1:1 Now the word of the LORD came unto Jonah the son of Amittai, saying,
1:1 Coù lôøi Ñöùc Gieâ-hoâ-va phaùn cho Gioâ-na con trai A-mi-tai nhö vaày:
1:2 Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city, and cry against it; for their wickedness has come up before me.
1:2 Ngöôi khaù choåi daäy! Haõy ñi ñeán thaønh lôùn Ni-ni-ve, vaø keâu la nghòch cuøng noù; vì toäi aùc chuùng noù ñaõ leân thaáu tröôùc maët ta.
1:3 But Jonah rose up to flee unto Tarshish from the presence of the LORD, and went down to Joppa; and he found a ship going to Tarshish: so he paid the fare thereof, and went down into it, to go with them unto Tarshish from the presence of the LORD.
1:3 Nhöng Gioâ-na choåi daäy ñaëng troán qua Ta-reâ-si, ñeå laùnh khoûi maët Ñöùc Gieâ-hoâ-va. Ngöôøi xuoáng ñeán Gia-phoâ, gaëp moät chieác taøu ñi qua Ta-reâ-si. Ngöôøi traû tieàn quaù giang, vaø xuoáng taøu ñaëng ñi Ta-reâ-si vôùi hoï, ñeå khoûi maët Ñöùc Gieâ-hoâ-va.
1:4 But the LORD sent out a great wind into the sea, and there was a mighty tempest in the sea, so that the ship was like to be broken.
1:4 Nhöng Ñöùc Gieâ-hoâ-va khieán gioù lôùn thoåi treân bieån; treân bieån coù traän baõo lôùn, chieác taøu haàu vôõ.
1:5 Then the seamen were afraid, and cried every man unto his god, and cast forth the wares that were in the ship into the sea, to lighten it of them. But Jonah was gone down into the sides of the ship; and he lay, and was fast asleep.
1:5 Nhöõng thuûy thuû ñeàu sôï haõi, ai naày keâu caàu thaàn cuûa mình. Ñoaïn, hoï quaêng nhöõng ñoà ñaïc trong taøu xuoáng bieån, ñeå cho nheï taøu. Gioâ-na ñaõ xuoáng döôùi loøng taøu, naèm vaø nguû meâ.
1:6 So the ship captain came to him, and said unto him, What mean you, O sleeper? arise, call upon your God, if so be that God will think upon us, that we perish not.
1:6 Chuû taøu beøn ñeán gaàn ngöôøi vaø baûo raèng: Hôõi ngöôøi nguû kia, laøm sao vaäy? Khaù chôø daäy! Haõy keâu caàu Ñöùc Chuùa Trôøi ngöôi. Coù leõ Ñöùc Chuùa Trôøi seõ töôûng ñeán chuùng ta, thì chuùng ta khoûi cheát.
1:7 And they said every one to his fellow, Come, and let us cast lots, that we may know for whose cause this evil is upon us. So they cast lots, and the lot fell upon Jonah.
1:7 Keá ñoù, chuùng noùi cuøng nhau raèng: Haõy ñeán, chuùng ta haõy baét thaêm, ñeå cho bieát tai vaï naày ñeán cho chuùng ta laø vì côù ai. Vaäy hoï baét thaêm, vaø thaêm truùng nhaèm Gioâ-na.
1:8 Then said they unto him, Tell us, we pray you, for whose cause this evil is upon us; What is yours occupation? and whence come you? what is your country? and of what people are you?
1:8 Baáy giôø hoï noùi cuøng ngöôøi raèng: Khaù cho chuùng ta bieát vì ñieàu chi maø tai vaï naày ñeán treân chuùng ta. Ngöôi laøm ngheà gì, vaø töø ñaâu ñeán? Xöù ngöôi ôû ñaâu, ngöôi thuoäc veà daân naøo?
1:9 And he said unto them, I am an Hebrew; and I fear the LORD, the God of heaven, which has made the sea and the dry land.
1:9 Ngöôøi traû lôøi raèng: Ta laø ngöôøi Heâ-bô-rô, vaø ta kính sôï, Ñöùc Gieâ-hoâ-va, laø Ñöùc Chuùa Trôøi treân trôøi, Ngaøi ñaõ laøm neân bieån vaø ñaát khoâ.
1:10 Then were the men exceedingly afraid, and said unto him. Why have you done this? For the men knew that he fled from the presence of the LORD, because he had told them.
1:10 Nhöõng ngöôøi aáy caû sôï, vaø baûo ngöôøi raèng: Ngöôi ñaõ laøm vieäc gì ñoù? Baáy giôø hoï ñaõ bieát raèng ngöôøi troán khoûi maët Ñöùc Gieâ-hoâ-va; vì ngöôøi ñaõ khai ra cho hoï.
1:11 Then said they unto him, What shall we do unto you, that the sea may be calm unto us? for the sea wrought, and was tempestuous.
1:11 Vaäy hoï noùi raèng: Chuùng ta seõ laøm gì veà ngöôi, haàu cho bieån yeân laëng cho chuùng ta? Vì bieån caøng ñoäng theâm maõi.
1:12 And he said unto them, Take me up, and cast me forth into the sea; so shall the sea be calm unto you: for I know that for my sake this great tempest is upon you.
1:12 Ngöôøi traû lôøi raèng: Haõy baét laáy ta; haõy neùm ta xuoáng bieån, thì bieån yeân laëng cho caùc anh; vì ta bieát raèng aáy laø vì côù ta maø caùc anh ñaõ gaëp phaûi traän baõo lôùn naày.
1:13 Nevertheless the men rowed hard to bring it to the land; but they could not: for the sea wrought, and was tempestuous against them.
1:13 Nhöõng ngöôøi aáy baét tay cheøo vaøo bôø; song khoâng ñöôïc, vì bieån caøng noåi leân nghòch cuøng hoï maõi.
1:14 Wherefore they cried unto the LORD, and said, We plead to you, O LORD, we plead to you, let us not perish for this man's life, and lay not upon us innocent blood: for you, O LORD, have done as it pleased you.
1:14 Hoï beøn keâu caàu Ñöùc Gieâ-hoâ-va maø raèng: Hôõi Ñöùc Gieâ-hoâ-va, chuùng toâi naøi xin Ngaøi, chuùng toâi naøi xin Ngaøi chôù laøm cho chuùng toâi cheát vì côù maïng soáng cuûa ngöôøi naày, vaø chôù khieán maùu voâ toäi ñoå laïi treân chuùng toâi! Hôõi Ñöùc Gieâ-hoâ-va, vì chính Ngaøi laø Ñaáng ñaõ laøm ñieàu mình muoán.
1:15 So they look up Jonah, and cast him forth into the sea: and the sea ceased from her raging.
1:15 Ñoaïn hoï baét Gioâ-na, quaêng xuoáng bieån, thì söï giaän döõ cuûa bieån yeân laëng.
1:16 Then the men feared the LORD exceedingly, and offered a sacrifice unto the LORD, and made vows.
1:16 Vì vaäy maø nhöõng ngöôøi aáy raát kính sôï Ñöùc Gieâ-hoâ-va. Hoï daâng cuûa leã cho Ñöùc Gieâ-hoâ-va, vaø höùa nguyeän cuøng Ngaøi.
1:17 Now the LORD had prepared a great fish to swallow up Jonah. And Jonah was in the belly of the fish three days and three nights.
1:17 (2 -1) Ñöùc Gieâ-hoâ-va saém söûa moät con caù lôùn ñaëng nuoát Gioâ-na; Gioâ-na ôû trong buïng caù ba ngaøy ba ñeâm.
2:1 Then Jonah prayed unto the LORD his God out of the fish's belly,
2:1 (2 -2) Gioâ-na töø trong buïng caù caàu nguyeän Gieâ-hoâ-va Ñöùc Chuùa Trôøi mình,
2:2 And said, I cried by reason of mine affliction unto the LORD, and he heard me; out of the belly of hell cried I, and you heard my voice.
2:2 (2 -3) maø raèng: Toâi gaëp hoaïn naïn, keâu caàu Ñöùc Gieâ-hoâ-va, Thì Ngaøi ñaõ traû lôøi cho toâi. Töø trong buïng aâm phuû, toâi keâu la, Thì Ngaøi ñaõ nghe tieáng toâi.
2:3 For you had cast me into the deep, in the midst of the seas; and the floods compassed me about: all your billows and your waves passed over me.
2:3 (2 -4) Ngaøi ñaõ quaêng toâi trong vöïc saâu, nôi ñaùy bieån, Vaø doøng nöôùc lôùn bao boïc laáy toâi. Heát thaûy nhöõng soùng löôïn vaø nhöõng ba ñaøo cuûa Ngaøi ñeàu traûi qua treân toâi.
2:4 Then I said, I am cast out of your sight; yet I will look again toward your holy temple.
2:4 (2 -5) Toâi ñaõ noùi raèng: Toâi ñaõ bò neùm khoûi tröôùc maét Ngaøi; Daàu vaäy, toâi coøn nhìn leân ñeàn thaùnh cuûa Ngaøi.
2:5 The waters compassed me about, even to the soul: the depth closed me round about, the weeds were wrapped about my head.
2:5 (2 -6) Nöôùc bao phuû laáy toâi, cho ñeán linh hoàn toâi; Vöïc saâu vaây laáy toâi tö beà; Rong reâu vaán vít ñaàu toâi.
2:6 I went down to the bottoms of the mountains; the earth with her bars was about me for ever: yet have you brought up my life from corruption, O LORD my God.
2:6 (2 -7) Toâi ñaõ xuoáng ñeán chôn neàn caùc nuùi; Ñaát ñaõ ñoùng then noù treân toâi ñôøi ñôøi. Hôõi Gieâ-hoâ-va Ñöùc Chuùa Trôøi toâi, nhöng Ngaøi ñaõ ñem maïng soáng toâi leân khoûi haàm hoá!
2:7 When my soul fainted within me I remembered the LORD: and my prayer came in unto you, into yours holy temple.
2:7 (2 -8) Khi linh hoàn toâi moøn moûi trong toâi, thì toâi nhôù ñeán Ñöùc Gieâ-hoâ-va, Vaø lôøi caàu nguyeän cuûa toâi ñaït ñeán Ngaøi, vaøo ñeàn thaùnh Ngaøi.
2:8 They that observe lying vanities forsake their own mercy.
2:8 (2 -9) Nhöõng keû chaêm söï hö khoâng giaû doái, Thì lìa boû söï thöông xoùt cuûa mình.
2:9 But I will sacrifice unto you with the voice of thanksgiving; I will pay that that I have vowed. Salvation is of the LORD.
2:9 (2-10) Nhöng toâi, toâi seõ duøng tieáng caûm taï maø daâng cuûa leã cho Ngaøi; Toâi seõ traû söï toâi ñaõ höùa nguyeän. Söï cöùu ñeán töø Ñöùc Gieâ-hoâ-va!
2:10 And the LORD spoke unto the fish, and it vomited out Jonah upon the dry land.
2:10 (2-11) Ñöùc Gieâ-hoâ-va beøn phaùn cuøng con caù, vaø noù möûa Gioâ-na ra treân ñaát khoâ.
3:1 And the word of the LORD came unto Jonah the second time, saying,
3:1 Laïi coù lôøi Ñöùc Gieâ-hoâ-va phaùn cuøng Gioâ-na laàn thöù hai maø raèng:
3:2 Arise, go unto Nineveh, that great city, and preach unto it the preaching that I bid you.
3:2 Ngöôi khaù chôø daäy! Haõy ñi ñeán thaønh lôùn Ni-ni-ve, vaø rao cho noù lôøi ta ñaõ daïy cho ngöôi.
3:3 So Jonah arose, and went unto Nineveh, according to the word of the LORD. Now Nineveh was an exceeding great city of three days' journey.
3:3 Vaäy Gioâ-na chôø daäy vaø ñi ñeán Ni-ni-ve, theo lònh cuûa Ñöùc Gieâ-hoâ-va. Vaû, Ni-ni-ve laø moät thaønh raát lôùn, ñi maát ba ngaøy ñöôøng.
3:4 And Jonah began to enter into the city a day's journey, and he cried, and said, Yet forty days, and Nineveh shall be overthrown.
3:4 Gioâ-na khôûi ñaàu vaøo trong thaønh ñi moät ngaøy, thì rao giaûng vaø noùi raèng: Coøn boán möôi ngaøy nöõa, Ni-ni-ve seõ bò ñoå xuoáng!
3:5 So the people of Nineveh believed God, and proclaimed a fast, and put on sackcloth, from the greatest of them even to the least of them.
3:5 Daân thaønh Ni-ni-ve tin Ñöùc Chuùa Trôøi. Hoï rao ra söï kieâng aên vaø maëc bao gai, töø nhöõng ngöôøi raát lôùn trong ñaùm hoï cho ñeán nhöõng keû raát nhoû.
3:6 For word came unto the king of Nineveh, and he arose from his throne, and he laid his robe from him, and covered him with sackcloth, and sat in ashes.
3:6 Tin aáy ñoàn ñeán vua Ni-ni-ve, vua ñöùng daäy khoûi ngai, loät aùo baøo mình ra, quaán bao gai vaø ngoài trong tro.
3:7 And he caused it to be proclaimed and published through Nineveh by the decree of the king and his nobles, saying, Let neither man nor beast, herd nor flock, taste any thing: let them not feed, nor drink water:
3:7 Ñoaïn vua truyeàn lònh naày ra trong thaønh Ni-ni-ve, nhö laø lôøi duï cuûa vua cuøng cuûa caùc keû toân tröôûng: Khoâng luaän ngöôøi ta hay laø thuù vaät, khoâng luaän baày boø hay baày chieân, ñeàu chôù neám chi heát. Khoâng ñöôïc ñeå cho noù aên, cuõng khoâng uoáng nöôùc;
3:8 But let man and beast be covered with sackcloth, and cry mightily unto God: yea, let them turn every one from his evil way, and from the violence that is in their hands.
3:8 nhöng ngöôøi ta vaø thuù vaät ñeàu phaûi quaán bao gai. Moïi ngöôøi khaù ra söùc keâu cuøng Ñöùc Chuùa Trôøi; phaûi, ai naáy khaù boû ñöôøng loái xaáu mình vaø vieäc hung döõ cuûa tay mình.
3:9 Who can tell if God will turn and repent, and turn away from his fierce anger, that we perish not?
3:9 Ai bieát raèng hoaëc Ñöùc Chuùa Trôøi seõ khoâng xaây laïi vaø aên naên, xaây khoûi côn noùng giaän mình, haàu cho chuùng ta khoûi cheát, hay sao?
3:10 And God saw their works, that they turned from their evil way; and God repented of the evil, that he had said that he would do unto them; and he did it not.
3:10 Baáy giôø Ñöùc Chuùa Trôøi thaáy vieäc hoï laøm ñeàu ñaõ xaây boû ñöôøng loái xaáu cuûa mình; Ñöùc Chuùa Trôøi beøn aên naên söï hoïa maø Ngaøi ñaõ phaùn seõ laøm cho hoï, vaø Ngaøi khoâng laøm söï ñoù.
4:1 But it displeased Jonah exceedingly, and he was very angry.
4:1 Baáy giôø Gioâ-na raát khoâng ñeïp loøng, vaø giaän döõ.
4:2 And he prayed unto the LORD, and said, I pray you, O LORD, was not this my saying, when I was yet in my country? Therefore I fled before unto Tarshish: for I knew that you are a gracious God, and merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness, and repent you of the evil.
4:2 Ngöôøi caàu nguyeän Ñöùc Gieâ-hoâ-va raèng: Haõy Ñöùc Gieâ-hoâ-va, toâi caàu xin Ngaøi, aáy haù chaúng phaûi laø ñieàu toâi ñaõ noùi khi toâi coøn ôû trong xöù toâi sao? Vì ñoù neân toâi laät ñaät troán qua Ta-reâ-si vaäy. Bôûi toâi bieát raèng Ngaøi laø Ñöùc Chuùa Trôøi nhôn töø, thöông xoùt, chaäm giaän, giaøu ôn, vaø ñoåi yù khoâng xuoáng tai vaï.
4:3 Therefore now, O LORD, take, I plead to you, my life from me; for it is better for me to die than to live.
4:3 Hôõi Ñöùc Gieâ-hoâ-va, vaäy baây giôø, toâi naøi xin Ngaøi haõy caát laáy söï soáng toâi; vì veà phaàn toâi, cheát coøn hôn soáng!
4:4 Then said the LORD, Do you well to be angry?
4:4 Ñöùc Gieâ-hoâ-va traû lôøi cuøng ngöôøi raèng: Ngöôi giaän coù neân khoâng?
4:5 So Jonah went out of the city, and sat on the east side of the city, and there made him a booth, and sat under it in the shadow, till he might see what would become of the city.
4:5 Baáy giôø Gioâ-na ra khoûi thaønh Ni-ni-ve, ngoài phía ñoâng thaønh aáy. Taïi ñoù, ngöôøi laøm moät caùi choøi, ngoài döôùi boùng choøi aáy maø ñôïi xem ñieàu seõ xaûy ñeán cho thaønh aáy.
4:6 And the LORD God prepared a gourd, and made it to come up over Jonah, that it might be a shadow over his head, to deliver him from his grief. So Jonah was exceeding glad of the gourd.
4:6 Vaû, Ñöùc Gieâ-hoâ-va saém saün moät daây giöa cao leân beân treân Gioâ-na, ñaëng phuû boùng treân ñaàu ngöôøi, vaø cöùu ngöôøi khoûi söï khoå cöïc. Gioâ-na raát vui vì côù daây aáy.
4:7 But God prepared a worm when the morning rose the next day, and it stroke the gourd that it withered.
4:7 Nhöng böõa sau, vöøa luùc höøng ñoâng, Ñöùc Chuùa Trôøi saém moät con saâu, saâu chích daây aáy ñeán noãi heùo.
4:8 And it came to pass, when the sun did arise, that God prepared a vehement east wind; and the sun beat upon the head of Jonah, that he fainted, and wished in himself to die, and said, It is better for me to die than to live.
4:8 Ñoaïn, ñeán khi maët trôøi moïc, Ñöùc Chuùa Trôøi saém gioù chaùy thoåi töø phöông ñoâng, vaø maët trôøi gioïi xuoáng treân ñaàu Gioâ-na, ñeán noãi ngaát ñi, vaø caàu cheát maø raèng: Veà phaàn toâi, cheát coøn hôn soáng!
4:9 And God said to Jonah, Do you well to be angry for the gourd? And he said, I do well to be angry, even unto death.
4:9 Ñöùc Chuùa Trôøi beøn phaùn cuøng Gioâ-na raèng: Ngöôi noåi giaän vì côù daây naày coù neân khoâng? Ngöôøi thöa raèng: Toâi giaän cho ñeán cheát cuõng phaûi laém.
4:10 Then said the LORD, You have had pity on the gourd, for the which you have not laboured, neither made it grow; which came up in a night, and perished in a night:
4:10 Ñöùc Gieâ-hoâ-va laïi phaùn: Ngöôi ñoaùi tieác moät daây maø ngöôi chöa heà khoù nhoïc vì noù, ngöôi khoâng laøm cho noù moïc, moät ñeâm thaáy noù sanh ra vaø moät ñeâm thaáy noù cheát.
4:11 And should not I spare Nineveh, that great city, wherein are more then sixscore thousand persons that cannot discern between their right hand and their left hand; and also much cattle?
4:11 Coøn ta, haù khoâng ñoaùi tieác thaønh lôùn Ni-ni-ve, trong ñoù coù hôn möôøi hai vaïn ngöôøi khoâng bieát phaân bieät tay höõu vaø tay taû, laïi vôùi moät soá thuù vaät raát nhieàu hay sao?
