And he brought into the house of God the things that his father had dedicated, and that he himself had dedicated, silver, and gold, and vessels.
15:19 そしてアサの治世の三十五年までは再び戦争がなかった。
15:19 And there was no more war unto the five and thirtieth year of the reign of Asa.
16:1 アサの治世の三十六年にイスラエルの王バアシャはユダに攻め上り、ユダの王アサの所にだれをも出入りさせないためにラマを築いた。
16:1 In the six and thirtieth year of the reign of Asa Baasha king of Israel came up against Judah, and built Ramah, to the intent that he might let none go out or come in to Asa king of Judah.
16:2 そこでアサは主の宮と王の家の宝蔵から金銀を取り出し、ダマスコに住んでいるスリヤの王ベネハダデに贈って言った、
16:2 Then Asa brought out silver and gold out of the treasures of the house of the LORD and of the king's house, and sent to Benhadad king of Syria, that dwelt at Damascus, saying,
16:3 「わたしの父とあなたの父の間のように、わたしとあなたの間に同盟を結びましょう。わたしはあなたに金銀を贈ります。行って、あなたとイスラエルの王バアシャとの同盟を破り、彼をわたしから撤退させてください」。
16:3 There is a league between me and you, as there was between my father and your father: behold, I have sent you silver and gold; go, break your league with Baasha king of Israel, that he may depart from me.
16:4 ベネハダデはアサ王の言うことを聞き、自分の軍勢の長たちをつかわしてイスラエルの町々を攻め、イヨンとダンとアベル・マイムおよびナフタリのすべての倉の町を撃った。
16:4 And Benhadad hearkened unto king Asa, and sent the captains of his armies against the cities of Israel; and they stroke Ijon, and Dan, and Abelmaim, and all the store cities of Naphtali.
16:5 バアシャはこれを聞いて、ラマを築くことをやめ、その工事を廃した。
16:5 And it came to pass, when Baasha heard it, that he left off building of Ramah, and let his work cease.
16:6 そこでアサ王はユダの全国の人々を引き連れ、バアシャがラマを建てるために用いた石と木材を運んでこさせ、それをもってゲバとミヅパを建てた。
16:6 Then Asa the king took all Judah; and they carried away the stones of Ramah, and the timber thereof, wherewith Baasha was building; and he built therewith Geba and Mizpah.
16:7 そのころ先見者ハナニがユダの王アサのもとに来て言った、「あなたがスリヤの王に寄り頼んで、あなたの神、主に寄り頼まなかったので、スリヤ王の軍勢はあなたの手からのがれてしまった。
16:7 And at that time Hanani the seer came to Asa king of Judah, and said unto him, Because you have relied on the king of Syria, and not relied on the LORD your God, therefore is the host of the king of Syria escaped out of yours hand.
16:8 かのエチオピヤびとと、リビアびとは大軍で、その戦車と騎兵は、はなはだ多かったではないか。しかしあなたが主に寄り頼んだので、主は彼らをあなたの手に渡された。
16:8 Were not the Ethiopians and the Lubims a huge host, with very many chariots and horsemen? yet, because you did rely on the LORD, he delivered them into yours hand.
16:9 主の目はあまねく全地を行きめぐり、自分に向かって心を全うする者のために力をあらわされる。今度の事では、あなたは愚かな事をした。ゆえにこの後、あなたに戦争が臨むであろう」。
16:9 For the eyes of the LORD run back and forth throughout the whole earth, to show himself strong in the behalf of them whose heart is perfect toward him. Herein you have done foolishly: therefore from henceforth you shall have wars.
16:10 するとアサはその先見者を怒って、獄屋に入れた。この事のために激しく彼を怒ったからである。アサはまたそのころ民のある者をしえたげた。
16:10 Then Asa was angry with the seer, and put him in a prison house; for he was in a rage with him because of this thing. And Asa oppressed some of the people the same time.
16:11 見よ、アサの始終の行為は、ユダとイスラエルの列王の書にしるされている。
16:11 And, behold, the acts of Asa, first and last, lo, they are written in the book of the kings of Judah and Israel.
16:12 アサはその治世の三十九年に足を病み、その病は激しくなったが、その病の時にも、主を求めないで医者を求めた。
16:12 And Asa in the thirty and ninth year of his reign was diseased in his feet, until his disease was exceeding great: yet in his disease he sought not to the LORD, but to the physicians.
16:13 アサは先祖たちと共に眠り、その治世の四十一年に死んだ。
16:13 And Asa slept with his fathers, and died in the one and fortieth year of his reign.
16:14 人々は彼が自分のためにダビデの町に掘っておいた墓に葬り、製香の術をもって造った様々の香料を満たした床に横たえ、彼のためにおびただしく香をたいた。
16:14 And they buried him in his own sepulchers, which he had made for himself in the city of David, and laid him in the bed which was filled with sweet odours and divers kinds of spices prepared by the apothecaries' are: and they made a very great burning for him.
17:1 アサの子ヨシャパテがアサに代って王となり、イスラエルに向かって自分を強くし、
17:1 And Jehoshaphat his son reigned in his position, and strengthened himself against Israel.
17:2 ユダのすべての堅固な町々に軍隊を置き、またユダの地およびその父アサが取ったエフライムの町々に守備隊を置いた。
17:2 And he placed forces in all the fenced cities of Judah, and set garrisons in the land of Judah, and in the cities of Ephraim, which Asa his father had taken.
17:3 主はヨシャパテと共におられた。彼がその父ダビデの最初の道に歩んで、バアルに求めず、
17:3 And the LORD was with Jehoshaphat, because he walked in the first ways of his father David, and sought not unto Baalim;
17:4 その父の神に求めて、その戒めに歩み、イスラエルの行いにならわなかったからである。
17:4 But sought to the Lord God of his father, and walked in his commandments, and not after the doings of Israel.
17:5 それゆえ、主は国を彼の手に堅く立てられ、またユダの人々は皆ヨシャパテに贈り物を持ってきた。彼は大いなる富と誉とを得た。
17:5 Therefore the LORD established the kingdom in his hand; and all Judah brought to Jehoshaphat presents; and he had riches and honour in abundance.
17:6 そこで彼は主の道に心を励まし、さらに高き所とアシラ像とをユダから除いた。
17:6 And his heart was lifted up in the ways of the LORD: moreover he took away the high places and groves out of Judah.
17:7 彼はまたその治世の三年に、つかさたちベネハイル、オバデヤ、ゼカリヤ、ネタンエルおよびミカヤをつかわしてユダの町々で教えさせ、
17:7 Also in the third year of his reign he sent to his princes, even to Benhail, and to Obadiah, and to Zechariah, and to Nethaneel, and to Michaiah, to teach in the cities of Judah.
17:8 また彼らと共にレビびとのうちからシマヤ、ネタニヤ、ゼバデヤ、アサヘル、セミラモテ、ヨナタン、アドニヤ、トビヤ、トバドニヤをつかわし、またこれらのレビびとと共に祭司エリシャマとヨラムをもつかわした。
17:8 And with them he sent Levites, even Shemaiah, and Nethaniah, and Zebadiah, and Asahel, and Shemiramoth, and Jehonathan, and Adonijah, and Tobijah, and Tobadonijah, Levites; and with them Elishama and Jehoram, priests.
17:9 彼らは主の律法の書を携えて、ユダで教をなし、またユダの町々をことごとく巡回して、民の間に教をなした。
17:9 And they taught in Judah, and had the book of the law of the LORD with them, and went about throughout all the cities of Judah, and taught the people.
17:10 そこでユダの周囲の国々は皆主を恐れ、ヨシャパテと戦うことをしなかった。
17:10 And the fear of the LORD fell upon all the kingdoms of the lands that were round about Judah, so that they made no war against Jehoshaphat.
17:11 また、ペリシテびとのうちで贈り物や、みつぎの銀をヨシャパテの所に持ってくる者があり、またアラビヤびとは雄羊七千七百頭、雄やぎ七千七百頭を彼に持ってきた。
17:11 Also some of the Philistines brought Jehoshaphat presents, and tribute silver; and the Arabians brought him flocks, seven thousand and seven hundred rams, and seven thousand and seven hundred he goats.
17:12 こうしてヨシャパテはますます大いになり、ユダに要害および倉の町を建て、
17:12 And Jehoshaphat waxed great exceedingly; and he built in Judah castles, and cities of store.
17:13 ユダの町々に多くの軍需品を持ち、またエルサレムに大勇士である軍人たちを持っていた。
17:13 And he had much business in the cities of Judah: and the men of war, mighty men of valour, were in Jerusalem.

17:14 And these are the numbers of them according to the house of their fathers: Of Judah, the captains of thousands; Adnah the chief, and with him mighty men of valour three hundred thousand.
17:15 その次は軍長ヨハナンと彼に従う者二十八万人、
17:15 And next to him was Jehohanan the captain, and with him two hundred and fourscore thousand.
17:16 その次は喜んでその身を主にささげた者ジクリの子アマジヤと彼に従う大勇士二十万人。
17:16 And next him was Amasiah the son of Zichri, who willingly offered himself unto the LORD; and with him two hundred thousand mighty men of valour.
17:17 ベニヤミンから出た者のうちでは、エリアダという大勇士と彼に従う弓および盾を持つ者二十万人、
17:17 And of Benjamin; Eliada a mighty man of valour, and with him armed men with bow and shield two hundred thousand.
17:18 その次はヨザバデと彼に従う戦いの備えある者十八万人である。
17:18 And next him was Jehozabad, and with him an hundred and fourscore thousand ready prepared for the war.
17:19 これらは皆王に仕える者たちで、このほかにまたユダ全国の堅固な町々に、王が駐在させた者があった。
17:19 These waited on the king, beside those whom the king put in the fenced cities throughout all Judah.
18:1 ヨシャパテは大いなる富と誉とをもち、アハブと縁を結んだ。
18:1 Now Jehoshaphat had riches and honour in abundance, and joined affinity with Ahab.
18:2 彼は数年の後、サマリヤに下って、アハブをおとずれた。アハブは彼と彼に従ってきた民のために羊と牛を多くほふり、ラモテ・ギレアデに一緒に攻め上ることを彼にすすめた。
18:2 And after certain years he went down to Ahab to Samaria. And Ahab killed sheep and oxen for him in abundance, and for the people that he had with him, and persuaded him to go up with him to Ramothgilead.
18:3 イスラエルの王アハブはユダの王ヨシャパテに言った、「あなたはわたしと一緒にラモテ・ギレアデに攻めて行きますか」。ヨシャパテは答えた、「わたしはあなたと一つです、わたしの民はあなたの民と一つです。わたしはあなたと一緒に戦いに臨みましょう」。
18:3 And Ahab king of Israel said unto Jehoshaphat king of Judah, Will you go with me to Ramothgilead? And he answered him, I am as you are, and my people as your people; and we will be with you in the war.
18:4 ヨシャパテはまたイスラエルの王に言った、「まず主の言葉を求めなさい」。
18:4 And Jehoshaphat said unto the king of Israel, Enquire, I pray you, at the word of the LORD to day.
18:5 そこでイスラエルの王は預言者四百人を集めて彼らに言った、「われわれはラモテ・ギレアデに、戦いに行くべきか、あるいは控えるべきか」。彼らは言った、「上って行きなさい。神はそれを王の手にわたされるでしょう」。
18:5 Therefore the king of Israel gathered together of prophets four hundred men, and said unto them, Shall we go to Ramothgilead to battle, or shall I forbear? And they said, Go up; for God will deliver it into the king's hand.
18:6 ヨシャパテは言った、「ほかにわれわれが問うべき主の預言者はここにいませんか」。
18:6 But Jehoshaphat said, Is there not here a prophet of the LORD besides, that we might enquire of him?
18:7 イスラエルの王はヨシャパテに言った、「ほかになおひとりいます。われわれはこの人によって主に問うことができますが、彼はわたしについて良い事を預言したことがなく、常に悪いことだけを預言するので、わたしは彼を憎みます。その者はイムラの子ミカヤです」。ヨシャパテは言った、「王よ、そうは言わないでください」。
18:7 And the king of Israel said unto Jehoshaphat, There is yet one man, by whom we may enquire of the LORD: but I hate him; for he never prophesied good unto me, but always evil: the same is Micaiah the son of Imla. And Jehoshaphat said, Let not the king say so.
18:8 そこでイスラエルの王はひとりの役人を呼んで、「イムラの子ミカヤを急いで連れてきなさい」と言った。
18:8 And the king of Israel called for one of his officers, and said, Fetch quickly Micaiah the son of Imla.
18:9 さてイスラエルの王およびユダの王ヨシャパテは王の衣を着て、サマリヤの門の入口の広場におのおのその玉座に座し、預言者たちは皆その前で預言していた。
18:9 And the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat king of Judah sat either of them on his throne, clothed in their robes, and they sat in a void place at the entering in of the gate of Samaria; and all the prophets prophesied before them.
18:10 ケナアナの子ゼデキヤは鉄の角を造って言った、「主はこう仰せられます、『あなたはこれらの角をもってスリヤびとを突いて滅ぼし尽しなさい』」。
18:10 And Zedekiah the son of Chenaanah had made him horns of iron, and said, Thus says the LORD, With these you shall push Syria until they be consumed.
18:11 預言者たちは皆そのように預言して言った、「ラモテ・ギレアデに上っていって勝利を得なさい。主はそれを王の手にわたされるでしょう」。
18:11 And all the prophets prophesied so, saying, Go up to Ramothgilead, and prosper: for the LORD shall deliver it into the hand of the king.
18:12 さてミカヤを呼びに行った使者は彼に言った、「預言者たちは一致して王に良い事を言いました。どうぞ、あなたの言葉も、彼らのひとりの言葉のようにし、良い事を言ってください」。
18:12 And the messenger that went to call Micaiah spoke to him, saying, Behold, the words of the prophets declare good to the king with one assent; let your word therefore, I pray you, be like one of their's, and speak you good.
18:13 ミカヤは言った、「主は生きておられる。わが神の言われることをわたしは申します」。
18:13 And Micaiah said, As the LORD lives, even what my God says, that will I speak.
18:14 彼が王の所へ行くと、王は彼に言った、「ミカヤよ、われわれはラモテ・ギレアデに戦いに行くべきか、あるいは控えるべきか」。彼は言った、「上って行って勝利を得なさい。彼らはあなたの手にわたされるでしょう」。
18:14 And when he was come to the king, the king said unto him, Micaiah, shall we go to Ramothgilead to battle, or shall I forbear? And he said, Go all of you up, and prosper, and they shall be delivered into your hand.
18:15 しかし王は彼に言った、「幾たびあなたを誓わせたら、あなたは主の名をもって、ただ真実のみをわたしに告げるだろうか」。
18:15 And the king said to him, How many times shall I adjure you that you say nothing but the truth to me in the name of the LORD?
18:16 彼は言った、「わたしはイスラエルが皆牧者のない羊のように山に散っているのを見ました。すると主は『これらの者は主人をもっていない。彼らをそれぞれ安らかに、その家に帰らせよ』と言われました」。
18:16 Then he said, I did see all Israel scattered upon the mountains, as sheep that have no shepherd: and the LORD said, These have no master; let them return therefore every man to his house in peace.
18:17 イスラエルの王はヨシャパテに言った、「わたしはあなたに、彼はわたしについて良い事を預言せず、ただ悪い事だけを預言すると告げたではありませんか」。
18:17 And the king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, Did I not tell you that he would not prophesy good unto me, but evil?
18:18 ミカヤは言った、「それだから主の言葉を聞きなさい。わたしは主がその玉座に座し、天の万軍がその右左に立っているのを見たが、
18:18 Again he said, Therefore hear the word of the LORD; I saw the LORD sitting upon his throne, and all the host of heaven standing on his right hand and on his left.
18:19 主は、『だれがイスラエルの王アハブをいざなって、ラモテ・ギレアデに上らせ、彼を倒れさせるであろうか』と言われた。するとひとりは、こうしようと言い、ひとりは、ああしようと言った。
18:19 And the LORD said, Who shall entice Ahab king of Israel, that he may go up and fall at Ramothgilead? And one spoke saying after this manner, and another saying after that manner.
18:20 その時一つの霊が進み出て、主の前に立ち、『わたしが彼をいざないましょう』と言ったので、主は彼に『何をもってするか』と言われた。
18:20 Then there came out a spirit, and stood before the LORD, and said, I will entice him. And the LORD said unto him, Wherewith?
18:21 彼は『わたしが出て行って、偽りを言う霊となって、すべての預言者の口に宿りましょう』と言った。そこで主は『おまえは彼をいざなって、それをなし遂げるであろう。出て行って、そうしなさい』と言われた。
18:21 And he said, I will go out, and be a lying spirit in the mouth of all his prophets. And the Lord said, You shall entice him, and you shall also prevail: go out, and do even so.
18:22 それゆえ、主は偽りを言う霊をこの預言者たちの口に入れ、また主はあなたについて災を告げられたのです」。
18:22 Now therefore, behold, the LORD has put a lying spirit in the mouth of these your prophets, and the LORD has spoken evil against you.
18:23 するとケナアナの子ゼデキヤが近寄ってミカヤのほおを打って言った、「主の霊がどの道からわたしを離れて行って、あなたに語りましたか」。
18:23 Then Zedekiah the son of Chenaanah came near, and stroke Micaiah upon the cheek, and said, Which way went the Spirit of the LORD from me to speak unto you?
18:24 ミカヤは言った、「あなたが奥の間にはいって身を隠す日に見るでしょう」。
18:24 And Micaiah said, Behold, you shall see on that day when you shall go into an inner chamber to hide yourself.
18:25 イスラエルの王は言った、「ミカヤを捕え、町のつかさアモンと王の子ヨアシの所へ引いて行って、
18:25 Then the king of Israel said, Take all of you Micaiah, and carry him back to Amon the governor of the city, and to Joash the king's son;
18:26 言いなさい、『王はこう言う、この者を獄屋に入れ、少しばかりのパンと水をもって彼を養い、わたしが勝利を得て帰ってくるのを待て』と」。
18:26 And say, Thus says the king, Put this fellow in the prison, and feed him with bread of affliction and with water of affliction, until I return in peace.
18:27 ミカヤは言った、「あなたがもし勝利を得て帰るならば、主はわたしによって語られなかったのです」。また彼は言った、「あなたがたすべての民よ、聞きなさい」。
18:27 And Micaiah said, If you certainly return in peace, then has not the LORD spoken by me. And he said, Hearken, all you people.
18:28 こうしてイスラエルの王とユダの王ヨシャパテは、ラモテ・ギレアデに上った。
18:28 So the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat the king of Judah went up to Ramothgilead.
18:29 イスラエルの王はヨシャパテに言った、「わたしは姿を変えて戦いに行きましょう。しかしあなたは王の衣を着けなさい」。イスラエルの王は姿を変えて戦いに行った。
18:29 And the king of Israel said unto Jehoshaphat, I will disguise myself, and I will go to the battle; but put you on your robes. So the king of Israel disguised himself; and they went to the battle.
18:30 さて、スリヤの王は、その戦車隊長たちに命じて言った、「あなたがたは小さい者とも、大きい者とも戦ってはならない。ただイスラエルの王とのみ戦いなさい」。
18:30 Now the king of Syria had commanded the captains of the chariots that were with him, saying, Fight all of you not with small or great, save only with the king of Israel.
18:31 戦車隊長らはヨシャパテを見たとき、これはきっとイスラエルの王だと思ったので、身を巡らしてこれと戦おうとした。しかしヨシャパテが呼ばわったので、主はこれを助けられた。すなわち神は敵を彼から離れさせられた。
18:31 And it came to pass, when the captains of the chariots saw Jehoshaphat, that they said, It is the king of Israel. Therefore they compassed about him to fight: but Jehoshaphat cried out, and the LORD helped him; and God moved them to depart from him.
18:32 戦車隊長らは彼がイスラエルの王でないのを見たので、彼を追うことをやめて引き返した。
18:32 For it came to pass, that, when the captains of the chariots perceived that it was not the king of Israel, they turned back again from pursuing him.
18:33 しかし、ひとりの人が、なにごころなく弓を引いて、イスラエルの王の胸当と、くさずりの間を射たので、彼はその車の御者に言った、「わたしは傷を受けたから、車をめぐらして、わたしを軍中から運び出せ」。
18:33 And a certain man drew a bow at random, and stroke the king of Israel between the joints of the harness: therefore he said to his chariot man, Turn yours hand, that you may carry me out of the host; for I am wounded.
18:34 その日戦いは激しくなった。イスラエルの王は車の中に自分をささえて立ち、夕暮までスリヤびとに向かっていたが、日の入るころになって死んだ。
18:34 And the battle increased that day: nevertheless the king of Israel stayed himself up in his chariot against the Syrians until the even: and about the time of the sun going down he died.
19:1 ユダの王ヨシャパテは、つつがなくエルサレムの自分の家に帰った。
19:1 And Jehoshaphat the king of Judah returned to his house in peace to Jerusalem.
19:2 そのとき、先見者ハナニの子エヒウが出てヨシャパテを迎えて言った、「あなたは悪人を助け、主を憎む者を愛してよいのですか。それゆえ怒りが主の前から出て、あなたの上に臨みます。
19:2 And Jehu the son of Hanani the seer went out to meet him, and said to king Jehoshaphat, Should you help the ungodly, and love them that hate the LORD? therefore is wrath upon you from before the LORD.
19:3 しかしあなたには、なお良い事もあります。あなたはアシラ像を国の中から除き、心を傾けて神を求められました」。
19:3 Nevertheless there are good things found in you, in that you have taken away the groves out of the land, and have prepared yours heart to seek God.
19:4 ヨシャパテはエルサレムに住んでいたが、また出て、ベエルシバからエフライムの山地まで民の中を巡り、先祖たちの神、主に彼らを導き返した。
19:4 And Jehoshaphat dwelt at Jerusalem: and he went out again through the people from Beersheba to mount Ephraim, and brought them back unto the LORD God of their fathers.
19:5 彼はまたユダの国中、すべての堅固な町ごとに裁判人を置いた。
19:5 And he set judges in the land throughout all the fenced cities of Judah, city by city,
19:6 そして裁判人たちに言った、「あなたがたは自分のする事に気をつけなさい。あなたがたは人のために裁判するのではなく、主のためにするのです。あなたがたが裁判する時には、主はあなたがたと共におられます。
19:6 And said to the judges, Take heed what all of you do: for all of you judge not for man, but for the LORD, who is with you in the judgment.
19:7 だからあなたがたは主を恐れ、慎んで行いなさい。われわれの神、主には不義がなく、人をかたより見ることなく、まいないを取ることもないからです」。
19:7 Wherefore now let the fear of the LORD be upon you; take heed and do it: for there is no iniquity with the LORD our God, nor respect of persons, nor taking of gifts.
19:8 ヨシャパテはまたレビびと、祭司、およびイスラエルの氏族の長たちを選んでエルサレムに置き、主のために裁判を行い、争議の解決に当らせた。彼らはエルサレムに居住した。
19:8 Moreover in Jerusalem did Jehoshaphat set of the Levites, and of the priests, and of the chief of the fathers of Israel, for the judgment of the LORD, and for controversies, when they returned to Jerusalem.
19:9 ヨシャパテは彼らに命じて言った、「あなたがたは主を恐れ、真実と真心とをもって行わなければならない。
19:9 And he charged them, saying, Thus shall all of you do in the fear of the LORD, faithfully, and with a perfect heart.
19:10 すべてその町々に住んでいるあなたがたの兄弟たちから、血を流した事または律法と戒め、定めとおきてなどの事について訴えてきたならば、彼らをさとして、主の前に罪を犯させず、怒りがあなたがたと、あなたがたの兄弟たちに臨まないようにしなさい。そのようにすれば、あなたがたは罪を犯すことがないでしょう。
19:10 And what cause whatsoever shall come to you of your brethren that dwell in your cities, between blood and blood, between law and commandment, statutes and judgments, all of you shall even warn them that they trespass not against the LORD, and so wrath come upon you, and upon your brethren: this do, and all of you shall not trespass.
19:11 見よ、祭司長アマリヤは、あなたがたの上にいて、主の事をすべてつかさどり、イシマエルの子、ユダの家のつかさゼバデヤは王の事をすべてつかさどり、またレビびとはあなたがたの前にあって役人となります。雄々しく行動しなさい。主は正直な人と共におられます」。
19:11 And, behold, Amariah the chief priest is over you in all matters of the LORD; and Zebadiah the son of Ishmael, the ruler of the house of Judah, for all the king's matters: also the Levites shall be officers before you. Deal courageously, and the LORD shall be with the good.
20:1 この後モアブびと、アンモンびとおよびメウニびとらがヨシャパテと戦おうと攻めてきた。
20:1 It came to pass after this also, that the children of Moab, and the children of Ammon, and with them other beside the Ammonites, came against Jehoshaphat to battle.
20:2 その時ある人がきて、ヨシャパテに告げて言った、「海のかなたのエドムから大軍があなたに攻めて来ます。見よ、彼らはハザゾン・タマル（すなわちエンゲデ）にいます」。
20:2 Then there came some that told Jehoshaphat, saying, There comes a great multitude against you from beyond the sea on this side Syria; and, behold, they be in Hazazontamar, which is Engedi.
20:3 そこでヨシャパテは恐れ、主に顔を向けて助けを求め、ユダ全国に断食をふれさせた。
20:3 And Jehoshaphat feared, and set himself to seek the LORD, and proclaimed a fast throughout all Judah.
20:4 それでユダはこぞって集まり、主の助けを求めた。すなわちユダのすべての町から人々が来て主を求めた。
20:4 And Judah gathered themselves together, to ask help of the LORD: even out of all the cities of Judah they came to seek the LORD.
20:5 そこでヨシャパテは主の宮の新しい庭の前で、ユダとエルサレムの会衆の中に立って、
20:5 And Jehoshaphat stood in the congregation of Judah and Jerusalem, in the house of the LORD, before the new court,
20:6 言った、「われわれの先祖の神、主よ、あなたは天にいます神ではありませんか。異邦人のすべての国を治められるではありませんか。あなたの手には力があり、勢いがあって、あなたに逆らいうる者はありません。
20:6 And said, O LORD God of our fathers, are not you God in heaven? and rule not you over all the kingdoms of the heathen? and in yours hand is there not power and might, so that none is able to withstand you?
20:7 われわれの神よ、あなたはこの国の民をあなたの民イスラエルの前から追い払って、あなたの友アブラハムの子孫に、これを永遠に与えられたではありませんか。
20:7 Are not you our God, who did drive out the inhabitants of this land before your people Israel, and gave it to the seed of Abraham your friend for ever?
20:8 彼らはここに住み、あなたの名のためにここに聖所を建てて言いました、
20:8 And they dwelt therein, and have built you a sanctuary therein for your name, saying,
20:9 『つるぎ、審判、疫病、ききんなどの災がわれわれに臨む時、われわれはこの宮の前に立って、あなたの前におり、その悩みの中であなたに呼ばわります。すると、あなたは聞いて助けられます。あなたの名はこの宮にあるからです』と。
20:9 If, when evil comes upon us, as the sword, judgment, or pestilence, or famine, we stand before this house, and in your presence, (for your name is in this house,) and cry unto you in our affliction, then you will hear and help.
20:10 今アンモン、モアブ、およびセイル山の人々をごらんなさい。昔イスラエルがエジプトの国から出てきた時、あなたはイスラエルに彼らを侵すことをゆるされなかったので、イスラエルは彼らを離れて、滅ぼしませんでした。
20:10 And now, behold, the children of Ammon and Moab and mount Seir, whom you would not let Israel invade, when they came out of the land of Egypt, but they turned from them, and destroyed them not;
20:11 彼らがわれわれに報いるところをごらんください。彼らは来て、あなたがわれわれに賜わったあなたの領地からわれわれを追い払おうとしています。
20:11 Behold, I say, how they reward us, to come to cast us out of your possession, which you have given us to inherit.
20:12 われわれの神よ、あなたは彼らをさばかれないのですか。われわれはこのように攻めて来る大軍に当る力がなく、またいかになすべきかを知りません。ただ、あなたを仰ぎ望むのみです」。
20:12 O our God, will you not judge them? for we have no might against this great company that comes against us; neither know we what to do: but our eyes are upon you.
20:13 ユダの人々はその幼な子、その妻、および子供たちと共に皆主の前に立っていた。
20:13 And all Judah stood before the LORD, with their little ones, their wives, and their children.
20:14 その時主の霊が会衆の中でアサフの子孫であるレビびとヤハジエルに臨んだ。ヤハジエルはゼカリヤの子、ゼカリヤはベナヤの子、ベナヤはエイエルの子、エイエルはマッタニヤの子である。
20:14 Then upon Jahaziel the son of Zechariah, the son of Benaiah, the son of Jeiel, the son of Mattaniah, a Levite of the sons of Asaph, came the Spirit of the LORD in the midst of the congregation;
20:15 ヤハジエルは言った、「ユダの人々、エルサレムの住民、およびヨシャパテ王よ、聞きなさい。主はあなたがたにこう仰せられる、『この大軍のために恐れてはならない。おののいてはならない。これはあなたがたの戦いではなく、主の戦いだからである。
20:15 And he said, Hearken all of you, all Judah, and all of you inhabitants of Jerusalem, and you king Jehoshaphat, Thus says the LORD unto you, Be not afraid nor dismayed by reason of this great multitude; for the battle is not yours, but God's.
20:16 あす、彼らの所へ攻め下りなさい。見よ、彼らはヂヅの坂から上って来る。あなたがたはエルエルの野の東、谷の端でこれに会うであろう。
20:16 Tomorrow go all of you down against them: behold, they come up by the cliff of Ziz; and all of you shall find them at the end of the brook, before the wilderness of Jeruel.
20:17 この戦いには、あなたがたは戦うに及ばない。ユダおよびエルサレムよ、あなたがたは進み出て立ち、あなたがたと共におられる主の勝利を見なさい。恐れてはならない。おののいてはならない。あす、彼らの所に攻めて行きなさい。主はあなたがたと共におられるからである』」。
20:17 All of you shall not need to fight in this battle: set yourselves, stand all of you still, and see the salvation of the LORD with you, O Judah and Jerusalem: fear not, nor be dismayed; tomorrow go out against them: for the LORD will be with you.
20:18 ヨシャパテは地にひれ伏した。ユダの人々およびエルサレムの民も主の前に伏して、主を拝した。
20:18 And Jehoshaphat bowed his head with his face to the ground: and all Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem fell before the LORD, worshipping the LORD.
20:19 その時コハテびとの子孫、およびコラびとの子孫であるレビびとが立ち上がり、大声をあげてイスラエルの神、主をさんびした。
20:19 And the Levites, of the children of the Kohathites, and of the children of the Korhites, stood up to praise the LORD God of Israel with a loud voice on high.
20:20 彼らは朝早く起きてテコアの野に出て行った。その出て行くとき、ヨシャパテは立って言った、「ユダの人々およびエルサレムの民よ、わたしに聞きなさい。あなたがたの神、主を信じなさい。そうすればあなたがたは堅く立つことができる。主の預言者を信じなさい。そうすればあなたがたは成功するでしょう」。
20:20 And they rose early in the morning, and went forth into the wilderness of Tekoa: and as they went forth, Jehoshaphat stood and said, Hear me, O Judah, and all of you inhabitants of Jerusalem; Believe in the LORD your God, so shall all of you be established; believe his prophets, so shall all of you prosper.
20:21 彼はまた民と相談して人々を任命し、聖なる飾りを着けて軍勢の前に進ませ、主に向かって歌をうたい、かつさんびさせ、／「主に感謝せよ、／そのいつくしみはとこしえに絶えることがない」／と言わせた。
20:21 And when he had consulted with the people, he appointed singers unto the LORD, and that should praise the beauty of holiness, as they went out before the army, and to say, Praise the LORD; for his mercy endures for ever.
20:22 そして彼らが歌をうたい、さんびし始めた時、主は伏兵を設け、かのユダに攻めてきたアンモン、モアブ、セイル山の人々に向かわせられたので、彼らは打ち敗られた。
20:22 And when they began to sing and to praise, the LORD set ambushments against the children of Ammon, Moab, and mount Seir, which were come against Judah; and they were smitten.
20:23 すなわちアンモンとモアブの人々は立ち上がって、セイル山の民に敵し、彼らを殺して全く滅ぼしたが、セイルの民を殺し尽すに及んで、彼らもおのおの互に助けて滅ぼしあった。
20:23 For the children of Ammon and Moab stood up against the inhabitants of mount Seir, utterly to slay and destroy them: and when they had made an end of the inhabitants of Seir, every one helped to destroy another.
20:24 ユダの人々は野の物見やぐらへ行って、かの群衆を見たが、地に倒れた死体だけであって、ひとりものがれた者はなかった。
20:24 And when Judah came toward the watch tower in the wilderness, they looked unto the multitude, and, behold, they were dead bodies fallen to the earth, and none escaped.
20:25 それでヨシャパテとその民は彼らの物を奪うために来て見ると、多数の家畜、財宝、衣服および宝石などおびただしくあったので、おのおのそれをはぎ取ったが、運びきれないほどたくさんで、かすめ取るに三日もかかった。それほど物が多かったのである。
20:25 And when Jehoshaphat and his people came to take away the spoil of them, they found among them in abundance both riches with the dead bodies, and precious jewels, which they stripped off for themselves, more than they could carry away: and they were three days in gathering of the spoil, it was so much.
20:26 四日目に彼らはベラカの谷に集まり、その所で主を祝福した。それでその所の名を今日までベラカの谷と呼んでいる。
20:26 And on the fourth day they assembled themselves in the valley of Berachah; for there they blessed the LORD: therefore the name of the same place was called, The valley of Berachah, unto this day.
20:27 そしてユダとエルサレムの人々は皆ヨシャパテを先に立て、喜んでエルサレムに帰ってきた。主が彼らにその敵のことによって喜びを与えられたからである。
20:27 Then they returned, every man of Judah and Jerusalem, and Jehoshaphat in the forefront of them, to go again to Jerusalem with joy; for the LORD had made them to rejoice over their enemies.
20:28 すなわち彼らは立琴、琴およびラッパをもってエルサレムの主の宮に来た。
20:28 And they came to Jerusalem with psalteries and harps and trumpets unto the house of the LORD.
20:29 そしてもろもろの国の民は主がイスラエルの敵と戦われたことを聞いて神を恐れた。
20:29 And the fear of God was on all the kingdoms of those countries, when they had heard that the LORD fought against the enemies of Israel.
20:30 こうして神が四方に安息を賜わったので、ヨシャパテの国は穏やかであった。
20:30 So the realm of Jehoshaphat was quiet: for his God gave him rest round about.
20:31 このようにヨシャパテはユダを治めた。彼は三十五歳の時、王となり、二十五年の間エルサレムで世を治めた。彼の母の名はアズバといってシルヒの娘である。
20:31 And Jehoshaphat reigned over Judah: he was thirty and five years old when he began to reign, and he reigned twenty and five years in Jerusalem. And his mother's name was Azubah the daughter of Shilhi.
20:32 ヨシャパテは父アサの道を歩んでそれを離れず、主の目に正しいと見られることを行った。
20:32 And he walked in the way of Asa his father, and departed not from it, doing that which was right in the sight of the LORD.
20:33 しかし高き所は除かず、また民はその先祖の神に心を傾けなかった。
20:33 Nevertheless the high places were not taken away: for as yet the people had not prepared their hearts unto the God of their fathers.
20:34 ヨシャパテのその他の始終の行為は、ハナニの子エヒウの書にしるされ、イスラエルの列王の書に載せられてある。
20:34 Now the rest of the acts of Jehoshaphat, first and last, behold, they are written in the book of Jehu the son of Hanani, who is mentioned in the book of the kings of Israel.
20:35 この後ユダの王ヨシャパテはイスラエルの王アハジヤと相結んだ。アハジヤは悪を行った。
20:35 And after this did Jehoshaphat king of Judah join himself with Ahaziah king of Israel, who did very wickedly:
20:36 ヨシャパテはタルシシへ行く船を造るためにアハジヤと相結び、エジオン・ゲベルで一緒に船数隻を造った。
20:36 And he joined himself with him to make ships to go to Tarshish: and they made the ships in Eziongaber.
20:37 その時マレシャのドダワの子エリエゼルはヨシャパテに向かって預言し、「あなたはアハジヤと相結んだので、主はあなたの造った物をこわされます」と言ったが、その船は難破して、タルシシへ行くことができなかった。
20:37 Then Eliezer the son of Dodavah of Mareshah prophesied against Jehoshaphat, saying, Because you have joined yourself with Ahaziah, the LORD has broken your works. And the ships were broken, that they were not able to go to Tarshish.
21:1 ヨシャパテは先祖たちと共に眠り、先祖たちと共にダビデの町に葬られ、その子ヨラムが代って王となった。
21:1 Now Jehoshaphat slept with his fathers, and was buried with his fathers in the city of David. And Jehoram his son reigned in his position.
21:2 ヨシャパテの子であるその兄弟たちはアザリヤ、エヒエル、ゼカリヤ、アザリヤ、ミカエルおよびシパテヤで、皆ユダの王ヨシャパテの子たちであった。
21:2 And he had brethren the sons of Jehoshaphat, Azariah, and Jehiel, and Zechariah, and Azariah, and Michael, and Shephatiah: all these were the sons of Jehoshaphat king of Israel.
21:3 その父は彼らに金、銀、宝物の賜物を多く与え、またユダの要害の町々を与えたが、ヨラムは長子なので、国はヨラムに与えた。
21:3 And their father gave them great gifts of silver, and of gold, and of precious things, with fenced cities in Judah: but the kingdom gave he to Jehoram; because he was the firstborn.
21:4 ヨラムはその父の位に登って強くなった時、その兄弟たちをことごとくつるぎにかけて殺し、またユダのつかさたち数人を殺した。
21:4 Now when Jehoram was risen up to the kingdom of his father, he strengthened himself, and slew all his brethren with the sword, and divers also of the princes of Israel.
21:5 ヨラムは位についた時三十二歳で、エルサレムで八年の間世を治めた。
21:5 Jehoram was thirty and two years old when he began to reign, and he reigned eight years in Jerusalem.
21:6 彼はアハブの家がしたようにイスラエルの王たちの道に歩んだ。アハブの娘を妻としたからである。このように彼は主の目の前に悪をおこなったが、
21:6 And he walked in the way of the kings of Israel, like did the house of Ahab: for he had the daughter of Ahab to wife: and he wrought that which was evil in the eyes of the LORD.
21:7 主はさきにダビデと結ばれた契約のゆえに、また彼とその子孫とにながく、ともしびを与えると約束されたことによって、ダビデの家を滅ぼすことを好まれなかった。
21:7 Nevertheless the LORD would not destroy the house of David, because of the covenant that he had made with David, and as he promised to give a light to him and to his sons for ever.
21:8 ヨラムの世にエドムがそむいて、ユダの支配を脱し、みずから王を立てたので、
21:8 In his days the Edomites revolted from under the dominion of Judah, and made themselves a king.
21:9 ヨラムはその将校たち、およびすべての戦車を従えて渡って行き、夜のうちに立ち上がって、自分を包囲しているエドムびととその戦車の隊長たちを撃った。
21:9 Then Jehoram went forth with his princes, and all his chariots with him: and he rose up by night, and stroke the Edomites which compassed him in, and the captains of the chariots.
21:10 エドムはこのようにそむいてユダの支配を脱し、今日に至っている。そのころリブナもまたそむいてユダの支配を脱した。ヨラムが先祖たちの神、主を捨てたからである。
21:10 So the Edomites revolted from under the hand of Judah unto this day. The same time also did Libnah revolt from under his hand; because he had forsaken the LORD God of his fathers.
21:11 彼はまたユダの山地に高き所を造って、エルサレムの民に姦淫を行わせ、ユダを惑わした。
21:11 Moreover he made high places in the mountains of Judah and caused the inhabitants of Jerusalem to commit fornication, and compelled Judah thereto.
21:12 その時預言者エリヤから次のような一通の手紙がヨラムのもとに来た、「あなたの先祖ダビデの神、主はこう仰せられる、『あなたは父ヨシャパテの道に歩まず、またユダの王アサの道に歩まないで、
21:12 And there came a writing to him from Elijah the prophet, saying, Thus says the LORD God of David your father, Because you have not walked in the ways of Jehoshaphat your father, nor in the ways of Asa king of Judah,
21:13 イスラエルの王たちの道に歩み、ユダとエルサレムの民に、かのアハブの家がイスラエルに姦淫を行わせたように、姦淫を行わせ、またあなたの父の家の者で、あなたにまさっているあなたの兄弟たちを殺したゆえ、
21:13 But have walked in the way of the kings of Israel, and have made Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem to go a whoring, like to the whoredoms of the house of Ahab, and also have slain your brethren of your father's house, which were better than yourself:
21:14 主は大いなる災をもってあなたの民と子供と妻たちと、すべての所有を撃たれる。
21:14 Behold, with a great plague will the LORD strike your people, and your children, and your wives, and all your goods:
21:15 あなたはまた内臓の病気にかかって大病になり、それが日に日に重くなって、ついに内臓が出るようになる』」。
21:15 And you shall have great sickness by disease of your bowels, until your bowels fall out by reason of the sickness day by day.
21:16 その時、主はヨラムに対してエチオピヤびとの近くに住んでいるペリシテびととアラビヤびとの霊を振り起されたので、
21:16 Moreover the LORD stirred up against Jehoram the spirit of the Philistines, and of the Arabians, that were near the Ethiopians:
21:17 彼らはユダに攻め上って、これを侵し、王の家にある貨財をことごとく奪い去り、またヨラムの子供と妻たちをも奪い去ったので、末の子エホアハズのほかには、ひとりも残った者がなかった。
21:17 And they came up into Judah, and brake into it, and carried away all the substance that was found in the king's house, and his sons also, and his wives; so that there was not a son left him, save Jehoahaz, the youngest of his sons.
21:18 このもろもろの事の後、主は彼を撃って内臓にいえがたい病気を起させられた。
21:18 And after all this the LORD stroke him in his bowels with an incurable disease.
21:19 時がたって、二年の終りになり、その内臓が病気のために出て、重い病苦によって死んだ。民は彼の先祖のために香をたいたように、彼のために香をたかなかった。
21:19 And it came to pass, that in process of time, after the end of two years, his bowels fell out by reason of his sickness: so he died of sore diseases. And his people made no burning for him, like the burning of his fathers.
21:20 ヨラムはその位についた時三十二歳で、八年の間エルサレムで世を治め、ついに死んだ。ひとりも彼を惜しむ者がなかった。人々は彼をダビデの町に葬ったが、王たちの墓にではなかった。
21:20 Thirty and two years old was he when he began to reign, and he reigned in Jerusalem eight years, and departed without being desired. Nevertheless they buried him in the city of David, but not in the sepulchers of the kings.
22:1 エルサレムの民はヨラムの末の子アハジヤを彼の代りに王とした。かつてアラビヤびとと一緒に陣営に攻めてきた一隊の者が上の子たちをことごとく殺したので、ユダの王ヨラムの子アハジヤが王となったのである。
22:1 And the inhabitants of Jerusalem made Ahaziah his youngest son king in his position: for the band of men that came with the Arabians to the camp had slain all the eldest. So Ahaziah the son of Jehoram king of Judah reigned.
22:2 アハジヤは王となった時四十二歳で、エルサレムで一年の間世を治めた。その母はオムリの娘で名をアタリヤといった。
22:2 Forty and two years old was Ahaziah when he began to reign, and he reigned one year in Jerusalem. His mother's name also was Athaliah the daughter of Omri.
22:3 アハジヤもまたアハブの家の道に歩んだ。その母が彼の相談相手となって悪を行わせたからである。
22:3 He also walked in the ways of the house of Ahab: for his mother was his counsellor to do wickedly.
22:4 彼はまたアハブの家がしたように主の目の前に悪を行った。すなわちその父が死んだ後、アハブの家の者がその相談役となったので、彼はついに自分を滅ぼすに至った。
22:4 Wherefore he did evil in the sight of the LORD like the house of Ahab: for they were his counsellors after the death of his father to his destruction.
22:5 アハジヤはまた彼らの勧めに従って、イスラエルの王アハブの子ヨラムと共にラモテ・ギレアデへ行き、スリヤの王ハザエルと戦ったが、スリヤびとはヨラムに傷を負わせた。
22:5 He walked also after their counsel, and went with Jehoram the son of Ahab king of Israel to war against Hazael king of Syria at Ramothgilead: and the Syrians stroke Joram.
22:6 そこでヨラムはスリヤの王ハザエルと戦った時、ラマで負ったその傷をいやすためにエズレルに帰った。ユダの王ヨラムの子アハジヤはアハブの子ヨラムが病気なのでエズレルに下ってこれを見舞った。
22:6 And he returned to be healed in Jezreel because of the wounds which were given him at Ramah, when he fought with Hazael king of Syria. And Azariah the son of Jehoram king of Judah went down to see Jehoram the son of Ahab at Jezreel, because he was sick.
22:7 アハジヤがヨラムを見舞に行ったことによって滅びに至ったのは神によって定められたことである。すなわち彼がそこに着いた時、ヨラムと一緒に出て、ニムシの子エヒウを迎えた。エヒウは主がアハブの家を断ち滅ぼすために油を注がれた者である。
22:7 And the destruction of Ahaziah was of God by coming to Joram: for when he was come, he went out with Jehoram against Jehu the son of Nimshi, whom the LORD had anointed to cut off the house of Ahab.
22:8 エヒウはアハブの家を罰するにあたって、ユダのつかさたち、およびアハジヤの兄弟たちの子らがアハジヤに仕えているのを見たので、彼らをも殺した。
22:8 And it came to pass, that, when Jehu was executing judgment upon the house of Ahab, and found the princes of Judah, and the sons of the brethren of Ahaziah, that ministered to Ahaziah, he slew them.
22:9 アハジヤはサマリヤに隠れていたが、エヒウが彼を捜し求めたので、人々は彼を捕え、エヒウのもとに引いてきて、彼を殺した。ただし「彼は心をつくして主を求めたヨシャパテの子である」と人々は言ったのでこれを葬った。こうしてアハジヤの家には国を統べ治めうる者がなくなった。
22:9 And he sought Ahaziah: and they caught him, (for he was hid in Samaria,) and brought him to Jehu: and when they had slain him, they buried him: Because, said they, he is the son of Jehoshaphat, who sought the LORD with all his heart. So the house of Ahaziah had no power to keep still the kingdom.
22:10 アハジヤの母アタリヤは自分の子の死んだのを見て、立ってユダの家の王子をことごとく滅ぼしたが、
22:10 But when Athaliah the mother of Ahaziah saw that her son was dead, she arose and destroyed all the seed royal of the house of Judah.
22:11 王の娘エホシバはアハジヤの子ヨアシを王の子たちの殺される者のうちから盗み取り、彼とそのうばを寝室においた。こうしてエホシバがヨアシをアタリヤから隠したので、アタリヤはヨアシを殺さなかった。エホシバはヨラム王の娘、またアハジヤの妹で、祭司エホヤダの妻である。
22:11 But Jehoshabeath, the daughter of the king, took Joash the son of Ahaziah, and stole him from among the king's sons that were slain, and put him and his nurse in a bedchamber. So Jehoshabeath, the daughter of king Jehoram, the wife of Jehoiada the priest, (for she was the sister of Ahaziah,) hid him from Athaliah, so that she slew him not.
22:12 こうしてヨアシは神の宮に隠れて彼らと共におること六年、その間アタリヤが国を治めた。
22:12 And he was with them hid in the house of God six years: and Athaliah reigned over the land.
23:1 第七年になって、エホヤダは勇気をだしてエロハムの子アザリヤ、ヨハナンの子イシマエル、オベデの子アザリヤ、アダヤの子マアセヤ、ジクリの子エリシャパテなどの百人の長たちを招いて契約を結ばせた。
23:1 And in the seventh year Jehoiada strengthened himself, and took the captains of hundreds, Azariah the son of Jeroham, and Ishmael the son of Jehohanan, and Azariah the son of Obed, and Maaseiah the son of Adaiah, and Elishaphat the son of Zichri, into covenant with him.
23:2 そこで彼らはユダを行きめぐって、ユダのすべての町からレビびとを集め、またイスラエルの氏族の長たちを集めて、エルサレムに来た。
23:2 And they went about in Judah, and gathered the Levites out of all the cities of Judah, and the chief of the fathers of Israel, and they came to Jerusalem.
23:3 そしてその会衆は皆神の宮で王と契約を結んだ。その時エホヤダは彼らに言った、「主がダビデの子孫のことについて言われたように、王の子が位につくべきです。
23:3 And all the congregation made a covenant with the king in the house of God. And he said unto them, Behold, the king's son shall reign, as the LORD has said of the sons of David.
23:4 あなたがたのなすべき事はこれです。すなわちあなたがた祭司およびレビびとの安息日にはいって来る者の、三分の一は門を守る者となり、
23:4 This is the thing that all of you shall do; A third part of you entering on the sabbath, of the priests and of the Levites, shall be porters of the doors;
23:5 三分の一は王の家におり、三分の一は礎の門におり、民は皆、主の宮の庭にいなさい。
23:5 And a third part shall be at the king's house; and a third part at the gate of the foundation: and all the people shall be in the courts of the house of the LORD.
23:6 祭司と、勤めをするレビびとのほかは、だれも主の宮に、はいってはならない。彼らは聖なる者であるから、はいることができる。民は皆、主の命令を守らなければならない。
23:6 But let none come into the house of the LORD, save the priests, and they that minister of the Levites; they shall go in, for they are holy: but all the people shall keep the watch of the LORD.
23:7 レビびとはめいめい手に武器をとって王のまわりに立たなければならない。宮にはいる者をすべて殺しなさい。あなたがたは王がはいる時にも出る時にも、王と共にいなさい」。
23:7 And the Levites shall compass the king round about, every man with his weapons in his hand; and whosoever else comes into the house, he shall be put to death: but be all of you with the king when he comes in, and when he goes out.
23:8 そこでレビびとおよびユダの人々は、祭司エホヤダがすべて命じたように行い、めいめいその組の者で、安息日にはいって来るべき者と、安息日に出て行くべき者を率いていた。祭司エホヤダが組の者を去らせなかったからである。
23:8 So the Levites and all Judah did according to all things that Jehoiada the priest had commanded, and took every man his men that were to come in on the sabbath, with them that were to go out on the sabbath: for Jehoiada the priest dismissed not the courses.
23:9 また祭司エホヤダは、神の宮にあるダビデ王のやりおよび大盾、小盾を百人の長たちに渡し、
23:9 Moreover Jehoiada the priest delivered to the captains of hundreds spears, and bucklers, and shields, that had been king David's, which were in the house of God.
23:10 また王を守るために、すべての民にめいめい手に武器をとらせ、宮の南側から北側にわたって、祭壇と宮に沿って立たせた。
23:10 And he set all the people, every man having his weapon in his hand, from the right side of the temple to the left side of the temple, along by the altar and the temple, by the king round about.
23:11 こうして王の子を連れ出して、これに冠をいただかせ、あかしの書を渡して王となし、エホヤダおよびその子たちが彼に油を注いだ。そして「王万歳」と言った。
23:11 Then they brought out the king's son, and put upon him the crown, and gave him the testimony, and made him king. And Jehoiada and his sons anointed him, and said, God save the king.
23:12 アタリヤは民の走りながら王をほめる声を聞いたので、主の宮に入り、民の所へ行って、
23:12 Now when Athaliah heard the noise of the people running and praising the king, she came to the people into the house of the LORD:
23:13 見ると、王は入口で柱のかたわらに立ち、王のかたわらには将軍たちとラッパ手が立っており、また国の民は皆喜んでラッパを吹き、歌をうたう者は楽器をもってさんびしていたので、アタリヤは衣を裂いて「反逆だ、反逆だ」と叫んだ。
23:13 And she looked, and, behold, the king stood at his pillar at the entering in, and the princes and the trumpets by the king: and all the people of the land rejoiced, and sounded with trumpets, also the singers with instruments of music, and such as taught to sing praise. Then Athaliah rent her clothes, and said, Treason, Treason.
23:14 その時エホヤダは軍勢を統率する百人の長たちを呼び出し、「列の間から彼女を連れ出せ、彼女に従う者をつるぎで殺せ」と言った。祭司が彼女を主の宮で殺してはならないと言ったからである。
23:14 Then Jehoiada the priest brought out the captains of hundreds that were set over the host, and said unto them, Have her out of the ranges: and whoso follows her, let him be slain with the sword. For the priest said, Slay her not in the house of the LORD.
23:15 そこで人々は彼女に手をかけ、王の家の馬の門の入口まで連れて行き、その所で彼女を殺した。
23:15 So they laid hands on her; and when she was come to the entering of the horse gate by the king's house, they slew her there.
23:16 エホヤダは自分とすべての民と王との間に、彼らは皆、主の民となるとの契約を結んだ。
23:16 And Jehoiada made a covenant between him, and between all the people, and between the king, that they should be the LORD's people.
23:17 そこですべての民はバアルの家に行って、それをこわし、その祭壇とその像とを打ち砕き、バアルの祭司マッタンを祭壇の前で殺した。
23:17 Then all the people went to the house of Baal, and brake it down, and brake his altars and his images in pieces, and slew Mattan the priest of Baal before the altars.
23:18 エホヤダはまた主の宮の守衛を、祭司とレビびとの指揮のもとに置いた。このレビびとは昔ダビデがモーセの律法にしるされているように、喜びと歌とをもって主に燔祭をささげるために、主の宮に配置したものであって、今そのダビデの例にならったものである。
23:18 Also Jehoiada appointed the offices of the house of the LORD by the hand of the priests the Levites, whom David had distributed in the house of the LORD, to offer the burnt offerings of the LORD, as it is written in the law of Moses, with rejoicing and with singing, as it was ordained by David.
23:19 彼はまた主の宮のもろもろの門に門衛を置き、汚れた者は何によって汚れた者でも、はいらせないようにした。
23:19 And he set the porters at the gates of the house of the LORD, that none which was unclean in any thing should enter in.
23:20 こうしてエホヤダは百人の長たち、貴族たち、民のつかさたちおよび国のすべての民を率いて、主の宮から王を連れ下り、上の門から王の家に進み、王を国の位につかせた。
23:20 And he took the captains of hundreds, and the nobles, and the governors of the people, and all the people of the land, and brought down the king from the house of the LORD: and they came through the high gate into the king's house, and set the king upon the throne of the kingdom.
23:21 国の民は皆喜んだ。町はアタリヤがつるぎで殺された後、穏やかであった。
23:21 And all the people of the land rejoiced: and the city was quiet, after that they had slain Athaliah with the sword.
24:1 ヨアシは位についた時七歳で、エルサレムで四十年の間、世を治めた。彼の母はベエルシバから出た者で名をヂビアといった。
24:1 Joash was seven years old when he began to reign, and he reigned forty years in Jerusalem. His mother's name also was Zibiah of Beersheba.
24:2 ヨアシは祭司エホヤダの世にある日の間は常に主の良しと見られることを行った。
24:2 And Joash did that which was right in the sight of the LORD all the days of Jehoiada the priest.
24:3 エホヤダは彼のためにふたりの妻をめとり、彼に男子と女子が生れた。
24:3 And Jehoiada took for him two wives; and he brings forth sons and daughters.
24:4 この後ヨアシは主の宮を修繕しようと志して、
24:4 And it came to pass after this, that Joash was minded to repair the house of the LORD.
24:5 祭司とレビびとを集めて言った、「ユダの町々へ行って、あなたがたの神の宮を年々修繕する資金をすべてのイスラエルびとから集めなさい。その事を急いでしなさい」。ところがレビびとはこれを急いでしなかった。
24:5 And he gathered together the priests and the Levites, and said to them, Go out unto the cities of Judah, and gather of all Israel money to repair the house of your God from year to year, and see that all of you hasten the matter. Nevertheless the Levites hastened it not.
24:6 それで王はかしらであるエホヤダを召して言った、「あなたはなぜレビびとに求めて、主のしもべモーセがあかしの幕屋のためにイスラエルの会衆に課した税金をユダとエルサレムから取り立てさせないのか」。
24:6 And the king called for Jehoiada the chief, and said unto him, Why have you not required of the Levites to bring in out of Judah and out of Jerusalem the collection, according to the commandment of Moses the servant of the LORD, and of the congregation of Israel, for the tabernacle of witness?
24:7 かの悪い女アタリヤの子らが神の宮に侵入して主の宮のもろもろの奉納物をとり、バアルのために用いたからである。
24:7 For the sons of Athaliah, that wicked woman, had broken up the house of God; and also all the dedicated things of the house of the LORD did they bestow upon Baalim.
24:8 そこで王は命じて一個の箱を造らせ、これを主の宮の門の外に置き、
24:8 And at the king's commandment they made a chest, and set it without at the gate of the house of the LORD.
24:9 ユダとエルサレムにふれて、神のしもべモーセが荒野でイスラエルに課した税金を主のために持ってこさせた。
24:9 And they made a proclamation through Judah and Jerusalem, to bring in to the LORD the collection that Moses the servant of God laid upon Israel in the wilderness.
24:10 すべてのつかさたちおよびすべての民は皆喜んでその税金を持って来て、その箱に投げ入れたので、ついに箱はいっぱいになった。
24:10 And all the princes and all the people rejoiced, and brought in, and cast into the chest, until they had made an end.
24:11 レビびとはその箱に金が多くあるのを見て、王の役人の所へ持って行くと、王の書記と祭司長の下役とが来て、その箱を傾け、これを取ってもとの所に返した。彼らは日々このようにして金をおびただしく集めた。
24:11 Now it came to pass, that at what time the chest was brought unto the king's office by the hand of the Levites, and when they saw that there was much money, the king's scribe and the high priest's officer came and emptied the chest, and took it, and carried it to his place again. Thus they did day by day, and gathered money in abundance.
24:12 王とエホヤダはこれを主の宮の工事をなす者に渡し、石工および木工を雇って、主の宮を修繕させ、また鉄工および青銅工を雇って、主の宮を修復させた。
24:12 And the king and Jehoiada gave it to such as did the work of the service of the house of the LORD, and hired stone workers and carpenters to repair the house of the LORD, and also such as wrought iron and brass to mend the house of the LORD.
24:13 工人たちは働いたので、修復の工事は彼らの手によってはかどり、神の宮を、もとの状態に復し、これを堅固にした。
24:13 So the workmen wrought, and the work was perfected by them, and they set the house of God in his state, and strengthened it.
24:14 それをなし終ったとき、余った金を王とエホヤダの前に持って来たので、それをもって主の宮のために器物を造った。すなわち勤めの器、燔祭の器、香の皿、および金銀の器を造った。エホヤダの世にある日の間は、絶えず主の宮で燔祭をささげた。
24:14 And when they had finished it, they brought the rest of the money before the king and Jehoiada, whereof were made vessels for the house of the LORD, even vessels to minister, and to offer likewise, and spoons, and vessels of gold and silver. And they offered burnt offerings in the house of the LORD continually all the days of Jehoiada.
24:15 しかしエホヤダは年老い、日が満ちて死んだ。その死んだ時は百三十歳であった。
24:15 But Jehoiada waxed old, and was full of days when he died; an hundred and thirty years old was he when he died.
24:16 人々は彼をダビデの町で王たちの中に葬った。彼はイスラエルにおいて神とその宮とに良い事を行ったからである。
24:16 And they buried him in the city of David among the kings, because he had done good in Israel, both toward God, and toward his house.
24:17 エホヤダの死んだ後、ユダのつかさたちが来て、うやうやしく王に敬意を表した。王は彼らに聞き従った。
24:17 Now after the death of Jehoiada came the princes of Judah, and made reverence to the king. Then the king hearkened unto them.
24:18 彼らはその先祖の神、主の宮を捨てて、アシラ像および偶像に仕えたので、そのとがのために、怒りがユダとエルサレムに臨んだ。
24:18 And they left the house of the LORD God of their fathers, and served groves and idols: and wrath came upon Judah and Jerusalem for this their trespass.
24:19 主は彼らをご自分に引き返そうとして、預言者たちをつかわし、彼らにむかってあかしをさせられたが、耳を傾けなかった。
24:19 Yet he sent prophets to them, to bring them again unto the LORD; and they testified against them: but they would not give ear.
24:20 そこで神の霊が祭司エホヤダの子ゼカリヤに臨んだので、彼は民の前に立ち上がって言った、「神はこう仰せられる、『あなたがたが主の戒めを犯して、災を招くのはどういうわけであるか。あなたがたが主を捨てたために、主もあなたがたを捨てられたのである』」。
24:20 And the Spirit of God came upon Zechariah the son of Jehoiada the priest, which stood above the people, and said unto them, Thus says God, Why transgress all of you the commandments of the LORD, that all of you cannot prosper? because all of you have forsaken the LORD, he has also forsaken you.
24:21 しかし人々は彼を害しようと計り、王の命によって、石をもって彼を主の宮の庭で撃ち殺した。
24:21 And they conspired against him, and stoned him with stones at the commandment of the king in the court of the house of the LORD.
24:22 このようにヨアシ王はゼカリヤの父エホヤダが自分に施した恵みを思わず、その子を殺した。ゼカリヤは死ぬ時、「どうぞ主がこれをみそなわして罰せられるように」と言った。
24:22 Thus Joash the king remembered not the kindness which Jehoiada his father had done to him, but slew his son. And when he died, he said, The LORD look upon it, and require it.
24:23 年の終りになって、スリヤの軍勢はヨアシにむかって攻め上り、ユダとエルサレムに来て、民のつかさたちをことごとく民のうちから滅ぼし、そのぶんどり物を皆ダマスコの王に送った。
24:23 And it came to pass at the end of the year, that the host of Syria came up against him: and they came to Judah and Jerusalem, and destroyed all the princes of the people from among the people, and sent all the spoil of them unto the king of Damascus.
24:24 この時スリヤの軍勢は少数で来たのであるが、主は大軍を彼らの手に渡された。これは彼らがその先祖の神、主を捨てたためである。このように彼らはヨアシを罰した。
24:24 For the army of the Syrians came with a small company of men, and the LORD delivered a very great host into their hand, because they had forsaken the LORD God of their fathers. So they executed judgment against Joash.
24:25 スリヤ軍はヨアシに大傷を負わせて捨て去ったが、ヨアシの家来たちは祭司エホヤダの子の血のために、党を結んで彼にそむき、彼を床の上に殺して、死なせた。人々は彼をダビデの町に葬ったが、王の墓には葬らなかった。
24:25 And when they were departed from him, (for they left him in great diseases,) his own servants conspired against him for the blood of the sons of Jehoiada the priest, and slew him on his bed, and he died: and they buried him in the city of David, but they buried him not in the sepulchers of the kings.
24:26 党を結んで彼にそむいた者は、アンモンの女シメアテの子ザバデおよびモアブの女シムリテの子ヨザバデであった。
24:26 And these are they that conspired against him; Zabad the son of Shimeath an Ammonitess, and Jehozabad the son of Shimrith a Moabitess.
24:27 ヨアシの子らのこと、ヨアシに対する多くの預言および神の宮の修理の事などは、列王の書の注釈にしるされている。ヨアシの子アマジヤが彼に代って王となった。
24:27 Now concerning his sons, and the greatness of the burdens laid upon him, and the repairing of the house of God, behold, they are written in the story of the book of the kings. And Amaziah his son reigned in his position.
